Sebastian Maniscalco
Pete and Sebastian show here I don't know where to start. I don't know where to begin.
Pete Corelli
Vegas, baby. Working with you last night for a while, man. I've been loving it, bro. It's fun. Thank you for having me. What?
Sebastian Maniscalco
What, are you leaving tomorrow?
Pete Corelli
I'm leaving tomorrow. You are as well, right? You get that big interview.
Sebastian Maniscalco
The big interview tomorrow. I want to ask you, if you had to ask Lionel Richie anything, what would you ask him? Any. Anything come to mind, off the top of your head?
Pete Corelli
Yeah. What would instantly come to my mind? Two things. But I don't know if he's heavily discussed these things already because I don't, like, follow his personal. Like all of his interviews, by the way, for the listeners. Sebastian is interviewing Lionel Richie tomorrow in Las Vegas, I think. I don't want to overstate, but he won some big award, I think.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Is that what's going on? No, he's got a. He's got a book coming out.
Pete Corelli
Oh, a book coming. Jane Paulied it, man. You did the homework. I mean, even on the road, I caught up with you. You were reading in the hotel room. You were telling me and whatnot.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I just. I finished the entire book. This is the first book I think I've actually read front to back, maybe three years. I mean, I've listened to books, but never really actually read the book. And I got to tell you something. What I've noticed. I don't know if you've noticed this, but you're more of an avid reader than I am. But I am able to gather my thoughts in a manner that I haven't seen since I was 21. And I'm attributing it to the reading.
Pete Corelli
You're probably right. It's making a potsy brain work that haven't worked in a long time because we don't really have to read. So. That's great, man. That's fantastic. I'm currently reading the Outsiders because Sadie's reading it, so I'm rereading it. Holy shit. It's the most boring, depressing, not boring, but depressing book ever. But I want to ask you, this is great that you read the Lionel Richie. The two questions I would have, and I want you to tell me if they've been heavily discussed in the book. Is first breaking up with the Commodores. I can only imagine it was his choice because he's. He was such a major talent and we all know how hard it is to break up with a girl on a manager, an agent, anything. So was it like, did you. Was there a woman in your life that you were like, for fucking a month, three months, she's like, just do it already, Lionel. You know, and like, what was that? I mean, how did. And how did you. Did they see it coming? Like, there's just so many levels. And then the second thing is, what's it like when your daughter becomes famous? Because Nicole for a while was so famous. I just don't know how I'd feel if my daughter was famous. That would be a weird feeling, man. You know?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah. So he covers both of those topics in the book. The Commodore breakup was kind of the. It was writing on the wall, I guess Lionel was writing a lot of music, and it kind of became, even in the press, as like, you know, Lionel Richie and the Commodores. I mean, it was a guy who was outshining the rest of his bandmates, and they were like, you know, when they would interview him. Sorry. When they would interview the band, a lot of the questions would be directed to. Towards Lionel Richie and not the other members of the band. So what he would do is he would show up late to the interview so they could ask the guys the questions.
Pete Corelli
Oh, that's nice.
Sebastian Maniscalco
And then he would sit in 30 minutes later. But then the band was. Took that as. What do you think? You are too important to come down here on time.
Pete Corelli
Oh, wow, that's fascinating. We can't win, dude.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah, couldn't win. So, yeah, I mean, he went on his own way. I mean, this guy, the writing he wrote. I don't know if you know this. I'm just spitting on some information. Not only because I want the audience and you to know it, but I'm also just doing this because I need to know this stuff for tomorrow.
Pete Corelli
You're bragging, too, but it's okay, because we all do it. When we read a book, we want to share the information. Because I read the fucking thing, so I'm telling somebody.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Well, you know. You know what I have a hard time doing is. And I've always had this reading and comprehension and, like, actually reading something and then able to share with people in my own words what I read.
Pete Corelli
You're getting good at it.
Sebastian Maniscalco
And at this age, at 52, I'm trying to. I'm like, did. Did I read that or did I make that up? I. There's a. There's a. A song that he sings called Ballerina Girl.
Pete Corelli
Oh, love it.
Sebastian Maniscalco
And Ballerina Girl.
Pete Corelli
You also.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah, I like the way he sings it better.
Pete Corelli
All right. That's all right. I'm just.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I.
Pete Corelli
Again, like, you have proven you read the book. I was proven that. I know.
Sebastian Maniscalco
So I know. I know. Constantly bragging, both of us. You know what? And also, too, by reading this book, I have a deeper appreciation for lyrics and the story behind the song, which I never really put together.
