Commercial Announcer
I had what's called a rebirth.
Oliver Tree
I died and I woke up the next day and I realized I was still alive. Music became my savior, my healing, my religion and gave me a second chance to take my addiction and become addicted to something that could actually save me and help other people. In that process. Don't let anyone treat you wrong and definitely don't let anyone stop you from chasing your dreams. Life is short and your energy is precious. Hi, I'm Elmo. I heard y' all was your favorite.
Interviewer
I'm here with Oliver Tree Chick.
Oliver Tree
1 2.
Interviewer
I'm taking this off.
Oliver Tree
I think we could have a good time.
Interviewer
How old are you?
Oliver Tree
September 22nd I will be 39 years old.
Interviewer
I've never met a 39 year old.
Oliver Tree
I know. I wanted to say 40 but got another year and three months.
Interviewer
You're almost there.
Oliver Tree
I know. How old are you?
Interviewer
I'm 28.
Oliver Tree
That's insane.
Interviewer
Why?
Oliver Tree
Because you've Achieved so much in such short time.
Interviewer
Wow. That's such a compliment.
Oliver Tree
It is.
Interviewer
Thank you. What is?
Oliver Tree
Your haircut. My haircut?
Interviewer
Yeah.
Oliver Tree
You want to see?
Interviewer
Yeah. Why not? Take the Elmo hat off. Is it your real hair?
Oliver Tree
Yeah. Actually, I can't take this thing on because there's so many baby pins.
Interviewer
Oh, my God. Why? Where did you get that?
Oliver Tree
We got it at Costco.
Interviewer
Swear?
Oliver Tree
Yeah. They had. I think it was two for one, so I got a few of them. It was like, four for 70 bucks or something.
Interviewer
Elmo costumes?
Oliver Tree
Yeah.
Interviewer
Do you ever tell the truth?
Oliver Tree
Of course. What do you want to know? I'm an open book.
Interviewer
We'll start by just not lying anymore.
Oliver Tree
100%.
Interviewer
Where'd you get that outfit?
Oliver Tree
Costco.
Interviewer
You did not get that at Costco.
Oliver Tree
Yes, I did.
Interviewer
Okay, I'm gonna look up Costco.
Oliver Tree
$35 for two for one. So two times four. Do the math. $70. I was like, $70 and some change, but, yeah, there's taxes. Which Costco are you looking up?
Interviewer
I'm just looking up Costco. Elmo costume. Okay. They don't have them.
Oliver Tree
Well, they probably sold out. I bought them.
Interviewer
You're just a liar.
Oliver Tree
I'm just trying to connect right now.
Interviewer
I'm serious.
Advertisement Voice
Yeah.
Oliver Tree
What do you want to know?
Interviewer
I need a lie detector test.
Oliver Tree
That would be super dope. You have a guy here. Where is he?
Interviewer
I. I'm gonna find one.
Oliver Tree
I would love that. Can we do another one?
Interviewer
You could just say you're wrong.
Oliver Tree
Let's do a different interview. We'll scrap this all. We don't need any of this fucking. This was the biggest waste of both our times. I. I know it might be hard to believe. I have a lot going on right now. I know. You're doing a Mormon reality TV show. Yeah, I'm the number one album in Mexico, so.
Interviewer
Mexico?
Oliver Tree
Only Mexico? Yeah. It didn't really translate in the States.
Interviewer
Spanish.
Oliver Tree
No, but I'm doing some bilingual stuff. I'm making a bilingual Spanish.
Interviewer
Do you sing your songs in Spanish?
Oliver Tree
Yeah.
Interviewer
When you're in Mexico, you perform them in Spanish?
Oliver Tree
Well, I speak only in Spanish during the concerts, and then I will do some bilingual songs, but mostly I like to speak only.
Interviewer
So you're fluen. See,
Oliver Tree
what is going on here?
Interviewer
Is this Spanish real quick? No, like, keep talking. No talking.
Oliver Tree
Mikasa, in Mexico.
Interviewer
Stop doing elementary Spanish.
Oliver Tree
And just, like, I can't. I just don't want to because there's no Mexican fans watching this right now. I speak Spanish.
