Kevin Gates
Where was it? Nah, you ain't got even, do I. I. I'm gonna be late. Go ahead, give me get my weather together. Come on. That. Look at her. She. It. It's somewhere on me. I was gonna tell you to grab my pink phone so I could tell my mother that I'm gonna be a little bit later. She ain't gonna get no.
Bobby
It'S really good.
Kevin Gates
I need. I need to call my mom. Thank you. Hi, mother in her Spanish accent.
Bobby
Hi, Duke.
Kevin Gates
Mother tell me I'm gonna be a little. I'm gonna be a little late for dinner, but I'm still coming. I'm still coming. I just started and I can't really talk like I want to because they got me under investigation and surveillance. Yeah. I got a microphone on, so don't you know, man, that's the best thing. Yeah. So look, this is what. This is what I'm gonna do after I finish eating. I'm coming. Esther rate to you, but papa is going to be very late. She's going to. I don't give a damn what it's going to be. I. I told you. If I give you my word I honor the commitments that I. What I utter with my mouth, my actions must prove. So if I get. I was in another meeting that went a little bit longer before we closed out, so that's why I was late to this. And I'm going to come tonight. Okay, love you. Bye. Okay, bye.
Bobby
Follows your mom.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Yeah, my bad. Forgive me. So not sorry.
Bobby
No, that's. That's fine. It's a great conversation to over overhear. Are you close with your mom?
Kevin Gates
No, we had an. We're closer now, but we had an estranged relationship because she had me at such a young age.
Bobby
And how old was she?
Kevin Gates
She's super young. Like, she look like she like 17 right now. Yeah, like, my mom is super young. So, like I have like professional baseball players that be asking like, is it cool if I date your mom? I didn't know that was your mom. I won't say anything publicly because she don't want to be known and famous and nothing like that.
Bobby
But what do you say when they ask you that?
Kevin Gates
I say I'm. I support whatever makes her happy.
Bobby
How have you helped her dating?
Kevin Gates
Oh, we already started, of course. Oh, my bad. I support whatever makes her happy. Yeah.
Bobby
Well, it's nice of you to help her date. It's nice of you to help her with it.
Kevin Gates
It's not for me. It's not for her. It's for me. Like, I'm. Like, it's part of my healing journey. Like, me fixing a relationship with my mother.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Like, it's part of me healing. I'm being a bigger person.
Bobby
Got it.
Kevin Gates
Cause it's easy for us to get stuck in things that hurt us, and we stay away from it and we never face it. But that's all ego. Ego is beautiful because it keeps us safe. It protects us from the things that hurt us. But we still have to go back to the root of the problem. So that's me just, like, healing like, it's beautiful. The world get to watch me heal, and I'm like, I'm completely transparent and I'm completely vulnerable because it take more courage to be vulnerable than it do to walk around being tough all the time. So I can. Hi, mom. Bye, mom. Love you, mom. And I understand that mothers aren't perfect. They do the best that they.
Bobby
It's true. Are you.
Kevin Gates
They do the best that they can.
Bobby
I'm a mom. I'm trying my best.
Kevin Gates
I'm a dad and a daddy.
Bobby
Okay. Good for you.

Welcome to the really good podcast.
Kevin Gates
I'm like super dead. I pride myself on being it.
Bobby
Yeah. Are you a good. How old are your kids today?
Kevin Gates
I'm here with Kevin, the oldest. I got. I got five children. I got five children.
Bobby
I Got five children.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I got two that's 21. And I got two that's 13.
Bobby
How do you have 21 year old kids? How old are you?
Kevin Gates
On paper I'm 39, but I'm really immortal. I'm Ancient Poppins. I'm immortal. So I've been here since the beginning and I have no beginning or end.
Bobby
Okay, you're immortal. Amazing. God, right? Is that the only other person?
Kevin Gates
Oh my God. You just said. Did you just call me God?
Bobby
I may have. I may have.
Kevin Gates
Oh no.
Bobby
Oh, it's just felt like that's where that was.
Kevin Gates
Touched my little soul when you said that. Thank you. Forgive me.
Bobby
So welcome. I didn't realize you were old enough to have 21 year old kids.
Kevin Gates
If you start early. How early they beautiful. One of them, he just, he's straight A student and my girl, she just, she amazing. And my two 13 year olds, there's a girl and a boy, both of them straight A students. And my son, he a 10 year old. My youngest, he 10 and he's all of my children just beautiful. They got beautiful personalities. I was blessed. I don't have no bad children or I don't have any disappointments.
Bobby
Do you feel like parents who have kids who are disappointments are going around doing interviews and saying they're disappointments? I feel like that would be crazy if you said they Were disappointments.
Kevin Gates
I don't know. I'm honest. So it's like.
Bobby
So if they were.
Kevin Gates
If I had somebody that I wasn't proud of around me, I'd be like. I probably wouldn't even mention them, to be honest with you.
Bobby
I wonder if there's any. There's none you didn't mention.
Kevin Gates
Nah, I only got five that I know about.
Bobby
My dad found out five years ago that he had a son he didn't know about.
Kevin Gates
Is he in his life now?
Bobby
Yeah, but for the first 40 years of his life, he wasn't. Cause he. He just knocked someone up 40 years ago and had no idea.
Kevin Gates
Well, it was meant to be, you know. It was a beautiful thing because it's like once he found out, he took responsibility. So I respect a man that do that. You can't fault me for what I didn't know.
Bobby
It's true.
Kevin Gates
Shout out to your daddy.
Bobby
Is that your coffee brand you're drinking?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
Is it cold?
Kevin Gates
I imagine it's room temperature now.
Bobby
Do you enjoy room temperature coffee?
Kevin Gates
Don't judge.
Bobby
I'm just wondering if you.
Kevin Gates
The only reason I say don't judge is because I had made a promise that I was gonna like start limiting my intake of coffee.
Bobby
How much coffee do you drink?
Kevin Gates
This is like in the middle.
Bobby
You've had how many cups today?
Kevin Gates
You want me to be honest?
Bobby
How many cups can you.
Kevin Gates
I don't know. Don't judge.
Bobby
Well, you said you want me to be honest.
Kevin Gates
I'm doing better.
Bobby
Be honest.
Kevin Gates
I don't know.
Bobby
Fuck. Guess.
Kevin Gates
Coffee spelled backwards. It's E. Fuck. And before I have my coffee, I don't give E fuck about anything. So this is. Forgive me, I'm so that sort. But I.
Bobby
How many cups of your cups?
Kevin Gates
I don't know.
Bobby
Let's. Let's start back from the beginning.
Kevin Gates
Less than 20.
Bobby
What's so good about it that you would want to have that many cups?
Kevin Gates
I just like the way it make me feel.
Bobby
What the is in your coffee?
Kevin Gates
I don't know. I just like.
Bobby
Coffee doesn't do anything but give me anxiety. I like it, but it gives me anxiety. It just. You. You like anxiety or you like yours doesn't?
Kevin Gates
I don't have anxiety because I breathe. When your body experience anxiety, then you in fight or flight, you're not breathing. So if you scared you and you hold your breath. That's from past traumatic experiences.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
That you horrible. You never and something might trigger it and you and stop breathing. So your body enters fight or flight and then you go and have anxiety. Me, I breathe and I feel good.
Bobby
Thank you for the demonstration.
Kevin Gates
I ain't scared of nothing.
Bobby
It's amazing. I would love to taste your coffee one day. Looks great.
Kevin Gates
This is not for the weak of heart.
Bobby
What. What do you. What is in that?
Kevin Gates
Just coffee and a little honey.
Bobby
Really?
Kevin Gates
And just black coffee with a little honey.
Bobby
And you don't add anything.
Kevin Gates
It's a little honey. I like the boxes that come, like organic honey. And I like a honey pack and all that. Because I know people that put honey packs in their coffee.
Bobby
I'm like, what, honey packs?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, it's a little pack of honey. But it just seemed inorganic to me. So I use organic honey.
Bobby
You make it yourself? It comes in the. A knot. Or you add the honey after I add the honey. Oh, I thought you figured out the way to.
Kevin Gates
I don't like processed sugar because it make me jittery.
Bobby
And maybe that's why I get processed sugar. Well, I add so much sugar to my coffee.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I don't. I like it. I like my coffee black with a little bit of honey.
Bobby
How long have you been a coffee maker?
Kevin Gates
My first cup of coffee. I think I was like in pre K or something. My grandfather had a cup and I was like, I want to try it.
Bobby
And my kids have tried it.
Kevin Gates
I've been hooked ever since.
Bobby
They're not hooked, though.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I'm hooked.
Bobby
Since you were 5?
Kevin Gates
Since I was a baby. Old enough to understand.
Bobby
That's amazing for you. Do you do a lot of little side quests like that?
Kevin Gates
If I'm passionate about it.
Bobby
Are you passionate about anything besides coffee and music?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Health and wellness. I like yoga.
Bobby
Oh, yeah. You said you were gonna go do yoga with your mom. Yeah, after dinner.
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
You're gonna go to dinner and then do yoga?
Kevin Gates
Well, they got the food at the house. Cause the restaurant gonna be closed by the time I get there. Cause we started so late.
Bobby
Do you have a private yoga studio or do you.
Kevin Gates
No, I got yoga mats. I'm gonna just do it at the house.
Bobby
You guys Just you and your mom?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
How old is your mom?
Kevin Gates
She's super young. She had me at 14. She look better than probably all the women that was in here today. Like she beautiful or my daddy beautiful too, though. But I'm beautiful, so it goes without saying, but my daddy and my mama are like beautiful. Like drop dead gorgeous.
Bobby
I want to see them.
Kevin Gates
Shit, everybody do.
Bobby
I'll just leave that to my imagination.
Kevin Gates
Then she beautiful though. Like gorgeous.
Bobby
Believe you. What's 14 plus 30. What'd you say you are?
Kevin Gates
I don't know. I never asked her her age. Cause I'd be like, how old are you? She was like, I'm immortal. Women aren't supposed to tell their age.
Bobby
Got it.
Kevin Gates
And then sometime I do the math, and I'd be like, but you just don't look like you this old.
Bobby
That can't be that old. You're 37. You said no.
Kevin Gates
On paper, I'm 39.
Bobby
Okay, 39 plus 14.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, that's on paper. But I'm ancient. I'm immortal.
Bobby
49 plus 4. Who did the math for me?
Kevin Gates
You doing the math?
Bobby
43. That's still young.
Kevin Gates
I don't know. I don't ask her. Cause she tell me the same thing. Cause I'd be like, how old are you? Women don't tell her age. Okay, cool. I won't bother.
Bobby
She's 53, but she feels 18.
Kevin Gates
I don't know. Because she gonna say some silly shit if I ask her. So I just stay up, you know, it's certain. Certain places I just stay away from.
Bobby
That's a good place to stay away. What other places do you stay away from?
Kevin Gates
Once I meet somebody, I formulate my assessment and I see how they are. And if my inner child can't come out around you, I don't fuck with you. Really. So if I'm around somebody and it's safe, it's a safe place. And my inner child could come around, come out, and I could. Cause I'm a goofy person. So I could be goofy and things of that nature, then that's cool. If not, I respect everybody's energetic boundaries. Because everybody isn't on the same level of the spectrum. And you don't know what frequency they operating out of. So I have to ask myself, am I bringing the best version of myself or am I bringing a representative? So I'm gonna be as vulnerable as possible, you know, in hopes that me being my authentic self can help somebody. Because being authentic, excuse me, operating out of authenticity, is the highest frequency. Because that's showing that you love yourself. That's the greatest act of self love. So that's the highest frequency you can operate out of. And that's just where I'm at with it right now.
Bobby
Do I bring out your inner child?
Kevin Gates
Well, we have to give it the best thing that you can give anything. Time.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
The best thing you can give any situation or anything in life is time.
Bobby
At the end of this interview.
Kevin Gates
Only time or two.
Bobby
See what you think.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Only time or two, that's a no.
Bobby
So I hope that as this progresses.
Kevin Gates
It'S not a no. It's just on the time of tell. Like, when people do things, a lot of times it's in furtherance of their agenda. And I understand that. I'm so serious. So when I meet people, I ask myself, is this in furtherance of your agenda? Because I don't want anything.
Bobby
Do you know that I said when I first started interviewing people that I wanted to interview you?
Kevin Gates
Hmm.
Bobby
When I first started interviewing people, I have a video online that says I wanted to interview you as a goal.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I mean, that's cool.
Bobby
No, it is cool. This is cool for me. This is like a big achievement for me. Thanks. Are we high fiving fucking right?
Kevin Gates
At least somebody. Y'all heard that? Okay. At least somebody fucking loves me.
Bobby
I love you. I think you're really a cool person.
Kevin Gates
I hate to say this. I hate to say what I'm about to say.
Bobby
Oh, don't say it's the truth. What is it? I'm scared. Is it about me? Is it me? Oh, God. Okay.
Kevin Gates
Nah, it's not that. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. So you should be afraid when I'm in the room. But anyway, I meant to say this. I'm the most. I hate to say what I'm about to say.
Bobby
Just say it.
Kevin Gates
I'm the most interesting person in the fucking universe.
Bobby
I.
Kevin Gates
Okay. I got it all. I'm good.
Bobby
Yeah, I can feel that already.
Kevin Gates
I hate to say that, though, but it's like I be around other people and I look what they do and they're like, boring. And it's like, nope, not with that. Like just now when I was at the airport with my son, we was waiting on our luggage and I jumped on the carousel and rode it all the way around because my inner child just happened to come out right then.
Bobby
You jumped on the carousel?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I rode it all the way around.
Bobby
Do you feel like you could have gotten in trouble?
Kevin Gates
It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Bobby
Yeah, but what about not asking to be on the doe fly list? Because I think that might happen.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, if that's what happens, then we gonna deal with it however it come. But God ain't put me here to be pussy.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
You know what I'm saying?
Bobby
I don't want you to be on the no fly list.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, if I am on a no fly list, I'm gonna be on the get on the bus list or get on the train list.
Bobby
Okay? That's a good.
Kevin Gates
Take the taxi in the Uber list. Okay. That's just what it's gonna be.
Bobby
I'm happy. Oh, that's. I'm happy. You can.
Kevin Gates
I know. I don't overthink it. I don't do that. I don't operate out of fear. I operate out of love. So I'm like, this is going to make somebody day when I do this.
Bobby
Did you?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. People loved it. They had so much anxiety from being on the plane. Plane crashes and it was. It made somebody. They're like, I just saw Kevin Gates on the carousel going around.
Bobby
Is there videos of this?
Kevin Gates
No, I just did it.
Bobby
No one took a video.
Kevin Gates
It's just spontaneous. It was.
Bobby
There's not.
Kevin Gates
Is in the moment. And that's what I do. And I guess. I guess I'm like this because when I'm authentic. A dude told me, he said, nobody could be you better than you. Don't stop posting on Instagram because you don't know how many people you helping. And I was like, I'm gonna start back. And I had made a vow, like, I'm never gonna give up on my people. Cause they never gave up on me.
Bobby
Amazing. Beautiful.
Kevin Gates
So a lot of people say, I'm a big kid. I'm more than a big kid. I'm the biggest kid ever. Like, one of my favorite movies is Little Rascals.
Bobby
That's a good movie. Did you have your kids watch that?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, that was my dream. I wanted a go kart. That's crazy. I'm saying this to you. I never said this in the interview. I wanted a go kart in a treehouse after I seen Little Rascals.
Bobby
Did you ever have that happen?
Kevin Gates
No, not yet. I got a tree.
Bobby
You need to make a house.
Kevin Gates
You still got a tree house.
Bobby
No, you need not just a tree house. You need to make a whole little. Little clubhouse.
Kevin Gates
He's making me laugh.
Bobby
Is. He is.
Kevin Gates
With his facial expressions.
Bobby
Is that when he's.
Kevin Gates
Forgive me.
Bobby
That's happening.
Kevin Gates
Forgive me. Forgive me.
Bobby
I'm happy. I think.
Kevin Gates
No. Forgive me.
Bobby
He's bringing out your.
Kevin Gates
I'm so not sorry. Forgive me. Get him out of here.
Bobby
Oh, no. He can't go. He'll have no camera anymore. Couple suck. You. You okay?
Kevin Gates
I'm good. I love to laugh. I'm goofy, though, but, you know. Kevin, get focused. Sir, yes, sir. Okay, I'm back. Focused. Oh, my bad. I forgot to tell you. I do talk to myself.
Bobby
I. It's. You don't have to tell me.
Kevin Gates
All Geniuses talk to themselves. It's kind of evident.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
What other geniuses do that?
Kevin Gates
I be so concerned with myself, I don't even care. It's not even relevant to me once I read it. That justified me talking to myself because I used to be ashamed of doing it.
Bobby
I talk to myself sometimes.
Kevin Gates
You should.
Bobby
Here and there. Not. Not too much.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, that helps you develop an understanding you have under, over and inner.
Bobby
Oh, I've never. Never heard that one before.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I have an understanding with myself. I understand.
Bobby
You understand yourself.
Kevin Gates
Yes, Lord.
Bobby
And your inner child.
