Today's episode is sponsored by Xfinity. Okay, I need to tell you all why I love Xfinity Internet so much. It is like a major not want in our household, but a need. So this time of year, I'm all about the holiday music. And I can only play my holiday music with Xfinity Internet when there's no Internet connection or the connection isn't stable or strong. There is no vibes or music playing in my house. So that is such a must for me because it's crazy when I think of how much I do off my phone, even in my home. Whether it's the apps I use for bedtime, it's apps that I use for music that I love. Everything is always coming from my phone and I always need a strong connection on top of that, it's also for my security cameras. Not only is it important to have Internet, but it's important to have a reliable Internet. And that's Xfinity.
Brie Bella
Right?
Nikki Garcia
And it's amazing the power that it has to connect so many devices under one roof. You can have 10 people on different devices all under Xfinity Internet and it all works. Incredible.
Unknown
And what more do you need? Right?
Nikki Garcia
Nothing more.

And that's why everyone it's A very important to stay reliably connected.
Nikki Garcia
That's right. Even when everyone is online at once.

Exactly.

You know, today we have a very, very special guest. A guest who has impacted, empowered, and advanced the sports media industry for women. Someone that I had the privilege to work with, and I hope I get to work with her again. So, everyone, please welcome broadcast journalist and TV personality Carrie Champion.
Hello.
Brie Bella
I'm so happy to be here. I'm a huge fan. Been a fan. Let me just fangirl for a long time. And then, you know, it's very hard in this business to have a reputation where everyone loves you and everyone loves you both.
Unknown
That means so much that.
Nikki Garcia
Goodness.
Unknown
I was like, we first have to get into. Even though it's been so long, but we have to talk about unfinished beef.
Brie Bella
Oh, please, let's.
Unknown
Because that was such an incredible experience. And I feel like. I mean, I just. We. I haven't even really discussed it with you, with anyone. And that was such a great experience for me and opened up my eyes to competitive eating. And I just raved about you. I was telling Bri. I'm like, bri, you don't understand. Like, wasn't that so interesting?
Brie Bella
I had so much fun. I will tell you this. When we first started doing it, because I covered the original, like, the old hot dog contest. When I first started working at espn, it wasn't as glamorous as what you and I did. It was really like an event. And I, you know, I. And I like to be like, I like to have my champagne. I like to be cute. It was an event. And I was like, oh, this is. I wasn't ready. But I started to learn. I wasn't ready. It was like, okay, you got to come here and eat. You got to hang out with the boys. You got to be one of the boys. I was like, I can do that, but this is, like, for competitive. Eating is a whole nother level of sport. And to be able to see these two men who are considered the best in the business added. And they're legendary. They really are. We're talking about Kobayashi, and he, to me, was the one everybody wanted to deal with first. And then we watched him as he kind of, you know, not necessarily lost his power, but he was no longer the main man. Joey Chestnut would just take him out. And then I realized that it's very similar to covering basketball, football, women's basketball, soccer, you name it. Very similar in the sense that they only have one focus. They are so linear, focused, and they have to win. And I was impressed by the entire way that those two were able to come together, put their differences aside. Money does that. And then, of course, your sister, she walked right in. I didn't even miss a beat. And I was like, I would be nervous. Were you nervous? I was so. I would have been so nervous to walk into that environment. I would have been terrified. I would have been. I'm not even being funny.
Unknown
No, totally. There was. I had some nerves, but it's weird. I thrive with the live crowd especially. I almost felt like I got, like, too fired up. I was, like, ready to go.
Funny, because you said when you heard Carrie in rehearsals, you're like, oh, well, rehearsals.
She's so good.
Do I sound that good?
I'm like, you. Like, I need to practice a little bit.
Brie Bella
Oh, no. And you were genuinely your sister. For everyone who's listening, you were genuinely enthusiastic. And I think I would have been a little like, oh, okay, you know, not as ready. You. The best part was that you were genuinely enthusiastic and you loved it. I might have been too polished, you know, because I've been doing the business too long, and it needed people who hadn't seen it before and experienced it. And you. You all provided the best mood. I have never. And I've been doing this a long time. I have never worked with such an easy group of folks.
Unknown
And for you to think live, like, we went straight through, no commercial breaks.
Brie Bella
That was.
Unknown
I watched it live on Netflix. I had it in my I have my, like, little TV area right next to my kitchen. So I was cooking, and I had it on, and I was watching.
But it was funny because, Nikki, you.
Were telling me one thing you and Carrie were blown away by is that the guys are almost like athletes in a way. Like, they. I don't want to say stretch.
Like, the preparation.
Yeah. Like, how they prepare.
Yeah. And even the side acts that were by the pool, I just was blown away of the emotion. Like, I didn't think I would feel that. Like, I felt like I was that, like, the woman eating a Super bowl.
The woman with the watermelon.
Brie Bella
I mean, let's just be honest. There's something disgusting about competitive eating, and you have to embrace that part of it as well. I still was. I couldn't turn away. I just could not turn away.
Unknown
And I guess when you know your talent is something, you go for it. And if it's eating hot dogs really.
Fast, Joey Chestnut was born to do that. I anything like that in my life, up close and personal.
Brie Bella
And he's like, this is what I do. I think it's interesting, and I know that it could be made fun of, but have you. And you all know this. You found what you do well, and you've made a life out of it and a career out of it, and, you know, you do other things really great. He's like. Like, this is what I do great. I don't do anything better than this, and I'm going to do it to the best of my ability. And he has so much pride, and I feel like we should take that with all of our jobs, no matter what we do. You know what I mean?
Unknown
Totally.
It's so true. The heart and the passion and the dedication. There was honor in there. Like, I was. I was blown away, and it was true. Like, when I saw the backstory of it all, like, those packages gave me chills. I'm like, oh, we found what he was meant to do. Like, something he was ashamed of and felt different about. And then he found his purpose.
