Nikki & Brie take over the SiriusXM Nashville studios with country rule-breaker Filmore! From his Missouri roots and choir-kid beginnings to blending country, rock, hip-hop, and pop, Filmore opens up about creating music without staying in one lane, writing from real life, and why being “anything but typical” has shaped his career. He also talks working with Pitbull, life as a dad, touring, his album Atypical, and the wild ride of becoming the first country artist signed to Mr. 305 Records. Plus, Nikki, Brie, and Filmore play “Country Lyrics or Country Spirits?” and things get hilariously unhinged. Press play!

All right, everyone, welcome back to the Nikki and Bri show. And as you can see, we are taking over Nashville SiriusXM Studios. We're so excited to be here for the first time and today we have an incredible guest.
Nicki
Oh, we do.
Bri
We're joined by an artist who's completely shaking up the country music scene in the best way possible. He's built a career by blending country, rock, hip hop and pop to a sound that's entirely his own. And it's obviously clearly working from touring with superstars like Blake Shelton to becoming the first country artist signed to Pipple's Mr. 305 Records.
Nicki
He.
Bri
He is proving there are no rules when it comes to making great music. Everyone, please welcome Fillmore to the Nicki and Marie show.
Fillmore
Thank you.
Nicki
Thank you so much for coming.
Fillmore
Yes, I appreciate it. I love that little intro. Just like, man, I feel like all warm and fuzzy.
Nicki
Good. I mean, but do you, does it make you. When you hear that, you're like, I've done a lot.
Fillmore
No, it is. No, I, I. The Blake Shelton, you know, you said Blake Shelton. I'm like, I still like haven't hung with them. So I just like any shout out to him. That's great because yeah, even though we've toured together and I've been on shows with him and he's like weirdly a part of a lot of the things that have. He was always there when the Pitbull thing kind of happened. So when you just like. Because there's a lot of people open for it. But he said, Blake, I'm sitting here like in my Head. I'm like, blake, wherever you are, man, like, let's hang out, Mom.
Nicki
Blake, you got to play him in his bargain.
Fillmore
Yeah, he's the man. Like, I. You know, I'm pumped one day to actually hang. You know what I'm saying? Hang. Hang.
Bri
Yeah.
Nicki
Well, you know what it is? You need to tell him. Should play at Old Red.
Fillmore
I know. Well, I have. I've done all the Spotify house stuff there and everything during CMA Fest, and, yeah, done all the. You know.
Nicki
So you're from Missouri, and does that. I need to know. When did music start for you? Was it, like, you came across the guitar, or you started to realize you had a good voice? Like, when did it all start for you?
Fillmore
I mean, it was always, like, around in the house. No one in my family had done music. I think one of my uncles in Columbia, South America, was a musician, but that's about it. So, yeah, it was like, I just started, you know, singing, I guess, because in fifth grade, they offered a second recess if you joined the choir.
Bri
Really?
Guest or Additional Voice
Really?
Fillmore
Yeah. That's actually true.
Nicki
All right.
Bri
Missouri. Love it.
Nicki
So I was like, what is it? You do choir and then you get to go play.
Fillmore
You get, like, a bonus recess, so you get to, like, skip, like. So I'd get, like, two recesses. So I was like, yeah, I'll be in choir.
Nicki
Oh, my gosh.
Fillmore
Wow. Yeah, I think we, like, learned violin in, like, fourth grade. They had, like, a thing that, like, went. You know, everyone's on the recorder. Like, remember all that stuff when we were younger?
Bri
Oh, my gosh.
Fillmore
So, yeah, I just, like, always remember, like, I was like, yeah, I'll be in choir, like, an extra recess. Hell, yeah. But, yeah, that's. And then I was always in choir since then, really? And then it just was, like, a thing that was, like, I enjoyed, but it wasn't like. Like, wasn't crazy, like, and I was, like, mostly a jock my whole life and thought I was going to play baseball my whole life, and then took a music scholarship to college and then moved to Nashville. The rest was history. So.
Nicki
Wow, that's cool. And was there any musician you were inspired? Inspired by that? You're like, oh, I could do that.
Fillmore
I think, like, the inspiration throughout my life, like, kind of continually changes, Obviously, especially with the new album. Everything is atypical. There's a lot of genres that I've combined into my music over time. I've pushed a lot of barriers in Nashville over the course of time of being here as well. I mean, I'm signed to Pitbull, so you kind of get the idea. But still redneck from Missouri. Okay, but. But no, I feel like. I feel like the. You know, let's just say in high school, I was, like, very, very much obsessed with Rascal Flats, and I just loved all the harmonies. There's the choir thing, you know, the harmonies and the trio. I even tried to create a trio when I moved to Nashville called Fillmore, but we're not going to go into that. And then. Yeah, no, and then, like, you know, there was, you know, Keith Urban. There was, like, certain, like, kind of people that are pushing, like, the pop tendencies into country that I really loved in that early 2000s that, like, definitely inspiring. So those were two people that definitely inspired me. But then everything. John Cougar Mellencamp, and, you know, there's. There's so much other inspirations. I could go on and on and on, but, you know, gosh, I love that.
