Adam Rippon
Hello everyone and welcome back to Intrusive Thoughts. I am your host and these are my thoughts. My name is and always has been Adam Rippon. It is really good to be here. Right before I started recording this episode, I did have to scold my dog because he was digging at the ground. You know, I just. For people who have dogs, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Where it's just the, he just was digging on the rug, like in a way that you'd think if he only dug a little harder, he'd make it through. But you know, as a human being that there's nowhere to go. Like, why would you do that? You know, as a human you never would. But as a dog, it's just, it's really appealing. And it just, it takes a lot as their parent to convince them that, like, no, you shouldn't dig at the ground. He's doing it right now. Tony. Hey. Yeah. The thing is, is I thought he'd be over it by the time we recorded this show and he's not. So this might be something that we deal with. But, you know, I could also tell, you know, I don't know if other pet owners out there know this or they feel this way, but I can read my dog's mind at least. Tony, we have two Tony and Tracy. Tony, I feel like I can read his mind. I know when I tell him to stop doing something like, stop trying to dig through the fucking floor. We're on the second floor, by the way. Dude, if you dig down, you're going to fall down into the first floor. It's like not going to be pretty. These are things as like, as a dog parent, you have to convince your dog that, like, it's not a good idea to try to dig through the floor while we're on the second floor. Do you know what I mean? But before, I had pets, and by pets, I mean two dogs. Before I had dogs, I never had any, like, animals. I had fish, but they don't really count, I don't think. And it's not like, well, they count. You have to, like, take care of them. It's like, not that ones that I had and not in the year like 2000, we had like an aquarium, but I didn't feel like emotionally invested in the fish at all because I just didn't, you know, I just didn't. And that's a me thing, I think. But regardless, I do think that I can read my dog's mind. Okay. I want to move on. I feel like he's quieted down. He's not going to try to attempt to, like, dig us to the first floor, which I think is good. I do think it's good. I think it's good we kind of stay on the floor that we are recording this episode of Intrusive Thoughts on, which is fantastic. I'm looking in front of me right now. I have a. An I whoops. I have an I voted sticker because I voted and that felt great. I'm in California. We had to vote a lot. This was the election where, you know, it's the current mayor of la, Karen Bass, versus everybody's talking about Spencer Pratt. Gotta be kidding me, right? Did I vote for Spencer Pratt? No. Did I vote for Karen Bass? No. I'll tell you why. The thing is, is that a lot of people, they like learn this every time there is some sort of, like mayoral election in Los Angeles is that Los Angeles county is quite big, right? But a lot of the different cities have their own mayors. So I actually live in Pasadena and we have our own mayor of Pasadena. In fact, where the medical spa is, if you're a first time listener, I opened a medical spa in Arcadia, California today. We did a ribbon cutting, which I didn't really know is like a real thing, but it is. So we did a Ribbon cutting. And the mayor of Arcadia came. Not the mayor that was just arrested. Please listen to me when I tell you the rest of this. Arrested for being a foreign national agent for the Chinese government. Yeah, it happened. It literally happens. I feel like maybe I talked about it on the show, but if I didn't, surprise. So not that mare. It's like a new one. So they were there, and it was great, but we're not really gonna dive too much deeper into that, except for it was just, like, cool. Like, we did a ribbon cutting, and they carry around, like, giant scissors. So I did get to kind of, like, use the giant scissors with my business partner, Tamar, which was really fun. Really. And they're, like, real. They're, like, sharp. They're like two swords. You know, it's not like a light pair of, like, you know, fake stage scissors. These are, like your, like, Fiskars brand large shears. And they go. They. They keep them in a case that looks like it's a tennis ras racket. Rasket. I was gonna say a tennis rasket. So they keep them in a. In a case, and it looks like. And if you can, like, close your eyes, imagine it's like the handles go together, and it's like a large side, and then it's just like a thinner end as well. So that's what I mean. It's just. It looks like a tennis racket, a rasket, as I was trying to say earlier, but I got tongue tied. Nervous. So. Yeah. So just so you know that a ribbon cutting is a real thing, and it's a thing that I did today for the Atami Aesthetics Club. That's correct. Now, before we move on, I want to talk about. And I want everybody to kind of get up to speed, because I really do want to talk about Love island this current season in future episodes. I feel like we're still too early on in Love island is. If you don't know this about me, it's sort of. It's like my guilty pleasure. It's the one show where my husband and I, we see. For some reason, I don't know why. This is the one show where we see eye to eye. And I don't know, it's just. It's something really beautiful in our home. It's like, this is the show that we decide to spend our time watching, and we just. We love it. Every year. Every year, and every 100 hours, we watch a new season of Love Island. And I want to wait, I think, maybe until, like, next week's episode to really just like, dive into it and go more in depth. Because at this point in time, at this time of recording, in this point in time, as I may have kind of led to, alluded to, there's only been two episodes. So I don't feel like there's, like, enough to really, you know, go there with. But we're going to get there. We really are going to get there. I'm really excited because there's. I actually feel like I like every cast member a lot. We're going to just put a pin in it, because what I really want to talk about is if you listened to last week's episode, first of all, you're a better person for. I didn't listen to. I usually. I listen to the episode that, like, I record. I listened to the episode that comes out that week just as a way to sort of kind of take a pulse on, like, you know, mental health check. Just get a pulse on what's going on. And I will say that the episode last week, I did end it and was like, I have no idea what that was about. I have no idea what I possibly could have said or done. And that's. And that's that. And so it's one of those ones. I will consider it, like, one of the Lost episodes. It's like a Lost. Like, we'll never hear it, even though it's, like, forever in the, like, Internet. But I will never want, because I just remember ending it being like, what the hell was I even talking? I think that I was, like, doing, like, a checklist of things I needed to pack because I hadn't packed for my sister's wedding, which is kind of what I'm gonna tell you about for this episode. I want to talk about my trip, my experience, what went down, how did it go, blah, blah, blah. So my sister married her high school sweetheart. My sister Dagney and her now husband, Trey, they're two of the most gorgeous people I've ever met in my entire life. And Dagney had been dating Trey, I feel like, for 10 years. And I met him not for the very first time, but for the second time, but for, like, a. The first real time. Because I think we met in passing, like, at my house once, like, my mom's house a long time ago. But we really met for, like, the real first time last year at my brother's wedding. And it was the first time we ever, like, chatted and sat together and. And I love him. I love Trey. He's so funny. He's such a nice person, but. Yeah, he is. He's amazing. So I'm so happy to have a new brother in law brother. And the, the wedding was beautiful. So I've mentioned it before that I am originally from Pennsylvania, the great Keystone State. And to get to Pennsylvania from my now home state of California, it is like an international trip. Like there's no easy way to get to my hometown. It's about like two hours or two and a half hours from a few different like major. I'm thinking, I'm thinking, what are they? Inter international airports. I don't know why the, the word was like escaping me for a second. They're. Yeah, it's about like, I would say like 80, 90 miles from Newark Airport, Philadelphia and maybe like JFK, LaGuardia. It's probably a little bit further because you're like in the city. But those, those are your two options. I think if you're like traveling to. If you're trying to go to my mom's house. Right. Look. So if you're ever trying to go to my mom's house, you're going to be flying into either Philadelphia or Newark, New Jersey. And I actually think Newark is maybe even a little closer. But the wedding wasn't at my mom's house. So that has nothing to do with wood. I'm going to talk about. So we were flying into Newark, New Jersey, which I had not flown into that airport in like a really long time. So I was, I mean, that's the end of that sentence because I was about to go. I was literally about to say the sentence. So I was really excited to fly into Newark, which I, I was curious. I don't know if I would say I was excited. So I won't even lie. You know, I'll just go. Yeah, I was curious, you know, intrigued. I would. Let's. That's it. So we had to kind of plan this out perfectly because we have the two dogs and Tony, who was just trying to dig to China from the second floor of our house. He loves going to daycare. He loves it. And he loves when he is boarding there. He just loves spending. Oh boy. He loves spending all his time there. Why did I yawn? Who knows? I'll never be able to live that down.

