Today’s episode starts off with Nikki & Brie trying to find their groove while looking back at the songs that shaped their lives. Also, while Brie schools her sister on the rules of today’s show, Nikki schools Brie on People Magazine’s 2021 Sexiest Man Alive. Nikki & Brie take us on a wild ride of emotions, memories, and discovery with the music of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Ataris, Rachel Platten, Led Zeppelin, Kacey Musgraves & Zach Bryan, The Lumineers, Ariana Grande, Blitzen Trapper, and Hillsong United. The Garcia Twins “Bring It Back” and ponder why they didn’t spend more time together during high school as they pick a few things they’d love to bring back from the 90s. From movies, to fashion, to rituals, and toys. The sisters close out the episode with a nostalgic Inspiration & Affirmation that’s from the West Side of Philadelphia, born and raised!

A
The 90s. Like the mixtape? Oh no.
B
Hold on. That was the only one I forgot to do.
A
How?
B
And I looked at.
A
Course you did. Because you're a hater. When we were talking about it yesterday.
B
No, I loved it. You were just wrong about things. No, I'm actually using Google.
A
What is 90s nostalgia?
B
No, I just wrote in on Google. Things from the 90s, just stuff that I. Oh, I see. One that I would bring.
A
How do you not even remember? Oh, two I would bring.
B
Dude, the 90s rocked. Okay, I'm gonna not even look at any more because I am gonna save it because Google's killing it right now. Polly Pocket.
A
I mean, yeah, you liked Polly Pocket. That was.
B
Well, I wouldn't bring her back, but better than what they're doing now. Actually, I really do like Le Boo Boos. And I really like how it says it.
A
Let's save it, because there's. I would like. I'm gonna go off on you, too.
B
Oh, good. And I can't wait to go off on you.
A
Gosh. Because if you put thought in it.
B
You wouldn't be saying, yay, polypocket. I'm joking, obviously. I already put down two that you're.
A
Gonna probably welcome back to the Nikki and Brie Show. Nikki tried to start without us even introducing.
B
Well, because I have my favorite coffee drink from my favorite, favorite place in Napa Valley. No, it's a cold brew with pumpkin pie. Cold, actually.
A
Why don't you.
B
That is like, my drink of the year.
A
Why don't you be honest with everyone? And it's because I said, are you prepared? And you realized you were.
B
Okay, first of all, this morning, because I didn't have Mateo, so I. It was a slower morning before our workout. And. And not only did I already do preparation last night when I was signing all our Bonita Bonita cards and watching Murders in the building, because it's like one of my favorite shows. I did prep. I prepped this morning make. Because I was like, I'm going to make sure to have everything done. I was very excited. And then I missed one thing, which actually I'm going to be bomb at anyways.
A
Oh, we'll see. We will see. So this is the Nikki and Bri mixtape episode. We want to take things back. When we say back, back to the 90s, but also throughout our lives.
B
You say mixtape episode. I mean, like 90s mixtape. Or it's just. Oh, just a mixtape.
A
You know, we talked about this yesterday, but see, what happens is, I could tell. And I. I omit. I do this to her at times. And I don't know if it's because we hear each other's voices constantly in a day, but we zone out.
B
Well, I just didn't know we had a specific title yet, but okay, it's the mixtape.
A
How many fingers am I holding up?
B
6.
A
I do this to my. My soccer players because none of them listen to me, so I always have.
B
To yell out sweat.
A
I feel them and they're five year olds, so I feel like I gotta do that to you.
B
Okay, wow. First of all, don't do that.
A
Well, Nikki and I wanted to have some fun today, so we came up with five songs each and that bring us what?
B
Well, I was just going to say, so if you tuned into the live show and if you haven't, you better. It's on our YouTube. You. Wherever you listen to your podcast, go listen to it. But we were doing. How this came about was we played a game for the show and it was supposed to be making up your own titles. So of course I misunderstood and I had came up with actual songs of my entire life that meant something. But on I. I quickly came up with some song titles, but we had a lot of fun with it, so we thought we would. My version.
A
Yeah. Even though we didn't get to go fully through my version. We'll save that for another episode. But yes. So actual real songs that trigger test like a really great memory in our life. Maybe a certain vibe of our lives. Good. Feels a song that means something.
B
Yeah. So look, she's so pumped. She was working on this last night. We FaceTime. Because obviously we face. No, because sometimes a day.
A
Why? I was working on it last night because we. I like to be prepared.
B
I worked on it too. I actually.
A
I didn't start working out.
B
Yes, you did.
A
No, you look like you're watching it. No, I wasn't. I. Because what happened is I. Bedtime routine went late.
B
Do you. Have you not watched Murders in the Building?
A
No, but I think. I think it would be like my thing.
B
No, it would totally be your thing. And I'm. I just love this season. I mean, they're all iconic actors. Right. And I'm obsessed with all of them. So Steve Martin. Martin short. And then you get so much Meryl Streep this season. And then, you know, there's so many. And then I, you know, me, I'm obsessed with Selena Gomez.
A
But you've been obsessed for over a decade. Yeah.
B
Then there's so many of people from that SNL era that always come and pop in and are doing certain things. Oh, my gosh. Now I'm going to forget this season, though. There's the diary. The one she also did. How Renee Zellweger. Oh, she has a very fun character.
A
This. No, there. How many seasons is it?
B
But, but, you know, other seasons, who's known as, like, they always say he's the hottest guy ever and he always, like, makes jokes about it. The one with the blue eyes, really funny.
A
Oh, man, I don't know. You know, I mean, I thought we were doing the Mixtape. But no, we are. But no Murders in the Building.
B
I just have to. Because the name is now. Yes, Paul Rudd. Paul R. Is in like two seasons, by the way.
