Nikki
Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the Nikki and Bri Show. And today we are joined by two absolute powerhouses. They're World cup champions, former US Soccer stars, moms, NFL wives, teammates turn best friends, and two women who know a thing or two about performing under pressure. From championship goals to raising kids, launching businesses, and now hosting their brand new podcast, Style of Play. They've done it all. Please welcome the incredible Julie Ertz and Kaylia Watt to the Nick and Brie Show. What up, ladies? Hi.
Julie Ertz
Thank you guys. What an introduction.
Brie
Yes.
Nikki
Well, you guys have crushed it.
Brie
Two badasses all the way around.
Julie Ertz
Thank you guys. We're so excited to be here.
Brie
Oh, I love that. Thank you. So I say we just kind of get into many of the accomplishments you both have had in soccer. Like, kind of take it back, like, way to the beginning. When and for both of you, at what age did you both become serious about soccer? Like, do you remember a specific moment when you're like, this is it for me?
Julie Ertz
Yeah, I'll start, Julie. I think so. Growing up, I was also a dancer. I did like ballet dancing and all of that. And I think it was around the age of like 12 or 13 when our coaches, coaches started to say, like, you really have to decide what you want to do. And so I think around 13, I had to quit everything else and I became a soccer player. And then from that moment on, I just remember I always, I wanted to do that. And there wasn't always a professional league to look up to. There wasn't always a vision of what we could really do in the sport, but I just always wanted to play soccer.
Kaylia Watt
I was not a dancer and if you watch the way I play, you could absolutely know that I have no dancing abilities, which is no surprise. Kayleigh is like so fast and like the way she runs is dancer esque. I was nine, I just played every sport and I, you know, I had an older sister and I think obviously, Kay having sisters and you guys as well, like, I just wanted to do what my sister did, and I loved it. And it just was like, the most freeing thing to me to find something that I felt like I could embody that was like so much of me, the competitive, being able to have that aspect. I loved being strong. I loved being like. And so I just loved it. And on top of that, it was my best friend. So I got to play with my best friends. They also wanted to choose soccer. So, yeah, I felt like I was pretty young, but I made the choice. I was like, mom, I'm good. I don't. The other ones don't do it for me.
Nikki
That's amazing. Well, you know what I love, and I feel like people are, you know, more familiar now with club soccer and really all club sports and how they take over your childhood, literally, the cycle,
Brie
but in the best way, because you do make your best friends.
Nikki
I think all of us, we sacrifice dances, birthday parties, you name it. As a young kid, those are.
Brie
Or, you know, getting into drugs or doing bad things.
Kaylia Watt
We did.
Nikki
Yes.
Brie
We never had temptations.
Nikki
Even though I will say the first time I tried alcohol was with my soccer team.
Kaylia Watt
But.
Nikki
Yes, but what I. Yeah, exactly. You know what I mean? I'm like, we were kind of naughty, too, but when, you know, even Nikki and I playing club, definitely people started as you got older, started to stand out. And, you know, when we're talking to you two who are World cup champions, when did you notice that you were. I don't want to say better than other teammates, but.
Brie
But, like, I'm freaking good.
Nikki
Yeah. Where you're like, I can make a career out of this.
Kaylia Watt
The career part was hard because K kind of mentioned on it, like, we. At that time, there was no league for us, like, really to quite understand it. I mean, you could have the idea, like, okay, I want to be on the national team. But again, wasn't televised. It wasn't like I was seeing their games all the time. So college was kind of like the cap. And for me, like, if I was going to go to a college, it was only really going to be because of a scholarship. Like, my parents weren't probably most likely going to be able to afford that for me to go to college. So for me, like, at the time playing, it was like, what college are you going to? And that, at the time, felt like, you know, as growing up, I switched clubs because one club had more visibility for a lot of clubs as well, and growth. And so that, at at the beginning I was like, oh, like making a career out of it was for me going to college.
Julie Ertz
I was just going to say college like you were saying. Julie. That was really the goal because there was no professional league. But I think for both of us, we got into the youth national team program pretty young, I think. Fifteen, right? Julie? Or sixteen. And so we had that goal of playing forever and being on the national team. But it really was you. You can only really make a career out of it when there's a pro league. So thankfully the pro league came. Came along before we graduated college.
Nikki
See, that's amazing. So when you guys played the pro league, you had to have jobs like to pay your bills because did they, they, did they pay you or was it kind of like did.
Julie Ertz
It was basically not. I don't know. I think the, the, the first season, I remember some people were making like $5,000 for the entire season.
Kaylia Watt
Wow. Wow.
Julie Ertz
And we were living with host families. Did you live with a host family? Julie?
Kaylia Watt
I got set up. So K and I were both in the first round pick. So they housed us like they had. So I was like with other teammates. But like the max contract you could make in the first year was $25,000 round pick. Like it was like the first that you could do. And that's coming off of like I also had a. Zach got drafted the year before. So like going to like NFL games and feeling what it felt like to be a professional athlete. And obviously the NFL level is like the NFL level. Like no surprise, but it was like welcome to being a professional athlete. And then it just was like not that in the sense of coming out of college now. It's really cool that a lot of these girls even, they don't even have to go to college now. Like they can go straight into the league and be a professional and be in an environment that has professional level of everything where that wasn't the case. Like K and I just. Our whole careers had to like basically be a part of the, the crew that was like fighting for it to be a professional league.
