Nikki
Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the Nikki and Brie Show. And today we are bringing back curious conversations.
Brie
Oh, yes. Very curious. About so many things up as late. Oh, really? No, not really.
Nikki
Well, then you want to just dive in. Brie, you want to hit me with your first curious combo?
Brie
No, I actually don't.
Nikki
Oh, good. Are we playing doctor today? The funny clown. What are we doing?
Brie
Well, I mean, I don't know what's really curious about a funny clown. Well, I mean, the way that you're.
Nikki
Gonna be the funny clown. No, that's what I was meaning at all.
Brie
So, Nikki and I always have fun doing this. Curious conversations. We usually. We don't know what we're going to ask each other, but we like to hear what each other comes up with. Kind of feels like it's a little off. Bella Brains.
Nikki
Yeah, right. For sure.
Brie
Okay, well, I say you go with your first question.
Nikki
Okay, Bri, I'm gonna have you be like. Like a congresswoman for a sec.
Brie
The last thing I'd ever want to be.
Nikki
What is a rule in society that no one really follows but we all agree exist?
Brie
I don't know, really. I mean, it should be that the only way we can breathe is with trees. And if we keep cutting down the Amazon, we're going to screw ourselves. But for some reason, there's no logic there.
Nikki
But, you know, that's. I mean, that, like, that's what I like the. About this curious conversation.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
What are, like, rules that you feel like it would be easy to follow, but no one does, is that we're.
Brie
Going through our natural resources so fast, and the minute they're not there.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
We can't exist. Totally. So the importance of fresh water, Trees, bees, insects, a lot of things that we keep getting rid of.
Nikki
The bee Thing is the major why people put up bee killing things. When you're like, those are for wasps.
Brie
But still part of the bee family. But not pollinators. But no, they don't have to.
Nikki
Well, they don't have to go. But.
Brie
But bees do get caught up in there. But I think for me, well, you know, there was a big win for some bees. I can't remember what country was, but they finally got legal rights because, yeah, without bees, we can't exist.
Nikki
Right.
Brie
But yeah, that's a very, you know, Brie type of answer. Well, I mean, is there something you.
Nikki
Think, well, like, jaywalking, but also, why did it get called jaywalking? Do you think, like, the first person that did it was named Jay?
Brie
They're like, no, Jay. You can't do that.
Nikki
You can't walk that way.
Brie
Nobody can walk like Jay. No jaywalking.
Nikki
But does it stand for something that we just don't know, that we know.
Brie
We failed in driver's ed?
Nikki
Yeah, because, like, when you think of jaywalking, you're. You're illegally walking or you're not walking.
Brie
You're walking out of a crosswalk.
Nikki
But why is it a jaywalk?
Brie
There must be something we don't know.
Nikki
There has to be. Is it because, like, you walk kind of down the street and then you go across it so it makes, like, a J instead of, like, just going straight across?
Brie
I'm gonna ask Google. I know.
Nikki
Actually. I'm actually really curious about that.
Brie
Oh, let's see.
Nikki
What is jaywalking?
Brie
Jaywalking is called that because Jay was slang for a native country person.
Nikki
Okay, so we don't want.
Brie
And the term was. Wow, I don't know. So it's racist.
Nikki
Okay.
Brie
Jaywalking is called that because Jay was slang for a native country person. So it was a J, like a hick or a.
Nikki
Let me see. Okay.
Brie
Oh, naive.
Nikki
You. So jaywalking is called that because Jay was slaying for a naive, not native country person, which is a hick or rube. I didn't want to say what a rube is. I'm sure rub is term.
Brie
Rub. I'm sure it's rude to call someone a rube.
Nikki
Oh, well, for sure.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
I thought you thought I was saying rude. No, well, I'm just reading what Google said, so. And the term was created by the auto industry in the 1920s to blame pedestrians for accidents, shifting blame from drivers to people who crossed streets carelessly. Of course, if they were ignorant of city traffic rules, the term ridiculed pedestrians for stepping into roads that car manufacturers wanted for their vehicles. But at the end of the day, you guys, jaywalking is called that because Jay. Jay, who was a countryman, he walked out in the 1920s, and it might have not been his fault, but guess what? GMC was going to make sure it was his fault. Just kidding. I'm not gmc, but I'm trying to think of Ford, one of the original.
Brie
Jay made a very honest mistake, an accident in his.
Nikki
And they want his overalls and cowboy hat and. Not that. I mean, I'm just.
Brie
Corporate America decided to use it.
Nikki
Poor Jay. Poor J. Well, at least we were right.
Brie
I feel like we should call it something else now. I feel like the.