A
Okay. I don't think he ever got Sexiest man of the Year.
B
Yes. Okay.
A
Paul Rudd did. Yeah.
B
And you don't remember his thing with that? I mean, I mean, I just put in, started putting sexiest and it came up. You don't remember the whole thing with this?
A
Oh, my gosh, no.
B
Oh, my gosh. It was amazing.
A
Good for Paul Rudd. I didn't know that. I don't remember that.
B
Sorry. Back to the mixtape.
A
All right, so I say you hit us with a song first. I'm sure it's something to do with Selena Gomez or Murders in the Building as you're writing it when you're watching the show.
B
No, no, that one. I. I've came up with this stuff before, so, you know, we're gonna first go to Scar Tissue by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There's so many songs that I could choose from the Red Hot Chili Peppers because, you know, they. They've been through a lot of different eras with me, decades, highs and lows. But I chose Scar Tissue because Anthony Kiedis memoir, which is called Scar Tissue, really just hit me hard. I mean, obviously, you know, and I think I've shared it here before. He's the only person I stood in line for for an autograph at his book signing in la. But what I love is the message, like, with the song, with his memoir, how it, like, represents, like past pain and how it leaves a mark, but also signifies resilience and the ability to heal and evolve after hardship.
A
I love that.
B
So for me, when we were thinking of songs that's been through so much of my life, but very much high school, transitioning into college and adult life, we all were playing Scar Tissue non stop. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean? We had that. And that was high school days and seeing him in concert and obviously for him and like other people, it hits the happy to be alive moment, which for me it's just like, whoa, childhood left all these scars in me. But now I've become strong, resilient, and I'm going to move on into a better place. So Scar Tissue is that.
A
I love it like your childhood. It's literally childhood era and then going to high school. Okay, so I have a song that's kind of like that. Oh, you do A little different.
B
Yeah.
A
This reminds me, by the way, a.
B
Lot of Bear a lot. Like, for sure, there's so much that. But even you were going through. And then us as twins. That Red Hot Chili Peppers. Isn't it weird? They, like, weave into that.
A
Oh, that's amazing. I mean, they are definitely. They do hit childhood, but mine is way different. It's by the Ataris, which is a punk band, but I totally forgot about the Atari. Yeah. San Dimas High school football rules.
B
Yeah. And that reminds me so much when we were young.
A
Well, yeah, but it was. Katie and I are my US friend. It was like our song.
B
Yeah.
A
All throughout high school we play. I mean, we still to this day, we'll text each other the song. But you know what's funny is the title comes from Bill and Ted's excellent adventures.
B
Oh, my God.
A
And it's where it's like.
B
Yeah.
A
You remember the quarterbacks, like, giving the. I think the final speech to before graduation. And he's like. And at the end, he's like, san Domingo's football rules. And everyone's like, yeah. And the teachers were, like, disgusted. But. So that song just reminds me of the chaos of, like, and how fun it was to be in not only high school, but middle school. All of it. It was like, no rules. All you worried about was, like, passing school, like, whatever, like, before got real.
B
Right.
A
The song reminds me of, like, the fun parts of you.
B
Right. And, like, making those, like, iconic memories that last the rest of your life.
A
Why?
B
We have high school reunions, and you're always interested in your high school peeps. Oh, for sure. You know what I mean? You really make these memories in high school that, like, live with you sadly, especially if you were bullied or certain things happen. Like, those high school memories stick with you forever and really shape the adult that you become.
A
Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. Yeah. I mean, if I were to text it to Katie right now, she'd instantly, like, send me some emojis back. Oh, but so you. Those are, like, the songs that it's amazing that can live with you throughout life. And they might be the simplest. Like, there's no, like. I mean, when you do listen to it, it is like, you know, like, the.
B
The.
A
I like the lyrics. Like, the lyrics, like, hit, like, thinking of high school. But, yeah, I was like, you know, those are one of the songs that, like, I still text every time. Like, if I hear it or I see it, I'll, like, just text her.
B
Yeah.
A
And she knows.
B
Well, you know, it's funny because I recently had asked someone who I knew, like, knows Anthony Kiedis, and I was like, oh, Is he single? And they, like, laughed, and they go, you know, you're way too old for him. Yeah. And I was like, oh, my gosh. And they're like, yeah, you got to be younger and blonde. And I'm like, awesome.
A
Oh, my God.
B
I know. But I feel like he had some.
A
Brunettes in there, right?
B
But it's just neat because I think of that, and I think of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and then I think of when we would go to the shows in high school, and then when we were in college, and because we knew someone who knew Chad, the drummer, how we got to go in San Diego, and they brought us backstage and we're sitting on the speaker, and, like, Flea came up to me during it. And remember, everyone kept being like, look at Nicole. Look at Nicole. Because they knew I was just, like, couldn't believe. Like, I. The most money we had in high school, we paid, and we were sitting in the lawn. And then a few years later, I'm, like, sitting on the speaker on stage. I have, like. And then remember when Anthony was doing the encore Brie, and he came right next to us, and I'm like, I think his Sweat fellow is on my shoulder.
A
Girl, that was, like, your heavenly moment.
B
Heavenly. You guys. I started to become obsessed with them. I think it was fifth grade when Give It Away now came out, or when I. And I remember watching a music video, and he's running and his long hair is flowing, and I just love the music. Remember? Yes.
A
Well, is that your second song? What's your second song?
B
Dad listened a lot to it.
A
Yeah. Well, this is.
B
Is how you know how versatile I am. And, like, I love so much genre music, and definitely I'm more of, like, an old soul, like Pandora. Mainly in my house, it's either Lumineers or the majority of the time, it's Ella Fitzgerald. Like, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday. Those are my girls. And, like, obviously, I think some of the greatest singers that have ever walked the earth are not only them, but I think no one will ever touch Nat King Cole.
