She encourages listeners to stop chasing quick fixes, focus on becoming the person they want to be, and embrace the repetitive, often unglamorous work required to create lasting results. Rachel emphasizes that consistency compounds over time and challenges listeners to return to something they’ve repeatedly given up on by taking one small step every day.

Welcome back guys. We are here for a new edition in our Better this Week series, which as the name implies is a weekly session I do here on the show where we talk about how we can improve one area of our life this week. So it's not about big picture long term. It's all about tips and tricks to improve quickly, to actually get some quick wins so you can feel some momentum. So we meet here every Wednesday for these episodes, but this episode is a little bit different. But because if you couldn't tell based on the title, this is a very big episode for the Rachel Hollis podcast. This is number 1000. I wonder if I have sound effects. Nope. I mean, I'm hitting buttons and nothing is happening on my soundboard. So sadly, the bells and whistles I was hoping for there did not show up. But just imagine that there was some kind of fanfare. I booked Bruno Mars. He came in and performed for us at the concert. Like it's a big deal to make it to number 1000. And if we're being accurate, it's actually number 1000. Since we started numbering the episodes, we actually did about a hundred episodes of the show before I knew you were supposed to add a number. I only really figured that out because I would want to reference something. I would say, oh, hey, go back and listen to the episode I did about confidence. But then I couldn't tell the audience which number that was. I'd say, like, scroll back into until you see a confidence. No, it was terrible. But it was also, you know what, 2017. I didn't know what I was doing. But now I'd like to say a thousand episodes in. I have a pretty good idea. There's actually a crazy statistic about this. Right now. Today, there are roughly 4.8 million podcasts. Okay, 4.8 million podcasts. I'm talking shows. Shows, not, like, individual episodes. There are 4.8 million people, entities, businesses, who have come up with a podcast. And this statistic is crazy. Only 36% of those podcasts will ever make it to episode 10. I'm going to say it one more time. For the people in the cheap seats, for the people in the back, only 36% of podcasts will ever do more than 10 episodes of a show. And here we are officially at number 1000. That is freaking huge. That is crazy. We've been doing this for almost 10 years. We are over a thousand episodes. So I had to theme this week's podcast episode to what it takes to get to a thousand. I'm using air quotes. You can't see me, but a thousand for me, a thousand podcast episodes for me could be you losing the last £15 that you've been trying to lose for the last 10 years. For you, it could be health, it could be business, it could be relationships. It could be showing up at a higher vibration, practicing your faith at a stronger level. It does not matter what it is. Whatever we're trying to get to looks like putting in the hours. You've heard that term, 10,000 hours, baby. I got 10,000 hours easily doing this work of podcasting, being a writer, being a mama. So I feel like I have a pretty good handle on what it takes to push through and get results. And what I'll tell you right here at the top of this episode is this one's going to be super motivational, but also some tough love, okay? Because here is my theory, and this is counterintuitive to what you are going to find on all over social media. There is no shortcut in the long game, okay? There never was one. There isn't going to be one. There is no quick fix. There is no magic bullet. There is no magic pill. And once you actually accept that, everything gets so much simpler. Now, notice I didn't say everything gets easier. It doesn't. It's always going to be difficult to change your life for the better. But it does get simpler. Having something in your life being simple, having it be clear, having it be cut or dry, black or white, makes it so much more possible to get where you are trying to go. So here is my central thesis to today's episode. It is always going to be the work. I'm going to say it plainly. I'm going to say it over and over so you can't miss it. Everything you actually want. The better body, the better business, the marriage that feels exciting and new even though you've been together for a decade. The peace, the confidence that you want when you walk into the room. Whatever it is that you want, it has exactly one path. And it is not a secret. And it has never been hidden from you, so you don't have to keep searching. The path is that you do the unglamorous, repetitive, usually boring work and you do it consistently for longer than feels fair. Especially on the days you don't want to. That's it. That's the whole secret. If you are looking for the quick fix, baby, I am not the podcast host for you. I don't have a quick fix. I don't have the super sneaky way to get there. I am here for a community of people who are dedicated to doing the work, who do the work long enough to see the results, to experience that effort exponential like hockey stick moment on the graph where a year of consistency overnight changes your whole freaking life. That's how it goes. It's slowly and slowly and then suddenly all at once. That's why people on the outside looking in perceive it as an overnight success. Because when you actually experience the massive life