Nikki Garcia
Okay, so that wraps up today's Opening up segment. Thank you, Xfinity. To learn more about how you can experience a reliable Internet connection with Xfinity, visit xfinity.com Cara, have to say something.
Unknown
That you're great at and that you started your podcast.
Brie Bella
Podcasting is so interesting. Okay, so during COVID or the Pandemic, when everyone was at home, I think a lot of podcasts began then, and that's when mine began, because, you know, we were, like, sitting around we were in the house. What we, what are we going to do? And I think something that I've struggled with as a woman being in this business is just realizing when I can bring my full self to work and be my authentic self without being judged. I think we're always in our heads about what we look like or what are we doing. And I created this podcast called Naked, initially just Naked. And I just wanted to interview people and I wanted them to talk about their life and what their experiences were and just really interesting people. But I wanted you to be raw, like super naked. But it never works out that way, right? It takes a while for it to get its beat. Your show takes a while to find its rhythm. And then fast forward four years later, it's now evolved to Naked Times Sports. So I incorporate the sports element of it. But it made me just want to talk to people and have them be really honest. I've had some really special people on the show that make me happy. Like Ashlyn Harris. Who? Soccer player. She's Aiden Sophia Bush. Now she came on and she's just so ready to tell her story. And I'm all like, yes, I want that. I want people to know it's okay to make mistakes and figure it out. Like, I'm not always going to be right. I'm, you know, or, you know, I could. We could have anything happen to us. And especially being in the public eye, I want to save space to go and talk about it and tell my side of the story, you know what I mean? If you will. And I wanted to provide that because I felt like athletes were always getting, you know, they're always being talked about. They make so much money, nobody cares about them. They're like, so what? You make money, no one cares. That's why I created the podcast world. And it's so much easier because I don't. I feel like I'm just talking. I don't feel the pretense of a camera, you know what I mean?
Unknown
Totally.
I agree. And it's nice to give a really deep answer back because I feel like so many times we're all in these interviews, you're given five minutes and then you feel like you have to give a 30 second answer. And there's so many times I'd walk away from an interview and I'm like.
Oh, it's not really what I meant.
To say, you know, I just didn't have the time to explain myself.
Brie Bella
I love you guys. Love your podcast. Do you all love your podcast?
Unknown
We love it. It's fun because we started. When did we start? 2016, 17, maybe? We just get to talk. And we're lucky we have each other. So a lot of the times we're just talking to each other. For us, it's kind of like an extension of what our reality shows were. We just talk about our lives or things that interest us. We get to bring amazing people on and chat with them. And that's, I think, what we love. Because like Bri said we'd always go away, like in interviews or whether we'd watch it too. I was like, I'm not fulfilled. I didn't get enough from that person or I didn't give enough.
Brie Bella
I. You. First of all, I love. I'm just watching. Let me tell you what I'm thinking. The whole time I was like, I have a half sister. We have the same father. I don't think we could ever do anything together.
Unknown
Yeah, no. I mean, we do life together.
We used to be neighbors. We'd like, we were a few doors down. And then Bri moved and I was like really upset about it, but she moved like 10 minutes down the road. But I was like, that's so far. You were distant. She was so mad.
And I was. I'm literally like, you know, maybe like a little 10 minute space would be good for us. Like, I'm.
Brie Bella
Why'd you move? You just wanted to be in a different neighborhood or you just.
Unknown
No, you wanted a bigger house?
The backyard is what sold us. Like, to be honest, I wasn't even looking. But then all of a sudden I was like, you know, I wanted chicken, so I have chickens now.
Brie Bella
Oh, I love that.
Unknown
Yeah.
So you have a greenhouse, but thriving fruit trees. Yeah. So I just like, girl, you can come visit me.
Brie Bella
That's the beauty of when you can have space. That to me is a great life. Because when you're out in the world, I go back and forth between New York and la. And so whenever I come back home to la, I feel that though I need both worlds, I go back and I go forth and I need. Right now, at this time in my life, I need both worlds.
Unknown
New York especially. I feel like as a woman, when I step into New York's energy, I also feel more confident that more business mind. Like, I don't know, it's like your Hustler jacket goes on and I'm like, let's do it.
Brie Bella
Me, 100%. It gives me both. It gives me the best of both worlds. Like, I get to. I moved here for work and then I thought to myself, oh, I'll find, like, a good group of friends and it'll be harp. I. I don't. I don't have an adage. I don't mind new friends, but the relaxation, like, if I want to take my hair off, you know, I can't.
Unknown
Yes.
Brie Bella
I.
Unknown
Because if I meet new friends, it's almost like you have to go on, like, a friend date.
He's.
Other than that, it's. Yeah, it's like dating.
And I don't. I'm like you. I want to be relaxed around the people that I'm close with. Like, yeah, she'll do a lot of mom stuff, and I'm still not there yet because she hates mom.
Go on a play date. I'm like, just go. Do it.
Like, it's not that I won't, but it's just not relaxing.
Brie Bella
Why isn't it relaxing?
Unknown
Because I just feel like, you know, you have to be in conversation. And it's not like, you know, where we could sit in silence for a little bit or just talk about anything and nothing at the same time. And there's two moms, I feel like. Or few. But other than that, it's very, like, for state vibes. Yeah.
Brie Bella
Yeah. You feel like you have to keep the conversation going.
Unknown
Yeah.
And what's weird for me is I've connected to a lot of moms here where it's very easy for me. Like, I don't feel that, but she does. And so it's interesting how we both adapted to the same place.
Right. But you're like a DIY mom. Like. Like, we call her, like, Pinterest.
I'm selling a Pinterest mom.
Brie Bella
Oh, well, you do it all.
Unknown
She does it all.
Like, I went on a walk earlier this morning, and I saw some massive fall leaves, so I picked one up because I'm like, oh, perfect arts of crap for my son later. Like, we can make a cute little.
Brie Bella
Turkey out of you.
Unknown
I am like, that person, kind of.
Brie Bella
Oh, that's great. Oh, that's great. You know, I was gonna ask, what about if you don't like their kids, you have to hang out with the parents?