Brie
Which is in so many ways so amazing because you guys probably see with this generation, it's crazy how cuz just even with wrestling, when you're at that forefront of fighting for change and breaking barriers, but still being able to be in the environment, it's like we just have this different kind of grit and grace to all of us. Where I'm like, these younger generations will never have it because they don't truly understand. Like. And I mean this in the best way. But, like, that blood, sweat, and tears, like, that fight of having nothing and truly fighting for something. It's great when you come into the leagues or, you know, our division, and it's like, okay, well, we're gonna elevate it. Like, let's make it elevated. But to have that, like, fight, I'm always like, damn, that was so freaking hard. And, man, I wanted to give up soon. But then I'm like, whoa, I am such. I have so much grit to me. I feel like Brie and I always talk about if there's ever a zombie apocalypse, like, we will survive it.
Nikki
We do believe that. Well, you know, for you two, do you do or do you feel blessed that you were at the forefront and had the hard journey? You paved the path to what women are getting now, or do you wish timing was a little different, that you could walk into the league now and reap the benefits of what the women are getting?
Julie Ertz
I think it's a little bit of both. I'm so proud of what we have accomplished and what. Where the league is now. But I just remember playing there was such a feeling of we needed to be grateful for everything we had. Like, we couldn't ask for more because you better be grateful or they'll take it away. And honestly, that was. That is one reason I think there has been abuse and real issues in soccer, because we were so scared to. To say anything, or we thought, we're not going to be able to play professionally anymore. So I'm just so happy now that it's more of a landscape of, you can fight for what you want. You can speak up if something isn't right. And that, I think, is the most important part.
Brie
I so agree.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah. I think that the freedom that you watch a lot of these players, even when they go and they're like, oh, I'm just having so much fun out there. I do feel bad for, like, a lot of the girls who fought so much, and this is the reason why they fought for it. Right. Cause they wanted it to be at this level of what it is now. And that's incredible. But to not really kind of be able to reflect on your career and be like, gosh, I just had so much fun, like, what the players have now. Like, that part. I'm like, gosh, I just. I wish there was, like, a little piece of that. And not that you're not laughing. You're with your. You know, you're with your team, and there's not great memories and part of that, but Just the freedom part to be up there and just play. Like, I hear some of the especially young girls who've never had to really be in that timeline of what it is now. But the previous. So that part I would say, I think for a lot of the girls who really, really fought and were playing on such low salaries because they believed that this could something, they sacrificed a lot. And so I think the freedom part,
Brie
I, you know, I. And I could so relate to that. And I feel so lucky and fortunate that I get to be back in the division we're in, because that's the same with the women now. They get to create and. And I know our world's so different, but they, they get to be in like cage matches and like, do all these like, really cool things. And, you know, we would even maybe ask for that back in the day and they'd laugh like, are you joking? Like, you guys are girls. But now, not only do the women get to do all these badass things, so they get to come in and they get to just be so creative and think larger than life and they're having fun doing it. And it's been so cool seeing that part of it. And you're like, wow, I'm proud what we did, but we didn't have that.
Nikki
And now I get to be a
Brie
part of that in a way. But they do. They get come in and they have fun and they. The juices flow and well.
Nikki
And I also, you know, for me, when I think of it is, you know, a lot of women from our era, in the eras before us, they could never buy a house. They could never, you know, I mean, when they bought a car, they felt like, whoa, but it wasn't like a nice car. And now you see, you know, women are capable of buying their houses now and are in the division, which is great. But I'm looking at the back errors and it was kind of like what you were saying, Julie, is like, I see them working, you know, like jobs, working hard because they couldn't capitalize on the fame, the platform that they were given back in the day that, you know, with social media and all the things now so many of the players, athletes, whatever, can really capitalize on and like make some money because people can do that back in the day. So I feel bad for those women who sacrifice so much and are like busting their asses off now, like, you know, for their kids and all that stuff. Why they're seeing like a lot of us doing tick tock videos, you know, making money and I'm like, yeah.
Brie
So you know when you have like those crazy days and mornings, you know it's going to be a packed day and you have to rush out the door and you just need to grab a quick snack and just throw it in your bag.

Julie Ertz
One of the biggest things in soccer, too, that we've seen throughout the years is that before you could not have a baby, really, and keep playing, if you wanted to have kids, you pretty much had to retire. So a lot of girls either had to retire because they had kids or put it off for so long because there was just no way to do that. And so I get so happy when someone is able to have a child and then come back and play, because that's. That was unheard of.
Brie
Yeah. That's so beautiful. I love how times have changed for that. It's so important for women.
Julie Ertz
I agree.
Nikki
That's at wrestling, too, because I retired to have kids, because never in a million years did I think I could be on a contract then pay me to have a baby now. You know, I love that. I see that women can do that. So, you know, all four of us, we're warriors. We fought hard for these.
Julie Ertz
We're doing it.
Brie
And so. Okay, so you both go to Chicago Red Stars. Was it, like, immediate, like, best friend chemistry and energy and fun? Like, just total ride or die at the beginning.
Kaylia Watt
Okay. You know, it's so funny. We talk about full circle all the time. So I met Kay when I was full 14 years old, so I was 14.
Nikki
Wow.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah. So we have these things that are, like, regions broken up. And Kay is originally from Utah, I'm from Arizona, so we were on the same region together. And then you talk about, like, full circle, then coming back, doing a podcast together, and just, like, the immense amount of respect that we've had each other, because we played against each other. We played against each other in college. She got drafted to Houston in the beginning, and then. Then we become teammates back because I was in Chicago already at the time. And I. I told her when we, like, even started this podcast, and then she lived down the street from me, by the way, when they used to live in Arizona.
Brie
Oh, wow.
