Sophia
Hey there. I'm Sophia.
Jackie
And I'm Jackie. So welcome to the nightly from Hatch, a slumber party for the pop culture lovers and all the lovers and friends. Lovers and friends out there. Yes, yes, yes. I love. I. I didn't miss that era of, like, Usher, the lovers and friends era. But I. I don't know where I was because like. Like that era of Usher isn't as, like, prevalent for me, just year era of Usher. I don't know why.
Sophia
I'm trying to think what of Ushers is the most prevalent to me. What for? I don't know if I have an Usher era that has imprinted on me, but I'm curious if you have one and what it is.
Jackie
Oh, I do. 100%. I do. I have two. I have two. So the first one is OG Usher, like midnight or late 90s Usher that you make me want to leave the one I'm with that song and which is about cheats.
Sophia
Yeah, I mean, a ton of his music is about cheating.
Jackie
Yeah. Yeah. A ton of his music is about.
Sophia
I mean, Confessions, obviously one of the best songs of all time.
Jackie
It's great. I love it. I love it. But I remember I loved that song. I loved that song growing up. And that song came out in 97. So I would have been like 11. And my mom had never been like a. She had never been like a. A person that, like, shielded me from certain music. Like, I was. I was able to listen to all types of things. Like, I was singing bump and grind when it came out. Like, I should not have been, but I was. But like, that song, she was like, you ain't listening to that.
Sophia
She was like, it's just too much.
Jackie
It's too much. She was like, you can listen to songs about sex, but you will not listen to songs about cheating.
Sophia
So that's really funny.
Jackie
I love it. I love it. I was like, who her? First of all, I'm like, who hurt you?
Sophia
Of course.
Jackie
And now I'm also. But I get it. But then the second one. This is so funny. I've never actually told this before.
Sophia
The.
Jackie
The second one is the. Sorry, what song was it? It's the song Let it burn, not Let it burn. Oh, when you say that you love her and you really know everything. Like some songs. But it was about. It was about cheating, basically, or going back to Somebody that you wanted to go back to. And my girlfriend at came to me and was like, you know that Usher song? And I was like, yeah. She was like, I feel that way about her ex boyfriend. And she was like, I want to go back to him.
Sophia
Your mom was right.
Jackie
My mom was right.
Sophia
We cannot have this cheetah music in our house.
Jackie
We cannot.
Sophia
Oh, my God. I mean, at least she was honest.
Jackie
She was honest. Yeah. You know.
Sophia
Still hurt.
Jackie
Yeah, it hurts. It hurts still. She tried to hit me up, like, years later, too.
Sophia
You're like. She was listening to Usher again.
Jackie
I was like, girl, get out my dms. Yeah, I know.
Sophia
That's so funny. I don't know if, like, music has ever made me want to cheat.
Jackie
It was wild.
Sophia
But I guess that's happening for other people often.
Jackie
I guess so. I guess so.
Sophia
Okay. But I have some. Something amazing planned for this evening.
Jackie
Let's do it.
Sophia
Which is that I'm thinking that we could air some of our Gratitudes.
Jackie
Oh, you know, I love airing some Gratitudes.
Sophia
Yes, me too. Specifically, I was thinking we could talk about what helps us beat seasonal depression and the winter.
Jackie
Okay. Yeah, Listen, first thing, move.
Sophia
Yeah, move. Move. Sorry, I just said that loud.
Jackie
Yeah, move. Get moving.
Narrator
Get out of there.
Sophia
Get out of there. Get up. Get out.
Jackie
Oh, no.
Sophia
Go to California. You'll feel better there. Yeah, okay.
Jackie
Vacation. Yes, But. But. Yeah, but other things, Other things, Other things.
Sophia
There's also smaller things, and that's what we'll touch upon here tonight. So, Jacques. Yeah. What are you grateful for?
Jackie
You know, I am grateful. I'm grateful for nostalgic tv. I was recently under the weather, and it was a little nippy outside, so I enjoyed just kind of being on. Well, I wasn't enjoying myself. I was under the weather, but I was under the couches. Not under the couches. I was under the blankets.
Sophia
I was hiding under the couch. I was extremely afraid.
Jackie
I was hiding under the couches. I was so scared. I was so scared. I was under the blankets on the couch and I was watching a bunch of cartoons. Like I was watching the Flintstones. I was watching. There's this cartoon. I'm a Looney Tunes fan, just like OG Looney Tunes all throughout history. I have a tattoo of Bugs Bunny on my arm. I love the Looney Tunes. But there was a show that came out around 2010 through 12, somewhere around there called the Looney Tunes show, which was so funny. It was basically. It's basically a sitcom using all the Looney Tunes characters, but they, like, are they are going through, like, everyday life is situational comedy. Like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck live together.
Sophia
Oh, that's funny.
