Rocky Jordan
Sunday is a big day on CBS. Still waiting in the wings to bring you a variety of entertainment are Rocky Jordan, Horace height, our Ms. Brooks, Evelyn Knight, the Whistler, Red Skelton.
Del Monte Announcer
Now Del Monte foods bring you a world of adventure with Rocky Jordan.
Rocky Jordan
All right, ease off, Hassan. I've had enough rubbed off. But offendi Jordan, my salt rubs do most excellent things to the body, like raising welts. You're about as tender as a pile driver.
Stefan Mailer
Excuse me please, but could you tell me which of these corridors lead to the steam boom? I. I'm new to these bathrooms.
Rocky Jordan
Oh, just a second. Come on, I'll show you. I can use a steam bath myself.
Stefan Mailer
Thank you, Stefan. Mela is my name, sir.
Rocky Jordan
Oh, Jordan. Rocky Jordan.
Stefan Mailer
Most pleased to meet you. You are visitor to Cairo as I am.
Rocky Jordan
No, I'm in business here. Run a cafe. Oh, that's the door to the steam room.
Stefan Mailer
Allow me to open it. Door is nothing to open all the way. Something is blocking it.
Rocky Jordan
Pull it shut. Me. Slam it. Stay here, Mela. Don't let anyone in that steam room. And don't go in yourself unless you're tired of living. I'll be right back.
Del Monte Announcer
Del Monte, the brand you trust for flavor in so many good foods. Yes, Del Monte, the best like brand of canned fruits and vegetables in the whole wide world. Takes you now to the Cafe Tambourine for another adventure with Rocky Jordan. The Cafe Tambourine in Cairo, gateway to the ancient east, where modern adventure and intrigue unfold against a backdrop of antiquity. Tonight's Rocky Jordan adventure. An air of death.
Rocky Jordan
It all started with a door that wouldn't come full open and a hiss of steam. Stefan Mailer and I had walked down the corridor to Hassan's steam room and pushed at the door. It came open partway and then stopped and a quick look told me why. I slammed the door shut and moved to the front office fast to find a phone. Friend Jordan, what seems to be the matter? You'll find out soon enough, Captain. Rocky, there's a dead guy sprawled out in Hassan's steam room. You better get over here and bring along a Suction pump.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Suction pump.
Rocky Jordan
When you see a dead guy and smell burnt almonds in the air, what do you think of.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Cyanide.
Rocky Jordan
That's right. Cyanide vapor. And Hassan's steam room's full of it. Just thought you might want to know. Sam showed, but it was an hour before the room was clear of the poison gas. And we found out who the dead man was.
Captain Sam Sabaya
His name is Emil Grotman Jordan.
Gerard
Oh, yeah.
Rocky Jordan
Runs a small tobacco shop in the Caliph Arcade.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Hasan, do you have the names of the men who were in your bath today?
Rocky Jordan
Yes, Captain. I shall prepare a list for you immediately. Sam, get a load of this water bottle. Found it sitting in the corner.
Stefan Mailer
Smell it.
Rocky Jordan
Acid. Looks like this is what made the cyanide gas. Cyanide tablet with a protective coating dropped in the acid. First the acid had to eat away the coating, giving the killer time to get away. Then it went to work on the tablet making the poison gas.
Captain Sam Sabaya
You know, your knowledge of so many things sometimes astounds me. Well, I shall get the list of names from Hasan Jordan. And you too, Mr. Mara. I wish you to know that your name shall be on the list also. So we will meet again.
Stefan Mailer
Mr. Jordan, I. I want to thank you for what you did. If you had not shut the door to the steam room.
Rocky Jordan
Oh, forget it, Mailer. I didn't do it just for you. It was my life too.
Stefan Mailer
I'm most indebted to you. If there is ever anything that I, in my humble way, may do for you, please feel free to ask.
Rocky Jordan
Okay. Who knows? I may take you up on it sometime. I'll see you later, Mailer. Drop in at the chambering.
Del Monte Announcer
Yes.
Stefan Mailer
Yes, I shall be most happy to.
Rocky Jordan
After poking around a bit more, Sam asked me to go with him to Emil Grotman's tobacco shop to break the Sad news to Mrs. Grotman. A silver sign saying the best in domestic and imported tobaccos we mail anywhere hung in the window. Sam and I went in. Mrs. Grotman was standing behind the counter. A small, thin woman with dark skin and sunken cheeks. Sam introduced himself. It was his party, so I let him carry the ball.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Mrs. Gottman, I am afraid that I have sad news for you.
Mrs. Grotman
That news good Captain Sabia, is not far into me.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Your husband, Mrs. Gotman, is dead.
Rocky Jordan
Didn't you hear, Mrs. Gratman? Emil's dead.
Mrs. Grotman
I heard. The good captain.
Captain Sam Sabaya
You do not seem surprised at the news.
Mrs. Grotman
Perhaps that is because I am not.
Rocky Jordan
Look, I found him in Hassan's steam room. He was murdered.
Mrs. Grotman
Thank you for telling me. I shall make any arrangements necessary for the funeral.
Captain Sam Sabaya
You indicate very little feeling for your husband.
Mrs. Grotman
Does it seem so to you, Mrs.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Godman, I suggest that you make arrangements to close your shop and appear at headquarters as soon as possible. I have many questions to ask you.
Mrs. Grotman
As you wish, Captain.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Come along, Jordan.
Rocky Jordan
I'll see you later, Sam. I want to buy some tobacco.
Captain Sam Sabaya
If you wish, Jordan.
Rocky Jordan
Goodbye.
Mrs. Grotman
What tobacco do you wish, Mr. Jordan?
Rocky Jordan
You didn't leave a good impression with Sam, Mrs. Gratman. News like Sam gave you usually ends up in tears.
Mrs. Grotman
Why are you so concerned?
Rocky Jordan
I almost stepped into that death chamber myself. What's it all about, Mrs. Gratman? Who killed Emil and why?
Anna Grotman
Good afternoon, Mother.
Mrs. Grotman
Good afternoon, Anna. You are home early.
Anna Grotman
Mother. I saw a police car parked in front of the shop. I saw the captain leave. What is the matter?
Mrs. Grotman
Nothing to talk about now, daughter, go to your room and wash for lunch.
Anna Grotman
But, Mother.
Mrs. Grotman
Please go into your room and wash your face. It is dirty.
Anna Grotman
Yes, Mother.
Rocky Jordan
Aren't you going to tell her?
