Hi, I'm Jacqueline Snyder and this is the Product Boss podcast. I've helped launch and grow thousands of product based businesses, even one of my own. And over the last 20 years, I've seen behind the scenes of businesses just like yours. Whether they are makers, manufacturers, artists, or food and beverage businesses. I have spent so many hours studying it all. I've discovered what makes them successful, what mistakes they could have avoided, how did they turn their ideas into a successful business, and what are the strategies that they have used to make more sales and be discovered by more customers. And this is what this show is all about. Whether you're just starting out or you're looking to become a million dollar product boss, I'm here to give you the permission to chase your dreams, no matter how big or small. All you need is the right mindset, a little courage, strategy and support, and you too can be the next million dollar product boss. Let's do this. Oh my goodness. Friends, if you are anything like me, you probably spend more time running errands than running your business. Am I right? Like, everything needs something, we gotta run around. And I knew that this was like a major issue for me back in the day, which is why I decided to get help where I could. And I decided to let Instacart handle all of my grocery shopping. So I no longer had to worry about running all the errands and having to run out and get more almond milk from lattes. Rather, I was like, you know what, we're just gonna let Instacart handle that. So I want you to imagine skipping the store and getting back to designing packaging, orders, making, or maybe actually taking a break, even a nap. Remember those? Okay, so with Instacart, you can get groceries and essentials delivered in as fast as an hour so you can focus on growing your business without sacrificing a meal. Plus, less stress and more focus. And here's a tip. I've actually used Instacart before to order gifts from my daughter's friend's birthday parties because I haven't had time to run out and get presents. And I've been able to get the packaging like the gift bag and the gift like hel, hello, Sephora. Delivered to my house while I was in the middle of coaching sessions so that I could have the present right. It's like having a personal assistant without having a personal assistant. So if you want to do what I do and get the help where you can, you can try it. Now. If you head to the productboss.com instacart hey friends, and welcome back to another episode of the Product Boss podcast. I'm your host, Jaclyn Seiner and I am so glad that you're here with me today. I have been on a bit of a journey. That's what I'm gonna get into today, the journey that I have been on and then perhaps how what I've kind of been going through, how you can maybe have some takeaways from that and think through how this can support you as well. And what this has been for me is, and I'm sure you've had a very similar feeling is that feeling of not enoughness, right? That self doubt. And I think that feeling not enough is normal. But that concept of how long we're gonna live in that self doubt and giving our power over to someone else, how long we're gonna live in that ve is when we're going to be like, nope, gotta get back on my feet and get going. And so that's what I want to kind of dig into today because it's been a bit of a journey. It's been a wild year and change, I would say. And it feels like it's felt like it's wearing down on me. So you know, like I, I imagine a lot of times I have like visuals and I imagine a rock being like worn down, right? Just being like chipped away at and chipped away at and that's how I've really felt for a good amount of time right now. I think you may know this, but like I dealt with my dad passing away last year in the middle of the summer, you know, buying the business from my co found and trying to keep the business running and performing and doing all the things that it's supposed to do. Bought a house last year, which was beautiful and amazing. My mom is battling cancer, so there's that, right? There's just so many things like life is lifing around me and I'm not saying any of this to feel sad or bad or any of that, but I think actually let me go back actually I think I was, I think before I just went on a retreat and I'm going to dig into kind of what I went on the retreat about. But before I went on this retreat I was feeling like again that rock being chipped away, one thing after the other after the other after the other, just stealing my joy and adding self doubt and feeling not enough and feeling chipped away at. And that's all true. They're all terrible things or wonderful things that have happened. But then after this recent retreat, I went on, it was kind of like I came out of it and I thought, no, this is life. This is the richness of life. This is life lifing. And if I'm going to live this beautiful, wonderful, amazing life, that it's going to be the good and the bad, but it's all together, right? It's the black and the white and the gray in between. That is what life is. A well lived life is to love and lose people that we love but we