A
Oh, my gosh. No.
B
I think he's the greatest, but so many from that era. But not. I love him the best. He was the best. And just so. And Ella, I think. Ella.
A
So is that your second song?
B
No, but how am I forgetting who's in that. Who Ella Fitzgerald sings Springtime in Paris with. It's not Nat. It's. I'm just drawing so many blanks today. I'll get back to it. So my next song is Fight Song.
A
So you Just talked about all this jazz music, and now we're going.
B
Well, yeah, we were just talking about five. I'm talking about songs that had impact. So fight song. And I still will play that all the time. Especially I'm doing cardio power walking. Yeah. And that goes into the era of, like, wrestling, especially overcoming my neck injury. But it. It's like overcoming a lot of different things. But that one, especially with my neck injury and being told, like, your career over, you'll never wrestle again. That song had major impact on me because then when that came out, I listen that on repeat and literally inspired me and changed my mindset, and it helped so much. And I think that's the important part of music. And that's why, like, lyrics are important. Lyrics are important things. You feed yourself. Why affirmations are so good. Right. Is important. It changes your mindset. I agree. So music is obviously the main.
A
Yeah.
B
Of what. Because we all love it. And fight song.
A
I love that when she says, like, she has one match, but she can create an explosion.
B
So can you imagine? Yeah, no, that's exactly right.
A
It was actually playing in the gym earlier today. Oh, did you hear it?
B
No, I didn't hear it when I was in there.
A
Well, we worked out together.
B
Yeah. But when you, like, look at, like, obviously when you say the mat like that always.
A
So that I might only have one.
B
Match, which gave me so much fire to come back. But I just love, like, this is my fight song tape, Take back my life song, prove I'm all right, my power's turned on. I could go on. But every, like, literally line of hers, it's empowering.
A
I love that.
B
What's your next?
A
My next one actually goes to my era of Bear because I'm like, you know, one. Having someone that you lost gonna be. Well, I think you might. I don't know. There's a couple different ones, but, you know, like, that will live with you forever, especially being 18. And it was very traumatic. But, you know, he made me a CD for Christmas, and Bear died in January, so he. It was all these songs where he thought of us. But the first one on the song, which is a song I love, is fool in the Rain by Led Zeppelin. And so I actually was in a coffee shop, and that song came on.
B
I feel like it always comes on in coffee shops.
A
It's.
B
And around the world, us. I will be in a random coffee shop, and I will hear Full in the Rain, and I immediately go, bear, what up, Bear? I just always think of Bear, always.
A
So that'd be my next one on the mixtape.
B
Bear. Which was on a mixtape.
A
Yeah.
B
You know, I still have that cd.
A
It says for Brie.
B
Oh, the Four Breeze City. I love the Fort Bree city.
A
That's when it was like. And that's a little nostalgic because people don't do it anymore. Now they can send you, like, a Spotify list or something cute. But before it's like, you would make.
B
Cute handwriting on it.
A
Yeah. You'd either make a mixtape for a check or you'd make a cd.
B
Yeah. Anytime I hear Full in the Rain and wish you were here. Yeah, I. Why can't I think of the group? I wish you were here.
A
Pink Floyd.
B
Pink Floyd.
A
And also Comfort or Numb.
B
Yeah.
A
Or it's Comfortably Numb.
B
Yeah. Anything led to Floyd, I think so much.
A
A bear. Yeah.
B
Like, but I. Oh, yeah. I love Full in the Rain. By the way, the person I was thinking of Louis Armstrong.
A
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
B
I love Louis Armstrong. I mean, and how about when do you remember wearing overseas tour and Shelton Benjamin gets on the piano and starts singing Louis Armstrong. And you and I, because we, like, a lot of people weren't familiar. Like, they didn't listen to old school stuff. And you and I both looked and go, yeah.
A
What?
B
He sounded exactly like Louis Armstrong. Oh, we love. Did it.
A
Great.
B
And then you, like, just, like, went through a thing of cans and went.
A
Through a thing of cans.
B
Well, they were, like, building. And then we were all doing wrestling moves and I remember. Or no, you were. You were sunset flipping people in the hallway. That's what you were doing. Oh, man. And then they grabbed. I think Jeff Harding threw him through. Remember they built the whole thing in cans in the lobby. And then they wanted to kick all of us out.
A
I was.
B
That was.
A
I was the same night I was and still am.
B
Yeah.
A
Crazy.
B
Yeah. Yeah. So. Okay, well, I like your two eras.
A
Okay, so far, what's number three for you?
B
Katie and Bear. And mine. So this one is I Remember Everything duet with Casey Musgraves and Zach Bryan.
A
Oh, yeah. Oh, that's so an amazing song.
B
An amazing song. And so not only do I love this song because it's, you know, the reflection of past love, both painful and beautiful moments. So I already taken a lot of that. But why it's top. It's the first song Mateo would sing so much in the car, and we both would have our own duet with it. And he knew when the girl would sing would be Mommy and when the boy would sing would be Teo. And we Would. Do you remember when he's on that Zach Brian kick? But it was the first time that I ever, like, looked back in the car seat or in the rearview mirror and he was singing lyrics, like, all of it, word for word. And so we would do it. It would be on repeat on the way to school, and we would just be singing together. So cute. And that song will always stick with me. And I'll just see in his little two and a half year old face, like, you know what I mean? Oh, I could just imagine it so perfectly right now. So it's like. It's so special to me.
A
Oh, it is. That's a good one.
B
Yeah.
A
My next one is. I feel like I have to go.
B
Are you back in high school? Are we gonna.