Um, but he loves going to doggy daycare so much it's insane. And then Tracy, she's a bit indifferent to it, AKA she's not really a fan. And so what we wanted to do is we wanted to make sure that we could have them bored overnight the least amount of days as possible. But if you've ever traveled from the west coast to the east coast or vice versa, you know that flight alone, you're talking about something that's going to take the whole day, especially if you're going from west to east because you lose those three hours, right? Let's say it's noon, right? And you're flying into New York from California. You're getting in there 5pm Pacific Time, but that's 8pm Eastern Time. So like from noon until whatever, like, do you know what I'm saying? It's like a good long time gone. And so it takes the whole day. And so you have to fly out pretty early to still get there at some sort of reasonable hour before it just randomly turns into a red eye, which is like going being on a red eye is, I think, fate worse than death. I've been on a few red eyes, but and I know sometimes people do like to take them because they have this really and they're getting really bad information when they say this, that, like, well, I'm going to have the whole day. I want to fly really late so that when I arrive, I can just have the whole day. You're not going to have the whole day. That day is out of your mind because there's not a chance you're going to feel good. You're going to feel like that entire day. Why the hell No, I don't believe in that. I don't believe in a red eye. And I, and I very. I sort of believe in a really early morning flight. There's a time and a place. There's a time and a place for it. I don't mind a really early morning flight when you're going somewhere, but coming home, I'm like, I will no block out the day because going home, it's just sort of like you're tired from the trip. Do you know? Like, if, you know. You know, if you know what I'm saying? You know what I mean? So we had to plan out the entire day perfectly. And what I mean is I wanted to fly out late enough that we could drop the dogs off early enough that it wouldn't have to be the day before, right? And so, like, we can't fly out so early where it's like, we drop them off at 4:00am like, the, the. Their boarding isn't open. So we found a flight. And I want to say it was like 1:30, 1:20 even, which it left us enough time to drop them off in the morning, finish up any packing, and if you're me, record the craziest episode of your podcast you've ever recorded in your entire life in 30 minutes or less. Like a Domino's Pizza. Like it was. I really. I'll. I should listen to it, but I'm sure I'll be like, I'm wasting my own time. I'm sorry, everybody, if that. If you felt that way, hopefully you didn't. And maybe I'll listen back to it and I'll go, this should get a Peabody. Maybe it'll be like this was one of the greatest, like, gifts to the audio industry. And maybe not, you know, mostly probably not. But you never really know. You never know. Sometimes it's always the project you just. You weren't behind. Right? Maybe that's the one that'll get me the. What's the award you can get for a podcast that Amy Poehler won? Is it a. It's a. Damn it. It's not. It's a Golden Globe, I think. Let's look it up quick. Also, by the way, Amy Poehler, that podcast, she. Amy Poehler is the perfect person. Like, I love listening to Good Hang so much. And I'm going to tell you why. Amy Poehler herself is so funny. But I love a funny person who loves to laugh at funny things. Because sometimes when you are talking to somebody who's, like, very funny, it feels like sometimes this back and forth of, like, you're just trying to, like, outdo the next person and say another joke. I'm guilty of this. Where I try to remember to, like, laugh at things that are funny. Right. Instead of, like, it doesn't. The whole conversation doesn't need to be a bit. And Amy Poehler is just so good at this, where she'll tell jokes, but she laughs at them. And she, like, laughs with her guests when they say something funny. She just. I really love her. I say that, like, my eyes get the size of, like, two saucers. I'm like, what? I love Amy Poehler. Okay, what's the award you can win for a podcast? It's going to be like a Webby. I'm like, that's not what I mean. Signal. Golden Globe. That's right. Or a Peabody. Imagine. I don't think this will be the one that we nominate for Peabody. I'm just, you know, that's a note for the editors at Podcast one. I'm sure they're going, yeah, we never were going to do that. But whatever. You never. I don't know what they're doing over there. I really don't know what they're doing over there. But I will say this. Love them to death. Really do. Really do. Okay? So we had to plan out the day perfectly. So I found a flight that was just late enough that would get us, I wouldn't say a reasonable hour, but I would say, like, an hour that was more reasonable than, like, 6am the next morning. Right? So I found us a flight that got us in around the same day, because this is what we would have to do. So there's only one direct flight to the. Like, I like to fly Delta, all right? And I know from LAX to New York, there's only one direct flight, and it's from LAX to jfk, but I know that we need to fly to Newark, and so that means we're going to have to get a connection somewhere. So we were going to fly from LAX to Atlanta, Atlanta to Newark. And as I almost lied before, and the lie was, quote, I was really excited to go to Newark, which is like, why would I. Why would I even think about saying that? Doesn't matter. Regardless, so I was really excited to go to Newark, which is. I'll never, I will always. That will always make me second guess myself. Of like, why did you want to say that? I. I wanted to say because it felt like, listen, when you talk to yourself for about an hour sometimes you just say things to fill the dead air. And that felt like something like I was like, oh, you could fill up the dead air if you just said that you were really excited to go to Newark, New Jersey. Which, okay, whatever. So I needed to time it out perfectly. And I feel like I did, I did everything right. So we were gonna park at the airport. I reserve the parking. Perfect. I found the flight. So my husband and I were both traveling, so it's the two of us. So this is really my chance to kind of show him it's where he really. Sometimes I do believe he thinks that like I'm a Todd. Like, how do you get anything done? How do you get anywhere? And I do kind of give off that vibe sometimes. Of like, I will get it all together in the last minute and he'll be like, where are you going? And I won't have an idea, right? Like, I will have no idea where I'm staying or kind of where I'm traveling to sometimes. There absolutely have been times where I've been going to the airport, just knowing that I have a flight and finding out at the check in counter where it is to. And that's happened a few times. I will say it's happened about 90% of the trips I take. If it's like a work trip, which most of the trips that I take are 90% of them, at least I would 95, I would even go maybe 98% of them. I will arrive in the city and I know that I have a hotel reservation, but I'll have no idea where the hotel is or what it's called. I'll just know it exists. I know that there's a hotel with my name written on it, but I will not know what hotel, where it is, how I'm supposed to get there, somebody's picking me up, I won't know. And when I land, that is the time that I reserved for me to figuring out all of those details. So when it came to planning this trip, it's like, I'm the one. Well, I don't have to be the one, but I'm the one who decided that I was Going to make sure that everything was planned out and correct. Right? So I remember being so proud. And I'm not like, I'm not saying all this to, like, allude to, like, and wait till it all falls through. It just. I'm not the reason anything didn't work out. Okay. So, which is sort of dot, dot, dot, you scratch your head, you're going, whoa, something didn't work out. Yes. Which is why I'm going to talk about it. Right. Which is why I'm going to talk about it. So here is the deal. We