Interviewer
Mexican.
Oliver Tree
Okay.
Interviewer
So I'm your half. I'm your. I'm half your.
Oliver Tree
Wait, are you actually Spanish?
Interviewer
Half Mexican.
Oliver Tree
Really?
Interviewer
Yeah. Have you been to Mexico? Yes.
Oliver Tree
So you like Mexico as much as me? Yeah, I love it.
Interviewer
What's your favorite thing of all? Life.
Oliver Tree
La life. Oh, life. Okay. Actually energy exchange, energy rituals. Connecting human to human. Eye contact. I do so much of it.
Interviewer
Do you want to tell me about
Oliver Tree
what happened with your last album with the label?
Interviewer
Yeah.
Oliver Tree
Yeah, it was pretty messy. So I was with a label called Atlantic and they basically, you know what?
Interviewer
Heard of them.
Oliver Tree
Yeah. So that's a dog shit label. Edit that out.
Interviewer
Nothing's getting edited. Continue.
Oliver Tree
So they used to be a much better label. I mean, I was always in a really bad record contract, but it was a lot of startup capital. They've invested a lot of money into my art. So I'm very grateful. I made a lot of music videos. I've spent million dollars on a music video. So I'm grateful for them for that. But what happened was they fired everyone in the company. The CEO, the cfo, marketing managers, all the people that I worked with. And if they didn't leave through being forced, they left on their own accord. So basically the whole office got cleaned house and then they just hired a bunch of random people who didn't give a shit. And I've made them tens of millions of dollars and they didn't bother to remember that. So when this album came around, they're like, well, we don't want to spend money on music videos. And I'm a music video artist, which was a bit confusing. And they're like, but we're going to spend all the money to market the videos. So we're going to get you really good budgets so that people can still see it. But the videos aren't worth spending the money on. And I was like, okay, I'm a director. I actually directed a Million Dollar bank commercial last year. So I do commercial work as well. I'm like, a big part of my skill set is doing videos, doing film, and couldn't do any of it this time around. But anyways, the main story is. Excuse me, moral of the story is, fuck Atlantic Records. We can't put that in.
Interviewer
You cannot cut anything.
Oliver Tree
Well, anyways, it was rough because I. They still will basically get paid for this. But I got to release the music. I got to release it through my independent Alien Boy Records record label. But because they paid for the music, there was two options. It was either music doesn't come out or that they can still basically get the residuals, but we can't put that in there either. Seriously, don't do me dirty like that.
Interviewer
I'm sorry, Oliver. We can't make cuts. This is filmed live.
Oliver Tree
Is all this gonna be used? I'm still so confused. I feel like we just started. Well, I eat a lot of crazy foods.
Interviewer
What do you mean by crazy?
Oliver Tree
Like iguanas. I had a blue whale. I didn't know that.
Interviewer
Is that legal to eat a blue whale?
Oliver Tree
They're allowed to basically kill two of them a year or something like this. And I didn't know this. I didn't know it was endangered till after I ate it. But I basically have eaten everything from like. Okay, I'm not actually supposed to talk about all the things, but let's say when I was in Chongqing in China, I bought on this street corner. It was a pig nose that was uncooked. Pig intestines uncooked. Chicken feet uncooked. I was eating them. The bones were breaking in my mouth. Like, that one was brutal because there was no seasoning or no temperature. But I've had a few things. I had this thing called HP Pylora, and it's like a illness you get from eating food that has human feces in it. And it was really fucking brutal. Yeah. So I ate. It ate some kind of food. I believe it was somewhere in. Actually, I don't want to say, because I don't want to make anyone look bad, but basically, I ate this certain type of food, and during a trip, I don't know what meal it was, but when I came back, I damaged my foot super bad. And I was in Japan. I was taking. My dad gave me this pills for. It was like, ibuprofen from the doctor that was like the 10,000 milligram, whatever. Let's say a thousand milligrams. Some crazy number. You have to get it prescribed. So I took it. And what happened was the HP Pylora created ulcers in my stomach mixed with the ibuprofen. And then I was on an airplane, about to go on a tour, and I started projectile vomiting, blood all on the side of the airplane. It started out in the toilet before. So I was, like, pooing and throwing up, like, liquid black. And then it got all on the wall of the airplane. And they're taxiing the plane and. And they had to turn the taxi around. They said, there's an ambulance waiting for you if you want to get in. And I was like, I have to go to the show. So they said if you get a doctor's note, you can take a flight tomorrow. And I played the show.