A
No, no. Now, this is like when I went through a breakup and I was going to New York and I think I started living in New York. Or was it right before New York? I can't remember. It was. I'm trying to think of the year, but it's when I was introduced to the Lumineers.
B
Jo.
A
Hey had just come out and I remember I heard it on the radio or somewhere long ago. Yeah, I mean, it was.
B
I remember them at the award show.
A
I know exactly. I remember where I, like, heard the song and I was like, oh. I was like, this is it. And I was like, a little. Yeah, I was like, a little. I remember, like, it was a hard time for me, but yeah, also like a good. It was weird. But that song.
B
It was a transition time.
A
But that's not the song that got me. Like, I loved Johe. That's what introduced me Lumineers, but also on that album, Stubborn Love.
B
Oh. And that is like, I am obsessed with that song.
A
It's unreal. But so that was like, when I lived in New York, my song was on repeat.
B
Yeah. I mean, Lumineers, they're one of the. They're one of my top bands. They are in my top five. I mean, you miss three.
A
Probably one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
B
When I was supposed to go. What. I was. Even though I was happy you and Brian went. But we're gonna go. We will.
A
I mean, they.
B
They are one of my favorites. They. Yeah, I think they have majority. Like, almost. They, for me are like Red Hot Chili Peppers, where they have so many of my favorite songs. Like.
A
Right.
B
They have so many amazing songs. Like, because lyrically, is it Black Sea?
A
They're. I mean, I'm. There's so many.
B
There's so Many good songs.
A
But I feel like. Because lyrically, Salton.
B
See, whatever. That one hits me to the core. Well, White Lie is one of my favorite. I mean, that one.
A
Cleopatra, Philly.
B
I mean, there's so many. They have so many. Thank Mato came into this world to Ophelia.
A
The. The.
B
He was over meditation music. The minute Opilia came on, that's when I got him out.
A
The tour they're on now is for Automatic. Have you heard that album? I think it might be one of, like. It's one of my favorite.
B
I mean, I. You know what? I listen to so many songs that I don't know their album names.
A
Plasticine.
B
You know what's weird is I only know album names when I'd have to, like, stand line at Best Buy and buy the albums, but I'm not really good at.
A
I know album names, I think more now because they pop up on your car. I mean, the music, I never. And then my kids will, like, yell out the name.
B
Oh, I don't.
A
Buddy's obsessed with the Lumineers. I have so many videos, too. Yeah. Singing. It's so cute.
B
They're one of the greatest bands.
A
Yeah.
B
And I. They have such connection to their music and their songs, obviously, because they write. But I appreciate how when you're there, they want you to be present. And I think that's so cool because that's how it should be.
A
Yeah.
B
I like how they're strict about phones.
A
They're not anymore.
B
Oh, they're not. Well, he probably got, like. I keep telling people, so I'm not gonna. He probably had to do therapy of where, like, I'm not gonna let them ruin my night.
A
Yeah.
B
I'm just not even gonna.
A
Yeah. Because I'm pretty. He said, I appreciate that you guys put our music out there.
B
Yeah.
A
So.
B
Oh.
A
So. Yeah. I mean, I know JR Had a different experience, but I know. You know what it is. Us 40 year olds have to give in.
B
We have to give in.
A
Or the way of life. We try to fight.
B
Try.
A
But it sucked you in.
B
It does.
A
And it's like, if you don't evolve with it, then you're lost forever.
B
That's right.
A
But whatever. Yeah. So stubborn. Love the Lumineers. It. It was like, during me, like, leaving a bad breakup, becoming a woman. And then, like, I felt like I just remember so much that every time I hear that song, it like, takes me back to that time, that whole album. I mean, I'll never forget, you know, JJ and I. You probably don't even remember this do you. Did you take the party bus to Chelsea's wedding?
B
I don't think So.
A
I mean, J.J. and I were like, did I go to Chelsea telling everyone. You're like, you guys know that song?
B
To make it to Chelsea's?
A
Yes, you were. You were there. Yeah, you were. I remember.
B
Oh, yeah, you're right. I was.
A
I.
B
So the Grand Hotel.
A
I mean, just think. JJ and I were like, black. We were on the party bus. We go to everyone. You guys know the song. Johe and somebody were like, no. We're like, what? And we. Blast it. And we're all like, yeah, Dancing crazy. And just think, that's the wedding where we got the call about total divas. Chelsea's wedding.
B
Wow.
A
We're at the Grand. You and I were in the room getting ready.
B
Oh, my gosh.
A
I know.
B
Goodness.
A
As you all know from our social platforms, that we were just in Paris, France, but Nikki and I wanted to do something really different this trip. We wanted to feel like locals. And I have to say, Nikki, the apartment you picked out, oh, my goodness, it was spectacular.
B
I have to say, you couldn't get the views that we got at a hotel unless you were paying outrageous prices. We had incredible views, and I have to say, it kept me with my health and wellness game. But I also got to dive into fun. I had so much comfort. It was like, not only did we get a feel like home in this gorgeous apartment, but we got to dive into the culture of Paris.
A
Oh, my God.
B
We get to go home. We get to wake up, make our own coffee, just go out on our patio. Look at this incredible history. It was just the best. I don't think Bri could ever do Paris the same way again. It has to be with Airbnb.
A
I think my highlight of my time there is when we went to the farmer's market, the really famous French one. And then I came home and made this delicious dinner with all this fresh produce. I mean, I felt like I was living in a movie. It was incredible.
B
Well, and for me, who was working out a lot, I have to say, what was incredible was being able to do my laundry and then make coffee, open up the windows and literally have a chair right there and just be staring at one of my favorite parts of Paris right there on the patio.
