The road of shadows created by mark r. Healey a beyond the dark production season 5 episode 2 bad mojo.
Amber
Do you feel that, Daniel? Something's different in the town of Lambert this morning. It's like. I don't know, a weight has been lifted.
Daniel
Yeah, I guess you're right. The sunlight feels a little brighter, doesn't it?
Amber
And the air is less suffocating somehow.
Daniel
I suppose that's what happens when you remove a shadow from the equation. The taint has been dispelled.
Amber
Do you think it's just the two of us who sense this kind of change whenever a shadow is killed? Or do the townspeople feel it too?
Daniel
I think they do, do feel it. Subliminally, at least. Remember Grace back in Oakwood, after we killed Argus? She said she felt something had changed for the better.
Amber
So they feel it, but not as keenly as us. In a strama, most likely. In a way, the two of us are gradually wiping out all of the negative energies in this entire region. All of the bad mojo.
Daniel
Bad mojo. That seems like an odd way to describe it, but hey, if that's what you want to go with, sure.
Amber
So this crusade of ours, it started out as revenge, payback. But in reality, we could be making a real difference to these communities.
Daniel
Oh, there's no doubt about that. Killing the monsters who've been preying on innocent victims all these years. That's a big deal.
Amber
Yeah, but not just that. If the shadows are purveyors of all this negative psychic energy.
Daniel
A bad mojo.
Amber
Knock it off. Anyway, as I was saying. If the shadows are affecting people with all this bad influence. We're not just saving future victims of theirs. We're helping all of the everyday townspeople live happier, more positive lives as well.
Daniel
That kind of thing would be hard to measure. But yeah, I hope that's the case.
Amber
Which makes me wonder about what Rodrick said last night. About the Monarch.
Daniel
We're not bringing that up again, are we?
Amber
I'm just considering our options. And? Well, when you think about what we just discussed. Well, if Rodrik is right. And killing the Monarch does bring about the death of an entire kin. That's a lot of communities that would be changed. We could bring an end to so much human suffering with one single kill.
Daniel
So you're coming around to his way of thinking?
Amber
I don't know if I'd put it that way. But I'm definitely considering it more than I was. And don't forget, the two of us had had the same idea before we'd even met Rodrik.
Daniel
The idea of hunting the Blood Monarch. Sure, we talked about it the night we killed Susan Blake and Ragasu at the farmhouse. But that was before we knew what we were getting ourselves into.
Amber
Getting ourselves into?
Daniel
Yeah. We still have the same problem now as we did then. We have no idea how to find a Monarch, let alone kill it. That's why we decided to go back to hunting the Shadows one by one.
Amber
That's true. But maybe we just gave up too easily. Let's face it, a lot has changed between then and now. We have Rodrick on speed dial for a start. One of the foremost experts on shadows in the world.
Daniel
He doesn't know how to find the Monarch either. In fact, he admitted last night that he can't even track normal shadows as well as you or I.
Amber
But with his knowledge and all of these fellow scholars of his. There might be a chance they can find a way.
Daniel
Sure, there's a chance. But until they come up with something concrete. I don't see any reason to worry about it.
Amber
Maybe we should be taking more of an active role here. You and me, we're pretty kickass research team, right? Look at what we've done in the last few months alone.
Daniel
You think we can Track down a Blood Monarch through research? I doubt there's a book on Earth that can tell us how to do that. No one's ever found one, as far as I know.
Amber
We don't know that for sure. Somewhere, somehow, an intrepid Nostromo may have come up with a way to find a monarch.
Daniel
I just don't think it's a good use of our time. Especially when we have so many known targets we can concentrate on. And Roderick said it himself. We're hurting the kin. Every time we drop another shadow, we're hurting Mother. That seems like a worthwhile endeavor to me.
Amber
No, it is. It is. But maybe the answer doesn't lie on the pages of some ancient tome that may or may not exist. Maybe we can use my visions instead.
Daniel
Do you have a theory on how you would do that? Up until now, you haven't had a lot of control over the visions, have you?
