Cho Menardi
Chloe, congratulations. I have been waiting and saving up my best congratulations voice for this very moment and for our conversations. I can't even. I was like, I could text her, but I know her phone is like a vibrating monster right now. I'm so. I. I can't even. I have some inkling as to what the last 24 hours have been like, but, like, it is a true. It's a truly crazy 24 hours, but congratulations.
Chloe Marle
It's like your birthday but times 100.
Cho Menardi
It's just literally like, I opened my Instagram and I saw your. Your post. I was like, oh, my God. She's probably. The phone is just going nuts right now. She can't even keep up. It must be so bewildering.
Chloe Marle
It was. I've gotten very nice messages, though, from everyone. From my dry cleaner saying he hopes I'll have more clothes. To people from high school saying.
Evony Frausto
That.
Chloe Marle
They want to be my Emily and want to bring me the book every night. I was like, what is happening? But it's been lovely. It's been so nice to be at.
Chelsea Daniel
The office with everyone.
Chloe Marle
Jose took a very funny picture of me with my flower shop that has become my office, which is lovely and a delight.
Cho Menardi
Well, I am so honored to be talking to the new head of editorial, content and American Vogue, my dear friend and colleague, Chloe Marle. Sorry to keep.
Chloe Marle
I like that. It's like a game show present.
Cho Menardi
Sorry, I thought I had to give you the official intro just in case anyone who's been living under a rock doesn't know what happened yesterday.
Chloe Marle
It's been a very fun but chaotic 48 hours. The news obviously leaked on Sunday. It was at the moment that I brought Lloyd into Central park for my New York Times photo shoot. He was unceremoniously cut from the coverage, which will never be forgotten or forgiven. Poor Jill Weiskopf, who joined me. While Jill was holding Lloyd, he ate a chicken bone. So we had to, like, pry that out of his mouth during the shoot. I mean, there was some really unglamorous BTs of this process.
Evony Frausto
Oh, my God.
Cho Menardi
I knew there would be some interesting behind the scenes, and I'm not disappointed in any way.
Chloe Marle
Thank you very much, Choma. I'm very excited. It's been a big two days, and off we go. We had our kindergarten orientation picnic for Arthur's new school yesterday afternoon. And yesterday morning, when I was like, the news was about to happen, I was like, artie, don't forget. Like, we have the picnic this afternoon, and you're gonna meet all your New friends from kindergarten. And he goes, the picnic. It's today. I was like, yeah. He goes, it's showtime. And I was like, well, there you go. That's both of us. It was a showtime day for both of. This is the run through. I'm Chloe Mao.
Cho Menardi
And I'm Cho Menardi. And we have an exciting episode today because we have so much to unpack. I don't even know if we're going.
Radhika Seth
To fit it in at the time that we have.
Cho Menardi
But we have my lovely colleague Riddika Seth, who's British Vogue's film and culture editor, and she is here to chat about everything she's seen at Venice. And we have a lot to unpack because I was also at Venice for a hot second, brief 48 hours. A very chic 48 hours. And we saw some of the same films. And I think we have very different.
Chloe Marle
Opinions about one film in particular.
Cho Menardi
Yes. This is gonna get controversial. This is gonna get really controversial.
Chloe Marle
I like the warning, the controversy warning.
Cho Menardi
But we can get to that later because we'll also be hearing from celebrity hairstylist, the amazing Evony Frasto, who came and chatted in the studio with Arden Fanning Andrews, who is Vogue's beau editor at large, and Kiana Marden, who is Vogue's senior beauty shopping writer about everything and anything. Behind his work with Sabrina Carpenter. He is kind of the. Known as the wig maestro. I think he's like the best wig guy in town. So I'm very excited for that combo.
Chloe Marle
And does a lot of Fashion Week work.
Cho Menardi
No, Yeah. I think he's known for. I mean, he did Bella Hadid's many hair transformations, all of her amazing. Many of which were obviously wigs, because he works really well with wigs. And actually I worked with him on a cover for Florence Pugh. So he's everybody's secret weapon when it comes to hair.
Chloe Marle
Everyone's been talking about man's best friend Sabrina Carpenter's new album, and her hair looks so fabulous on the COVID And Evony did that. And it feels like his name is on everyone's lips, especially as we roll into New York Fashion Week and all of Fashion Month, where he is very present. But first, Radika, I'm so excited to talk about Venice. I want to hear everything.
