B
And hello, I'm kp. Welcome to the Nightly from Hatch, a slumber party for pop culture lovers.
A
Thank you for matching my hello energy.
B
Absolutely. We gotta have some like, kicking the door down. Yeah, that's what I was feeling.
A
Kick the door down at night.
B
Mm.
A
Are you a horror movie fan?
B
I am a horror movie fan. Yep.
A
There's a play that is currently in Los Angeles.
B
I know what you're gonna say. Yes, yes, yes.
A
It started in Chicago. I am hoping that it is going to tour around the US and eventually make its way international. Paranormal Activity, the play.
B
I've heard such good things. I got friends that have gone three times already.
A
Yeah, it's fantastic. I'm going a second time another night before it leaves Los Angeles. It's so good. I'm a horror fan as well, so it's very good. And I've been doing theater for a long time and I was like, did they do that? Cuz it's also, you know, illusions in it as well for the horror aspect.
B
I've got to catch it. Yes.
A
Yeah, go, go see it.
B
I know. I. I hear that it's leaving soon, but it's such a hit that I hope they'll extend it.
A
I don't know if they can now. They can't cuz something else is coming into that theater soon.
B
I know, I saw that. Okay, I'm going to rush.
A
You got to rush and listen for everybody listening. If you are a horror fan or even if you're not, you're just a fan of theater. This was the first horror theater that I ever saw. And as a horror movie fan and a theater fan, I was very skeptical. Like what could you do in a theater setting that's gonna scare me? And like they had some really good like, oh, crap moments.
B
Wow.
A
And I think like if you're a theater fan and. Or a horror fan, if this or any other horror type play knocks on your door for opportunity, go see it. Go see it. It was really cool.
B
Totally. I'm trying to see more. I mean, it's such a thing to. Even if it's not your cup of tea after, it's like you did something new to talk about to other people. I think it's very fun. I've been trying to get back in as much as I can.
A
Yeah.
B
Because there's some Good stuff going on. I've heard great stuff about this one.
A
It's very good. It's very good.
B
Well, Jacquis. Well, kp, I'm glad that you and I both choose theater.
A
I choose theater.
B
Beautiful art to focus some time on. What if we go through some more snoozing and choosing? I'm going to share a few things that I am seeing all over the place right now. And we are going to choose whether we're snoozing it or choosing it.
A
I love it. Let's do it.
B
Okay. We'll move away from the arts and entertainment. We'll go into fashion. Something big. I'm seeing right now. I'm seeing quarter zips.
A
They're back quarter zips. Like pullovers and jackets and things like that. Shirts and stuff like that.
B
It's a pullover with just. The zipper just goes down a little bit.
A
Yeah, you got one. You got one on right now.
B
I do have one on for those listening. I'm wearing a quarter zip to illustrate my point.
A
It's a nice brown, too, with some orange. And you look like a San Diego padre.
B
I'm feeling very Padre.
A
Yes, yes.
B
The quarter zips.
A
I'm cool.
B
People are, like, trying to run to the thrift to get their hands on just some old vintage quarter zips. What do you think of quarter zips?
A
Now, this is interesting because I think that looks fantastic on you.
B
Thank you.
A
So I choose it for others. I snooze it for myself. I'm not a quarter zip. There's something about the way my chest sits and where my belly meets the. The bottom of my chest plate where I'm just like. The quarter zips don't look right on me, but maybe I just haven't found the right one. Cause, you know, I do like to be sexy. And you know, I do love an open shirt a little bit. I'm not a tie wearer.
B
Right.
A
I love an open shirt. And so, like, this may be something that I can get into that in the past was a snooze for me. That could be a possible choose. So I think overall, I'll choose it. Yeah, I think overall I'll choose it.
B
I. I choose it too. I know I'm wearing one, so it seems like I really choose it. But I am just like, if given the choice between a crew neck and a quarter zip, I love a crewneck. I think crewnecks are just, like, so classic.
A
Yeah.
B
Look good, can't go wrong. So. So between the two, I'm honestly going Crew neck most of all.
A
Oh, yeah. 100%. 100%. And I do like the option of being able to open fully.