Nikki
No. No walking.
Brie
I don't know. I should. It should be called, I don't know, something else.
Nikki
Bad pedestrian walking.
Brie
Walk at your own risk. Let's just say that.
Nikki
No, you definitely need to have rules and should get tickets for jaywalking.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
There has to be laws on that.
Brie
Or no idiot walking.
Nikki
No. We'll just say the no. No pedestrian walking. I like that.
Brie
Right.
Nikki
Okay. What do you got for me?
Brie
Okay, so I'm very curious about this. We're.
Nikki
We're gonna lean native person. I mean, unreal.
Brie
Naive. I meant well, you know, it's because I jumped ahead because I have dyslexia, so I saw, like, the hick and the rube, so I instantly went to, like, another.
Nikki
What is a rube, though?
Brie
I don't know.
Nikki
I mean, obviously, it's a. It's a bad word.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
But I've never heard of it.
Brie
Google. Okay, so this one's going to come from, like, social media, pop culture. Is protecting your peace online a selfish act or a necessary one?
Nikki
Well, I mean, I feel like we talk about that all the time. Beyond necessary. There's not even a curious conversation about that.
Brie
Just wanted to know.
Nikki
Well, no, you wanted to know where did Chat GBT give you that?
Brie
No, I did that.
Nikki
Curious about this, Brie. Even though I kind of feel like I might know your answer. But I'm very curious. What's a life skill we're all expected to know, but no one actually taught us. No one. No one actually taught us.
Brie
Your checkbook, how to write a check, how to balance your check and account. Those are all surprises. Utility bills. Nobody told me about that in high school. I came to learn at 18, quickly.
Nikki
Also, I feel like. Like, the amount of water you should drink in a day.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
Do you know what I mean?
Brie
Right.
Nikki
I also feel like. Like learning the Heimlich. You should learn that in school.
Brie
Yeah, I shouldn't wait till two like your parent.
Nikki
You shouldn't have to like wait till like your parent or want to be a lifeguard to learn it. It's like. Or a nurse like you. Everyone should learn that in school because you get put in a situation public and everyone just thinks you should know how to save someone.
Brie
Right.
Nikki
From not breathing or choking.
Brie
Interesting.
Nikki
Interesting, right? There's honestly quite a few life skills and like, you signed up for automotive class in senior year, so you learned how to change it. Or auto care. You learned how to change a tire. But like if I didn't learn how to change a tire because I didn't take the class. Yeah, and everyone just assumes you should learn how to. You should know how to change a tire.
Brie
Right. The new year is here.

Brie
So another actually aaa. Yeah, I actually have a curious question kind of leaning into like this kind of area. Why does homeowners insurance kick you off for fire insurance if you live in an area that has fires?
Nikki
Because they don't want to pay for it. They want your house to burn and they don't want to pay for it.
Brie
But I mean, when you really break.
Nikki
It down 100, it's a scam.
Brie
How does that make Sense scam. Because you're only going to look for fire insurance if you're in a fire area. But then they're like, tell me how.
Nikki
You pay for health insurance. And then you go in for things. They're like, oh, actually, that's not going to just be the 500 copay.
Brie
Not even.
Nikki
It's going to be this. And it's like, but isn't this the point of health insurance?
Brie
No, they'll get you because they'll go, it's a 50 copay. You're like, awesome.
Nikki
And then, oh, 50,000.
Brie
Two months later, you get like, a bill. And you're like, wait a second.
Nikki
I'm like, how do fake titties cost less than this?
Brie
Right, Good point.
Nikki
There's something I saw, actually, I need it.
Brie
Okay.
Nikki
I read a headline, so I do not know what this exact.
Brie
So you're gonna start a rumor.
Nikki
I heard, and I need to figure find out that something under the Trump administration, in, like, the next year, if you've had, like, plastic surgery, like, there's something about getting kicked off your health insurance or, like, certain things won't get covered.
Brie
F. That I'd be.
Nikki
I know. Well, they were saying everyone who got bbls and, like, all the stuff are. It was like this whole thing. So.
Brie
By the way, headline, no ideas, Right? Okay.
Nikki
But. Oh, I should never do that. For our next curious conversation.
Brie
Okay, you asked me one, and I have another one that Buddy asked me.
Nikki
Last night, curious about this. What universal experience should. Like, which one should come with a warning label?
Brie
Like, a warning label. So what universal experience should come with a warning label? Yeah, like flying.
Nikki
Like, maybe I. My first thought would be, like, traveling. Because I feel like sometimes people just travel and they think, like, oh, I'm gonna go here. And it's fine because everyone do their research, right? And then they. Things happen.