Kevin Gates
Mm. Yes, Lord.
Bobby
Thank you so much. Is this. Is it the Kevin Gates special?
Kevin Gates
Right. If you. Not.
Bobby
Not. What?
Kevin Gates
If you're not like John Wayne, rough and tough and don't take no shit off nobody. I don't think that black coffee is the coffee for you.
Bobby
I like black coffee.
Kevin Gates
Oh, say no more.
Bobby
Cheers to your little sip that's left. That's pretty good. You have.
Kevin Gates
Oh, is that what happens when you.
Bobby
When you drink the coffee?
Kevin Gates
It's over with now?
Bobby
It's over with?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, it's over with. I think I'm good for the day. I might be.
Bobby
I don't think you are.
Kevin Gates
I'm not. Rehabs for quitters.
Bobby
That's. That's is also. Yeah, rehab is for critters.
Kevin Gates
For quitters. I'm not trying to quit.
Bobby
Yeah, you shouldn't try. How successful is your coffee business?
Kevin Gates
I went to AA one time. They said coffee's not a drug. I used to. I was like, damn.
Bobby
You went to AA for coffee? Yeah. Why did you do that?
Kevin Gates
Because I let people tell me that it was a problem, but it really was what made me me.
Bobby
Oh, you actually have.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. I let people tell me you drink too much coffee.
Bobby
I didn't realize you actually.
Kevin Gates
I left the first. Yeah, I left the first day.
Bobby
And you.
Kevin Gates
I say, this is not for me. I'm doing this to be appeasing to someone else.
Bobby
You drank a lot of it and then just. You had to go to AA because of it.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I let somebody tell me you drink too much coffee. No, I don't drink enough. Is that so Rehabs for quitters.
Bobby
It's just in your veins at this point?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, it's in me. Not on me.
Bobby
I love coffee. You. Oh, it's interesting. I've never met anyone who loves coffee more than. Than you.
Kevin Gates
You ain't never met me.
Bobby
Why don't you start a coffee shop, man? That would be cute. You should do that.
Kevin Gates
It's crazy. I would like to have A coffee shop called the coffee shop. But at the same time, I'm not going to never just be in the coffee shop.
Bobby
You don't have to be there all the time.
Kevin Gates
Anything that I fuck with is gonna be my baby and I'm gonna put my all into it.
Bobby
Yeah, you can still put your all into it and not go there every day.
Kevin Gates
Now I'm had to go there every day.
Bobby
Then don't start a coffee shop. I'm just giving you a great idea that you're just. I think that would be so successful.
Kevin Gates
If it's in the cause for me. Like I said, I'm on my journey, so I don't manifest. I. I'm. Excuse me. I don't chase anything. I attract anything. I want to come to me.
Bobby
That's not happen to me.
Kevin Gates
It could.
Bobby
It doesn't. If I. If I just let things come to me.
Kevin Gates
No negative selft talk.
Bobby
Okay? Yeah, I'm full of love.
Kevin Gates
I'm attracting beautiful things to my life right now. No negative self talk.
Bobby
That's not manifesting.
Kevin Gates
Yes, it is.
Bobby
You just said you don't.
Kevin Gates
I mean I had said the wrong word. I said I don't manifest, but I said no, I don't chase. So I corrected myself.
Bobby
So you do manifest.
Kevin Gates
Players fuck up too. And mistakes make us great. So I love making mistakes. So I said yeah. Then I went back and corrected myself.
Bobby
Okay, got it. So you do manifest.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. One thing about me, you're gonna watch me make mistakes. You're gonna watch me have imperfect. My perfect imperfections. See, I just made another mistake. Yeah, but it made me so beautiful.
Bobby
It did.
Kevin Gates
I love that. For me, I love Kevin. He's amazing. Forgive me. So my.

Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
What's the next question?
Bobby
The next question? I don't know. I'm kind of just letting you take the lead right now.
Kevin Gates
You don't want me to leave because we gonna end up on an adventure.
Bobby
Let's go on an adventure.
Kevin Gates
I go on adventures. Every day is an adventure. And then I just pride myself on being a minimalist. Everywhere I go, I pack me a suit, I pack some workout clothes.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
And I pack maybe a nice pair of jeans. And I gotta have some nice socks and some bands, a doll.
Bobby
You don't put anything else in your suitcase.
Kevin Gates
Oh, shit. Yeah. Where do you travel for hygiene? Yeah, I love taking road trips. Ain't no telling where I'm end up.
Bobby
Road trips?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
What type of car are you talking? Like a road. Like you get a big van or just a regular car?
Kevin Gates
I'm so fly, I might go. I like GTs, like grand tours, because that's what they. A GT, a grand tour would be considered like a luxury coupe. Like a Bentley.
Bobby
Got it. Got it.
Kevin Gates
Mercedes. It's a two door, but it's big, it's spacious. Yeah.
Bobby
Most of the time on a road trip.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. I'm a minimalist. Ain't nobody with me. With me.
Bobby
How far do you go?
Kevin Gates
Wherever the journey take me.
Bobby
I can't imagine just driving in Oklahoma and seeing Kevin Gates in a Lamborghini.
Kevin Gates
No, I'm not gonna be in a Lamborghini. That's a. That's more like. That's a roadster. That's not for road trips.
Bobby
I don't know the difference.
Kevin Gates
Like a bent. Okay, that's a sports car.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
And a sports car. You can't recline a backseat. I mean, you can't recline.
Bobby
I thought you were driving the car.
Kevin Gates
Excuse me. Most sports cars don't have a back seat.
Bobby
Okay. Are you driving the car?
Kevin Gates
I'm driving.
Bobby
But you sleep in the car, so you need to recline.
Kevin Gates
No, I'm gonna stop.
Bobby
Why do you need to recline?
Kevin Gates
Cause, you know, you gotta be comfortable.
Bobby
I don't recline when I drive.
Kevin Gates
No, when I say recline, I'll give you an example. Like if you're in a sports car, it's designed to keep you up, upright. Cause it's so dangerous. If you're in a luxury coupe, it's gonna be more comfortability.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
So that's what.
Bobby
How far do you. How do you. How far do you make it on your road trips?
Kevin Gates
I done drove. I done drove from Mississippi to Washington, D.C. one time on the east coast, on the West Coast, I done drove. I really went in a big circle because I went to Vegas, then I went to Arizona, then I went to San Francisco, Then I ended up saying, you know what? I'mma go back to Arizona. And then for some reason, I got the bright idea to go stop in Palm Springs. I was like, I never been in Palm Springs. But Rachel, they got this girl named Rachelle Mead, or Rachel Mead. She wrote a book about the Vampire Diaries. And they was in Palm Springs in the book. So I saw the sign that said Palm Springs, and I was like, I'm going to go there. And I went to Palm Springs. I don't know why I'm like this, but I'm just like this. Like I'm different.
Bobby
Did you have fun in Palm Springs?
Kevin Gates
It was cool. It was an experience.
Bobby
Can I join you on your next road trip?
Kevin Gates
Man, you so not serious. You just saying that for the camera.
Bobby
No, let's go.
Kevin Gates
You not serious.
Bobby
I'm so serious.
Kevin Gates
You're so saying that for the camera.
Bobby
I'm not saying that for the camera.
Kevin Gates
Yes, you are.
Bobby
You're. I want to go on. On The.
Kevin Gates
Authenticity is the highest frequency. I need to start feeling. I mean, that I meet some of. I know. I meet some of the most incredible people.
Bobby
Go in your car and you're going to be like, oh, damn. You were serious.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. You ain't got to get no clothes or nothing. We'll shop when we get there.
Bobby
I want to go.
Kevin Gates
I wear Lululemon.
Bobby
Fun.
Kevin Gates
I wear Lululemon. And Alo. They have something for everybody. Not everybody, but.
Bobby
They don't have suits.
Kevin Gates
You know something?
Bobby
They do.
Kevin Gates
If you look at my old interviews, those white button downs that I wear, they're made by Lululemon.
Bobby
Do they pay you?
Kevin Gates
They need to.
Bobby
They should.
Kevin Gates
Now that I talk to you, it might happen.
Bobby
Let's hope so. They should pay you to wear them.
Kevin Gates
I'm the Lululemon don. I'm fresh in Louis Vuitton. Excuse me? I said that in a song one time.
Bobby
Did you? What song?
Kevin Gates
I forgot. I make so many.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
It's like therapy.
Bobby
Do you know that you did a song with someone who I remember seeing for the first time when I was in Ireland. Dermont Kennedy.
Kevin Gates
Ireland?
Bobby
Yeah. Dramont Kennedy. You did a song with him and I was in Ireland and I saw him when he was just.
Kevin Gates
I love that guy.
Bobby
Have never met him or anything, but I loved him when I saw him on a little TV in Ireland.
Kevin Gates
I Love that guy. He's a great guy. We made history. We made history.
Bobby
Yep.
Kevin Gates
God, I had a thought. I was remembering. I just remember I was. I had a thought of me making the song. You made me go back and I just was like. Cause I don't really take pictures. I don't take pictures and videos. And what happens is sometimes when you take pictures and videos, you lose the experience in your brain. So you don't. You don't have that recall. You weaken the muscle.
Bobby
Is that what happened?
Kevin Gates
That's why once you said it, I was able to go.
Bobby
You just remembered you and Dermot sitting somewhere?
Kevin Gates
No, I remember.
Bobby
Oh, what did you remember?
Kevin Gates
I remember after I made the song and when I played it for somebody and they really appreciated the song, it was a beautiful experience.
Bobby
Do you want to elaborate?
Kevin Gates
No.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Support me.
Bobby
No, I just. I'm curious.
Kevin Gates
You supposed to be. I'm a great mystery. I'm a great mystery. That's what made the universe so beautiful. Cause it's like I see the stars, but I kind of wonder, like, you gotta have a wonder about it. That's what make me so beautiful. I'm a great mystery.
Bobby
You wonder.
Kevin Gates
Some things I like to enjoy to myself. So the general public that look at me, they be like, I love him, but I just. He's still a mystery.
Bobby
Mm.
Kevin Gates
Cause some stuff just for you. Like, some of the things you experience, like, can I have this moment and this memory for me? I love this for me. Love that for me.
Bobby
I like the voice you switch into sometimes.
Kevin Gates
Nah, that's. Somebody was doing that around me. This little white chick.
Bobby
Oh, okay.
Kevin Gates
And she used to always say, I love that for you. And she used to roll her eyes every time she said. So I told her I was like, you the most nonchalant person I ever met in my life. I ain't gonna say her name. So she was like, when somebody tell us something bad, she be like, I hate that for you. When she was on the phone, she was like, I hate that for you. And I thought it was the funniest shit in the world. Cause she's so nonchalant. So I fall out laughing. And she be like, you are funny. I am screaming. And I just be like, what the fuck? So then I just said, you know what? I'mma keep your spirit alive, no matter what the world gonna know. And every time I get.
Bobby
White girl accent.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, that's my dog. I ain't gonna say no names, though. I don't want to put her out there. Cause she really super Nonchalant. And when somebody say, like, people be asking me why I do that on the Internet, I'd be like, duh the fuck. And she really be like, she nonchalant. So it was like. So I just took it and I said, I'm gonna start and set it saying, I love that for you. I hate that for you. I'm saying, I love that for me.
Bobby
It's like, has anybody else started doing that?
Kevin Gates
If you look at the Internet, people do everything I do. Anything I do, they see it and they emulate it. But that's beautiful because I'm something to emulate. I am not upset.
Bobby
Do you want to go to the mountain?
Kevin Gates
I'm already on the move. I'm me.
Bobby
Do you want to go to the literal moon?
Kevin Gates
I'm already on the moon. What about me? I don't need to go.
Bobby
So you don't want to go?
Kevin Gates
I don't need to go.
Bobby
Elon Musk calls you up tomorrow and he says, hey, you can go to the moon.
Kevin Gates
Let's go.
Bobby
Okay, so you do want to go to the moon. Falls quick, I want to go to the moon. I'll go with you.
Kevin Gates
I done went skydiving before.
Bobby
That's a little. I don't know if I would go to the moon. Skydiving is also dangerous.
Kevin Gates
I jumped out the plane. I did five back flips. It's on YouTube. It's documented.
Bobby
Did you by yourself or with an instructor?
Kevin Gates
Nah.
Bobby
How'd you get him to do that?
Kevin Gates
I had to have a buddy. I had to have a buddy pass. They surprised me.
Bobby
How did you get him to do five back flips, too?
Kevin Gates
I just jumped out backwards, and he had to go with the flow. When I jumped out backwards, I was like, I'm gonna flip.
Bobby
And he just had to.
Kevin Gates
He had to go with the flow.
Bobby
Did he hate you after?
Kevin Gates
Nah, he fucked with me. He said, you was not scared at all. I said, well, I was scared, but I faced my fear with bravery. I said, because there's always things that's going to make us afraid, but we face our fear with bravery. And I'm like an adrenaline junkie, so. Yep.
Bobby
Would you go, what are those things? The shark cages. You're an adrenaline junkie.
Kevin Gates
What?
Bobby
That is where you go in the ocean in a cage and let sharks surround you.
Kevin Gates
That ain't shit. I done swarm with sharks like this. Oh, they go off energy. Sharks love me, animals love me.
Bobby
Sharks.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. It's about energy. When you give off fear. Fear is a very strong energy. And when you Give off fear. It makes those animals be in fear and their fear makes them attack. That's why most people that get attacked by animals, they gave off fear.
Bobby
Wild animals, too.
Kevin Gates
Well, a beautiful thing about nature is it's more civilized than human beings. Because human beings are parasitic in nature. They take and take from Mother Earth and they never give back. Yeah, like when you go, I'm not. I'm not a tree hugger, but I hug trees. Like, I love being in nature.
Bobby
Do you. You camp and stuff, all of that you do?
Kevin Gates
I hunt, fish. Camp.
Bobby
You hunt? Where?
Kevin Gates
On my reservation in Mississippi.
Bobby
You have a reservation in Mississippi?
Kevin Gates
Yes. Lord.
Bobby
That's cool. What do you hunt?
Kevin Gates
Deer.
Bobby
Do you eat them?
Kevin Gates
Yep.
Bobby
Both good?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. My favorite is the tenderloin and the back strap. Have you ever had a filet and it's cut? Yeah. Okay. Well, that's the tenderloin.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
It's like, long, but they cut it down like, not.
Bobby
I haven't had a deer, though. I've only had a.
Kevin Gates
It's the best you're going to ever have.
Bobby
Really?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
That's pretty cool. But do you do it all yourself?
Kevin Gates
Field dressing? When you feel dressing, you just take out the organs. That's gonna contaminate the meat. Long story short. Then when you get it back to camp, you can clean it. But I cry every time I do it.
Bobby
You do?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, because the animal sacrifice itself so that our family, our tribe, could have sustenance.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
It's spiritual when you do it the way we do it. We not sitting up and we not throwing corn on the ground, eating Oreo cookies, shooting Bambi.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
We don't do it like that. It's a sacred way that we do it.
Bobby
I wish everyone would kill animal.
Kevin Gates
We only take what we need from the land.
Bobby
That's good, I think.
Kevin Gates
Enjoy yourself. No, I think it's only what you need from me.
Bobby
I think you're breaking out into songs.
Kevin Gates
The family trees. Excuse me.
Bobby
No, I was just. I thought we were talking.
Kevin Gates
Forgive me.
Bobby
No, it's okay.
Kevin Gates
I'm sorry.
Bobby
I didn't. Thank you.
Kevin Gates
My teachers hate me, but they love me.
Bobby
Your teachers?
Kevin Gates
Every teacher I ever had, they say, kevin, I just love you. I say, yeah, I'm a likable asshole.
Bobby
It's a good way to describe oneself.
Kevin Gates
Brutally honest.
Bobby
Are you vegan when you. Or do you only eat the.
Kevin Gates
I'm vegan when I'm on tour because it's easier on my digestive system. But if I'm not on tour, then I eat meat, but only Meat.
Bobby
Steak only meat. You kill or.
Kevin Gates
No, I like steak.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
I like steaks. I like duck.
Bobby
Duck.
Kevin Gates
I like steak.
Bobby
Duck.
Kevin Gates
I'm a steak guy. I like a medium. I like it prepared. Medium.
Bobby
Medium. What?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, and I like it boned in. Bone in. So if I do like a.
Bobby
On a steak.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I do like a 12 ounce filet with the bone in.
Bobby
They give that option. I've never had them say bone in or.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, you ain't never been with me.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
But you know, when they leave the bone in, it is. Captures the flavor. The meat just captures the flavor. Succulent to the taste. You know, I should be able to cut it with a butter knife.
Bobby
Wow.
Kevin Gates
If I can't cut it with a butter knife, then it wasn't, it wasn't prepared properly.
Bobby
I've never had such a. Such a steak before.
Kevin Gates
If you serious about the road trip, I thank you for the best.
Bobby
I'm so serious.
Kevin Gates
The best steak you ever had in your life. But you're so not serious in the room.
Bobby
I'm so serious. But I swear on. I love that everyone's lives in this room. I love that my sister's in this room. And I swore on her life too.