Bri
And so having all those inspirations and then being in music, at what point did you realize that you don't want to fit into one box?
Fillmore
Musically, I think it was kind of. It was always that. I feel like I was kind of, you know, even, like, when Sam Hunt started doing his thing and, you know, I would ride the bus with them and go out on the road with them, and my stuff was just kind of starting. But, like, Sam was a friend, and I got attached to a lot of artists that were kind of pushing that mold in country. I think everything before that, I was kind of testing the waters. But as I found myself and you watched Sam push the barriers on that, I just felt more able to be myself and chase that a little bit because he had opened up that lane. Blew it wide open at the time. And so, yeah, I just feel like there's, you know, that's why I kind of. I love a slow. You know, I love a sad slow song that makes me happy. But I have a lot of upbeat songs. Yeah, I know. And I have a lot of, you know, high energy show songs, and they're all personal stories. A lot of songs about girls. And then I just take each song and I kind of just like what I think is the best mold for that song that, like, speaks to me. And then I. We put it in those elements in the song, and that's it, like, unapologetically, like, who I am. And I feel like that can really, to a lot of people, because we all grew up with a lot of
Bri
music, you know, and so, like, your journey in music, like, would People ever tell you like, hey, you sound too different or this isn't what we want?
Fillmore
Yeah, but I. I love that.
Nicki
No, that.
Bri
I love that. And like, what would make you push through? Would you be like, f. That I'll show you.
Fillmore
I mean, I had a man bun in country music for 10 years. I mean, I. I mean, I feel like there's just no rules at this point. Yeah, they're like, you're not gonna go to radio with man. But I'm like, cool. I don't, I don't care. Tell me what. No, you are. I'm like, it's different. Like, I don't, I don't care. Like, honestly, I just have this haircut. You. You just throw it up. Like, you know, it's like actually easier than getting your haircut all the time.
Bri
Right? I agree.
Fillmore
Like, it was like literally out of ease. And like, I'm like, I don't know. And then it's like, I'm like, oh, you're that guy. I'm like, cool.
Nicki
Like, I get jealous of the man bun because my buns would be so big and not so cute. And when I'd see the man bun, I'd be like, dang it. They always make it look cool.
Bri
Yeah, man buns are cool.
Nicki
Like, why does my bun look cool?
Fillmore
Probably washed your hair more than I did. But it's just like, you know, I feel like, I don't know, it was, it was a phase. But at the same time, like, I just feel like that atypical vibe has just kind of been who I am. And like, I. I don't mind people having an opinion either way. And like, you're allowed to and you can be mad and not like my stuff, like, it's okay. Honestly, the fact that you've taken that much time to care matters to me.
Nicki

Now, when you were talking about songwriting and talking about your experiences. So do you. Do you write all your music?
Fillmore
Yeah, write all my music. So.
Nicki
Wow, that's. How's that process work?
Fillmore
I mean, it's such a normal thing now for me. You know, sometimes, like, for example, like, we all went out the other night and when you're sitting around the table, I'm constantly just like, you know, we're drinking, hanging out. Like, I'll listen to different things. I'm like, okay, that. That sounds like a title.
Bri
Yeah.
Fillmore
Someone just randomly said that I'm on my phone. I'm not texting, you know, Terrible texter.
Bri
Me too, by the way.
Fillmore
I'm trying to live in the moment. Like.
Nicki
Yeah, yeah, I love that.
Fillmore
So if I grab my phone out, I'm like typing titles down usually. And then when I get in the writer's room with either other people or myself or I have time sitting in front of the guitar, I open those notes and I have titles and ideas. And then I just try to like, piece that together like a puzzle a bit. Yeah, sometimes it's a very emotional thing for me, like where it's like, this is a personal thing sometimes. It's like, I think this is a great song. Sometimes I think this is something for somebody else. Maybe for me. I don't know. Kind of either way. But the process kind of varies in a lot of ways, but can start with the title, can start with a feeling, can start with an idea. I just heard this melody. There's a voice memo. You know, it's just kind of constant. You're constantly writing. But, yeah, I just feel like when I write so much for myself and for other people. I'm a songwriter with Sony. I feel like, you know, when it comes to picking an album, it's hard for me not to, like, pick my babies.
Bri
Totally. For sure. Oh, my gosh. I bet. What would you say your greatest muse has been for writing?
Fillmore
My exes. And then heartbreak always helps.
Nicki
You sound like Taylor Swift. It's crazy.
Bri
Well, I even think of my poetry that I've written. Like, I started writing poetry and it's like, for me, but since I think I started when I was in, like, third grade or something. And I've, like, kept stuff so I could tell, like, when I'd be angry at my dad or whatever, I'd, like, write a poem about it. Like, I was so mad, but it helped. But it's weird because pain and heartache and all that, like, you get some of your greatest work, you know, That's.