changing, holy crap moments, they do happen quickly, but they happen after you put in a lot of effort that nobody sees and nobody claps for. I know this feels super hard to accept, especially if you have started working on yourself and your personal development in the last handful of years. Because in the last handful of years and it has gotten extremely popular to make content on social media. Okay, let's just, let's unpack this real quick. It is so popular to make content. There's all of these people, they are content creators. It's awesome. It's entertaining, it's helpful, it's educational. Here's the problem. The problem, and you and I both know this, even if you're not a content creator, the problem is, is that if you want to make your living creating content for people, you are absolutely going to pay attention to which content people like more. All right? You're going to pay attention to which videos of yours. Get more views, have more comments, have more engagement, get more likes. So is the algorithm. The algorithm is going to reward you for the things that people like more. And coming off the backside of a global pandemic, something that was so freaking hard for everybody, there is this swing to things being more gentle, to things not being as difficult, to things being easier to come by. And I understand this. I really do. Coming out the other side of grief and hard things, this is a natural human tendency, and it is the right thing for us. I think, as a human, if you've just gone through something really difficult, and this could be true for you in your life right now, if you're coming out the other side of something really difficult, I don't think that's the season to push and grind and, you know, go too much and do too much. I think it's a time to plant your roots, to replenish, to grow. Just like there are seasons in nature, there are seasons in our lives. The problem is that it's 2026. We're in the summer of 2026. It's been six years. Okay, let's say the pandemic was longer. Let's say it lasted a year. Okay, it's been five years since the pandemic. But the results and what that did to us culturally, those things are still around. So I can tell you unequivocally that people have responded more in the last five years to things that told them it shouldn't be that hard, that you shouldn't have to work so hard to work out, that you shouldn't have to try so hard with your nutrition, that you shouldn't have to hustle and grind for your business. Okay? Those are the things that became more popular. And everybody gets to chart their own path, right? That is the beauty of this life, that is the freedom of this life, is that you get to decide how to live it. But here's the thing. If you continue to keep looking for the easiest path, you are going to continue to get results that equate to the fact that you took the easy road, or maybe even more so, you keep kind of switching halfway through your path because you keep going, oh, wait, wait, this person is saying that I can do it this way and this person's saying that there's a pill and this person's saying there's a shot and this person's saying there's this and that and the other thing and we just keep changing, changing, changing. We never actually feel finish the single race that we started. You have to do the work. The pendulum always swings in one direction and it is swung in this extreme direction of it shouldn't be that hard. But the problem is I don't see anyone experiencing consistent long term results by taking the easy road. You might get short term gains, but I don't know a single person who is experiencing long term consistent success without doing real work. So if all the evidence points to the fact that there is a way to get what you want, but is counterintuitive to what you are seeing in media, I want the results, not the feel good stuff. I want the results, not the things that are going to look cute on Instagram. What we're going to talk about today is what it actually takes from my perspective as someone who has experienced big success in my career, in my health, in my relationships, in my finances, but never, ever without work. My motto, my saying to my kids is it never comes easy to me, but it does come. It never comes easy, but it does come. And can I add one more little interesting story that this feels so relevant to right now? I recently went to a retreat. Okay. I had gone to Hoffman, you remember I told y', all, I went to the Hoffman process back in early March and I met some amazing people. And one of the women that I met there also loves a retreat, loves personal development stuff. So we had committed that we would go to a retreat together at some point before the end of the year. So we'd been looking for a retreat to go and we kind of didn't care what it was. We just wanted it to be something we knew. We wanted to make healthy choices at this retreat. We wanted to meditate while we were there. We had like really loose outlines of what the retreat should be and we wanted it to be at a beautiful hotel or facility. We wanted to go, have a nice time. So we were looking, looking, looking. We find this thing, very beautiful resort and a retreat that was run by someone neither of us had ever heard of. This is your first red flag, but neither of us had ever heard of the person who was running this retreat. But topic of the retreat seemed like something we would like. And it was at A place that seemed like it would be something we were into. So we were like, ah, whatever. We're go with the flow. We'll go try and go to this retreat. And we