Mrs. Grotman
What tobacco is it that you wish, Mr. Jordan?
Rocky Jordan
What are you made of? Your husband's killed and your eyes don't even turn up damp. Your daughter comes home and you play it like like nothing happened.
Mrs. Grotman
You will please to leave now, Mr. Jordan. The shop is closed for the day.
Rocky Jordan
All right, I'll go. Pretty cold in here anyway. I went back to the tambourine. Tried to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Marked the afternoon up for forgetfulness. I didn't get off that easily. That evening I had a visitor. Little Anna Gratman.
Anna Grotman
Please, Mr. Jordan, why was my daddy killed?
Rocky Jordan
I don't know, Anna.
Anna Grotman
But who would want to kill him? No one disliked him, and he disliked no one.
Alice Holt
Except.
Rocky Jordan
Except who?
Anna Grotman
It is true, Mr. Jordan, that adults in a family often argue.
Rocky Jordan
Did your mother and father argue a lot?
Anna Grotman
I have spoken to my friends. At times their parents argue, too.
Rocky Jordan
That doesn't answer my question. What about your mother and father?
Anna Grotman
She is not my mother, Mr. Jordan, though I call her mother, as Daddy wished. My real mother died when I was born.
Rocky Jordan
Stepmother.
Anna Grotman
Daddy married her two years ago.
Rocky Jordan
Have you talked to Captain Zebia?
Anna Grotman
No.
Rocky Jordan
Come on, I'll take you home. And I want to go over to the police station and talk to him. The Grumpman house was in back of the shop. A few moments later, I was walking Anna down the dirt path toward the back door. We were just stepping out of the darkness into a ray of moonlight when something stopped me. A man had stepped out of the back door. Of the Grotman house carrying something under his coat. Who is he, Anna?
Anna Grotman
His name is Gerard, Mr. Jordan. He works for Mother.
Rocky Jordan
He walked to the incinerator, stuffed the package he was carrying into it, set a match to the bundle. Then he went back into the house. The package? Figured it'd be worth looking at. Anna and I made it over the incinerator, pulled the bundle out, slapped it to burning edges. What is it, Mr. George? It's an uncancelled stamp on the bundle. It was wrapped from mailing.
Anna Grotman
The shop mails tobacco to any part of the world.
Rocky Jordan
Address is mostly burned off. All I can see is Eva. Switzerland. Could be Geneva.
Anna Grotman
There's still some of the contents stuck to the paper. It's tobacco.
Rocky Jordan
I wonder. I would cher I'd want to burn a bundle of tobacco. That's all it is. Come on, Anna. Who is out there?
Stefan Mailer
Stop, Steve.
Anna Grotman
It's Gerard, Mr. Jordan. He sees us.
Rocky Jordan
Anna. Tuck around that building and then go back home. Meet me at the tambourine later.
Anna Grotman
But what of you, Mr. Jordan? Gerard is nice.
Rocky Jordan
Gerard wants this package. He's not going to get it. I'll lose him. Now go on, beat it. Well, gerard, with that 8 inches of knife he waved over his head, looked like impending doom. It turned out to be Abbott and Costello in his sultan's harem. Gerard was big but slow. I had to ease off to a trot to keep him after me until Anna got out of sight. Then I turned on some speed and headed down an alley to lose Gerard for good. That was a mistake. The Alley went about 10 yards and then stopped. There were buildings to the right of me, buildings to the left of me, and likewise in front. It was like the charge of the Light Brigade. Only Gerard was the brigade and he was doing the charging. He roared down the alley after me, his knife arm real limber. That's when I spotted a fire escape and started to go up it. I made a few steps, but that was all. Gerard's knife by then was slashing at the seat of my pants and I knew I had to do something. Quick, give me back my package. Instead, I lifted my heavier foot and gave a mat right in his face. I tried my other foot with a little English that caught him under the chin. He stumbled backwards and flopped into a puddle of water and lay still. I left him there under a street lamp. I examined the package mixed with a tobacco with the grains of a white powder, cyanide. Maybe five minutes later, I was heading for a chemical laboratory to have the white powder analyzed. I figured that was going to blow up the Grotman killing like a keg of dynamite. And it might just as well be me who set off the charge.
Del Monte Announcer
Del Monte Foods is presenting tonight's Adventure with Rocky Jordan. As the saying goes, friends, there are always two sides to every question. But when you stop to think about the catsup buying question, you might say there are four sides to quality. Flavor, dependability and price.
Herbert Poole
And I've found that those four things are so important. Especially when I'm faced with a problem of staying within my food budget and yet serving satisfying meals to my family.
Del Monte Announcer
You'll find Del Monte catsup is four good things rolled into one. Everybody knows Del Monte means quality in any food. And as for flavor, why, Del Monte is the only catsup made with pineapple vinegar, the sparkling extra fine vinegar that brings out so much fine tomato flavor in catsup. Talk about extra lively spiced tomato flavor. Del Monte catsup really has it. And as for dependability, well, what could be more dependable than a catsup packed by the world's largest selling, best liked brand of canned fruits and vegetables, Del Monte.
Herbert Poole
As a homemaker, I found price is important, too. That's another wonderful thing about Del Monte Cassip. For all its dependable quality and flavor, Del Monte Cassip actually costs less than many other quality brands.
Del Monte Announcer
Yes, when it comes to buying catsup, you can't beat Del Monte for the big four. Quality, flavor, dependability and price. Ask your grocer for Del Monte catsup tomorrow. And now we take you back to Cairo and tonight's Rocky Jordan story. An air of death.
Rocky Jordan
Well, it got off to a running start. Emil Grotman turned up dead from breathing cyanide fumes in Hassan's steam room. The how was easy to figure. Cyanide salts in acid. But the who was tougher. There are over a dozen men in Hassan's baths, including myself and Stefan Mailer, who found the body with me. And there was Hassan himself. Add to that list Grotman's wife, his daughter, and Gerard, a helper around the shop. The why wasn't easy to figure either. Well, the package Gerard wanted to burn could tell something that was for sure. So I hustled it over to Joseph Schumer's chem lab and had him run some tests, hoping it would turn up cyanide.
Del Monte Announcer
I came to Cairo to set up a chain. Red and yellow drugstores.
Rocky Jordan
Smile and Joe Schumar.
Del Monte Announcer
Everything from penicillin to itching powder. I was gonna make a fortune.
Rocky Jordan
The test Schumer look At me. I end up in a two by.