Unknown
That is a thing.
That's a thing.
Brie Bella
Yeah. Because my friends are all complaining. They're like, I can't stand so and so's kids. And they always. We're always in this state. I'm like, oh, we. Are you not allowed to like children?
Unknown
No, it is a thing. And, like, you know, being ghosted is not for the single people. It's Also, like, moms can ghost other moms over, like, liking kids.
Well, and it's really hard when you really like parents and you like to hang out with them. But then if you don't like their kids because you're like, how. How are we going to do this? Because your kids come first. Like, I was just watching a video on I can't remember where because I can't be Instagram, but they were saying how when we give birth to babies, their cells stay in us. And that's why moms are crazy connected. And I just feel like those times, like, if you don't like a kid and. Or they don't like your child, like, you just get the craziest vibes and you're willing to break up with a friend for that.
Brie Bella
Wait, can you tell someone doesn't like your children? Do you guys ever hang out with people? You say, like, sheila doesn't like my son or someone so doesn't want to. You guys can tell when someone doesn't like your kids? Oh, yeah. Oh, for sure. And what do you. I would say, so are you not allowed to say anything?
Unknown
I think a lot of moms are honest. I feel like there's definitely some that now I haven't really felt it. I'll be honest with my kids as much. And even my son, like, he's a wild boy, but I hang out with, like, the kids that he can hang. And he's always like, different. Like, I don't know. But I definitely have been around where other moms, like, all sudden there's a kid who comes and they're like, I don't. This child is not. Like, they just. They'll be selling and they'll leave. Like, they'll leave. The mom world is, like, bonkers.
Brie Bella
Oh, no, I broke her. Like, you wait and see. However you decide to do this, you'll. These mothers are legit crazy. You have to be their friend. I was like, he's saying the same thing about you, though. Like, I'm like, they're calling you crazy too. She's like, probably so.
Unknown
Like, I'm probably called, like, the mom that doesn't give a shit. Like, the one. Like, they're probably like, does. Because, like, I feel like when I'm out in the mom world, like, in.
The wild of it all, like, I'm.
One of the ones who might be a little more subtle and, like, I kind of just watch and, like, I'll chit chat. And I'm very, like, cautious how I speak in a way, which is Weird. Where a lot of moms. I'm sometimes blown away. The stuff they'll say, even about other people. Like, I never talk bad about anyone.
Brie Bella
Yeah. No.
Unknown
I'm like. I know they're gonna go say it. So I just don't get caught up in drama. But I'm always like. I wonder when they walk away if they're like, either Bri doesn't have an opinion or, like, doesn't care for sure. You know what I mean?
Probably.
And there has to be nicknamed for me.
Yeah.
Brie Bella
Well, like. Or maybe they think she's guarded. I know I'm. I don't like to. I don't think, first and foremost, you don't talk shit about anybody, especially in front of new people. I mean, I'm not.
Unknown
I'm not.
Brie Bella
Not human. If someone has a bad person around me or like, some of my girlfriends recently got engaged, if I don't necessarily like their guy, it's not necessarily my place to say something. I just, you know, I. I'm very guarded. I. You know, you like it. I love it. You know, you. You want to get married, honey, that's all you like. I'm never going to be the person to say, I don't like your dude. That's. You're asking for friendships to break up, but when you're around people you don't know that well, you should not. It's just like a rule, see?
Unknown
And I'm lucky. I get in the car and I call her immediately.
Brie Bella
You're like, let me tell you what happened. I felt that way on set. I had a couple of people that said that I. That didn't work with our actual. This is me being TT right now, Guys. Here's my. Yeah, there. Who I did not know, and I didn't work with them. And I felt like this very. Some. Everybody's not great. You got a staff of 5,000 people. But then you might have a few people who are so intense. And you're like, oh, okay, I'm gonna stay away from so and so. Cause they're so intense. And those kind of live moments. You don't need that energy like this. And you're trying to be relaxed. I kept looking at your sister. She was. She. You seem to be having a. I mean, not even kidding. Having fun. Like, you were jumped out. She's having a good time, and my guy loves it. She has such a good time. I turned Chris. I'm like, chris, can you loosen up a bit? Like, everyone's having fun. Sir. He didn't know how to get here. But he figured it out. But I was just like, I don't want to be around intense people at all while I'm working. I wanted to be like, the energy.
Unknown
Gets uncomfortable, especially when you got to do it on tv and you're like, okay, you cannot give me this right now.
And you and I are big with energy. Like, it can literally affect us. So like if came up like for example, if I was about to go live on TV and if I was with a co host and all of a sudden they made a, like a weird comment to me and all of a sudden they're like, hey, like 10, nine. It could like literally change me.
Brie Bella
Oh, 100. Well, and by the way, just so you know, working in sports, like and you know this, but working on camera in sport, I feel like sometimes the men behind the camera, if they haven't played a sport become a little more. And I don't want to use, I want to make sure I use the right word. They are much more high maintenance to me because it feels like they don't want you to be there and they feel like if you outshine. I've had so and not, you know, well known people, but I've had so many men that I've worked with like just before we went on air try to get in my head. And when I was young in the game, it would affect me. I would be like, wait, I didn't say that name right.
Unknown
I'm like half the time just, I don't, I never was learned how to pronounce I swear letters properly.
Brie Bella
But names are hard. I started off in tennis. Can you imagine these names? Oh no. From every part of the world, all over the globe. I remember there was this one tennis player back in 2009, this is where I first started in the business. And her name was Svetlana Kuznetsova. And I just say it like it's no big deal today. But when I tell you I had to be terrified saying her name correctly because my male co host were giving me so much crap. They were like, do you even know the sport her name is? Her name is. And I would just be so nervous every time that I would have to say her name. But it was a tactic, you know what I mean? And then I learned, I was like, oh, you're just trying to sabotage me. I'll figure this out.