I didn't mean to gross you out.
Interviewer
Oh, well, it's okay.
Oliver Tree
I honestly am trying to be just chilling. Yeah, I honestly never do interviews with girls.
Interviewer
I saw you did one with Andrew Santino.
Oliver Tree
He's the best.
Interviewer
You like Bobby Lee there too?
Oliver Tree
Oh, I hate Bobby Lee. No, he's not. He wasn't allowed to be there. What?
Interviewer
Why do you hate him?
Oliver Tree
Well, we had a falling out.
Interviewer
You actually.
Oliver Tree
Yeah. I mean, I fought him like four different times. If you did any research at all, you would see that there's footage of me whooping his ass time after time. Bobby, if you're watching this, I'm not done yet.
Interviewer
Whooping his ass?
Oliver Tree
Yeah.
Interviewer
Why?
Oliver Tree
Because he's a little clown. He's a jester. He's gesture maxing Von Duke siblings. I have one brother. He lives in China. He's a legend. But yeah, I don't get to see him a whole lot, but he married a woman who lives in China as well.
Interviewer
And are you guys close?
Oliver Tree
I would say so, yeah. I would consider him a best friend, but we only Talk through Instagram. DMs pretty trippy. Yeah. Yeah, he doesn't have like A phone
Interviewer
number he doesn't like. What's up?
Oliver Tree
They don't use WhatsApp. They use WeChat in China. But I don't know. I couldn't get back into my account. So we just do it on Instagram. But it's challenging to do FaceTime calls through Instagram. It, like, never works. I'm not sure if it's like a VPN issue or what. Actually, he. He doesn't use Instagram. I think it's illegal there. We got to cut that out. I don't know if you've seen footage of me. I used to be pretty fat.
Interviewer
I saw.
Oliver Tree
Yeah. So what happened during that time?
Interviewer
Ozempic?
Oliver Tree
No, I don't believe in Ozempic. Actually. I'd love to address the rumors. So I do fasting. I like to fast.
Interviewer
It's kind of like Ozempic. Well, it just forces you to.
Oliver Tree
There's a big difference. So when you fast, basically our bodies and take everything I say with a grain of salt, because I'm not. I'm not a certified physician, although I do some work in the medical field, but it's mostly on the embedd. Is that funny?
Interviewer
Go ahead.
Oliver Tree
Is that funny?
Interviewer
Just speak.
Oliver Tree
So anyways, fasting is really important thing to do at least once a year. Because what happens is when our body is processing things, let's say anything from eating food, taking in anything at all, even vitamins, our body has to work really hard to process. And every time we're working and using our organs to work, it actually kills us a little bit. So what happens when you fast is it's the only time where all your internal organs are able to just focus on working on themselves instead of processing. So it's actually very different than Ozempic is horrible. I would not advise anyone to do that. I don't fuck with it. I think it's very gross. I don't do plastic surgery. I don't do.
Interviewer
Anybody accuse you of doing well, yeah,
Oliver Tree
people thought I did the nose augmentation because my nose is so big that I thought I did the. Basically, it's a surgery that makes it two, three times as big.
Interviewer
They thought your nose isn't even big.
Oliver Tree
It's pretty big.
Interviewer
No, it's not. Yeah, it's like pretty normal size.
Oliver Tree
That's honestly the nicest thing you've said this whole time.
Interviewer
It's great.
Oliver Tree
I love the compliments. This is fun. Do you shower twice a day?
Interviewer
Fast, Fast.
Oliver Tree
It all depends. I go on waves, so I'm an addict, so I Love. Just overabundance over consumption.
Interviewer
So you just always fast?
Oliver Tree
No, like, I'm all or nothing. So it's either, like, I'm smoking, like a thousand cigarettes a day or I'm just not smoking for a year at a time.