Del Monte Announcer
Four store selling horehound to a bunch of toothless natives.
Rocky Jordan
They test Schumacher. What test?
Stefan Mailer
Oh, well, these.
Del Monte Announcer
I finished them long ago.
Rocky Jordan
Cyanide.
Del Monte Announcer
Cyanide, he says. Yeah, you layman.
Rocky Jordan
Okay, expert. Tell me.
Del Monte Announcer
Narcotics.
Rocky Jordan
Narcotics?
Del Monte Announcer
Opium, to be specific.
Rocky Jordan
It fits. Grotman's shop was the ship off place we mail to any part of the world. Tobacco flavored, not too slightly with Dream Powder. Emil's killings tied in. Thanks, Schumer. Gonna take the package and your report, Mr. Jordan. Watch out behind you, huh? I woke up in the alley about two blocks from Schumar's lab with a lump on the side of my head. The package and the chemist's report on its contents were gone. That made sense. Someone had caught up with me and got the opium remnants away.
Captain Sam Sabaya
Geron?
Rocky Jordan
Yeah, maybe. But it was one thing to steal the package in the report and another thing to keep the information from Sam. Joseph Schumacher could tell Sabaya over the phone just as easily as on a slip of paper. I headed back to the lab. Hey, who knocked me out? Schumer. Big guy with a knife.
Gerard
Who knocked you out?
Del Monte Announcer
What are you talking about?
Rocky Jordan
Package is gone, Schumann. So's your report to supplier. Get Sam on the phone. What? What package?
Del Monte Announcer
Mr. Jordan?
Herbert Poole
What report?
Rocky Jordan
You know what package. The one with the opium in it.
Del Monte Announcer
I came to Cairo to start a chain. Red and yellow stores. I was gonna make a mint on suntan lotion.
Rocky Jordan
That's all I know. You trying to pull Schuma? 10 minutes ago you got through doing an analysis on the contents of a package I brought in. It turned up opium.
Del Monte Announcer
There must be some mistake.
Rocky Jordan
Yeah, and you're making it. I'd ought call Sabaya myself, tell him what you want. I'll deny it. I want to stay in business.
Del Monte Announcer
I know nothing about nothing except red and yellow stores.
Rocky Jordan
I don't know about the red part, but you sure could be the manager of a chain of yellow ones. Okay, I'll work it out another way. Well, Anna, after what happened to me, Schumach was afraid to talk and wasn't anything I could do.
Anna Grotman
Are you going to tell Captain Sabia?
Rocky Jordan
Telling him won't mean anything. I ought to have something to show him. Anna.
Anna Grotman
Yes?
Rocky Jordan
There's one thing you ought to realize. Captain Sabia is going to find out about the smuggling. He's going to tie it in with your father's death. And, well, Sam's a policeman with a job to do. He's going to look at the facts coldly.
Anna Grotman
Mr. Jordan, what are you trying to tell me?
Rocky Jordan
Anna, Sam's going to say that the smuggling went on in your father's shop. The mailings went out under his name.
Anna Grotman
But Mr. Jordan, it is not his shop. Even before he and my stepmother married, it was her shop.
Rocky Jordan
He found out about the smuggling and was killed for knowing. Maybe. Anna, what we need is a way to find out who's really selling that stuff. We need a way to bring it out into the open.
Stefan Mailer
Good evening, Mr. Jorge.
Rocky Jordan
Oh, Mr. Mehler.
Stefan Mailer
Your associate from that dreadful incident at Hassan's steam room. I took this occasion to accept your invitation to come to your cafe.
Rocky Jordan
Mailer. Mailer, did you mean it when you said if there was anything you could do for me to call on you?
Stefan Mailer
Of course, Mr. Jordan. My debt to you is a large one.
Rocky Jordan
All right. I can use you. Now, Anna, I think I know how we can smoke out the smuggler and the killer. Come on, let's go into my office. I'll tell you all about it. An hour and a half later, Stefan Mailer and I were in his hotel room waiting for a knock on the door. The plan was simple. I had set Mailer up as a buyer from the US in Cairo to make contacts and to spend $200,000. That was a lot of bait. And it'd bring out the fish. Word was dropped at a waterfront bar. The Cairo under workings were to bring the seller to Mailer and to me. So we waited.
Stefan Mailer
I. I have never done such a thing before.
Rocky Jordan
Mr. Jordan, we learn new things all the time.
Stefan Mailer
But this the buyer. I hope they do not find out about it in Johannesburg. As soon as this is over, I'm going to fly home.
Rocky Jordan
Well, Meiler started fanning himself with the envelope that contained his airplane ticket. He kept stewing and we kept waiting. We met an assortment of small time peddlers.
Del Monte Announcer
I have here a quantity of quality stuff which is for sale to a person with the proper amount of American dollars.
Rocky Jordan
The first three were minnows and we threw them out. Number four was a dame, slightly waxed.
Mrs. Grotman
A brand new type of stuff made from the colorful rainbow bush. Guaranteed dreams in Technicolor.
Rocky Jordan
She went out like the rest and it wasn't until two hours later that the real fish bit. Standing there, minus his knife, was Gerard. I grabbed him and dragged him into the room.
Stefan Mailer
What are you doing?
Rocky Jordan
What are you doing here? Gerard, you heard that Mailer was buying stuff. He came to make a sale.
Stefan Mailer
No, I did not.
Rocky Jordan
You're the one who mailed this stuff in Grotman Stabacker.
Stefan Mailer
No, that is not so.
Rocky Jordan
Ah, then what is?
Stefan Mailer
I am just a messenger.
Rocky Jordan
For who?
Captain Sam Sabaya
I cannot say.
Rocky Jordan
All right, we can waltz around once more.
Stefan Mailer
No, do not hit me. Mrs. Grman sent me.
Rocky Jordan
Is that level?
Stefan Mailer
She sent me.
Rocky Jordan
Come on, we're going over to see her. Want to come, Mayor?
Stefan Mailer
No, no, no. I think I have had enough of this. I must prepare to go home to Johannesburg.
Rocky Jordan
Okay. Come on, Gerard. You're gonna play that record once again for a very interested listener.
Mrs. Grotman
I did not expect to see you again, Mr. Jordan.
Rocky Jordan
Oh, our lives are full of surprises. Brought in a bird that wants to sing. We've got something to talk about, Mrs. Gratman.
Mrs. Grotman
I do not believe we have anything to talk about.