Kevin Gates
Y'all look just alike. I knew that was your sister. I say, look at her. I say, look at her over there looking like little Bobby.
Bobby
Yeah, she's my little twin.
Kevin Gates
I say look at her looking like. I say, look at her looking like little Bobby over there.
Bobby
Yeah, so it's like me without lip filler.
Kevin Gates
I was here. That was my first thought when I walked through the. I say she. I say, they must be related.
Bobby
Look up who's older because she gets. Who's older?
Kevin Gates
You.
Bobby
She gets offended when people say who's older? Because she thinks it's so obviously.
Kevin Gates
Probably because of the maturity that she exhibit. People will think that she older, but it's really not.
Bobby
Are you calling me immature?
Kevin Gates
No, it's just you a public figure.
Bobby
So I look younger or just act younger.
Kevin Gates
I'm not saying that, but it's the maturity that she exhibit. A person would think that she older, but I could look at her clearly and tell she younger.
Bobby
Yeah, she's a baby, but I just swore in her life that I would go on a road trip.
Kevin Gates
You might not like your full brown. They got people that don't like their family members.
Bobby
I wouldn't bring her everywhere if I don't.
Kevin Gates
I don't know that though. I don't know that you might have felt obligated. Like she's my sister. She had a tag along.
Bobby
She's my. No, she doesn't have to. She takes care of my children. I would never swear on my.
Kevin Gates
No, but I'm just saying, though, I know people that don't like.
Bobby
Let's go on a road trip, man.
Kevin Gates
You not serious.
Bobby
Stop saying that.
Kevin Gates
Prove it.
Bobby
Let's fucking go right now. Let's go right now in your suit. Your mom is going to be very sad that you missed dinner. Let's go. Since you want to prove it right.
Kevin Gates
Now so bad you ain't got no workout clothes.
Bobby
You just said I don't have to bring anything. So we're stopping at Lululemon.
Kevin Gates
We gotta wait till Lululemon open at.
Bobby
What, 10am we'll start driving right now. We'll get to Lululemon by 10am Vegas.
Kevin Gates
Four hours from here. Then we had to go to Sedona. I never been to the Grand Canyon.
Bobby
I've been when I was really young. I would love to go back.
Kevin Gates
I want to go to the Grand Canyon.
Bobby
Let's go. We're going.
Kevin Gates
We're so not serious. Oh, my God.
Bobby
You know what's going to be funny is when the next the part two of this is us on a road trip.
Kevin Gates
Get the camera to get up to the car.
Bobby
It will be what is. You know when you watch those shows where they have the camera on the, like, dashboard.
Kevin Gates
Oh, you gonna hate because sometimes I play the same song over and over for like 30 minutes.
Bobby
How many. How many times is that?
Kevin Gates
I don't know. I put it on repeat.
Bobby
What songs do you do that to? Like your own music.
Kevin Gates
Jesse is a friend, and he's always been a good friend of mine. But lately something's changed. It ain't hard to define. Jesse's got himself a girl. I don't want to make a. Mm. Oh, look at all that Javity shit. She making me do this, bro. I don't even let people know how. Cause you know them private moments for me when I'm in the car. But she asking me all these questions and shit.
Bobby
That's my job.
Kevin Gates
I know, I know.
Bobby
Yeah, yeah. Gotta ask the question. I also need to know what our.
Kevin Gates
But yeah, like, so my fear is like, my only fear sometime when people get in the car with me is my selection of music. Cause I'm super eclectic now. We done went from that to some Jamaican music to some reggae shit to reggaeton, to some Spanish. I'm just. I'm all over the place with music that's fun, but it's Something about that.
Bobby
As long as I can tell you.
Kevin Gates
She is a friend. It sounds like something that you just get on the road to. That's how I start my trip.
Bobby
How many road trips have you been on?
Kevin Gates
Millions.
Bobby
Can I drive?
Kevin Gates
Can you drive?
Bobby
I know I'm capable. I'm asking if I can drive your car on a road trip.
Kevin Gates
I got it, buddy. I'll take it. I got it. From here.
Bobby
You get music and you get to drive.
Kevin Gates
Yes, Lord. I guess that wouldn't have I. I'll see what's on your playlist. You could tell a lot about a person by their playlist.
Bobby
I don't think that.
Kevin Gates
Oh, my God.
Bobby
A lot of thoughts if you listen to mine.
Kevin Gates
You play what?
Bobby
I don't know what I play. A little bit of everything.
Kevin Gates
I'm like that. I like songs.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Like Panic at the Disco.
Bobby
This is gonna be a great.
Kevin Gates
And then. And then I like. I've been listening at that Top Prospect. I've been listening to that lately. Take that issue Pussy. You can't duck no fully, you know. I gotta hear somebody to get they top popped too.
Bobby
Yeah, no, I'm okay. I'm okay not to listen.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I like gangster shit. So I listen at that.
Bobby
I'll put headphones in when you listen to Sir.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I gotta listen to that. Cause it had me just charged. Then I might listen to something soothing. Some Avril Lavigne, you know what I'm saying? Some do a lip. Yeah. You know, I'm on all that type of shit, you know. What's my little redhead kid? My favorite.
Bobby
Oh, is that Chapel? No, no, she's redhead.
Kevin Gates
What's my little redhead partner name?
Bobby
I don't know anybody else.
Kevin Gates
The one who was talking about smoking cray.
Bobby
Oh, I don't know anybody who did that.
Kevin Gates
Breathing in the snowflakes.
Bobby
Nope.
Kevin Gates
Just. Man, we all under the upper hand, man. What's his name? Sheeran. Ed Sheeran.
Bobby
That's not what I was expecting you to hear. He was talking about a woman smoking cracking crack.
Kevin Gates
No, she was smoking crack. She was breathing in the snowflakes.
Bobby
That's what that means. Yeah, right. Really? It's not actual snowflakes. That's not what it means. That's not what he's talking about. How do you know that? That's crazy.
Kevin Gates
I'm in the streets.
Bobby
Do you think he knows that? He does. He is I in the streets? What streets? Is dad sharing in the white people?
Kevin Gates
We in these white people.
Bobby
Street breeding in the snowflakes. What does that mean?
Kevin Gates
Well, Sometime. Sometime cocaine is like, referred to as like snow and snowflakes and white girl.
Bobby
What does he say happens to her in the song?
Kevin Gates
I don't know. She was breathing in the snowflakes and then what?
Bobby
How does finish. I know you know the rest of the song. Yeah.
Kevin Gates
She was breathing in the snowflakes and then. Yeah. Looking for a little piece of love? You heard me.
Bobby
Is that what happens when you do coke? You look for love?
Kevin Gates
I don't know. I ain't ever did coke. I done smoked a lot of weed, though. I done smoke more than a chimney. I want to get back to where I can smoke, but I'm just too focused right now.
Bobby
You don't smoke ever?
Kevin Gates
I don't even drink.
Bobby
Really. That's.
Kevin Gates
I'm boring.
Bobby
I feel like you're anything but boring.
Kevin Gates
To be honest, to a person that needs vices, yeah, I would be boring.
Bobby
You don't consider.
Kevin Gates
You don't drink. Like, I hear that all the time.
Bobby
You don't consider coffee advice?
Kevin Gates
It's a stimulant.
Bobby
Okay, but you don't.
Kevin Gates
It's very stimulating.
Bobby
Is it?
Kevin Gates
Yes.
Bobby
Lord, how you. Are you close with all your kids or daddy's girls?
Kevin Gates
Well, I'm their dad.
Bobby
You're not. Okay, well, I did not mean it.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I'm their father or their dad.
Bobby
But like, if my kids call their dad Dottie. But it's not. It's not weird.
Kevin Gates
That's disrespectful.
Bobby
That's not. It's not their 2 and 4.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, but like my son, I like. I promote maturity, not adolescence.
Bobby
So I feel like they're two and four. They can't be mature.
Kevin Gates
Well, when I was two and four, God damn it, I had four full time jobs. But now I promote. My grandfather was like that, either you learn fast or you die young. So I promote maturity. And then, like, it's just. No, you not about to grow up calling me daddy. That's disrespectful.
Bobby
You don't have to grow up saying that.
Kevin Gates
But before I got a woman in my life, you know, I'm Daddy, if.
Bobby
She, you know, you like her to call you. I've never in my life called you.
Kevin Gates
I don't.
Bobby
You are okay with that? I've never.
Kevin Gates
In certain, in certain, in certain senses. Because when I started teaching her things about life and how beautiful life is, and I start giving her good wisdom, is she up under my tutelage? I'm gonna become her daddy. My tutelage.
Bobby
I'm teaching her maybe define that. Word for me?
Kevin Gates
Tutelage.
Bobby
Never heard that.
Kevin Gates
Like a tutor.
Bobby
Oh, okay.
Kevin Gates
Who aids and assists. You.
Bobby
Got it. Learning so much.
Kevin Gates
Your learning curve or.
Bobby
Oh, yes. Is that what you mean?
Kevin Gates
Not saying you have a learning curve. A tutor. Tutelage.
Bobby
Okay. Then you say you must.
Kevin Gates
All right.
Bobby
So if you're comfortable, I become her dad. Never in my life called a guy bot.
Kevin Gates
And you ain't met the right guy.
Bobby
No, I don't. I don't think I could meet anyone.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, you ain't met the right person yet, but it's some. It's no, like, I never say never because I never thought I would eat caviar, and I love caviar. Do you love it?
Bobby
Love it.
Kevin Gates
I never thought I would eat raw oysters, but I love raw oysters. I never say never. I never eat that, and then I end up loving it.
Bobby
What are things right now that you would never do?
Kevin Gates
I never thought I would do yoga. Now I'm addicted to it.
Bobby
No, right now, what are things you'll never do? I want to see the things you're gonna learn to love.
Kevin Gates
I don't know. I'ma never eat pork.
Bobby
Tomorrow. Bacon.
Kevin Gates
Never, never, never.
Bobby
What else?
Kevin Gates
I don't know. It's just certain things I'm gonna never do.
Bobby
Until you change your mind?
Kevin Gates
Well, no, it's against my code of conduct. Certain things gonna be against my code of condom.
Bobby
You just. You just said I will never say never. Because.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I never say never. Unless it's. Unless it's.
Bobby
Unless it's. Never.
Kevin Gates
Unless it's. Unless it's prohibited. Like, unless it's against my code of conduct. And there's. Certain. That's just against my code of conduct.
Bobby
Pork?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I don't eat no pork.
Bobby
Gross. Wait. Bacon turkey. Bacon turkey.
Kevin Gates
Bacon. Bacon turkey. That's what my children say. Dad, can we have bacon turkey? I got you.
Bobby
You make it yourself?
Kevin Gates
I'm a chef. World class.
Bobby
What else do you make for them?
Kevin Gates
They like steak. Oh, they like sancocho.
Bobby
What's that?
Kevin Gates
Sancocho. That's like a. It's like a soup.
Bobby
Never heard of that.
Kevin Gates
And it's made with, like, chicken. It's made with, like, potatoes. It's made with zucchini, cilantro. It's made with yellow squash, butternut squash. Sometime I use Japanese yams. That's the purple potatoes.
Bobby
Do you do your own grocery shopping?
Kevin Gates
Yep.
Bobby
You go.
Kevin Gates
I love grocery shopping. Love that for me.
Bobby
Where do you go shopping?
Kevin Gates
If I tell you, everybody go be over there.
Bobby
I don't think so.
Kevin Gates
I swear to God, they gonna be there.
Bobby
Tell me.
Kevin Gates
I go to, like, organic, like, food markets. I'm not gonna say the name. Everyone sometimes. I've been to Erewhon before.
Bobby
What's so secretive about that?
Kevin Gates
I'm exotic.
Bobby
I like to shop there sometimes with Erewhin. Yeah, I had a smoothie there for a month.
Kevin Gates
I love that for you. Oh, my God.
Bobby
Do you? I love that. I feel like I should mock that voice, but I feel like that voice is already mocking me, so I love that place.
Kevin Gates
I swear to God I do. From the herb, from the herbal aisle to the.
Bobby
You just go there.
Kevin Gates
Meat section. Like where they got some poultry and all. Yeah, I'm him.
Bobby
You just go in there with a shopping cart.
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
I don't picture famous people doing regular things.
Kevin Gates
I don't feel famous.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Like, I just feel like me.
Bobby
You are.
Kevin Gates
And it's a beautiful thing in a.
Bobby
Sense, because people don't recognize you when you're pushing a cart.
Kevin Gates
They do. They do. But it's an energetic boundary. Like, the world know what's up with me. So it's beautiful. Cause it's like you get to see me do regular shit. That's my favorite thing to say. Like, people be like, what up, gays? What you doing? Ain't nothing. Regular shit. I do regular shit. Like, shop it arrow on sometimes when I can. I go to farmers markets too.
Bobby
You do? You just.
Kevin Gates
I can't believe that dude told me. I did not expect to see you here. I say it'll be. I can show you on my phone. I got a membership to every gym.
Bobby
Every gym?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. I like to change the energy up and just go to different gyms.
Bobby
Like. Like what gyms?
Kevin Gates
All around the city.
Bobby
In la? Are you in la?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. I'm based too. I'm based too.
Bobby
And you go to every gym?
Kevin Gates
Every. Hold on. You think I'm bullshit? Don't say them out loud. Don't say them out loud.
Bobby
I'm not gonna air you out.
Kevin Gates
Please don't.
Bobby
But you just said every, so I feel like that's actually quite.
Kevin Gates
I'm not bullshitting. I don't have any social media apps on this phone.
Bobby
You don't? Oh. Cause you have two phones.
Kevin Gates
Well, really, if you listen to the song, there's one for the plug, there's one for the low, there's one for the bitch, there's one for the dough. And I think I need two more. So that's really six phones.
Bobby
Do you have that money?
Kevin Gates
I got six cell phones. I'm Trying to call me, dawg.
Bobby
Do you have that money? I saw you have two phones today.
Kevin Gates
No, you did.
Bobby
You said. Can you get me the pink phone that.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You saw two today. You did. You did.
Bobby
Thank you.
Kevin Gates
You Did I fuck with you? You observant.
Bobby
Yeah, I watched it.
Kevin Gates
Oh, my God. Kevin, watch out for that tree. All right.
Bobby
On our road trip, I'll help you. Watch out for trees.
Kevin Gates
See, if you were serious.
Bobby
I'm so serious. Don't say that ever again. Okay, so you have. So you don't have two phones. You have six phones.
Kevin Gates
Unfortunately. Yeah, I got six phones.
Bobby
Well, how does one manage six phones? So that's your gym membership slash mom phone.
Kevin Gates
Now, this is my family line. This is my most important phone. So this is the one I keep with me all the time. And then I got other phones for other businesses. I know if this ring is going to be for coffee. I know if this ring is going to be for my construction company. I know if this one.
Bobby
Construction company? Yeah, I don't know that.
Kevin Gates
Breadwinner Construction.
Bobby
Do you want to explain what that is?
Kevin Gates
A construction company?
Bobby
Yeah. What yours is construction. You build houses in la?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I built. Well, not here, but down south.
Bobby
You have employees?
Kevin Gates
I'm like Bob the Builder.
Bobby
Well, you're not. They are. Right. No, you. You're out there.
Kevin Gates
Know how I got into construction?
Bobby
No.
Kevin Gates
I started off building scaffolds like those. The scaffolds are the things on the outside of the house with the rails.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
And they put the wood where we used to have fun building the scaffolds like.
Bobby
So now you.
Kevin Gates
And then I started out, then I was a painter. I got to be the cut man. That's when. Cause my hand was steady enough to. If you look at the crown molding, the person. That's crazy. I never talked about this in an interview, but if you look at the person that. See, those corners are fucked up. Whoever did that, that's not a good cut man that did that.
Bobby
Those are awful.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. I would be the great cut man that would make that line straight.
Bobby
My dog is a.
Kevin Gates
So I got a different. I got a different type of love for, like, people that's in the construction and cabinet makers and people that make things with their hand.
Bobby
My dad built the house I grew up in.
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
By himself. Over, like, five years.
Kevin Gates
That's a great man.
Bobby
It is falling apart now, but it was great.
Kevin Gates
It's the love that went into it.
Bobby
There's so much love. It's not going to last.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, it's the love that went into. So when you. You make something especially for your children to live in, you doing it out.
Bobby
Of love, well, it's not going to exist for his kids anymore because it's falling apart.
Kevin Gates
But I can refurbish it.
Bobby
The goal in life.
Kevin Gates
Put more love into it.
Bobby
Yep.
Kevin Gates
Put a little love in.
Bobby
Do you break out into song a lot?
Kevin Gates
Yep.
Bobby
I've only. Only four times so far.
Kevin Gates
I do it all the time. I be walking. I just do it. I don't know why.
Bobby
How many tattoos do you have?
Kevin Gates
I'm covered from my ankle to my neck.
Bobby
You are?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Only thing I don't have, with all due respect, are my glutes. And I'm just saying that. Cause you white, but my ass ain't tattooed.
Bobby
Okay. Thank you. I did third. You what? You're gonna do that?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
Why?