Brie
Yeah. I mean, I guess travel, I feel like warning. You're going to Disneyland and you're gonna drop a ton of money. I don't know. I mean, I would say travel would be the biggest.
Nikki
Okay.
Brie
But other than that, I mean, just. You live and learn.
Nikki
Oh, gosh. All right.
Brie
Live and learn.
Nikki
That's. That's the label.
Brie
Live and learn. Live and learn. That's the motto. So Buddy asked me this last night. Oh, who created outer space?
Nikki
God.
Brie
How long ago?
Nikki
From the beginning.
Brie
How long? So he goes, and how big is it? So he starts asking me this. And this can get you in a weird space, right? Like, and then he goes. And then he goes, well, when there's Outer space and where's heaven at? And so he just started to go into that deep, really hard questions. And I'm, like, trying to give him very generic answers.
Nikki
Heaven's above it. And, like, God started everything still.
Brie
I go up, like, constantly pointing north. But, yeah. And then I'm like, you know what? Can we. Let's talk about something else. Like, how was your day?
Nikki
Like, well, it's like when people will say there's a big Bang. And, like, what I believe is God was like, yeah, boom, there it is. Well, when they think Earth started from, like, the Big Bang theory, Right.
Brie
Oh, is that, like.
Nikki
Right, that's what some people believe.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
I'm like, okay, but I believe. Yeah. It was like God being like, boom, let's start life.
Brie
I never knew that Big bang meant, like, Earth, what was a flying rock and became.
Nikki
You do not know the Big Bang theory.
Brie
I don't know. I probably was snoozing in class when they were talking about it.
Nikki
I mean, even as an adult, you don't know the I love theory.
Brie
I love the TV show Big Bang Theory.
Nikki
Yeah. So you didn't learn anything from it?
Brie
I mean, I knew there was their whole, like, intro. Well, I knew that, but I didn't get it. Whatever. I know third rock from the sun is Earth because we're third.
Nikki
Okay, but. Oh, my gosh, you're nuts.
Brie
You're nuts, dude.
Nikki
That's, like, what non believers believe. How, like, Earth started, like, the world. Life started. It was from the Big Bang. But most believers don't believe that. But what I am like, let's. Let's all become one. The big Bang came from God being like, and here we go now life starts. So, I mean, you know, funny.
Brie
Yeah, we'll see. I'm. I'm a not a non believer, so I guess I never have dived into that. Oh, don't get the flat Earther thing going.
Nikki
That has nothing to do with flat Earther at all.
Brie
Okay, well, do you believe the Earth is round? Because there's a lot of people out there who will argue with you.
Nikki
Okay, well, I will go get an astronomer or an astronaut, and I'll be like, guys, I mean, we've seen the Earth. You've seen it from space. Yeah. Is that flat? Because it looks pretty round from above.
Brie
I believe it is round. But you will. Some people think that.
Nikki
Yeah, the Truman show just stops. Boom.
Brie
Is that what he believed in, the Truman Show?
Nikki
No, but I'm saying. Because he went out when he finally went out, but he was like, it was a set.
Brie
No, I think theirs. They look at the ocean. I must think they just like take a ship and they go and they fall. I don't know how they. What they think. I don't know. I'm not a flat Earther, so.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
But I know they're out there.
Nikki
I just. Why I don't believe in flat Earth theories is we literally have photographs from space and clearly the Earth looks round.
Brie
Yeah. So. So actually something I just read, which I thought was cool, one of the astronauts that just came back from space, it was really neat. His perspective of when he saw it, he goes, he. Now listen, this is like his experience. So that when he saw Earth, it wasn't divided into these countries that we draw out and we learn. Like, that's North America and there's Australia. He's like, when you look at it, it just. It's a planet and you see, you know, the consistency of what if it's made of. But you don't see the drawings of what we all know.
Nikki
There's also Wayne space.
Brie
But what it made it is like, so we. That's why there should be unity. This is our print. All of us together. Like, we don't own this. We don't own that. Like, we're like. When he was up there, it made him very much realize, like, how off we all are here.
Nikki
100, you know, drawing the lines.
Brie
You know, it was like, really. I thought it was a really great perspective. And you look at someone like that who goes up there and sees it and. Yeah, I thought that was cool. By the way, I'd never be an astronaut when. How long they're up there. I mean, I get. It's hard for me on some rides.
Nikki
No, you are born to do that. Like, no, it. That is. Yeah. That has to be within you from birth because. Yeah, that's crazy to know things. What you have to, like, handle, like, mentally, physically, all the things, all the training. Good for them. Geniuses.
Brie
Yeah. Yeah.