Pete Corelli
So great, dude. And Billie Jean is a great one. Talk about great lyrics.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah, this. This Ballerina Girl he wrote while watching his daughter Nicole in ballerina class. And. And maybe I'm new to the whole music thing after 52 years, and this is how you're supposed to appreciate music. But in listening to that song. I went to gymnastics practice yesterday with Serafina, and as I'm looking at her in gymnastics, the song might as well been Gymnastics Girl.
Pete Corelli
That's what it's supposed to do. You pull in parts of the song.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Go ahead.
Pete Corelli
I want to cut you off.
Sebastian Maniscalco
You're in a moment. But what I want to ask him is Ballerina Girl. It just sounds like it's a song, right? If she was playing basketball or softball or gymnastics or whatever, it just don't sound right. Like softball girl.
Pete Corelli
It only works with ballerina because. So beautiful.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Ballerina.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Ballerina Girl. It just. It just goes. Yeah, that's the song. You know, it's not like volleyball girl. He wasn't, wasn't. Wasn't sitting in the stands after his daughter had a spike and go, oh, my God, she's the apple of my eye. No.
Pete Corelli
But, hey, can you imagine that? Like, yeah, man. The whole thing is pretty. Right? That's why the song came to him. Like, this is just all so pretty. It's dancing on your toes.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah. So, you know, there's just moments throughout the book where I found, you know, with songwriting that was just fascinating. He couldn't come up with the hook to All Night Long. He's like, what? Is. Was one of the first songs. He didn't have the kind of, like, the hook of the song. He always have the hook and right around it. This one, he didn't have it. So he went to a party, and he had to leave the party. And he's like. The guy's like, where are you going now? I got to go to work. I got to get back to work and write this song. He's like, oh, come on, stay. And I gotta go. He goes, what are you gonna be doing working all night long? The guy said that, and then it clicked. That's the. That's the name of this song that I'm working on. So these, like, little stories of, like, how these songs came to be I found really interesting.
Pete Corelli
And then didn't he overhear, if I'm not mistaken, someone saying we would. We were dancing on the ceiling. Like he was in the elevator or something. And. And people said, oh, man, it was a crazy party. We were dancing on the ceiling.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I could have read that and not retained it, but that doesn't sound familiar. But, yeah, what I want to ask him, for example, this guy was 19 years old. The whole Commodore band went to New York City. They parked the car and they went into, like, a record label. They came out, all their instruments were stolen. Every instrument out of the car. So they're without instruments. And I guess they talked to a police officer that somebody stole out instruments. He goes, well, just hang out on the corner here within a two or three block radius, split up, hang out on the corner. Just hang out and you'll. You'll find your instruments. Sure enough, people guy would come by, hey, you want a drum set? And they were like, yeah. So they bought their instruments back from the criminals.
Pete Corelli
Oh, my God.
Sebastian Maniscalco
They were just selling them around the area that they stole it at. So stories like that, they open up for the Jackson 5. Yeah. Blood, sweat and tears. I would equate it to a comedian doing open mic nights in a laundromat. So you kind of get your skin thick. And he's now a judge on American Idol. So what I want to ask him is all the stuff that you went through, Commodores on the road, going back to Alabama, going to school, while you were at the. Doing the Commodores, playing these rooms, and every.
Pete Corelli
Everything you mentioned, I'm like, there's another page you read. There's another page you read. Like, he's gonna like that. Lionel's gonna like that. You did that.
Sebastian Maniscalco
All right.
Pete Corelli

Sebastian Maniscalco
What's your take on this? Let me skip off this story. Once a. It's a sit down on stage where we perform at the Thursday night. So it's two chairs, right? Do I bring out the book and do I put little colored post its in and go in the book? Do I read a passage from the book on stage or would you suggest me bringing up like notes? What's, what's your take?
Pete Corelli
That's interesting because when I was trying to do that with Sinatra, you, you go, oh, I, I, I don't like it when some, I'm not gonna try to do. You go, I don't like it when somebody goes to tell me about like go to a book and you're flipping through, wants to see you flipping through. You would tell them put the book down.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah, but you didn't have it ready. I got it ready. I, boom, I got it ready. Like you say here in chapter six you wrote ballerina girl. And you said, you know, to put.
Pete Corelli
Read. You know you don't do read as yet.
Sebastian Maniscalco
That's right. No, no, no.
Pete Corelli
Well, I don't know how much time you have. Do you have enough time? One hour? No, I'm saying before the interview to like, to like take, go to read it and then say in chapter six of page 19, you say this Mike. And then it just plays because you read it. You came in early and read it. You know what I'm saying?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Listen, I ain't doing audio cues on this thing, all right?
Pete Corelli
Instead you're gonna flip through like a librarian. I remember there's a great fucking Walt Whitman poem in here somewhere. Get the fuck out of here. Just go by memory. You got it?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Okay, that's what I'm gonna do. I was thinking I was just gonna go out there, but some reference of I gotta have just like a little sheet of paper, if a note card.