Kevin Gates
I'm gonna get tiger stripes on one side and get fucking jaguar, like, on the other side. But it's gonna be beautiful because it's gonna be like my. I already designed it in my brain.
Bobby
Have you helped? Have you talked to a tattoo artist?
Kevin Gates
My showman. That's the only person that tattooed me. One person.
Bobby
Does he put you to sleep for it?
Kevin Gates
No, you're just.
Bobby
He's. You're gonna be awake, and he's just.
Kevin Gates
I have a breathing technique that I do. I put myself into a meditative trance.
Bobby
You meditate all the time.
Kevin Gates
And once I put myself into a meditative trance, I don't even feel a needle. My other tattoo artist is like. That's like my brother. It's like a relationship. I don't just go around and get tattoos from people. Like, I gotta know you and trust you and love you to. Because your energy gotta be right. Because the energy that you got in your body, you putting that into my body? You using a needle on me? So it's a transfer of energy. So I gotta make sure that it's like the right person energetically.
Bobby
I've gone to really questionable places to get tattoos.
Kevin Gates
Not me. Maybe that if I walk in the room and it don't feel right, I'm leaving. I walked in the room without saying anything. I don't owe you an explanation. If my energy isn't right, I'm gone. Bye.
Bobby
The tattoo on my back, I hated it when he wrote it. And I was like, I don't really like that. But he was like, no, it looks good. And I was like, okay. And he.
Kevin Gates
You can't tell me.
Bobby
18.
Kevin Gates
You can't tell me what looks good. On me if I don't like it.
Bobby
Yeah, I was 18. Well, to be fair, you could do that to me today. I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I'm going to hurt your feelings. Cuz I hurt your feelings to protect my energy. Because protecting your energy is not a crime. Even when I'm on the phone with people, I don't say, hey, what you about to do? I'm gonna call you right back. That's a lie. Hey, look, I love you. I'm about to get off the phone. I don't owe you an explanation. If you don't like it, you can take it up with God. Because I don't care.
Bobby
I'll tell you. End your calls.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Hey, look, I love you. I'm about to get off the phone. What you about to do? Get off the phone.
Bobby
What if they say, please don't hang up, I want to talk longer.
Kevin Gates
Be like, let me tell you something. I understand why you feel like that. And if I were you, I'd feel like that. But you have to start pouring into the the part of yourself that feels empty without me. But it's going to be super difficult because I'm so full of love and my spirit, so healing to where anybody get in my presence, they don't want to leave. But if I give all of me away, I don't. I need to save some me for me. Yeah, I got to save some me for me.
Bobby
Profound.
Kevin Gates
She needs my love. She says, I'd like to air. Without me, she'll die. Forgive me. My sword.
Bobby
It's amazing. You're like a Spotify playlist.
Kevin Gates
Mm.
Bobby
All day. Great.
Kevin Gates
Dear kids, have you ever seen that movie let's Go to Jail?
Bobby
No.
Kevin Gates
Oh, my God.
Bobby
Haven't seen that.
Kevin Gates
When they be like, so what do we do all day? We're doing it. We're right in the thick of the action right now.
Bobby
What are they doing?
Kevin Gates
Sitting in a cell doing nothing. He was like, so what do we do all day? He was like, we're doing it. Oh, we're right in the thick of the action right now. And they were just sitting in the cell being bored.
Bobby
That was sad. That was my worst fear growing up was going to jail. I was just afraid I'd go to jail one day.
Kevin Gates
So I make it Moss Camp. Jail is a Mickey Mouse camp. It became so commercialized. They got so much protection in. So it ain't even like that no more.
Bobby
But it's fun.
Kevin Gates
It's a Mickey Mouse camp.
Bobby
It's like, I Don't think I want to go.
Kevin Gates
It's over. It's over. Popularized by people over popularize prison. And it's like they got something called. They got a crystal program that I involved myself with. And we are four programs being placed in the prison because we believe that given the opportunity to become better, a person would be better. But they have something called recidivism. And that's a person that if they been doing the same shit all of their life, if nothing changes, nothing changes. If you expect different results, but you keep doing the same shit, that's the definition of insanity. So that's considered recidivism. A repeat offender. Well, when I got with the crystal program, they were into anti recidivism, like keeping the programs in prison where people could become better. And like I say, the last prison that I went to was the best thing that ever happened to me because that's where they offer programs like yoga. And it changed my life because it's so beautiful. Because even when you uncomfortable, it teach you to breathe through uncomfortable situations. And I have gotten better. So those uncomfortable situations are comfort now. So I've been able to find comfort in my discomfort. So when you leave and you, you. It's like yoga is so relative to life. Because I was in. I was like embarrassed. I'm like, I don't want to be doing this. I'm not where everybody else at. And they said, you know what? This is everybody's individual journey. It's just. It's not. It's about progress. It's not even about who's the best. So each person is on their own individual journey. So it's so relatable and relative to life because we always put out, we. We always face with discomfort. But through breathing and things of that nature, we find comfort in that discomfort. So the outside may be chaotic, but the center is calm.
Bobby
How often do you do yoga?
Kevin Gates
I have to do it every day. It's my therapy.
Bobby
Little Bobby does it three times a day.
Kevin Gates
Lil Bobby? Yeah. You know who called you Little Bobby? Well, I really call her little Bobby because look, when you put little on the turn of term in the front of something, it's like a term of endearment. So, like, if I was with my woman, like, I'd be like, yeah, Little Kevin. Cause she. That's in the term of endearment. Cause she just a lit version of me. Cause you know how once you be around somebody so long, like when she leave here, she gonna be talking like me. Cause my swag so addictive. So like, when I be like, if somebody tell me something, I'll be like, yes, Lord. Like somebody. Especially if you hear little Bobby just walk around. Like I see her somewhere and she. Yes, Lord. Like, just try to like, mocking me. But it's beautiful though. So when I put Lil on the front or something, that's like a term of endearment. That's why when I introduced myself, I was like, how you. What up, Lil Bobby? I'm Kevin. You was like, that's all happened. You was like. I was like, what up, little Bobby?
Bobby
You was like, let's play that back. I don't. I don't know.
Kevin Gates
I don't know. You had to take your breath.
Bobby
My daughter does yoga too. My 4 year old.
Kevin Gates
I think it's beautiful.
Bobby
I don't. Cause I get so bored.
Kevin Gates
You ain't doing it with the right person.
Bobby
I just can't sit there. And I don't meditate either.
Kevin Gates
Can't do meditation. You're not meditating. You focusing on your breathing.
Bobby
I'm just addicted to my phone and I can't be off of it that.
Kevin Gates
Long, to be honest with you. That's not a good thing.
Bobby
It's a horrible thing.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. But you know what?
Bobby
What?
Kevin Gates
Admitting is the first step.
Bobby
Thanks.
Kevin Gates
I learned that at aa.
Bobby
AA for coffee?
Kevin Gates
Yep. I'm not gonna really tell you what it means, but yep.
Bobby
You're not gonna tell me what what means?
Kevin Gates
I can't do it.
Bobby
Tell me. I don't even know what you're talking about. Tell me.
Kevin Gates
I just can't do it. I just don't want to say it.
Bobby
Say it. Say it.
Kevin Gates
I just don't want to say it. Please. No, let's just stay away from that.
Bobby
I don't even know what we're talking about.
Kevin Gates
I know. So let's just stay away from that. Let's just go to the next question, please.
Bobby
No, I. I don't say what's on their mind.
Kevin Gates
Fuck my life. Nah, let's just go to the next. Let's just go to the next question.
Bobby
No, say what's on your mind.
Kevin Gates
It's not on my mind. It's just. It's not on my mind. It's a real thing, okay? And my team know what the thing is, and I just don't want to see it. Cause that's not like what we hear to do.
Bobby
Just say it.
Kevin Gates
I just don't want to say it.
Bobby
I think you should.
Kevin Gates
It's just not. It's just not. It's not what's up? It's not what's up. It's what's up. Yeah, but like I say, I don't want to be offensive, but it's not.
Bobby
What'S up to who? Me?
Kevin Gates
I hate. Yeah, I don't want to be offensive to you.
Bobby
Say it.
Kevin Gates
Nah, Levi, I respect you too much, bro. I ain't gonna lie. I do respect you. And you look. You might. I ain't saying you do, but you look like you just might have virgin ears and just. You ain't ready to hear this shit. This shit, like. Cause I really went to go see help. You know what I'm saying? That's why I said.
Bobby
Oh, for what?
Kevin Gates
One of my addictions, you know?
Bobby
What's your addiction? What was it? You can. This is why we gotta do this. This is a safe space. No one else is gonna hear this conversation between you and I. Yep.
Kevin Gates
Yep.
Bobby
Go ahead.
Kevin Gates
I just don't want to do it. I'm on my healing journey.
Bobby
Part of the first step of healing is admitting.
Kevin Gates
I already admitted that.
Bobby
Admitted to me.
Kevin Gates
I don't do confessions.
Bobby
Let's just try it right now.
Kevin Gates
I'm not Usher. These are like. I'm just not Usher.
Bobby
You're not going to give any confessions?
Kevin Gates
Shit, no.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Who the fuck. We have the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Ain't nobody going to knock on the police station to tell them what we tried to do.
Bobby
Okay, maybe next time. Maybe.
Kevin Gates
But that. I was speaking metaphorically when I said that. That's like somebody that's in a relationship. My partner was like, man, it's like going home and being interrogated by a detective. I say, you know, women are the best detectives.
Bobby
They are.
Kevin Gates
They know everything.
Bobby
They're ten steps ahead. Always.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Yeah. Ain't no woman gotta be 10 tubs ahead of me. Cause I'm brutally honest.
Bobby
Are you?
Kevin Gates
Oh, my God, Kevin. Where were you fucking. Oh, you want me to help you pack your shit or you.
Bobby
Oh, my God, Kevin.
Kevin Gates
I'll help you pack your shit or you can forget. Cause you knew what I was when you met me. Women already be knowing what you did before you did it, so why not be honest? I'mma create the space like my mother told me. My mother said, when you're honest with a woman, you give them the option. This is the option. You can f. You can love me or love me not. It doesn't matter. I love me.
Bobby
So you're always honest?
Kevin Gates
Always. Bae, you like my makeup? You want me to be honest? Fuck, no.
Bobby
I wouldn't want you to Talk a lot.
Kevin Gates
I think you more beautiful without the makeup.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
I think it take away from you, but if you want to wear it, cool.
Bobby
Yeah. I would never ask for your opinion.
Kevin Gates
Please don't.
Bobby
No. I'm not even tempted to do anything.
Kevin Gates
I stroke no ego. I don't struggle. Bae, do I look fat?
Bobby
Yeah. I wouldn't ask you any of those questions.
Kevin Gates
You want me to be honest, bae?
Bobby
I don't think she does. Lie to her sometimes.
Kevin Gates
No.
Bobby
Yeah. Well, try it sometimes. It might help your relationship.
Kevin Gates
Well, to be honest with you, I want somebody that's gonna hold me accountable.
Bobby
Yeah. Do you want her to be honest with you?
Kevin Gates
Of course.
Bobby
Do you ask her those questions?
Kevin Gates
Yes.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
What can I do to become greater? What could I do?
Bobby
Do I look fat?
Kevin Gates
Sometimes. I know because I have body dysmorphia. So I know I.
Bobby
That's what she might do.
Kevin Gates
I know I look good as fuck right now, but I've learned to love my body dysmorphia because it's what makes me get up and work every day. It's what makes me get up and put in the work every day. Like I worked out before I came here.
Bobby
Did you? What did you do?
Kevin Gates
I did whatever my body requires for me to be the best of the best. Sir.
Suki

Bobby
Did you serve in the military at all? No. I think you'd do great there.
Kevin Gates
Who, me?
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
No, I wouldn't.
Bobby
You know you would.
Kevin Gates
I wouldn't. I don't want to jump out the plane too much.
Bobby
They do that in the military.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, but I'm gonna want to do it again. Hey, tell them, come pick us up. Let's do it again. Messed up.
Bobby
They'll do it so many times.
Kevin Gates
They gonna be like, he needs to stick to the mission. He wanna keep jumping out the plane. I was like, you're not here to keep jumping out the plane, Kevin.
Bobby
You should die.
Kevin Gates
I will go. I think it's super cool. I'm infatuated with the Navy seals like I'm infatuated with.
Bobby
Do you think you could become one?
Kevin Gates
I would. I would. I would train until I'm able to become one.
Bobby
Would you?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
Little Bobby thought she could. She joined the Navy and tried to be a Navy seal, but she couldn't do it.
Kevin Gates
I want to be a SEAL team member. I want to be a seal.
Bobby
Yeah. What's that from?
Kevin Gates
She knows.
Bobby
I don't think she knows. I know her face. She has no idea.
Kevin Gates
I don't want to be a green boy. I don't wanna be a Greenblade. They feed you more than once a day. I'm infatuated. I watch nothing but Navy seals shit.
Bobby
Do you read books?
Kevin Gates
Do I read? I am.
Bobby
That wasn't a festival.
Kevin Gates
Lil Bobby, I am the book. Okay? People need to read me.
Bobby
Okay? Okay. Kevin. That wasn't offensive. I don't like.
Kevin Gates
I ain't take offense to it though. But I am the book.
Bobby
So I've read that one Navy SEAL book about the guy who. Who's a Navy seal. It's very descriptive of me.
Kevin Gates
I'll be watching videos of the Navy seals and. And I just love the training they do. The first thing they teach.
Bobby
Impossible.
Kevin Gates
The first thing. Nothing's impossible.
Bobby
Okay, then I want to see you do it.
Kevin Gates
No. Hey. No doesn't exist.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Okay.
Bobby
I don't.
Kevin Gates
No negative self talk.
Bobby
No, no negative. Just finish that sentence with no negative self talk.
Kevin Gates
No negative self talk. It's not impossible because they do it. Now, would I do it on the first rip? Probably not. But would I do it eventually? The more that I do it, the better I'm gonna become. That's my mindset.
Bobby
I think you could eventually do it. I know. Okay.
Kevin Gates
I'm already down there in Navy's Hill. The shit I be doing is unreal.
Bobby
What do you do?
Kevin Gates
I do it. I fucking do it.
Bobby
What does that mean?
Kevin Gates
That's why I have the body of a God.
Bobby
I wouldn't know that, but I know.
Kevin Gates
That'S cause I done finally got so comfortable in my own skin, I ain't even gotta wear fitted shit. I ain't gotta show my body no more. I ain't gotta show it.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
But I love that when I come out my shirt. Cause I used to be so fat. Like, I had man tits. I was fat like.
Bobby
Did you?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, like titty man.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
And I never had no surgery. I never took no Ozempic. I did it the hard way. It took me longer, but I'm stronger. So when I come out my shirt and my woman look at me with admiration.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
That's all the reward I need. Oh, baby, you can go to sleep. No, I don't want to. I don't want you to touch me.
Bobby
Is that what happens now?
Kevin Gates
No, it's just the appreciation that I have for myself. Because, you know, I'm into longevity.
Bobby
Are you?
Kevin Gates
This gonna take too long. And I gotta get up and go to the gym in the morning.
Bobby
Your poor girlfriend, wife, anything. That's.
Kevin Gates
Man, fuck her. She gonna be all right. I'm the blessing. I honor the commitments I make to myself first. The gym is more important than giving a shit. That's all I'm gonna be doing, is giving her pleasure. That's all I'm gonna be doing. Because I aim to please my partner. So the gym is more rewarding for me than this. This is nothing. This is more rewarding. I love when I honor the commitments I make to myself. It builds self confidence. That's why I exude self confidence. Cause I know I did what I was supposed to do before I came in this room. People be like, you're. You're full of yourself. You fucking right I am, buddy. Fool is not the word. I'm proud of me.
Bobby
Yeah. That's what you'd call yourself. Just proud of yourself.
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
Now, do you have anything wrong with you?
Kevin Gates
No. I'm perfect.
Bobby
Not one thing?
Kevin Gates
No.
Bobby
Can't name anything.
Kevin Gates
I'm perfect because mistakes make us great. So I'm perfect.
Bobby
You are.
Kevin Gates
I'm gonna make a bunch of new mistakes tomorrow that I never made before. So I'm Perfect.
Bobby
It's an interesting perspective.
Kevin Gates
Perfect imperfections.
Bobby
I would love that type of.
Kevin Gates
If you don't have any, if you never made a mistake in your life, then you're fucking boring. You never pulled off from the gas station with the fucking thing still. The nozzle still stuck in the car. You're fucking boring. Yeah, more than once.
Bobby
I've never done lot. Yeah, boring or just you take it out and put it away.
Kevin Gates
For me, it's just the people be too careful and they be. They're boring. They try not to be offensive and all that. They just super boring people. I don't live like that. I engage with the world. I operate out of gratitude. Damn, I pulled off from the thing. At least I got a car to do it with. At least I had a car to make a mistake in. Fuck, I'm grateful. I operate out of gratitude. Once you change your perspective, that's when miracles happen. Like, if I get a stain on my shirt, I just make a joke about it.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Like if I'm about to trip or something. If somebody saw me trip, I just take an extra little step and be like, did y'all see that? That was a fucking lawsuit. I just do shit like that. Like, I'm like. Once I learn how to laugh at myself, it just relieves stress.