Kaylia Watt
And so I'm like, if you told me when I was 14, the full circle relationship that we would have, because I would say it was like, teammates. And then it's just our. Our, like, lives have, like, they're just, like, so parallel. Like, it's just so crazy. So it's been fun to do retirement after.
Julie Ertz
Like, our husbands are obsessed with each other. If you guys didn't know that. JJ and Zach are, like, best friends. So it's like, we've just always kind of been with each other. Yeah.
Nikki
Oh, my gosh. It's like, one. That's, like, a huge bonus because my husband. I don't know why it's hard for him to make, like, best friends. I'm like, go make, you know, friends. It's, like, weird. He gets, like, weird out. So to have that and then you guys are best friends. That's, like, such a plus.
Brie
Yeah.
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Kaylia Watt
It's so funny. They're like work wives. Is that the thing that people say?
Brie
Yeah, totally.
Kaylia Watt
Work husbands, you know, it's like, insane. Like, when they were in all the Cardinals together, I'm like, are you guys okay? Like, they're like, the same person almost in the way of, like, certain things, and I'm like, this is so bizarre. But, yeah, it's great.
Brie
I love it. Do you know how. Are they going to be guests on your podcast? Or. Wait, you guys just launched your podcast?
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Nikki
Yep, we just did.
Julie Ertz
We were. How many episodes on? Like, three. So we are very new to this, and I always watch you guys because I. You guys are such pros. But they're. They're coming on soon.
Nikki
We're.
Julie Ertz
We're really excited. We're going to do a funny episode with them.
Brie
Oh, I love that.
Nikki
So roast them.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, exactly.
Julie Ertz
Yeah, exactly.
Nikki
But we've roasted my husband many times, but then he kind of brought it back. He's really good at bringing it back. Where he roast us with Bella brains.
Brie
Yeah. I mean, you know, he gets us. Geez.
Julie Ertz
Yes.
Brie
Okay, so let's get into. Okay, the name Style Play, and then what, like, what your podcast is going to bring to your audience. What can we expect?
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, I. Style of play we love, just because it's. It's kind of a fun thing of just us on and off the field. Right. Everyone has their own style. The Men's World cup is going on right now, if you haven't heard. It's here. It was in Mexico, also Canada in here. And then the next year is the Women's World cup, and then the following year is the Olympics here. So there's just a lot of soccer coming on, but it's more than that. And I think being retired, we've also. We've learned that, like, we're so much. We're our sport. We love it. We'll definitely talk about it, but there's so much to it, right? Like, there's so much to being a professional athlete. There's so much to being a mom and a professional athlete, a wife. Like, there's just so many layers. And Kay and I have just had multiple conversations of just all the incredible stories, and we just love the wholesome conversations with people getting to know them. Like, well, I'll fall in love with an athlete. I'm like, I'll watch a documentary. I'm like, they're my favorite athlete because you get to know them. And I know. Kay, we'll chime in, too, but we've just been having a blast being back into it.
Julie Ertz
Yeah, we. We're also just so passionate about bringing more eyes to the women's game. Our national team, the Women's World cup, is next summer, and we have so many young players. And I have so many friends, mom friends that have no idea about the soccer world. Like, they'll text me and be like, can you explain the World cup to me? Like, what is. Like, what. What is going on here? And so we're trying to kind of introduce to people new players and the soccer landscape. So it's been really, really fun.
Brie
That's really cool.
Nikki
I do love that. And I feel like soccer in the last five years, especially the athletes, both female and male, like, they become huge global stars. Like, I feel like everyone now is, like, familiar with soccer players, which, you know, when we were younger, that wasn't the case. So I feel like. I mean. Yes.
Julie Ertz
Yeah, it was like, Mia Ham. And that's kind of it. Yeah.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah.
Brie
I mean, because I was a defender. I was like, Carla Overbeck was like my girl.
Kaylia Watt
But.
Brie
Yeah, but we were so. Took her top off, like.
Nikki
Well, took her T shirt off, you
Brie
know, but how weird how the world freaked out about that.
Nikki
She showed her sports bra. Now go put her on Playboy.
Brie
That it was like, wild, you know? And by the way, did you guys ever have to do the Michelle Akers run growing up?
Kaylia Watt
I never knew there we. I did think me a ham run. I. Maybe they just have a different name for it, depending probably, like, where you live. Like, that's just in your.
Julie Ertz
Wait, what is it?
Brie
I. I've never the time. So you first do. What is it? The 10 yard. So many times you have to hear the beep you to be back by the beep. And then it goes 20, 30, 40, 50. It's like an hour long. So they.
Kaylia Watt
I don't think I've done that particular.
Julie Ertz
I haven't done that.
Kaylia Watt
But bad one.
Brie
It would make you, like, throw up towards the end. Especially being Arizona girl.
Nikki
I was gonna say Julie, were you raised in Arizona?
Kaylia Watt
Born and raised, baby.
Nikki
Oh, where?
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, I grew up in Mesa.
Julie Ertz
Okay.
Brie
Oh, wow.
Nikki
So we were.
Jimmy & Jay Uso (WWE Advertiser)
Where.
Julie Ertz
Where did you guys grow up?
Nikki
We're Scottsdale, so we went to Chaparral High School. What high school did you go to?
Julie Ertz
Oh, my God.
Kaylia Watt
I went to Dobson.
Brie
Yeah. Oh, yeah. We played for Sereno.
Kaylia Watt
Wait, I did.
Brie
No. Yes.
Discover Card Advertiser
What?
Kaylia Watt
This is crazy. No longer. I think they changed the club.
Nikki
Yeah, they changed it.
Brie
We played.
Kaylia Watt
I could have been the third WWE sister if I knew you guys in the time.