A
I mean, what came over when we dream, when are we going back? Oh, my gosh. But the best part is, is that sometimes when you're in your travels, especially in Paris, you might spend a lot of money, which is why I love how you can host on Airbnb. B
Okay, so this one I feel like is more recent era, like very current, and it's Ariana Grande's no Tears Left to Cry. Oh, and I feel like it's.
A
I've even heard that song. Excuse me? No, is it?
B
Yes, you have.
A
I honestly, no. Boo.
B
You joking? No, you're Joking. How have you not heard that song?
A
Just text it to me and I'll listen to it. Look at my phone number once work. I don't know the song.
B
You don't know this song? I am so disappointed.
A
Text it to me. I'll listen to it.
B
I will. I mean, I can't believe you don't know this song.
A
I'm like. To be honest, I know this sounds crazy. I'm really not familiar with her music. Besides Wicked.
B
Oh, my gosh. I love.
A
I mean, I know she's a really great artist and an incredible singer. Yeah. I mean, I love her on Saturday Night Live. She's one of the most all around.
B
Talented people out there.
A
Yeah, she's. I know the one song. Thank you. Next. Yeah, but other than that, I don't really know her music.
B
She has a lot of great music, so that the. No tears left to cry, so. Right. Well. And this song, it's like. Okay. It's about resilience, hope, moving forward after tragedies. So that's why a lot of people are obsessed with song. Because it's like, when you hear her lyrics and, like, you're vibing. It's just like whether someone went through a bad breakup or they're overcoming something tragic, and it's like, you have no more tears to cry. I cried them. I healed. Time to move on. Like, boom. Yeah. Like it goes. Right now I'm in a state of mind. I want to be like all the time. I gotta tell you this since you don't know it. Ain't got no tears left to cry. So I'm picking it up, picking it up. I'm loving, I'm living, I'm picking it up. But it's. That's the song I get. Like, I. If I'm getting ready. What? Or working out or in my car without tail, I'm blasting that. Singing it word for word like, it's. I'm in that place right now. I have no more tears left to cry.
A
Wow. I had no idea.
B
Brie, I can't believe you didn't know.
A
All right. I mean, I know you have no tears left to cry. I. I know that when I think.
B
You'Re gonna be obsessed with it. Yeah. Okay.
A
I'll listen to it on my way to pick up the kids.
B
Yeah.
A
Okay. So my next song, and it's to.
B
Leave you with it. What you will feel about this is like, it gives you the vibes of, like, I'm gonna embrace the good things in life, which I love. Yeah. I mean, you Got to get into Ariana Grande. That's why she's so popular, because she gives you hope, feelings, or she's kind of like, in a way, like a tailor.
A
I feel like she's just not my style. And that's probably why.
B
See, you know me, I've always loved hip hop and rap, and she gives me R B vibes. Okay. In a way.
A
Yeah.
B
Like, for me, Mariah Carey, but a little different. Yeah.
A
Like, I'm. You know, if I'm gonna list, I don't know, it's just not. Yeah.
B
Okay.
A
Not me. So my next song on my mixtape would be obviously Brian and our song, which is not a romantic song. I don't know. I love that. Yeah. Blitzen Trapper. Love the way you walk away. But we just played it all the time when we were dating.
B
Yeah.
A
It's such a good song. Yeah. And he and I, when it became our. When we had to pick the wedding song, he and I kept going. We can't play this in front of everyone. Like, it's confusing. Like, people be like, what?
B
You guys did well.
A
And then we were gonna do Home.
B
Oh, yeah, that's right. And I love that song.
A
Yeah. But he and I just kept going back to Blitz and Trapper. And then we, like, dance. And then we're like. Everyone was dead quiet watching us. We're like, this is so weird. But to this day, I think of Brian and us in our dating. Yeah. Like, where I didn't know if he was gonna be my husband. I didn't know how serious the relationship was gonna get.
B
That's cute.
A
But that was, like, our. So it. And so I don't know. Every time I listen to it, I always, like, think back to those days, you know?
B
Oh, cute. Which.
A
You're cute.
B
I love that song. And every time I hear it, I think of you guys. Yeah.
A
When he'd come visit me in New York, I'd go visit him in Vegas.
B
Yeah. Why on the dance floor with, like, all the family staring you? Only because I know the story going into it. And when you hear the lyrics, you're like, wait, so she's walking away and.
A
Like, leaving, like, when?
B
Like. So it's like more like a breakup song. But that's what it sounds like. But I love it. Okay, so we have one more each.
A
I know, but. Oh, yeah, we do.
B
Because you started.
A
Okay. Yeah, you're right.
B
Do you have.
A
Yes, I do.
B
So this one's, like, so current on, like, Lift. Listening to it, like, as far as the past year, but always have loved this song. I like the way Hillsong sings this.
A
Oh.
B
And I had to end it with, like, I know you know, some gospel. Well, it might be actually a different one than what you're thinking. Not oceans, which I love oceans. But this one's Hosanna. And I just. Oh, yeah.
A
Have I heard this one? I've had to.
B
Yeah, it hits me.
A
Text me that one too.
B
But I will. Because what I like about this one, it. It gives me. I. I listen to it. I listen with Teo. I listen a few times in the morning or anytime I'm feeling down or anytime I just need to feel God in me and, like, be like, okay, I'm good. But one of the parts that always makes me feel. If I'm ever feeling like I'm losing hope of what this world is, there's a part she sings in that says, I see a generation rising up to take their place with selfless faith. And, I mean, when you hear all the lyrics of it, you just. You feel hope and you feel God and you feel Jesus. And I just caught that song. I never, I don't think, go one day without listening to.
A
Oh. Oh, yeah.
B
It's what you're gonna start to see.
A
Finding new things out about you. Everything.
B
I mean, this one will hit me to. I. I get. I can at times get visions, really.