Amber
Not a lot. But they're definitely. What's the word? Evolving. At first, they were only happening in my dreams. And it was Dragisa who was doing the initiation. Now I'm seeing them while I'm awake. And I'm definitely feeling more in control than I was.
Daniel
So you think you could direct your visions to seek out the Blood Monarch, for example?
Amber
Not yet. But given enough time, who knows?
Daniel
Well, until then, I think our best option is to keep doing what we're doing. Hunting down shadows and weakening the kin. If your ability to control the visions keeps improving, some more options might open up to us.
Amber
Sounds fair enough to me. So where is our next target?
Daniel
The town is called Grattan. It's north of Lambert. Shouldn't take too long to get there.
Amber
That's another one on your revenge list, isn't it? You've encountered a shadow there before, I take it.
Daniel
Yeah, I lived there briefly a few years back. I'll tell you all about it on the way. Right now, I'd like to stock up on some supplies, if that's okay with you.
Amber
Yep. There's a store right across the street.
Daniel
Street?
Amber
Let's cross here.
Daniel
Okay. This looks perfect. Do you have a shopping list?
Amber
No list. Not this time.
Daniel
This has gotta be a first. Amber passing up a perfectly good opportunity to make a list.
Amber
Hey, sometimes you've just gotta wing it.
Daniel
I'm down for that. Let's start with those snacks over there.
Amber
Sure. Hey, Daniel. I didn't say this before, but I'm really sorry about your friend. The one who used to live here in Lambert.
Daniel
I didn't really have any friends in Lambert.
Amber
But last night, you were talking about her with the shadow.
Daniel
Oh, you mean Helen. We weren't exactly friends. I only met her that night, five minutes before the shadow jumped her. We had a brief chat after the movie ended, and she asked me how long I'd been in town, told me a little bit about herself, and we went our separate ways.
Amber
Oh. Okay. I see.
Daniel
Is there something wrong?
Amber
No, Not. Not. Not really. It's just that the way you spoke about her last night with so much passion, I. I assumed you were closer than that.
Daniel
Last night was a big deal for me. I won't deny that. But it wasn't because Helen and me were close. It was more to do with the fact that she was a friendly, innocent young woman who was brutally murdered right in front of me. She. She didn't deserve that. And I guess on a more personal level, I still feel guilty that I wasn't able to save her.
Amber
I don't think you're being fair on yourself there, Daniel. You did what any normal person would do in the face of a monster like that.
Daniel
I'm not a normal person.
Amber
You didn't know that back then.
Daniel
Maybe I should have tried standing up to them earlier.
Amber
Listen, you can't change the past. What's done is done. And in the end, you got revenge for Helen. That has to be worth something.
Daniel
Yeah, I guess. Anyway, that's why Lambert means so much to me. This town was my last stop before I arrived in Colton. It was the last place I ever ran from a shadow.
Amber
And now you've set things straight. You don't have to feel guilty about it anymore. Ooh. M and M's. Oh, my God. You have no idea how badly any chocolate right now.
Daniel
I'll take it back, too.
Amber
I guess that's a good idea, because there is no way I'm sharing mine with anyone today. Oh, they have Reese's cups, too. Damn. We really need to get out of this aisle before I blow our entire cash supply.
Daniel
Hey, check it out. Looks like they have a shelf with maps and brochures over there.
Amber
Oh, yeah. You said you needed a new map, didn't you?
Daniel
A couple, actually. Mine have scribbles all over them, and they're practically falling apart.
Amber
Well, if nothing else, it will get me away from the chocolate aisle. Come on. Let's check it out.
Daniel
This is great. Exactly what I was looking for.
Amber
Look at all these brochures. They've got all sorts here. Oh, check this one out. Mosquito Falls. Remember that place?
Daniel
How could I forget? That was the first place we Ever saw one at the Wilted?
Amber
And here's Grattan. That's the next place on our list, right?
Daniel
Take that one with you. It might come in handy. I think these two maps will do nicely. With any luck, they might have some recent updates which will come in handy if we. Amber, Are you okay?
Amber
Holy shit. Look at this.