Julie Ertz
Yes.
Brie
Okay, girls, she was giving me about the other day.
Nikki
Never. Julia, we can get you in that ring.
Brie
Okay, Right, Okay. So she's giving me shit the other day because we're going to go to the World Cup Final. And I'm like, oh, Bri. So I'm going to take some of my Sereno jerseys and, like, have it all done up and make it really cute. She goes, wait, you still have your serene outfits? I go, I have every single one. And the shorts. And she thinks I'm so weird, but I literally have. I mean, we started playing for them. I started playing for them in fifth grade.
Nikki
It went all the way on the 84 Golden Eagle.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah. That's crazy.
Julie Ertz
That is crazy.
Brie
I mean, that's so wild. We're Golden Eagle.
Nikki
Who was your.
Kaylia Watt
I know. I am. I had. Well, I had a few, but I finished with Les Armstrong. And then I. Oh, my glass.
Brie
Did you
Kaylia Watt
look at this?
Julie Ertz
This is hilarious.
Kaylia Watt
You should have told me that. What if I had came on with, like, my old. But just funny enough, because I think my mom still saved them. You know, when your parents bring over stuff, I'm like, why have you saved this?
Julie Ertz
Like, I don't want my mom.
Kaylia Watt
I had made a puppet, like, when I was in first grade, my mom brought over. I'm like, please throw that away. Like, I don't even remember that. I mean, right away, I brought over my jersey, so. Fair enough. I still do have jerseys.
Julie Ertz
Okay.
Brie
We have to get a pick in our serenity jerseys at one point.
Kaylia Watt
Yes.
Brie
And I can't believe Les was your coach.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
No. Do you remember hearing about Matt Potter?
Nikki
I think.
Brie
Where's Matt now? The head coach.
Nikki
I think Matt's now the head coach of the. Not the earthquakes. What's a female team called for San Jose?
Kaylia Watt
Oh, at the Bay Bay fc. Yeah. Yeah.
Julie Ertz
Did Matt Potter. Yeah, I know him pretty well. Wow.
Brie
That was our coach.
Nikki
That was our coach growing up 11 years.
Kaylia Watt
That is crazy. Yeah. Then they switched to, like, coaching coaches every two years. So I've had a bunch of coaches, but yeah, I figured you guys would do us.
Brie
You guys, this is wild.
Nikki
This means we just.
Julie Ertz
That's crazy.
Nikki
No, we need to have wine. You know what I mean?
Brie
Yes, that's exactly what it means. And then we'll talk a lot about Mom.
Nikki
Do you go back to Arizona a lot?
Kaylia Watt
Yes, I live here again. Yeah, I'm back here. Yeah, I'm. I'm. We're back here. Just. We needed a home base, I think as you know, like being an athlete, traveling so much. And then when I got pregnant with Madden, I was like, Zach, we cannot keep living out of suitcases once we add a kid to this. And then. Yeah, funny enough, I decided I'm going to go back and play after having a kid. And then I just lived out of suitcase with the kid anyway. So I was like, well, I guess we didn't really have to settle down in the sense of a place. But yeah, we're here. Which is great. Cuz kids with help, family help is awesome. Yes.
Brie
Honestly, it makes such a big difference.
Nikki
Yeah, but girl, the heat in the summer, I just. I couldn't do it anymore. Could not.
Julie Ertz
It's so tough.
Nikki
Yep. I tapped out.

Brie
Just kidding.
Nikki
No. Well, we want. What's that really hot soccer player.
Brie
Oh my God. Have you guys been seeing him trend on the Nigerian team?
Nikki
The goalie.
Julie Ertz
Oh, I just saw it today. I don't know his name, but I just saw it. Yes.
Nikki
Can you get him on your podcast? Please put him on your podcast.
Brie
We need to hear all his thoughts of.
Julie Ertz
We gotta get him, Julie.
Nikki
He's the style of the World Cup, Ran.
Julie Ertz
Yeah. Yes, he is the style.
Brie
I want to know who's been in his DMs. You guys need to get it out of him. Know every single person that is dm.
Nikki
So we started to get really nosy and see, like, all the people that started to follow because you know how
Brie
you could click on someone and then it's just.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, yeah.
Brie
And I'm like, oh, hey, girl. So I'm like naming some of the wrestler girls that started following them. And I'm like, oh, all these single girls. I wonder what they've DM'd him.
Nikki
Well, I'm trying to get viral during the World Cup.
Kaylia Watt
It's like, you know, who cares if they're scoring hat tricks and all that?
Julie Ertz
It's.
Kaylia Watt
Yes.
Brie
You know, who cares?
Nikki
It's that six, six goalie. How tall is he? He was like, he's six.
Julie Ertz
Six.
Brie
I mean, goalies have always been hot because they're always the tall ones with, like, the builds. Like a thoroughbred.
Kaylia Watt
It's.
Nikki
Yeah, yeah. Nikki and I love playing games. So we have this game that we'd love to play with you guys. It's pretty much rapid fire, but it is 60 seconds.
Brie
It is rapid fire.
Nikki
It is actually rapid fire. Okay, so girls trip or girls night trip?
Julie Ertz
Girls trip.
Brie
Yeah, for sure.
Nikki
Especially as moms, I'm like, trip trip. Yeah, because you don't feel bad having a hangover. You know what I mean? Like, I can't do it at home.
Julie Ertz
Exactly.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah.
Nikki
But when you're in a girl's trip.
Kaylia Watt
Also, my bedtime has gotten a lot earlier since kids, so trip.
Nikki
Oh, yeah. Yes, for sure.