Fillmore
I love that.
Nicki
Yeah.
Fillmore
And poetry. I feel like we all. I write stuff, like, I write a bunch of notes down. I don't do that as much anymore. Like, I should, but I feel like they've just kind of all turned into songs.
Bri
But yeah.
Fillmore
Yeah.
Bri
Well, you're a dad of two. Under two, so I get why.
Nicki
Well, that's what I was gonna say. Now that you're a dad, does songwriting change a little bit? Or is. Does it make you. I don't know. I feel like when I had kids, I got softer.
Bri
Wanna write more lullabies?
Nicki
Yeah.
Bri
You never know.
Fillmore
I've had a lot of ideas about, like, lullabies and things. And, like, I realize how many songs. Like, I know all the words, too, weirdly. Like, I don't know why. I know every word to bear necessities. But, like, I'm like, I'll sing all the parts in between. Like, I'm like, if you look under the rocks and plants and take a glance at the pantsy ants, it's, like, weird, dude. I'm, like, singing to my kid. I'm like, when did I learn all these lyrics? Like, literally haven't sang this in, like, I don't know when I even watched that movie.
Nicki
Like, but that's wild, because when I had my first and my grandmother was in the room and I was rocking her to sleep, I just. I thought I made up this song, this Go to Sleep song. My grandmother looked at me and goes, your Grandfather always sang that, too, as a baby.
Bri
And I go, he did this crazy stuff that gets into the room and then you like.
Nicki
And she couldn't believe I knew.
Fillmore
It's been 20. It's been so many years.
Nicki
And it's like.
Bri
Like almost decades, right?
Fillmore
Yes.
Bri
That's how I am with mama's little baby. Like, shortening, shortening. Wait, I started to sing that to Matteo, and I'm like, wait, wasn't that a cartoon I watched when I was, like, five?
Nicki
Isn't that whale? Right, the whale. Remember, we'd always watch it with Nana or something?
Fillmore
Yeah.
Nicki
That's crazy.
Fillmore
No, it's amazing. I feel like. I feel like I realized that, like, that is being pulled out of me. So, yeah, I think the song. I think music changes now a little bit, but with the album I just put out, that's, like, accumulation of songs I love for, like, 10 years. And then now the things I've been working on in, like, the last, like, year, specifically, there are a lot of dad songs, and there are a lot of things that are, like, kind of in that vein, because I'm, like, living it right now. Yeah, but sometimes music takes a while to get out, and there's so many. You guys get it. There's, like, so many things that happen with releases and all that stuff, like this industry and the way things change so in timing, you know? So we will get some dad songs and maybe some lullabies or I want to do some Pitbull lullabies. That'd be fun.
Nicki
Oh, my gosh.
Bri
Yes. So what is the chemistry like between you and Pitbull?
Fillmore
He's the homie. He's the man. He's exactly who you guys see online. He is. He's a mentor, a friend, business partner. He is. Yeah. It's. It's crazy. I'm about to join him on tour, and we write a lot of music together, which is why I kind of brought that up. And we've been working on a lot of songs together, and there's some cool stuff coming out in the future, some more songs with him, and I. Which I can actively say right now I'm very pumped about. And, yeah, I was, like, thinking about, like, I saw one of those toonie boxes. You seen those?
Nicki
Oh, yeah. Where you put the character. Oh, no. I like that for my kids. There is. There is.
Fillmore
There's a Snoop Dogg one.
Bri
No.
Fillmore
Yeah.
Nicki
Gosh.
Fillmore
And so I got the Snoop Dogg one my kids likes, and I'm like, this is sick. I was like, we need a Pitbull one.
Bri
Yeah. Well, how about you and Pitbull, like a duo? Yeah, like. Like that'd be good.
Fillmore
I think we'll get there on mine, but I'm like, yo, we need some Pitbull storytelling.
Bri
Yeah, it actually be.
Nicki
That would be incredible to have Snoop. Snoop Dogg. That's hilarious. Well, your guys' song. Yeehaw.
Fillmore
Yes.
Nicki
So good. I mean, that is a hit. But, you know, when Pitbull played at Bottle Rock in Napa Valley, this was like, I don't know, two or three years ago. There wasn't a lot. There was people there. But then Pitbull's up next, and I swear it went from nowhere, out of nowhere. I'm like, where did everyone just come from? It was like a herd came in. I was like, holy. And it was all ages.
Fillmore
Yeah. It's amazing.
Nicki
It's crazy to see like, young people, middle age, older, all rocking out to him.
Fillmore
I know, it's.
Nicki
I couldn't believe it.
Fillmore
Diaper to diaper. You know what I'm saying?
Nicki
Diaper to diaper.