Unknown
Honestly, I couldn't even imagine being a broadcaster in sports and like starting the time of being a woman because I even still feel as a female fan of sports like guys are the first ones that want to challenge you. Like, what's the quarterback's name? Who's this position? Who's that? When you're just like, I just, I'm a fan of the team. I didn't know you had to take a test.
Brie Bella
You don't. But they want you to prove your loyalty or like do. No. And I don't know if you feel the same way. In your business we get there's no benefit of the doubt. Meaning maybe I know the name, but I might have said it wrong this time, but I'll say it right the next time you say it wrong once. They're like seeing all the sport.
Nikki Garcia

But I feel like you know when.
Nikki Garcia
They ask you like what would you.
Unknown
Tell your 20 year old self? You know I feel like that's always asked.
Nikki Garcia
I'd be like I would ask my.
Unknown
20 year old self what would my 40 year old self say? And like the minute I turned 40 I gave like no.
Brie Bella
Like really?
Unknown
Oh my gosh. This is my era of like wow. Like I could care less. Like I always want to perform really well and I go out there and give my all. But I just, in the past year I'm like, and if people don't like the way I perform, they want to hire me again. Better loss. Like I just started to get this great confidence. I'm like, whoa, is this what happens when you turn 40?
Brie Bella
And also repetition. You're putting in your. If they say your 10,000 hours and anyone who is criticizing you, I dare them to do what you all have been able to do. You guys are self made in so many ways. Like, I always think to myself whenever I have any self doubt how I have arrived at whatever moment I've arrived at. And I just remember it's that that has gotten me there. I'm not, I'm very confident overall, almost to the point where it scares people. Like, I know when I'm like, no, I'm doing it this way because. And this is the advice that I gave myself all throughout my entire career. But it was, I know what I'm good at and if I don't double down on that, I'm never going to be comfortable. So if I execute the one thing that I'm really, really good at. So for me, it could be ad libbing or it could be, you know, I'm a huge Laker fan. So when I first started working at espn, I would talk about the Lakers all the time because that was my team and Kobe was my favorite player and I had met him. Like I grew up on Kobe. Obviously I was older than Kobe, he's a little younger than me, but I grew up on Kobe. And so I felt very comfortable in that or I felt comfortable in talking tennis or. Because that was like I did that before. But then the. I felt comfortable ad libbing. I felt comfortable just talking and talking and doing whatever. So I leaned on that. And that one thing that you do well, I just apply it to everything and it just relaxes you. And you're like, this is the one thing I could do well, I don't know, I don't, I don't know baseball. Like someone will say, oh, can you cover baseball? And I'm like, I really don't know what that was. I mean, I can do it, but not, you know, I'm not a baseball expert and I'm not trying to pretend to be. Like, I'm telling you what I do well and it ain't baseball.
Unknown
So do you remember at all in your career where you were just like, whoa, like this is easy now. Like, do you remember that moment?
Brie Bella
Yes. I started off in local news. This is so funny. I was like a local news reporter and I would carry like the camera and the tripod and I would edit all my own videos. And they call it a multimedia journalist now. It was a one man band back in the day. And when I graduated from ucla, I went to a very small town and I was awful. Like, I was just awful. Looked awful, horrible. I didn't know what I was doing. Camera, come on. And I just stare and I'd say anything. Then I went to. I got to Florida. That was like maybe my second job in West Palm. Second or third job, I don't know. I've been doing it for like three or four years. But there were a lot of hurricanes. And what they did was, is, you know, you see the reporter blowing in the wind. They all of us out in the field and we were all blowing in the wind. And I promise I was on air maybe for 12 hours straight because we were just wall to wall programming. And they would just come to me and say, say something. So by like hour five, I was like, I'm comfortable. Like, here it is. Three years. It took me three years. But I needed to be on TV and just talk. And that's when I was like, oh, I'm not as nervous. Like, because when I first got there, I was nervous. Even like when I was working with you, I was. I still have some anxiety, especially if I'm working, to be thrown into a new environment. You don't know anybody that you're working with. You don't know the producers. This is 2048 hours. I think we had to rehearse. And it's a huge production. All of that can give you anxiety. Not necessarily nervous, but can give you anxiety because you don't know. You're like, we're just doing this for the first time. Here goes.
Unknown
And you want to perform so well live. And it was like Netflix second live, I think show they did second or third. And so you just put. So I'm somebody who puts a lot of pressure on myself.
Brie Bella
Like, you seem easy breezy. Easy breezy. That's. So that's. That might be your. That like, that's the quality that.
Unknown
Well, and that's where like I double down on. I think I love how you said that because that's so good for people to hear. Like, I bring the fun and the realness to things and I always have to tell myself, Nicole, they're not looking like you add an expert at all. As a professional, you bring what people on the couch feel like you're the person on the couch, but you get to be right there in front and you bring that energy of, like, what's.
We just always have to remind you, no dick jokes. Like, I was like, told her because she loves, like, dick jokes. I go, nicole, there's going to be a lot of hot dog talk.
Brie Bella
Yeah.
Unknown
When you and Rob had all the jokes. Yes, Rob, I let him. I wasn't going to step on, like, his toes at all with any jacks.
I have to say, for all of our listeners listening right now, I think.
Nikki Garcia
You know, we've been talking a lot.
Unknown
About journaling the last couple of months, but I think everyone should, like, take a moment and write down what you think you could double down on. I love how you say that. And I think people need to write it down. And you might put down five things and then relook and then be like, actually, but it's this one. And yeah, that's so important one.
Like what you were saying before. See, like you said when you entered 40 and how you feel about certain jobs, like, it's.
Brie Bella
You're.
Unknown
You don't give a shit. But Carrie says is, I go into things and it's just kind of like, oh, this isn't for me, and that's okay. Or I own the things. And I'm like, oh, this is meant for me. This is where I'm comfortable and I should be and what's right. And I kind of feel like now where I'm at is like, okay, I won't go like I did the Traders. And I'm really excited that that's coming out soon, and I love that show. So when the opportunity present itself, I'm like, I got to do that. What I know from that experience is I do not game and I will never do gaming again. And I. Yeah, I was like, what? Oh, this is nuts.
