C
Oh, how cute. I know.
D
This is my cat. She loves to record.
C
What's her name? That's her co host.
D
It is. Her name is Tux. And hello to everyone listening. I'm Sophia. Welcome to the Nightly from Hatch. This is a slumber party for pop culture lovers and it's just me tonight, but I am joined by two amazing guests here in the pillow fort. We have the amazing Derrick Berry and Mackenzie Claude, AKA Nebraska. They are Hatch's ASMR queens. Welcome Mackenzie and Derek.
C
Hey, what's going on, Sophia? What's up top?
D
It's just me and my cat against the world. I'm like so taken by the fact that you guys. There's another one that'll appear at some point but they really like when I record. It's like the most. It's extremely engaging to them. I love your guys bathrobes by the way. It's very apt. Thank you. It's very cozy. Whenever we have guests on, we love to ask them like your bedtime routines if you any like tips or tricks or just walk us through how you like to go to bed at night.
C
Hmm. Yes, Derek.
A
Well, I think because I perform almost every night, five nights a week, I love taking my shower after work and that just like really calms me, gets me to go down a little bit because the adrenaline is so high. I know being on stage. So a hot shower is always something that will instantly get me tired. And then having carbs, if I eat any carbs before bed. Instant sleep.
D
That's wise. It is so hard to like, I do stand up and, and it's I'm sure not nearly as like as much adrenaline, but sometimes it's very hard to wind down after a show and I think a shower is a smart way to do that.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
C
And then Derek, you like to cozy up and like put something on television and cozy up in the bed and some blankets on the living room bed.
A
Oh, I have a living. I have a living room bed right now for the holiday.
D
Do you have the couch that like turned into a bed or itself?
C
No, he brought out a mattress and made a bed. We have bed at home there in our living room.
D
That's amazing. That's one of those things that's like once you put the mattress in the living room, it feels impossible to take it out because you're like, I wish I was always living this way.
A
That it is my living room bed. That's how I live now.
D
Yeah. What about you, Mackenzie?
C
Well, I feel like I wake up and I'm just immediately tired, so it's really easy to wind down at the end of the night. I just. I was in the military, and I was trained to be able to sleep in any kind of conditions anywhere. So I just hit. I hit my rack, and I'm out.
D
Oh, my God. I'm jealous of that. I'm. I am. I'm. I'm much harder to put to sleep. I'm like a fussy baby.
C
But I do like to put my hatch device on, and I like to listen. I have to have some kind of sound on. So that's why the hatchery store is perfect, because there's different options to choose from. And I like to do the. They have, like, a lavender color one that I've been listening to that's kind of like a mixture of, like, beats and REM noise. It's very soothing, and it just helps turn off my mind. Otherwise, yes, I'll be laying there and my mind will be going 100 miles per hour.
D
Yes.
A
Yeah. Mac has to have something on where I love the silence. Like, I want pitch black silence, and he wants, like, TV or hatch or.
C
Silence of the Light.
A
Well, not. That's kind of scary to go to.
D
Bed to put on a nice horror flick to lull you to sleep. Yeah, I. I feel I'm kind of in between. Like, I. I can't fall asleep to, like, TV or, like, podcast. I can fall asleep to, like, white noise or. I also love it to be, like, absolutely silent. I have, like, industrial grade, like, wax earplugs that I'm just, like, shoving in my ears before I go to sleep to help me.
A
Oh, I love earplugs. Love them.
D
They're amazing.
C
Except. So the cat seriously loves your earplugs too?
D
Oh, yeah.
C
Oh, yeah.
A
She plays with my earplugs.
D
Oh, mine do. Yeah.
A
They're always on the ground.
D
Yeah, mine definitely do that too. What is your guys cat's name?
A
We have Khaleesi and Circe.
D
Aw.
C
Yep. Named after the queens of the Game of Thrones franchise. Although they were enemies on the that show. They have since formed an alliance under our roof.
D
It's a friends. It's an enemies to friends arc.
C
Yes.
D
Amazing.
A
Oh, they still battle.
D
They still fight.
A
Oh, yeah, they.
C
They have slap fights. Of course.
A
They fight all day long.
D
I mean, mine are bonded and they definitely fight all the time. They're like brawling and it's like sometimes it's kind of scary, but it is. I have to let them get their energy out somehow. Yeah, yeah.