Jackie
Neighbor is Yosemite Sam. It's so funny. And it's a half an hour comedy, linear story, and the characters are funny. And I've just been like. I was just, like, watching that and just enjoying life.
Sophia
Is there a laugh track?
Jackie
There is no laugh track, which is.
Sophia
Oh, I wish there was a laugh track.
Jackie
That would be funny if was a laugh track. But it's. It's very funny. It's. It's more like a single cam sit than anything else. Yeah. For those who don't know the difference, generally single cams are shows like New Girl, as opposed to the traditional sitcom, which is the three camera setup where it's almost like you're acting in a play and there's three cameras recording you. So this one is animated like it's a single cam.
Sophia
Got it. That's so fun.
Jackie
It's so fun. And, like, I just love, like, watching, like, old tv. And I read this somewhere, so I'm grateful for this TV that you watch, that you know the episodes. Well, Nostalgic tv, I heard, is people who watch those a lot generally have anxious minds. And the reason they watch them is because they know what's gonna happen. Like, I've seen these cartoons before. Of course they know what's gonna happen is, you know, there's no surprises coming for them. And it's comfort, and I'm extremely comfortable. Appreciative of that.
Sophia
Yes, that is a good one.
Jackie
Yeah, I know.
Sophia
Comfort TV is amazing.
Jackie
I love it.
Sophia
I've been wanting to revisit. Did you ever watch High Maintenance?
Jackie
No, I didn't, but I do know the show.
Sophia
Okay. I've been. I've been wanting to revisit High Maintenance because it's so cozy and I used to watch. I've like, seen it many times before. Jaime's did a show on HBO or was a show on HBO that started as a web series and is about a guy who delivers weed to people on his bike. And every episode is like a vignette of a different character. And it's such a sweet show, and that's like a comfort show that I've been wanting to return to. But, yeah, it's amazing to have shows that you love and that you're like, I know exactly what's gonna happen. I feel extremely safe and taken care of. And that show in particular, I've been wanting return to because I think kind of similar to, like, A cartoon. It's not like the episodes are very standalone and there's not. I feel like later in the show it got to be more like series arcs, but at the beginning, it's more kind of like standalone episodes that are. You can just pick up wherever you want and it's not difficult to follow, which is nice.
Jackie
Yeah.
Sophia
Yeah.
Jackie
I love that. So what do you. What do you. What are you. What do you. What are you grateful for?
Sophia
Okay. You know what I'm grateful for? I feel like I always say like the same type of thing, but this was spawned by the fact that I had like a snow day with my friends, which was basically. We didn't even go outside and play or anything in the snow, but we just like hung out inside and had what kind of was like a sleepover during the day. And so I would say that my gratitude is for playing with your friends, no matter your age.
Jackie
I love that.
Sophia
And even like we did. We. We played Dress up, which was really fun.
Jackie
That's fun.
Sophia
And we played a bunch of different. We played question games where our favorite question game is we just write questions on a piece of paper and put it in a bowl and you pass around and everyone. You grab one and you have to answer it. We played code names and we played this game called. Have you played Anomia before? It's another really fun. No, Anomia is really fun. I will not try to explain it, but trust me that it's fun and you should look into it.
Jackie
Okay.
Sophia
Anomia. But I just love like literally playing with my friends. It's like my favorite thing in the world. And I just. I pray to God that I never get that. I never stop doing it basically is how I feel.
Jackie
I love that.
Sophia
Yeah. Yeah.
Jackie
I think that's so important, especially the older I get, you know, like, I'm. I'm in my 40th year. I'll be turning 40 this, this calendar year. And I am so tired of like going out to like have drinks.
Sophia
Totally.
Jackie
Or, you know, not saying that. I don't ever want to do that. Like, that's, you know, that's still a good time. But like, I enjoy, like for my birthday this year, I want to do a Nickelodeon themed birthday party where we just play a bunch of Nickelodeon old game shows like wow. Or Legends of the Hidden Temple and stuff like that.
Sophia
Yeah.
Jackie
Like, I. I'm so in my. Let's have fun together.
Sophia
Yeah.
Jackie
Again, you know, like, it's. We can go out and drink anytime or we can go out and go to the bars or do whatever, have dinner anytime. But, like, let's go laser tag. Let's go, like, run. Let's go have some fun. Like, let's do stuff. Because, like, I completely agree. Everything is so hectic.
Sophia
Yeah.
Jackie
So constant nowadays that, like, we just forget to play. So I absolutely love this. I love this so much.
Sophia
And playing with your friends is free. Like, just know that. Yeah.
Jackie
Yeah.
Sophia
No, it is, like, one of the purest joys in my life, I would say, in terms of, like, if everything else feels bad, I'm like, well, I have an amazing time with my friends, and that is, like, just the realest thing in the world. Yeah. And sometimes I'm. I feel like also, I'm like, even if you're hanging out in an apartment, and it's like, let's put on a movie. It's like, wait, let's try playing a game first. Because I want to chat, y'. All.