Bri
I think because of, like, where Bri and I are at in our era, I like seeing other people who evolutionized over time and like, it. It doesn't matter their age. Like, they know how to stay so current. I mean, him way more than us. Because even to see like the Gen Z still do, all his Trends, like on TikTok and everything, like, it's. He's like, so just never. It's ageless. It's like crazy. That's hard to do too.
Fillmore
It's. I mean, it's like impossible. It's so inspiring. You don't see that. I mean, yeah, it's. And that's. That's another thing. Like, you know, I'm a country artist and it, you know, how my path led to him is also crazy. But like, when I had the opportunity, it just made so much sense because of that. Right. It was like, I don't know this person really yet, but I'm having an opportunity to work with this guy. Like, you don't say no to that because it's like. And then. And then you get to know him. You're like, wow, this is like the best decision I ever made. And it's been life changing for me and my family and just the things I've learned from him. And he truly is a motivator and inspiring. And I try to take that and put that into my music now. So I feel like I'm seeing that affect my music a little bit. Even writing stuff with him, for him and myself, I feel like that's now leaking over into like, stuff with my music. And I think that that can be really cool and what's happening in the world now and how music is becoming even more collaborative in so many genres.
Bri
Oh my gosh. Totally.
Fillmore
But yeah, he is very inspiring and it is crazy to see someone that had such an amazing career like that. And that is, that's what we all want, you know. Right. So anything I can, you know, take little nuggets to be more timeless in my life. That's what I'm trying to do.
Bri
So while you're doing it. That's for sure. And you know, when you mentioned a little bit about your album, Atypical, when people listen to it, what do you like, hope people get from that, like your album?
Fillmore
I, I, honestly, I, I, I hope they find like maybe surprise or like excitement on something that maybe they hadn't heard before. Yeah, I feel like, I hope you love the whole thing, but I think there's something for everyone. So if you don't like a certain one, like, I hope you keep listening until you find like your jam. But yeah, but yeah, I don't know, I just feel, I feel like there's something, there's. If you're looking for a sad song, I got you. If you're looking for, you know, a happy, upbeat song, I got you. You want to go fishing for a second? I got you. You know, like, you want to party in the country. I got you. You want, you want be at a club with Pitbull and sing about. Yeehaw. I got you. Yeah, there's, you know, I just, I don't really know if there's a specific thing I want you to find, but I hope you have an atypical experience, whatever that looks like.
Nicki
Yeah, but I love that, you know, I, My favorite thing to do when I'm driving is listen to new albums and I just like to listen to the whole thing and like, really feel like, what song? Because I'm not always the one that where you'll see the little star. Like, this is the hit. Like, check it out. I like to hear everything else before the hit.
Bri
Yeah.
Nicki
Because I'm always the one who, like, I don't know. I always like the one that knows.
Bri
You find the hidden gem.
Nicki
You know what I mean?
Bri
I knew that was going to be the big one. Yeah, I love that.
Fillmore
No, I feel like people are getting more towards that again. I feel like the es and flows in times, people are getting less singles and want to hear more about the album.
Bri
So oh for sure, Big Time.

Start your vacation@Visit denver.com Discover. Yeah, when you guys are in the studio and you guys are recording songs, are is everyone at like the same time? They're like, that's it. That's the hit. You guys get all like, does everyone feel it at the same time?
Fillmore
I Yes, I guess it depends on like all right, did the producer write it? Because you know, now he's like really etching for that song. Oh yeah, you know, or like people have angles for sure. But no, I feel like you kind of, you can kind of know I have trouble kind of making that decision because I feel like lately and you know, with the virility of online, you really know and don't know, it's kind of tough. So throwing more stuff out there and having a 21 song album I think just gives me more chance to have something that will stick out or people can gravitate to that really like raises its hand. And I'm seeing that in some ways too, like organically, which is great. And that's the whole point. And then that that song, because my favorite immediately because they're all my favorite.
Bri
But, yeah, gosh, I bet that. No, I'd be attached to everything.
Nicki
Do you make music videos at all?
Fillmore
Yeah, yeah, I have a bunch of music videos. Yeah.
Nicki
Where you can find them? YouTube.
Fillmore
YouTube. On all platforms. No, they're starting. Yeah. There's a whole push. There's music videos, I think. Yeah, they're definitely.
Nicki
You were the first independent artist to debut on Spotify, right?
Fillmore
It was. I was the first to be the COVID of Hot Country. I was. Yeah, it was. I had three songs on Hot country at one time and no record label, no nothing. And it's incredible. Kind of built up that stuff back in 2018, 2019.
Bri
That had to be like, whoa.
Fillmore
Yeah. So it was. It was a crazy ride to get there, but I was always like. I was always like, you know. You know, you guys are kind of getting the vibe. I was kind of just like, I don't care, really. I just like what you fully think. I kind of want to just be me 100 no matter what. And that's how I built my career. And I never fell into a mold of I need to be more country, I need to do this, or whatever. And so in that process, you kind of have to prove it on your own and show the world that, like, yo, like, this does work and people can be this type of artist. And then record labels came knocking and the whole thing happened. But Spotify, Shout out, and everyone else that was a part of that just really took a chance on an independent artist. And I, you know, hope everyone out there that is an artist or if you're watching this and you are independent, like, stay strong.