Brie
Isn't it wild how that happens?
Kaylia Watt
Yeah.
Brie
And it never.
Julie Ertz
Yeah. It's 9.
Nikki
00pm and if I'm not asleep, I get fidgety.
Brie
How old are your guys's kids?
Julie Ertz
I have a one year old and a three year old.
Jimmy & Jay Uso (WWE Advertiser)
Wow.
Kaylia Watt
And I have a three year old and twin one year olds.
Brie
Oh, my gosh.
Nikki
Whoa, girl.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
All boys.
Julie Ertz
I know, I know. All boys. I know.
Brie
Dude, that's crazy.
Nikki
That's crazy because I have two. My daughter is nine, Birdie. And then Buddy, he's five. But he's so wild, the boy.
Brie
Can you imagine having twin boys if Buddy was a twin?
Nikki
I don't know.
Brie
Like, yeah, that'd be crazy. I mean, even with Mateo, I only
Julie Ertz
know how you do it.
Brie
I couldn't imagine.
Nikki
When I look at moms with all
Brie
boys, I'm always like, say a prayer for them. I'm always like, okay, God, please.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, I'll take two.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
Coffee first or workout first?
Kaylia Watt
Coffee.
Julie Ertz
Coffee.
Nikki
I mean, I'm, you know, athleisure or dressed up.
Brie
That's hard.
Julie Ertz
Dressed up for me.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah. Because I'm always an Athleisure. So I'm gonna say dressed up, because I love a good glam. Now if someone comes and does my makeup, I'm like, I'm kissing their hands. I'm like, thank you. Yes.
Nikki
For sure.
Brie
It's so addicting.
Nikki
World cup final or Super Bowl?
Kaylia Watt
Ooh, World cup final.
Julie Ertz
World cup final.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
You know what also would be a good segment on your guys's show? I mean, you guys are kind of like OG Wa Wags. And now, like, I feel like Wags are, like, such a big thing in the NFL now. It's like, these girls are becoming so known. That could be fun to talk about.
Nikki
All right, all right. Producer.
Julie Ertz
I know, I know. Yeah. Come produce our show. Yes.
Nikki
Planner friend or go with the flow friend?
Kaylia Watt
Go with the flow, Planner.
Brie
I know. I see. I'm like, I want to be a planner at home, but then if I'm like, on a girls trip, we could go with the flow.
Nikki
See? And I'm planner friend. Like, I. I do my research.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, one's got a plan or you guys are going nowhere.
Julie Ertz
You need one planner.
Kaylia Watt
Yes,
Nikki
that's usually me. I do the planning. Okay. Sweet or salty?
Kaylia Watt
Sweet.
Julie Ertz
Sweet.
Nikki
I'm a mix, actually. When I think of it, I know. Tax or FaceTime?
Kaylia Watt
FaceTime.
Julie Ertz
Text.
Kaylia Watt
Honestly, crazy enough, I'm a call. I will call you.
Julie Ertz
Yeah, you call.
Kaylia Watt
I call K all the time. I'm like, I. This is easier. I don't have times to. I don't have time text. But I can talk to you with my headphones.
Brie
Yeah, see, I'm like FaceTime because I don't like the phone, like, on my ear, on my face. So, yeah, anyone who's family or friends, I have to, like, like, FaceTime. And then I kind of like how I could set him up and cook dinner. And I. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true. And then voice notes. Do you guys do voice notes a lot to each other?
Kaylia Watt
Never. I've never voice noted anybody neither.
Julie Ertz
I don't really even know how to do it.
Brie
Oh, my gosh.
Julie Ertz
I never learned how to do it.
Kaylia Watt
My friends do it, but I'm like, do you want to hear my voice like that and, like, just save it forever? I don't know.
Brie
Well, and I. So much at a time, I never say. But then it is funny when all of a sudden someone saves it. I'm like, wait, why they want to say that? Like, I was just.
Nikki
They're holding something. Yeah, yeah.
Brie
Bribe me later. Why did I voice notice?
Julie Ertz
It does.
Nikki
It does mess me up when I Can't save it.
Kaylia Watt
When I.
Julie Ertz
All of a sudden you're like.
Nikki
And then I was like, should I have saved their answer?
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
Romcom or thriller?
Kaylia Watt
Romcom, baby.
Julie Ertz
Romcom for sure.
Nikki
We don't have enough of them either. Too many thrillers out there.
Kaylia Watt
Oh, I know. It's going to happen at the end every time. Time.
Nikki
Love it. Yeah.
Kaylia Watt
Still love it. Yeah. I feel like. I feel like same storyline, new person. Still love it.
Julie Ertz
But I feel like they like went away.
Nikki
They did.
Julie Ertz
I want more.
Nikki
I knew we need more.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah.
Nikki
We don't have our like modern day Jennifer Aniston. Megan.
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Nikki
Megan Ryan. Right?
Brie
Meg Ryan.
Nikki
Meg Ryan. Where are they?
Brie
Well, now I feel like it's like. What is it called? Red river or River.
Nikki
No, but I need like movies.
Brie
But what I'm saying is I. Virgin River. Virgin River.
Nikki
Still. That's still like.
Brie
Well, it gets a little drama.
Nikki
Like. Yeah. Like there's still a lot of.
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Brie
I need a. I mean, off campus. Was my rom com as late?
Nikki
Oh, yeah.
Kaylia Watt
Everybody's talking about.
Julie Ertz
That's what we have now.
Kaylia Watt
Like the last one that I laughed so hard and thought was so good was just go with it. Did you guys see that?
Julie Ertz
Oh, that's.
Nikki
No.