Pete Corelli
Like what you just say like all night long and then you say American Idol judge. And you know, and you know what you're asking off of that, you know, and I think you should add you where you're like, he's here. And you go like what you said about Alabama going to, you're looking at the crowd going to school and working with the Commodores and going back to Alabama, then back at like. So you're like entertaining them and showing him. And then, and then you come back to him with what you were going to ask me, by the way. What, which was what? What you're going to say that you want.
Sebastian Maniscalco
What I'm saying is now he's the judge on American Idol. And basically, these kids are like. They went from singing in their room, and now they're on American Idol, national tv. Like, literally, you go for. There wasn't no avenue back then where you go from the Commodores singing in their basement to the Ed Sullivan Show. It was like there was, like a process to get to. Onto the Sullivan Show. Now it's like, you know, Timmy from, you know, Mississippi was in his kitchen singing. His mother said, you got a great voice. Now he's on American Idol talking to Lionel Richie. I want to go. You don't. You don't just get to talk to you. It took me 52 years to get to talk to you, bro.
Pete Corelli
It's so funny you say that because I hear Stirred, man. That is so funny, because I was listening to Stern the other day, the car. I'm like, if I ever got on there because I hear the people come in, they're like, hi, Nice to me. As I'm coming in, you'd hear off the mic, you'd hear me going, fucking finally. Are you fucking kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me? Jesus, I thought you were going to die before I got here. Holy shit. But waiting since I was goddamn 11 years old in my. In my bedroom with my brother, listening to him on ABC to get it today, you know, now you can, like you said, make a video in your basement. And there he is back when he was a judge. Do they even. Do these contestants so even revere Lionel Richie the way we do? Like, do they even. I don't even think because they get famous instantly that they don't even appreciate the stars, the iconic super music stars that created all this backlog of, you know, it's like Sadie, like, I'm trying to get her to understand the Sinatra. And these people, they're like, these are gods, man. Lionel Richie is one of the greatest singer songwriters that ever lived. Dude, remember the one. It's like, what? I can't believe the song was so good. I was forgiven of the video. When he's just stalking that blind lady singing, hello, all. Hello. Is it me? You're making fun of her because she can't see. Is it me? You're looking for those videos back then. Remember they. How awesome they were? Wow. That's awesome, dude.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I never looked at it as he was making fun of the blind lady.
Pete Corelli
Well, I mean, it's like a. You know, and she was pretty hot. I remember thinking, like, if she could see, I don't even know she'd stay with you, bro.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah. She was making a bust of him during that video. It was like, wasn't she making a.
Pete Corelli
I don't remember it that well.
Sebastian Maniscalco
And then they turned the bust around. It didn't even look like. If you could pull up the Lionel Richie bust in hello. The video. Just to see what this thing looked like. Because in the vid. In the. In the book, he says people ask him all the time, did you save the bust? And he said, no, the bust is not. He said it didn't even. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, bro, look at this. Look at this thing. This looks like a black Lou Ferrigno.
Pete Corelli
Oh, shit. Look at that. It does, bro.
Sebastian Maniscalco
What the.
Pete Corelli
Holy shit. Gigantic.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Do you think they said we can't make it look too much like him because the woman's blind, or do you think they made that bust to replicate with Lionel Richie? That's a good question to ask him. The bus didn't look like you. Is it was because she was blind or you guys had a fucked up guy doing the busts. That video shoot.
Pete Corelli
Yeah, well, they like, listen, this can't look exactly like Lionel. It would be ridiculous for a blind lady to make it look just like him. So just. You know, I think. I personally think they really went for it, man. I think they think that.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Actually looks like Billy Dee Williams a little bit.
Pete Corelli
I was thinking that too. I was thinking, what's his name from Star Wars?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah, it's a Billy Dee Williams bust. I gotta watch the video before I go there tomorrow just to get a Gl. I don't. I gotta make. I gotta see if he was making fun of the blind girl.
Pete Corelli
Did. I want to know, like, what they like when you. Because he made some good videos, was he into it?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Or when.
Pete Corelli
When he had to meet the video, was he kind of like. He never used to have to do this, you know, Marvin Gaye never made videos. You know, all my heroes never made videos. So. Yeah.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Is. Is music videos the equivalent of, like, getting on social media today?
Pete Corelli
Right, Right.
Sebastian Maniscalco
So is that, like, did they look at it go. I don't want to do a music video. Just like we're kind of doing. Oh, I don't want to. By the way, just for the listeners, what Pete is doing, and I've never seen this before. It's. It's the complete antithesis of social media. Pete will take video of what we're doing and he won't post it, but it's. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Like, we're at dinner the other night and he's like, we're at an amazing dinner, but I ain't even gonna show you the dinner. Like, you had it. Imagine what the hell it looked like. Yeah, yeah, but you never post it, which is just like. You must have a folder of no posts.