Bobby
That's amazing.
Kevin Gates
Like, one time I was in the gym trying to do a little stretch thing, and I fell and I started laughing at myself. And a lady came up to me and told me. She said, like, you're so funny. I said, why you say that?
Bobby
You just gave her your white accents.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. I be wrong, you know, When I put you with the right people, you gonna stay next door to white people? Cause I'm from the ghetto. I'm still like bougetto. That's like bougie and ghetto.
Bobby
Got it. Got it.
Kevin Gates
And who ghetto? So, yeah, that's me. So sometime I do my little white voice.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Cause that's like. It's like fun sometimes. Cause you look at me with tattoos. I got diamonds in my mouth. And then I'm in the store, I just get on the phone and hey, honey bunch. Because I heard this dude argue with his wife years ago. He was like, honey bunch, honey bunch. And I just. For some reason, I'm like, hey, babe. Hey, honey bunch. What's going on? Hey, honey bunch. And I just like, when white people be around me. They'll look and be like, I did not expect you to talk like that. I don't talk like that. It just wasn't.
Bobby
What what did she say to you at the gym?
Kevin Gates
She said, she said your energy. She said your energy is everything and you're funny without trying to be. And that was like the most beautiful thing somebody told me. They say, you intelligent, you real and you funny. I'm like, that's raw. No, she like, you intelligent, you funny, and you realize what you see is what you get. What you see is what you get.
Bobby
I love that for you.
Kevin Gates
I love that for me. Nope, you gotta do it.
Bobby
Not that time.
Kevin Gates
I love that for me.
Bobby
Yeah. Is that what I sound like to you in your head?
Kevin Gates
Shit, no. You sound.
Bobby
Go ahead and mock me right now.
Kevin Gates
I came. I wouldn't. Because you sound like real nonchalant and you be as like it's so monotone. Like you just be like, don't nothing excite you. You, you sound like it's like a mix between Al Bundy and. I'm just saying energetically.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Because it's so monotone and nonchalant. It's like, do anything. Like I'm like, like, let's live. Like, can we live? Like, let's go live. Engage with the world.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Cause I like, I'm passionate. I'm super passionate about everything.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Like, but then I've been in prison and shit. You know what I'm saying?
Bobby
Have you?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, duh, duh, duh.
Bobby
I wouldn't. Why would I? I didn't see that when I googled you.
Kevin Gates
That's good.
Bobby
It's not at the top of the list of now.
Kevin Gates
That just means that my positivity overshadows.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
My low frequencies. But that. I don't know why. Because prison was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Bobby
How long were you there?
Kevin Gates
Which time?
Bobby
How many times?
Kevin Gates
I've been in and out of prison since I was 13.
Bobby
You can go to prison as a 13 year old.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. It's called juvenile.
Bobby
What did, what did you do to go to. You don't have to answer that.
Kevin Gates
I don't have to answer it.
Bobby
You don't. But if you want to. What did you do as a 13 year old?
Kevin Gates
The, the laws was fucked up then.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
And, and because the laws was fucked up, they should have provided programs for somebody that's in juvenile detention and at a young age. That's what they should have provided. But by them not providing, it contributes to recidivism because once your fear of imprisonment is gone and you back in a poverty stricken environment, it's so much easier to go back because you no longer have a fear of imprisonment. So you don't change unless you want change for yourself. So I was just one of the ones that was fortunate enough to want change for myself.
Bobby
How many times did you go?
Kevin Gates
A lot.
Bobby
You don't remember or you don't want to tell?
Kevin Gates
I don't remember because I've been so many times. I grew up there.
Bobby
What's the longest?
Kevin Gates
My last bid. I just did. I came home. Just a bid means.
Bobby
When did you get back?
Kevin Gates
2018, when I was reinserted. But a bid means like you're length of time, like you have a commitment date. From your commitment date.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
To your reinsertment into society date. So that's a bid. Like a prison sentence. A bid.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
I was there like 30, 33 months.
Bobby
33 years. 33 months.
Kevin Gates
33 months.
Bobby
That's a long time. What is that?
Kevin Gates
Almost like three years?
Bobby
Yeah. That's a long time.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. 12 times 3? 36.
Bobby
It wasn't scary.
Kevin Gates
Scary.
Bobby
That's what I think of when I think of jail. Yeah, scary.
Kevin Gates
Well, if I were you, I would.
Bobby
Okay, but for you it wasn't scary.
Kevin Gates
Tough situations make us tough.
Bobby
So it's not scary to you at all?
Kevin Gates
We don't faint in the first of adversity.
Bobby
Is it like the movies and shows?
Kevin Gates
No, that's tv. No, that's Mickey Mouse.
Bobby
Do you have friends there when you're in there?
Kevin Gates
I didn't come here to make any friends.
Bobby
Not here. In. In prison.
Kevin Gates
That's what I say in prison. Excuse me. I didn't.
Bobby
I was like, okay, you don't have to be my friend if you're not.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I didn't come. Yeah, that's what I tell people in jail. I didn't come here to make any friends and I wasn't made.
Bobby
Do they try to be your friend? They know who you are and they try or they're just also.
Kevin Gates
I done met some good people, but I'm so to myself and introverted when I'm in those type of environments. Because that's not a time to be extroverted. That's a time to be self reflective. So I don't do. I don't engage in any social activities. I don't watch tv, don't get on the phone. I read and work out.
Bobby
They give you books?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I started my own book club.
Bobby
Other library.
Kevin Gates
And when I say I started my own book club, it was just you. I got stacked. I get stacks of books mailed into the prison and then I go to.
Bobby
Oh, people can mail you books.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I get mail. Fan Mail. Stacks of books. I go to the law library. I drink coffee.
Bobby
The what?
Kevin Gates
The law library.
Bobby
What's that?
Kevin Gates
Well, it's a library where you can study law. Like they have the Criminal Court of Procedures and you can go through there and look up old cases that may be relevant to your case.
Bobby
Oh, so you can help yourself and.
Kevin Gates
You can find loopholes and you can get back in front of the judge and come home. Hopefully, you know, yeah, shit like that.
Bobby
Good for. Good for you. Did you learn anything in there? Did you get yourself off?
Kevin Gates
The law is ambiguous in nature, and ambiguous means it can be interpreted however it needs to be interpreted. But I do love law. Yeah, I learned a lot about the law. I try to operate within the confines of the law now because I know it. Once you know it, you can't un. Once you see something and learn something, you can't unlearn it. When it's relative to law, you don't.
Bobby
Want to go back. Right.
Kevin Gates
To prison?
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
To be honest with you, I'm done with it. Like, the universe just saw that I'm done. Like the way that I've leveled up in my life, like, I no longer need prison. I can self reflect. I can isolate out here and just self reflect. But God, the universe felt like I needed that isolation period because most epiphanies happen when you're in your solitude.
Bobby
So you learned a lot during.
Kevin Gates
By myself, I'm so advanced that God had to slow me down.
Bobby
You feel like it was good for you?
Kevin Gates
It was the best thing that ever happened. I would have never agreed to doing this had I not started thinking outside of the box. And my last. I said, you know what? Every time I come to jail, I don't do nothing but sit and play chess and drink. I do the same shit and nothing else changes. So I said, you know what? I'm going to involve myself in programs and, and this and this and that. So when I started doing yoga, that was like getting outside of the box for me. And when you start. When you start wanting better for yourself, you start doing better for yourself. So it's the mindset. You have to sacrifice your old habits for your new life.
Bobby
Do you do anything now to help younger people stay out?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, just look at me. I exude positivity. I exude adversity. Like, getting like adversity builds character. I've had the hardest life ever. I wasn't born rich, born poor. We don't have to be.
Bobby
Are you. So you were born in la?
Kevin Gates
I'm born in Louisiana. Oh, that's the worst place you can be.
Bobby
Really?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. They have more people incarcerated there than anywhere in the country put together. There's nothing to do there but die and go to jail. That's it. So just for me to get on Instagram and say, you know what? I'm about to go to the gym and work out. There's been a big boom in the fitness community since I started working out. Everybody's working out now, so it's beautiful. I'm influential in ways that look like nothing to me. But people walk up to me and tell me how. I listen to your interviews, man, you've changed my life. That's the most beautiful thing people tell me. And no disrespect, I never heard nobody walk up to nobody that was on only fans and say, hey, you changed my life. You might have changed my wallet, but you didn't change my life.
Bobby
I'm on only fans.
Kevin Gates
Me too.
Bobby
I'm not actually.
Kevin Gates
I'm the most boring. I got the most boring only fans ever. I'm on there making a soup out of healthy.
Bobby
You're actually on only.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I got an only fans. I forgot that password. I did one video.
Bobby
How much did you make?
Kevin Gates
I don't even know. Don't even care. Because if my heart not in and my heart not in it.
Bobby
Were you considering doing?
Kevin Gates
I was like, I'm a trick them. I'm a show. And I got on there and was cooking a soup. I'm like, hi, guys. Welcome to my only fans. And I'm on there making a soup. I did that and I recorded that in Seattle.
Bobby
How long ago?
Kevin Gates
Like three or four years ago. I don't know. That's only fans.
Bobby
Yeah, you can. You can do anything you want, though. I've heard.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I ain't got to be on that.
Bobby
Doing art and stuff. Yeah, you know.
Kevin Gates
Cause all you're doing is faking.
Bobby
Faking what?
Kevin Gates
What? On only fans. Yeah, you just faking. That ain't really who you is in real life.
Bobby
I've never, like, logged on.
Kevin Gates
Ain't no pressure getting applied. You getting on there faking. So I don't even wanna see that. That's not reality.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
With all due respect, but no disrespect to nobody else who, if it make you happy, keep going. But I was with somebody and they got an only fan. I ain't know people be recognizing people from that. And all of the men that came up and spoke to her, they gave off creep energy. And I saw that she ain't really care for that. But the people that came up and spoke to me was like, man, you changed my life. Thank you for being you. Thank you for your transparency. We went through some of the same shit. People walk up to me and cry every day. They be like, man, your journey's been healing. I say, yeah, it's been a long one. I said, we did good. We got a long way to go. And I still got a long way to go. I know that. Tell me about it.
Bobby
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Kevin Gates
I don't even think that far.
Bobby
Where do you see yourself tomorrow?
Kevin Gates
Shit. Alive. Hopefully tomorrow.
Bobby
I guess a lot can change in 24 hours. I hope that doesn't.
Kevin Gates
Well, death is forever present. It's a harsh truth. This life is a beautiful lie you believe in. I could put on all the makeup. You say, do I believe in heaven?
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
What's my name? Kevin.
Bobby
Yeah. What is option?
Kevin Gates
Can't be no coincidences that it rhyme with heaven.
Bobby
Wasn't really okay. I didn't put that together.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. When you round me we in heaven.
Bobby
Oh, well then you don't have to go there. It's good. Say you do, huh? You do believe in heaven?
Kevin Gates
I believe in me.
Bobby
So you don't believe in heaven?
Kevin Gates
I am heaven. What you mean? This is heaven in my presence.
Bobby
What happens to you when you die?
Kevin Gates
I never died yet. I wouldn't know. I'm immortal. You dead? You been dead before?
Bobby
Yeah, for a little bit.
Kevin Gates
How long? I'm about to say. Cause I ain't done died yet.
Bobby
I don't know anybody who's actually died.
Kevin Gates
Nah, I've been in hell before.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
I take you to my own neighborhood in Louisiana. Hey. It's like being in hell, is it? Yeah.
Bobby
Have you been back?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
Do your parents still live there?
Kevin Gates
No. No, it's like being in hell.
Bobby
What? What can you describe to me?
Kevin Gates
Hell on earth?
Bobby
I don't know. I've never been to hell.
Kevin Gates
The ghetto is like hell. They got a lot of them all over the world. Yeah, it's like growing up in hell. Third world country. It's the worst of the worst. And if you can make it from that environment, yeah, you achieve heaven. But a person that was already born in heaven, they don't appreciate heaven.
Bobby
It's true.
Kevin Gates
Because they never experienced the low frequency. To experience the high frequency without the rain, you can't. You can't appreciate sunshine. So I love my journey. It was a blessing. Cuz now every day I wake up, I'm like, I have neighbors.
Bobby
And now do you Live in a suburb?
Kevin Gates
Yep.
Bobby
Do you have dogs? Do you walk your dogs?
Kevin Gates
I don't have any dogs at this property.
Bobby
How many properties do you have?
Kevin Gates
I got a nice little portfolio. Oh, it's not owned by me, but it's owned by.
Bobby
Yeah, by ya.
Kevin Gates
I got a nice little portfolio.
Bobby
Who's. Yeah, your company.
Kevin Gates
My liar.
Bobby
Your who? My what does that mean?
Kevin Gates
I fuck with you.
Bobby
You're what?
Kevin Gates
I fuck with you. You're so white. Oh, now when I say. Yeah, that's true. Nah, you're so white. I fuck with you.
Bobby
Not to real.
Kevin Gates
It's not a bad thing. It's like, oh, my God, Kevin, is that drugs? Like, it's just. I love it though. It's beautiful. Cause I'm like. To you, I'm like exotic. So it's beautiful, like.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Then I'm from Louisiana, so I know you don't really understand nothing I'm saying right now.
Bobby
I don't. What word did you just say that what I'm saying? Okay, well, help me understand or don't. And then just sit here and like.
Kevin Gates
When you say, you say like. Like my lady. Yeah, it's like. Could be used as a noun. It could describe. It's like the word. It describe a person, place or thing. Regular shit.
Bobby
Did you spell it for me?
Kevin Gates
What?
Bobby
Yeah, yeah.
Kevin Gates
Y E8 yeah.
Bobby
That's what you were saying?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, yeah. Or how would you say it? Yeah.
Bobby
No.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Yes, sir.
Bobby
Okay, so. So you a lot of things.
Kevin Gates
Lil Bobby, man. I like Lil Bobby. Lil Bobby cool as a bitch.
Bobby
As a bitch. Is that cool?
Kevin Gates
Cause that cool? Yeah. Cool as a bitch. Mean like. Yeah, if I say you cool, that's just you regular cool. But I say, man, Bobby, cool as a bitch. That mean like you super cool.
Bobby
Okay, I was worried it was.
Kevin Gates
Or if I say. If I say I love you, I just regular love you. But see if I love the fuck out you. Hey, Sabre. I love the fuck out you. That mean like my whole heart.
Bobby
Okay. How much do you love me? Just love.
Kevin Gates
We gotta give it time.
Bobby
Yeah, we'll give it time.
Kevin Gates
Gotta give it time, baby.
Bobby
Should I go back to the first question?
Kevin Gates
Well, slow be for sure. What's fast on last? Let's not rush into anything. Let's take our time with it, you know? Slow be for sure. Slow motion is for show. Motion never no motion.
Bobby
Do you feel it?
Kevin Gates
And when I say for sure, that's like for sure. Oh, yes, sure. Like for sure. But I just say for show. Yeah, for sure.
Bobby
Yeah. Do you feel your inner Child coming out at all.
Kevin Gates
It's gonna come out all the time, but I know what areas to stay away from.
Bobby
You said that when you're comfortable, your inner child comes out. And I asked you if you. If it's coming out at all with me, and it wasn't before. I'm asking you again.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, he coming out a little bit.
Bobby
Okay. That's great.
Kevin Gates
He's a tortoise. He just kind of. His head coming out. He coming out the shell.
Bobby
Okay. Wow.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. And the reason I say that. Cause I have a tortoise named George.
Bobby
Of course you do. Yeah. Why did you name it George?
Kevin Gates
Cause he curious. If you walk around and make noise, his head come out a little bit. If I come in the room, his whole head gonna come out. But, like, if you want to see, feel the energy, just a little tip come out. He peek around then. That's why his name George. He's curious. He posed to be worth a lot of money, but he was a gift to me, so I don't know.
Bobby
You don't want to sell him?
Kevin Gates
No.
Bobby
Don't they live forever?
Kevin Gates
I hope he do. He cool.
Bobby
Who are you gonna give them to when you die?
Kevin Gates
I don't know, but I know he supposed to be worth a lot of money. The dude that I got him from say that he's worth a lot of money.
Bobby
I was like, you never checked it?
Kevin Gates
No. Then I got a miniature English bulldog named Shorty. Cause she's short.
Bobby
Who named her that?
Kevin Gates
Me. I was trying to figure out a name for her, and I was gonna name her Reese's.
Bobby
Yeah. Why?
Kevin Gates
Because I used to like Reese's, Reese's Pieces, peanut butter cookies.
Bobby
What made you not name her that?
Kevin Gates
She don't answer to that shit. I be like, Shorty, and she just come when I say so.
Bobby
Oh, the mix.
Kevin Gates
Then I had one, I had another one named Yogi. And the reason I call that yo, Yoga, because whenever I used to be doing yoga, like the upper dog, downward dog, she would get up in the morning and do the same pose as me. I don't know if that's in her nature, but she used to be stretching, and so I just named her Yogi. Yep. They kind of picked their own names.