And I was like, survivor for you.
Brie Bella
No Survivor, no Big Brother to know what you don't like. I think in our business, especially, you want to be all things. You want to be relevant, you want to stay in front of the camera. There's a lot of things. And then sometimes you have to just realize that's not my lane, and I don't do that well. And I. What I'm going to have to pass that to me. In this business, the hardest thing is saying no. It's hard to say no to people that I love. My friends, my family, I think women, you know, you guys watch Barbie. You guys saw the movie.
Unknown
Oh, yes.
Brie Bella
So I mean, her monologue, America wasn't It, like, I was like, this is. This is every woman, no matter who you are, no matter how tall, short, small, big, not shape, size, color. Every woman feels exactly that. You feel like you can't win sometimes. And I. I always say, like, I have a mentorship program, and I always tell the ladies they want, especially in a generation where you want to even really fast and you feel entitled and you have. And you think you should be having. Making this amount of money at a certain age. These girls are like, 25, and they're like, I would like to have $10 million. I was like, well, do what do you. Okay, what do you do? What is your skill? It doesn't work that way, Erica. Like, you have to have a skill set. And I always, always remind myself, I cannot be everything to everyone. It is impossible. And I've also found my most success comes when I stay with what I know in niche. Not to say don't try anything different, but when you try to be all things to everyone, you're inevitably going to fail at that in a large way. So I think of podcasts that are popular. You think of yours, you think of, like, a Joe Rogan or a Theo. They're very, very specific. Or the Breakfast Club. They're very specific who their audience is, and they know what they do well, and they do that all the time. And to me, if. If we learned that, we would be so far ahead of the game as women, instead of feeling like we have to please everyone at all. It's impossible. It's just impossible.
Unknown
Well, it's like, literally, what, Like, I feel like in the last decade, my one thing in therapy always was, like, trying to work on stop being a people pleaser. Because. And I look at my mother, I look at my grandmother. Like, we had watched all the other women in our family do it, but, like, that's my biggest. Been my biggest fight in life. And what has made me fall or has made me have my biggest mistakes or regrets was always, like, putting my feelings aside for other people.
Brie Bella
Yeah. And you never win that way. That is a hard lesson to learn. I think women inherently are pleasers. Like, I know my. My friends who are moms, and you guys can feel like this. You think every day I've done something bad. You know, you're like, almost moms are always feeling bad. My mom told my mom, I feel so bad. I'm like, you raised me refined. She was like, but there was things I just didn't do for that part where they're older. Like, my mom did this When I was five, you're like, I did everything wrong, you know, but was this one of these things? I'm just like, we have to own, you know, what we can control, and it's so, so hard to do. And I just remind myself that. I remind myself of that all the time. There are so many things, like, people like, Carrie, you've accomplished so much, but there's so much I haven't done. And. And. And in those deep, deep, dark, you know, corners, or when you're not feeling your best about yourself, you're like, oh, I. I didn't. I didn't win here. I don't let you fail. I do. I didn't win there. And that makes me feel away. And I always have to say, I can't please everybody. I can't do all the things. I mean, it is a. You asked about a mantra. That is a mantra. I cannot please everybody. I cannot do everything. To give yourself grace, you got to give yourself grace. Like, I couldn't even imagine. And I don't. Look, we're not best friends. I could. I could guess what a schedule looks like, whether it's working, whether it's taking care of the kids, it's nonstop squeezing in a podcast. Being a good wife, being a good sister, being a good best friend, being a good business partner. We just do. We do it all. And we don't even give ourselves any grace if we make mistakes, especially as women. And I'm all like, I can't. I cannot. And I only have how many hours in the day, and I can't spend five of those hours beating my. Myself up because I didn't do everything I was supposed to do. Right.
Unknown
It's so true.
And we don't even allow this. I don't at least any of those hours of my day, be like, to just sit on a couch and read a book or watch a show because I feel guilty.
Yeah.
And I'm like. But I should.
Nikki Garcia
I should allow myself to do that.
Unknown
Because I was doing laundry all morning because my dog eat on my rug and then pooped on one of this part of my house.
And I was like, I'm taking that into 2025. Like, one thing I've realized from 2024 is I didn't come to this earth to fix you. And that's like, relationships or any of that. You have to fix yourself. And whatever you've gone through, I'm here to fix myself. Your shit ain't my shit, your shit ain't mine.
Brie Bella
Shit.
Unknown
And that's relationships. Business, you know, and just like, the pleasing.
Brie Bella
The hardest. That's the hardest lesson. And, ladies, help me. I don't know a man I haven't dated that I haven't tried to fix. I'm like, you know what? I can fix that. That can be. You know what I mean? Or my friends, my best friends always laugh if I do attempt to have new friends. And they're not like, true truths, but they're like, here's Carrie with another project, trying to. And I go, I cannot do that. I could just be the best. I. That's all we can do. And. But I. I'm telling you this because it is constantly on repeat in my head. Like, I already. You know, it's on repeat because I. We're so hard on ourselves. We're so hot.
Unknown
It's crazy. I was telling Brie last night, sleep. Because through the night, I'm going through the checklist.
Brie Bella
Oh, me.
Unknown
I did. Did. Is this person affected because I didn't do this? Oh, I need to do that. Or like, I just told her, we went on a power walk this morning, and I was like, going through the thing, and she's like, oh, my gosh. I'm like, I know. I gotta go in 2025, I gotta change this.
Brie Bella
Yeah, you gotta. You got a clean house and you have to just prioritize whatever's gonna give you, first of all, peace. Like, I don't know. I mean, who knows what we are, you know, ultimately supposed to do? But I think you guys know what your. Why you were put here and what the bigger picture is and what you're supposed to be doing, your purpose. Because I feel like that's all what we should be striving for. And our purpose doesn't have to be major in the sense of I want to change the world and I want to rebuild this. But it could be just as simple as just being a good human and raising good humans. Because guess what? I don't think anybody put stock in that anymore. You know what I mean?