A
That's their playtime. I mean, living with cats is basically living with lions and tigers.
C
So.
D
So I. It really is. They're just little versions.
A
I know.
D
Like when I watch them sometimes, like crawl around on stuff, I'm like, you literally are like. It's like you're in the jungle. Like, this is like your kingdom.
A
Yeah.
C
Oh, cute. Yeah. Especially in our house with all the drag everywhere. It probably does feel like a jungle.
D
Oh, I'm sure. Oh, my God. I'm sure. There's so many fun things for them to like, sleep on and like, nestle in. I'm just imagining them in like my, like in like fur. Do you guys have any furs around? Because I feel like cats love that. Of course. Vegan.
A
Oh, yeah.
D
Naturally.
C
You know, to be respectful to our cats.
D
Yeah, of course. I mean, we can't. We can't have them. We can't have the real fur on the real fur. It has to be all the real fur on the fake fur. So basically today we're gonna play a little game together. I was thinking we could play a little game of. Would you rather. Does that sound fun to everyone?
A
Love that.
D
Okay.
C
Yes, please. Sure.
D
Perfect. And we have some. Some kind of like drag related. Would you rathers that we've prepared for you? Gu. Our first one is. Would you rather lip sync for your life to a song you hate but know every word to or a song you love but only know the chorus? Ooh, that's a good question.
C
I'm gonna do a song I love and. But I only know the chorus because I can do watermelon cantaloupe for the lyrics.
D
Okay. Wait, what is that?
C
It's where you.
D
You just say it.
A
Right.
D
Okay. And you're just like mogging.
C
You hope that it lines up right.
D
And I'm sure it does often.
C
Just a lot of prayer and positive vibes.
D
Yeah, yeah. That'll carry you through.
A
I'm going to go with a song that I hate but know every word because at least then I would be able to like, hit the beat and know every, like, nuance of the vocal because they will send you home if you do not know the song.
D
Do you have a dream song that you would want to lip sync to or like one that you do that you're like. Like, this is it. Like, this is everything.
A
Oh, I Would love to do Toxic on Drag Race. That would be so fun. I mean, I get to do it at Drag Race live, but I would love to do Toxic on the show, actually.
D
Yeah.
C
Mine would be Closer by Nine Inch Nails or Personal Jesus by Marilyn Manson because I just love the edginess and electricity of those types of songs.
D
That's so fun. That's really fun. Okay, our next one is. Would you rather. These are all lip sync. Would you rather lip sync in 8 inch heels on a slippery stage or barefoot, but in a gown with a ten foot train?
A
Oh.
C
Oh, that's easy. So for me, it would be barefoot with a 10 foot train because it's all about the fashion. I'm tall enough as it is. I should. I'm six, five as a boy. Seven feet in drag, so I don't need the extra height.
D
No.
C
So, and the. The train will cover the fact that I'm heelless?
D
Yes.
A
Oof. I think an 8 inch pleaser. I'd feel like I was gonna break my ankle the whole time, so I would only be in my head about that. So I guess I'd have to go with the gown. But I mean, both suck.
D
I agree. The 8 inch heel on a slippery stage is like just truly dangerous. Actually, I would not be able to do that at all. I have the weakest ankles. Also, once upon a time, I was signed to a modeling agency, whatever. And this was when I was a girl and there were castings that I would go into and try to walk in the heels. And I literally one time just had to leave. Cause I was like, I actually can't do this. Cause it was truly 8 inch heels that I was like, I can't do this. And it's just humiliating. It takes brute strength.
C
I mean, it's super challenging. And even the first time I ever wore heels, they were just a normal height and it was impossible.
D
So I tried my friend's pleasers on a couple weeks ago, and I was kind of teetering around, but I don't. On a slippery stage. I would never. Okay. Would you guys rather have perfect hair with questionable outfits or perfect outfits with unpredictable hair?
C
Oh, well, I feel like my hair is always unpredictable already. I would have to say that it's always about the outfit for me. So as long as the outfit's right and then the hair is just gonna do whatever the hair is gonna do. Because if it's perfect, it's gonna be windy that day. That's just how life works.
A
Yeah, I have to go for hair. Like, I could Honestly, be naked performing, and I need hair that's like, I need, I need my own hair. Like not my own hair. Yeah, but I mean, I need like hair that I could move in and hair flip and feel sexy and like, if they try to put me in a pussycat wig with a hot outfit, I'll be like, no, it's over.