get to the retreat the very first day and the the big second red flag was that everybody at the retreat kept saying, oh, how do you know blank? Who is the person who is throwing the retreat? How do you know them? And we would say, oh, we don't know them. We literally googled and we found this. And people would look at us like we were crazy. They were like, you don't know blank. You don't know them. And we're like, no, no, no, no. We, we just saw that there was a retreat. We thought it'd be fun. Here we are. This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. We realized pretty quickly that this is a retreat for someone who has a fairly big social following and they are famous in their following for the topic of this retreat. And everybody who is there is a hardcore fan of this person. And we're like, whoa, that's wild. Like we, we literally have never heard of them. We go to the first class because there's like sessions throughout this weekend. We go to the first class and immediately we're like, oh no. Because she and I have been going to retreats for over a decade, both of us separately. We both have kind of different areas of interest, but we've been able to go to retreats with some of the most well known teachers in personal development or spirituality in the last 10 years. And we've gone to these retreats with people who have spent decades honing their craft and they really know how to teach it and they're really well known. On the flip side, we happen to find ourselves at an influencer retreat for someone who's new. So this person gets up in front of the group and they say, you know, I discovered this topic about five years ago and these are the things that I've learned. And you know, I remember what it's like to be a new teacher to something and you're learning your skills and you're figuring things out. But. But what I very quickly understand is this person is not yet in a place in their journey where they should be teaching and they're definitely not in a place where they should be charging astronomical sums of money to teach the subject. And I'm going to be honest with you, I fell for it. I saw the price that they were charging and the location of the event and I thought that that meant that they had earned their stripes. You know, I thought, well, I haven't heard of this person, but they must be good since they're at this place and they're charging this much money and it just isn't true. It is 1 million percent just audacity. Which as a side note is a hell of a business practice to just have the audacity to say I to charge what the really well known people charge. And I can teach it, I'm sure I can teach it. And I don't even shame that, right? Because like if you have a group of fans and they want to hang out with you at a retreat and they're willing to pay that much money. Cool. You do you. What I do have an issue with, and what I actually like, really struggle with is that there were a large group of people there who I very quickly understood were new to this. This was their first retreat, or the first time that they put themselves out there, or the first time they tried to work on something in their lives. And so they have no concept of how it's supposed to be or how you're supposed to be taught or what actually gets you results. And so they're listening to this person who doesn't have a ton of experience and is just kind of saying, you could do it this way, you could do it that way, you could try it. And so we would go to every sort of lunch or breakfast or session and we'd be surrounded by people and they'd be so confused. Well, wait, what does this mean? And why did they talk about that and how. And I was like, oh my God, these people are going to leave here more confused than they came in. And you know me, you know me. I was like, girl, give me 30 minutes, let me pop up there, give me 30 minutes. I'll tell you exactly what you. But of course it's not my thing. So I did a day. It was a three day retreat, I did a day. And we left. We literally left. We came home to my house, we spent the weekend with my kids and my husband. And. And we incorporated elements of what we were hoping for at this retreat into our weekend. So we meditated together, we involved the kids, we did journaling sessions, we asked questions. We did this sort of like family retreat, which ended up being awesome. But my big takeaway from that is this reaffirmation of how many people y' all right now are on social media or the Internet and they're just making things up. They are 100% making things up and telling you how they do it and telling you how you can get it too, based on nothing. And if you do not have your own discernment, if you do not have your own experiences, you will take in what they are selling and believe it's true. And when you don't get the results that you want, you don't blame that person. You blame yourself. You think there's something wrong with you because you didn't get the results they were talking about in two weeks. It's not how it works. If anyone is trying to sell you the fact that you can have the life that you want with minimal effort, babe, they're selling you something. Because oftentimes we Would rather invest money than energy. And what that results in is so much wasted time. Yes. Also wasted money. But what I think is way more dangerous is you losing the next two years of your life. I don't want you to lose any more time. I want you to come to terms with the fact that the things that you want will require your effort and your energy. They will likely be boring. They will likely be