Audio for sleep by Hatch. Hatch made that thing. It's called Ophelia. An original audio drama inspired by Hamlet where Ophelia finally gets to be the main character. Forbidden magic, a crumbling kingdom, a slow burn love triangle with a prince and his very guarded, very intriguing best friend. The kind of love triangle where you will absolutely pick a side and you will not be quiet about it. Book one of the three part series is now available for free wherever you stream with new chapters dropping every Tuesday. For books two and three, check out Hatch co Ophelia.
B
Alright. I'm Matt.
A
And I'm kp. Welcome to the nightly from ha where your late night thoughts go to rest. Matt, it's a very special time of year because the finale of Survivor is upon us. I know you've got an extra pep in your step.
B
I have barely been able to contain myself all week. It's been a real struggle getting on with day to day chores with that going on.
A
If it helps you, I'd like to talk about where we're at and my thoughts on the final five.
B
Well, obviously I know where everything's at. I suppose for the benefit of the listener you should probably do a little catch up just to. Because they're probably ill informed.
A
Of course I know your favorite person right now that's still left is count of three.
B
One, two, three. Gary.
A
One, two, three.
B
Dean.
A
Gary. Dean.
B
Gary. Dean.
A
I'll tell you who is left. Okay, so we have the wonderful. Well, do I think any of them are wonderful, Honestly?
B
Oh really?
A
This is the issue. I mean this is the kind of fundamental flaw of the game is you have to get rid of some really lovely people because then what's left is kind of the cutthroat people, you know. Anyway, you're missing some. You're missing some key people. Okay, so what we have left is Tiffany Jo Rizgod which is is his name. Jonathan Young and Aubrey.
B
Right.
A
I'm most excited here about Tiffany. I think Tiffany has played a really lovely game where she has stayed stubborn about the things she has wanted but still has a favorable opinion and made good alliances. I think she's innov bit of trouble right now because she's been going hard for a few people that have a little bit more power right now than her. Joe is not my favorite. Joe is kind of no one's favorite and right now he's like, we don't know what happens in the finale but what we do know is that Joe on social media has been blocking everybody.
B
Oh, that's exciting.
A
Yeah. So something is gonna happen.
B
Well, how is he at this point? If you say he's no one's favorite, how has he survived?
A
So this is the fundamental joy and flaw of the game is you want to get to a final three. That is how the game ends. You're in a final three, and then in that final three, all of the people you voted out get to vote for who should win the show. So that is the. The way that it has to go is like, you can't just piss everybody off and vote them out, because in the end, they won't want to vote for you.
B
Right.
A
So what Joe has done has been really. Nobody is like, so team Joe. Nobody's that excited about him. So now everybody wants to bring him to the final three. It is like, okay, if it was you and me and, oh, Gary Dean
B
definitely won't vote for Joe.
A
Exactly. So now it's like, well, I want Gary Dean in the final three because nobody likes Gary Dean.
B
There's nothing wrong with Gary.
A
Joe has a unique way of playing where he's, like, very honest. He hates lying. He hates, like, showboating. He likes integrity.
B
Like everything you. Everything you despise.
A
Yes, exactly.
B
Honesty, integrity, KP hates all that sort of stuff.
A
I do. This is why I don't love Joe. It's just like, to me, a game about lying and screwing people over, and then he comes in being like, why did I just get lied to? Now I have to sulk for two days.
B
Right, okay. Yeah, I do agree with you on that. It's the same with the traitors. When you get people going, oh, no, he's a game player. Like, yeah, yeah, you're all playing a game. That's the whole thing. Yeah.
A
I agree with that. On the traitors, where it's like, everyone was so mad at Robb for lying to them. It's like, he had to. That was his job. He was a traitor.
B
Yeah. It's unbelievable, isn't it? Can you imagine the outcry if he'd have just said, I'm a traitor?
A
Hey, guys, awesome game. I want to let you know, you should all vote me out. One episode. Now we're done. It is. Yeah. So Joe plays with a lot of integrity. He's a firefighter, and he's physically strong, so he's fun to watch at times. Now, RizzGod, this is where my money is.
B
I know nothing about this show.