drop the dogs off, we park the car. Everything is going swimmingly. We get to the airport. We even get there early enough that we can get lunch, which JP Loves to do. I love to, like, get there by the last skin of your teeth second, but he likes to sit down, get some lunch, eat a little bit. Then we get on the plane, we mosey ourselves onto the plane. That's his, like, preferred travel journey. And you know what? When. When you travel with somebody who likes to do that, I'm a firm believer you do what they want to do because you know that what they're doing, the. I say it in quotes again, the right thing, you know, you know what they're doing is the proper way to travel. And you know that if they did it your way and anything didn't go right, like, if something didn't go according to plan, you would never be able to live that down. They would. They would either, like, remove you from their life, divorce you on the spot. Like, that would be the end of the day of the trip, of the friendship, of the relationship if they did it your way and it didn't work out, and they'd be like, I told you so. And so I always am a firm believer that if you travel with somebody who's a little bit more like type A when it comes to travel, you do it their way, right? The customer's always right. They're the customer in this situation. You're the big box store. You're going to do what they do because you know what they're doing is the proper way to do it. And you know that every time you get to the. Every time I get to the airport and it's like, there's 10 minutes before you have to board. It's just sort of like, I know I'm dancing with fire. I know it, but I just. Oh, God, I love the thrill. And I love the extra 30 minutes you get at home where it's sort of just like you're Pacing around, doing literally nothing where you could be going to the airport. But regardless, it doesn't matter. That's not what we're going to talk about. What we're going to talk about is everything was going great. So we're sitting at the gate and I also made sick. Another thing you need to make sure of and you, everyone who's ever traveled before or had a connecting flight knows you need to make sure that you're not giving yourself some unrealistic amount of time to get from one plane to the next. And I feel like anything that's 45 minutes or less is always cutting it close. You want to give enough time to let the bags come off the plane and for them to reload them onto the other plane. Like I just want to give everybody enough time. So I think anything that's less than 45 minutes is like ridiculous. Even like the hour mark. I think like having one hour, you just want to give a little bit of leeway. So we had, when we would land from LAX to Atlanta, we had about an hour and 45 minutes, which I think is anything between like an hour and a half and two hours I think is the sweet spot. Three hours. I'm sort of scratching my ass, I'm getting uncomfortable. I'm going, can we move this thing along? But an hour and a half, hour 45, you know, it's. You had enough time to kind of just acclimate yourself to the surroundings of your new home of whatever, you know, connecting airport you're in. You just have time to like acclimate yourself and go, you know, I know where the bathrooms are, I know where the exit is, I know where the gate is. Let me go get a $8 water at a Hudson News, if it even existed. Right? Because they, I don't know where they are. And so I felt like we were like in the clear. But we're sitting at the gate at LAX and it's slowly becoming a reality that something's not right. Where it's the, the flight got delayed first 15 minutes and then it got delayed another 30 minutes. So now we're at 45 minutes delayed. But again now we're at the hour mark for the connection. So I'm thinking, okay, we, I think things are going to be okay. I think we're all going to be all right. So we kind of like mosey around, we get onto the plane, we sit in our seats, everything seems to be going well there. They do announce that there is some sort of like maintenance issue. Damn it. Okay, strike One. So there's a maintenance issue, so we're going to have to sit on the plane for a little bit. So we end up sitting on the plane for like a half hour. Okay, now we have 30 minutes for that connection. It's not looking good. Very recently, I feel like WI fi on planes has gotten. And this will come. This isn't me changing the subject. This is me sort of like getting to the next part. It's like a new. A new chapter. Right. When you're reading a book, you know, books, right? Oh, speaking of books, I finished the Lena Dunham book. Loved it. You should read it. Everyone should read it. I can't remember literally anything about it right now, but I have also started watching Girls, so I'm trying to make rights of my wrongs. So I. Yeah, I'm working on it. I'm chipping away. I'm enjoying it. I'm ready. I'm ready for the journey. I'm just, like, ready to know. So thank you, Lena Dunham, for your book. Now back to me and enough about her. So we're sitting on the plane and I have noticed that on all of these flights I'm on especially, and specifically the United ones. Excuse me, not United. I. I'm making an X with my arms. Do not like United. I used to be a United guy. Not anymore. Sorry, no Delta. On these Delta flights. Excuse me. I feel like the WI fi is pretty good. And in times past, I've always used the plane as a way to, like, unplug and just not be on my phone or if I'm on my phone. It's just like, you know, I'm playing games. I'm just. I'm not worried about getting back to people, answering emails, anything. But now that the wifi and it's free on these Delta flights is so good, I use it as a time to let the brain melt and rot out. Almost to the point of dripping out of my ears. Watching for no matter how long the flight is TikTok's friend. From the moment the WI fi kicks into the moment it kicks off. And I do really enjoy that time as well. I do. So I'm watching a lot of TikToks. But that being said, it's like the wifi works well. And this is going to come into play because we sat on the tarmac for another 30 minutes. So now we only have 30 minutes at the connecting airport, which is very famously, Atlanta, the busiest airport in the entire fucking world. It's going to be a toss up of whether we make that flight or not? Okay, so we are supposed to arrive, I think. Let's just, I'm going to ballpark it to just give you the idea. We're supposed to arrive around like 8 or 9pm and then we were going to arrive, get on the next flight, and we were going to arrive in Newark like 12:15, like midnight. Right. So technically the next day. But physically and emotionally, you know, it feels the same day. But what we were going to do is we were going to rent a car that night and drive the two hours to my sister's wedding venue. So we were. And this is all like, this will all come into play. So as we, so, so just to like kind of button that up is we were gonna drive from Newark to my sister's venue, planning on getting there around 2 o', clock, 2:30 in the morning and just like sleeping in in the morning and whatever. So that, that was the plan that felt like our best like plan of action is like, that's what we were gonna do because we were just like, you know, we'll, we'll land, we probably won't be that tired because we'll be on west coast time. We might as well just utilize there being no traffic and drive out. So that's, that was the grand master plan. So as I mentioned, we're on the flight on the tarmac an extra 30 minutes. We're only gonna have 30 minutes for the connection. Somehow while we're in the air, the flight gets delayed. Like the, our landing time, it gets pushed back another 15 minutes. So now it's really not looking like we're gonna make the flight. Okay, so it's like 15 more minutes. Now we're only gonna have a 15 minute connection. Let's say it together, busiest airport in the fucking world. And then I get a text. See, I told you the WI fi would kind of come back in. We get a text and they say, hey, good news. Your flight is now taking off 15 minutes early. Bada bing, bada boom, right? So we will not be making that flight. And it's just sort of like, okay, well, whatever, you