Kaylia Watt
How long ago was that out? It's so funny. It's with.
Nikki
Okay, I need to write that down.
Kaylia Watt
Jennifer Aniston. It's so funny.
Nikki
Just go with it.
Julie Ertz
But is it like kind of old? Like years old maybe?
Kaylia Watt
I'm like, I feel like now I. Somebody writes 2010 and I'm like, oh, that's not that long ago. I'm like, oh, yeah, wait, yes, it is. Yeah, Years ago. Sixteen years ago.
Nikki
I know.
Brie
I feel like now I do time from like COVID lockdown. I'm like, oh, wait, when was that? And I like. Because we missed years, so I forget things and I'm like, yeah, 2020.
Nikki
I still think we're in the 90s. I forget.
Julie Ertz
I know.
Brie
Tell by them jeans.
Nikki
Yeah. Honestly.
Julie Ertz
Okay.
Nikki
Brunch or dinner?
Julie Ertz
Dinner.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, I like a nice dinner now.
Nikki
Yeah, me too. I'm the same brunch was before kids. Now you have kids too early. Yeah. I'm like, yes. I wake up at 6am I'm like, brunch. It's lunchtime.
Brie
And I feel like when you become a mom, dinner is kind of like you're going out.
Spanish-speaking Advertiser
Out.
Brie
Yeah, we don't go to the club anymore. We don't do those things.
Nikki
You know, it's like, I can have a nice wine.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah.
Nikki
Cocktail.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah. I get dolled up for a dinner. I'm rolling out of bed and putting my. Yeah, I'm combing my hair. That's about it.
Brie
And I don't know if it's just me, but, like, having mimosas that early or champagne, it never makes me feel great. Like, I don't know what it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nikki
Unless I'm on a girl stream, and then it's different.
Brie
Different. Yeah. I, like, feel like I have, like, three cups of coffee without water.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
That's kind of the feels it gives me.
Nikki
Yeah, for sure. You know what I mean? I'm like, I didn't like this ice bath or massage.
Julie Ertz
Massage, massage.
Nikki
And I do 90 minutes now. Like, I don't do 60. I do 90.
Julie Ertz
Yes. You know, I need the full 90. Yes.
Kaylia Watt
The worst is when you hit the halfway mark and they're like, flip over. And I'm like, already?
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Kaylia Watt
Yes, I'm with you.
Nikki
Or when they get to your feet and you know, that's the finale. And you're like, nobody for this.
Julie Ertz
It's coming.
Nikki
Or the sculpt. It's either. Or it's either the header.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, yeah.
Julie Ertz
Yes.
Nikki
Okay. And then these ones, we have a couple questions with short answers, so. Yeah.
Brie
That you can't interrupt.
Nikki
I won't. Current TV obsession.
Julie Ertz
I'm a Housewives girl, so any of the housewives shows.
Kaylia Watt
I'm not watching shows now, so I'm a documentary girl right now, so. I know. Odd answer, but I just. I'm in my documentary phase.
Nikki
What's the latest one you've watched?
Kaylia Watt
Rafa?
Nikki
Oh, I don't know.
Brie
I missed that one. Yeah, I love a good documentary.
Kaylia Watt
It's the Rafa Nadell's. His documentary on, like, his, like, career. The tennis player.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
Awesome.
Kaylia Watt
Just finished it. That so good.
Nikki
You know which documentary I just watched was that one on the girl in the car accident. Did you see that?
Brie
Oh, you watch that?
Kaylia Watt
Oh, that was everywhere.
Julie Ertz
It. That was crazy.
Nikki
Crazy. So wait, did she.
Julie Ertz
She meant it was sad.
Nikki
Yeah, it was really sad.
Julie Ertz
I think so. Yeah.
Nikki
I mean, if I'm gonna collect the evidence of the documentary. She's guilty.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
And not all.
Julie Ertz
Have you seen. Have you seen, like, the text and stuff coming out? I think post documentary of, like, what she's been sending and stuff from prison or what she sent before and, like, her phone calls from prison. She's not right. There's something wrong.
Nikki
I did see some of that, and that's when I knew. I'm like, this girl. Even, like, in the documentary. When they were showing, like, the Instagram thing when someone wanted to sponsor her or, like, I don't know, like, do a post with her or, like, the agency something, and she's still in the hospital bed and she's like, oh, my gosh, like, been wanting the opportunity. I'm like, you're. You were just in parks and. Where your boyfriend was killed and your friend.
Brie
Yeah. Well, you know what I thought was really sad? I didn't watch the documentary, but what I saw is I can't believe they released the cop cams of them telling one of the boys moms.
Kaylia Watt
Oh, I didn't see it, but that sounds awful.
Julie Ertz
That's when I was like, this is so sad. Yes.
Nikki
Yeah, I don't think it was the boys moms. It was just. No, no, no.
Brie
It was the boy's mom.
Nikki
I don't know. I watched it. Oh, no, they. It was her parents. They signed off.
Julie Ertz
Was she, like, sitting on a.
Nikki
On a porch?
Brie
Yeah, sitting on a porch.
Julie Ertz
I think I saw that.
Brie
They show him she collapsed and that's right how they weren't letting her, like, kind of run off and, like, late. Like, I hated how they kept trying to sit her down, but no, it's really sad. Anyways, we'll move on. Well.
Nikki
Oh, my gosh.
Julie Ertz
Most used emoji laffy face. Yeah, the. The old laughy face. I'm not, like, up with the times. People say it's, like, not cool anymore.
Kaylia Watt
Wait, you mean like the. Like the little colon and like, there's like.