loved, right? It's to do big scary things like, like buy a company and run it by myself. And it's scary, but also amazing and something I'm learning from, right? Stretching to our limits and buying our dream house and then needing to keep up with what it takes to have that dream house, which is a whole other thing that, you know, people say, well, it's gonna cost more. Like gardening is gonna cost more. Do you know how much my electric is? And I say that because it's things that you didn't even think of, but then, but it stretches you and makes you uncomfortable. It's the same way that when my husband talks about working out to my son, he's like trying to tell my son like, no, no, your muscles should hurt when you work out. And he's like, it's because your muscles are breaking down. And they break down to get stronger. And I think that's a little bit of where I've been. I've been in the breakdown to get stronger. Am I totally out of it? Probably not, but I'm doing better with it. Meaning I'm starting to see the hits. I used to feel like, well, the hits just keep coming. And instead of feeling like the hits just keep coming, I'm going with more of a, well, those hits are coming so that I can doc dodge, learn how to dodge them and, and keep going. So, you know, I was at this retreat, I, I have a mastermind for product bosses that are six to seven figures. But I'm also in masterminds. I've been in them since before I ever started the product boss. But you know, a decade after starting my previous business. So I wasn't always supported, I wasn't always around other people doing similar big amazing things as me, as entrepreneurs, as women and all the things. But I try and get into those rooms because you can feel really alone. I can feel really alone working, you know, with a, with a team that's virtual and you know, community that's virtual and from wherever I am, whether it was my office or my house or wherever I am. And so I'm like, I need to get in the room with people, other successful people with big dreams, audacious. They're thinking big, all the things. So I'm sitting in this room and again that not enoughness was coming up and I was like, do I even know enough? They were all much younger than me. They're all having their babies now and my kids are older and, and I was, God, if only I was like them when I was that young. And then I like slap myself across face and be like, jacqueline, you were like them. I started my company at 26. I had a half million dollar company in my late 20s, early 30s, which was a lot of money back then. And I was having babies. So I was like them. So I'm like, okay, one slap myself across the face and be like, wake up girl. You are, you are her. You're actually a little bit later. And then I had to say, well, where is this not enoughness coming up from? And I realized it's coming from comparing, right? Because compare leads to despair. If you see others as ahead of you and you start to compare, it's like, we're never going to catch up. Thinking that I need to know more, do more, be to be qualified and feeling like everybody else has it figured out, but I don't. And that's come up because yeah, when things happen, things happen. By the way, maybe I'll do a whole other email or podcast on this. I think my email is broken. And I was like, ah, my email is broken. Why is my email not working? It's me, it's me, it's me. And then it's like, no, no, actually I think my email and my deliverability and all these things are actually broken. Which maybe I'll do a whole other podcast on that. So it was like, oh no. I just had to dig deeper and figure, figure out what I need to do. I need to put my head down and figure out what I need to do for myself. Hey, friends. Okay, so I don't know if you wrote anything like me, but sometimes it feels like my self care routine is slipping through the cracks. Because when I'm juggling and wearing all the hats in my business and doing all the things, I mean the last thing I have to do is like really fulfill that self care routine that my daughter's talking about. She's like, mom, so listen, so when it comes to running a successful business, you can't really pour from an empty cup. And a lot of times that self care is like one of the first things to get yourself recalibrate. So that's why I want you to meet Glossy. Now Glossy is my favorite daily beauty supplement designed to transform your skin and gut health from the inside out. And I'm actually an investor in this business because I so believe in this idea of science backed ingredients for digestion and skin hydration. And Glossy makes it really easy to look and feel your best without that whole 10 step routine in the mirror. The thing I don't actually have time for, all I have to do is simply mix the stick into my water and I'm good to go. So if you want to try this because I so believe in this business, I think it's amazing. It's done so many wonders for my skin and my gut, which are two things that I need help with. And you want to simplify your wellness and your beauty. All you have to do is click in the show notes and you can use the code Jaclyn Snyder. So it's my full name. Use the code Jacqueline