know, we're, I'm not really somebody who gets like threatened. Thank God JP is also like this, where we are not people who are like, oh, God damn it. Like, we're not those kind of people who, when we're traveling and something comes up where it's just like, oh my, everything's a disaster. Like, we aren't those people. I'm a real like go with the flow guy. And if Anything. I'm like, this is a great next episode of the podcast. If things continue on this trek, you know, if things keep going awry, I'm gonna have an amazing episode, which I would agree. This is better than last week. This could be the one we submit for the Peabody. Just note that. Podcast one. So I am now having to kind of just. I'm trying to think quickly, and this is where I really want my. Listen. My husband and I have been together for, like, eight years. He does kind of know me really well. But there is some part of me where it's like, I want to competitively show him how good I am at traveling and how I. I can quickly get all of this done. Like, oh, there's an issue. Let me fix it. And so I'm in that kind of mode and zone. And another thing I'm gonna say, and this is like, I feel like across the board on most airlines, but again, like, I know Delta the best, but, like, if there's an issue, you can get a lot done. You don't need to call someone. You can get a lot done through the app, like, through the Delta app on your phone. And so from the moment we landed, I had already rebooked us onto, like, flights the next day. Like, that was, like, done. But it was pretty important that I figure out, well, where are we going to stay tonight and how do we figure that out? So I'm trying to Google, you know, again, when you're on Tick Tock, it's just like, hey, I'm the travel lawyer. And it's like, whatever. I spoke to Pete Buttigieg once, and I. They have to get you a hotel. So I'm like, do we. Are we entitled to a hotel tonight or not? And all signs are pointing to, yes, but, you know, you don't know. And there's no way of figuring this out on the app. So I do have to kind of go the colloquial route. Colloquial. I don't know. You know, the word I'm trying to say. Just really can't figure it out right now. Not going to get stuck here in the story the peasant way, the original way. What I'm trying to say is I had to speak to somebody face to face, and that is because I needed to ask them, what are you gonna do? Where am I staying tonight? I need a hotel. But I know. I just have a feeling that sometimes when you go up to the desk, you just have to be direct in what you're asking for and not kind of like, pussyfoot around it. You gotta be like, this is what I want in a nice way. Right? So you have to be like, I really like your necklace and I need a hotel room. That was kind of my plan going in. And so I, you know, they, they can be a bit funny. And when I say they, I mean like the royal they of like airlines in general, they can be a little funny about like doling out those free hotel rooms because there is a world in which they can be like, well, your flight's in eight hours. Which it wasn't. I had booked us on like a little like more in the afternoon type flight because we could sit together on that one. And I was like, we're not getting up at the ass crack of dawn. Like, we're not making this trip a trip from hell. We're gonna make this trip long as hell, but not a trip from hell. Okay, so we get in line and you want to know what? The only reason we were able to get a hotel. So cut to. They do get us a hotel room. And the only reason we were entitled a hotel room is because we sat on the tarmac for an extra 15 minutes. And that made our delay one of the reasons mechanical. So you know what? It paid not to get upset at that mechanical delay because there's a hundred percent chance, there is a 100% chance that if we had 15 minutes to get to the next flight, like, we wouldn't have made it anyway. We wouldn't have gotten our bags, like, it all worked out. So our mechanical issue did get us a night at a hotel. So the way that it works is like they send you, you go into the line and they're like, we're gonna send you a code to like redeem a hotel room, whatever. Okay, great, I'll do that. Free hotel. So I go and we redeem and it gives you a list of maybe like three or four hotel rooms. And there's no, like, you can't click and get a preview of each one. So you're sort of just vibing it out of like, well, I've heard the Hilton Atlanta is nice. It's just, you have no idea. And we weren't really. I did at one point say like, hey JP like start to google these hotels and see which one's the nicest one. He was like, no, because he can be a bit stubborn and annoying as I can be as well. So it's like, that is sort of so. And I was just sort of like, that's fair. Because I also wasn't like, let me Google them. And so I. And I really was kind of vibing out. So what we decided to do was this. And we decided to just pick one that looked the nicest from the pictures from the email. Okay. It was as simple as that, right? There was no sort of whatever, blah, blah, blah. So we decided we were going to stay at a Kimpton, and regardless, we were gonna stay at a hotel that was close enough that we could take a shuttle back to the airport the next day. So we stay at the Kimpton, and as we're checking in, they're like, you know, the restaurants are closed, but, like, this is a restaurant that you could order from. And I say restaurant very loosely. It. Okay, we'll get there. So we check into our room. It's two double beds. And I'm kind of loving the idea because I'm like, you know what? On a stressful night, I don't want to sleep next to somebody. I want to starfish in this bitch. I want to be spray. I want to be stretching out the whole night. But it is the first time in my entire life that JP And I have ever slept in the same room in different beds. Like, it did feel very like I Love Lucy in the first seasons, where it was just, like, too, like, risque for a husband and wife to be in the same bed together on television. Like I did. It felt like that. Or if, like, you ever watch the Crown, right? And it's just like Queen Elizabeth is. Has her own room, and Prince Philip is just, like, three, like, three corridors away. It felt very that. Except it wasn't Buckingham palace, and it was the Kimpton Atlanta International Airport. And so we have our own beds, which is, like, an interesting. And it's a newer experience for us as a married couple, but we're, you know, we were like, we're down to try whatever, right? We'll try anything once. And so we're setting up camp, and we're like, let's order something. And so we order from again, like, restaurant. Very loose. It felt really like I was ordering from somebody who ordered a lot of frozen food food and had an air fryer. I got chicken fingers, and they were the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted in my life. Somehow they were boiling hot and soaking wet all at the same time. I got a pizza, which you can't really get pizza wrong even when it's terrible, and this one was terrible, but it's still, like, the main part that you need to get right is that it needs to have cheese and this had the cheese. Were there a few times where I wasn't sure if I was eating part of the box it came in? Absolutely. It was a risk I was willing to take. Cause I was hungry and because I wasn't gonna eat my hot, wet chicken tenders. Not a chance. Absolutely no chance. JP got fish and chips, if I'm remembering correctly, which I know I am. And we got a Caesar salad, which absolutely was. You know, a Caesar salad is gonna be like. I don't even know, you know exactly what you're getting into. When you open the Caesar salad and you put the dressing on and you just look and everything is beige, right? Like, the lettuce is just. It's not green enough for you to go, well, it's green. It's just white enough that like next to more things that are yellow because it's like with Mexican cheese on top. So it's. You got your, your white cheddar and you got your yellow cheddar on there. And so it's just. The hue is just light enough that like next to the orange, into the yellow, you're going, well, it could be any color. That's color theory for you. So it could