C
Did somebody say pussy talks?
D
She's like, I've been summoned. She's like, coming in, her waist is snatched. My cat, I put her in a waist trainer. Okay. So you wait, Derek, your hair and Nebraska, your outfit.
A
Yeah, that makes sense for us. That's very on brand for our characters too. Okay.
D
I'm trying to think what I would do. This is hard for me because I'm growing my hair out, so I feel like every day I have questionable hair. And so I'm really taken by the idea of having perfect hair at the moment. But I think in my heart I would probably have to go with a perfect outfit with question. With unpredictable hair, the fashion. Yeah, yeah, I think so. Even though I want, I want perfect hair horribly right now. Would you rather perform only late night gigs or only early brunch shows forever?
C
Ooh. Well, I mean, fate has kind of delivered that to us already.
D
Which one are you guys doing? Are you late night?
A
I have always been late night. I. I mean, I started at Mickey's nightclub, my first gig, and then I moved to Vegas for La Cage and then Diva is the now RuPaul's Drag Race live. And our shows have always been either 7, 7:30 or 10 or 9:30. So yeah, I'm always a late night and then even sometimes after hours at the nightclub. So I would prefer late night shows always.
C
Yeah. And I'm currently at Trek brunch on the Strip. So it is Saturday, Sunday, and it's two shows. And so by the time I'm getting home, then Derek's leaving for his show. And so there's two shows on the Strip. Derek's in the late night one and I'm in the early morning one.
D
And that's how you guys would have it, or it's just been bestowed upon you that way.
C
So, baby, when you come to Vegas, we got you covered.
D
Yeah, you got, we. You have a whole. You have a full day back to back. Yeah, it's gonna be amazing. I'm just trying to put myself in your guys shoes. I mean, I'm used to performing at night. It's hard for me to imagine a brunch show, but I'm also like, despite Doing standup, I'm pretty much like an early bird. So maybe I would go for the brunch show. Do you feel like it's a different energy?
C
Let me give you more context.
D
Okay.
C
I gotta wake up at 5:30 in the morning to start my makeup.
D
So let's wait.
C
So that gives me three hours to wake up before I actually have to be in front of people.
D
Okay. So I guess I'm gonna go with the late night because you said 5am and I. And that now I'm scared. Now I'm scared.
A
Imagine doing a late night show and then being up for brunch. Sometimes if I have that schedule, I'll just sleep in my makeup and then I'll touch it up at like 8, 8 in the morning, touch it up and then leave my house around 9 to be there by 9:30.
D
Oh, my God.
C
And it's still flawless. I don't know how he does that.
D
You guys are literally like nurses. I'm like, this is insane. Like, you're working like, the most grueling hours and you look good doing it as well, which is just like, incomprehensible to me.
A
Yeah. There's been long day. I've been in drag before for like 30 hours, going from oh my God, gigs to gigs. I've gone, I've done other countries and come back.
C
Haven't you even worn makeup on a plane before at Full Face?
A
Yeah, that's the one I'm talking. I went from. I went from Drag Race live to Denver the next morning for pride to Mexico City. And then I got to take it off, but I was in makeup for like, 32 hours total.
D
Did it feel like the most, like, amazing thing in the world when you finally took it off?
A
Oh, to take it all. Yes. And I only got a couple hours of sleep after because I had to fly back to the States for the show the next night or that same night. But. Oh, it was. Oh, it was amazing.
D
I can't even imagine.
A
Worth it.
D
Yeah, yeah.
A
But I just wanted to, like, scratch all right here. Of course, that's the only part. Like, the crevices gets itchy.
D
Yeah. I'm talking to literally two of God's and literally strongest soldiers. This one is for Derek. Would you rather be stuck in VMAs snake, Britney forever, or Oops, I did it again. Red cat suit. Britney forever.
A
Ooh, the red capsuit. I've actually never had the kind of latex one she did. I had one made that was kind of a little bit more like a vinyl Material. But I heard that was very sweaty. I'd be claustrophobic in that. Yeah. So I love the VMAs slavery performance look.
D
Yeah.
A
That's so hot. The only thing is, I would feel like I was constantly on eating restrictions if I was wearing that forever.