Julie Ertz
There's like. No, not that old. Not that. But there's, like a new. There's like a new one that's supposed to be cooler. Like, my nephews are like, nobody uses that laugh fluffy face anymore.
Nikki
But I. Oh, my gosh. I wonder what the new cool one is, because I think I used. Well, mine kind of. I use the sideways one a lot.
Brie
Yeah, you do.
Julie Ertz
That's the cool one, I think.
Nikki
Oh, yo, look at her.
Brie
Made my day.

Nikki
Best meal you've had this week.
Kaylia Watt
I'm just gonna go with coffee because I don't remember anything I've eaten. I like pick off my kids food. But I go to coffee shops like every day. So I'm gonna go with like my, you know. You know those, like coffee shops, they like roast it fresh and they make the syrup.
Brie
Yeah. I'm a coffee snob.
Nikki
And Arizona, great coffee shops.
Julie Ertz
It does.
Brie
Yeah.
Julie Ertz
We just had a really good lunch and have you guys ever been to or heard of Amanyara? That's where we're staying right now in Turkey.
Kaylia Watt
It's.
Julie Ertz
We just had pizza for lunch. It was so good. Yes.
Nikki
That sounds yummy. Favorite family tradition.
Kaylia Watt
Can you hear my kids? I'm so sorry.
Julie Ertz
I can hear them in the background.
Kaylia Watt
Our favorite. They're so young, so I feel like we're like starting things, but I. Zach prays with them every night and it is like the cutest thing to hear, especially a three year old, like, say things of who he wants to pray for. So I'm gonna go with that just because it's like a. The top of my head for sure. But all the other stuff, the family trips, all those, like, they're still so young. So I feel like we're like trying to figure out what that is for us. But the every night prayer that I hear him on the little monitor every night is like the sweetest thing.
Nikki
That is so sweet.
Brie
That's so cute.
Julie Ertz
We are trying with our three year old to like, minimize TV time because it gets out of control. And so every Friday, this isn't the only time he watches tv, but every Friday night we do movie night and he gets so excited for that. So that that's. That's probably our only, like, real tradition right now.
Nikki
I love that. But that makes it fun. I mean, for all of us. It was Blockbuster, you know, Friday, Saturday night.
Julie Ertz
I love Blockbuster.
Nikki
It was the best. Get those hot tamales.
Brie
Yeah, that's right. And when you sell what, Scottsdale and Tatum Boulevard.
Nikki
No, we do Scottsdale and Shea right
Brie
there by native New Yorker.
Nikki
No. Oh, but maybe it was down a little. You're right. Me, but you know, and how bummed. You'd be excited for a movie and you'd go. And it wouldn't be behind it. And you're like, yes.
Kaylia Watt
It wouldn't be behind.
Julie Ertz
Gone.
Nikki
Yes.
Julie Ertz
Empty. Yes.
Nikki
And then you go check to see if maybe someone dropped it off. Yeah.
Kaylia Watt
And then you have to like.
Jimmy & Jay Uso (WWE Advertiser)
Yes.
Kaylia Watt
Be okay with the second movie choice.
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Kaylia Watt
Dang it.
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Nikki
Try not to be bummed. Oh, my God.
Brie
We're saying like. And then, I mean, this was siblings and you guys probably get it because don't you both have siblings?
Kaylia Watt
Yeah, yeah.
Julie Ertz
Yes.
Brie
When you're like, walk by like the dirty section and like, you're pushing one of your siblings in the 18 and over.
Discover Card Advertiser
Yes.
Nikki
Okay, last question. Something simple that brings you joy.
Kaylia Watt
First one in my head is music. Our house. Zach. I don't think Zach's actually ever been around. Like, just he. There's always music going. Even it's on his phone. And so he just. And then it goes through our whole house. We have stereo systems. Everybody's like, there's always. When he's. You like, no, he's home. There's this like, music. And before it annoyed me because it was like, can I have some peace and quiet? And now it's just like, sweet because I'm like, he's home.
Brie
Oh, yeah, that's sweet.
Julie Ertz
That's really sweet. I've already mentioned this once, but I think mine is any of the housewives. Like, that's my time to, like, relax. They're like screaming on the TV and JJ's like, what the hell is wrong with you? But I don't know, it like, relaxes me. I love it so much.
Nikki
Oh, my God. What's your favorite? Gosh, what do you call it? Like, district or house?
Jimmy & Jay Uso (WWE Advertiser)
Yeah.
Brie
Oh, my gosh.
Julie Ertz
Yeah. I. I like. I love Beverly Hills and I love. I think New York City is probably my favorite of all time.
Nikki
Yeah, they.
Brie
They're an incredible. When I did the traders and when they would like, just go at it with people at the round table, I was like, oh, housewives are like, no joke. No joke.
Julie Ertz
Which housewives were on do. Which.
Brie
Dorinda.
Julie Ertz
I love Dorinda.
Brie
Dorinda was amazed. That was one where I was like, yeah, you don't with her, like, at all.
Julie Ertz
No, no, no. I would be scared of her and
Brie
Robin who did Washington D.C. yeah. Who has the sons, I think that play basketball, right?
Julie Ertz
Yes, yes.
Brie
Dolores. Who? I love Dolores from New Jersey. And I think she's doing another one. She's so incredible.
Julie Ertz
She's so cool.
Brie
She's so cool.
Julie Ertz
I'm.
Nikki
Well, we've done stuff with like, Lisa Barlow because we used to be in business with her.
Julie Ertz
Oh my gosh. She cracks me up.
Nikki
And she's hilarious. And even before she was on Nicole and I would always be tell her, like, you have great one liners. Like, she just always was that person. So to see them, like, just really go viral on Real Housewives Salt Lake City is hilarious.