Bri
Yes.
Fillmore
Stay strong.
Bri
And that break happens.
Fillmore
It does. Yeah. Just outwork everybody. I promise it works out.
Bri
Yes. Well, you want to play a game with us?
Fillmore
Yes, I'd love to.
Bri
Awesome.
Nicki
Okay, good. We love games.
Bri
Yep. So this is called country lyrics or Country Spirits. So we're going to play a quick game of country lyrics. Country Spirits. We've got a few lines that will throw your way, and you'll have to tell us if it's a real country song lyric or if it's just a drunk text from an example.
Fillmore
Dang it.
Bri
I know. Okay, first one. Body like a back road Driving with my eyes closed.
Fillmore
Song lyrics. Body like a back road. Sam Hunt.
Bri
Yep. Good job.
Nicki
You know it. All right, Bri. Okay, number two. You know I love it when your lips get to moving.
Fillmore
Drunk text.
Nicki
Nope. Luke Bryan played again.
Fillmore
No way. Was that, like, second verse? What are we doing here?
Bri
Yeah, seriously, Ray. Okay, next. You Were honestly my favorite notification.
Fillmore
That's got to be a drunk text.
Bri
Yeah.
Guest or Additional Voice
Yes.
Fillmore
Okay.
Nicki
Drunk text. Like, can I get drunk?
Bri
I need a drunk text like that. I mean, like.
Nicki
But who said. I mean, there's nothing sexy about that.
Bri
I know. Notifications.
Fillmore
You're my favorite notification.
Nicki
If, like, my ex sent me that, I'd be like, gross.
Bri
I feel like that'd be like, phone's
Fillmore
been taken over by AI.
Bri
Yeah, that would be like a baby boomer. Like, drunk text. Get drunk on their wine in their 60s, and they're like, so no. Yeah.
Fillmore
Thank you for your email notification.
Bri
Yeah, that's how they like, like, refer to, like, DMS and stuff. So your notification, I'd be like, you're my favorite.
Fillmore
You have your notifications turned on? What?
Bri
Yeah, I don't ever turn on notifications, like, on anything.
Nicki
Next one, if it's meant to be, it'll be

Florida, July, and BB Rex. Meant to be.
Nicki
Good.
Bri
There you go. I would be terrible at this game.
Nicki
Me too.
Bri
You really were both my piece and my problem.
Fillmore
Feels like it could be a song lyric, but I'm gonna go with drunk text.
Bri
Yeah, you're crushing Luke. Brian's gonna be pissed. But other than that, you're crushing Deep line in there.
Fillmore
I like.
Bri
You know, I love that song too, by the way.
Nicki
But you. Can we just go really quick back to that Luke Bryan one when he's. You know. I love it when your lips get to moving. It is interesting because I'm thinking moving where?
Bri
But like. But like, he says it like moving. Like you're saying like moving, but he's, like, moving like. I don't know.
Fillmore
I don't think the move in, you know, the G would have helped me in this situation, but I appreciate it.
Nicki
Yeah, but there is a G in the lyric.
Fillmore
I mean, that's tough. That's hard.
Nicki
So, you know, I mean, he might say moving, but I don't know.
Bri
It is tough, but. But I mean, I like when their lips get to moving.
Nicki
Yeah, right. Okay, next one. Baby blue ain't your color.
Fillmore
Keith Urban blue, written by Stephen Lee Olsen.
Bri
Yeah. Good job. I'm hooked on the way you light up every room.
Fillmore
Hooked on the way you light up every room. These ones are tough because you kind of are making them sound like song lyrics.
Bri
Oh, for sure.
Fillmore
It's not. It's not in the song Hooked by Dylan Scott. I don't think. It's not a chorus on there. It would be like a verse line. Another. So I'm gonna go with drunk text.
Bri
Dan and Shay speechless.
Fillmore
God. You guys gotta give me these second verse lines.
Bri
I know.
Fillmore
I know that's not even in the
Nicki
chorus, but it's like super impressive.
Bri
You've got. I mean, you've done. Yeah.
Nicki
All right.
Fillmore
Sorry. Danny,
Nicki
you are my favorite bad idea.
Fillmore
Sounds like it. Definitely a song lyric. Sounds like a Chase Rice lyric. Favorite bad idea.
Bri
I feel like it sounds like maybe this is just me, but like a Taylor Swift one.
Fillmore
Okay. I'm gonna go drunk. Tax.
Bri
Okay.
Nicki
And you're right.
Fillmore
Yeah, I was like. Just gave me a sounds like thing. I'm gonna give it to me.
Bri
Whoops. Maybe I did. Good job.