Interviewer
I mean, when you fast, how long is it?
Oliver Tree
The most I've gone is four days, but typically a day, two days, something like that. Maybe three.
Interviewer
And you don't have water or anything?
Oliver Tree
No, I drink water and coffee.
Interviewer
Coffee? Yeah. That's not. Your body's not relaxing if you're drinking coffee.
Oliver Tree
I know. I'm telling people how to do it. I'm not saying I'm doing it.
Interviewer
Well.
Oliver Tree
I have to make it enjoyable. I have nothing left, you know, I don't have access to my family. I don't live in a house. Oh. Do you notice? I don't live anywhere right now. I'm based in Mexico City, living with my friend Aaron and his family.
Interviewer
How kind of them? Do they like you living there?
Oliver Tree
When I'm there, I'm very respectful. And plus, culturally, it's very different.
Interviewer
Can you call?
Oliver Tree
I can. I can try. I don't have my phone. Can you pass it to me?
Interviewer
Let's call the mom that you live with and see how clean you are.
Oliver Tree
Well, she doesn't speak English, but we can try to get her on. I'll see if my boy picks up.
Interviewer
I don't speak Spanish, so this isn't gonna work.
Oliver Tree
Well, he speaks English, so if he answers. But I think he's going to do a fitting right now for a TV show he's doing.
Interviewer
Let's see if he answers famous or something.
Oliver Tree
Yeah, he's the number one boxer in all of Mexico right now.
Interviewer
You live with him?
Oliver Tree
Yeah. Aaron Mercury is my best friend. This is going to be so embarrassing if he doesn't pick up. Yo, you good, bro? No, no, I'm great. You look amazing. Can I introduce you to someone? Yeah, introduce me. I want to introduce you to my girlfriend.
Interviewer
Okay. Shut up. Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm not.
Oliver Tree
You're going to marry?
Interviewer
No.
Oliver Tree
Oh, for sure. No, for sure. So she wanted to ask about. Wait. Sorry. I didn't mean to cut you off. What'd you say? You should marry. I know. We're gonna do it for sure. Oh, she doesn't believe me that I live with you guys. Can you tell her? Yeah. Here. Say it again. You leave my bed dress? Why you dress like Elmo,
Commercial Announcer
bro.
Oliver Tree
I have no idea what I'm doing. I lost the plot so long ago Is your mom there? Can we have her just speak in Spanish to say. To tell her that I live there?
Interviewer
No, that you. She likes you living.
Oliver Tree
Oh, ask her if she likes me living there. And there's Grandma. Say hi to Grandma. She films the Tick Tocks. Grandma films our Tick Tocks. Hola. Como estas? Happy family? I love you guys. I love them. Tell them I send my love. I miss you, brother. I'm gonna be back soon after this interview. I'm flying back, bro. Yeah, we all miss you. I miss you guys. She just changed the locks. No, don't, bro. Don't do this to me. Please don't do this to me. But for real, hey, tell them. Tell everyone I send my love. Say. Say hi to Frederico for me. This guy is the man. He's the number one boxer in Mexico. All right, I gotta go, bro, but we'll talk soon. Hey, make sure you cross post on the Tick Tock, which is gracias. That's my best friend right there. We've been friends for a while. We. I started training him, so I worked on his fight.
Interviewer
You are not a trainer.
Oliver Tree
Yes, I am.
Interviewer
All of her.
Oliver Tree
What? I advise people to fast all the time.
Interviewer
That does not make you a trainer.
Oliver Tree
I give unsolicited medical advice.
Interviewer
I can.
Oliver Tree
I believe, and I advise against surgeries.
Interviewer
What did his. What does his family think of you?
Oliver Tree
They fucking love me. His mom cried when I was leaving. For real. They're there to help. Like, the grandma will come in just to work and film Tik Toks. It is so funny because she's, like, trying to film and it's too complicated and we have to make it simpler for grandma, but. Have you ever had a grandma film your tiktoks?
Interviewer
I have not.
Oliver Tree
It's epic. It's like a real family experience, you know, because I was in Mexico City last week, like, just with the biggest influencers. The actors, the musicians, like the superstar, blah, blah, blah. There's nothing better than being with the family, being in the casa, being in the actual real life world. So it's beautiful, but I feel like more at home there than I do in America.