B
That's nice.
A
You know what I'm saying? So, like, so like, for a zip up, I want a full zip. Because if I want to choose, I want to choose where I want the zip to end, whether it's off on quarter, halfway, you know. But I am a crew neck person. I love a crew neck. I was into V necks for a little bit.
B
Yeah. I mean, it's a real come and go on the V necks. Like, they have their moment and then you're kind of like, well, it's time to move on.
A
It's time to move on from the V's. So. Yeah, but crew nex is where it's at.
B
Full zip is great. I mean, I travel usually in a full zip. Cause you never know if the plane's gonna be sweltering or freezing. You just don't know. And so that way, easy zipping. I'm zipping back and forth till I feel perfect temped.
A
Yeah, yeah. Every. You know, I've heard about you on planes. You always just. Who's that person at 14B? Just zipping their jacket up and down all day.
B
W. Super loud.
A
She's so loud. And she won't stop. I love that. Okay, we're both choosing it.
B
We're cautiously choosing.
A
We're cautiously choosing. Cautiously choosing.
B
Do you have something for me?
A
I do have one for you, actually. Okay, there is. And this isn't necessarily new, but I do know more people are saying they do this, which is listening and. Or watching podcasts at one and a half speed. Oh, plus, like, so some people would be like, I'll do it at two speed. But most people are like, I at least listen at one and a half speed. Now, if you don't know what that means. And I didn't even know this was an option until I heard people were doing this on your podcast platform. Wherever you decide to listen to your podcast, or even on YouTube if you're watching it, there are options where you can speed the video or the audio up, or you can slow it down too. But everything by default is at a 1, so that's the default. And then if you go lower, like 0.5 or 0, then you're going slower. But most people go 1.5 to speed it up, so they get through it faster. But it's not so fast that, you know, they're alphinatorship monsters.
B
Comprehending. Yep.
A
Yeah, absolutely. And so this is Interesting to me.
B
I think we should give a little example. Let's start doing the rest of this in 1.5.
A
Okay. So, yeah, if you actually do what you want to do, so you understand, you know, you understand that the alarm.
B
And it's get from there. It's actually.
A
Now, if you want to snooze or choose this. Yeah, I'm going to snooze it.
B
That I'm choosing the other.
A
Yes, it's very interesting to me.
B
It is very interesting. I do this, but I really try and not first. My, like, inclination is that I do think it's a little bit bad for our brains, and I'm very protective of my, like, you know, mental health capabilities. Yeah, I only have so much. So I try and be good to my brain where I am. Like, it is good to be patient. It is good to receive information as it was supposed to be given. It's good to slow things down. I think we all have this desire to just, like, get as much in as possible, and I want to try and, like, train my brain that we don't need to constantly be just, like, barraged at with information. But. But there are certain podcasts I listen to where the hosts just are a little slow for me.
A
Thank you.
B
And so those certain ones I do 1.3, I try and keep it, like, just a little bit quicker because otherwise I do find myself just getting irritated because I am like, oh, God, there's so much air. So I sometimes do 1.3. Same with audiobooks. Sometimes I'll do 1.3, 1.5, because I do read quite quick. So I try and get just a little. Sometimes the narrator's a little slow.
A
Got you. Gotcha. I. I don't do this. Yeah, I don't do this. I. I don't listen to podcasts, really.
B
So.
A
But, like, as someone who probably has, like, over 600 episodes of podcast material in the world, so I've done a lot of podcasts. Like, I guess I'm precious because I'm like, when I'm doing something, like, I'm an intentional performer. So listen to me how I'm talking. Like, don't. I don't even think of it. Like, do I listen to it at 1.5, I'm thinking of it like, don't listen to me at 1.5.
B
That's not what I wanted to say it.
A
Like, if I take a pause. Yes, that pause is intentional.
B
You're gonna sit in that.
A
Like, that pause I just took right there. That was intentional. So it's Emphasis. Right.
B
So.
A
I think I gotta snooze this. And I know it's very popular apparently, like I've read. Yeah. But I think I gotta snooze this.
B
I think especially a sleep podcast.