Pete Corelli
Oh, I got a lot of them. It's. You know what it is? I look at it like fishing. You know what I mean? Wanna go fish? Let's go fishing. Ah, no bites. Like, we tried. Like we did one together where we walked in the room and we've kind of bailed on it. It's like, I don't know, man. Then I post one yesterday that as soon as I posted on, like, am I not supposed to show this side of me? Whatever. It's who I am? I don't even know. Just all that time just go. It's more important than stand up. Music videos were more important than the damn song, man. It was like, you could have a shit song, but you have a great idea for the video and that was like, that was huge.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I know, I know. So, yeah, that's a great question to ask him about music videos. If he actually looked forward to doing them or just another just a hassle.

Pete and Jackie are coming out to Las Vegas. So is Lana and our kids. Awesome. So we are going to be reunited back in Las Vegas. Last time we saw Jackie was in New York City, I believe at the Garden. So we're looking forward to that. We are too, man. So let's talk about first of all something I really enjoy talking about on the cast. And we really haven't talked much about it because I don't know if we just forgot about it, but any Pete Corieli airport airplane stories. Actually, you've been driving to the gigs.
Pete Corelli
Yeah. Doing a lot of driving.
Sebastian Maniscalco
So five six hour drives. Have you on a drive. What do you. Six hours by yourself. Obviously you're listening to music, but is there anything in your head that popped up where you're like, you know what? I gotta do that. I feel like these times alone in your head, come. Come out with some gems.
Pete Corelli
Well, I mean, you know, I. I gotta. I don't want to sound like a beat down horse, but you kind of did it too. Just before when you're saying about Lionel Richie and how now you just make a video and he's a judge and you're famous and I was doing a lot of thinking about that driving. We got a real problem. And first of all, like last night, Jackie and I are watching. She watches Dancing with the Stars and Steve Irwin. The guy, the guy, remember the animal guy that got stung by the thing and died. You know, his son does all that now.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah.
Pete Corelli
So his son's all shredded, you know, and he's on the Dancing with the Stars and they were interviewing him and they go, do you know after last week's episode, you have the most TikTok followers on the show at 9.2 million. I didn't know that. I didn't. And I'm like, this is, this is out of control. I said to Jackie, I go, what the fuck is going on? Who, who cares? And he's acting like he just, you know, won. Won a lifetime achievement award. Then I'm watching the Emmys and they're like giving a standing ovation for Stephen Colbert because he's mad because his shit. I'm sorry, I don't want to pull you into that. But like, like the love and the narcissism and the social media, it's so out of control. And then on top of that, today I read there's this AI actor or actress now. Did you read about this?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Actually, we just talked about this. I believe it's the same one. I was on the Rob Lowe Literally podcast yesterday and he had said that there's this female AI robot or something that they made up that agents are trying to sign. But it was a joke. Is this the same one?
Pete Corelli
I don't know. Probably is. But I said the other day to. And Patrick, Patrick can probably. I really want Patrick's opinion about this, because he'll know if I sat down and said a story idea to AI for a sitcom and said, write me a pilot, I'll pick it up in the morning at Fresh out of the Oven, you know, would it be as good as. As if I wrote my own pilot about that same thing as hard as I could for a month?
Patrick (Tech/AI Expert)
No, it wouldn't. The general access that people have to. AI is never going to emulate anything with any respect or thorough representation of your voice. Or like, you could say to basic Access, like, write me two Sebastian Maniscalco jokes real quick. And it might sound something kind of like it, but if you want it to really provide a lot of material, you have to give it enough material to train it on. So, like, I have a program that I'm working on now that's analyzing transcripts of all of the episodes of the. Of the cast. And then because it has an understanding of all the words that you guys said over the years, I can then ask it questions and it'll have literal quotes that it can reference when providing a response.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Okay, you know what I just heard?
Pete Corelli
Yeah.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Well, this guy's coming in here, he's doing his thing, and he's like, yeah, I ain't sleeping. I'm up 72 hours. I just found out what he's doing. He's. He's actually coming up with a program that's going to analyze everything we say, and then he's going to start doing the podcast without us. He's going to start putting the Pete Sebastian show, based out 785 episodes. We did.
Pete Corelli
By the way. Did he not. He sounded AI, didn't he? And then what?
Sebastian Maniscalco
You will.