Nikki
So curious. Do you think there's something that we collectively overreact to in the world?
Brie
I mean, I think we overact over a lot of things.
Nikki
So what's the first thing that, like, sticks out in your head?
Brie
I mean, I feel like we over. I feel like we overreact of the way we're all judged.
Nikki
Like, but aren't you judgy, Judy?
Brie
Yeah, but I don't need people to overreact over what I'm thinking of you. And I don't.
Nikki
So we react to people's opinions.
Brie
Yeah, like I know you're not. Everyone's gonna love me. And I know not everyone's gonna agree with my views and how I live. That's okay. Yeah, let's keep the peace and have, like, judge in a kind way.
Nikki
What I.
Brie
You can judge in a kind way. We. I judge in a kind.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
But what I'm saying is I think sometimes we all overreact because that's actually a good one.
Nikki
And I agree. And I think we not only. We've already talked about this, how we feel like a lot of people in this world lack empathy, but we lack understanding. Right. So for sure, like, poor jay in the 1920s was like, dude, you all misunderstood. Yeah, I just wanted to run to go get the new Coca Cola that came out. And now forever, you all are calling it jaywalking.
Brie
I mean, we should figure out where he's from or he was from and if there's still members alive to this day.
Nikki
I'm assuming now this is an assumption Midwest, the South, maybe.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
Where were the car companies?
Brie
Now you can go really deep and this is like the stuff you are, like conspiracy theorists. Maybe it was all made up. Maybe Jay's in a real person. Maybe they made it up. Right.
Nikki
I mean, for sure. They're like their automobile, like, all mess.
Brie
They had a big old.
Nikki
Let's blame some guy. And like, the guy hated a guy named Jay, so he's like. We're like, just call him Jay and we're gonna say Jay, we ran in the street.
Brie
Well, just think is like, you know, at that time, they'd call your penmanship, like your personality. No, John, like Hancock. Hancock. Like you had John Doe. Jane Doe. So J.
Nikki
So they're walking.
Brie
We don't.
Nikki
We can't say John walking, so we'll say Jay walking.
Brie
Do you know?
Nikki
Yeah. Which I can never think of it as anything else because.
Mint Mobile Advertiser
Right.
Nikki
It's all we know is.
Brie
But another J. You know, this is like what people do. Weird.
Nikki
Yeah. I don't.
Brie
I'll.
Nikki
I'll go to a certain level. And then I'm like, you know what? Just pour the swine.
Brie
Like, you see me on tick tock. So what I'm thinking about is.
Nikki
No, they're all start with J's.
Brie
And if you go back to that year, 1920s.
Nikki
I mean. I mean, but kind of funny that jaywalking started in 1920s, but. Oh, but I guess that's. Yeah.
Brie
You got to get over the jaywalking something.
Nikki
Excuse me.
Brie
You got to get over it.
Nikki
Well, maybe it's something I'm curious about next.

So I'm curious about Bri. What's something that used to feel exciting as a kid, but now it's just stressful? I just give me a long list of things.
Brie
I mean, just something.
Nikki
Holidays. Yeah, it's like the main.
Brie
For me, holidays, for sure.
Nikki
Obviously, you just show up and have fun.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
Got nice food on the table, desserts everywhere. Now we all have to provide it.
Brie
Even the other day, Birdie and Buddy wanted me to play tag. And I'm like, sure. But I was like, blown up. And I'm like, this isn't as fun as it used to be. But like, you know, they're giggling. Love it. Laughing, loving it.
Nikki
Yeah, but that's cute.
Brie
It is. But yeah, I guess. Holidays. Yeah, for sure. Okay, Nicole.
Nikki
And then after this, we're gonna play a game.
Brie
Okay. So is chasing balance realistic, or is it something we're always adjusting?
Nikki
Chasing balance, always something we're chasing. I feel like that's been on my New Year's resolution list for like five, six years, maybe longer.
Brie
So then why do. Are we constantly feeling like, like balanced?
Nikki
Like. Well, because unlike the flat Earthers, I feel like.
Brie
Because we dealt the stratum round.
Nikki
Yeah, we're just. Energy's always moving. The earth is always moving. Life is always changing and moving and how much we want to try to balance it. It's like, again, we talked about that meme you sent me. The squirrel finally is in peace. And then it gets like, hit with the snowball and it's like the universe is like, nope.
Brie
Yeah, I just.