A
I think if I were a betting man, this is really not a bad bet. He is the youngest player this season. He just played last season. So this is like he's fresh off of his own season of Survivor. Everyone else has had 10, 20 years since their last season. He is really good at alliances and currently what he's got going on is once people know you have an idol and an idol protects you from a vote out. Once people know you have an idol, you're usually pretty much public enemy and they are going to vote for you so that you get rid of that idol. He has said he has an idol. Everyone knows he has an idol. He has said, okay, guys, tonight I'm going to play it. Feel free to vote for me. Don't worry about it. I'm playing it tonight. And then he has not played it and he's been safe. So he now is kind of on borrowed time with this idol because it's, it's making everybody pretty annoyed.
B
Okay.
A
So he will 100% be able to go. You know, he's in the finals because of this. So it's a little, it's a bit irritating. But you got to respect the cockroach behavior of it is the survival.
B
It's excellent gameplay, isn't.
A
Is. I would not do it because again, it's like you don't want to piss people off. You don't want to look like a slimy, you know, you want to look like. I have so much confidence in the things I've done that I don't need to just like slime my way to the end. But I think he has a really good chance.
B
Tell me a bit more about him in terms of. Because in my head I'm thinking of, you know, the Rizzler.
A
I do know the Rizzler. They couldn't look more different.
B
Okay, well, in my head it is the Rizzler. It's this little probably like 14 year old Italian American kid.
A
I think. Yeah, this one is. He's tall, he's really lanky and he's just always smiling and he'll do. He's kind of the king of catchphrases. He'll go, so I told everyone that that's what I'm going to do but that's not what the R I, double Z G O D is going to do.
B
Absolutely love that. Does anyone know his real name?
A
I think it's like Rizzo. He turned Rizzo to Rizz. God. Yeah.
B
Okay.
A
I did not like him at all last year on his season. I said this is kind of just a bit of a dweeb that watches Survivor every single moment, writes down all the right things to do, wants to Create a catchphrase, et cetera.
B
This year, you picked that out. This guy just wants to create a catchphrase. I can tell that's all he's here for.
A
He's always doing stuff to the camera where it's like. But they don't know that the Riz God cometh. Like, he's just, like, doing I love praises. But now this season, I go, I actually really like the way he's playing, and I kind of like that he's adding a little bit of a cartoon drama to it. He's adding Rizz.
B
Yeah.
A
And he's playing in a season with, like, older people, and it's fun to watch him just be, like, a Gen Z energy to people that are, like, 52 years old.
B
Yeah. It must be so confusing that.
A
Yeah. He went to Colby, which is one of the most beloved season two players, and he was like. I just want to say he was crying. He was. I just want to say, like, having you here, like, you're the same age as my dad, and so it's so awesome to have, like, a father figure. It's like Colby's 50 years old. Like, don't say that to Riz. God's 20 something. It's just like, okay, thanks, man.
B
He knows exactly what he's doing there, I think.
A
So he had, like, a. Yeah, he's. I really never thought I would like him. And I go, if he wins, I'd be okay.
B
Okay, so that's where your favorite is as well.
A
Currently, Tiffany is my favorite because she has had to work pretty hard, and on her season two, she had to work really hard to get everywhere. It's like people identified her as a threat, and it just. She had to do some uphill battling, and I think this season she's also done that. So I want her to get the reward. And the reward, by the way, Matt, I haven't told you doubled thanks to a Mr. Beast challenge. So now it is $2 million.
B
Wow. One winner gets 2 million.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. See, I would love to see. I've just seen a picture of RizGod. I would love to see what RizGod would do with $2 million.
A
Big bounce house.
B
He would have the best time.
A
I know. I think he would really just have a lot of joy from it.
B
We've gotta do this for the spinoff series. I think he's ready for, like, his own reality show off the back of it.
A
That's interesting. Some people are getting really crazy with it, and they're saying when Jeff probst eventually retires, it would be Rizgad who takes over. And I'm like, okay, let's not get carried away.
B
Interesting. I've just seen an article on Entertainment Weekly.
A
They said that.
B
And they didn't say that. Just the subheading is. It's obviously something that. It's a quote from Rizgard, which is, they all love the Riz God or they hate the Riz God. That's why I'm kind of here.
A
Okay. The Riz God. I can think of nothing I would call him less if I met him in person.
B
You definitely would. You definitely would.