Unknown
Right? That's why, like, for me, I was like, the minute I had my daughter in 2017, I told my husband, like, I'm going to take the step back. And for you here, because I was like, I just couldn't imagine anyone else raising my kid.
Brie Bella
I'm like.
Unknown
But, like, I literally, when I plan out my schedules or even when work comes my way, I'm very picky. What I say yes to, because I'm like, my kids are first. Because I know, like, to keep this planet healthy, and thriving. Like, we need to raise good humans. And in order to do that, I want to be. Be the one to raise up. And so. And I'm like, you know, I'm a good, fun mom, but I'm also strict, and I let my kids know, and I'm very honest with them. Like, I let them know, like, when they're wasting money. And Even though they're 4 and 7, I'm like, well, we got to learn now.
Brie Bella
Got to learn now. And first of all, I love you, Sagittarius. That's the first thing. When I grew up. Money doesn't grow on trees. You do know that. I mean. Well, I mean, we grew up very, very humble. Like, humble, humble beginning. So she would, like, the weekends would be when I could go and we'd eat out and our. Eat out. For me, when I was a kid, I went to McDonald's. I remember she would be like, you know, because my mot was a single parent, she raised me by herself. I. Seven years old. When you talk about your kids being seven years old, she. My. And my mother gets upset when I tell this story, but I tell the story because. Not because I think it's a, you know, a badge of honor, but it was. It really spoke to our circumstances. You know, she had me when she was 20, so by the time I was seven years old, she was working so many jobs, if she had any energy to spend with me, she did. But she was tired. She'd come home from work and she'd be exhausted, and I would just look at her and be like, gosh, she's so tired. And I remember being like, why are you so tired? I used to ask her that all the time. And I just felt so. I think now, looking back on it, I feel. And I felt bad for her, but she didn't have a. She didn't have a choice, right? There was no other alternative. There was no money for childcare. My, you know, my grandmother, her mother worked and. And I think she did the absolute best she could possibly do. But there were things like she. I just can't say certain things that I remember happening when I was a kid. I'd be like, you know, remember I used to walk myself to the bus stop when I was 7 years old? She's like, don't say that ever again. I'm like, mom, it's okay. She's like, don't tell anybody I made you walk. And I was like, you didn't make me. She was exhausted. Like, she. She couldn't. She didn't have it. And when I got to high school, I made a joke out of it. She used to drive me to school every morning in high school. She would get up out of the bed before she went to work. She would do all the things she thought she didn't do. And I was like, what a tough job. Like, you all have a very, very tough job, and you have resources. Imagine not having any resource for a husband or any help. And I just give her so much grace. My friend the other day said, once I started having kids, I forgave my parents for everything.
Unknown
She must be so proud of you.
Brie Bella
Yeah, Yeah. I was like, no, she is. She loves me. She thinks I'm great. And she's like, you turned out fine. I was like, yeah, but you can't make kids walk to school. Seven nowadays. You can't do that. Gosh.
Unknown
I keep thinking, like, how am I gonna. Like, when Mat wants to ride his bike in the neighborhood? Like, I don't know how I feel about that now. Like.
But I will say, I see a lot of kids riding their bikes at young ages right now. And I'm like, maybe parents feel safe because so many of us, parents are driving to school. So we see that. I know you all grew up.
Brie Bella
Did you guys ride bikes in your neighborhood where? Yes. Now you're like, wait a minute. There's just no way I could ever do that.
Unknown
I think we would go walk to Arby's or like. Like, Circle King at Treats. And, like, we'd be walking on a busy road. And like, my parents. And it's not like we had cell phones then. Like, you weren't. Had no idea where we were. They were just like, be home by dinner.
Brie Bella
Correct. Right.
Unknown
Right.
Brie Bella
You can't do that nowadays. You can't be home by dinner. My rule was she would be like, be home when the street lights come on. And then I. Then the street lights come on, I'm like, oh, I gotta run home. It's no way we're doing that in today's America.
Unknown
It's not.
And two, do you think it's because we just know so much much because of social media.
But I do think we're different nowadays as well, too. I mean, I think we know on social media, but I think, you know, mental health is a big thing here.
And, like, it's.
Brie Bella
Yeah, don't go to school now and complain, and you'll get in trouble. Like, back in the day, like, if I went to school to complain, which I, you know, I can't even imagine My teachers being like, well let me talk to your mom. They'd be like, it's your fault. You know what I mean? Like it was no, it was no soft raising. You know, they were just like, what'd you do wrong?
Unknown
Exactly.
Brie Bella
Guys, they got more rice than we. So do we do. So you know how you're like, okay, yeah.
Nikki Garcia

True.
Well, because it is the holiday season.
Is there any fun traditions your mom did growing up?
Brie Bella
She did. Okay, so we. I remember this is. These are all great stories for me. You have to understand we would always go to my grandmother's house now, very much like how you guys live 10 minutes away. My grandmother lived maybe 4 minutes away on Christmas Eve. We would go to her house. I take all of my presents that were under the tree and I put them under her tree and all of the kids. My mom had a sister just like you guys are sisters. Sadly she packed away but that, yeah, but she, that it was just. She had kids and so all the kids would just meet there and we'd stay up till midnight. And we open our presents and the house would be a wreck because it was like. I mean, the more the merrier. I can even imagine what we did with all those things. But, you know, I grew up in a family where they wrapped everything. They were like lip balm wrapped. Everything was just wrapped. It was like. And it was fun because it was the idea of it. And then the next day, whatever your best gift was, as we got older, it ended up being clothes, because we love clothes as women, right? And as a little girl, we would put on our. Whatever it. Whatever our best gift was, whether it was the best toy, we'd take it outside and play with it and break it, or if it was the best outfit. You put it on and it's your Christmas out. Whatever it was, it was the best of all the things. And we would be able to show it off. And it was just a very fun rite of passage to meet with the other neighborhood kids and sit in the courtyard and talk about what you did. And my mother would always make strawberry shortcake. Those were the nice, light, innocent memories. And then we go to my. The women in my family, like my great grandmother who passed away. She was 101 years old. Like, they.