difficult because you cannot stay inside that comfort zone and have a different life than the one that you currently have created in that space. Okay. What happens is actually something that I'm going to call the shortcut tax. The shortcut tax, because there are so many people, including me. I just did it because I paid for this retreat. I'm not going to ask for my money back. That's my fault. I'm like, you know what? I fell for it. I went to this thing. Now I left. Because I'm like, I refuse to sit here and pretend that you know what you're talking about. I would have done that 20 years ago. I'm not that girl anymore. I refuse to let you tell me when I actually know better. But we do this, and it's not stupidity, right? It's not that we're not smart. It's that shortcuts are being sold to us constantly. People are selling us all of these ways that we can sneak to the front of the line, and they're really good at what they do. It is no surprise to me that this person started the retreat and said, you. This is information I found five years ago. I've really gotten into it. I used to be fill in the blank, and the role was a salesman. Their job had been to sell things to people completely unrelated to what they were now teaching. And I've discovered this path, and the path is good, and I have mastered it, and now I'm going to sell it to you. There is no mistaking the fact that there are lots of people who are really good at selling you the problem that you didn't know you had and the fact that they are the only ones with the solution to it. The pitch is always the same. You can have the result without paying the price of the process. And here's what nobody will tell you when they're trying to sell you the shortcut. Chasing the shortcut does not save you time. It costs you time. In fact, chasing the shortcut costs you more time than just doing the work would have cost you. Almost always, I want you to think of this as the shortcut tax. So every time that you abandon the boring, hard working process for the exciting new hack, for the new program, for the new guru who finally gets it. You are not skipping the line. You're not. You are resetting your clock back to zero. And you, you are paying the startup costs all over again, right? So you have to learn a new way of doing it. So you've got the learning curve. You've got that awkward beginning where you're trying to figure it out. You've got the part where you're bad at it before the you get good at it. Meanwhile, the person who just kept doing the unglamorous version, the one who didn't jump ship every single time it got hard or boring or slow, they never had to pay that tax, not even once. But they kept accumulating. Now, their wins might have been small, but their wins were real and their wins were consistent. And their wins can stack one on top of another. In two years, that person who's still doing the boring thing has lapped you over and over again because you keep stopping and to chase the shortcut every single time. Or how about this? You might not just be chasing the shortcut in one area. You're like, I just want improvement. I kind of don't care where it comes from. I just want to feel like I'm getting better. So you're like on this path for your health, but then you hear a cool shortcut about improving your business. You abandon the health journey altogether. You jump over here into business. You work on that for the next four months. Ooh, wait, there's this nutrition plan that really adorable 20 year old gal with 7% body fat just told me on TikTok that I could get. Okay, actually I'm going to focus on. And you just keep doing that. Raise your hand if I am reading your diary. Raise your hand if I'm talking to you. I love my phone but not my carrier. What do I do? Well, there are 250 reasons to join T Mobile. Like what? You can keep your phone and your number and T Mobile helps pay it off. Up to $800 per line. We one upped ourselves with my Sapphire Preferred card and with 5 times points on Cheers, Chase Travel, plus 3 times points on vacation homes with top brands. We got this incredible cabin. It was a mansion. And with three times the points on dining. We ordered a wagyu steak dinner and that pistachio gelato was too good. So where should we go next year? I've got ideas. Chase Sapphire Preferred, the card that's preferred for a reason. Cards issued by JPMorgan Chase bank and a member FDIC subject to credit approval terms apply. The boring path, the consistent path. It is the process. If every single person that you admire, and I am not talking about people who you have just heard of in the last six months, I am talking about people who have years of work to show. Years. And it doesn't mean that they have years of content, if they do, that's amazing. But they have years. They can show you years of effort. They can show you 1,000 freaking episodes. They can show you millions of books sold. They can show you all of these things, whatever it is, whatever the category. You want to train for a marathon, you're going to go listen to a marathon coach and they're like, I just ran my first 10k. That's not the coach for you, babe. Maybe they've got fun ideas, maybe they're entertaining. Have them in your mix. But if you're actually going to take advice from someone, take advice from the grizzled old goat who's running 30 marathons and he's that guy who wears the, like, shoes that look like feet and he doesn't have the special gear. He just, like, knows how to run a marathon. That's who we want our advice from. We don't want flashy, we want results. Stop paying