be really any color. Then you put the dressing on. The dressing, the Caesar dressing is a shade of like taupe, right? It's like a canvas color. So you put it all on and it's, you know exactly what kind of salad. There's not a tomato, there's not a carrot, there's not a piece of broccoli, any. Nothing in there. So you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. It's very like Newman's kind of coated grocery store bag. Like it's, you know exactly what you're. You could look at that salad and you go, yeah, the chicken tenders will probably be wet, right. When you look at the whole salad and go, yeah, it's pretty beige for a salad. You know, it's a very cream toned salad. And so that was the tone of the food, but it doesn't matter, right? We didn't. We didn't fly to Atlanta for dinner. We flew for a connecting flight that we missed. And that wasn't our fault. Thank you. To a 15 minute mechanical delay. So we wake up in the morning and we get a little breakfast at the hotel, which was delicious. There's nothing better than a piece of fruit and a piece of bacon from a hotel and an orange juice. Like there is. It's top tier, regardless of, like the establishment. So we go to the hotel I can. Another thing with the app, I love it. You can just, like, always see where your bag is. You can check the tag. So I can. I have tabs on the bag. And it looks like everything is, like, all swell. That ends well, right? Our flight's on time, and so we fly from Atlanta to Newark. It's the next day now. Okay. The only issue that we have now is that we have to drive from Newark to a city in Pennsylvania. It's called the Poconos. If you're an east coaster, you're going to know what I'm talking about. If not, it's called the Poconos. It's like, a little, like, mountainy kind of place. It's very beautiful. And this is where my sister was getting married. And so the only thing was that, like, now we were gonna have to drive sort of, like, in traffic, but. Well, you know, whatever. It is what it is, like, we both don't care. I'm not trying to make it more dramatic than it is, because there's different parts of this story that I really want to get to. So we. Our bag comes. Not an issue. We get into the rental car, which. So when we landed in Atlanta and things weren't looking like we were gonna make it to the. All the way to the east coast, we weren't gonna make it to our hotel that night. How about that? So I started, like. Because, like I said, I was, like, competitively trying to show JP Like, I'm a really good traveler, ain't I? Like, I just was really, like, don't you think I'm really good at, like, it was. I don't know why or what came over me, but whatever. And so I was like, we're gonna call all these people and do all this and do all that. And so one of the things was, I called the rental car company. Alamo is where we. I'm not loyal to any rental car company. Just want that to be on, like, the. The record. I don't know if you have a rental car company that you're, like, loyal to. I'm willing to hear you out, and I'm willing to become loyal to them because of you. But for me, I'm just sort of like, whatever. I have always felt, like sites like Kayak and Expedia, like, they are unborrowed time, except when it comes to finding a rental car. Like, I will always, and I don't know why, and I'm willing to, like, cut the shit and never do that again. Okay? So I call them and I tell them, you know, I'm not gonna be there. We're gonna pick it up now, a few hours later. And they recalculate my whole reservation. And they're like, you're actually gonna save some money on this. And I'm like, oh, really? And they're like, yeah. And my whole total went down $7. So that was great. So there's $7 I had. But I had given to the company of Alamo. And then I got it back, and I called the. The hotel that we were going to stay at in the Poconos, the wedding venue. And I called them and I said, hey, like, we're not going to make it in tonight. I just want you to know that, like, so that our reservation doesn't get canceled or just so that everybody, like, knows what's up, but we'll be in tomorrow. And so the person on the other line goes, yeah, I have. Actually. I have no idea how to handle any of that. Do you want me to just take a message? And I. And. And they said it with such vigor that I went, yeah, they. They re. They certainly don't know how to handle this information. Like, I don't even know. Like, I wasn't. I was just saying, we're not going to check in tonight. We'll be there tomorrow. Just want to make sure that the reservation won't get canceled. That was pretty much all the information I wanted, like, reiterated. And they said, oh, yeah, that is. That. That is not my job. I was. I was. And they said it with such conviction that I went, it's not their job. And yes. Why don't you leave a message? So the person who gets there in the morning or whatever, you know, I don't. I don't know. I'm assuming they're at a front desk, right? So the person who gets to the front desk in the morning at least knows, like, to like, oh, that reservation isn't. Don't cancel it. Like, I still want to make sure that when we get there, I have a room at my sister's wedding venue hotel. So I don't hear back. Like, we're traveling the whole, like, throughout the entire afternoon. And so we make it to Newark, and I. This is why I was excited. It was beautiful. The new terminal. Any work is. It is gorgeous. It really is gorgeous. And so now it won't be a lie when I go. I'm excited to go to Newark. And the other thing about the Newark airport is that I love that the rental car place is, like, attached to the Airport. I really just dislike when you have to take a shuttle to the rental car. Like, I don't care for that. I love when it's attached and a newer gets attached. So we go, we get our car, and we decide that we're gonna start the drive. And it says like, an hour and 45 minutes of like, okay, great. So we start driving, and we start driving for about 10 minutes before the check engine light pops on on the car. And I'm like, meh, whatever. And JP's like, turn around. Like, you don't want something to, like, go on. Like, we still have to drive another probably two hours, so you don't need something actually happening with the car. And then we get all the way out to your sister's wedding and, like, doesn't work in the morning or something. He's like, just. We're so close. Like, just turn around. I'm like, okay, well, whatever. We'll just turn around again. It was like we were 10 minutes away. It wasn't a big deal. So we go, we turn around, and we, like, come right in there, and we go right back into the thing. And they're like, how is your car? Because now it's a different person. How is your car? And I'm like, well, we were actually here 10 minutes ago. The check engine light is on, so can we, you know, switch to a different car? And they're like, sure. Like, go over to the customer service desk and they'll take care of you. So we go over to the customer service desk, and I explain what was going on. And jp, like, whispers. He's like, ask them for some sort of, like, upgrade. Because, like, something happened. I said, okay. So I say, and can we get some sort of, like, compensation? Maybe, like, an upgrade of the car since we had to come back? And the girl behind the desk was like, sure. And so she goes to the guy who's next to her, and it's like, go get them a different car. Blah, blah. And so the girl sitting at the desk is. So I can just tell that, like, we would be friends in real life life if there wasn't a customer service desk for the Alamo Car Rental Place. Like, if that desk wasn't there and we were at a. And that was a bar, we would be hooting and hollering all night. I know. I can just feel it. And you know when you have that feeling, you're just gonna vibe with somebody. And so she looks at me, she goes, your skin is so nice. And so I go, I just opened A medical spa. And we're hitting, hitting it off. And so then she goes, so how much money do you want back? $50, $60. And I was like, $70, $80. And she was like, let me see what I can do. She goes on her computer, click clack, click clack, click clack. She goes, all right, I got you a hundred dollars off.