Unknown
Yeah.
Brie Bella
And my grandmother's still alive today. She's 94. But my. Go to my great grandmother's house, my grandmother's mother, and the entire family would come over, and it was a big family, like maybe 50 people in the house. And we would all sit around and eat Christmas dinner or Thanksgiving dinner. Those are our big. Our big to dos. And to me, yeah, those were some of the most innocent, best times of my life. Like, it just. It just changed everything about how you feel about yourself, about how you interact with your family. It was. We would do things and we'd have dance contests. Like, it was just really innocent, simple, fun. Or they would come in here, show me the latest dance. Now I can't dance. But we would just do all the dances that we thought we knew. And the family just sat around and laughed and talked about life and what was going on in the world. And I don't know how many. You know, we get so busy and caught up. I don't even know if we understand that these are all rites of passages that make you who you are. I literally used to read the church bulletin, the reason why I'm doing what I'm doing today as a broadcast journalist. When I was like, seven years old, my family had a church. And every Sunday I would get up and read the bulletin. And my. My Great grandmother would be sitting right in the front row and every time I pronounced a word wrong, she just, she'd correct me or it would be a chorus of, take your time, honey. That was such a huge accomplishment at such a young age. I wasn't afraid people, but they encouraged that. And these little moments just started to define who you were. When you start to think about it, and those are the best times in my life.
Unknown
I feel myself yearning a lot for those childhood memories. And it's always around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I feel like at Nana's house, I could still, like, smell the smells of like the outside and the pasta and the. Just her spaghetti sauce and like the best moments of my life.
Brie Bella
The holidays, obviously, as you get older, have so many different challenges because you think about friends. Like, I lost friends and obviously family members. But I always try to remember what the reason for this season is. And if we take away the idea of just making it gifts for me, I go to church. I always try to make sure that I always put God first. I'm always so grateful for everything that I have. I try to surround my people, surround myself with people who feel that way as well. And then, and then, of course, I think Christmas for me nowadays is so important to have that oral history of your family because people pass away and you forget. Like you forget your. Maybe your aunt or your cousin or the people. Like, I think of my aunt who passed away at a really young age. She was like 55. I remember every holiday she would cook gumbo, like those little things. And I try to pass that oral history down to my nieces and my nephews. I try to remind them who this person was. Because we remember. We really do have cellular memory. And when we get older, we remember these stories. Like that smell reminds me of how I grew up for Christmas or whatever we would eat. Or my grandmother, my grandmother used to always, without fail, even to this day, she was like, can you make me some liver and onions? I was like, well, one, I don't know how to cook, Granny, but I can buy you some. But it was like a real meal for her. And then on new, you know, on New Year's Day, you have beans like you make black eyed peas because it's supposed to be good luck. All of these traditions really, truly are. So you, you crave them when you get older, you miss them when you get older. And so I try to keep that oral history alive.
Unknown
I'm also.
That's really special.
Brie Bella
That is. I love that show.
Unknown
So it must be so cool for You. The fact that you are hosting the CNN New Year's Eve Live.
Brie Bella
Yes. It's a. Can I tell you the funny story about it? I don't know if you guys watch. Ever watched in years past and it was like, Don Lemon. Oh, for sure. I would, literally. Because I don't. You know, you stay at home for New Year's Eve. If you're partying, great. But like, I usually just stay at home. And Don. I would turn on Don and he had. I mean, when you talk about just bringing his full self to work, I would watch him and it would be hysterical because he was so. He's so ridiculous, but in the best of ways. And then he left, got fired, whatever, who knows? But they asked me to do it the following year. And I remember calling Don because he's a friend of mine. I'm like, I'm going to do what you normally do. I hope you're okay with that. People pleasing. Yep. And he says, why are you calling me? Have fun. Are you kidding me? Take this time. It's your moment. Have fun. Do it. Enjoy yourself. And this year, I think I'm a little more comfortable. You know, again, it was one of these environments where you. No. Practice. We didn't know practice. Like, you just show up and you talk, and you just got to figure it out. And you have to know what's going on. And it's not so much current affairs, but you have to be able to keep a conversation going. Things y'all do naturally. Right. And you have to develop chemistry with somebody really quickly.
Unknown
Yeah.
It's so hard. And then you're just like. Like second guessing yourself every time. Oh, what's gonna work, what's not. Especially get it.
I've been working, you know, with her for so long, and it's my twin sister.
Brie Bella
There's nothing you can do about. Especially if someone doesn't come into play. Play. Like, all I ever ask for is that, look, we may not be best of friends, but if you come, please come to play. Meaning don't. Don't go out of your way to sabotage this moment. Let's just have some fun together. It's New Year's Eve, right?
Unknown
Like, we're doing exactly.
Brie Bella
We're not. We're not breaking big news here. We're just on TV to have fun.
Unknown
Yeah.
Brie Bella
So I'm excited about that. I think that is one of, like, one of their Hallmark shows. And I think that everyone wants the opportunity at least. And, you know, you guys have done it, you know, sometime in your career you want to. You want to say that you did it. And it was a.
Unknown
That's a bucket list.
Brie Bella
It is, right? Just to say that you did it.
Unknown
Do you have your outfit already?
Brie Bella
All right, okay. So that is what I'm working on right now. That began in earnest two months ago. So I. I'm thinking like some sequence something or other, but then. But like a suit, like, sequence. Like, kind of like I'm looking for. I'm looking for all the fun. I am. I. It was. It was. So I have a stylist that I work with, and I. She's looking for me right now. So we'll see.