Bobby
Do they?
Kevin Gates
Based on it.
Bobby
Did your kids pick their own name? No.
Kevin Gates
I knew my son. I knew. I knew, like, Isla and Kaza. Well, Isla, her mama named her, and I knew Kaza. Once I found out he was a boy, I was incarcerated, though. She was like, I'm pregnant with a boy. I was like, I want to name him Kaza. Something powerful. And I named him Kaza.
Bobby
He likes his name.
Kevin Gates
He got the flyest name ever. Ain't he beautiful?
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Then my other little son, Kayson.
Bobby
How's the cute name?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, his name Kayson. It's like a mixture between Kevin and Jason.
Bobby
Who's Jason?
Kevin Gates
I got an older brother named Jason and his uncle named Jason. Oh, so Kevin plus Jason Kayson.
Bobby
Adorable.
Kevin Gates
And then I got my oldest son, his name Tyler.
Bobby
That's not what I expected after all those unique names.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. And then my oldest daughter, her name Mia.
Bobby
While you got something.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I was slinging that bitch. I was slanging that bitch. I ain't gonna lie.
Bobby
You were doing what?
Kevin Gates
I was slanging that.
Bobby
What does that mean?
Kevin Gates
Well, when. That's when you say I was. When you use the term, I was slanging that bitch. Yeah, that's colloquial for I was engaging in activity. I was slanging that.
Bobby
What?
Kevin Gates
When I say I'm slanging that bitch. Yeah, that's like. That's colloquially speaking. That's like you're paraphrasing for an activity. So instead of you just saying I was engaging in sexual activity, you just paraphrase and say colloquially. Because vernacular is proper English. So you want to say colloquially, I was slanging that bitch.
Bobby
Thank you.
Kevin Gates
Yes, Lord. That's what I'm here for.
Bobby
Thank you for helping me understand everything.
Kevin Gates
That's what I'm here for. I got. Hey, whenever you need insights, I got you. I told you, I'm busgetto.
Bobby
Yeah, yeah.
Kevin Gates
I'm a ghetto philosopher. You need insight. Hey, I'm the guy.
Bobby
Oh, Oscar.
Kevin Gates
Cause some people tell you something and won't even give you no. They won't give you no definitive with it. They won't define it. I invented that word definitive. Cause it sounds so elegant.
Bobby
You invented it?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. I invented the word recreative also because people like. Like I could say I'm a recreational reader, but it doesn't flow. So when I say I read recreatively, I'm a recreative reader. I invented that word.
Bobby
You should. I am the contact Miriam Webster.
Kevin Gates
And let her know she ain't on my level. It's going to take too long for me to get her up to speed. So we just need to go and make our own dictionary up because.
Bobby
Is it on Urban Dictionary? Is it on Urban Dictionary or New Words?
Kevin Gates
Urban. They not urban enough. See, see, they got. They got the streets, then they got the street streets, then you got people like me. I'm under the gutter. Oh, my God. I know. We going, hey, look, we gonna stop while we here. But I'm under the gutter.
Bobby
Why do you say that? Let's not stop over at under the guttle. Keep going.
Kevin Gates
That, that, that term of references. You know how you got. You got people that grew up in a rough area?
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
So you're a hood guy. You lived in the neighborhood. Then you got. You got people that participated in the activities. Yeah. The extra. The extracurricular activities that go on in the hood. So you in the streets with it for real. Then you got the people that's up under the gutter that's in control. All that slum lords. Yeah. I hope I'm giving you a greater understanding.
Bobby
I'm learning so much.
Kevin Gates
Yes, Lord, I got you. Whenever you. Hey, whenever you need insight, come fuck with me.
Bobby
Yeah, I can.
Kevin Gates
And I talk and I talk slick so the charges don't stick. Yeah, that's me. I'm him. You are h. I m His Imperial Majesty. Binge drop A big time. A breadwinner anatomy.
Bobby
Wow. What are you thinking right now? Because I felt like you stopped talking about.
Kevin Gates
I was just having. I just see people do that to me all the time. I was having a thought, that's all. I just was having a little thought.
Bobby
Sure. It.
Kevin Gates
It was kind of like I was like. You know how you had one of the moments, you be like, I'm him.
Bobby
Oh, no.
Kevin Gates
That's what I. Yeah, I know you don't.
Bobby
But. Yeah, I don't have those.
Kevin Gates
I had a moment. You might have a moment. I'm hurt. Her. I am so hurt for this.
Bobby
I love. But you know, this voice change every time.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. This. This. This moment, I was like, I'm him.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
And I had to just pause and let the greatness settle in because I'm him. I'm him.
Bobby
I want to be on.
Kevin Gates
I was going to interview with Little Bobby. You know what I'm saying? We in this. You Little Bobby. But I really call her Little Bobby because that was my term, render endearment. But not. You know, y'all look alike, so you look. Yeah, Little Bobby.
Bobby
She's uncomfortable that I involve her in everything I do.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. That my dog. My fuck. She got some good. Some cool little energy.
Bobby
What inspired your coffee?
Kevin Gates
What? That feather. That's my.
Bobby
Just the whole box in general. Like, what inspired that?
Kevin Gates
I used to be involved in illegitimacy.
Bobby
What does that mean?
Kevin Gates
Selling bricks of cocaine.
Bobby
That happens. Yeah, I used to do that too.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. So anyway, I Took a nick.
Bobby
You've never done it, but you've sold it.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, but.
Bobby
So you never tried the cocaine you sold?
Kevin Gates
I ain't got to. I got testers.
Bobby
You got what?
Kevin Gates
Check this out. A tester.
Bobby
Oh, okay.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, he'll check it out, tell me.
Bobby
What you think, and they just. They snort it.
Kevin Gates
If that's what we doing.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
But if we manufacturing, they gonna have to smoke.
Bobby
I feel like you should put that over here.
Kevin Gates
What?
Bobby
Give me. Put one right here.
Kevin Gates
You want one?
Bobby
Just. Yeah, I want to look at it.
Kevin Gates
Oh, all right.
Bobby
This is. Thanks for the presentation.
Kevin Gates
Oh, yes, Lord. So then I took a negative and turned it to a positive.
Bobby
How do you not.
Kevin Gates
Bricks of coffee open this?
Bobby
Oh, it's just. It looks like it's taped.
Kevin Gates
Once you cut the ca. Yeah. They about to pull in the driveway. Take the work off, cut the duct tape, check the work off.
Bobby
Do you sell this? Where do you sell this?
Kevin Gates
On my website.
Bobby
What's your website?
Kevin Gates
Breadwinner Alumni.
Bobby
Oh, my goodness.
Kevin Gates
Yes. I love that.
Bobby
That's what it's called.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Breadwinner Alumni.
Bobby
Straight dope in your cup.
Kevin Gates
I mean, that straight drop, chocolatey and.
Bobby
Smooth, should be consumed carefully as espresso or brewed. Oh, you can do it as espresso. I like a French one. Your name is crossed out. This is really. I like. This is cute. It's adorable.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. You trying to negative it to a positive? It's very all positive into a positive is all how you look at it.
Bobby
I think you should have a discount code, Bobby. 10. 10 off. Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Type in little Bobby, you get 5% off.
Bobby
Why 5?
Kevin Gates
Depends on worth, depending on how many you buy.
Bobby
I think we start at 10.
Kevin Gates
Hey, the more you buy, the better our supply.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, Little Bobby.
Bobby
Let's start at 10, though.
Kevin Gates
I like 5. My birthday's on the 5th.
Bobby
Of what?
Kevin Gates
February.
Bobby
Oh, my gosh. You just turned 39.
Kevin Gates
I'm immortal, so I just go with what the papers say.
Bobby
That means you're about to be 40.
Kevin Gates
I guess on paper I'm really like 3,000. Yeah, they're going 300.
Bobby
Are you. Is that crazy? You're gonna be 40.
Kevin Gates
What?
Bobby
That's just. That's kind of old.
Kevin Gates
No, because I feel better than I felt when I was 17.
Bobby
So you're a guy. So you don't age ever?
Kevin Gates
Well, that's not really why I'm a God, so I don't.
Bobby
Oh, that's why. Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, you heard. What? You called me earlier.
Bobby
Yeah, you're right.
Kevin Gates
You're not the only one who listens about. I eat. I'm a great listener.
Bobby
Are you?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. When I'm not thinking, I'm listening.
Bobby
Are you good at reading people? Like, no, no, no.
Kevin Gates
I've had some major disappointments. That's a major disappointment. I've been. I didn't read. Didn't read the play.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
What. What would you say to me? What would you say about me after sitting here with me?
Kevin Gates
You cool as a bitch. I ain't gonna lie. You cool people. You cool. I fuck with you. You cool. Cool.
Bobby
So you're gonna go on the road trip? That's what I'm hearing.
Kevin Gates
If you really serious, but you might not like my energy in the car.
Bobby
Then I'll get out.
Kevin Gates
I can't just let you get out anywhere. You know they got lions and tigers and bears. Oh my.
Bobby
I won't get out in a dangerous area.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, you tell me like, Kevin, take me here. Like, come on, let's go. Yeah, I got you.
Bobby
Let's. Let's go.
Kevin Gates
Sorry I wasn't everything you needed me to be. Blessings on your journey.
Bobby
That's what you're going to say when I get out?
Kevin Gates
Yes. Blessings on your journey. Sorry I wasn't everything that you needed me to be cuz I was made like this.
Bobby
That's a very interesting apology.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Because I operate out of love. Like, I don't get mad at a woman, be like, I just don't want to do this anymore. Well, I love you so much. I want you to be happy even if you're not with me. Blessings on your journey.
Bobby
I feel like when a woman says she doesn't want to do this, she wants you to be like, no, don't.
Kevin Gates
Leave where you want me to take you. I don't chase. I replace.
Bobby
No, you're going to chase sometimes.
Kevin Gates
No, I don't.
Bobby
Yeah, sometimes I don't chase.
Kevin Gates
I tra.
Bobby
You can chase a woman sometimes.
Kevin Gates
It's a game. I'm not about to chase nothing. I don't want nothing that don't want me.
Bobby
They. But women say things they don't mean sometimes.
Kevin Gates
That's cool.
Bobby
So you're just.
Kevin Gates
But they got some real women out here that say everything they mean. I've had some great relationships and guess who fucked em up.
Bobby
Oh, you.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I fucked em up. Cause I wasn't ready to receive that type of love.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
So I done learn. Like when I hear men say it ain't no good women. They got good women out here, great ones.
Bobby
Men say that sometimes I feel like women just say a lot about men.
Kevin Gates
And if they say that I know some great men.
Bobby
Do you?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, it's great women and great men out here. That's like this. If you drive a Honda, okay, and you get on the interstate, you start seeing nothing but Hondas because that's what you focused on. Yeah, but if you say I'm account every Corvette I see, you start seeing them because of this. Because that's what you focus on. When you focus on, that's what you notice. Yeah, I don't focus on bullshit. I focus on greatness. So that's how I attract.
Bobby
But what if all you see is Hondas? There's nothing else and everybody else is like, oh look, there's only Hondas around you.
Kevin Gates
Longevity.
Bobby
I don't know what that means.
Kevin Gates
You're a hell of a Honda.
Bobby
So just take the Honda because it's.
Kevin Gates
I don't settle.
Bobby
Okay, so then sometimes all men can be shitty. Maybe that's.
Kevin Gates
I have settled before in the past, but I don't do no selling no more. But that's when I didn't know my self worth.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Because I'm not looking for somebody to complete me. I'm going to complete myself and I'm going to share my completeness with a complete person. Okay, I don't need you. I want you, but I don't need you. And if it ever get to the point where I can't live without you, I need you. That I need to analyze. What is this emptiness inside of myself that make me feel like I need this person? Like I don't. I hate that for me. Like what do I need?
Bobby
I don't like that feeling either. It's easier said than done.
Kevin Gates
What? I hate to say this.
Bobby
Okay, say it.
Kevin Gates
What I'm about to say.
Bobby
But you say that a lot.
Kevin Gates
Anybody that ever been with me, they gonna feel like that.
Bobby
Feel like what?
Kevin Gates
They need me. It's just life. Just not life without me. I used to feel like the world didn't spin right without me in it. And then I found out I was fucking right.
Bobby
Oh wow.
Kevin Gates
I. I didn't want to see it.
Bobby
You. That's what women world doesn't spend right.
Kevin Gates
Without me in it. Didn't want to see it.
Bobby
That's. I'm proud of how I'm really.
Kevin Gates
I'm really being a goofy right now. But I bring joy to a lot of people's lives. I do.
Bobby
Do you feel bad when you break people's hearts? Because you did. Why?
Kevin Gates
Because they needed to be held accountable for loving you. What? No, That's. That's. That's not. That's. That's insanity. And I understand, because if I were you, I'd be insane about me, too.
Bobby
That's what you think about the women you date.
Kevin Gates
I make it. What did I say? It ain't a bitch. I can't make crazy. After you be with me, you gonna be crazy. Oh, I. I just pour so much everything. I do everything out of love. I pour so much. Like one of my first dates, we went grocery shopping. I came to the house and cooked for the woman. Come on, man. My partner called. Look, I'm gonna call you back. I'm about to rub some feet. Oh, my God. I love that. For me, I'm just the best.
Bobby
Then you leave them.
Kevin Gates
But I get bored fast. Cause if I'm. I ask myself, am I. I'm pouring in. I'm giving. Is this energy being reciprocated? It's not. I've lost interest. Because I'mma ask myself, can I see myself doing this for the next five years? I can't.
Bobby
Then you're.
Kevin Gates
I know. I was over with.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
I'm bored. I get bored fast.
Bobby
That's so sad.
Kevin Gates
Like, it's not sad.
Bobby
It's sad for the people who.
Kevin Gates
No, it's not. They got to experience greatness. Even if it was for a short while, they got to experience greatness.
Bobby
I'm gonna try to think like that about.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, it's about perspective.
Bobby
It is.
Kevin Gates
But I. I'm the closest to heaven that she'll ever be, and she don't want to go home right now. Yep.
Bobby
I will say that. I think most women think men think like that, so.
Kevin Gates
I don't think like that.
Bobby
You just said you did.
Kevin Gates
I know.
Bobby
Okay. That's the fear of the world.
Kevin Gates
Cool. Don't with me then.
Bobby
That they're gonna get bored and just be done.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I'm gonna get bored.
Bobby
Yeah. That's what women think of. That's. Don't. Don't you need to work on.
Kevin Gates
I don't need to work on board. I don't need to work on that because I've been with people that was an adventure every day because they challenged me.
Bobby
And then you got bored.
Kevin Gates
No, I didn't get bored. I wasn't ready to receive the type of love that they are, you know? Yeah, I'm ready now. I'm ready for the world.
Bobby
You ready to receive that, too?
Kevin Gates
I'm ready to receive now. I was in a. I was guarded, so to say. Cause I Had been hurt, so I was guarded. And that's what we do. We're in defense, defensive mode. So when I reflect back, that's why all of them know, if you ever need me for anything, I'mma always be there for you. Because you changed my life. You showed me that real love existed in this world. Now everybody's so selfish these days. And it was beautiful. Like, it was beautiful. I get sad, I cry sometimes when I miss people. It's okay to miss people. But we ain't never going backwards. You could take that same energy and take it to the gym and make yourself better. Cause what's for you, if it's meant for you, it's not gonna miss you. So the right thing gonna come. Yeah, it's in raw right now. Might walk outside that door and she's.
Bobby
Just gonna be standing there.
Kevin Gates
Ain't gonna be like that. But it's gonna be something beautiful to happen. It's gonna be something that you know was otherworldly. Like you might meet somebody and be like, it's like I'm fucking been knowing you forever and it's gonna be something. Cause weird things happen to me all the time. Like I meet some of the strangest, most interesting people that just be attracted to me. Like I met a fucking monk one time that said he never talked, but he had to talk to me, real talk.
Bobby
He talked to you?
Kevin Gates
Yes.
Bobby
Was he allowed?
Kevin Gates
I don't know. He taught me about chi. Like energy. I like your chi. The energy that's in your. In your body.
Bobby
Like still a monk.
Kevin Gates
I don't know, but I know he had on that. And he said he had broke his bowel of silence to talk to me.
Bobby
My God.
Kevin Gates
He said something about my aura. Yeah, I meet some of the most interesting people. Everywhere I go, people just talk to me. And I don't even look approachable.
Bobby
Do you not? What do you look like? Show me. No, really.
Kevin Gates
I look like this. But some people be afraid of greatness.
Bobby
Yeah, that's.
Kevin Gates
I'm so great, they be afraid to approach me.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Then I be by myself all the.
Bobby
Time because I was nervous to say hi to you.
Kevin Gates
You're supposed to be. Yeah, look at me.
Bobby
Well, no, it's just. Cuz you didn't. You would like walk past me and I was like, oh, probably when we were over here earlier.
Kevin Gates
Nah, I kind of shook your hand after.
Bobby
But you walked past me first.
Kevin Gates
Where you was at?