A
Yeah, I was about to ask you that.
B
Uh huh. I think especially this sleep podcast. Now you do whatever you need to do, but I'm gonna insist that you guys listen to this at 1. You could even pop us down to 0.9.
A
I know. You could go lower. 0.8, I think. Let's do this podcast at 0.5. Here we go. So what I'm thinking is that this might be so annoying that you fall.
B
Asleep, that out of spite, you just say, good.
A
Done. I'm done. Yes. Okay. All right. We did it.
B
I'm gonna snooze it too. Because I do just think that the way you consume media is gonna be the way you expect the world to go. And we have to admit that some people talk slow. And that's okay. You can't be rushing them. You can't. In real life, if someone's talking slow.
A
Be like, speed this up. Speed this up. Press the button.
B
So it's good for us to hear things the way they're supposed to be heard and to look inwards at our own patience levels.
A
Yeah.
B
As opposed to outwards at how we could just make the world fit our needs.
A
I love this.
B
That's my thought.
A
Look at this insight.
B
I know. I'm. I'm really. I'm putting my foot down, you guys. We have to work against this. But I'm. I watch Tick Tocks in two times speed. I'm constantly, constantly. My friend thinks it's so insane when I'm watching Tick Tocks next to her. They're all like Alvin and the Chipmunk saying, I know.
A
And they're going faster too, because they'd be moving too.
B
I know. It's really bad for me.
A
That's very funny. All right. Do you have another one for me?
B
I have one last one.
A
Yeah.
B
I'm going back to fashion.
A
Okay.
B
Because it's just, it's what comes across my desk is mixing metals in jewelry. So some people wear all gold, some people wear all silver.
A
Interesting. Oh, okay.
B
And lately I'm seeing a lot of people. You do a gold chain, you do a silver necklace, you do one of each. You're mixing metals in your jewelry.
A
Do you have any questions? Interesting. Now, when you said this, my first thought was I may have a gold chain on and I may have like different color rings on. Or different color watch or something like that, which I don't know if I have a problem with, but if we are talking about mixing metals in the same area. Nah, I can't do that.
B
Okay. I can't do that because my friend just bought some. Like, you can even have it in the same piece. My friend was trying to get me to buy some earrings like them too. It's like she's got some chunky gold hoops, and in the hoops are little silver hoops.
A
Okay. I think that's fine.
B
There's something interesting.
A
Yeah, I think that's fine because it's. Yeah, because like, that's the intended design of that jewelry. So hopefully it's mixing in a way that makes sense with the design of the jewelry. It's just for me to like, put on a gold chain and then a silver chain.
B
Something feels off.
A
Something feels off with that. Now I'm interested because, like, I also do think, like mixing ring metals. Like, I know some people may have like a gold and a silver ring and. Or, you know, things like that. And I think that's fine. So, like, I don't know if I'm like fully snoozing or choosing this.
B
I think this could be a case by case news. Case by case. Shoes. Yeah.
A
You got on rings. Now can I see? We got all silvers, all silver rings.
B
Okay. But I'll wear a gold necklace sometimes. But yeah, that's separate. That's like my neck is doing something separate than my hands are doing.
A
Sometimes I'll wear a gold chain and then I have my ears pierced. So I will wear just like I mostly wear diamonds. Sometimes I'll wear hoops. But like, sometimes they'll just have the silver casing around the diamond. I think that's nice and I think that's fine. But sometimes I do like, I got a couple, like, diamond earrings that have the gold casings around them that I really love matching with, like, my gold.
B
Yeah, it's all about intention. I think mixing is fun, and I think it makes it kind of casual. It's like I'm creating a whole thing. It doesn't have to be so matchy. But there is. I. I enjoy doing all silver most days just because I think it's a little younger. It kind of feels good for me at this time. But I used to be all gold. These. Nothing set in stone. Yeah, I'll be switching it up, you.
A
Know, I don't know. I don't know if I'm snoozing or. This is hard yeah, like you said, I think it's a case by case basis. Yeah, I think it's a body part by body part basis.