Snider. And I'm hooking you up with 15% off your order. So cheers to glowing skin and a thriving business. Hey friends, are you unsure of what to say on social media or what to even send in your weekly emails? Well, what if creating content could be easy? Would you be looking for a shortcut to creating consistent content? Yes, consistent content. Because you know, consistency is key. Well, let me tell you, you are not alone when you feel like you're struggling on what to post or what to write in emails. And we know that you have that product part of your business down. But as you're listening to this podcast, you probably already know that to get more people to your products, to buy your products, you need to create great content. Oh, I know, I see. I keep saying content and that's the dreaded C word. And we can't tell you how many product bosses tell us that they want to create great content for their audience and their customers, but they don't know what to say. Or they are so busy they can't find the time, or they really, really, really don't want to be the face of their brand. Well, no worries, because that's exactly why we created a year of content. It is your shortcut to creating consistent content that resonates with your audience and brings more loyal customers who can't wait to buy your products. If you want to see how easy this is and how easy it is to create content for your audience, and your customers head to www.yearofcontent.com. so I'm gonna say that I've been experimenting with plant medicine. And that's one of the things I did this last weekend was I went on this long, epic nature walk with headphones on and this meditation, it was like a 75 minute meditation, a walking meditation to be outside. And it took me through these like leaps in my life. So basically where I am now and the thing that it said that I thought was so cool is that your future dreams will be your memories. I was like, oh my God, that's so cool. Because I used to dream of a future when I had two kiddos, my husband, our dogs in my dream house. And that was my dream. Now I'm in my dream house and they will be my memories, right? How cool is that? And I was like, oh yeah, I gotta just keep dreaming of the future that I want. I gotta just keep dreaming and put my head down, not worry about what everybody else is doing and think, what do I want to do next? What feels right to me for me and my business and my family. And so this meditation was really cool because it kept like jumping you forward again and jumping you forward again. It was almost like I went on, it was a bit of a journey, but I went on this, this journey from self doubt to feeling put back together. In fact, one of the visuals I had was instead of that chipping away at like I was talking about with the rock, it actually feels like I was being reinforced with Lego. I know Lego's weird, but thinking about my son and Lego, it was like, no, no, like everything that happens to me is actually instead happening for me and it's reinforcing me. And this richness of life is reinforcing all of the things that I know, all of the ways that I can show up in this world and serve, all the ways that I can be here on this podcast and speak to you and share, right? Because if my life was like, do, do, do, do, do, I've got nothing new, nothing. If everything was served to me on a silver platter and everything came so easy, what do I have to teach from? So I want you to think about that for yourself as well. I want you to think of if there's a way to go from do I know enough? Am I not enough? The not enoughness part, right? And then actually think. And this is a new, like, redirect I've been doing where I've been kind of doing a double clap or hitting myself in the leg. Twice, Like a little tap, tap. And being like, I am figuring this out. I am figuring this out. I started with I can figure this out. That was my first part. Like, instead of like, I don't know how to figure this out, I went to I can figure this out. And then from there I went to I am figuring this out. So I believe this for all of us. I believe that, you know, that comparison or feeling like someone's more ahead of us or someone else has figured this out or I just have to listen to so much more, so many more podcasts and take so many more courses and do all the things. Yes, I think there's always going to be strategy. The strategy is really important, but the mindset is the most important because you can give the smartest of person strategy. But if they're all up in their head about how they can't do it, they can't see it. They've got their glass ceiling that's like super, super low and they're. They can't see past that, they're really not going to take that to the finish line. Right. They're gonna feel stuck. They're gonna have that limiting belief that keeps them thinking and acting small. So I want you to think about maybe using my affirmation or come up with your own of I am figuring this out. No, enoughness. You are enough. You are, even if you think about it, your dreams from years ago, you are now becoming the memories of your future self. And if you don't like what's happening, then change it and know that you