Bobby
Exactly.
Kevin Gates
I didn't even notice.
Bobby
That's okay.
Kevin Gates
Once I noticed you though, that's.
Bobby
Well, I was Just nervous. I was like, oh, maybe he doesn't like me. And then I kept.
Kevin Gates
Once I seen it was you. What up, little baby?
Bobby
And then you were worried that your mic was on the whole time.
Kevin Gates
I ain't get. No, you.
Bobby
You actually did. You said, oh, no, my mic was on the whole time. They heard everything.
Kevin Gates
Oh, no, cuz I was talking about. Yeah, the.
Bobby
No, no, no. But it's. It's not.
Kevin Gates
I was saying that I wasn't able to sit on a thing because of the Lumberton issue.
Bobby
Yeah, yeah, of course. No, I'm just saying I was. I was paying attention.
Kevin Gates
You know, we have to save the trees.
Bobby
Of course.
Kevin Gates
Like when he was like laughed earlier about the tree. It's. He's not right. He's. He's. We're not gonna do good in a classroom together.
Bobby
You too.
Kevin Gates
He's gonna get me in trouble.
Bobby
I see.
Kevin Gates
They're gonna be like, kevin, you shouldn't be laughing. And I'm gonna be like, I know, but I can't rant on my partner and be like, he's making me laugh, but he's fucking making me fucking. You're gonna get in big, big trouble, buddy. Oh, God. Hope you're gonna get in trouble.
Bobby
This man.
Kevin Gates
So I was afraid.
Bobby
I just met him today too. This is.
Kevin Gates
But like, that's how it be. Like I just met him and I was just. Got a super joking nature with him. Like I've been knowing him. That's how my energy is.
Bobby
You're comfortable around him.
Kevin Gates
It's just certain people like that. I know. Like, we would have gotten a lot of fucking trouble.
Bobby
Yeah. You don't feel like that was me?
Kevin Gates
No, I think you would have been overthinking shit.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Now, I could have encouraged you to get in trouble, but I think you would have been overthinking. Talking about Kevin, I don't think we should do this. And I'd have had to tell you, look, Bobby, it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Bobby
Got it.
Kevin Gates
So I had to coach you into doing fucked up shit. But it ain't really fucked up shit. We just having fun.
Bobby
Yeah. Like riding the conveyor belt.
Kevin Gates
It's fucking. Fucking boring. Smoring. Always telling us what we can't do. Who said we can't do it? Yeah, Kevin, Why do you always ask why? Because I just want to know why. Why? What's gonna happen if I do it? I'm gonna do it. No, my mama don't care what I do.
Bobby
She didn't say, kevin, why do you always ask why.
Kevin Gates
No teachers ask that. I'd be like, why? Why do you always ask why? Because I just want to know what's gonna happen if I do it. Who wrote the rule book? Who said that this is what's gonna happen if I do it. Then I'm gonna try it and see. Because nobody else ever did it before. So let me try it and see for myself what's gonna happen. I'm one of them type of people.
Bobby
The opposite of that. I'm the opposite of that.
Kevin Gates
I know you would have. Not now. Once I got in trouble, you probably would have been empathetic and like, kevin, it's okay.
Bobby
I would have helped you get out of trouble.
Kevin Gates
I'm not gonna be like, kevin, I can't believe you did that. And da, da, da. So you probably would have been that type of person. Person. But I'm gonna go for it, buddy. I'm going the distance.
Bobby
No, don't, don't.
Kevin Gates
I'm going for speed. Forgive me. Not sorry. You would have loved me, though. Everybody loved me so. You would have loved me.
Bobby
I believe that.
Kevin Gates
I know. If you would have been to school with me, you would have loved me. You would have been like, I love Kevin. He is like, I love him.
Bobby
That would have happened.
Kevin Gates
That's how you would have been.
Bobby
If we were in school. I would be in.
Kevin Gates
And then I was gonna protect you. Like, if somebody would've just tried to pick on you.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Oh, my God. Hey, look, Bobby gonna step out the fruit. I'm about to fuck him up.
Bobby
Oh, no.
Kevin Gates
Right fast. I don't like bullies. No, I don't like bullies. I hate bullies. Like people that pick on, like, the nerdy people. Cause them be the cool people. If you really think about it, like, I don't like people that pick on people. I don't like bullies. I hate bullies. God.
Bobby
Are you thinking of anybody in particular right now when you say nah?
Kevin Gates
No. It always be that one kid, though, that be cool. He be cool as a bitch. But people just pick on him. I just can't take it. I be trying not to get involved, but I just can't take it. I just encourage him. Hey, man, punch that dude in his shit, man. Don't let him keep telling you like that. No.
Bobby
God.
Kevin Gates
If we get in trouble or not. And then, like, if you try to do it while I'm right here talking to him, I just can't take it.
Bobby
Do you teach your kids to what? Fight back?
Kevin Gates
Fighting solves everything.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Bullies don't learn from you saying, hey, don't hit me again.
Bobby
Not if you're weak and you try to fight them up. Fight my kids. If they tried to fight their so scrawny and little, it don't matter.
Kevin Gates
The small. Hey, hey. It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog. Geronte Davis is little, but he beats people. The up. Yeah. Because he got hot.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Shakur Stevenson. He got hot.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
He got. Where they get there? They got hot. So size don't even matter.
Bobby
I have some questions. Do you know. I was with Suki. She said she's friends with you.
Kevin Gates
I love Suki. That's my partner.
Bobby
I was with her this morning.
Kevin Gates
Where y'all was at?
Bobby
We did Pilates.
Kevin Gates
I did Pilates. Working on my body. Yeah, I do Pilates.
Bobby
Do you. That's really.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, that one. So six.
Bobby
There's a lot.
Kevin Gates
It's flexibility and it's resistance. It's all core.
Bobby
Well, she actually was late and missed the whole Pilates class, but the idea was for her to play.
Kevin Gates
She. She intended to show up. So it's based on intention.
Bobby
Is that so?
Kevin Gates
Yeah.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Well, it's like if a person that's £500, if you walk in the gym and walk out, I'm gonna encourage you. Hey, you know what? At least you showed up. You showed up for yourself.
Bobby
Showed up and we got dang out after blood.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Even though you showed up late, you still showed up for.
Bobby
I'm gonna ask you the questions I asked her.
Kevin Gates
Go ahead, ask me anything.
Bobby
Really Anything?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, you ask me anything. You don't mean. I'm an asshole, but you asked me.
Bobby
These are just questions. Suki answered that I think you should answer, too.
Kevin Gates
I just burped. If you heard that little rumble.
Bobby
I didn't.
Kevin Gates
I don't say excuse me, because I believe that anything exiting the body is positive. If I burp, fart, cry, laugh, it's all positive. Why would I say excuse me for something that's normal? Oh, excuse. No, don't excuse me.
Bobby
Okay. If you had to be stuck in a room with one celebrity for 24 hours, who would it be and why?
Kevin Gates
I ain't even dicked out about nobody that's a celebrity right now. I like regular people, so. And dicked out, mean, like infatuated and just can't live without, you know, just. Yeah. I ain't dicked out by no celebrity to even be wanting to. I don't. Can't think of you. Like who's your celebrity curse? I ain't got one.
Bobby
Really. Do you want to know who Suki said?
Kevin Gates
Who?
Bobby
Jesus.
Kevin Gates
You don't even know. You don't even know Jesus. You won't be in a room with Jesus.
Bobby
That's what she wants to do. She wants to be in a room with Jesus.
Kevin Gates
Won't be in a room with. With me, cuz I walk on water and all that type of man.
Bobby
She should have just said, Kevin G.
Kevin Gates
I start car batteries with my bare hands. I heal a seat.
Bobby
I've heard you did that, man.
Kevin Gates
What in real life? Well, see, I don't even want to talk about that. Cuz people going to think, oh God. Yeah. You had to be there.
Bobby
Had to be there.
Kevin Gates
You had to be there to see it.
Bobby
We weren't. We weren't there. If. If you could describe me in one word, what would it be?
Kevin Gates
W. Wow. Yeah. Cause I with you. You with them.
Bobby
Thank you.
Kevin Gates
I could be around you. Your energy don't clash with my energy.
Bobby
Do you want to know what Suki said? What dork.
Kevin Gates
I wouldn't get. I wouldn't get you. You got an adventurous spirit. You got a curiosity about yourself where you want to know so you ain't just a lame all the way. And then sometimes, sometimes that's a beautiful thing. Because when you got people that have been overexposed, exposed, like a lot of traumas come with it. So when you got somebody that's green, when you green, you grow. You ripe, you rat. So I'd rather have something green, you know, a fresh, you know, fresh little chalkboard, A fresh. A blank canvas. We could paint a beautiful picture on that. So I don't know why people make it like that's a bad thing. It's a beautiful thing. A blank sheet of paper. We could turn into anything if it already got writing on it, kind of go back and erase. And.
Bobby
What'S something embarrassing that's happened to you recently?
Kevin Gates
What started my fitness journey, the most embarrassing moment. But I'm thankful that it happened. Cause it's what I needed to project me forward when I had my shirt off holding that baby. And that baby tried to suck my titty. I'll never forget that. And everybody, they was doing that right there, laughing at me and shit.
Bobby
That's normal, huh?
Kevin Gates
That's normal for a baby to suck a man titty.
Bobby
Not to try to try.
Kevin Gates
It wasn't normal for me. I had. I had. I was cheating, man. I'm so thankful that that moment happened.
Bobby
That's why? You started your journey.
Kevin Gates
Right fast.
Bobby
You're just holding your baby.
Kevin Gates
And when I use the word right fast. The term.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Right quick or right fast. It means as expeditiously as possible.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Right fast.
Bobby
Yeah. That was. That was enough of that for you.
Kevin Gates
I'll. With Lil Bobby. Me and Lil Bobby, we thugging.
Bobby
We're gonna go on a road trip.
Kevin Gates
Can't wait.
Bobby
Okay. If you could swap lives with one person for one day, who would it be? I feel like you're gonna. Can I. I think you're gonna say no one. Cuz I love being me.
Kevin Gates
But. Right.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
Like it's so boring being somebody else. You got.
Bobby
You don't know.
Kevin Gates
I do.
Bobby
You don't want to be me?
Kevin Gates
No.
Bobby
Why?
Kevin Gates
Because you can tell a man by the distance traveled. Don't let that go over your head.
Bobby
I'm trying to help it go and not.
Kevin Gates
I done lived every walk of life that you could live.
Bobby
You don't. For 24 hours. You don't want to be me for 24 hours. That's too much for you.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. It'll be too much because I need me right now. And I know what I stand for and I know. What.
Bobby
For 24 hours.
Kevin Gates
But.
Bobby
And then I get to be you for 24 hours.
Kevin Gates
I'm not going to be my authentic self. I'm not going to.
Bobby
It's 24 hours.
Kevin Gates
Hours. But I just can't do it. The thought of it is just.
Bobby
You're not even curious what it's like?
Kevin Gates
Not even 24 minutes. I wouldn't want to be you for 24 minutes because I wouldn't be operating out of my authenticity. So it's.
Bobby
You wouldn't want to be me for 24 minutes?
Kevin Gates
Not. No.
Bobby
You don't want to know what it's like. You don't want to know what it's like to be me.
Kevin Gates
No.
Bobby
No.
Kevin Gates
You could tell me all about it on the road trip.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
We can go to Napa.
Bobby
Napa. That's close.
Kevin Gates
This is five hours.
Bobby
That's. I was thinking a full cross country road trip together.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. You break it up in segments. You don't just. I'm gonna get in the car and drive for 23 hours.
Bobby
We're stopping in Napa. What's on the. What does. Where does that go to?
Kevin Gates
It goes to the grape vineyards. And I'm. That's like my bucket list right now. I want to drive up to Napa. My spirit has been calling me there.
Bobby
Let's go to Napa.
Kevin Gates
I want to go Drink wine. I want to do what the white people do. Oh, I'm going to drink some wine. When I get there, you might have to drive, because when they had. When I. Listen, I watched this shit on Real Housewives, I think, and they drove up there to nap, and they was eating a little cheese and a little. It looked like grape juice, but I'm sure about the track. That's correct. It is grape juice.
Bobby
It is.
Kevin Gates
Came from grapes, but.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
It's fermented grape juice. And I'm sure gonna take me a sip. I'm gonna be like this. I'm gonna do all that. I'm gonna get up there. Man, I seen them people do that. I'm about to go. I'm gonna ride that little train. They don't like the bus no more.
Bobby
You know more about Napa than I do, because I don't know what.
Kevin Gates
Everything I'm interested in. I research. Don't like the bus no more. I travel on the train. They got a little train where you can have you. I'm.
Bobby
I'm going to Napa.
Kevin Gates
I swear to God. I'm going.
Bobby
We're going. Don't say I am if it's a joint. We're going on a road trip.
Kevin Gates
When you want to go?
Bobby
When are you free?
Kevin Gates
You make time for the things. That's important.
Bobby
Okay. However.
Kevin Gates
You make time for the things.
Bobby
When do you want to go?
Kevin Gates
I work for me.
Bobby
Oh, okay. You just give me a date. Oh, it's not important. You're not making time for it.
Kevin Gates
You're just not serious. Bobby, I wish you were. I'd do it with you. But you're not.
Bobby
We're going to not.
Kevin Gates
Bobby, you're not serious.
Bobby
I'm so serious.
Kevin Gates
I know.
Bobby
Bobby, I. I swear on. On my sister's life. I told you.
Kevin Gates
Hey, if lightning strikes, it's not my fault. I love you. I do. If lightning strikes, it's not my fault.
Bobby
We're going to Napa.
Kevin Gates
Okay.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Speak it into existence.
Bobby
Just give me a date.
Kevin Gates
All right.
Bobby
I'm gonna think about.
Kevin Gates
I'm gonna think about.
Bobby
I'll clear my calendar.
Kevin Gates
You'll clear your calendar?
Bobby
Yeah. For our road trip.
Kevin Gates
For a little omi.
Bobby
Yep, we'll stop it. I don't think there's any Lululemons on the way to Napa, but yes, it is. It's like Fresno there. Do you think there's a Lululemon there?
Kevin Gates
Nah, they got. They got a Lululemon closer, though.
Bobby
Okay, what's the worst first date you've ever Been on.
Kevin Gates
The worst first date.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
It wasn't the worst. Cause I was with the woman of my dreams. But it was like the worst shit that ever could have happened. Happened. It is. Didn't really leave a good impression. But at the same time I wouldn't be beat if none of that shit did didn't happen.
Bobby
What happened? Another story you can't tell?
Kevin Gates
No, it ain't that. Like I. Like. Damn. I hate to say this. Like this. I be having stalkers sometime. Yeah, they be diplomatized and they start stalking all women. Yeah, they be stalkers. And I done been on a date having dinner and a stalker just popped up.
Bobby
And by stalker, do you mean like former girl you used to be with?
Kevin Gates
It's something I had. Did you know? I did a. Something. I did a little charity work. I blessed her soul. I did a little charity work.
Bobby
And she just so nice of you.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, you know, God loves a cheerful forgiver, so, you know.
Bobby
Yeah, I gotta do what you're doing.
Kevin Gates
I did a little charity work and she just lost her little mind. I mean. But I don't blame her. I don't blame her.
Bobby
So she came up to you on a first date?
Kevin Gates
No, she popped up on my. On. On. There was our first date and she popped up. And then I told her. I said I hate to. I hate that you had to witness it, you know, Security escort. I said I hate that you had to witness it. But I got about three or four more that do that same.
Bobby
Oh.
Kevin Gates
I don't know why God blessed me with this type of pressure. It just. It is what it is. It's disappointing in a sense.
Bobby
Is it? I don't think.
Kevin Gates
Yeah. Cuz I was trying to put my best foot forward.
Bobby
I feel like that made you look good, you know.
Kevin Gates
I mean, ain't nothing happened. And no. Ph. No. No. No physicalities was, you know, exhibited in that next. She. She left peacefully. Just the things that she was saying, like we.
Bobby
The. Your stalker said stuff like that.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I be having stalkers. And I had a few. Three or four, you know. But it was a beautiful first date though. I was with the woman that I. That I think the most beautiful woman in the universe, you know. So I was, you know. And then we went on a few more dates after that, so.
Bobby
See, I told you she wasn't even mine.
Kevin Gates
I don't know, it just is. I know I'm a lot to deal with though. I ain't gonna lie. I know I'm allowed to do.
Bobby
Where do you take women on first dates?
Kevin Gates
She. Wherever our energy go. We might go to Chick Fil a the first day. We might go to. We might go sit by the water one day. We might go to Soho House, you know, whatever the vibe is. Yeah, we might go hiking. Like, a lot of my first dates be hiking. Cause if you give up on yourself.
Bobby
First date.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, let's go hiking. Cause if you give up on yourself.
Bobby
You don't like her, you're stuck on a whole hike with her.
Kevin Gates
I ain't stuck on no hike.
Bobby
You turn around and run.
Kevin Gates
She might not be able to continue the hike. So the hike over, she gave us on her side.
Bobby
She's still going, though.
Kevin Gates
No, no.