Rocky Jordan
Your husband found out the opium was being smuggled out of the country. And the tobacco bundles. That was too much information to have and to live.
Mrs. Grotman
So you are of the opinion Emil was murdered because of that?
Rocky Jordan
Got a lot of support. Let's expand. Who's the key to the puzzle? The real smuggler. I set Mailer up as a buyer. Gerard shows ready to sell. Only he makes it real convincing. He's just an advanced man for someone else. You. You've got 10 seconds to talk your way out of it, Mrs. Grudman.
Mrs. Grotman
I have nothing to say.
Rocky Jordan
When Sir Biah gets the story, he'll figure you killed your husband.
Stefan Mailer
You'll see to it.
Rocky Jordan
You have plenty to say.
Mrs. Grotman
The good captain may try as hard as he wishes, Mr. Jordan. He will still have to prove quite definitely that I was the smuggler and that I killed Emil.
Rocky Jordan
And you don't think he can do it?
Mrs. Grotman
Perhaps he can. Perhaps he can, Mr. Jordan.
Rocky Jordan
You know something, Mrs. Gratman? I don't think he can either.
Mrs. Grotman
Why?
Rocky Jordan
Because you didn't kill your husband?
Mrs. Grotman
You are most changeable, Mr. Jordan.
Rocky Jordan
Emil was killed in the steam room of Hassan's Baths for men. Things being as they are, you couldn't have even gotten through the front door. Well, that takes me back to you, Gerard.
Stefan Mailer
Me?
Rocky Jordan
You could have gotten into the steam room and you could have done it for Mrs. Grattman.
Stefan Mailer
But that was not possible, Mr. Jordan. I was not even near Hassan's death this afternoon. I was across town all the time.
Rocky Jordan
Got a way to prove it?
Stefan Mailer
Of course I have, Mr. Jordan. I was with Anna all the time.
Rocky Jordan
And he was. Anna verified his story, and Gerard was cleared. So was Mrs. G. Since she didn't have the entrance requirements to get into Hassan's baths. Well, my whole theory fell apart like a paper hat in a rainstorm. I left the Grotman house, phoned Sam to bring him up to date. Then I asked him how he was doing.
Captain Sam Sabaya
There are eight names on the list that has unsupplied me, George, and already five have been checked and cleared.
Rocky Jordan
So Sam still had three left. I wished him good hunting, caught a cab and headed back for the tambourine. But I never got there. A simple little billboard sign changed my plans. Take TWA Constellation to Athens, Rome, Geneva, Paris and New York. That's all. It's. But it was enough. I made a quick stop at the Central office, and 20 minutes later I was pressing a hotel buzzer.
Stefan Mailer
Oh, Mr. Jordan.
Rocky Jordan
Hi, Amelia.
Stefan Mailer
Is it all over, Mr. Jordan?
Rocky Jordan
No, not yet. It's getting there. Let me see your airplane ticket. What? Your airplane ticket. You said you were flying home to Johannesburg.
Stefan Mailer
But why should you want to see it?
Rocky Jordan
Oh, never mind. I don't have to see it. I saw the envelope. It had a TWA stamp on it. TWA doesn't fly to Johannesburg. But it does fly to Geneva, Switzerland. That's where your ticket's marked for. So you lied.
Stefan Mailer
Why, Mr. Jordan, I do not understand your name.
Rocky Jordan
Sam's got three names left on his list. One's mine, one's Hassan's, and the other is yours.
Stefan Mailer
Captain Sabia said as much.
Rocky Jordan
He said that I didn't do it. So that leaves Hassan and you. You both were there. Either one of you could have slipped into the steam room and set up the contraption that made the cyanide gas, if you had the equipment. Throw open your suitcase, Mela.
Stefan Mailer
My suitcase?
Alice Holt
Mr.
Stefan Mailer
Taught me a few.
Rocky Jordan
All right, I'll throw it open myself. Are you a drinking man, Mr. Mailer? This whiskey flask. Empty. It doesn't smell like it carried whiskey. Acid, maybe.
Stefan Mailer
Acid? Good heavens, Mr. Jordan, you're not trying.
Rocky Jordan
To say that label on the jar says vitamin tablet? Are you unhealthy, Mr. Mailer?
Stefan Mailer
Mr. Jordan, your actions are most peculiar. You have come here, upset my suitcase. What are you doing?
Rocky Jordan
Just pouring a glass of water for you. Make the vitamin pill slide down easier. You're gonna take one, Mailer. It's that time. I am not going to take one. There. You're turning pale. One vitamin pill. Guaranteed to give you your color back.
Stefan Mailer
Keep away from me, Mr. John.
Rocky Jordan
One little pill, Mailer. The cure all. I will not take it. I will not take it. I don't have to force it down your throat. Why not?
Stefan Mailer
It's cyanide.
Rocky Jordan
Oh, really? I'd never have guessed.
Stefan Mailer
I. I know when the Intels come.
Rocky Jordan
Cyanide tablet plus acid equals cyanide gas. Why'd you do it, Melan?
Stefan Mailer
Why'd you kill Gratman? I was buying the narcotics from him. He was mailing it to me in Geneva. I would send the money and the package would come by return mail.
Rocky Jordan
And what happened?
Stefan Mailer
The picture just started to come. Without the opium.
Rocky Jordan
You figured you were being double cross and didn't like it. Came to Cairo and squared things. All right, Melor, that's it. Let's go see Sam.
Del Monte Announcer
In just a moment. Rocky Jordan returns to conclude tonight's story. These dark winter mornings, wouldn't it be grand to have some kind of foolproof system to get those sleepy heads to open their eyes at breakfast?
Anna Grotman
Why, that doesn't call for a system, Larry.
Herbert Poole
That calls for Del Monte Tomato juice.
Anna Grotman
There's nothing like a big glass of that delicious summer tomato flavor to get.
Herbert Poole
Folks to wake up and like it.
Del Monte Announcer
Yes, and Del Monte tomato juice really opens your eyes to just how fresh tasting and natural tasting tomato juice can be. Seems like Del Monte has turned the trick of capturing all the rich, natural flavor of the finest tomatoes.
Anna Grotman
Well, I've had plenty of tomato juice in my time.
Herbert Poole
But I've never found one that's quite.
Anna Grotman
So refreshing as Del Monte.
Herbert Poole
Del Monte really has that true ripe.
Anna Grotman
Tomato flavor down pat.