Nicki
Nicketing so you're headed to tour today?
Fillmore
Yeah, I'm headed out of town today. I'm headed to Charleston and then do a little performance tomorrow hopefully. And then I'll be joining the. The Pitbull tour this weekend, so.
Nicki
Oh, my gosh. And then how long are you guys on tour for?
Fillmore
I'll be with him on select dates through May and then also in September as well. So in the gap between that they go to Europe and I'll be doing all the festivals here in the US and everything like that. So trying to, you know, dance between, you know, getting the opportunity to perform with him on tour.
Bri
Nice With.
Fillmore
For his fan base and then. Which is. I've done a few times in the past so far, which has been amazing. And seeing the world with them and. And, you know, it's. It's been great. And then now also balancing that between, you know, country festivals and. And my stuff. And so it's exciting and it's cool to kind of go in between these worlds and hopefully try to bring them in one. One place.
Nicki
I love that.
Bri
Two obl.
Fillmore
Espito.
Bri
Same.
Nicki
We can tell the way you said that. Okay.
Bri
Hater. At least I tried throw an accent on it. At least I thought I did kind of have an accent.
Nicki
Is Colombian.
Fillmore
Yeah. By the way. Loves you guys. She was trying to, like, come with me here today.
Bri
Almost center, too.
Nicki
You should have brought her.
Fillmore
I'm so sorry. You'll have to meet her. She's like, literally knows everything about you guys. She was. Yeah. She is so pumped. I'm here with you guys.
Nicki
Oh, my gosh.
Fillmore
And she speaks four languages and she is. She moved to the States when she was young and she's from Columbia, South America. So I did grow up with it. I've lost a little bit, but I do, you know, I do some stuff in Spanish as well. And you know, as. As Pitt says it's my birthright, and, you know. Sweet. I'm just doing a little bit of everything with it. But I would love my. My accent's not the best, so we're just gonna get off that.
Bri
I feel. Yeah. I mean, I feel like some of mine. Arroyo.
Fillmore
Hey, there you go.
Nicki
Hard one, too.
Bri
Well, like, to show I could roll my R. Why one? I always do that with my son, and he, like, laughs so hard. He, like, can't believe I could roll my R's. I'm like, yeah, I feel so proud.
Fillmore
My son's moving them lips.
Bri
Moving them.
Fillmore
Well, more actually, like, when abuelita comes over, like, my. My son's like. She'll speak only in Spanish to him, so he's like. He goes back. Yeah, it's really cool to see. Yeah.
Bri
Don't you.
Nicki
That's like, our dad does that with our kids. And I'm like, why don't you do that with us?
Bri
Yeah, thanks.
Nicki
You know, I'm like.
Fillmore
It started with me, and my parents got divorced when I was really young, so I think that's where I kind of. That's. Yeah, I know I started out bilingual, but, you know, that kind of whole thing happened. But crazy child.
Nicki
We're gonna see if we all start busting out lullabies. Maybe we just start busting out Spanish one day.
Fillmore
That's what I'm saying.
Bri
We all got to work on them.
Fillmore
Hit us up, you know?
Bri
You know?
Fillmore
Yeah, we can show you that we can get there.
Nicki
Every time I drink tequila, I'm always hoping I. What is it?
Bri
Rosetta Stone.
Fillmore
Rosetta Stone.
Bri
Just need some Rosetta Stone.
Nicki
I tried Rosetta Stone.
Fillmore
No, we're going duolingo. We're gonna get this.
Bri
Oh, is that.
Fillmore
Yeah, perfect.
Bri
I'm down.
Fillmore
They're gonna. They're gonna. They're gonna see this, and they're like, yeah, we got duolingo.
Bri
Okay, we're gonna do that.
Nicki
Okay, we're doing that.
Bri
I'm down.
Fillmore
I'm in.
Bri
I need it.
Nicki
It's literally been on, I would kind of say my bucket list for, like, 20 years.
Bri
Yeah.
Nicki
Like, it's more like fluent in Spanish.
Fillmore
Yeah. And I feel like you don't use it. You lose it, and I. You know, but at the same time, I'm so much around it. I have it there, and there are times where, like, I will, like, speak it for a second and, like, go back and forth. I just feel like. It just feels like. All right. So my brain thinks in English and then translates into Spanish. Now my mom thinks in Spanish, and it translates to English. And I feel like if I had the other way, it would just be obviously easier. But for me, what's easy for me is when someone talks to me, speaks me in Spanish, I understand. Understand 90% of what they're saying. I just answer in English because I can answer a lot faster.
Bri
Yeah.
Fillmore
But just, you know, duolingo can help me fix my mind.
Nicki
Okay.
Bri
That's what we need. Okay, then we're doing it.
Nicki
Because sometimes I'll feel like I will speak more Spanish in my head.
Fillmore
Yeah.
Nicki
And I don't think I have the confidence to say it out.