Jackie
Yeah, let's chat.
Sophia
All I ever want to do is chat.
Jackie
A friend of mine mentioned they were gonna do this, and I was like, that's such a good idea. Like, plan a murder mystery.
Sophia
Yes. That is a classic.
Jackie
Yeah. And I know there are people out there that do these things, and kudos to you, but, like, do them on a more consistent people who don't. Like guys. Come on, try, like, have some fun.
Sophia
And, like, the murder mystery is so fun, though, but it's also a. A bit of a high barrier for entry. I literally say, like, get. Go play dress up with your friends. It's so fun. If you're at one of your friend's apartments, just go through their clothes. Everyone gets to put on an outfit. But the murder mystery thing is very fun. I think, like, an involved. This is kind of what you were saying, too, with the Nickelodeon thing. An involved, like, concept party is amazing.
Jackie
Yeah.
Sophia
One of my good friends has this thing that they call Cringe Con, which is basically their birthday party, is a costume party where you have to dress up in, like, a really embarrassing costume. And it is really fun. It is slightly painful. I said to them this year, I was like, just so you know, a common complaint about the party is that people feel uncomfortable because they look ugly the whole time they're there. And I was like, do you want to keep doing it? And they were like, yes. I was like, okay, then. More power to you. I think you should keep doing it.
Jackie
That's so funny. I love that.
Sophia
Yeah.
Jackie
Yeah. This is. That's such a good thing to be grateful for is not. Not just play but unlocking parts of yourself that, like, want to access that play is. Is special because, like, for instance, you know, I'm a Disney fan, Disney parks fan. I'm a. I'm a theme park fan. Just in general. Like, I go to all types of. I was just at Six Flags, like, recently, too. Like, I love all theme parks, but it breaks my heart whenever I see people, like, bag on, quote, Disney adults or, like, ain't that for kids? You ain't got nothing else to do. And I'm just, bro, first of all, get out my pocket. Like, stop worrying about how.
Sophia
I completely agree. I'm like, go off.
Jackie
Hey, first of all. But second of all,
Narrator
if.
Jackie
If doing things that is, quote, for kids is the worst thing that I'm doing, I'm okay.
Sophia
You're doing more than okay, in my opinion. You're doing amazing. I'm like, we have to reignite our sense of childlike wonder, because it's literally one of the most beautiful things in the world.
Jackie
Yeah, it is. It is.
Sophia
I. That's how I feel. And it's like, I don't know. There's just so many ways to engage with people and have fun that I feel like we often limit ourselves, as you were saying, to, like, bar or whatever, and it's like, you need to expand your mind and really think about all the possibilities.
Jackie
Yeah. The world is a big place, and there's a lot of stuff.
Sophia
There's a lot of stuff that we
Jackie
can do to enjoy. To enjoy this planet.
Sophia
Go to Six Flags, y'. All.
Jackie
Go to Six Flags. Get on a road, even if you don't want to go on rollers. Sometimes I go to Disney. I don't get on no rides. I just, like. I just watch. I just. People watch. I just listen to the music, take in the smells.
Sophia
Of course. Have a good. Have a good meal. My friend. My friends recently went to the, like, country's largest indoor water park in New Jersey, and it's DreamWorks themed. I don't know if you've heard of that, but. And they had, like, an amazing time.
Jackie
Love it. Yeah, I love that.
Sophia
Love that.
Jackie
I love that. Like, I was dating someone a couple years ago who was in Minnesota for a conference, and she had two or three hours, and she went to the Mall of America. And in the Mall of America, they have, like, a theme park, basically.
Sophia
Yeah.
Jackie
And she had a couple hours, and she just bought tickets by herself and just went on.
Sophia
That's so fun.
Jackie
And, like, she was so happy, and it was really beautiful, like, her sending me the pictures of her on the rides.
Sophia
No, I'm like, that is the sweetest thing in the world.
Jackie
Like, yeah, it was beautiful. It was great. And I was so happy that she was happy and she was doing fun stuff and, like, you know, she was in. She was at a science conference, so she was going on. She was on her way back to boring stuff, but, like, but sorry, sorry, scientists. But she was having fun. She was having fun doing something that she wasn't expecting to go do and just feeling some speed and feeling the wind in her hair. It was great.
Narrator
It was great.
Sophia
That is beautiful. And I think that might be even a beautiful note to end on.
Jackie
It's a beautiful note to end on.
Sophia
I'm getting pretty sleepy and I think I gotta turn in.
Jackie
I'm right there with you. I'm about to go on a roller coaster ride to dreamland. So I hope you have a fantastic night. Good night, Sophia.
Sophia
Good night, Jacques.
Jackie
Sa.