B
I think so too. Person by person. I'm gonna say choose because I do, like, just like mixing anything up. I go, that's fun. Yeah, we don't need to be. There's no rules to anything. So I go, I choose. If you're bold enough to just be throwing all your jewelry on at once. Yeah, I think that's great.
A
Then go for it. And I think, I think this could also be in the realm of like, confidence.
B
Yes.
A
You know, if you wearing it confidently and you wearing it like, yeah, I'm that guy. Yeah, I'm that girl. Yeah, I'm that person. Like, if you're wearing it like you pull up in the car and the door open and you come out foot first, just kick the foot up and you just like, you step out with style. Like, if you doing that, I don't care what you got on, I'm gonna like it.
B
Absolutely.
A
I'm gonna like it.
B
Absolutely. I think it's cool. I'm trying to get some more layering pieces cuz I like when there's a lot of jewelry on too. I think that looks cool. I have too many, like tiny little necklaces and I'm like, I want some, some hefty little things that we're putting on top of each other. That could be fun.
A
Yeah.
B
Stay tuned.
A
Yeah. I want to get into rings. I want to get into rings. I'm not a ring person and I want to get into rings. I'm. I'm in my uncle era. I'm in UNC era right now. And I okay with that. I love it.
B
I love the ring.
A
And so I want to get into some rings.
B
Kind of could bring me to a bonus, a bonus snooze or choose. Hand tattoos are kind of replacing rings I've seen for a lot of people. Have you seen a lot of little, like kind of ornamental finger tattoos? I think that look nice.
A
I have. Yeah. People are getting finger tattoos or. And I, I've seen that for sure. I don't know if I would do it for myself personally.
B
Yeah.
A
But like, I mess with it on others same.
B
I like tattoos. I have a few myself. But I do think that on the hands it's just too central. I'm looking at my hands all the time. You know, I like a tattoo to be like, oh, in certain outfits you're looking at that tattoo. In certain outfits you're not. And I think My hands. I'd be like, oh, this. It's a little overwhelming perhaps.
A
Yeah.
B
For me. For me. But I think they look great on others. They're cool.
A
How many tattoos do you have?
B
About eight. Ish.
A
Eight?
B
Yeah. How about you?
A
I'm 11.
B
Yeah. Okay.
A
I'm going to get 12 at some point in the next few months.
B
Yeah. I'm feeling. I've got a few saved on Instagram that I go. I'm gonna be making a visit to their offices soon.
A
Yeah, yeah. Tattoo us up, tattoo us up.
B
Next one's gonna be a fish type thing, I'm thinking. Could be cool, could be nice.
A
And you should have them moving at 1.5 speed.
B
Yes. Flapping their little fins all over me.
A
Yes, yes. Well, I have enjoyed snoozing and choosing all around town with you.
B
Absolutely.
A
And I'm gonna choose to snooze on this pillow.
B
I think I'm about ready to do the same. But first, we actually have a good night from one of our lovely listeners. Let's hear it. Aw. Hi, my name is Holly and I'm calling from Silicon Valley, California. And tonight I want to wish a very happy birthday to two people I love so much. My sister Heather and my husband, Balthazar. Both born on January 6, a day that gifted me twice with people I cherish. You two Capricorns are steady, hard working and always building something meaningful. So for 2026, I'm wishing you a year filled with success, love and exquisitely rejuvenating rest. Happy birthday, Heather and Balta. I'm so grateful for both of you and I hope the year ahead is fantastic.
A
That was lovely. Let us here at the Nightly first say to you, Heather and Balta, I hope you have a beautiful birthday, early year birthday, so that's a beautiful thing and I hope it's a beautiful day for you.
B
That is sweet as can be. I like it. Nobody wished me yesterday for my half birthday, but that's fine. I'm moving on and I'm just gonna focus on the two lovely birthdays today. Happy birthday.
A
Happy half birthday to you too, kp.
B
Thank you.
A
You're welcome. Thank you so much, Holly for sending that and I hope you, Heather, Balta and all of us have a beautiful night.
B
Cass, and you can send your special goodnights to the Nightly at Hatch Co. Feel free, we love to hear them. Good night, Jackies.
A
Good night, K.P.