Interviewer
What about your house with your parents?
Oliver Tree
Oh, yeah.
Interviewer
Have they met?
Oliver Tree
They haven't met yet, no. But they'll be coming soon because I'm playing a show in Mexico City. I'm actually doing the world tour. It starts in the end of May, So basically, yeah, my family will fly out for that because Mexico is a big deal. Actually, this is my 27th trip to Mexico. My parents used to manage a house there. And I would go every year growing up, and there was, like, on the beach, and it was like, I would have to go paint it because the hurricanes would destroy it. So I was always working from a very young age in Mexico. I went to the school when I was a kid in the scuela, and all the kids were eating candies in the recess and in class, too, but in recess, they would buy all the candies. Everyone's mouth just blew. It was fucking beautiful.
Interviewer
What made you get into music?
Oliver Tree
I actually never knew music could be a job. So what happened was my parents made an agreement. No new cars, nothing fancy. They just said, we're going to get instruments. We're going to get art in our house. And when I grew up, that was the language I was taught. You know, I learned English, espanol, and music. Those are the only three languages I speak.
Interviewer
Are your parents musicians?
Oliver Tree
They're bilingual, but they are. Oh, crazy story. So my parents met in a flute class, and the flute class was canceled, so there actually wasn't enough people in the class to do it. And my dad was playing on the piano, and he was playing the song Roxanne, and. And this was when he was the first year of college. So it was like a. What is it? What do they call the colleges that aren't like, the legit ones?
Interviewer
Community college.
Oliver Tree
Yeah, it's like a community college. I mean, it's legit, but I'm saying it's like, not like a. They were just at the first year of community college in Los Gatos, Saratoga area. And my mom came in, and my dad was playing Roxanne. He had a rat tail. And she was like, who is this guy? And then basically, there wasn't enough people to do the flute class, so they would go up in the trees and they would play flute, and people would be looking around like, where's the music coming from?
Commercial Announcer
And.
Oliver Tree
And then they broke up. And then, like, 10 years later, my dad was on a road trip across Canada on a motorcycle, and my mom was at a restaurant in Canada, and she was breaking up with her boyfriend. And she's like, hey, like, things aren't working out. I'm moving to San Francisco. If you want to meet me there, I'm going to be there. So I'm a product of the potential of things working out even if they didn't work out the first time.
Interviewer
Mm.

Show me.
Oliver Tree
This was us in Japan.
Interviewer
Oh, your family is so cute.
Oliver Tree
I know. Look at my dad. This is them on a hot air balloon in Turkey.
Interviewer
Wait. They're the cutest.
Oliver Tree
My show in Australia.
Advertisement Voice
Here?
Oliver Tree
Yeah. I've been trying to get them to travel with me. This is us at my grandmother's ranch.
Interviewer
Oliver, you look so normal there.
Oliver Tree
I know.
Interviewer
Look at that.
Oliver Tree
Used to be a normal guy before the accident.
Interviewer
What accident?
Oliver Tree
I had a bad accident. Not have a bad accident at the water park.
Interviewer
Stop it.
Oliver Tree
Bad spill on a water slide.
Interviewer
Stop it.
Oliver Tree
Look at them. So cute.
Interviewer
You and your mom look like.
Oliver Tree
I know. My dad actually also looks a lot like me, but. Yeah, I'm basically them mixed together.
Interviewer
Oh, that's kind of what happens.
Oliver Tree
Yeah. It's pretty trippy, right?
Interviewer
Are you religious?
Oliver Tree
Very.
Interviewer
What are you.
Oliver Tree
So. I don't know the term.
Interviewer
Okay, I'll help you figure it out.
Oliver Tree
So I believe in the art gods. So it's like the music gods, the film gods. I'm not joking. So when I, like, for example, have a big shoot, right? I shot a music video that was. It was three videos for a million dollars in Serbia. And I went there to be able to shoot in front of these certain brutalist structures. I'm obsessed with brutalist architecture. You know it.
Interviewer
Yeah. You have a girlfriend now?