Nikki Garcia
See, when Brian and I travel, we have a huge checklist of the things that we love. And for the holidays, we are looking to travel with our family and extended family. A lot of cousins, let me tell you, because we aren't a one size fits all style of a family. And that's what I love about Airbnb. I get to pick the destination, the size of the home, and all the things that we really love, which we all know. Me, Chef Bri. I need to cook for everyone. And Brian loves to feel immersed into whatever town, city we're in. He wants to be part of the community. And these are all the reasons why Brian and I love to travel. We like to see different communities, different cultures, but we want to be completely immersed in it. And we also want to be able to cook their foods and have the whole family under one roof. Being able to end the night in a living room with the movie on and then having our own beds. And our biggest thing that we love about traveling, we've had some incredible host and hostess, and that makes the travel even better, which is exactly what I want to give to people traveling to my home. I want them to be able to cook a nice meal with their family, sleep in cozy bed, and I want to be that super host with five stars that you pick on Airbnb. So it's something to think about when you're traveling to a new place and you're leaving your place, it makes sense to Airbnb it. If you host while you're away, it's basically like you're making money while you're spending money. Kind of genius if you think about it. So don't leave money on the table the next time you're out of town. When you're away, your home could be an Airbnb. Your home might be worth more than you think. Find out how much@airbnb.com host and who knows maybe one day Brian and I will be in your kitchen now.

CT mobile.com I was gonna ask what's your favorite wine? Because we have a. We have a mutual friend. You guys know Tommy Crump. I was telling Tommy, she loves you, mommy. Oh, it's hard. You know, it's so crazy. I mean, I love our wine. It's our favorite. But I'm dabbling into like, I. It's Chablis for me right now.
Brie Bella
Oh, is it?
Unknown
Yeah.
I love my reds, but I don't know, maybe if my hormones are a little off.
Brie Bella
Yeah.
Unknown
But I've been craving white wine.
Brie Bella
Okay, so what's the red that you love like?
Unknown
Cabernet, Pinot Noir. Cabernet are always my favorite. I feel like Pinot Noir. I find myself more. Because I like the lighter red. Yeah, but. But yeah.
Brie Bella
What about people used to. And wines were really trendy. I. I think Opus is beautiful if you can have it. Lord. If it's around and available, get it all the time. I wouldn't. I do. I would not hold back because that kind. Kind of a good wine and conversation is invaluable. It's like traveling. It's only that it can. Traveling, I feel like is the only thing you spend money on that pays you back in real time.
Unknown
That's so true.
Brie Bella
In real time. Like I. When I travel, I learn so much about myself. I've come back more open about other people in the world. I have different food experiences, all of that. If you are. And it doesn't have to be super fancy. It could be I'm going to San Diego.
Unknown
It could be any right.
Brie Bella
But it's the only thing that allows you to, to really learn in real time.
Unknown
Well, Miraval, I've always was obsessed. You like them but they. But I don't know if they've changed.
Brie Bella
But who's have you? I'll try y'alls. I want to try y'all.
Unknown
And our rose is amazing.
We're going to send you. We're going to love her.
Yeah, we're going to. We'll send you a bunch of our wife.
Brie Bella
I love that. Thank you. And I'm going to have it all my parties in because you know I'm going to be like. So I know the twins and they sent me this personally.
Unknown
Before we let you go, we always our episodes a little inspiration, affirmation. What would you like, what motto or quote would you like to leave our listeners with?
Brie Bella
Gosh, there's so many things I would say, especially right now. How we live. The busyness of our schedules, the demand on our time and then the demand in our minds because we're constantly thinking we can't sleep. And I'm not speaking for everyone, but I think a lot of people feel this way, male or female. Give yourself some grace. Yeah, I just feel like, just give yourself some grace. You're a great mom. You're a great mom. You are a great sister. You're a great sister. You guys are wonderful humans. Give yourself some grace for not always being perfect and because society will make you feel like you should be. Give yourself some grace for making mistakes. Because I think that builds character and people want to know that you're not flawless. Because on the outside looking in, I just think about the life that I live and people like you, you know this person, you do this, you do. And I'm all like, I gotta like, trust me, I can beat myself up and there's no need. And I just think that in a world that needs love and kindness, we have to start ourselves first. Just give yourself some grace.
Unknown
It's so true. It is so what we need to take with us every day.
Yeah. And it's, it's one of those things you have to like write on your mirror so you can remind yourself as you start your day, every day. Because it's like, it's needed.
I feel like especially being in this world with social media or even the media people amongst their communities, like, we like let ourselves, like we hold onto judgment of what people make of us. And it's like, we just gotta let that go, give ourselves choice and go, no, I'm. I'm allowed to mess up or I'm.
Allowed to do this, and if you.
Don'T like it, well, that's fine.
Brie Bella
But even on camera, you guys hosting, you get a thousand great comments. And you got one comment from soccer mom 22 who says she didn't like your hair today. And you're like, well, I guess my hair was bad today.
Unknown
No. And it's so true. It's crazy.
Brie Bella
Yeah. So I. And I'm saying all of these things because last night I did a spot and it was so hard, and I was. And I was. I was working at cnn and I went on air, and I kind of got into it with one of the hosts, but not really one of the other analysts. And I was just very affirm. I was firm. I'm firm. I stood my ground.
Unknown
Yeah.
Brie Bella
And I. And I think it's hard to see women in society be firm and stand their ground. And then I. On the whole way home, I'm like, was I too mean? Was I too tough? Was I this? Was I that? You know, that man's not thinking twice at all about what happened. I'm. I'm holding onto it. I'm creating scenarios. I'm. I'm getting new jobs. I'm not getting a job. Like, I'm making all of these conjectures. And I was just like. I woke up, I was like, give yourself some grace. You did nothing wrong. Like, you. You are a good human. You want to see the world be a better place. You don't. You don't deliberately try to sabotage or hurt people. I don't even know what that looks like. And I find that, again, to my point, I don't give myself enough grace because far more good that we put in the world than we put in bad.
Unknown
Amen.
Honest.
Brie Bella
So true.
Unknown
Yeah. Well, thank you so much for coming on the show. This was so special.
Brie Bella
I am so glad I came.
Unknown