A
Oh, text it to me. I want to hear it. I'm sure I've heard it. Yeah.
B
Bri. It's one of my. One of my favorites ever. Hosanna. But it has to be the Hillsong version. And not only the ones voice, but he's. It's. It's the lyrics that hit me, and it just. You know what it is? You feel like you're in God's arms when you listen. You feel like, okay, this is. Okay, now, I. I know the people that are coming are. They're good, and these people are good, and we're all. We just got to be here in this place, and we're good.
A
That's beautiful. Okay, so I need to listen to that. So on my way to pick up the kids, Ariana Grande Hillstone. Yeah, I'm just going to be bawling my ass out. I don't know that one. Okay. Yeah, text that.
B
I'll text it to you.
A
Well, my last one, I don't think you'll be surprised by. It was actually hard to pick what song, because I've always been obsessed with the Beatles. John Lennon, especially. And I was thinking, like, do I do a John Lennon song? But Then I go, I went to the Beatles and I was like, ooh, do I do one of the songs that makes me think of where I want, you know, everyone to be today. And then I thought, you know what? No, I got to do the one where I sing with my kids all the time, especially Birdie.
B
And Birdie's such the beast.
A
She is the Beatles. And she actually was singing it the other morning. It's so cute. But the Beatles, I want to hold your hand. And Birdie sings it. So cute. But it's a song I. We always sing as a family, even Brian included. And we've all, like, danced a million times in our kitchen to this song. And I was like, so that always makes me think of the kids. I love that. And, like, they just.
B
What, by the way, what else does make you. I want to hold your hand. Think of.
A
That weirdo who was hitting on you that one New Year's.
B
I mean, what grade were we in, now that we think about it?
A
I mean, when you think about it, he was a pedo.
B
Yeah.
A
Yeah.
B
And how he dedicated. You were on the dj, Remember? He was a vjooqic. Oh, my God. On the radio station. He dedicated it to me. Remember he had me tune in.
A
I don't remember that, but I must have wanted to block it all out. Yeah, you were good, but that does not make me think of that.
B
And by the way, real quick, read those last. That's from Hosanna. But, like, do you see the impact? You could read out loud if you want.
A
Heal my heart and make it clean Open my eyes to the things unseen show me how to love like you have loved me Break my heart for what breaks yours Everything I am for your kingdoms Cuz as I walk from earth into eternity Hosanna is.
B
And even on, like, top. But. Yeah. Yeah, right. It hit. Those words will hit you hard.
A
Yeah.
B
Especially how it's sunk. I know you. That's really funny. You don't remember when he dedicated that to me?
A
I don't at all. But, like, there's a lot of stuff that I feel like, you know, this is the thing. It's like there's times, even through our.
B
Music, you could tell that, like, I had a lot of trauma. Even you did not.
A
I mean, I definitely had my trauma. I just think it was different. I know.
B
Sometimes I feel like we're identical twins. Yeah. We were raised the same, but we had very different experiences growing up.
A
Different experiences. Like, we both went through, like. Like different traumatic things.
B
Yeah.
A
But we almost, like, took Them in differently.
B
Yeah.
A
Like how we processed it, then how we let it go. Yeah.
B
Like, I feel like you seem like you came from a family with, like a picket wide fence, and I came from, like, the most broken home.
A
You think I did.
B
But like, you might be the only.
A
Person in the world who thinks that.
B
But by the way, it's a compliment.
A
I know it's a compliment.
B
Just, you were stronger, younger than me.
A
Yeah. You know, maybe I actually didn't give a. At a young age here I thought it was like my 40s, but I actually think I really started.
B
You were always fourth grade. Yeah.
A
Yeah.
B
And then you held grudges.
A
No shits. Given Brie.
B
You always had boundaries.
A
Major boundaries.
B
Yeah. Yeah, big time.
A
Took a lot to get in my inner circle.
B
It did. That's why it was small.
A
Oh, like very small.
B
Yeah.
A
I was like. Did not have a lot of friends. I mean, I had, like, friends, but, like, when it came to people I actually hung out with and really got deep with one.
B
Yeah.
A
Maybe no. 4.
B
I mean, it's so weird that I would never see you at lunch at high school, when you think about it.
A
Yeah. I was always with the skaters and theater kids. Yeah.
B
And I was the jocks. But it's not weird like, how we are now. It's weird to think, like, we didn't hang out at lunch ever.
A
You'd be under the Ramada and I would be out at the trees or.
B
Like sneaking, like in someone's trunk. Sneaking off campus for lunch.
A
I know. Or I was always at the snack room too, in car care.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
I'm like, I'll take some chili cheese fritos and a Dr. Pepper.
B
That was like my lunch cookies.
A
I'm like, holy moly. I mean, you would have thought that these would have been like, maybe you need some protein. Yeah. He was like, if you're gonna pay me this salary, I'm gonna make sure your kids eat for lunch.
B
He was just profiting because I.
A
Once he opened up the snack bar, I never went into the cafeteria ever.
B
Yeah.
A
But by the way, in there, it was like moldy ass pizza and some. I hated the smell.
B
Oh, I hated the smell. It was fake cheese. I walk.
A
I would walk in there. I'm like, I can't eat anything in here. Disgusting.
B
Gross. All right, everyone. I feel like Brie and I talk a lot about confidence on the Nick and Brie show. How that truly comes within. But I do gotta say, especially being on TV every week, a good bra always helps with confidence.

And I always bec known as the girl that didn't wear bras is I always hated how you could see it, how you would get that kind of side, you know, the lumps. It wasn't complimentary, I should say. So I have to say I've been loving the no Side Effects bra because there's nothing better than wearing a bra. But everything looks really smooth.