the tax. Here's the other thing you need to understand to get into this mindset this week. You must choose identity over motivation. You must choose identity over motivation. This is what is your identity? Who are you trying to become? And how can that vision of your future self pull you forward even when you don't feel like it? This is not about motivation. You are very rarely going to be motivated consistently. But the vision of who you are becoming, the vision of who you want to become, that is powerful. Motivation is going to ask you if you feel like doing it today. Okay? The answer most of the time is probably going to be no. So you will lose that fight constantly if you are waiting to feel like doing the thing in order to do it. The cool thing about identity is that it asks a completely different question. Identity asks, is this what someone who shows up every day does with their time. I told this to my teenagers the other night. We were talking about college and like, all the things they want to do with their lives and all the things they want to achieve. And I was like, boys, I'm going to tell you something and you're most likely going to brush off what I'm saying. And I'm going to keep telling this to you. And at some point in your life, I don't know when it is, but, but at some point in your life, this is gonna ring true for you. And when it does, you have the keys to unlock whatever you want. Here it is. You think of the person that you wanna be a year from now. You think of the man that you wanna be a year from now, right? The woman you wanna be a year from now. And then you ask yourself, what's that person doing a year from now? It's a Wednesday. How are they going about their day? What are they doing? What does their body look like? Who are their friends? Who, what are the calls they're making? Who do they get to talk to? You paint a whole picture of their life, right? And at this point, my 17 year old's like, I know, I know. And then you, you use that. And I was like, no, actually, no. You imagine that person a year from now, and then you ask this question, what did they do today that I did not do? What did they do today? And from that question, you're going to get a list. Well, that person looks fantastic. They definitely worked out, they definitely ate well, they definitely did this. They definitely made those calls. And that's your punch list. And if every single day you do the things that that person's doing every single day, you will be that person. And it'll take far, far less than a year to get there. The people who get to their version of 1000 of anything, a thousand workouts, a thousand sales calls, a thousand pages, a thousand episodes of a podcast, are not the ones who felt like doing it every day. You have got to get that out of your head. I do not feel like recording episodes every day for the last decade. I do not feel like writing the pages. I do not feel like working out. I do not feel like eating zucchini and broccoli and eggs for breakfast. I don't feel like it, but I do it. The people who get results are the ones who quietly stopped asking for motivation and started asking about their identity instead. I was talking to a friend recently who several years ago had told me that they were going on a GLP1. And this is not a debate about GLP1s. I've had lots of conversations about that. You got to do your own thing. You got to follow your own path. You got to do your own stuff. But I do want to tell you this because I find it really interesting. A couple years ago, this person tells me that they're going on Ozempic, and it is someone who has struggled with their health, and it is someone who was ready for that choice, right? And when they told me, because I care about them a lot, I was like, oh, man. That. Like, we don't know a lot about that medicine yet. Because this was a couple years back. We don't know a lot about that medicine. Are you sure you want to. Wait a minute. You want to see? Oh, no. My doctor told me it was fine, and I'm feeling great and I've already lost some weight. And I was like, okay, just like, we really, like, it's so new. Are you sure? And I remember this person was like, I. What are you talking about? Like, they acted like I was so weird for questioning this choice of theirs. And then, hey, this is your journey. This is your life. You go do your thing. Fast forward a couple years. And they told me recently that after a couple years, they were going off of it. They had had all of this pain for the last couple years, all this pain in their body. They said, you know, and I only ever lost £20 in two years. I only ever lost £20 and had had pain and had this other stuff. And they said, you know, and I didn't. It never even occurred to me that the pain that had showed up in my body was Ozempic. I went on this medicine and I started just having all of this pain. And some people have great results, some people have bad side effects, but it never occurred to them that this was the problem until they went off of it. And all of a sudden, the pain they'd experienced for two years went away. And they say, and I only lost 20 pounds, so what am I doing? And I'm thinking to myself, for this person, for any. I'm like, I could tell you what to do right now, and you would lose £20 and you would keep it off consistently, and it would take you a couple months to get there, probably quicker, to be honest. And it's gonna be boring, but you won't be hungry. You know, that's the. That's the worst thing that you can be. You get yourself on a diet, it's too restrictive, and you're