We begin meditating on the words of the prayers as we pray our decades of the Rosary. Fr. Mark-Mary encourages us to focus on the words of the Our Father, recalling the gift of this prayer that Jesus gave to his disciples in Matthew 6:9. In these words, we sit with Jesus as he teaches us to pray, leading us to the Father. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Annunciation and the Visitation, and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary. For the complete prayer plan, visit https://ascensionpress.com/riy.

Today we will be praying with the first and second Joyful Mysteries, the Annunciation and the Visitation. So the last 10 episodes we were practicing the relational component of our prayer, particularly practicing having some experience with focusing on the Trinity, one of the persons of the Trinity, and then praying with Our Lady. For these next five episodes, what we're going to do is shift focus to the words of the prayer. So we're just going to practice really praying with and paying attention to the words of the prayers while praying the Rosary. And again as we're praying the Rosary, we're trying to really pay attention, to raise our minds and hearts to like the person, the one to whom we are praying, to focus on the words themselves and then lastly the Mystery. So today and for the next five episodes we're just going to be praying a little bit more slowly, really trying.

Podcast Summary: Day 219 - "The Gift of Prayer"
The Rosary in a Year is a transformative podcast hosted by Fr. Mark-Mary Ames of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. On Day 219, titled "The Gift of Prayer," released on August 7, 2025, Fr. Mark-Mary guides listeners through a deeply meditative and reflective session focused on enhancing the prayer experience through mindful recitation of the Rosary's Joyful Mysteries.
In the opening segment of the episode, Fr. Mark-Mary sets the stage for the day's prayer focus. He emphasizes the significance of building a daily prayer habit and fostering a profound relationship with Jesus and Mary. He introduces the episode's aim to deepen listeners' engagement with the Rosary by concentrating on the words of the prayers themselves.
"For these next five episodes, what we're going to do is shift focus to the words of the prayer. So we're just going to practice really paying attention to the words of the prayers while praying the Rosary."
— Fr. Mark-Mary Ames [01:00]
Fr. Mark-Mary outlines the episode's primary objective: to encourage a slower, more intentional prayer pace that allows for a deeper connection with each prayer's meaning. He highlights the importance of understanding the prayers' words to fully embrace their spiritual beauty and grace.
"We're just going to practice really praying with and paying attention to the words of the prayers while praying the Rosary."
— Fr. Mark-Mary Ames [01:00]
He references the Biblical foundation of the Rosary by citing Jesus' instructions from the Sermon on the Mount, urging listeners to internalize and meditate on the significance of the "Our Father."
"Focusing on the words that Jesus gives us in Matthew 6:9 on the Sermon on the Mount in response to the disciples request to learn how to pray."
— Fr. Mark-Mary Ames [02:14]
The episode proceeds with the recitation of prayers associated with the first Joyful Mystery, the Annunciation. Fr. Mark-Mary leads the listeners through the "Our Father," ten "Hail Marys," "Glory Be," and the "Fatima Prayer," maintaining a contemplative atmosphere throughout.
Our Father
Fr. Mark-Mary introduces the prayer, grounding it in its Biblical origin.
Hail Mary
Recited ten times, each "Hail Mary" serves as a meditation on Mary's role and grace.
Glory Be
A short doxology praising the Holy Trinity.
Fatima Prayer
A plea for mercy and salvation, emphasizing the need for divine intervention.
"In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."
— Fr. Mark-Mary Ames [02:35]
"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women..."
— Recurring throughout the Rosary recitation
While the transcript primarily captures the recitation of prayers, Fr. Mark-Mary's guidance encourages listeners to engage in meditative practices such as visio divina (meditation with sacred art), lectio divina (scriptural meditation), and reflections on saintly writings. These practices are designed to enrich the prayer experience, making it more interactive and deeply personal.
"You’ll find all the daily readings from Scripture, saint reflections and beautiful images of the sacred art we’ll be reflecting on."
— Fr. Mark-Mary Ames [01:00]
Following the completion of the first Joyful Mystery, the session transitions seamlessly into the second Joyful Mystery, the Visitation. Fr. Mark-Mary continues to guide the listeners through the same structured prayer format, maintaining focus on the contemplative understanding of each prayer's words.
"The second joyful Mystery is the Visitation. [...] we're going to be praying a little bit more slowly, really trying to extract the full grace, the full meaning, the full beauty of the prayers."
— Fr. Mark-Mary Ames [07:00]
Throughout the episode, Fr. Mark-Mary emphasizes the importance of raising one's mind and heart to the person to whom they are praying. By concentrating on the prayers' words and the corresponding Mysteries, listeners are encouraged to deepen their spiritual connection and allow the Rosary to become a living source of grace.
"As we're praying the Rosary, we're trying to really pay attention, to raise our minds and hearts to like the person, the one to whom we are praying, to focus on the words themselves and then lastly the Mystery."
— Fr. Mark-Mary Ames [01:00]
In the closing moments, Fr. Mark-Mary thanks the listeners for their participation and anticipates continuing the prayer journey in the next episode. He reiterates the devotional nature of the Rosary and its capacity to transform one's spiritual life.