A
I know, well. Cause now I forget his real name. Unfortunately, he's done the right thing, which is creating a brand for himself.
B
He's nailed it. It's Rizzo Filovic.
A
Oh, his first name's Rizzo?
B
Yeah, I think so.
A
Okay. Okay. Okay, that's cool then.
B
Yeah. Okay. So who else is in this final?
A
Jonathan Young. Now, Jonathan I really kind of liked on his first season. He's getting a little bit of a worse edit this season because he aligned himself with a group of people that just. People liked the other side better. He aligned himself with just like old school players that really were a little stubborn, it seemed to me. But he is jacked. That's kind of his thing is he's a physical threat. He is always gonna try and win a challenge. He gets pretty good at them.
B
Right.
A
And he's got long hair. He's got like hippie pants or in hippie bandanas. He's just got like kind of a.
B
Oh, God, he looks. He looks like the kind of person you'd meet in Thailand on a gap year.
A
Yeah.
B
You'd want to punch him in the head.
A
Yeah.
B
But you wouldn't because he is massive.
A
He's huge.
B
Yeah.
A
He seems, you know, he is quite kind. I think he is really trying to be honest. A lot of times he is, as Serie said last episode, easily manipulatable. You say, hey, I heard you were lying about me. And he goes, oh, my God, who said that? Oh, I'm so sorry. It's just you just say you were lying and he confesses everything. It's like, okay, so he's a little bit easily manipulatable. I don't think he would have the votes to win this just from looking at it.
B
There's lots of pictures of him cuddling people. Is that part of his kind of tactic?
A
I'd say he's cuddly. He's on the hammocks.
B
Usually he's on the hammocks.
A
Uh huh. There's a hammock. And he's usually there making plans. I just think he hasn't made enough moves on his own. So nobody's gonna pick him.
B
Right? Okay, so he's out. Jonathan Young is out.
A
I'd say Jonathan and Joe are out if I were to guess. But they're gonna make it to the final three, I would imagine. Cause that same thing, it's like they're the Gary Deans.
B
Okay.
A
And then finally I'll round out Aubrey. She's very beloved by all Survivor fans, but I don't think I've seen her original season. So I don't love her as much as everyone she came in, which I have to really respect. She came in with just a bitter attitude if you ask me. She just came in already grumpy. She was like, ugh. And here I am and here are these idiots.
B
Great.
A
I know, I'm starting to kind of love it. She just like immediately was in a bad mood. Like she in episode two was rolling her eyes at this woman, like behind her back, like fourth grade style of like, nana, nana, boo, boo. Yes.
B
Gotta respect the commitment to the bad attitude.
A
Sort of making me upset at first. And then I go, eh, she's really survived because from episode one, people were like, aubry's in a bad mood. She is not working with any of us. Get her out. And she has somehow managed to just turn the votes around every single time. So if anyone deserves to win, I'm gonna go. Aubry, Riz. God and Tiffany. I think Rizgot. It seems like RizGod's who you're rooting for.
B
I'm really rooting for Rizzgot. Also the Rizzler, while we're at it,
A
he might be able to pull it off if he comes to the island tomorrow. He might be able to pull it off a win.
B
You know that he would as well if the Rizzler just turned up on the island.
A
It was already crazy when MrBeast came because, I mean, they've had celebrities this season just drop in. And it is funny because, you know, the edit of course, is being like, everyone was so excited to see Zac Brown, the country singer, but then there's
B
Aubrey just looking at her shoes.
A
And there's certain people that are like, there's not a glimmer of recognition in their eyes for this person. Mr. Beast. Everyone was like, oh, it's so awesome having him. And Saree, who's lovely, but she's a mom. She Just was looking with a face like, am I supposed to know this guy? Does this mean anything to me?
B
Would you say he's one of the most famous people on the planet now? I would, but I wouldn't pick him out of a lineup.
A
Yeah, well. And other people were saying, it's interesting because she clearly did not recognize Mr. Beast. Her son was on the Beast games.
B
Oh, that's pretty bad. From a parenting point of view, you
A
would think that she knows a little bit.
B
Oh, no. So she didn't watch it then? She didn't watch her son on the.
A
I don't know. Maybe she saw. Maybe she saw some clips or just heard it from him.