Oliver Tree
I don't know. Recently broke up. We can't put that in there, though. I don't want to talk about it. Can we move to the next question or. This is the last question and I got to milk this.
Interviewer
That's really sweet that he lives with his family.
Oliver Tree
Yes. The family unit is so important. And actually, as I get older, I realized how important it is. And my parents like Oliver. Like, it's a lot to travel all the time. And I was like, guys, look like we don't know if I'll be alive next year. You'll be alive. Like, there's no day promised. Do you know how high risk I live my life actually for real?
Advertisement Voice
No.
Oliver Tree
The last two years, I was living in PU huts in Africa. I stayed in mud houses in Iraq. I'm actually planning a trip with my friend Drew Binsky. He's coming tonight. We're going to plan out Turkmenistan, Iraq. We're going to go to Syria. I never trusted humanity more. I put my hand blindly into people's arms, and I never had more trust. I never felt more love to humans. I never felt more connected. I mean, I've been with every major religion.
Interviewer
Wow.
Oliver Tree
Well, the crazy thing is I don't blend in anywhere. Right. You can't see my hair now, but
Interviewer
I don't believe that you. Like, normally in those pictures with your parents, you do blend in.
Oliver Tree
Thank you.
Interviewer
That's not.
Oliver Tree
That's the second nicest thing you've said all day.
Interviewer
Compliment. You're wearing an Elmo outfit right now. Of course you don't blend in right now. What did my neighbors think of you walking up? Like.
Oliver Tree
I thought. Well, I made. You know, the older woman. I made eye contact, and she's like. She was giving me the old stink eye.
Interviewer
She was like. Like, what the Is happening?
Oliver Tree
I know. Well, you could just say that you were doing something for your daughter.
Interviewer
Yeah. Like, it was my kid's birthday party and I hired an Elmo and first.
Oliver Tree
That's what I'm saying. And I would technically do that for the right price. I do all kinds of stuff. I do birthday parties.
Interviewer
You do not do.
Oliver Tree
I do quinceaneras. I do private events.
Interviewer
You do.
Oliver Tree
Because then you get Elmo and you get a free concert, but the part you're paying for is Elmo.
Interviewer
What's your favorite song you've ever done?
Oliver Tree
Whatever one's made me the most money. That's basically what it boils down to.
Interviewer
Okay.
Oliver Tree
Because I love the most. I got a few. I got a few platinum, few gold. I got, like, at least 15 gold songs.
Interviewer
But have you ever won a Grammy?
Oliver Tree
No, but I'm actually working on getting my first Latin Grammy, so thank you for mentioning.
Interviewer
Oh, that would be cool.

what this is.
Interviewer
You working on it?
Oliver Tree
Yeah, I'm manifesting. I believe I could speak it into existence. And I'm actually doing a bilingual album next.
Interviewer
Why don't you just go all in? I am no more English.
Oliver Tree
I'm done with English.
Interviewer
English, start speaking Spanish right now.
Oliver Tree
I'm not gonna do it right now because I know the viewers at home will not appreciate that. They'll be confused. I know you're not going to spend the time to put subtitles.
Interviewer
I will.
Oliver Tree
But on my show, we're going to
Interviewer
put subtitles for the rest of your Spanish.
Oliver Tree
Perfect. We'll do it for the next one. So, wait, what's the idea with the show? It's called the best show ever.
Interviewer
The really good podcast.
Oliver Tree
Oh, what's the question?
Interviewer
I don't remember.
Oliver Tree
Good. We shouldn't talk about that anyways. But I would say this.
Interviewer
Say it.
Oliver Tree
I think what I learned is,
Interviewer
why
Oliver Tree
are you the way you are, incredibly dope, handsome? Well, I used to be a hand model too.
Interviewer
I have a hard time believing that.
Oliver Tree
Well, you can't tell now because it looks like I have hot Cheetos on my hands. But I actually have really nice hands. And there was fan accounts dedicated just to my hands, I'm sure.
Interviewer
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oliver Tree
I mean, do you like them?
Interviewer
What's your least favorite thing about yourself?