can do it with self doubt and not enoughness and imposter syndrome anyways, because we're always going to have those feelings when we take these big leaps, when new things are kind of presented towards us and things are really uncomfortable. I've had to make some really uncomfortable decisions lately as well. And it takes me a really long time, by the way, to get to the really uncomfortable stuff. Like, I might have known it for a long time, but it takes me a really long time to take action on it. And I think that's a big change that I want to make. So what I'd really like you to do is hear me when I say I too have self doubt. I too feel like an imposter sometimes, or the not enoughness. And the work that I'm doing is to start to go back into me and trust myself and to trust my gut. I've been telling my students this lately, but someone had kind of explained it. But like, your brain lies to you these stories we tell ourselves, our brain keeps us up in our head, but that's actually not where our decisions necessarily should stem from. I'm trying to figure out if I'm saying this right, but, like, what it is is that gut feeling. That feeling in your gut when you're like, no, no. Our brains will override that gut feeling. So can you try and go back into your body and find like, no, you have everything that you need. My husband said this recently. I'm not sure if I shared it on the podcast, but he was at a ret. They said there's two things, two fears that babies are born with. Babies are born with the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. Nothing else. Nothing else. So all these other fears that we have, even the self doubt of not being enough is brought in from somewhere else. It was not. It's not innate in us as humans. When we were babies and we were born and we were learning to walk and crawl and whatever, as a baby, did we ever think, like, we're not enough to be loved? No. We're just babies doing baby things. So the not enoughness is learned and it's just not true. And I know, trust me, because before the weekend, you could have said to me, like, no, no, Jacqueline, you are enough. And I'd be like, no, like, no, These are all the reasons why I'm not. But now, as I've kind of. And you know, I know I brought up plant medicine, but that's just because there's a lot of healing and healing modalities that I'm trying and thinking through, like, different ways to heal trauma from childhood and to heal stuff from my 20s and my 30s and even my 40s. Right? And so the thing for you is that whether, however you choose to do your healing, I think it's going back in and you find a meditation, whether you find a retreat, a podcast, a book, something that's going to help you start to overcome that self doubt. And then I also think with the self doubt is also just the practice of it, right? If you. If you feel like you don't know enough, just start to actually take action and learn. Start to take action. The self doubt is when we sit in the inaction, but when we take action, at least we're learning from it. A baby learns to walk and crawl, right? And they fall down, but they're not like, I suck. I'm never getting back up. I'm never gonna walk again. They get right back up. There's not a loop playing in their brains that they. They shouldn't do that again. So I'm excited for you to start this journey, if you haven't already on realizing that this feeling is actually what's holding you back. And if you can work on your mindset. And again, like, try mine. The pattern interrupted. The two claps. And then I am figuring this out. Two claps. And every time your brain starts to tell you something else. No, no, I am figuring this out. Out. And from that, it's just that little gentle nudge from yourself to say, you've got it, my friend. Okay. You got it, babe. You got it. You're figuring this out, and I know you can. And I think deep down, you know you can, too. So keep coming back to the podcast. Make sure you're subscribed to the show so that you know when we're dropping episodes, but keep coming back, because I'm here to support you with strategy, with business, but also mindset and inspiration and just knowing. Letting you know that you're not alone in these feelings, that. That we all kind of have them. And I wanted to share mine. All right, my friends, until next time.
The Product Boss Podcast - Episode 676: Why Feeling ‘Not Enough’ is Normal—And How to Move Past It
Release Date: March 24, 2025
Host: Jacqueline Snyder
In Episode 676 of The Product Boss Podcast, Jacqueline Snyder delves deep into the pervasive feeling of "not enoughness" that many entrepreneurs face. Drawing from her personal experiences and professional insights, Jacqueline offers a heartfelt discussion on understanding, embracing, and overcoming self-doubt to thrive both personally and in business.
Jacqueline begins by acknowledging a common struggle among entrepreneurs: the persistent sense of inadequacy and self-doubt. She states, "Feeling not enough is normal, but how long we're gonna live in that self-doubt and giving our power over to someone else, that's when we're gonna be like, nope, gotta get back on my feet and get going" (02:15).