Del Monte Announcer
So that's what makes it taste good any time of day. Before meals as an appetizer, between meals as a pick me up, or with meals as a real satisfier. To try it is to like it, friends. So enjoy. Del Monte Tomato juice soon. Back now to Rocky Jordan for the conclusion of tonight's story.
Rocky Jordan
Well, I turned Mailer over to Sam and gave him all the details. Joseph Schumar's behavior at the chemist shop cleared up, too. Mailer had pressed him into saying he knew nothing about the opium analysis. Schumer wanted to stay alive. And that was about it. Then I caught a cab and headed over to Mrs. Grotman's house. I got her and Anna out of bed and told them what had happened. Mrs. Grotman had something real interesting to say.
Mrs. Grotman
Hannah, would you please leave the room for a moment?
Anna Grotman
Yes, Mother.
Mrs. Grotman
Mr. Jordan, it may seem to you that I have been acting without feeling through this entire affair.
Rocky Jordan
Well, I can't say that it didn't occur to me.
Mrs. Grotman
It is not that I have had no feeling in this matter, Mr. Jordan. In fact, it is because I have had too much feeling.
Rocky Jordan
I am afraid you will have to clear that up.
Mrs. Grotman
It is not that I loved My husband. I did not. After we were married some time I found out what he was doing. Using my shop for the smuggling. We argued much, but he would not change his ways. I knew it would lead to serious trouble. That it would certainly affect anna. Still listening, Mr. Jordan? I killed my husband, Emil.
Rocky Jordan
What?
Mrs. Grotman
The packages he was fixing for mailing to Geneva. I had Gerard Byrne. I mailed another package just of tobacco in its place. So you see, I am indirectly responsible for his death.
Rocky Jordan
No, you're not, Mrs. Gratman. You may feel you are, but you're not. You were trying to protect yourself and Anna. That it worked out this way isn't your fault.
Mrs. Grotman
I wish I could believe it.
Rocky Jordan
You can. And you should. I can figure out another thing, Mrs. Grotman. I know why you didn't tell Sam anything about the smuggling after Emil's death. You didn't want anyone to know Emil was a smuggler.
Mrs. Grotman
I did not want Anna to know.
Rocky Jordan
That's what I meant. You must think a lot of her.
Mrs. Grotman
I wish she thought as much of me.
Anna Grotman
I am learning to mother.
Rocky Jordan
You've got thin doors, Mrs. Grotman. I guess it's a good thing. Good night.
Del Monte Announcer
For the finest in tomato flavor. Enjoy the whole family of Del Monte tomato products.
Anna Grotman
Del Monte catsup and chili sauce.
Herbert Poole

Herbert Poole
Herbert, I think the Sunday puzzle gets more difficult every week. Now I need a Dickens character in six letters. Who is it? Do you know?
Gerard
No.
Herbert Poole
A Dickens character in. Oh, could it be Marley?
Gerard
Maybe so.
Herbert Poole
Oh, what fun we used to have doing the puzzle together. Remember, dear? When we were first married?
Gerard
Sure do. That was a good many years ago. Mabel.
Herbert Poole
I wish you'd Put those old binoculars down and help me. Now, what do you see over there in the park that's so engrossing?
Gerard
Oh, birds, children, Lots of things.
Herbert Poole
And pretty girls. Herbert.
Rocky Jordan
Hmm?
Gerard
Oh, sure, but I'm interested in the birds.
Herbert Poole
Well, don't you think you better put those glasses away now and do the work you brought home from the office?
Gerard
Oh, I don't feel like working this afternoon, Mabel. It's too nice a day. I'll do it tonight.
Herbert Poole
All right. But I hope you won't stay up till all hours.
Gerard
I won't, dear.
Herbert Poole
You need your sleep, you know.
Gerard
Yes, dear, I know.
Herbert Poole
What are you doing, Herbert?
Gerard
Getting my hat. Like a short walk in the park? Okay?
Herbert Poole
Of course. But you better wear your top coat. You know, that chest of yours. And don't stay out too long. I'm planning an early dinner. All the things you love.
Gerard
Don't worry, Mabel. I won't be long. Bye.
Herbert Poole
Bye, Herbert. Have a good time. Be careful crossing the avenue.
Gerard
I will, dear.
Alice Holt
Look, there's a pretty bird. What kind is it?
Rocky Jordan
That?
Gerard
Oh, just plain grackle. There are lots of them here in the park. Oh, over there. That's an oriole.
Alice Holt
My, you know all their names. But you know something? We've been talking together for more than an hour, and we don't even know each other's names.
Gerard
Mine's Herbert Poole. And it was kind of you to let me share this bench with you.
Alice Holt
Well, mine's Alice Holt, and I've enjoyed every minute of it.
Gerard
So have I. Much more than you realize. I'm still not too ancient to be well stimulated by the attention of a young, pretty girl.
Alice Holt
Oh, thanks for the pretty, but as for the young, I'm 28.
Gerard
Mmm. I'm 45. Quite a difference.
Alice Holt
Oh, not much, really. And if you want to know the truth, you stimulate me too.
Gerard
Do you mean that, Alice?
Alice Holt
Yes, I do, Mr. Herbert.
Gerard
Well, thanks for telling me. You've brightened a dismal day.
Alice Holt
Dismal? In what way?
Gerard
Well, frankly, I. I'm not very happy. And I'm as lonely as a man can be, even though I've been married for 20 years. Why are you sitting here all by yourself on a fine afternoon?
Alice Holt
Well, because I'm lonely too.
Gerard
You're not married?
Alice Holt
Well, I was. I've been a widow for three years.
Gerard
Oh, I'm sorry.
Herbert Poole
Oh, you needn't be.
Alice Holt
My husband was not terribly attentive.
Gerard
I envy you. I live under a stifling canopy of constant attention. My wife doesn't seem like a wife any Longer? She's more like a governess.
Alice Holt
Oh, dear. No wonder you're unhappy.
Gerard
Alice, I want to see you again. Could I?
Herbert Poole
Of course.
Alice Holt
I. I'd like that very much. Shall I give you my phone number?
Gerard
Please do. Here, use this card.
Alice Holt
I live in the Village.
Herbert Poole
Where do you live?
Gerard
In that apartment building right over there across the avenue. And I better be getting back.
Alice Holt
Well, here's my number. I'm usually home in the morning.
Gerard
Will you have lunch with me tomorrow? Please say yes.
Alice Holt
All right.
Herbert Poole
Where?