Nikki
Things are always happening. Life is just going. And so I feel like right when we think we Start to get balance. New things come into your life and yeah, it's just, I don't know, I've started to figure out that's the way it is. That's why it's important to be present and go with the flow. See, someone showed up who was trying to figure out balance. They go, you know, go with the flow. Look at flow over there. She's going with the flow. So whoever came up with that just got sick of the person talking about balance and realized they ain't happening here. Yeah, ain't gonna happen in this life.
Brie
Well, I will say this, that balance always sounds nice, but I do agree. I feel like we're all, our schedules are always changing. We're changing. So yes, we're always adjusting.
Nikki
So have you totally. Have you noticed how I stopped putting out many years resolutions? Because I just started to realize I stress myself out trying to find balance when I truly don't think balance exists. I think it's more about not always saying yes to things or things like that.
Brie
Well, but, but it is like one of the number one questions always asked, how do you have balance? Now? I always say my priority list. But it is interesting because I feel like people are always seeking it.
Nikki
When you think of your answer to that, always it's like, I do the things I love and blah, blah, blah. So it's sometimes. So if you want to like get like deep into things, like, does balance exist or is it because when you don't do things you love, you're like trying to figure out ways to maybe enjoy the things you don't love because you're stuck. But if you were to take it out and like, you can do all these things you love and like, it's fine, but you just get my brain hurt. Yeah. And that you made me feel earlier. But you know what I mean? Which, it's kind of funny. I feel like that could be an SNL skit where everything they say, they go, okay, so actually what if this doesn't exist? And like, blah. Oh yeah, you could actually do that with like absolutely everything.
Brie
Yeah. Oh, you for sure can. Okay, here's something I'm curious about because I feel like we see it all the time on social media. Why are so many people drawn to nostalgia right now?
Nikki
Because we're missing life before social media and Internet and these phones because we're.
Brie
Feeling overwhelmed or you think overstimulated overwhelmed.
Nikki
So I just saw a study come out that said I sent it to you probably didn't see it, but because I send you so much stuff. But so it was saying that because of how the world is now, with programming, cell phone, social media, how streaming all the things, right, that these generations and even how we are now, our brains aren't sticking to memories a lot. Because see, pre all of this, our brains really took in things. And so in our memory part of our brain, it really like held on to moments. And that's why like when we had a certain smell, we would think of childhood and we, we would remember those moments. And when you think about, think of how many memories you can remember, think of since this, this era.
Brie
Oh, how much do you remember? We're always like, I walk into a room and I'm like, what was I gonna do?
Nikki
So they're saying the generations that are grown with all this, how they lack memory and they, they're not going back to what they have because this is always blocked them. But I feel like the nostalgia especially what we all crave is we have those strong memories. So those are the biggest ones stuck in our head. And then our kids or our friends feel that like people who don't have that, I think they feel how amazing those eras were because they don't have a lot of memories stuck in their own brain. So then they're like, I want to experience the 90s. Like when you think about it, it all makes total sense. And I feel like that's why nostalgia has become such a big thing.
Brie
Why are we effing everything up?
Nikki
Well, it's not us.
Brie
So I definitely agree with that for sure. And so I think we also.
Nikki
That's why they say millennial, millennials look so young. You know how there's been that because they said we had so many decades of not having this kind of light radiation in our face that has kept us naturally young. And that's why like what's making the other generations look older? Cuz they were just born with it in their face and they always have it in their face.
Brie
It's good to know for our kids. Yeah, I mean we're super strict at our house, but it's good to know to always like, yeah, remember those things.

Nikki
No.
Brie
Let's play. We're hitting you with all the anxiety for bedtime tonight.
Nikki
Yeah, no, there's been a lot of great things, but. Okay, so, Bri, why or why not is our game. So we're gonna take this insane energy we've been talking about into a game, and that's what we're gonna call it, why or why not. So here, here's how it works. We'll take turns reading a statement and answering why or why not? And we can, of course, expand as we see fit.
Brie
Yep.
Nikki
So the first one, more family trips. Why or why not?
Brie
I say, why not. Brian. I actually want to do more trips. But what we said. We want to do more trips that are driving. You throw the bags in the car, you find like national park camping grounds, and if you don't like that, whatever city to go explore a museum. But Brian and I said this year we don't want to think about flying as much as driving. What are like, things that are driving? Distance. We feel like our kids can handle four to five hours in a car.
Nikki
Totally.
Brie
And. But we feel like do more road trips on the weekends.
Nikki
I love that.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
By the way, for sure.
Brie
Agree. For sure. For sure. All right, this one. Nicole, canceling plans because the couch is calling.
Nikki
Hey, that means your soul is calling. Some rest. So I say, why not?
Brie
It's.