Radhika Seth
Yes, Venice. So Chiom and I were actually both there this year, which is amazing.
Cho Menardi
We were passing speedboats in the night, weren't we? So I was there for the opening night, which was. It opened with Paolo Sorrentino's new movie La Grazia, which has three mentions of a Vogue editor in it, actually.
Chloe Marle
It does. Interesting.
Cho Menardi
Yes. And actually Fran Ragazzi, our lovely Francesca Ragazzi, who is the head of editorial content at Vogue Italy. I texted her and I was like, did you know about this? And she was like, yes. Paolo called me to let me know that there would be mention of a Vogue editor in the piece. It's actually referencing a real life Vogue story because there was a. Basically, the movie centers on an Italian president. So a lot of the. A lot of the narrative is kind of loosely based on some real life events, one of which was a story that they got a big political scoop in Italian Vogue. So it kind of references that.
Chloe Marle
Choma. I was extremely invested in your outfit that you posted that you were wearing. It was so glamorous. You looked so fabulous. Can you tell me what was happening?
Cho Menardi
I can, I can. I've never gotten so much feedback on a look. It was. It was this beautiful sequin, floral, with a floral motif, dressed by Etro. I wanted to wear an Italian brand, given that it was my first time at Venice Film Festival. And I think it was. It was just kind of really me, because I love it. I love a print, I love some embellishment. I love something a little bit romantic. And it fit just so well. And me and Sam Sussman, who is Vogue's head of global, head of social, took a photo together, and I've never gotten so many great comments. People were blowing up my DMs about that dress.
Chloe Marle
Oh, my God. I saw it and gasped.
Cho Menardi
So, yeah, so it was a fun one to wear to opening night. And it was a good way to kick off, really. I mean, I have to say I haven't been to Cannes, but I already prefer Venice.
Chloe Marle
Venice does seem to have a bit more romance.
Arden Fanning Andrews
It does.
Cho Menardi
The sea arrival, the way that, like, you know, coming in on a speedboat.
Radhika Seth
I would say I think Cannes is the better festival, but I think Venice is like, the better city and it's like a better time because the food's really good and there is, like a romance, definitely of like, your commute in the morning is like getting a boat 20 minutes across the water. That's, like very, very glamorous. So I think I prefer Venice city, definitely, but they're both very different. I think the films tend to be, like, slightly better at Cannes, but they're pretty comparable, I guess, in terms of qual.
Cho Menardi
What did you think of the movies? I have to. We must start, though, with the only other movie I saw which was Begonia.
Radhika Seth
Yes.
Cho Menardi
Which I did not enjoy.
Radhika Seth
Talk to me Choma.
Cho Menardi
Well, I think Emma Stone and Jesse Flemings were amazing and they're incredible actors and I think the premise of the film was interesting and I know it's based on. It's a remake of a.
Radhika Seth
A 2003, like South Korean film.
Cho Menardi
Right? But. And so basically this, the. The premise is that this very high powered CEO is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists who believe that she's an alien and then all hell breaks loose. The. The issue I have with this, and it was kind of, kind of came up in Poor Things, was how much violence there is towards Emma Stone.
Chloe Marle
Oh, interesting.
Cho Menardi
Just the amount of torture and I'm.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Just like, does yogis like women?
Cho Menardi
Because there is so much kind of like torture. There was a little bit a kind of really degrading stuff in Poor Things. There was a lot of degrading stuff in Poor Things. But this is like, you're literally watching her being. At one point she's electrocuted.
Radhika Seth
That scene is really disturbing.
Cho Menardi
That scene. I literally was like, okay, I'm gonna get out and leave. I can't do this.
Chloe Marle
Did you leave?
Cho Menardi
I just was like, I had to look down and I was sitting next to my colleague Sam and we were both like holding onto each other, being like, I can't handle this anymore. It's a fantastically acted. I think it's a really. I'm sure it'll push a lot of people's buttons. It pushed mine. I mean, a lot of people are saying it's like, fantastic. And I think maybe you're one of those people.