Bobby
In this scenario, she's still going.
Kevin Gates
It say a lot about a person.
Bobby
She'll keep up with you. You hate her. You hate everything about her.
Kevin Gates
I'm not gonna hate her.
Bobby
You do.
Kevin Gates
I'm not.
Bobby
It's your first date. You don't know.
Kevin Gates
You're about to hate her.
Bobby
Yeah, hold on.
Kevin Gates
We meet up and go hiking.
Bobby
You've met a girl on Instagram. She. You take her on a hike and we go hiking, and you are halfway through, and she's obsessed with you.
Kevin Gates
Obsessed.
Bobby
You hate her.
Kevin Gates
No, I don't hate that.
Bobby
In this scenario, you hate her.
Kevin Gates
She bad, crazy. She's about me.
Bobby
Yes. So she's keeping up.
Kevin Gates
That's a little blessing, right, dog? That's a little blessing.
Bobby
You're like, get away from me.
Kevin Gates
If she keeping up with me. This I'm her motivation because I'm a big motivator. But.
Bobby
Okay, so you.
Kevin Gates
The couple that prays together stays together.
Bobby
You don't like her.
Kevin Gates
The couple that works out exactly in real life. Oh, catfish. Yeah, I'm gonna let her know. Baby, let me tell you something. Like, I gotta be around things that's aesthetically pleasing. And you lied. You just. Everything was a lie. So I know our whole relationship is gonna be based on a lie, but.
Bobby
Now you're stuck on a whole hike with her. She won't leave you. You're at the top of the hill. You have to go all the way down.
Kevin Gates
We ain't at the top because if she not what I like, we not even gonna take a step in up the hill.
Bobby
She had a mask on. She took it off at the end.
Kevin Gates
What kind of mask she.
Bobby
A Covid mask.
Kevin Gates
Oh, no. I'm gonna see through that.
Bobby
No, you don't. Everything. She's so pretty from here and here. She's so uncomfortable.
Kevin Gates
What's wrong with her mouth?
Bobby
She's got teeth up they're so bad.
Kevin Gates
I got a dentist will fix that.
Bobby
They're not fixable.
Kevin Gates
It's gonna be fixable. I got Kevin Sands. He gonna fix that.
Bobby
She's got lip botched lip filler.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I got somebody to fix that.
Bobby
No, it's irreversible.
Kevin Gates
No, build a bell. Build a. I'm him. We fix all that.
Bobby
So you're gonna.
Kevin Gates
You're gonna stay with me. We're gonna put a body kit on it. On a. On a Nissan. We gonna put a Bentley kit on the Honda. I got you, baby. Okay, let's do it.
Bobby
Okay. I guess that's the perfect first date for you.
Kevin Gates
Nah, but I'm just saying, that's gonna psych me up. But I'm gonna tell a lot about a person if she give up on herself.
Bobby
Yeah, I know.
Kevin Gates
She gonna give up on us.
Bobby
I don't think that's fair.
Kevin Gates
I deal with. I come with a lot, baby.
Bobby
I don't think that's fair.
Kevin Gates
Well, it's not fair.
Bobby
She gives up on the hike. So you're like.
Kevin Gates
If I'm like, yeah, baby, let's go hiking. Oh, I love going hiking. We about to see how much you love going hiking.
Bobby
Okay. It's a mile each way. And at the mile, she gives up. And you're gonna say.
Kevin Gates
I'm gonna say, come on, baby, you can do it.
Bobby
She's gonna say, no, I have asthma and I'm dying.
Kevin Gates
Okay, we'll go back to it.
Bobby
That doesn't you.
Kevin Gates
I'm gonna politely tell her, come on, take you back.
Bobby
She stopped breathing.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, I'm gonna take you back.
Bobby
She's dying.
Kevin Gates
But if my mouth up. I ain't about to. When the first responders come. When the first responders come out there. Oh, come on, man. I could have saved her. But look at that. Y'all wanted me to put my mouth on this. You know. You know what they gonna tell me. The fireman gonna tell me what. I feel you, brother.
Bobby
Is that what they. They're gonna put the little derailed.
Kevin Gates
You're a better man than me, brother.
Bobby
Well. Cause you waited.
Kevin Gates
Look at that shit, man. Yeah, I don't know how to do CPR with that. She got bush cutters in her mouth, man. I can't get no head from no like that. She might come back in three pieces, man. What the.
Bobby
So maybe rethink going on a hike.
Kevin Gates
It's not aesthetically pleasing, though.
Bobby
Rethink going on a hike for.
Kevin Gates
I ain't gotta rethink nothing.
Bobby
You do. No, it's a bad idea.
Kevin Gates
That was the tip.
Bobby
That could happen, the test. You left her dead at the top because she.
Kevin Gates
You just making a false scenario. Because I'm not. That could happen up the hill with nobody that looked like you didn't know.
Bobby
You didn't know at the bottom of the hill.
Kevin Gates
I'm not going up the hill with nothing that look like king of the hill. Bobby.
Bobby
Okay?
Kevin Gates
Bobby.
Bobby
At least you've thought of about everything.
Kevin Gates
I'm just real metaphoric in the way he be like, Bobby. That's what I'm going to be saying. Bobby, get your friend, okay?
Bobby
At the top of the hill. She's beautiful.
Kevin Gates
We don't go into the.
Bobby
Listen, she's beautiful. She's beautiful. Everything is amazing. At the top of the hill, she takes her shirt off and she has four boobs.
Kevin Gates
That's. That's. Hey, she got a. She got an espresso machine. She got vanilla chocolate, Neapolitan. And what's the other flavor? She is strawberry. She got four different flavors up there. A dispenser, dispensary.
Bobby
Nothing. Yeah, nothing can turn you away.
Kevin Gates
Hey, Stifler, I just met this girl and she's got four boobs, man.
Bobby
Four.
Kevin Gates
Four boobs.
Bobby
I love when you look at him and just tell him about.
Kevin Gates
That's my guy. That's my fucking guy. We've been knowing each other, oh, for about an hour. A good 30 minutes. That's my fucking guy. I knew it when I walked in. It's my gang.
Bobby
I love that for you. I love that you're. I love that for you. I'm gonna. I am gonna start saying that.
Kevin Gates
I'm telling you.
Bobby
I already say that. That's my voice.
Kevin Gates
If you. No, you don't talk like that.
Bobby
I don't. Everyone's a different.
Kevin Gates
Not like her, okay? She is like. If you was around her without me, you would be annoyed by her.
Bobby
Oh.
Kevin Gates
Cause like if somebody says she'd be like, all righty. But you'll be annoyed. But if I'm there, it make it funny.
Bobby
Okay?
Kevin Gates
I was the first one to make people just start laughing at her.
Bobby
It's like. It's like a. Feels a little sad.
Kevin Gates
Beautiful. Because it's like. Yeah, she came out of her shell and everybody else started accepting her and looking at her with a different perspective. But she really makes sense with a lot of the shit. She just nonchalant like you. And I like witty comedy. Like, so it's witty to be.
Bobby
Yes. No, you. Walker. I love that for me.
Kevin Gates
I love that for Me. And then like one time I was about to wreck my truck.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
Like I was going fast and it kind of spent out a little bit. I said oh my God, I was so scared. I hate that for me. And it just took, it takes away the tension. Like when you had the ability to laugh at yourself, it take away the tension in the room. Because when you first walk in a room full of new people, you like, uptight. I gotta put my best.
Bobby
I don't feel like you were acting like that when you first talked.
Kevin Gates
Cause I don't get no kind of about nothing. Yeah, I give no. Once I read that book, the Subtle art of not Giving a Fuck. I give no because anything, all you can do is all you can do.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
And anything that's out of my control is out of my control. So it's not. I tell people it's not that I don't give a. I just could give a fuck less. I could give a fuck less. Like the subtle art of not giving a fuck. And a lot of times we put bearing on things that's out of our control.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
I'm not a control freak.
Bobby
When you first walked in, you seemed like you were kind of shy and quiet. But that's not the case at all.
Kevin Gates
No, I think probably had to.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
I had to. So once I get that first one out.
Bobby
Yep. You stayed pretty quiet until we sat down.
Kevin Gates
I'm good to go. Well, no, we wasn't talking about nothing.
Bobby
I. I know, I'm just saying you gave off.
Kevin Gates
You have to engage me now. Once the, once we start talking, that's like if we're in public.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
I don't do too much talking. I'm like observing cuz I know what to look for. Like if me and you together, I'm going to know what to watch for. Hey, come on, Bobby. Look, let me show you something. If we got a driver, make sure you get in on my side. Cause if you on the other side, I can't protect you. Get in and get out on my side. I got you. Cause if you with me, then you under my order of protection. But if we in the car together, then let me open the door for you. I'm going to get out and make sure. I'm going to do a perimeter scan, then I'm going to open the door. Come on. It's safe. We clear for departure? Let's take off. So I'm not going to be talkative, I'm going to be observant.
Bobby
Yeah.
Kevin Gates
I'm gonna be observative. New or observative?
Bobby
You need a Kevin Gates dictionary that you.
Kevin Gates
Yes, Lord.
Bobby
We'll start that at the end of this.
Kevin Gates
We need to.
Bobby
Do you have any final words before everyone goes to sleep tonight?
Kevin Gates
Yeah. What? Camera. I'm living at a little bit of.
Bobby
All of them, but mostly your best friends.
Kevin Gates
This one or this one?
Bobby
Your best friend.
Kevin Gates

Bobby
Oh, should I do mine now?
Kevin Gates
Yeah, let me see.
Bobby
Okay. Hi, guys. You just watched an interview with me and Kevin Gates. He thinks that I was kidding about our road trip, but I'm serious. I don't think he's serious, to be honest. I think that's. I think that's, like, happening. He wants to just say you're not serious. Because he doesn't actually want to go. And he's hoping I'm not serious. But if he is serious, I'm serious. And we're gonna go to Napa and drink wine. And he's probably gonna get really drunk. Cause he hasn't had wine in a long time. But it was fun being here with him. I don't feel like I can talk freely about him because he's right here.
Kevin Gates
But I know what you're gonna say.
Bobby
What was I gonna say?
Kevin Gates
He smelled so fucking good. Like, he smelled amazing.
Bobby
That's exactly what I was.
Kevin Gates
He smells amazing.
Bobby
Like, I can't. I haven't. I haven't breathed you in enough to realize that yet.
Kevin Gates
Everybody in the room smelled me. Your nose stopped, though. Forgive me. That's right.
Bobby
What are you wearing?
Kevin Gates
It's a long story.
Bobby
Let's hear the story really quickly.
Kevin Gates
Nah, it's a long. It's a long story.
Bobby
How. How long could that story be?
Kevin Gates
This shit didn't been cultivated over the.
Bobby
Ages, so you're wearing many things right now.
Kevin Gates
I'm a mixologist.
Bobby
You are?
Kevin Gates
Yep.
Bobby
Okay.
Kevin Gates
How Mix it. Batch. Tit for tat, this and that.
Bobby
What's in it?
Kevin Gates
You know a lot of. Listen, it's a long story, okay? You might as well just go do your conclusion. Cause it's a long story. This shit. Real sacred going on with me.
Bobby
Okay. On our Road trip. You can tell me all of the things in your cologne.
Kevin Gates
Yeah, we don't see.
Bobby
See what?
Kevin Gates
If you really serious.
Bobby
You're not serious.
Kevin Gates
Who you. You can't reverse this on me no more.
Bobby
I'm reversing it on you because I asked for a date. You wouldn't give me a date.
Kevin Gates
I don't have a date at the moment.
Bobby
Okay, well, when you show your serious. Well, when you show your serious, I will believe you.
Kevin Gates
Okay.
Bobby
For now.
Kevin Gates
What does Bruno Mars say? Don't believe me. Just watch.
Bobby
Okay, I'll just watch.
Kevin Gates
Oh, you got excited. That'll smile. I fuck with you.
Bobby
Thank you. Wise words of Kevin Gates, everyone. He's got lots of them.
Kevin Gates
Yes, Lord.
Bobby
Everyone in this room has learned so much from you today.
Kevin Gates
I mean, that big old teacher.
Bobby
You always finish it with something unexpected. Are you?
Kevin Gates
I'm done.
Bobby
Let's see.
Kevin Gates

Podcast: The Really Good Podcast with Bobbi Althoff
Host: Bobbi Althoff
Guest: Kevin Gates
Release Date: March 17, 2025
In this engaging episode of The Really Good Podcast, host Bobbi Althoff sits down with Kevin Gates, a multifaceted individual who delves into his personal life, relationships, wellness routines, and entrepreneurial ventures. The conversation is candid, filled with humor, introspection, and insightful revelations about Kevin's journey toward self-improvement and healing.
Kevin Gates opens up about his complicated relationship with his mother, revealing that they were once estranged due to her having him at a young age. He emphasizes the importance of healing and rebuilding their bond:
"It's part of me healing. I'm being a bigger person." ([02:54]-[03:02])
Despite the challenges, Kevin highlights the significance of honoring commitments and fostering a healthier relationship with his mother.
Kevin discusses his supportive stance on his mother's dating choices, not only for her happiness but also as a means to heal his own relationship with her:
"It's not for me. It's not for her. It's for me. Like, part of my healing journey." ([02:50]-[02:54])
He underscores the therapeutic aspect of supporting his mother's happiness, illustrating his commitment to personal growth.
A significant portion of the conversation revolves around Kevin's love for coffee. He details his daily coffee intake, preference for organic honey, and his humorous stint with AA meetings to curb his coffee consumption:
"Coffee spelled backwards. It's E. Fuck. And before I have my coffee, I don't give E fuck about anything." ([09:05]-[09:17])
Kevin's enthusiasm for coffee is both entertaining and revealing of his larger-than-life persona.
Kevin shares his passion for yoga and fitness, describing them as essential components of his wellness routine and personal therapy:
"Yoga is so relative to life. Because we always put out, we always face with discomfort. But through breathing and things of that nature, we find comfort in that discomfort." ([12:02]-[14:29])
He emphasizes the transformative power of yoga in finding balance and peace amidst life's chaos.
Kevin narrates his shift from a troubled past, including time spent in juvenile detention, to becoming an entrepreneur. He discusses his ventures, including a coffee business and a construction company:
"I never thought I would eat raw oysters, but I love raw oysters. I never say never." ([22:35]-[22:44])
This transition showcases his resilience and ability to turn negative experiences into positive outcomes.
Kevin introduces his coffee brand, Breadwinner Alumni, highlighting it as a symbol of his personal transformation:
"I took a negative and turned it to a positive." ([97:14]-[98:03])
He humorously likens his coffee packaging to drug bricks, tying back to his past and rebranding it into something wholesome.
Kevin candidly discusses his multiple stints in juvenile detention starting at age 13. He credits his time there for fostering personal growth through programs like yoga:
"Yoga is so relative to life... we find comfort in that discomfort." ([14:29]-[17:00])
This period was instrumental in shaping his disciplined and introspective nature.
Kevin reflects on overcoming significant life challenges, including societal perceptions and personal struggles, to emerge as a resilient individual:
"Tough situations make us tough." ([78:00]-[78:08])
He emphasizes the importance of facing discomfort head-on to achieve personal excellence.
Kevin shares his unique perspective on relationships, prioritizing self-completion over seeking someone to complete him:
"I'm not looking for somebody to complete me. I'm going to complete myself and share my completeness with a complete person." ([103:06]-[103:28])
He advocates for authenticity and mutual growth within relationships.
Being a father of five, Kevin discusses his approach to parenting, emphasizing the importance of maturity and responsibility:
"I promote maturity, not adolescence." ([46:33]-[46:38])
He takes pride in his children's achievements and strives to be a positive influence in their lives.
A recurring theme is the significance of living authentically and practicing self-love. Kevin believes that authenticity is the highest frequency one can operate from:
"Operating out of authenticity... is the highest frequency." ([13:30]-[14:29])
He stresses that being true to oneself is essential for personal happiness and effective influence on others.
Kevin shares his strategies for overcoming fear, such as maintaining a calm demeanor and practicing regular breathing techniques:
"Me, I breathe and I feel good." ([09:40]-[10:03])
He advocates for confronting discomfort through positive actions like yoga and fitness to transform adversity into growth.
On Healing and Transparency:
"The world get to watch me heal, and I'm completely transparent and I'm completely vulnerable because it takes more courage to be vulnerable than to walk around being tough all the time." ([03:07]-[03:17])
On Resilience:
"Tough situations make us tough." ([78:00]-[78:08])
On Authenticity:
"Authenticity is the highest frequency because it shows that you love yourself. That's the greatest act of self-love." ([13:30]-[14:29])
On Personal Growth:
"I'm not looking for somebody to complete me. I'm going to complete myself and share my completeness with a complete person." ([103:06]-[103:28])
On Overcoming Adversity:
"Yoga is so relative to life. Because we always put out, we always face with discomfort. But through breathing and things of that nature, we find comfort in that discomfort." ([12:02]-[14:29])
Throughout this episode, Kevin Gates offers a deep and unfiltered look into his life, sharing his journey from adversity to self-improvement.