Pete Corelli
Unlike his. Look over. Is he even there? Did you see him? Is he behind the glass? I don't know what's going on with that. I mean, if AI could already do your personality, Patrick, I'll tell you that much, because it's just not laying. And Patrick, you told me that AI is learning so quickly that things it can't do, it will be able to do before you know it. So, you know, for anyone who doesn't think this shit's going to get authentic, I feel like it's going to. And I just don't know what any of us are doing. What, do I want to write a book about my life? That's what I thought would be funny. But, like, I'll just say it. It's over, bro.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Anyway, I think it's a helpful tool. I don't know if it's Ever going to. Who knows, man? In five years. Well, here, you know, we were talking about this. Who the hell was I talking about this to? My buddy Freddie yesterday. I was asking him, like, where is entertainment going? Do you think stand up comedy is going to be as popular as it is today, five years from now? And my answer to him was, you know, all these podcasts seem to be very. Everybody's got a podcast. I'm always thinking, like, what's the next iteration of the podcast? And probably Patrick could speak to this more than we can because he's piped in with technology and entertainment on that. On that front. Yeah, yeah. So there's this guy, you probably don't know him. His name is Kai Sanat. He's A black kid, 21 years old, does streaming. He's a streamer. And there's also a guy by the name of Ishowspeed, who's another one of these streamers. And apparently this kid's only 20 years old. What is he making, this freaking guy? I think this guy just bought a 400 at least. What's that?
Patrick (Tech/AI Expert)
He's got to be making 100 million.
Sebastian Maniscalco
100 million a year. This guy's making 20 years old. Streaming. Live streaming, yeah.
Pete Corelli
Streaming what?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Basically he does the. Like, he'll have a car in the street, right? He'll be in the street, have a car come at him at whatever, 40 miles an hour, and he'll jump and the car goes under him. Like, he'll time the. So he does these, like, I think he just did a skydiving. He just fell out of an airplane. The other kid, Sanat, does this streaming where he bring in, like, he just brought in LeBron James last night to cut his hair. He's got dreadlocks. So it's just this streaming. It'd be like you hanging out with Jackie and putting a camera in the corner of your living room and they just capture you living. It's like almost reality tv, I guess, moved to the Internet, slightly scripted. Kevin Hart just did a thing with Drew Ski. This guy. Did you see this?
Patrick (Tech/AI Expert)
You guys are in the right world. Touring, performing live. Because that is the last thing that AI is going to be able to steal from creative people is a live performance. And live streaming is the way to survive the onslaught of AI generated podcasts that everyone's going to compete with. There's going to be AI in influencers and AI podcasts by the hundreds of thousands in the next three years. And being live, we can literally interact with the audience on the spot. You can see their comments. You can respond. You can have somebody walk in the room unexpected, or you can stand on stage in front of them. Proving that you're human is going to be the most valuable form of entertainment in the future.
Pete Corelli
Loose ends, baby. Loose ends. Tuesdays all patreon channel 8:30 live.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Could you imagine 25 years ago someone saying to you, you're really gonna flourish in 2025 because you have to prove that you're human. What the fuck? Oh, my God, man.
Pete Corelli
Jeez. When you come through the crowd to go on the stage, touch as many hands as you can so they can feel the flesh to prove that you're not silicone.
Sebastian Maniscalco
So, yeah. So anyway, I don't know where it's all going. I just know that to your point, thank God we're dying at just the right time.
Pete Corelli
We are. I'm telling you. The flip side is, AI is gonna cure cancer, so people are gonna live to be 200, you know, but, you know, this is all this fun stuff that you do artistically and creatively and even at home, dyi, all of it. It's gonna be like, guy, why would you do that? It's done. Let's press the button. It's done, right? Driving. I told you my. I told you my great pod thing. That's going to happen with driving. I'm just going to roll you right out of the car into your house.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Pete Corelli
Beautiful. It sounds.
Sebastian Maniscalco
That was a night, I think. Oh, was that the impersonator night? You came up with that. The impersonator night. I got to tell you. The impersonator night. You were on a different frequency that night. I don't know if it was the ganj you had or the gummy you had. Whatever the fuck you had, like a. Like, you were, like, a little loud. Haven't seen you like that in a while.
Pete Corelli
Where was you impersonated?
Sebastian Maniscalco
The impersonator contest in Atlantic City. That night. That night.
Pete Corelli
Oh. Oh, that's because I had a couple of brewskis early at the impersonating contest.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Whatever it was. I think you started earlier than you normally do. It's still backstage. You were doing, like, an impersonation of me, and it was really, like, over the top and out of character for you.
Pete Corelli
Oh.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I had to step back and go, oh, wow, this guy's feeling it tonight. And don't take. Don't look at it. It gets all upset.