Nikki
You know what? I just feel like because of over stimulation and stuff, we just need more bricks at home. Before, we didn't. We didn't connect with people unless we went out. So there was a reason to always be out because that was when we got our human connection. People connect so much online that I get why you're just like, I'm staying on the couch.
Brie
Rest and decompress. Honestly, you know, I've been doing this January where I won't let myself watch a show, which I hate, putting the rules on myself, but I wanted to, like, kind of decompress differently when I get the kids down. So I've been reading and it's actually been really nice. And you obviously notice the differences. You sleep better. It's true.
Nikki
I watching my shows at night, but it's true.
Brie
But your eyes get heavier so I think you fall deeper into sleep.
Nikki
Like for sure, you know. But yeah, they say that. I mean they've been saying that you need 2. 2 hours stop screen time before bed.
Brie
Yeah. Okay. Next.
Nikki
Learning a new skill just for fun.
Brie
Why not? If you have the time. Don't stress yourself out.
Nikki
Don't stress yourself out.
Brie
Don't put too much on your plate. But yeah. You know what someone told me they.
Nikki
Say it's so great for your brain.
Brie
Yeah. When you go in your 50s is when you start to learn to play the piano. They say that's like a 50 year old really. Like.
Nikki
But great for their brain.
Brie
Yeah, for sure.
Nikki
Gotta keep working that brain out.
Brie
So. But you know what I've really wanted to do and I've eyed some classes, but I'm too busy right now. But is pottery.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
I really want to learn.
Nikki
I would like to do like. Like the way the ghost version like Patrick S. Sway was talking.
Brie
Demi Moore.
Nikki
Demi Moore. I mean I like to do a pottery class like that.
Brie
I'm sure you would. Okay, next one. Waking up an hour earlier each day.
Nikki
Yes. Why not get it done? I. I feel like once you get into that flow, you know, whether they say 14 days makes a habit. I think it's so much better in life.
Mint Mobile Advertiser
Yeah.
Nikki
To be up earlier and like. No, it depends. Like I agree with it.
Brie
But I'm in a hard place in my life because buddy.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
We'll still come into the bed. So setting an alarm. And if I feel like he still needs to sleep or I don't want to wake up Brian.
Nikki
Look, if.
Brie
But I do want to wake up.
Nikki
You wake up an hour earlier and you still get good sleep. Then do it.
Brie
Yeah. Yeah. I. I mean I really want to. I want to be on that 5:30am time, but it's hard. Okay, next for me.
Nikki
Huh?
Brie
You're gonna ask me a question. You want me to ask you?
Nikki
Well, I just asked one, but. Okay.
Brie
No, you didn't. I asked you that.
Nikki
Trusting timing instead of forcing outcomes. Why or why not?
Brie
I mean, I believe in timing. Timing's everything. So I say, why not? I think based off experience in my life especially I would say in the last three, four years, I really lives off timing. And it. Every time it came at the right time, even if I desired it before or I was. I felt I wasn't ready for it. And was there when I followed through. I go, oh, see?
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
Something higher. New. Totally. It was. The timing was perfect.
Nikki
It's weird because I feel like when you're forcing outcomes, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
Brie
For sure.
Nikki
And failure is fine, but disappointment's different.
Brie
Yep. Yeah, for sure. Okay. What about letting your kids see you mess up and own it?
Nikki
Letting your kids see. Oh, well, yeah. Why not? Like, as long as you own it. Yeah. They need to. They need to know you're not perfect so they. They don't feel like they have to be perfect.
Brie
Even like, one thing I do is. I'll admit there are times, like, I'll get to a point I might yell. The first thing I do is I apologize.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brie
I'm sorry, guys. Mommy's had a really hard day.
Nikki
Yes.
Brie
I didn't want to yell. I shouldn't have yelled. I apologize. And I think saying sorry will help them. And I see it. It helps them say sorry. It lets us all know. And then when you own it, they know, like, I don't need to be perfect. We're going to have these down times, so let's all tell each other. Yeah. Because I think a lot of times how we all were raised was we never got to see that part of the apologies and. And everyone, you know, being a little stubborn to, like, I just think, why? No, don't. Cause that, like, let your kids see early on that you're sorry for the mistakes you make as a parent.
Nikki
100.
Brie
Because we're not perfect.
Nikki
No, I agree. And, you know, I think it's sometimes good for them to see you mess up, and maybe they succeed at something. Like, I am a LEGO master, so there you go. And then he can build something cool, and I don't. And that kind of gives him a little, like, confidence boost of, like, okay, this is what I can do. And Mommy can't. Googling yourself. Why? Or why not? Don't.
Brie
No, don't do that.
Nikki
Why? Why?