Jacqueline shares candidly about a tumultuous year and a half marked by significant personal and professional challenges. She recounts the passing of her father, acquiring a business from her co-founder, purchasing a new home, and her mother's battle with cancer. These events collectively contributed to her feeling "chipped away" like a rock being worn down (05:30).
Despite these hardships, Jacqueline emphasizes the importance of recognizing both the good and the bad aspects of life. She reflects, "This is life. This is the richness of life. This is life living. And if I'm going to live this beautiful, wonderful, amazing life, that it's going to be the good and the bad, but it's all together" (12:45).
Seeking clarity and support, Jacqueline attended a retreat with a mastermind group for successful entrepreneurs. Surrounded by driven individuals, she initially struggled with feelings of inadequacy, particularly when seeing younger peers balancing family and business. This culminated in a moment of self-realization where she reminded herself of her accomplishments, saying, "You are her. You're actually a little bit later" (18:20).
At the retreat, Jacqueline confronted the root of her not enoughness: comparison. She acknowledges, "Compare leads to despair. If you see others as ahead of you and you start to compare, it's like, we're never going to catch up" (22:10). This insight was pivotal in shifting her mindset from one of scarcity to one of abundance and self-acceptance.
Jacqueline discusses the detrimental effects of comparing oneself to others. She emphasizes that comparison often stems from feeling like one needs to "know more, do more, be more," leading to a perpetual sense of inadequacy. To combat this, she introduces a powerful affirmation technique: "I am figuring this out" (31:05).
By repeating this affirmation, Jacqueline suggests that entrepreneurs can reframe their internal dialogue from self-doubt to self-empowerment. She shares her personal practice of double-clapping or tapping herself while affirming, "I am figuring this out," reinforcing her belief in her capacity to overcome challenges (35:50).
Acknowledging the constant juggle of responsibilities, Jacqueline highlights the critical role of self-care in maintaining business success and personal well-being. She introduces Glossy, her favorite daily beauty supplement, as a simple yet effective way to support skin and gut health without sacrificing time (40:00). This segment underscores the necessity of replenishing oneself to pour effectively into both business and personal life.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to actionable strategies for overcoming feelings of not being enough. Jacqueline encourages listeners to:
Embrace Action Over Inaction: She asserts that taking action, even amidst self-doubt, fosters growth and diminishes feelings of inadequacy. "The self-doubt is when we sit in the inaction, but when we take action, at least we're learning from it" (52:30).
Trusting Your Gut: Jacqueline differentiates between the misleading narratives of the brain and the intuitive guidance of the gut. She advises, "Can you try and go back into your body and find like, no, no, you have everything that you need" (57:10).
Affirmations and Positive Reinforcement: Repeating affirmations like "I am figuring this out" helps rewire the mindset from one of limitation to one of possibility.
Engaging in Healing Practices: Whether through meditation, retreats, or other healing modalities, Jacqueline emphasizes the importance of addressing and healing underlying traumas that contribute to self-doubt (59:45).
Jacqueline wraps up the episode by reiterating that feelings of self-doubt and not being enough are universal among entrepreneurs, especially when embarking on significant ventures. She offers reassurance and encouragement, stating, "If you can work on your mindset... you've got it, my friend. You got it. You're figuring this out, and I know you can" (1:05:20).
She urges listeners to continue tuning into The Product Boss Podcast for ongoing support, strategies, and inspiration, reinforcing the message that they are not alone in their struggles.
Recognition is the First Step: Acknowledging feelings of not being enough is crucial for initiating change.
Comparison is Counterproductive: Comparing oneself to others can lead to despair and hinder personal growth.
Affirmations Empower: Positive affirmations like "I am figuring this out" can shift mindset from self-doubt to self-confidence.
Action Over Inaction: Taking steps forward, despite uncertainties, fosters growth and reduces feelings of inadequacy.
Self-Care is Essential: Prioritizing self-care supports both personal well-being and business success.
Trust Your Intuition: Listening to your gut can guide you through uncertainties better than overanalyzing scenarios.