Brie
Hilarious. Then you know, I am from Dubai. But she'll do like, okay. She so Our first time at the round table, I picked her that I thought was a traitor, and she was like, excuse me, what? And then she was. Even when we're at the reunion, and I love her, she's the coolest thing. And we were all even hanging out the night before the reunion, and she goes, no, I'm just still bothered. Like, why you thought I was a traitor? Like, that first time, like, she could never let it go.
Nikki
Why did you.
Julie Ertz
That is so funny.
Brie
I had my reasons then. Okay. But she's hilarious. She's funny. And I think those were the only ones at the time.
Julie Ertz
But like a lot of other Traders, like. Yes, yes. There's so. I feel like so many. Like Bravo do on Traders is the. I always see, like, articles after the show about, like, fighting or like, people don't like each other. Is it real? Like, do people truly get. Get in fights and mad at each other?
Brie
Oh, my gosh, big time.
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Brie
Like, for me, and I think maybe I had spoke about this before and you guys will understand this. I think as athletes, you come in with, like, a totally different mindset. So whether it was Dancing with the Stars or the Traders, anything I've done like that, I know you go in, it's a competition, we can be a certain way to each other. But then when the game's over, that's it. Okay, cool. Yeah, like, great game, whatever.
Nikki
Yes.
Brie
And so I was able to do that, but I saw very quickly a lot of people can't do that. People get offended, they hold grudges, and then it carries on. And I was like, oh, like, people are really going at it. I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, you know, we're in a game.
Julie Ertz
But that's what I feel like with housewives. Even if some of the fights are produced, I'm sure a lot of it is producers, but then I think you can't. That's. You start not being able to separate it. So you actually hate each other.
Brie
Yeah.
Julie Ertz
Because even if it was fake, you get offended.
Brie
Right.
Julie Ertz
I love reality.
Kaylia Watt
It's made for K. Yeah.
Brie
Yeah, I love that.
Nikki
Well, those Beverly Hill dinners, you could tell they're going at it like someone said the wrong.
Brie
Well, because what I think is producers overhear things and then they. They have someone bring it up at the table.
Julie Ertz
Right.
Brie
They know. They know.
Nikki
They know what they're doing.
Brie
I mean, we're.
Julie Ertz
That's what I love about Beverly Hills. And even on Traders, when it becomes like, you guys are real celebrities, not just random housewives, because then there's Real stuff, like the news and a story in Page Six. Like, it just gets so. It's so interesting to me. It's like a documentary, right?
Brie
Well, when, like, Tom Sandovolf came out of the car, and I was like, oh, gosh. Like, you know, that was like, I'm standing there with Gabby and then. And I got really close with Chrishell, and they would argue and.
Julie Ertz
Oh, yeah.
Brie
So messy.
Nikki
Messy, messy.
Julie Ertz
It's messy. It's messy.
Nikki
I love it. Well, we always love to end our episodes with a little inspiration, affirmation. Can both of you leave us with a little quote, a mantra that you live by for our listeners?
Brie
Yes.
Julie Ertz
Mine is kind of cliche, but I always go back to this in every stage of my life, and it's. Whether you think you can or you think you can't. You're right. And just, like, remembering, like, your life is whatever your thoughts are, and. And if you want to change it, you got to change your thoughts.
Nikki
Yeah. So true, though. Gosh.
Brie
I.
Kaylia Watt
Every year, Zach and I make, like, a word. Like, we just say what the word is going to be for our year to go back on, and this year's is just. Just gratitude. So I think for us is just finding moments of appreciation and, like, return moments of kindness. And I think that's just kind of like, our focus for the year. So I would say it's more instead of a quote, more of like a reminder for us. I also saw something that gratitude and, like, anxiousness, anxiety can't live in the same moment of your brain. I don't know. I'm not a psychologist, but I did read that, and it felt truthful.
Julie Ertz
Right.
Kaylia Watt
Like, when we're. Yes. So I'm gonna go with that.
Brie
Yeah, I love that. Yeah. Gratitude always feels so grounding and healing. Like, when your heart's so grateful in your soul and you lead with gratitude, it. Like, I. I agree. I don't think any of that can live in that space because it just
Nikki
puts you in such a different. For sure. And it's such a great thing to teach our kids as well, you know, at such a young age, because I do that with the kids, and it's. It's really beautiful. It really does.
Julie Ertz
Cute.
Brie
The whole word thing, too. I love that. That's really.
Kaylia Watt
Yeah.
Julie Ertz
You guys do that.
Nikki
It's really cool.
Julie Ertz
I feel like you guys have always
Nikki
embodied that because we're big Eagle fans.
Brie
Oh, yeah.
Nikki
And I feel like you both, as a couple, have always embodied. Embodied that. And because the Eagles always kind of showcase, like, all the great work you guys were doing in Philadelphia. And I always loved it. I'm like, damn. They're like a really wholesome, like, couples, like a lot of happy hour. But you always feel gratitude and the. You guys were. I love that. So I. That's great. I love it.
Brie

Nikki
Yes.
Discover Card Advertiser
Yes.
Nikki
And hopefully, like, our paths crossed with World cup and all that we're gonna actually be at the finals. We'll be at the world.
Kaylia Watt
That's so cool. I don't know. We're trying to.
Julie Ertz
Yeah, we're trying to figure it out.
Brie
So, Julie, if you go double Dog dairy to wear your Sereno jersey with me.
Nikki
Oh, no, you got the double dog hair.
Julie Ertz
Yeah.
Nikki