Oliver Tree
Oh, there's so many. I'm learning to love myself. Least favorite thing would probably be, it's hard when you're that dope because, like, it's like, guys want to be you, girls want to be with you. It's challenging, you know? So that's probably the hardest part of being with me. But this whole process of me traveling, a lot of it was done alone. And I actually learned to love myself and be able to spend a lot of time with myself. And guess what? Me and Oliver, we love all the same things. Oliver loves to take pictures of concrete brutalist structures in countries that he's never heard of. He loves to eat weird and exotic foods. He likes to make music till 6 in the morning.
Interviewer
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Oliver Tree
10 years? Ah, that's a great question. I would say probably somewhere in former Yugoslavia. My uncle lives there. He has a corn farm. And I think that maybe the ultimate goal is to probably build out a plot of land, maybe do a little corn field, maybe a little bit of an olive oil farm. Basically make olive trees.
Interviewer
Oliver, what would you like to plug for yourself today?
Oliver Tree
Basically, the album came out. I worked on it for two years. 70 songs written and produced entirely by yours truly. I even engineered all the vocals. I recorded it in hotel rooms across these 82 countries. But I have fun.

Host: Bobbi Althoff
Guest: Oliver Tree
This episode of The Really Good Podcast features the ever-eclectic Oliver Tree, musician, director, and viral personality, in conversation with Bobbi Althoff. In classic Bobbi style, the episode alternates between deadpan humor and unexpectedly vulnerable admissions, exploring Oliver’s unusual lifestyle, career pivots, creative process, and his singular worldview. Listeners get an entertaining mix of absurd storytelling, real insight into the music industry, and a peek into Oliver’s offbeat personal life.
"If I listened to every person along the way who said Oliver Tree, don't do this, Oliver Tree don't do that, there would be no Oliver Tree and we would not be here tonight." (01:29)
"So that’s a dog shit label. Edit that out." (05:45)
"They fired everyone in the company... hired a bunch of random people who didn’t give a shit... and I’ve made them tens of millions of dollars..." (06:00–07:05)
"Did you ever tell the truth?" – Bobbi (03:27)
"Of course. What do you want to know? I’m an open book." – Oliver (03:28)
"I was, like, pooing and throwing up, like, liquid black... and they had to turn the taxi around." (08:50)
"I’m not a certified physician, although I do some work in the medical field..." (12:21, tongue-in-cheek)
"There’s nothing better than being with the family, being in the casa, being in the actual real life world." (17:30)
"My parents met in a flute class... went up in the trees and played flute..." (18:49–19:33)
"The family unit is so important... as I get older, I realize how important it is." (22:16)
"I believe in the art gods. So it’s like the music gods, the film gods. I'm not joking." (21:43)
"Guys want to be you, girls want to be with you. It's challenging, you know? So that's probably the hardest part of being with me." (25:25)
"70 songs written and produced entirely by yours truly... in hotel rooms across these 82 countries." (26:30)
"I'm actually working on getting my first Latin Grammy..." (24:00)
On industry resilience:
"Life is short and your energy is precious." – Oliver Tree (01:48)
On the absurdity of his life:
"I have no idea what I'm doing. I lost the plot so long ago." – Oliver Tree (15:49)
On family ties:
"I feel more at home [in Mexico] than I do in America." – Oliver Tree (17:47)
On belief in love:
"I believe in love. My parents are still together. They're still very much in love." – Oliver Tree (20:52)
On creative spirituality:
"I believe in the art gods. So it’s like the music gods, the film gods. I'm not joking." (21:43)
This episode balances Oliver Tree’s over-the-top, surreal humor with rare moments of sincerity, all filtered through Bobbi’s deadpan, skeptical delivery. Listeners can expect playful banter, unexpected candor, self-deprecation, kitchen-sink absurdity, and genuine perspective on creativity and the pressures of the music industry.
For fans of offbeat comedy and behind-the-scenes music insight alike, this episode is a ride: riddled with Oliver’s outrageous (and probably embellished) tales, but grounded by real stories about family, ambition, and staying true to one’s vision. It’s an oddly touching and laugh-out-loud funny conversation, perfectly in keeping with the tone of The Really Good Podcast.