B
Oh, dear. Did you watch the Beast games?
A
No, did you?
B
I watched a little bit of it. When I heard, I read rumors that it was a disaster. And they were like, someone's gonna get killed on this production. So I was like, well, I gotta check this out. And it was fine. It didn't look overly dangerous.
A
I had a friend that was on it. She made it pretty far. And then I had a few friends on the Squid Game one.
B
Oh, interesting.
A
They also did pretty good. Yeah. I've picked up a lot of random friends that like these kind of games because of Survivor, and so they go on these little offshoot ones.
B
I imagine you love these games so much that you'd be the type that would track contestants down on Facebook and LinkedIn.
A
No, no, they track me. They track me. No, no.
B
Okay, okay. They track you. Yeah, yeah. We can keep that narrative if you like.
A
I was at a bar after playing a game of Survivor all day, and a casting agent for the Squid game came up and was like, I heard you guys just did Survivor. And, like, I recognize you from online. You need to be on Squid Game. It's three weeks. We fly you to the uk. We'll fly you back. And I at the time was like, I don't like. I watch the show the Squid Games. This doesn't sound fun.
B
No, sounds miserable. Famously an absolute nightmare, actually. Yeah.
A
Terrible pitch. I go, I saw the narrative show. But that didn't make the games look good.
B
No, it really didn't. Actually a terrible reflection on the games.
A
Yeah. So I said, no, thank you.
B
Really entertaining to watch.
A
Yeah.
B
I guess sort of charm and intrigue around the Squid Games is sort of revolved around the fact that it's lethal.
A
Yeah.
B
Once you take that element out of it, it's fine.
A
Well, I haven't seen my friends in years.
B
Oh, okay.
A
They got rid of them.
B
I'm listening. I'll give it another go.
A
My one friend that I had on the latest season, he was really born for it because he started telling people that he needs the money for a new baby. He just had a new baby. His wife, they've been together 10 years. He has no wife, he has no baby. And he was crying to people. He was like, sorry, I just. It's so hard to be away from them. Doesn't have them, has no girlfriend. There's just nothing there.
B
Incredible.
A
I know. I was really good.
B
What was your favorite? Above rizgod, potentially.
A
He was really good at it. He was talking about his new baby all the time.
B
I would try that, but my reference points are so off. Like, I've only got the cat to go off. It's so tough. I can barely afford litter for my child.
A
The baby loves a ball of yarn. It's his favorite thing. I have to buy that.
B
Put the sachets of food into the.
A
No, he's okay. We just put an electric feeder out. He's fine. The baby's okay.
B
Yeah. Got attacked by a. By a bird in the garden.
A
Yeah, that's. I mean, there's a lot. There's a beautiful, bright history to all this, all these games. We'll see who wins this. We just lost the greatest player of all time. Last episode Saree. She has played four or five times. Survivor.
B
Wow.
A
And she first played when she was 35 years old and it's been 20 years. She's 50 something now. And every time you watch her, you're like, this is exactly how the game was intended to be played. She's like a godfather. Like, no plans get done unless she's a part of them. Everyone's going to her, telling her everything. She's making everyone believe, you know, they're her number one. But unfortunately, her reputation precedes her. I mean, you can't be so notably good and make it to the end. Everyone's just gonna be like, I'm sorry, it's time for you to go. You know?
B
Of course. Yeah. That is one of the flaws in these kind of games, isn't it? If you are too good at them, then you just won't last. You need to play a. Sort of a bit of an idiot, I think.
A
Or you can't come back four times because it's like, now everybody has four data points exactly how you play. You know, they know how you play. Rizgod. Nobody knows.
B
Yeah, he's an enigma, obviously. Keep me in the loop. We will discuss this once the final happens. And before we get to bed, I just want to say a very special good night.
A
I think we know who it is.
B
The one and only Rizgard. Gavin Dean.
A
Oops.
B
No. I was gonna say Rizgard, but I just didn't want to come across as too predictable.
A
Oh, yeah. Yeah. You really threw me.
B
It is Rizka. Of course. It's Rizkod.
A
Rizka, we're wishing you the best. You have two fans. You have a lot more than two, I'm sure, but you have two right here. And so we hope you sleep tight.
B
Good night, Riz. God. And night, kp.
A
Good night, Mat.