Bri
It's just the confidence, and then it's the confidence part. Right. But see, lesson learned. I had confidence doing it, and then you tore me down.
Fillmore
Oh, that's unpacking.
Bri
Oh, yeah.
Nicki
Dua lipa or who is it?
Fillmore
Duolingo.
Nicki
Dura lingo. Yeah.
Bri
What? Dua lipa. You thought he meant Dua Lipa was gonna come and teach us.
Fillmore
We were looking for a Spanish tuber.
Bri
He's like, oh, wow. He was gonna get dua lipa to teach us.
Nicki
I didn't. I. It's funny, when I said that out loud, you know me, I make up words.
Bri
But should we tear you down like, you did me do it?
Nicki
I barely did.
Bri
Awesome.
Nicki
I said you didn't have an accent, but you seem really confident to come back.
Bri
But how great, right? No, how great that confidence.
Fillmore
It is the confidence thing, for sure.
Nicki
No, no, it is. Because every time I say it in my head, I'm like, just say it out loud. But I just. And then I miss the moment.
Fillmore
I know. I'm just gonna go immersion.
Nicki
But when we all learn, we can all speak to each other. Okay. Voice note each other.
Bri
Yeah.
Fillmore
Yeah. So.
Nicki
And our role can be we can only talk Spanish to each other.
Fillmore
Perfect. It'll be Dua Lipa teaching us with Du lingo teaching us Spanish.
Nicki
And then you and I will side text and talk about Nick.
Fillmore
Yeah. Perfect.
Bri
It.
Nicki
Yeah. I feel like, oh, my gosh. Did you hear how she said it?
Bri
I honestly feel like if we watch who's the. The girl cartoon who speaks Spanish with the dog. Yes. Why don't we just watch that?
Nicki
But that's, like, basic stuff we know.
Bri
Because she'll say, like, do you know basic?
Nicki
Or like, you know, like.
Bri
But then she'll go in full. Maybe not. Did you ever see the SNL skit of them doing Dora the Explorer?
Fillmore
I need to watch it.
Nicki
Oh, my gosh. It was so good.
Bri
It was insane.
Nicki
But they made cartoon. So it was very realistic like, of watching, like.
Bri
Oh, exactly.
Nicki
So just think like it was so good. When I can do something that is environmentally smart, I am all about it. One thing I believe is that fashion has been hurting our planet. So I'm always trying to be mindful when I go shopping. But I have come across one of the greatest companies. They're called Nuuly and you could literally rent clothes.
Bri
I think so many of us have that feeling of just wanting a new wardrobe. So I think Nuuly, which is a subscription clothing rental service, is genius.
Nicki
It is. For just $98 a month, you can rent for whatever you have going on.
Bri
Access thousands of styles from hundreds of brands with inclusive sizing and the option
Nicki

Nicki
That's N-U-U-L-Y.com code twins for 28 off your first month.
Bri
Newly subscription clothing rental. Change your clothes.
Nicki
When Nikki and I wanted to start podcasting, we weren't so sure if it would work for us. I mean, we just came off reality television and we're used to everyone seeing us live our lives, but we're like, can we really talk about living our lives? I mean, you know how it is. Starting something new isn't just hard, it can be terrifying.
Bri
Especially when you're starting a business. That's why it helps to have a partner like Shopify by your side.
Nicki
Shopify is the commerce platform behind millions of businesses around the world and 10% of all E commerce in the U. S From household names like death wish coffee and magic spoon to brands just getting started.
Bri
Get started with your own design studio.
Nicki
With hundreds of ready to use templates, Shopify helps you build a beautiful online store that matches your brand style.
Bri
You know, some of my favorite features with Shopify is actually seeing the numbers come in the sales, where your customers are from. There's so much incredible data that comes in on Shopify about your company and it honestly gives you such a great opportunity to grow and to really know your consumer for sure.
Nicki
It's time to turn those what ifs into sales with Shopify today.

Bri
Okay, so before we let you go, we always like to end our episodes with a little bit of inspiration, affirmation. So is there a quote or a mantra you could leave us with we don't need? Sure.
Fillmore
I mean, honestly, you know, my, my. We've kind of talked about it. My whole mantra is anything but typical. I don't think it's being different for being different. Like, that's not for. You know, I'm not trying to be different, just to be different. Yeah. But I feel like there's a lot of value in just being who you are. And I feel like that sometimes isn't the most typical thing. I think you find who you are by being a little corgi. A little different.
Bri
Yeah.
Fillmore
And we all have different backgrounds. We all have. Look at. We all have Spanish in our background. We all have different things that, you know, a lot of people don't realize. There's so many layers to people. And I feel like everyone is atypical in a lot of ways. And that is my mantra. And that's. That's why I named this album that. And that's.
Bri
I love that.
Fillmore
I feel like that's kind of how it all got there.
Nicki
I love that.