Brie
No, don't do it. You know, you're. You're gonna judge everything they say and see. You're even gonna date. You're even gonna judge the first picture pops up. You're gonna be like, who did that?
Nikki
And sometimes it's so intentional.
Brie
Well, we feel.
Nikki
I mean, I can't even go run in the rain with, like, my pink clip in my hair. Dude, that really sucked for me, which.
Brie
It's fine for you, but that's okay.
Nikki
Pouring rain and I didn't want to get. And I'm like, throw it up, clip it. Hoodie on, like, and after training, like, just makeup. Freeing to keep going as if being makeup free is so bad. But then you have me in a spot. Sprint across the street with, like.
Brie
Yeah. I mean, right now I got the Antonio Banderas ponytail going on. Whatever.
Nikki
Well, don't dis yourself.
Brie
Do you know, like, it is what it is, but. Yeah, but don't I. That's. There's one thing. Say for nothing.
Nikki
Why?
Brie
Yeah, why? Why?
Nikki
All right, you ended one more, and then we'll.
Brie
One more.
Nikki
Oh, I thought you want to do one more?
Brie
You want me to give you one more?
Nikki
Yeah, give me one more, and then we'll go into some inspiration information.
Mint Mobile Advertiser
Okay.
Nikki
Oh, you don't have to. If you don't got nothing, then.
Brie
Oh, here we go. Letting your twin sister answer your text for you. Texas. For you.
Nikki
Why?
Brie
Please let me do it one time.
Nikki
Yeah, like, I want to let Bri return my text message. I mean, I do have, let's see, 547. If you want to start checking them.
Brie
Jeez. I'll just send everyone emojis.
Nikki
Oh, gosh. As long as they're not eggplant ones. So we were water.
Brie
No, we were laughing because my cousin was messing with my brother, and he was like, harding, what? Some people were saying. And then when my brother would write something, he would do a thumbs up because he wanted to see if he noticed Kelly. Yeah. And JJ ended up noticing, but, like, they were like, it was funny. He's like, JJ at first was like, so strange. Like, hearts things, but he keeps them stuffing my.
Nikki
That's actually amazing.
Brie
Amazing. Like, it's funny. Like, you could do that to people and there's a it.
Nikki
Oh, for sure.
Brie
You take it the wrong way. But, like, yeah, I thought that was hilarious.
Nikki
That's really.
Brie
So I would do that in your text messages. I would, like, No.
Nikki
I would never, ever let you respond on my behalf.
Brie
Oh, my gosh.
Nikki
So should be. At times you're like. You mean more direct or, like, whatever you say. And I'm like, more direct?
Brie
Yes.
Nikki
Or like, you'll just say things and I'm like, dude. And also, sometimes I think your perspective can just whatever. What will just not be my vibes. Okay, Meaning, like, I will not want you to respond on my text messages.
Brie
You will. You over think everything. How many times have you asked me, like, like, oh, is this fine? Is this fine? I just, like, write it and send it. Huh? Or voice note it.
Nikki
Oh, please don't. Hey. So native.
Brie
It reminds me of when I Was on michael' Strahan Pyramid Show. Jeez, that guy still talks. Not Michael Strahan. The guy who I was helping. Yeah, well, you probably still talks about me.
Nikki
You lost him a bunch of money because you didn't know the word comma. You kept thinking coma.
Brie
No, no. Yes, I think I kept. Oh, you're right. Yeah, I kept saying coma, comma, damn. All right, everyone, well, we're going to leave you here with some inspiration, affirmation, something that will make you feel good going into the world, hopefully smarter. Yeah, no, definitely not smarter, but feeling better. But this is at full spirit quotes. Oh, shoot.
Nikki
It says spirit today.
Brie
Yes, we are.
Nikki
This probably won't be for flat Earthers.
Brie
No, this might actually be for them.
Nikki
Okay. They might like it.
Brie
The world needs more kindness, so don't underestimate the power of your smile, your words, or your actions. Even if you're curious about flat earth.
Nikki
It did not end with that.
Brie
No, of course not. So. But I thought that was nice. You know what I mean? Yeah, it was. You have nothing to say about kindness with smiles and your words. You want people to be like me.
Nikki
You know, I always have to look at it.
Brie
I know. Sorry. I just. I just deleted it. Or I just put it down. I was like, deleted. I mean, jeez.
Nikki
No, you should always.
Brie
Here we go.