Daniel
Silverton. I don't think I know it must be one of the few places I've never been through.
Amber
No, no, not the town. Take a look at the picture here. The backdrop. The mountain range. This one right here. That's the one.
Daniel
The one what? Oh, shit. You mean from your vision?
Amber
Yeah, that's it exactly. Just as I saw it.
Daniel
Welcome to Silverton, at the foot of beautiful Mount Sunder.
Amber
Mount Sunder. Yeah, I'm certain that's it. No doubt in my mind this is the place.
Daniel
So what does this mean?
Amber
Well, Daniel, I think it means that the next town on our list. Grattan. It's going to have to wait.

We're running low on gas, haven't seen a station in 20 miles, so I figure it might be a good idea to fill up here.
Amber
Fine with me. Oh, I really need to stretch my legs anyway.
Daniel
I'll be done in a few minutes.
Amber
Take your time. I'm kind of enjoying the ambience out here in the middle of nowhere. It's peaceful. No shadows here.
Daniel
I guess there wouldn't be. There's not enough population to support their appetites here.
Amber
I Don't know about that. I'll bet somewhere out there a shadow has set itself up at a gas station just like this. Think of how quiet and secluded it is. And all of the travelers passing through. It would be so simple to snatch an unwary customer pulling in at the gas station late at night and then dispose of their vehicle in the woods or in that river over there.
Daniel
I still have my doubts they would choose a place like this, but who knows?
Amber
Just be wary of that clerk inside when you pay for the gas. He might try to jump you.
Daniel
He'll get an axe in the face if he does. I'm all done here. Be right back.
Amber
Yep, no problem. Fresh air. Oh, damn.
Daniel
Amber, where are you going?
Amber
Daniel, come see this.
Daniel
What is it? What's going on?
Amber
Look.
Daniel
There.
Amber
See that? The river. I've seen it before. I think it's the one in my vision.
Daniel
Are you sure?
Amber
Yeah. The size, the color of it, the trees along the banks. It all fits.
Daniel
So is this gas station significant somehow? Oh, shit. You don't think that clerk in there really is a shadow, do you?
Amber
No. No, nothing like that. It's the river that's important.
Daniel
Important how? Can you be more specific?
Amber
I don't know. That part is still a little cloudy.
Daniel
Do you think we should go down there, explore the place?
Amber
No, I come this way, around these trees, so we can get a better look.
Daniel
Watch your step on the edge of that incline.
Amber
Okay, now it's starting to make sense. Look there in the distance. Further along the highway. See it?
Daniel
It's a little hazy, but I see some mountains.
Amber
That's it. That's Mount Sunder.
Daniel
Really? Let me check the map. Looks like we're not far from Silverton. It's less than half an hour down the highway, so I guess that must be it. Mount Sunder.
Amber
God, it's so weird seeing it with my own two eyes. This is the first time it's actually felt real, rather than just a figment of my own imagination.
Daniel
So how does this all fit together? The river and the mountain? Are they connected somehow?
Amber
Now that I'm here, I don't feel the river has quite the same significance. In fact, I think maybe the river is just a waypoint, like a marker that's guiding me toward the real destination. It's like a way of saying we're on the right track.
Daniel
Is this like what happened with Christina back in Oakwood? In her diary, she drew the bridge and the forest before Argus, Dennet, Greystone.
Amber
Yeah, that's a good comparison. Maybe the shadow's mental power. What did Rodrick call it? The ether. Maybe that's how it works. Or at least that's how Christina and I both interpreted it.
Daniel
So, should we spend more time here at the river? Do you think it's worth investigating?
Amber
No. No, I think we should keep moving. There. Down the highway. That's our destination.
Daniel
Alright, let's load up and get out of here. With any luck, we'll be there before nightfall. Okay. We made it. Welcome to Silverton.
Amber
Do you feel that? Remember the bat mojo we were talking about earlier? Well, I think this place might be the motherlode.
Daniel
Yeah, I feel it too. So I guess that means we are on the right track after all.
Amber
The shadow here in town, it feels powerful.