Bri
And, you know, everyone who's listening to that, please share that with your kids. Because I feel like kids really need to hear that too. Because they bully kids for being different or not for being typical. And I feel like you see that more than ever. And it's like, parents need to give their kid that mantra as well and teach them those things.
Nicki
Yeah.
Bri
Because I love that everybody. Everyone's different. God made us all in so many different ways. And we have to appreciate those things and love those things and, like, find the special things in everyone instead of, like, put people down on, you know, that little bit of. Sure. Makes them different. Because usually that little bit of thing that makes them different is what makes them really cool.
Fillmore
I think that's why we're all here right now.
Bri
Right?
Fillmore
We're sitting here. It's like.
Nicki
Yeah.
Fillmore
And it's taking those no's and turning them DS's and just honestly just believing.
Bri
Oh, my God, we're so.
Fillmore
Like, at all costs, it's gonna work no matter what. Like.
Nicki
Yep.
Fillmore
You gotta be a little crazy.
Bri
Oh, you. You have to have that little bit of that. You and you don't have that. You and you. You're not gonna make it. I feel like we get to those points where it's like, I'll be like you now. I'm gonna show you I could do it.
Fillmore
It's my Hispanic side.
Nicki
I'm just coming for it anytime people get Italian. Scorpio.
Fillmore
I'm Scorpio, too.
Bri
I remember when I went, oh, you are so.
Nicki
You're getting. I would say, like,
Bri
an excuse. I'm like, yeah, I can. That's, like, what I made up with.
Fillmore
Are y' all November?
Bri
Yes. November 21st.
Fillmore
I'm 20th.
Nicki
Shut up.
Bri
And then Wild Sam, who's our next guest, is the 21st. Yeah, he's the same.
Fillmore
Same day. Yeah, my manager has the same day. He's in here right now. He's the 20th.
Bri
No, no.
Nicki
What year? Wait, that's wild, huh?
Bri
What year?
Fillmore
I'm 88.
Bri
You're 88. Okay. We're 83.
Fillmore
Okay.
Bri
Sam's 86. What year are you? I was just gonna say. He looks like he was gonna say less.
Nicki
Yeah. That's incredible.
Fillmore
I'll put a photo of him up right here.
Bri
Oh, my God. How wild is that?
Nicki
That's amazing.
Bri
Really cool.
Nicki
I love that.
Bri
So we all have, like, a little bit of that Sagittarius, and it's too. Mainly Scorpio. I'm more Scorpio, and she's a little more Sag.
Nicki
So this year, I say we come back to Nashville and do a big birthday bash. Like, we all celebrate our birthdays together.
Fillmore
100. Or if it doesn't work out, I'll be FaceTiming you at midnight because it'll
Bri
be the crossover time. Yes.
Nicki
Spanish to each other. Deal.
Fillmore
That's the deal.
Nicki
That's the deal. There you go.
Fillmore
Wow.
Bri
Yeah. You got it. Yeah.
Fillmore
Kind of gave her the confidence, but I saw you look away. No, she's. She believes.
Bri
Yeah, you got it. She always finds a way to hate. Oh, my gosh.
Nicki
Thank you so much for coming.
Bri
This was fun.
Nicki
It was awesome. And thank you for hanging out with us the other night too.
Bri
Oh, my God, we love that. We need more hangouts. Everyone, please check Fillmore out on Instagram. Instagram at Fillmore Music. Also, where else can we check you out? Like, tour dates, all that stuff? Is it just Instagram anywhere else?
Fillmore
Everything is all at Filmore Music 1F 1L. That's the website. That's every platform everywhere. Yeah.
Nicki
So perfect.
Bri
All right, well, everyone go get your atypical on.
Nicki
Yes.
Bri
Get a little Yeehaw.
Fillmore
Y' all are absolutely amazing.
Nicki
Thank you for having me.
Bri
Thank you for having us. Thank you for having us. No, thank you for being here.

Episode: Filmore: Keeping It Atypical (Nashville Takeover Series)
Date: May 15, 2026
Host: SiriusXM
In this engaging Nashville Takeover episode, Nikki and Brie Garcia welcome genre-blending country artist Fillmore for an energizing, heartwarming, and often hilarious conversation. The episode explores Fillmore's journey from Missouri “jock” to country innovator, his musical philosophy of staying “atypical,” the impact of parenthood, the importance of self-acceptance, and stories behind working with Pitbull and other musical collaborations. The trio shares laughs about man buns, songwriting inspiration (hint: heartbreak!), and even plays a lighthearted lyric game. The episode is filled with affirmations about being different, reflections on artistry, and a uniquely “Garcia twins” dose of fun.

Fillmore’s journey from “choir for a second recess” to touring with superstars and creating a new country sound is an inspiration to artists and dreamers alike. The hosts and guest connect over music, family, and heritage with warmth, wit, and authenticity. Both serious and silly, the episode leaves listeners motivated to embrace what makes them unique and to keep things—literally and figuratively—“atypical.”