Okay, So I made $100 in 10 minutes of driving back from Elizabeth, New Jersey back to Newark, New Jersey International Airport. So I said thank you God, this is amazing. So we get in the car and it really was like I had a Volkswagen something or whatever and then we got upgraded to some Hyundai or whatever. And it was nice. It was actually quite nice. Loved it. So the, the screen was, it was an upgrade. Like the screen was bigger. This, it was just, it felt nice, luxurious. But you know when she, he came back with a Hyundai she did look back at her like co worker and was like a Hyundai for an upgrade. And I said it's okay. And it, but I wanted to say on the record it was an upgrade. It was nicer than the Volkswagen and I used to be a big old Volkswagen lover until it crashed out. It didn't. It just check engine light, whatever. We get to the hotel. So, no, no, actually, we drive. And at this point, like, we are in rush hour. So this has all taken an extra hour. So now we're about, like, an hour later than we were. So now we're really in the heat of the rush hour. And so instead of now, before it said an hour and 45 minutes, it's going to be two hours. Which, you know, you can always tell when the GPS is, like, trying to see. It's like the glass is half full, and it's like, no, this is gonna take two and a half hours. And you could just tell. Like, you could tell because it would be like, it's two hours, and then, like, 20 minutes later, it's like, it's two hours. Like, please don't lie, Right? Like, just don't lie. It's. We all know what's gonna happen, so just, like, don't lie. So we get in the car, I call my. I called my mom and just, like, let her know what was happening so that my sister wasn't getting worried or, you know, whatever. And just trying to let people know where we are because they're like, shouldn't you be here yesterday? Because I don't think I called anybody because it was midnight by the time we got checked into the Kimpton Atlanta International Hotel and my own personal twin bed. So by the time I was there, it was, like, too late to, like, let anybody know what was happening. And again, as I've, like, told you, I was competitively planning out this trip to really show my husband, like, I know what I'm doing. Like, I can fly on my own. Like, I don't know. So we start driving. Drive, drive, drive. And it takes us about two and a half hours, but we do make it to the. This resort, this. The wedding venue. It's like some mountain resort, something or other. And, you know, I know where I'm from. And it can be, like, very beautiful and all normal and all good. And then it can quickly go to, hey, I'd like you to meet my cousin, who's my wife, right? Like, it can very quickly turn to that. And then it can very quickly turn back to, like, hey, I'm a really cool person who just, like, lives in this beautiful part of the country. And then it can quickly go back to, like, we should lock up Hillary Clinton today. And it's like, oh, okay, that was 10 years ago, and we shouldn't. And what about your guy? And so whatever. So just. I want you to, like, just want to paint the picture of like, that's where I'm from in this world that it goes like, it's. The pendulum swings violently sometimes. And I was just telling JP where it was like, I know because I have never really spent any time in the Poconos as somebody who's like, from that part of the country, which means JP definitely has not. And so I was like, I know it will be very beautiful, but like, let's. Whatever our expectations are, let's lower them to the ground. Let's lower them even lower to where my dog was trying to dig through at the beginning of the episode. Let's lower them that low. And he's like, okay, so we drive in and we pull into the. The. The location and his jaws like on the ground. It is. It really is absolutely beautiful. It's stunning. It reminds me a lot of Finland, except jp. This is a quote of his. He said it's even more beautiful because there's like the rolling hills and Finland can be very flat. But it's stunning. It is absolutely beautiful. And we go and we go to like wherever the front desk is going to be because I want you to. It's like a. It's a huge plot of land. And so like the front desk is like a little cabin and all of the individual rooms are like cabins on the, on the resort property. Okay. So we go to the like check in cabin and we're looking to figure out like, where do we check in? Because we knock on the door, nobody's there. Like, I'm like, okay, so maybe we don't have a room or did we miss. And I want you to know it's like a very normal time of day to day. Still be working at like a front desk. It's like 6pm, right? It's not even like a. If you're imagining like small mountain resort or something, you could even imagine like maybe even 9pm is a little late. But like it's light out 6pm so we're kind of knocking. We don't see anything. And then all of a sudden, like the back of the building, I see a woman walk out who had to have been at least 11 months pregnant. least. She is like, oh, are you trying to check in? I'm like, yeah, maybe don't walk. So I mean, I feel like the next step she's gonna take, like a foot is gonna pop out of her. Like, it's. She's that pregnant. I feel like if she, at any moment the baby inside of her could have come out and helped us find. Find Our room. Like, it's just. It's that pregnant, by the way. Like, she is gonna burst at. In. She moves too fast. The baby's gonna fall out. She's enormous. Oh, let me. Like, all the keys are here. She reaches into it like, like, kind of annoyed with me. I'll say. Like, she reaches into the mailbox of the. Of the front desk little cabin. She reaches into the mailbox of that, and you're like, your key's in here. Like, well, duh. Like every hotel. Like, like, I should have. No, but I'm like, okay, cool. She. But I'm like, she's pregnant beyond. Like, if there's ever been somebody more. Like, she's so pregnant. Where it feels like if she were that pregnant in a television show, they'd be like, hey, cut, like, take some of the pillow out of her stomach. Like, it. It looked so over. Like, I'm telling you. I want you to believe me. Where it was like, she was in no state, and she was, like, in the, like, sweatpants, sweatshirt, scratching the armpits, scratching the butt crack, like, was not ready for guests, and annoyed that we were there, which is fine. Whatever. I. I've just saved a hundred dollars on a rental car and not gonna let a pregnant woman's bad attitude get in my way or rain on my parade. And so we get the. We get the key to our. A little room, and we have to drive there through the property, and we get there, and the room is beautiful. Like, it's so nice. It's so well done. We're both. JP And I are both, like, super impressed with, like, how nice the room is and the property and everything. It's. Landscaping is beautiful. It's so nice. So we just, like, freshen up. We go to my sister's welcome dinner and drinks. And so we had missed the dinner, but we made it in time to, like, have some drinks and see everybody. And I got to see my entire family. And we had a lot of fun. And this has now become like, a tradition where we almost get him in trouble. But Trey, my now new brother in law, my sister's now husband, J.P. and I always usually, like, just, like, talk to Trey or with one of Trey and one of his friends or something is what happened. We just, like, stay up so late just, like, cheating and chatting. We have so much fun. We love Trey. We love Trey. And so we ended up doing that where we, like, just like, there was a beautiful, like, fire that we could set up. It was just. It was so nice. And we just Shoot the shit. So it's time to go to bed. Trey goes to sleep. He has a big day. He's getting married to my sister. J.P. and I get to finally be reunited with our luggage because we didn't get it back when we were in Atlanta. It was like getting transferred to the plane. And so we get reunited with our luggage. I get to brush my teeth with my real toothbrush. I get to use my face wash and not a bar of soap. So it's just like a lot of exciting