Gerard
Malvo's, on Irving Street. It's small and quiet. Noon sharp, all right.
Alice Holt
Yes, Herbert, I'll be there.
Gerard
Thank you, Alice. Thank you very much. I'm old Mabel.
Herbert Poole
Good. I was beginning to worry. My, your eyes are positively dancing. You must have had a lovely walk.
Del Monte Announcer
I did.
Gerard
Most refreshing.
Herbert Poole
I'm so glad. Tell me, Herbert, was her face as pretty as her figure?
Gerard
What are you talking about?
Herbert Poole
That girl you were sitting with on the park bench. Your binoculars, darling. You left them on the window sill.
Gerard
Mabel, were you spying on me?
Herbert Poole
No, just watching. But you were talking together so earnestly. I was fascinated.
Rocky Jordan
Oh, yeah?
Gerard
Well, I was telling her about the different birds.
Del Monte Announcer
She's interested in.
Gerard
Birds?
Herbert Poole
Oh, now, Herbert Poole, that's a big fib and you know it. I can always tell when you're fibbing. She appealed to you, didn't she?
Gerard
Mabel, for heaven's sake, the girl's 28 years old.
Herbert Poole
Well, you did cover a lot of ground, didn't you?
Rocky Jordan
Oh, now, look.
Gerard
I don't know why she told me her age. She just did, that's all.
Herbert Poole
Don't be alarmed, Herbert. I'm not angry. It's just that at your age, I don't want you to do anything foolish. Know what I mean? Mrs. Poole? Speaking.
Rocky Jordan
Good afternoon, Mrs. Poole.
Del Monte Announcer
This is Feeney, Rapid Investigation Service. The report is as follows. During the three week investigation you ordered, your husband and the young lady in question had eight separate meetings. The first seven took place in Malvo's Restaurant on Irving Street. The eighth occurred in Central park at the zoo. Where, upon parting, the couple embraced warmly.
Herbert Poole
I see. Have you identified the young lady?
Del Monte Announcer
Definitely. Mrs. Charles Holt, first name Alice. 28 years of age, widow, 2730 Charles Place, apartment 3G. Well, that's it, Mrs. Poole. You want the investigation to continue?
Herbert Poole
I think not. I'll come to your office in the morning and pay your fee.
Alice Holt
Oh, good morning. May I help you?
Herbert Poole
I'm sure you can. You're Alice Holt, aren't you?
Mrs. Grotman
Why, yes.
Herbert Poole
I'm Mabel Poole, Herbert's wife.
Alice Holt
Oh.
Herbert Poole
Well, why have you come here? I wanted to have a close look at you.
Alice Holt
I have nothing to say to you, Mrs. Poole. If you will excuse me just one moment.
Herbert Poole
My visit isn't quite over. What do you want? I want to give you a word of warning. Herbert and I have been married for 20 years and I'd hesitate at nothing to save my marriage.
Alice Holt
That sounds very much like a threat, Mrs. Poole.
Herbert Poole
It does, doesn't it? So if this foolish affair continues, I'll take the most drastic steps to end it. Is that clear?
Alice Holt
Yes, quite.
Herbert Poole
I'm glad we understand each other. Oh, before I leave, there's one more thing.
Alice Holt
Oh, what is it?
Herbert Poole
This. That's for meddling with my property. Goodbye, my dear.
Gerard
You heard what I said, Mabel. I want a divorce.
Rocky Jordan
I've had more than enough of you.
Herbert Poole
Please keep your voice down, Herbert. It's rude to shout.
Gerard
And don't patronize me. I'm sick of it.
Rocky Jordan
Very well.
Herbert Poole
Shall we have now and chat later?
Gerard
Mabel, I want a divorce.
Rocky Jordan
Alice and I love each other.
Herbert Poole
Oh, nonsense. The girl's nothing but a fortune hunter.
Rocky Jordan
Don't say that.
Herbert Poole
All right, Herbert. I wasn't going to tell you this because I didn't want to hurt you. But do you know why I slapped her this morning? Because she suggested that if I were to pay her $5,000 she'd disappear and never see you again.
Gerard
What? I don't believe you.
Rocky Jordan
That's a lie.
Herbert Poole
Oh, she'll deny, of course, but I swear it's true.
Gerard
It can't be.
Herbert Poole
It is a shock, isn't it, dear? As a matter of fact, I mailed her my check this afternoon. You're looking pale, dear. Hadn't you better go in and lie down?
Gerard
Yes, I think I will for a little while.
Herbert Poole
That's very wise of you. And try not to think about what's happened. It's all over now. I'm sure you and I will be closer than ever before.
Gerard
I'm leaving for the office, Mabel. I'll be home around 6.
Herbert Poole
Very well. Oh, darling, you look so worn and tired. You're not still brooding about that girl, are you?
Gerard
No, Mabel. As you said a month ago, that's all over.
Herbert Poole
I'm so glad. But you. You do look worn out.
Rocky Jordan
Now.
Herbert Poole
I'm sure you're working too hard. You need a change. I know what. We'll take a trip to the Caribbean. Isn't that a grand idea?
Gerard
I guess so. Anything you say.
Herbert Poole
Good. And we'll find a small boat and sail among the islands. Now I'll make a confession. I've already made our travel arrangements for two full weeks. We leave this Saturday. Can you manage that, dear?
Gerard
Yes, I guess so.
Alice Holt
Herbert, what do you want?
Gerard
My desk, our spare door key. I mislaid mine somewhere.
Herbert Poole
Well, don't meddle. I'll find it for you.
Gerard
Oh, never mind. I've got it. Right. Ava, what's this?
Herbert Poole
Give me that.
Gerard
Wait, wait. Envelope from Alice addressed to you.
Herbert Poole
Herbert, I beg you to put that back.
Gerard
Not before I see what's in it.
Herbert Poole
Very well, but I warned you.
Gerard
It's the check you sent to Alice, torn in half.
Herbert Poole
Yes, Herbert. She mailed it back the next day.
Rocky Jordan
And you didn't tell me about it.
Herbert Poole
Why?
Gerard
Oh, my arm.
Herbert Poole
I didn't tell you because you said it was all over and I thought it was best for all of us.
Gerard
You thought it best, did you?
Rocky Jordan
Herbert.
Alice Holt
Herbert, who are you calling?
Gerard
Just listen and you'll find out. Alice, this is Herbert.
Rocky Jordan
No, wait, please. Please hear what I have to say.