Pete Corelli
No, I'm not. I was just thinking about that. I remember that. I remember when I was trying to.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Do that, because I Have to tap dance around these topics, because last time. And we should bring it up here in the cast, because we talked about it in the limousine, because I had mentioned that you went to go tip the Caddy, and I didn't think you were pressing it hard enough, and you got your feathers a little ruffled. So then I started to think, after that, I go, how does Pete and Jackie. When, like, Jackie makes a comment about Pete and it's not, like, in, like, a good light, that's where. Cause you get hot really quick. There's no slow build with you. You just come out of the gate with, are you my friend? I mean, like. Well, that.
Pete Corelli
Yeah, but that. First of all. All right, I got to be careful what I say now, because then you think I'm overly defending myself, but you make fun of me with those kind of things a lot. So it's not like I do that every time. It was. It was like, I did that one because I knew you were going to say that, and I was like. I just knew you were gonna. And I was joking, too. And I was like, I go. I remember. I said, I go, do you ever have my back? I was being funny. I was funny.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I know, but there was another. I want to mention another thing that we didn't talk about. We talked about it in the moment. We didn't talk about after the fact.
Pete Corelli
All right, What?
Sebastian Maniscalco
So we're at dinner in Atlantic City, right? Mm. You started fumbling around. You were sitting next to me, and there was a lot of, like.
Pete Corelli
You.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Know, like, there's a lot of movement coming from you, right? So what the fuck is this guy doing? And you were pulling out money, right?
Pete Corelli
Oh, yeah.
Sebastian Maniscalco
And you wanted to, like, leave the tip, right? Add to the tip or whatever the hell you wanted to do.
Pete Corelli
Yeah. And I told you there's a lot of people there.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I told you. You're early on this, right? You're taking it out. We didn't have dessert or coffee yet, and you were fumbling around. Now, this is a little lesson I'm going to give you. I'm pulling out money. Because the way you're doing it, everybody knows you're pulling out money.
Pete Corelli
So.
Sebastian Maniscalco
What you need to do.
Pete Corelli
You.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Need to go to the bathroom, you need to take your wallet out, and then you need to. Whatever you want to take out, you take out. You put it in your pocket, and then you come back. Well, whatever the fuck it was, there was a lot of commotion. And again and again. You read the Sinatra book. I would ask yourself, would Sinatra Be at the table trying to pull out money. Or would Sinatra just. It's all in one movement. It's almost like he goes to get his glass of wine and money falls. Boom, right there. True. What's your take on taking out money at the table and it being a commotion, bro, I thought you were going to fall off the chair.
Pete Corelli
Well, that I didn't know I was doing. I didn't know I was like, you, you know, you listen, I don't know. Maybe everyone else wasn't paying attention. You're very intuitive of. Of things that other people might not always see. And this is a very different kind of situation because there was what you. There's like, a lot of people at the table. So I'd imagine you're going to leave a generous tip. I wasn't going to try and be some cheese ball that goes and throws that on top of whatever you're putting down. So what I was trying to do before I forgot to do it was just go, hey, can you just add this to the tip, man? Thanks. And then you said, you're too soon. Now my head. I'm like, I'm not too soon because I'm not throwing it down. I'm giving it to you to add to what you're going to throw down to my closest way of being gracious.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I know, but what I did tell you, I ain't paying for this.
Pete Corelli
I know. Even when you're not paying, I do see that you usually go over and.
Sebastian Maniscalco
No, I do give a grease. But that's another thing. I want to talk about the grease job on top of the payment.
Pete Corelli
Right, Right.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Cause I don't know, like, this is why I don't like other people paying, because I don't know what the fuck is going on. I don't know what he's tipping. I don't know what's going on. I don't know what's going on. So I have to, like, overly. I have to overly compensate because I don't know what just happened. You know what I'm saying?
Pete Corelli
Yeah. So. So, so that. So you're in an. In a position you're not used to being in. When I'm out by myself, I know when to tip. I take it out at that point. I had. But, you know, you can't tell me, let's go out, have some fun. And then every little thing I do, I'm being judged on. I won't go out. I won't go out with you guys.
Sebastian Maniscalco
This is just. No, no, no. I'm saying that. How do you think I'm coming up with the content for the show?
Pete Corelli
Well, so you. When you go out and you don't know what to do in a situation where you're not paying, I don't know what to do in a situation where I'm not tipping, but I'm certainly not up and go, oh, I know he gave you a bunch, but here's a little something extra. So that's all I was doing. What do you do? Do you just assume the person paying also tipped or do you assume they didn't tip?
Sebastian Maniscalco
That's what I. That's what I would assume. Right. That's what I would. I would assume. But if that's not the case and I don't tip, the people are going to go, what the. You know, like, no tip.
Pete Corelli
Right, right, right.
Sebastian Maniscalco
So, I mean, the guy that took us out was very gracious. I'm sure he tipped. I'm just saying I have to, like, it's almost as if I am paying for the meal because that's how large the tip has to be.