Nikki
Kindness and smiles and all the things. I mean, the world does need more kindness. And, you know, it is true not to underestimate the power of a smile, because literally, I try, especially when I'm looking at a stranger and I feel like they just need a smile. I try to get that eye contact in a smile. Because a smile literally can change someone's life for sure and for sure change someone's day. But you have no idea how powerful. Like, a smile smile and just acknowledging someone. Or, like, you'll hear it a lot on whether it's TV shows or whatever, how just, like, someone wants to be seen. Like, they just need to be seen. Like, you know that new series that I'm obsessed with? We both are on Netflix. Leanne. But, like, how the mom.
Brie
I watched that, like, a year ago.
Nikki
Anyways. But, like, the mom of five kids, how she's like, you saw me. I just needed to be seen. It's, like, true. Some people just need to be seen.
Brie
Yeah.
Nikki
So that's what a smile does. It sees people. And Leanne did not come out, like, a year ago.
Brie
I watched it a long time ago.
Nikki
Well, whatever. Did you watch her 2025 stand up, too?
Brie
I started it, but I Never get around.
Nikki
It's really. Well, the second season is coming out soon too.
Brie
I was the one who told you to go watch Lee.
Nikki
I know you didn't. And then I had to wait on my terms when I wanted to watch.
Brie
But you're like talking to me like, I need to go watch the show.
Nikki
And I told you to watch. No, I'm just telling you. But I did say you need to go watch the stand up.
Brie
But it's nice to watch a show like that, right? That makes you laugh.
Nikki
And like, I mean, Mateo laughs so hard. And I love it because it's their facials. Like, he, like, he doesn't like watching obviously shows like that or even cartoons. And that one, he will sit and he's like. He goes like he laughs so hard at their facials.
Brie
Best facials.
Nikki
Best facials. Her stand ups very much.
Brie
We should get her on the podcast. Do you think she'd come on?
Nikki
I would think. I don't know. I think so.
Brie
I saw.
Nikki
She's hilarious. Yeah. What I just love and whoever the writers of that show, it's probably the best writing that I've heard in a really long time.
Brie
Well, I think it's her. She's one of the writers. Yeah. Jeez, it's freezing. It's freezing in here. All right, well, we better go outside.
Nikki
Into frost and 45 degree weather because it's obviously 35 in here.
Brie
Everyone's gonna see Frosty the Snowman come back. He's like, holidays ain't over yet, mom joke. Anyways, everyone. All right, you can catch today's.
Nikki
Should you call him Jay? I'm just.
Brie
No. All right, everyone, you can catch videos of today's episode on our YouTube channel. Also on our social platforms at the Nikki and Brie Show, Tick Tock, Instagram, Facebook, and you can call us at 833GARCIA 2. And also check out the show on Sirius XM Stars 109. All right, bye, everyone.

Hosts: Nikki & Brie Garcia
Producer: SiriusXM
This episode marks Nikki & Brie’s return to their signature “Curious Conversations” format for 2026. With their trademark humor and candor, the sisters dive into impromptu, thought-provoking questions for each other. They riff on everything from society’s unwritten rules to childhood nostalgia, parental honesty, “balance,” insurance frustrations, and the existential questions of curious kids. The episode is bubbly, light-hearted, and conversational, blending real-life wisdom with the sisters’ playful sibling dynamic.
Nikki’s Curious Q: “What is a rule in society that no one really follows but we all agree exist?” (01:56)
Jaywalking: Where’s the Name From?
Segment starts 28:39.
On Jaywalking’s origin:
“Poor Jay. Poor Jay. Well, at least we were right.” – Nikki (05:57)
On balance:
“I just started to realize I stress myself out trying to find balance when I truly don’t think balance exists.” – Nikki (23:43)
On digital overload & nostalgia:
“Because we’re missing life before social media and Internet and these phones…our brains really took in things…” – Nikki (25:11)
On collective judgment:
“I know not everyone’s gonna love me…I think sometimes we all overreact because…” – Brie (18:11-18:27)
On apologies as parents:
“The first thing I do is I apologize. I’m sorry, guys. Mommy’s had a really hard day.” – Brie (33:28)
Brie reads a quote about the power of kindness, smiling, and words:
"The world needs more kindness, so don’t underestimate the power of your smile, your words, or your actions." (38:26)
They end with TV show recommendations, particularly loving the Netflix series “Leanne,” and joke about getting the comedian on the podcast.
This episode is a quintessential Nikki & Brie experience: relatable, humorous, a little chaotic, and full of genuinely thoughtful moments. The sisters’ honesty about modern challenges, their musings on everyday mysteries, and their willingness to own flaws make for a fun and comforting listen—like a happy hour with your real-life besties. Regular listeners and newcomers alike will walk away laughing, nodding, and maybe even a little inspired to smile at a stranger (or reconsider the next Google search for their name).
