I sat down with Jill Palmquist, the Chief Storytelling Officer at Life Time (yes, the big wellness brand you’ve definitely heard of—or passed by at the mall), and we got into everything from longevity and blood testing to belonging and why storytelling might just be the most underrated wellness strategy.

From the Front Desk to This Full Circle Moment

I used to work at a Life Time location here in Minnesota over 10 years ago. Back then, I was at the front desk swiping cards and figuring out what direction I wanted my life to go.

Now, I’m running a podcast about optimizing your life and talking to the chief storyteller of one of the biggest health brands in the country. Life is weird. And very full circle.

What’s wild is how much Life Time has grown since then—and how intentional that growth has been. Jill’s job is to shape and share the brand’s story, and it’s way more than just words on a screen. It’s culture-building. And she’s really good at it.

Wellness Meets Tech Meets Soul

We talked a lot about how Life Time is evolving—not just keeping up with trends, but leading the conversation around longevity and personalized health. Think:

* On-site Miora Clinics for DNA, hormone, and blood biomarker testing

* AI-powered massages (yes, robots are giving massages now)

* Cryotherapy, red light therapy, infrared saunas—literally my dream lineup

* Their own supplement line that’s actually high quality (third-party tested)

This is the kind of stuff I geek out over—data-backed health optimization that’s actually accessible in a real-life space, not just something you read about on Reddit.

Jill put it perfectly:

“You can get the data—but we want someone there to help you understand it and walk you through it.”

Yes. That part. It’s not just about tracking. It’s about integrating.

Community Is the Real Wellness Hack

Here’s where it gets deeper. Jill talked about how people walk into Life Time and immediately feel better. And I’ve felt that too—there’s something about the energy in the space, especially at the bigger clubs, that’s just… alive.

We’re all so isolated these days. And I know for me, wellness is so much harder when I’m trying to do everything alone.

That’s what I love about how Life Time is positioning itself. It’s not just a gym. It’s a third place. A place where you see the same faces, join a class, meet a new friend, or just feel less like you’re floating through life solo.

“People don’t just work out here—they belong,” Jill said.

That line stuck with me.

Storytelling Isn’t Just for Marketing—It’s Medicine

Jill’s role as Chief Storytelling Officer is probably one of the coolest job titles I’ve ever heard. And when she explained it, I realized it’s exactly what I’ve been trying to do too—with this podcast, with my YouTube, with Notion, with clients.

She’s also the author of In This Lifetime, a beautiful coffee table book that captures what it means to live a full life—told through members’ stories from childhood to old age. It’s emotional. It’s smart. And it doesn’t feel like marketing. It feels human.

Honestly? I want to do more of that in my work too.

How to Actually Start Living Well (Without Burning Out)

We wrapped the episode by talking about how small choices can shift everything. If you’re feeling stuck in your health, Jill said: just move your body for two minutes. Drink water. Step outside and look up at the sky. That’s where the shift starts.

She also talked about her own health journey—like me, she went through a lot of years chasing “perfect” and now focuses on consistency, nourishment, and joy.

That resonates so much. Especially for those of us managing ADHD, neurodivergence, or just decision fatigue.