Starving. But I can tell you exactly what to do. And you're gonna eat the same food over and over, and you're going to move your body every day and you're going to drink water and honestly probably lose way more than that. And you'll feel better and you'll have less inflammation and you're not going to have the medicine. Two years, guys, two years they had pain in their body because they're trying with love in my heart. You don't want the thing that's hard, probably because you've tried the hard thing a hundred, a thousand times in your life and you haven't got the result. And so it's like, oh, it's. I know this is the same person who will tell me, well, I know exactly what to do to lose weight. You and I have had this conversation before. You think that you know exactly what to do to get the results, but if you don't have the results, then you don't know exactly what to do. Is it possible, guys, Is it possible that you are not carrying out the effort as long as you need to? Is it possible that to change your body takes months, not weeks, but if you actually committed to a couple of months, you'd see results that would change your entire psychology about what's possible. Is it possible that it's going to take six months to get the revenue that you really want in your business, but that once you figure that out, you will never go back to living paycheck to paycheck? Is it possible that you are not putting in consistent effort because you keep looking for the faster option? There is no faster option. I am never going to give you the advice about how to skip the line. I don't know how to do that. I don't know how to skip the line. I love the concept of manifesting and calling things into your life. I love that idea. But it still requires that you meet the universe halfway. The Bible says faith without works is dead. You can't just have the idea. You have to actually do things to get where you want to go. Or don't change. Don't change. Don't get the results. Don't have a different life. Don't experience the joy of that. Don't experience the. There are so many ways that you can keep fooling yourself into thinking that you have it when you don't. And the way that you know whether or not you have it is whether or not you have it a couple weeks from now. What I mean by that is it's really easy to convince yourself that you're living right. You do a couple days in a row, you're feeling good, you go watch some videos on YouTube that affirm who you're trying to be. Do you still feel like that two weeks from now? Are you still consistent next month? Or are you constantly starting and stopping? Because if you don't have momentum, you don't have it. And for clarity, momentum does not mean that we don't miss a day. Momentum doesn't mean that there aren't sometimes low seasons, that you don't have sick days, that you don't need rest. This is not about grind at all. Consistency is not grind. Consistency is not burning yourself out. Consistency is showing up for your life every day and understanding that it's not going to be quick. You can miss. Just never miss two days in a row, you know, never miss twice. I want to say that's probably atomic habits. Maybe Adam Grant, I don't know. One of those guys wrote about the concept of never missing twice. And it is powerful and it's an easy way to. To stick with it. Never missing twice means that you make it more normal to stand back up and go again than to stay down. When I was younger, I would fall off track, and I could fall off track for months. And then when I started to work at it, I would fall off track, but it would be for weeks, right? And then more time would go by and I'd fall off track, but maybe it's for a couple days, and then I'm back at it. Now I might fall off track for an hour and I'm back in the game. Of course you're going to fall off track. You're a human being. And if you're listening to my podcast, you're probably a human being with a uterus, which means you're a different person every week of the month. Sometimes you're going to feel uber motivated. Sometimes you're going to feel really low. All of those things are factors that play into this. But can you normalize how quickly it is for you to come back online? Make it more normal, the act of rising back up, than staying there on the ground? So here's what I actually want you to do this week. And it's small, but it's small on purpose. I want you to think of something that you have quit on more than once. Whatever just popped up into your spirit. That's the thing we're working with. Your instinct is going to be like, oh, no, not that thing. Do this thing over here. That's Easier to get a result? Nope. Whatever came to mind the second that I said it. You know, your nutrition, your workout plan, the business idea, the book, the relationship that you almost gave repair but never quite do. The habit that you've started over and over 12 times. I don't want you to finish it this week. I'm not asking you to accomplish that thing. I am asking you to do one rep. One rep. One boring thing that nobody's going to see and nobody's going to clap for. One boring rep against the thing that you are trying to build up to just one single piece of evidence that you can do at least that much. And then I'm going to ask you to get up the next day and I'm going to ask you to do it again. And then you're going to wake up the next day and you're going to do it again. You see where this is going? 1,000 podcast episodes. And I will go ahead and say it because if you're still with me here, man, you are looking for motivation. 