A
That's right, Nikki, and you can only get that with Warners. Warners, welcome to a better bra experience. It's all you need.

Okay, so you wanted to bring it back, right, Bri?
A
I wanted to bring it back.
B
Okay, so you want to do, like, 90s bring it back.
A
So.
B
Yes.
A
Okay, I want to do. So this is the thing. I feel like on social media, I see all the time people doing. And maybe it's because of me and my algorithm. Right. A lot of reels about the 90s.
B
Totally.
A
And it makes me, like, get sentimental.
B
I'm like, I miss it because it was. Was so. Like, even though things felt so chaotic, they're not, like, now.
A
I know. Like, I was showing the kids this one, like, where it shows like, we're the last generation who got a childhood without social media.
B
I know.
A
And I almost was, like, tearing up, and I'm showing the kids, and they're looking at it, and they're looking at me, and I'm looking at them.
B
So simple.
A
And I was like, damn. Like, you know? And they didn't. They were like, oh, cool.
B
Like, whatever. There just wasn't so much access to, like, movies, technology, just to all. So you just had to go outside and play and figure it out. And so everyone was outside playing, like, neighborhoods, really. You felt them. Like there was just something to them, because not everyone's just inside on their computers or playing video games or whatever. People were literally out and about for sure. Life just felt, I don't know, full.
A
It did. Really did.
B
Yeah.
A
But I thought, what? Five things.
B
Yeah.
A
Would you like to bring back from the 90s? Five.
B
Okay. So, like, I had. This was the.
A
Where I was, by the way, this is what I was giving her for in the beginning of the episode that she was not prepared for.
B
No. But then I quickly Googled to see.
A
She was Googling right from the front of my face.
B
Yeah. So all of a sudden, when it brought up stuff, I go, oh, my gosh. So first thing, Pogs.
A
You really want to bring back pogs?
B
Dude, I crush it at recess with pogs. My Tasmanian Devil slammer.
A
Boom.
B
I was flipping things left and right.
A
Oh, my gosh. See, my number one thing I would love to bring.
B
Well, I didn't say it was my.
A
Number one or not number one.
B
Whatever.
A
First thing that came to my head. 90210.
B
Isn't it back?
A
No, like, legit. Give me a shot.
B
You weren't even allowed to watch it.
A
We snuck it all the time. That show made me realize who I wanted to be. Like, everything.
B
I mean, trust me, I wrote Luke Perry like, all right. And never got a response until, you know, then when I saw him, though, at the Staples center, that was pretty amazing.
A
And how excited would we get? Like, because you only. You got that one day a week when, you know, it just. There's something about 902. And I'll even save by the bell. Like, oh, yeah, I'm sorry.
B
Like.
A
And I know people argue with me, like, no, they do make shows like that to this day. Maybe they do. I just. I guess I don't feel it the way I felt.
B
Those shows. I agree. They're not the same Blockbuster that was.
A
Number two for me. Okay.
B
But mine aren't in orders. Blockbuster might be my number one.
A
I miss Blockbuster.
B
Blockbuster.
A
I would do anything to take my kids after school on Friday.
B
I know. Just pick a tree.
A
Yes. And when you get to the end, even though they're not the treats, I.
B
Like, if you weren't there on time, like, on a Friday, like, you weren't going to get, like, the new releases, you know, like, there was a thing to it where it just. When you got that new release and there was that one left, it really meant something.
A
But do you remember you get excited for a movie, and then there wouldn't be one, and you'd go up and ask if someone returned it.
B
Yeah. And they'd like. And they're like, the pervs walk in at 18 and over and you staring at.
A
Push your sister in there. Oh, yeah. Like, you.
B
This one, I was like, oh, my gosh. When it came up, watching TGIF every Friday night, that was, like, us all the time.
A
So kind of what I wrote was, like, 90s movies. I literally was thinking, I'm, like, one of my favorite movies of all times. 10 things I hate about you.
B
Like, I mean, think that always will remind me of my double knee surgery. Because that movie just came out, and then Nan and Pop up and mom and dad were like, well, what can we get you as a gift, you know, for. Because of my surgery. And I asked for the 10 things I hate about UCD. Yeah. So when I was, like, laying on my back, I just. Listen. Oh, my God, stop.
A
That's when I, like, grew a major, like, big crush on Heath Ledger. But, like, think of, like, so hot from the 90s, you've got male, she's all that Ghost, Home Alone, Pretty Woman, Back to the Future, Kindergarten Cop, Edward Scissorhands.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Beat those movies. And the list goes on the list. There's so many more I'm not saying right now.
B
Yeah. Your breakfast Club. All those.
A
I mean it. Pretty in pink. No, that's 80s. That's 80s.
B
Mall wrap.
A
Breakfast club is 80s too. What about kids? Kids, I think was 90s. That was clueless.
B
Was one of my ultimate faves ever.
A
Ever.
B
So, I mean, I still will never forget the monologue I did in theater class.
A
Yeah.
B
And I just remember Dusty looking at me like, remember we did this from Jawbreakers?
A
Remember Jawbreakers?
B
And I licked the knife with the barbecue sauce on it. And she's like, I think that girl has issue.
A
Yeah. But this is my thing is like.
B
Okay, movies are great today, but I've seen, like, them. No 80s. 80s crushed with movies. 80s crushed 80s and 90s.
A
Especially when it came to rom coms.
B
We.
A
Why don't we do wrong with the things like it. I know they get.
B
It's weird and people look. It's just not the same.
A
And it's like, very tragic. It's almost like Disney movies. Like a parent dies in the beginning or something. There's always now with rom coms. They're sad. I'm crying because I'm sad.
B
Except when it's like Grease Witherspoon or Jennifer Aniston.