Gerard
I've just found the check that you returned to my wife. No, no. I knew nothing about your sending it back until a moment ago.
Rocky Jordan
No, Alice, listen.
Gerard
I want you to meet me at Malvo's at noon.
Rocky Jordan
Will you do that?
Gerard
Wonderful.
Del Monte Announcer
We have a great deal to say.
Gerard
To each other, so please don't keep me waiting. Thank you, darling. I love you, too. Till noon.
Herbert Poole
Herbert. Herbert.
Alice Holt
Oh.
Herbert Poole
What shall I do?
Gerard
Nothing. Except cancel that trip to the Caribbean. Goodbye.
Herbert Poole
Wait.
Gerard
Oh.
Herbert Poole
Don't you see what a fool you're making of yourself? You're acting like a child.
Gerard
No, Mabel. For once, I'm acting like a man.
Rocky Jordan
Oh.
Alice Holt
Taxi driver, are you free?
Rocky Jordan
Sorry, lady, I'm off duty. I just parked here to get some lunch.
Alice Holt
Oh, dear, I'm late for an appointment.
Rocky Jordan
You'll never make any appointment if you stand out there in all that traffic.
Alice Holt
But I've got to find a taxi.
Del Monte Announcer
Take it easy. You will.
Rocky Jordan
Hey. Hey, Watch it. Hey. Well, you see? I told you, boy.
Del Monte Announcer
Another dopey female driver.
Rocky Jordan
You almost got run over.
Alice Holt
But I know that woman. She meant to run me down. I'm still shaking all over her. But look at my hands.
Gerard
Alice, are you absolutely. It was Mabel at the wheel of that car.
Alice Holt
I've never forgotten her face. It's been in my mind ever since that day she came to the door and threatened me. Herbert, I'm frightened. What shall I do?
Herbert Poole
Tell me.
Gerard
Just be very careful, darling. Careful and cautious.
Alice Holt
What are you going to do about her? Tell the police she tried to kill me.
Rocky Jordan
Herbert.
Gerard
Hmm? Oh, excuse Me? I was thinking about what I should do. No, no, I won't go to the police. Police? Yet. Why not? Because it would take time, and I have to go away for a while.
Herbert Poole
Go away?
Rocky Jordan
Oh, no.
Gerard
I'm sorry, but it's urgent business that can't be postponed.
Alice Holt
How long will you be gone?
Gerard
Two weeks.
Alice Holt
Take me with you.
Gerard
I wish I could, darling, but it would be awkward. I'm not going to be alone on this trip.
Alice Holt
But I'll be terrified every minute.
Gerard
I know, sweetheart. Try not to be. I promise you that while I'm away, you won't be in any danger from my wife.
Herbert Poole
Herbert, is that you?
Gerard
Yes, Mabel.
Herbert Poole
Oh, I'm glad. I wasn't certain whether you'd come home or not.
Gerard
Well, I'm here. By the way, did you have the car out today?
Herbert Poole
Yes. Why do you ask?
Gerard
No reason. I thought the motor needed tuning, that's all.
Mrs. Grotman
Oh.
Alice Holt
Bell.
Herbert Poole
Herbert. What did she say?
Gerard
She didn't keep our appointment. I waited an hour, but she never came.
Herbert Poole
But didn't you telephone her?
Rocky Jordan
No.
Gerard
I decided she wasn't worth it.
Herbert Poole
Oh, Herbert. Oh, do you really mean that?
Gerard
Yes. You were right, Mabel. I acted like a child this morning and I made a fool of myself. But now it's all over and done with forever.
Herbert Poole
Oh, I'm so glad.
Gerard
Mabel, have I a right to ask you to forgive me?
Herbert Poole
Every right in the world. You're my husband. Herbert.
Gerard
I think it's time we had a second honeymoon. Mabel, I hope you haven't cancelled that trip to the Caribbean.
Herbert Poole
Well, no. No, I haven't.
Rocky Jordan
Are we going this Saturday?
Herbert Poole
Oh, Herbert, how lovely.
Gerard
It'll be just as you planned it, Mabel. We'll find a small boat and sail among the islands. I want to get away from everything and everybody. But.
Herbert Poole
Look behind you, Herbert. The island where we picnic's almost out of sight.
Gerard
Yes, this little boat skims right along, doesn't she?
Herbert Poole
Like a breeze. Oh, it's glorious to see you looking so bronzed and so happy.
Gerard
Too bad you don't know how to handle a boat. You miss most of the fun. You better duck your head under the boom. I'm coming about.
Herbert Poole
All right. Well, we're not heading back to land so soon, are we, dear?
Gerard
Oh, we're in no hurry. Hey, look what just settled on the water astern of us.
Herbert Poole
Huh? Oh. What are they, Herbert? Seagulls.
Gerard
Oh, pelicans. Where the deuce did I put my binoculars?
Herbert Poole
I have no idea. Oh, there they are, up in the bow.
Gerard
Walk forward and fetch them, will you? I'D like to get a closer look at those birds.
Herbert Poole
All right. Hold the tiller steady. I'm not used to walking around the sailboat.
Gerard
No, I guess not. So look out for the swinging boom, you sea witch. I'm coming. Hello, this is Mr. Poole in room 751 of the hotel. I'd like to send a radiogram, please, as it's going. To Mrs. Alice Holt, 2730 Charles Place, New York City. Yes, that's right. Are you ready? Okay, here's the message. Mabel is missing and probably drowned. I am heartbroken and cannot bear to stay here a moment longer than necessary. Will fly home as soon as possible and try to start a new life without her. Will advise you when to meet me at airport. Cannot stand to be alone. Signed, Herbert. Yes, that's all. Thanks.
Del Monte Announcer
Coming, Porter?
Gerard
Coming.
Herbert Poole
Oh, darling, thank goodness you're here. April.
Rocky Jordan
Good afternoon, sir.
Gerard
Huh?
Herbert Poole
Oh, Herbert. This nice gentleman is Constable Harris of the harbor police.
Rocky Jordan
Police? Yes, Mr. Poole.
Del Monte Announcer
Your wife has had a rather narrow squeak, I'm afraid.
Gerard
What do you mean?
Herbert Poole
It was the most ghastly experience, darling. You see, I went swimming alone and got drawn out by the tide. I must have swum for hours. And if Constable Harris hadn't chugged along and picked me up, I couldn't have lasted much longer. Could I, Constable?
Del Monte Announcer
No, I'm afraid not. But as they say, all's well that ends well.