things happen for me in this moment. And we. No. And so I. I'll tell you, I was thinking of doing something a little shady, but I was like, you know, it's a mountain resort. And this was our plan for the next part of the trip. All right, the next part of the trip, our plan was this, that my sister, her wedding, and everything was done at 10pm okay, for the day of the wedding. And like I said, we needed to be back as soon as possible because we wanted to pick the dogs up because Tracy is not good at the boarding and we don't want to traumatize her. It's not that she's not good, it's just like, we can tell that she's like. It's uneasy. It's stressful for her. And so we knew we needed to fly out the next morning and it needed to be early because we needed to be there early enough that we got back to California, early enough that we were back at the daycare early enough before they closed to pick up the dogs. So it's like a 7am flight. So we decided that after the wedding, we would pack up our stuff and get in the car and then just drive out to the airport and stay the night at the airport so that we were there and the rental car was returned and everything. Like, we didn't need to do all of that at like 4 o' clock in the morning, which is like a death sentence when you do it. Like, it's the worst thing ever. So I. I'm confident in this. But it also means that we don't have the hotel room to get ready for the wedding. And so in my mind, you know, it's a. It's a resort. It's a mountain resort. Like, my sister, her entire wedding party is going to be there. I'm not asking to, like, keep the room later or whatever, but I was thinking, like, we could get a late checkout, maybe 1pm or something. But because we're immediate family, we had pictures and stuff to do. So I was like, maybe noon or one, if we're really pushing it for like a late checkout. Like, maybe, if that's possible. Because I know that the checkout is 10am but like I mentioned when we checked in, it was like a pregnant woman who pointed to the mailbox being like, go get your key. And so there was nobody to talk this through with. So I was like, you know, what is it? Like, whatever. Like, we'll just, we'll figure it out. I'm sure, I am sure. It's easygoing. Whatever the opposite of easy going is, is what happens next. So JP wakes me up around 9:00 clock in the morning and he's like, just like, FYI, checkout is at 10:00am and I'm like, what? I. It'll be fine. You know, I'm letting my guard down from my competitive, perfect trip scheduling, right? I'm like, it will be fine. It's not a big deal. Like who. Nobody's gonna be here today. Like, they. There's a wedding here. Like, people aren't gonna be coming here. And he's like, well, just in case, like, why don't you get up and start just like, you know, moving around. Okay. So I'm kind of just like in bed. And then all of a sudden I get a phone call. And the area code is like the area code of where we are. And so I'm like, oh, it must be the hotel. So I answer and I go, hello. And they say, is this Adam? I say, yes, this is Adam. And she goes, you were late. Uh huh. Excuse me? You were late. You were supposed to check in two days ago. This is, I want you to. This is how they're starting this phone call off, like aggressive. You were late. Okay, what's it to you? I'm. Don't say that. But like, I'm like, I think I'm gonna get, you know, I'm not a confrontational, personal person at all. I'm actually conflict avoidant, very. But I'm like, sometimes when I feel like somebody's giving me like a big old attitude, I leave my body and. And what, what happens is like, I'm not responsible for. And it really very, very rarely happens. But she gets on the phone with me. Is this Adam? Yes, you were late. Okay. And I was late. And what are you the pregnant one or not? It's. First of all, it's not before. You're like, she's pregnant. It's like this one, this one isn't. This one is fertile, but not pregnant without Child barren. Okay, so you were late. Okay, I said. Okay, I said. I called and let someone know that we were gonna be late, and they took a message. They said it wasn't their job to fix my reservation. Okay, well, we tried to call you and you didn't answer. And I was like, okay. We were traveling. I told them that, like, our flight got delayed and so we missed the last flight, so we were not going to make it out until the next day. And so when you were calling, we were most likely throughout some. At some. Some place in the airport or on the plane. Right? So it's like, I understand you, but, like, we're here, so what is this phone call? Like, I don't understand what this phone call is about. So you were late. Okay. You were supposed to check in two days ago. Yeah, I call. I. Okay, I did. I. I explained to someone that. That. That we were gonna have an issue there. Right. Okay. And so then she says, so this is where I feel like, okay, we're turning a corner. She goes, well, would you like us to, like, shift your reservation? And I'm like, oh, And I want you to know that, like, I have not started getting moody or snippy yet because I'm just. I'm so. It's all so out of pocket the way that I'm being spoken to. Again, I just want you to know that, like, where I'm from, like I mentioned before, it can get very, like, this is my cousin who's my wife, and I. I'm just like, I'm aware of that. Or it just sort of like, everyone should have a gun. Like, I. It can get there quickly. So it's like, I know how to ride these waves. So I'm like, keep it cool. Keep it cool. You were late. Take responsibility for your actions, whatever. We can shift your reservation. So since be. Since I had not strucken up an attitude, since I, at that this point did not strike up an attitude, I felt like, okay, great, we can turn a corner here. And I said, oh, my gosh, that would be so nice. She goes, yeah, so like, you can, like, have the hotel for tonight as well. And I said, okay, great. And I like, kind of mouthed to JP or I'm on speakerphone so he can hear, and he's like, ask if it's an extra cost. And I'm like, what a stupid question. Why would they tell me they can shift the reservation if not to tell me it would be at an extra cost. And so I am like, you know what? You know, shame on Me if I don't ask, and it is an extra cost. So I, I, I say, I just want to, to be clear, is this, is this going to be an extra cost? And she on the other line says, well, yeah, well, yeah. And so I'm like, what do you. So wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What do you mean you're gonna shift my reservation and then it's gonna cost me? She goes, well, you were late. I'm like, okay, I didn't even ask to, like, get a refund for the hotel room. Like, I prepaid for the room and I know that there was a two room minimum, so it's like, I'm gonna try to deal with that like, on my own. Like, I never asked for anything. Like, I haven't even talked to anybody. I was late. Put the gun down, bitch. What the fuck? So she's like, yeah, no, you're gonna have to pay for it. I said, what do you mean? So let me get this straight. You're not gonna shift my reservation, you're just gonna add another night to it, and then I'm gonna have to pay for the extra night? And she said, well, yeah, of course. Okay, so then why did you tell me you were going to shift it? Now I'm getting into northeastern Pennsylvania talk now. Now I'm the one going, hey, this is my husband and my brother. Like, I'm, I'm at that point now where I'm going, hey, like, lock her up. Like, I am ready to go. It's taking over my body. And at this point, like, I'm going back and forth like we are. She's speaking complete nonsense at this point. So I'm like, so you're not adding another night? You're just gonna add another night? You're not shifting the reservation? Why are you calling it shifting the reservation? Because, well, because you were late, so we have to shift it later. I'm like, you don't have to do anything. Why are you calling me? And so at this point, JP takes the phone away from me, which was the right move. So he takes the phone away from me and he goes, hey, we're gonna be