Daniel
Yeah, I get that impression.
Amber
And now that we're up close to Mount Sunder, it seems. I don't know, ominous somehow.
Daniel
I can't say it gives me that impression. But I'm not the one having visions about it.
Amber
I really want to get to the bottom of this. I want to know what's up there.
Daniel
Well, this isn't a good time to go exploring. Not with nightfall encroaching. It's going to have to wait. Come on. Let's head into the diner and get something to eat. Then we can start to figure out a plan.
Amber
Do you want another coffee, Danu?
Daniel
No, I'm good, thanks. Would you mind sliding those plates out of the way?
Amber
Sure. What have you got there?
Daniel
I'm just sketching a basic map of the town based on what we've seen so far. The highway, the main street, the diner. There was a motel a couple of blocks back that I thought might be worth checking out, too. Do you think we'll be staying long?
Amber
What? Why are you asking me?
Daniel
Well, since you're the one who had the vision, I figured you might be a little more on top of things.
Amber
Hang on. Let's get one thing straight. This stuff I'm seeing in my head is vague at best. There's not a lot of structure to it at all. In fact, it feels more like a dream than anything. So don't expect me to cuff up a full itinerary or lay out any kind of plan for how we're going to move forward while we're in Silverton. I can't give you that.
Daniel
I'm not expecting you to. But I thought maybe there's something you can tell us now we're here.
Amber
Well, I can try, I guess. Let me see if I can find anything.
Daniel
You're going to try to reach out with Your mind right here in the diner.
Amber
Well, it can't hurt. Maybe now that I'm physically here in town, like you say, it'll come through stronger. Just give me a second here.
Daniel
Take your time.
Amber
All right, let's see. I'm thinking of the river again. Following the twists and turns across the landscape. Now the mountain from the base all the way up and up and up. Nope, nothing coming through but another headache. Oh, maybe I'm the one who needs one more coffee. Do you think you could. Daniel? Shit. Can you hear me, Daniel? I think I. I think I'm hallucinating or something. I'm standing on a street. It's dark, but, yeah, I'm still in Silverton. I can see the mountain in the moonlight. Daniel? Are you there? I don't know if you can hear me or not, but I'm going to keep talking anyway. Okay. I'm walking across the street now. There's a house. It's glowing bright somehow. And the others along the street are all covered in gloom. This one, it stands out like it's calling to me. I'm. I'm going to see what's inside. Okay? It's. Oh, I don't like this place. Something is very wrong here, Daniel. I wish I could show it to you. I'm going inside now. The interior is. Well, nothing like the outside. It's much darker. And I feel like there's something waiting for me. There's some. There's something behind this door. I don't know if I should. Screw it.
Daniel
Here we go.
Amber
How dare you invade my sanctuary, Filth. I'll tear out your soul.
Daniel
Amber, are you okay?
Amber
What the hell?
Daniel
What happened? Look like you blacked out for a second there.
Amber
Yeah, I, I, I had another vision.
Daniel
Just a second. Let me pick up these broken plates.
Amber
I'm so sorry.
Daniel
It's okay. The server's coming.
Amber
Everything okay? Here, I'll just clean that up for you. Thank you. Thank you. I, I am so sorry about this. No problem.
Daniel
Amber, you're shaking. Here, take my hand.
Amber
Oh, man, that was wild.
Daniel
What happened? Was it another vision?
Amber
Oh, yeah. This one. It hit me like a bucket of ice water right in the face.
Daniel
Was it the mountain again?
Amber
The mountain was there in the background, yes. But this, this was way more than just a mountain. I mean, Holy shit. I saw her, Daniel. Dragisa. She lives here in Silverton. This is her town.
Daniel
Dragisa? Are you sure?
Amber
Yeah. That's what we felt when we arrived here in town. That. That presence. Silverton is the domain of one of the highest ranking shadows in the entire kin. And what's more, I know where she lives.
Daniel
Are you shitting me?
Amber
I am not shitting you. I saw the street. I saw the house and her inside it. I can get us there, Daniel. I can take us right to her den.