Rocky Jordan
Hey, Mr. Poole.
Gerard
Yes, yes.
Herbert Poole
And now I must give the constable his raincoat back and get out of this damp bathing suit. There you are. And I can't begin to tell you how very, very grateful I am.
Gerard
Not at all, Mrs. Poole.
Del Monte Announcer
I was delighted to be of service.
Rocky Jordan
But I must be getting along.
Del Monte Announcer
Good afternoon to you both.
Herbert Poole
Goodbye, Constable, and heaven bless you. Lovely man, isn't he, dear? I wish our police were that courteous.
Gerard
Mabel, why did you lie for me?
Herbert Poole
Because I love you, Herbert. What better reason could I possibly have? And why else would I be willing to forgive you?
Gerard
I see. So what do we do now?
Herbert Poole
Well, after my nearly fatal accident, I think I'd like to pack up and go home. Am I being a naughty girl for cutting your vacation short?
Gerard
No, Mabel. I'll do anything you say. From now on, it'll be anything you say.
Herbert Poole
Thank you, darling. I knew you'd see it my way.

Podcast Summary: The Relic Radio Show – "Rocky Jordan and Theater Five"
Release Date: May 6, 2025
The Relic Radio Show, hosted by RelicRadio.com, delves into the rich tapestry of old-time radio dramas, resurrecting beloved audio artifacts from radio's golden age. In the episode titled "Rocky Jordan and Theater Five," listeners are transported to the enigmatic streets of Cairo, where the titular character, Rocky Jordan, navigates a labyrinth of mystery, murder, and intrigue. This episode intertwines two captivating stories: "An Air of Death" by Rocky Jordan and "Greener Pastures" presented by Theater Five.
The episode kicks off with Rocky Jordan recounting a chilling incident:
Rocky Jordan [02:43]: "It all started with a door that wouldn't come full open and a hiss of steam."
Rocky and his associate, Stefan Mailer, discover the lifeless body of Emil Grotman in Hassan's steam room. The room is saturated with cyanide vapor, evident from the lingering smell of burnt almonds.
Captain Sam Sabaya [03:12]: "When you see a dead guy and smell burnt almonds in the air, what do you think of."
Rocky Jordan [03:17]: "Cyanide vapor. And Hassan's steam room's full of it."
Captain Sam Sabaya swiftly mobilizes to secure the scene and gather evidence. Emil Grotman, a small tobacco shop owner in the Caliph Arcade, becomes the central figure of the investigation. Rocky provides Captain Sam with a list of individuals who were present in the steam room, including Hassan and other patrons.
Rocky Jordan [03:43]: "I shall prepare a list for you immediately."
During their investigation, a water bottle containing acid is discovered, indicating the method used to release the deadly cyanide gas.
Rocky Jordan [03:52]: "Looks like this is what made the cyanide gas."
Rocky and Captain Sam visit Mrs. Grotman's tobacco shop to inform her of her husband's demise. Mrs. Grotman's indifferent demeanor raises suspicions.
Rocky Jordan [06:13]: "You didn't leave a good impression with Sam, Mrs. Grotman. News like Sam gave you usually ends up in tears."
Her lack of visible emotion and her relationship with her daughter, Anna, add layers to the mystery.
That evening, Anna Grotman seeks answers from Rocky about her father's untimely death.
Anna Grotman [07:25]: "Please, Mr. Jordan, why was my daddy killed?"
Rocky's investigation uncovers that Anna's stepmother, Mrs. Grotman, had no affection for Emil and may have had motives tied to the opium smuggling operation running through the tobacco shop.
Rocky discovers a package containing opium, indicating that Emil's shop was a front for narcotics smuggling. Joseph Schumer, a chemist, identifies the substance as opium, shifting the investigation from simple murder to organized crime.
However, before Rocky can act, the package and Schumer's report vanish, implicating Stefan Mailer—a trusted associate—as a potential suspect.
Rocky Jordan [14:34]: "Your associate from that dreadful incident at Hassan's steam room."
Rocky's pursuit leads him to Stefan Mailer, who is revealed to be Gerard, the individual responsible for the theft and Emil's murder. The confrontation exposes Mailer's involvement in the smuggling ring and his betrayal.
Stefan Mailer [23:58]: "Why'd you kill Grotman? I was buying the narcotics from him."
Rocky unravels the web of deceit, connecting Mailer to the opium distribution network. This revelation clears Mrs. Grotman as the primary suspect, redirecting suspicion back to the smuggling operations.
The investigation culminates at Mrs. Grotman's residence, where she confronts Rocky with a harrowing confession.
Mrs. Grotman [26:27]: "I killed my husband, Emil."
She admits to sabotaging Emil's smuggling operations to protect herself and her daughter, unwittingly leading to Emil's demise.
Rocky Jordan [27:18]: "No, you're not, Mrs. Grotman. You may feel you are, but you're not."
Mrs. Grotman's internal turmoil and ultimate confession bring closure to the case, highlighting themes of protection, guilt, and unintended consequences.
Note: This segment is a separate audio drama presented by Theater Five and is distinct from the Rocky Jordan narrative. As per the summary guidelines, non-content sections like additional storylines are omitted to maintain focus on the primary episode content.
The Relic Radio Show's episode "Rocky Jordan and Theater Five" masterfully intertwines suspense, mystery, and intricate character dynamics to deliver a compelling old-time radio experience. Through Rocky Jordan's keen investigative skills and the unraveling of Mrs. Grotman's moral complexities, listeners are treated to a narrative that not only entertains but also delves deep into human motivations and the shadowy underbelly of smuggling operations in mid-20th century Cairo.
Rocky Jordan [02:43]: "It all started with a door that wouldn't come full open and a hiss of steam."
Captain Sam Sabaya [03:12]: "When you see a dead guy and smell burnt almonds in the air, what do you think of."
Rocky Jordan [03:17]: "Cyanide vapor. And Hassan's steam room's full of it."
Rocky Jordan [06:13]: "You didn't leave a good impression with Sam, Mrs. Grotman. News like Sam gave you usually ends up in tears."
Anna Grotman [07:25]: "Please, Mr. Jordan, why was my daddy killed?"
Rocky Jordan [23:35]: "This whiskey flask. Empty. It doesn't smell like it carried whiskey. Acid, maybe."
Stefan Mailer [23:58]: "Why'd you kill Grotman? I was buying the narcotics from him."
Mrs. Grotman [26:27]: "I killed my husband, Emil."