checking out today. Is there any other reason that you're, like, calling? She goes, no, because. Okay, well, then we'll see you in a little bit. Hangs up the phone, and I'm like, that was insane, correct? He's like, no, that was insane. So I'm like, okay, I'm gonna have to, like, see this person later. And I'm just gonna, I don't Know how it's gonna go. So we pack up our stuff and everything, and I'm just like, I cannot. But, like, that was just such an odd interaction. But you know what? Listen, it can happen. So we go and we get all of our stuff together. And so you might be thinking, well, how do you get ready for the. For the wedding? So my mom at this resort had rented, like, a. The larger cabins that had a few multiple bedrooms in it. So, like, I had a brother staying there. I, I, I think a lot of my siblings were staying there, if you didn't know. And just to remind you, I am one of six. So I have a sister getting married. I'm not in the hotel room that my mom got a cabin of. But then there's still four other siblings. So I think the other four siblings were staying at this cabin with my mom, which my mom had originally offered for us to stay there with her, But I don't know why. I was like, no, we'll get. We don't want to be in the way. Instead, I was like, well, I guess I'll just pick a fight with some local girl instead. So we were always going to get ready for the wedding in my mom's, like, little cabin thing that she got for the wedding. So it was. But I was still hoping, like, maybe we wouldn't have to do that because, like, we'd get a late checkout, which, no, we could. They could, like, as they said, they could shift the reservation, which meant they would only add a night to it at cost to me, which is, let's just say it, not shifting the reservation at all. So we go to the front desk, and I see the, The. This woman. And when I say woman, I mean, she's got to be 20 years old, fresh. And I'm like, wow, so young to be such a. That's all I have to say about that. So I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna win this girl over. I'm gonna win this girl over. And I start going crazy. Miscommunication. She's like, huh. Dumb as a door, right? There's. What can. What can you do? What can you do? So I just said, you know what I'm gonna say? You know, we would really like to get breakfast. Do you have a favorite place? She plops down in front of me, a list of 20 local restaurants. Okay. And she puts it down in front of me, and she goes, the best place here is Dale's. Not. I've. That was. There was no. Like, you might like this if you like this. And I went, I like that you didn't have any hesitation. And she goes, it's the best food here. So that was as much like camaraderie that we were ever gonna get. And did we bury the hatchet? As much as you could, Right? So we go to Dale's for breakfast. And again, this is like. This is kind of the beauty of, like, a small town where, just to give you an example, our waitress, probably around my age, if not younger, was. Had, like, pancakes and eggs, like, holding them, about to serve them to another table that was next to us. And she's gonna put them on the table just to kind of. I want to paint the picture of, like, where we are. So she's about to put them on the table, and her phone starts ringing. And she looks at the people at the table. She goes, can you hold on a second? She reaches in her pocket and she answers her phone. She goes, what do you want? I'm at work, which is incredible theater, right? She's asking, can they wait a second? So that she can give somebody attitude on the phone. And I'm just, you know, now I'm softening up to the girl at the front desk. Because I'm forgetting that this is the love aggression is the love language of northeastern Pennsylvania. I'm forgetting that. And I. I should know that as somebody who is born and bred there, I should know that. And it's like, now I'm like, okay. She was the woman at the front desk. Woman. Girl at the front desk was giving me attitude because it was the only way that she knows how to show love. And so I was like, okay. And the waitress comes over. She's super nice. She's great. And then we get back, we get ready for the wedding. The wedding is gorgeous. Oh, my God. Trey and Dagny looked unbelievable. It was so beautiful. The wedding was un believably nice. I love my sister. I love my family. And it was beautiful. And when the night was over, we got in the car and we. And this is where it was like, did we do the right thing or did we do the wrong thing? Because by the time we checked into. So we drove all the way back out to Newark and returned the car and we checked into the hotel. And by the time we checked into the hotel, it was like, we have to check out in three hours. So it was like, did we do the wrong thing or. God. But when we woke up three hours later, I felt very secure in our decision to rather do those three hours at that hotel. On the back end, rather than doing the three hours at the wedding venue, then trying to get in the car and then drive and then return the car and do all of that, like, hullabaloo. And so when we woke up and we made it to the airport, I was like, that is one of the best decisions we made the entire trip was to get that hotel at the airport the night of the wedding before the next flight. And so then we have literally no issues going home. We fly. We fly back through Atlanta. Hello, Atlanta. We wave to the Kimpton Hotel, where we both slept in double beds. And then we get on our flight to lax. We land. Our bag makes it. We get to the car, we get in the car, and we drive and we pick up the dogs. And that was the entire wedding trip. And I'll even say Tracy didn't seem traumatized in the slightest. She even seemed like she had, like, kind of a. I wouldn't say a good time. She just, like, wasn't traumatized. How about that? Yeah. Well, I feel like somehow this became a really long episode, and that's okay. It is okay. It's to make up for how bad and short the episode was last week. And now my dog is scratching. Tony, that's. He's scratching on a leather thing now. Come on. If. I don't know if you could hear, but in the past, like, 20 minutes, he's sort of like, get me out of here. He begs to come in here. When I say that I'm going to record a podcast. He. He. His ears perk up, and he runs in here with me. Hey, bro, there's a lot. Okay, listen. He's having intrusive thoughts that he is making into intrusive actions. And so, on that note, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go. It's getting late here. We're gonna have to do an episode of text messages and voicemails from the audience. Also, if you're listening. If. If you're listening to this. Thanks. I was not gonna say that. Host: Adam Rippon
Episode Date: June 4, 2026
In this laugh-out-loud, highly relatable episode, Adam Rippon recounts his cross-country trip to Pennsylvania for his sister’s wedding—a journey worthy of its own reality TV arc. The episode is packed with classic Adam: quick-witted tangents, dog parent adventures, airline woes, competitive travel planning (versus his husband, J.P.), and a cast of colorful characters, from small-town hotel workers to rental car staff. The chaos truly begins with a missed connection in Atlanta, and the resulting domino effect of travel snafus and hilariously awkward encounters.

Adam's storytelling remains self-deprecating, sassy, and endearingly honest. He seamlessly weaves in asides about pop culture, travel, and family, keeping the tone comedic while sharing genuine moments of family joy and small-town Americana. The episode, in Adam’s own words, might not win a Peabody, but it is both cathartic and a field guide to the delightfully unpredictable world of Rippon family travel.
The episode is a comedic masterclass in going with the flow, finding humor in the absurdities of travel, and turning every delay, annoying customer service mishap, or beige salad into dinner-party gold. Perfect for anyone who’s survived family trips, suffered at the hands of airline logistics, or simply loves to hear Adam’s witty take on life’s little disasters.