Pete Corelli
Now, do you. Well, there's a fame.
Sebastian Maniscalco
What's that?
Pete Corelli
There's a fame factor involved in that, too. You can't have them walking around saying, oh, yeah, oh, yeah, when he played the ocean. Yeah, he came in.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, he played the ocean eight shows and he left $25. So we also have to take into account, listen, this is kind of. They stayed open late. They got eight, Eight people there staying past the time that they should to serve us, which is also factored in to the grease job. Right?
Pete Corelli
Yeah.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Wow.
Pete Corelli
Yeah. So, yeah, there's a lot going on.
Sebastian Maniscalco
There's a lot going on. There's a lot going. Sometimes I can't even enjoy the meal because I'm trying to figure out in my head. Okay.
Pete Corelli
And apparently I'm being loud and moving around a lot, too, which is taking away your good time, too. I don't know. You were extra loud. I don't know what was kicking in, what you were doing. These aren't. These aren't things friends say to friends. Oh, listen, isn't gonna give me emails. Go.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Peace. There we go.
Pete Corelli
I'm totally kidding. I really am.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Speaking of, the guy that paid for the dinner is. Is texting me. He was a good guy. Frank, over at Ocean Casino. Solid dude. Solid dude.
Pete Corelli
When you worked in Four Seasons, did that ever happen where you got double tipped because someone did that? They didn't know. And when that happened, did you tell the second tipper that you were already tipped? Or did you just say thank you and take that, too?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Thank you. Because I know he knows that I was already tipped. It's a whole thing, bro. It's a whole thing. Yeah, it's a whole hospitality service thing. If you. If you worked in the business, you kind of know the rules. If you don't, you know, you just. You don't know. So.
Pete Corelli
So with tipping, this is a good one, folks. This is very entertaining. And I'll lead it here, and then you could come in. So the guy we were just talking about, Frank, great guy, took us golfing one morning at a really nice country club in Jersey. Really nice, this guy was. So I didn't have proper. You were going to golf? I didn't have anything. So I brought the shorts I had, which were okay. But then he bought us a couple golf tops, which were nice. They weren't cheap either. This guy's very generous. So it was a wonderful freaking morning of golf. We did, like, nine holes. And again, the host couldn't have been any nicer. So now when we're going back to the hotel, you and I wait. The car is going to take us limousine. Actually, we were joking about that. There's a guy, a golf caddy, who, when you hit your ball, when we were playing the whole nine holes, this guy would be on the back. I'm telling this for the listeners of the golf cart, dressed all in white. And when I'd go to tee off, he'd suggest what, you know, obviously driver in that moment. But whatever time I was gonna hit the ball, what club I should use, how I should swing, and then when I hit the ball. And he did this for Sebastian, Frank, for all of us. When he. When you hit your ball, he would run pretty much as fast as he could to wherever your ball landed and then stand there and wave to you and show you where it is. If it went in the woods, boom. He would dart into the woods just like a deer taking off, man. So, I mean, I felt bad. This guy was, like, gonna have a heart attack. I was running him left and right with all the shanks. Now, at the end of the whole day, which was so fun, right? Still early morning. Frank's got a roll. We're done golfing, I believe. Did you. Did you already. You already tipped somebody, right?
Sebastian Maniscalco
I believe I didn't tip until the end.
Pete Corelli
Yeah, but I'm saying before Frank did. All right, so you tipped. And then I look over and I'm going to say goodbye to the caddy, Kevin So then Frank, the owner, went over and tipped the Caddy. And I was going to say goodbye to the Caddy right after Frank did. And I went over, I had 50 bucks, and I said to you, you think 50 is good? And you go, yeah, 50. You said that a little earlier. If that's what you got, that's cool. So I went over and I did the old. Put it in his palm, and I said, thanks, Kev. Really had a blast. And he went like this. No, I can't, I can't. Frank already tipped me. I've been taken care of. I said, you sure, man? Come on. And he's like, no, no, I really can't. I really can't be. I had a great time here. I hope to see you again. I said, all right, thank you, man. And then I go to get back in the car. And then Sebastian right away goes, well, what you said, you said, I don't feel that you tried to give him the tip enough. And I said, I tried to give it to him twice. And he even implied by saying if Frank gave it to him already, that if it would be rude of him to take it. And Frank was still within eye shot. All of it. Right. So I guess it begs the question for the listeners and for you, too, if you go to give someone money and they say, no, like, when do you stop trying to give them that money? I mean, he had an open palm. If I left it in, it would have dropped to the floor. Then I. Then what? I pick it up and go, come on. No, serious, like, where does it end? How does it end?