1000 podcast episodes is worth millions of dollars. Millions of dollars that I have made doing this show. And I do not say that to be obnoxious and I do not say that to sort of toot my own horn. I am telling you that because you need to understand that for many, many, many years, many hundreds of podcast episodes, there was no money. And then there was a little bit of money, and then there was more, and then there was more. And it's exponential. And the same is true for this thing that you are trying to build. It's little bits and pieces at a time, and then suddenly, all at once, everything changes. The people you admire at the highest levels, not the ones with a cute Instagram, not the ones who are, you know, showing you, like a beautiful aesthetic day in the life, grateful for that content. That's not who I'm talking about. I'm talking about the people at the top of their field who have held the position for years. Those people have done the reps. And if the difference between where you are and where they are is the amount of effort, that's it, baby. You gotta get to work. Because everybody can put in their version of effort. Literally everyone. And I hope, I hope that I have encouraged you today to get back in this game and to understand that there is no shortcut here. If you are looking for a place to hang out, if you're looking for a buddy to be in the work with you, I am your girl. That is what we are doing here. This is not about the quick fix. It's why you hear me say a lot of the same. For 10 years, I've been telling you guys the same advice. I fully believe that my job here is not to reinvent the wheel. I fully believe that my job is to communicate in stories and different things and techniques and life events and all of this stuff. But I'm just saying the same stuff over and over because on a particular day, something's going to click for you, it's going to hit you in a way it hasn't, and then everything starts to go from there. Consistency compounds. Consistency compounds. In fact, if you need to take a deeper dive on this, I'm going to remind you that this month's episode of the premium podcast. Premium podcast costs $10 per per month. $10. I know not everybody has 10 extra dollars a month, but many of you do. $10 a month means all of the podcasts absolutely ad free, plus one Deep Dive episode this month. Focus. One full hour video podcast with a workbook all about how to get focus, all about how to laser in on what you're trying to do. It's a really nice companion for this conversation we've had today. If you are a premium podcast, you haven't yet watched that video. Babe, what are we doing? What are we doing? Okay, let's get after it. I totally understand if right now in your life you don't feel like you are a person who wants to put in the consistent effort. I get it. I have been there. If that's not this season for you, I love you anyway and I wish you well. But if you are someone who is freaking tired of doing the same thing over and over, I don't have any pill to give you. I don't have any quick fix. I don't have any special process you can buy from me. I'm just telling you I'm here doing the work. I'm telling you that you know exactly what you're supposed to be doing to get there. You know exactly what you need to do. You just don't want to do it. And when you confront the fact that that you are what is in your way, when you confront the fact that you are the answer to your problems, it might not be easy, but boy, does it become simpler. All right, guys, that is it for today's episode. I do want to take a quick second and thank you for 1,000 podcast episodes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, from me as a mama. Host: Rachel Hollis
In this milestone 1000th episode, Rachel Hollis marks nearly a decade of podcasting by breaking down what it really takes to reach any big goal—what she calls your “1000.” Using her ten-year journey as a podcaster as a lens, Rachel challenges listeners to drop the constant pursuit of shortcuts and instant gratification in self-improvement and pursue what truly works: consistent, sometimes boring, sustained effort. The episode is both motivational and offers a dose of tough love, pushing listeners to stop seeking easy fixes and embrace the long, unglamorous path to meaningful success.
“Only 36% of podcasts will ever make it to episode 10. And here we are officially at number 1000. That is freaking huge.” (05:10)
"There is no shortcut in the long game. There never was one. There isn't going to be one." (07:25)
“Now, notice I didn't say everything gets easier. It doesn't. It's always going to be difficult to change your life for the better. But it does get simpler.” (08:00)

"Chasing the shortcut costs you more time than just doing the work would have cost you. Almost always, I want you to think of this as the shortcut tax." (26:00)
“You must choose identity over motivation. This is not about motivation. You are very rarely going to be motivated consistently. But the vision of who you are becoming, that is powerful.” (33:20)
“If every single day you do the things that that person's doing every single day, you will be that person. And it'll take far, far less than a year to get there.” (35:10)
“It's little bits and pieces at a time, and then suddenly, all at once, everything changes.” (50:52)

This episode is a manifesto on the power of perseverance, consistency, and real work in a world that too often values quick fixes over true transformation. If you’re ready to stop starting over, get out of your own way, and make real progress, this one’s for you.