A
But they haven't done one forever.
B
I know.
A
Name the last one.
B
Like, they're always my favorite rom coms. And then if I know Vince Vaughn or Luke Wilson are doing.
A
But they don't do them anymore.
B
I know. By the way, I would have thought you wanted this one back. Beanie Babies. Brie had the craziest collection.
A
The craziest collection. And guess what? I don't miss it at all.
B
I know you don't.
A
Do not.
B
But imagine what they'd be worth. Okay. You know what else I miss? When you were like, at a certain point of a teenager on the teenage line. And then when you do your answer machine, like, you get Record your own, like, you've reached Briana Nicole. Leave a message. And we'd be like, blasting a song and we'd always.
A
Our first one is we blast. No doubt. Yeah.
B
Oh, Spider went home.
A
Right now I'm walking in my Spider.
B
Which I was like, kind of creative of us. It was.
A
But my last.
B
That is like, so fun.
A
So it was the best. I mean, I kind of see like on Instagram, people are bringing it back.
B
Yeah.
A
The like, home lines. And that's the way your kid can communicate. Which I think there's something cool. And honestly, if they got the answer machine, they would love it to hear.
B
Their friends leave a message. And you, like, press the button or it Would be so fun when you would come, like, whatever your soccer practice, whatever you're doing, when you come home and you see the red light blinking. Oh, my gosh.
A
Boom. Yeah.
B
You couldn't wait.
A
When, like, sales calls start again, you're like, erase. Yeah, I know.
B
So good.
A
So this last one, which I know we have access to, but I. This is the feeling I miss before. Like, the cell phone for you, the disposable camera, but.
B
Oh, yeah, I get it.
A
You can go to the store and buy one on. I mean, the feeling of we never.
B
We never got to take a selfie.
A
Or take a photo and look.
B
Yeah.
A
It was always a surprise. I miss that. And trust me, a lot of times they were like shitty photos. But overall, it was like, there was. You needed patience. We were taught patience. You took your photos.
B
Yeah.
A
Then whenever you had time to go drop it, then you had to wait till they were done. Then you had to go back and pick them up.
B
And also, it was. And there was no filters. There was no. Like, sometimes. Yeah, you didn't look the greatest in photo, but you were never hard on yourself about it.
A
No, but it was always a moment.
B
It was a moment no one ever.
A
Because you couldn't take 10.
B
Yeah.
A
So it was a moment. You got that one because you only got, like, what, 21. That's it. Photos at all.
B
Kodak moments.
A
Yeah.
B
Mine. The last one I want to do is milky pens. Do you remember? You would get the thing. You know it. Because you and I would get a bunch of. Hold on. It was the first of the milky pens and. Because you and I would always be drawing on.
A
But they have, like, now. Right?
B
Yeah, but it's Birdie from when we had. Whatever. By the way, Butterfinger BBs. Do you remember Butterfinger BB's just awful for us. Yeah. But Furbies.
A
And let's be honest, what we miss.
B
The most about the 90s, flicking through the book fair. You know, when you get the magazines. Also briar patches. I don't know if they do that stuff still.
A
I think we just missed from the 90s, the simplicity of, like, not keeping up.
B
Right. Yeah.
A
That was, like, the great part about it.
B
The great part. Oh.
A
All right, everyone. I think it would be fun if you sat with your friends and your family and you guys wrote your mixtape and, like, shared with everyone. Actually pop open a bottle wine and do this. Yeah. And then say, like, the things you missed from the ninet. It'd be. It's like, fun to do.
B
Totally fun to do.
A
Yeah. I'm gonna do it with Brian.
B
Be like, so, Brian, what do you miss?
A
Yeah, actually, I would be curious what he would miss from the 90s.
B
Yeah.
A
Besides Meg Ryan and her prime. That was, like, his big crush. Oh, sleep is in Seattle. Gosh, what else? I can't remember all, but. Okay, Nicole. Well, this has been fun.
B
This is fun. Yeah.
A
Taking it way back, you know?
B
All right, Brie, so it's time for some inspiration, affirmation. And I feel like we got to continue with the nineties, right? We do. And there's actually so many that I could do.
A
I mean, for sure. Like, talk to the hand.
B
Yeah. Or you got it, dude. Or as if Michelle Tanner. So it's kind of hard. Do I go, Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
A
We can do it. Better be inspiring. What he says he actually had a.
B
Lot of inspiring moments.
A
I do feel like he did.
B
I. Mateo and I were watching that the other day, by the way.
A
It's a funny show.
B
It's amazing.
A
They nail it.
B
They do. I love it so much.
A
And he was always really great with the uncle.
B
Yeah. The only limit is the one you set yourself. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
A
There you go.
B
You know what I mean?
A
I like that.
B
I like it.
A
That's good. It's true. It is so true.
B
True.
A
You know, a lot of times when I feel like I've sat back and I've been like, this isn't fair. I'm. This isn't happening. All these. It's like you kind of put yourself there.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Like, you're the one who, like, you can, like, 1. Get out of the negativity, but you put your roadblocks up. Oh, yeah, Just move them.
B
Move them. And we could listen like TLC in the 90s. No scrubs.
A
That's your motto.
B
Don't. Yeah, don't want no scrubs. I'll take that 90s quote in with me now.
A
No comment. No, no comment.

A
That's Home Alone. Oh, right.
B
Filthy animal.
A
Yeah, you're filthy Animal. How you doing?
B
Which shows that how you.
A
No, but that's from the Joey guy. That's still 90s.
B
Okay. Yeah, okay. Filthy animal.
A
Yeah, the animal. Remember, he played it to the robbers? I don't know. Bye, everyone.
B
Bye. I've never felt like this before. It's like you just get me. I feel like my true self with you.
A