Sebastian Maniscalco
It's an attitude towards tipping. It's not how you do it. It's the attitude you have coming in, not you. A person has coming into the tip. Now you give a tip, the person goes, no, I can't accept that. It's not. Come on. It's not like a. Come on. No, take it. It's all in the presentation, what I found throughout my years of tipping. I give somebody a tip and I really want them to have the tip. They need to take this tip. I'm not going in going, I hope you don't take it. I'm not going in with that attitude. I'm not saying you're. I'm not saying you're going in with that attitude, but you have to come in with, I am coming back to the car with less money than I had before.
Pete Corelli
I like.
Sebastian Maniscalco
So you say, you say, here you go, Nah, I can't take that. I said, listen to me. I would Be greatly offended if you did not accept this tip. This is a gift to you. Thank you so much for all your hard work. You deserve it. Nine times out of 10, that person is going to be stunned. And there's no comeback to that. I can't take the tip. So it's not like. No, take it. No, I can't. No, take it. No, I can't. Okay. It's. You deserve it. You were breaking your ass out there. And what I do is I reward people for hard work. God bless you. Back in the car.
Pete Corelli
Listen, you're gonna give a monologue like that, you got to give the guy a hundred dollar bill. I'm gonna. I'm gonna say all that and then go, here's 50. He's gonna go. Give him 145. What am I made out of, guy? Come on.
Sebastian Maniscalco
It's crazy.
Pete Corelli
Yeah. There's a little something for you. I can't take it. Come on. No, seriously, take it. I can't. Goodbye. I'm not gonna sit here and do this dance. I'm trying to give you money. You're not gonna tell you did a great job. You're not Al Capone guy. It's just. It's just, you know, I mean. Okay, the whole tipping thing has gotten a little crazy as it is.
Sebastian Maniscalco
I. I don't think so. I mean, the tipping for like going to a bookstore and they got a guy collected tips for rigging you up for. For a couple of books. Yeah. That's not a tip.
Pete Corelli
That's what. That's what I.
Sebastian Maniscalco
For a guy that just did nine holes that we're not even paying. We're not even paying a dime. This is like entertainment for us. We're not paying anything. Frank's picking it up.
Pete Corelli
Right?
Sebastian Maniscalco
So.
Pete Corelli
Right.
Sebastian Maniscalco
For me, it's like it's a hundred dollars for the entertainment and it's going to go to you, but.
Pete Corelli
And here's another 50 to add to that. You know what?
Sebastian Maniscalco
Okay.
Pete Corelli
I mean, Frank probably already gave him enough for the down payment on a house as it is. Jesus. All right, well, what's a. More of a casual or pedestrian version of. What you're saying is. No, listen, you'd be offended me if you didn't take it. Just take it like that. Right. That sounds a little like. You hear that? You're not necessarily expecting 100. You're still expecting maybe a 50, but you'll take it. All right.
Sebastian Maniscalco
No, I'm just saying it's all in the approach. So if you want to go up there and the approach is the. Is the. Is the key to tipping, in my. In my view, because I've been on the receiving end of a tip, and when people are very, like, demonstrative and very like, you're taking this. I'm like, oh, thanks, man. That's. You know, there's no, like. There's no like argument. It's like, geez, this guy's giving me a tip and he wants to know you're taking it, so.
Pete Corelli
Right.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Yeah. That's the tipping etiquette here on today's. Today's show. Lots more to get into next week in regards to the Atlantic City run. And I think we should talk about. I don't know if I want to. What I sent you last night with my father.
Pete Corelli
Oh, my God. Forgot to. Yeah, why wouldn't we. Can we talk about that right now, or.
Sebastian Maniscalco
No, no, we're going to save. It's this cliffhanger. It's a cliffhanger to keep these people coming back. That was phenomenal for. Well, we'll get it. We'll get into it. Next cast, Pete and Sebastian show. We'll be back next week.
Pete Corelli
Cut and print. That's a wrap. If you want to take out what I was. I really was only kidding when I said a friend wouldn't do that. I don't want to make. I don't want to make you seem like a bad guy because you stopped making fun of me after that.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Well, because I was thinking there was tears coming.
Pete Corelli
Oh, my God. I'm still recording if you are. That could be funny, man, because.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Put it in. Put it in.

“Little Tips for Big Tippers” isn’t just about gratuities; it’s about how you present yourself, whether you show off your cash at dinner or slip it “Sinatra style,” the difference intention makes, and the importance of authenticity—whether you’re on stage, on a podcast, or just handing a tip to a caddy on a Jersey golf course. Through jokes, relatable stories, and a touch of old-school wisdom, Pete and Sebastian dissect what it means to be generous, genuine, and human in a world that’s increasingly digital (and maybe, just a little bit artificial).