D
Of course. Of course.
A
Yeah. But I love that.
D
Worse, I just did work the world.
A
In that outfit, and I love that I got to tour Europe and Australia and the United States and Canada in that look, and I love it so much. They even have the cage built for me.
D
Oh, my God. That's amazing. That's amazing. Yeah. The latex would be really difficult. I mean.
A
Yeah, that's a look, but not a lifestyle.
D
No, no, no, not at all.
A
Yeah.
D
And then, okay, for Nebraska, if you had to pick a celebrity to become for your act, who would you choose?
A
Ooh, good one.
C
Well, the thing is, Sofia, I'm too tall.
D
Oh.
C
At six, five, I'm too tall to fool anybody or to really, you know, do it correctly, so. But if I were to ever be on Drag Race and do Snatch Game, I would probably do Erika Jayne.
D
That's good.
C
There's a lot to pull from, and there's a lot of different levels to pull from.
D
Yes, yes. And you have the range, Derek, whose.
C
Impression we were just doing recently, and I. Oh. Sydney Sweeney. Oh.
A
Oh, my God.
C
Give it to me. Give it to me, baby.
D
Let's hear it.
A
Everything she does is just a lot like this.
D
Yeah.
A
If, like, valet girl, even though she's from Seattle, is, like, also from la. So it's like a very crazy mixture.
D
It is very. Yeah, it is. Like, there's not an inch of the Pacific Northwest in her.
A
No.
D
That was amazing. An amazing game of. Would you rather. And I just want to say thank you guys so much for joining us. This was so fun. And before we wrap, we just want to see if there's anything Nebraska or Derek that our listeners should be checking out from you. Anything you want to plug, please let us know.
A
Okay. Well, you could see me at RuPaul's Drag Race live at the Flamingo. The show runs Thursday through Mondays at 9:30, and we also have an additional 7pm show on Fridays, and we have 11pm meet and greets. Otherwise, you can catch me on the road. Go to derrickberry.com for all tour dates. And my album came out April of 2025 that was written by MacKenzie. It's called hey, Derek.
D
Oh, my God.
A
We want to thank RuPaul for the title because he loved hey, Derek on Drag Race.
D
Oh, my God, that is so exciting. Okay, everyone needs to stream that. And what about you, Nebraska?
C
So I am currently at drag branch at the Hard Rock Cafe, right next to mgm. Exactly. And I just launched my Twitch channel, so I'm live streaming every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Derek joins me for a lot of those from 5 to 8pm and then actually, this collaboration with Hatch inspired us. This ASMR collaboration we did with Hatch because it reminded us of how much we enjoy doing our ASMR series. So we have decided to do a. To self produce a third season of our ASMR Queen show. And so we will start action on that in the next month or so.
D
Oh, my God. Amazing. Okay, well, that is so exciting. And basically, before we all turn in, we always ask our guests to say a special good night. So if you guys want to give us a quick good night before we log off, that would be amazing.
C
Ooh. Good night.
A
Good night. Good night. Good night. Good night.
C
Good night. Good night. Good night. Good night. Good night to our partner, Nick.
A
Good night to our kitties, Khaleesi and Circe.
C
Good night to our tortoise, Leo, who's currently hibernating in Nick's art room.
A
He's already hit REM cycle because he's in a coma.
D
Yeah.
C
Ooh. Good night to our 17 turtles, Ross.
A
Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe.
C
And we didn't name the rest because we can't tell them apart, but we.
A
Do know that they're all friends.
C
When I fall asleep, I don't count sheep. I count turtles.
A
Ooh. One turtle, two turtle, three turtles.
C
What sound does a turtle make?
D
Amazing. Wait, I. I love tortoises. So that is, like, just perfect to know that you guys have that in addition to turtles, but so cute. They're so cute. Do you feed them strawberries ever?
A
Yeah. Oh, yeah. He loved berries. He actually eats some berries that fall from the. We have a flowering plum, and he loved those. And we come out and his whole face is all blue.
C
He loves Derek's house plants.
A
Oh, he eats my house plants. Which is crazy, but yes.
D
Okay, well, good night. Good night to him and. And all the turtles and the cats and Nick. So good night, Derek. Good night, mackenzie. Thank you guys so much for coming on the show.
C
Good night, Sophia. Good night, Tux.
D
Good night, Tux.