Radhika Seth
I enjoyed it. I think it's like, I think he has a very, like. I hear what you're saying to him. I think he has a very, like, cruel and quite messed up, like, sense of humour. And I did. I found that it got too dark. It was really, really dark. And I think it's the kind of humor that really works for me. But I hear that it doesn't work for a lot of people. Like, I love Poor Things. I liked kinds of Kindness, like, less, but I think this is more like a kinds of Kindness kind of space. I'm not sure if you saw that one Chioma, but I wouldn't recommend it to.
Cho Menardi
Yeah, I liked the lobster. Did he do the. Am I right?
Radhika Seth
Yeah, yeah, he did. I like.
Cho Menardi
But then he just lost me after that. I was just like, yeah.
Radhika Seth
I think he had a phase of making more like Hollywood adjacent things. And this is back to his, like, weird stuff and it's not true. Yeah, I mean, I think it is. I think you're right in that it's like quite an acquired taste. It wasn't my favorite film in the festival. I'm a big, like Yorgos Stan. So I was going in, like, expecting to love it. I did really enjoy it. It's got some really wild twists. The ending, we won't spoil the ending really was.
Cho Menardi
I was just like, then everything is po. Like, forget it. Like, I'm just like, okay.
Radhika Seth
Anyway, yeah, it's one to think about. I would say so. Yeah, I think it wasn't my favorite, but I did like it. But I also hear the mixed reception around it. I understand.
Cho Menardi
We need more about the movies.
Chloe Marle
We need more about movies.
Radhika Seth
I actually saw my favorite film of the festival just earlier today, which is really great timing to talk to you guys about it. And also, I think this festival, I beat my, like, personal festival record of, like, number of films, which is.
Chloe Marle
Oh, my God. Tell us, what is your record?
Radhika Seth
So I'm on 22 right now, which is pretty.
Cho Menardi
How many is that a day? Oh, my God.
Radhika Seth
My first few days. I saw six on both days. Or maybe was it five or six on the first day?
Chloe Marle
Radhika, that's insane.
Radhika Seth
But the thing I saw today that was amazing is kind of worth telling you guys about. It's this film called the Voice of Hindra Job. And it's quite a serious film. It's basically by this Tunisian director called Kaufa Ben Hanier. She made this film called Four Daughters a couple of years ago, which I loved, which was amazing. And this film is based on a true story of a little. She's six years old who was caught in a car in Gaza. And the car was under fire, basically. And it's really an interesting film because it uses recordings of her actual voice from emergency calls that were made in the film with the permission of her mother and her family. And then has actors kind of recreate, has actors play characters in this emergency center that are receiving the call. So it's just set in this one center. It's an hour and a half. Unlike a lot of films at Venice, which are incredible. It's a very short film and it was just so, so powerful. It's the best thing I've seen so far. And I just saw it this morning and it's kind of my pick for what will win, hopefully. I think it's so.
Cho Menardi
Fingers crossed. It sounds really powerful.
Radhika Seth
It's really brilliant. But I also wanted to mention Frankenstein as well, which was Kind of, I think, my second favorite at the moment.
Chloe Marle
Oh, interesting.
Radhika Seth
But because we talked about Jacob Elordi and his fashion. He is so good in this film.
Cho Menardi
I bet.
Chloe Marle
I would love to hear it.
Cho Menardi
Yeah, he's a real force to be reckoned with, isn't he?
Radhika Seth
He is. And it's sort of like, I think when I heard, like, Jacob Elordi's playing Frankenstein's monster. You think? Sure. Like, he's so beautiful and he's very tall, and that's, like, correct for it. But he's so, so gorgeous. I was like, okay, let's see. But it's such a moving, like, heartbreaking performance. I was crying, like, come all the way. I know. And you know how rarely I cry.
Cho Menardi
I mean, just for the record, I have sat next to ridicule in a movie theater and sobbed my eyes out. And she was just like, stone Face for this.
Radhika Seth
I wasn't. I was, like, bawling, like, halfway in. There was a point where it broke me halfway in Frankenstein. And then for the rest of the film, I just couldn't handle it at all. But it's like. It's very, like, campy and silly in the way that, like, Guillermo del Toro's films, like, kind of always are. But it just got something in me, and I was just like, wow, this is really, really amazing. So I was really blown over by that one. There's so much good stuff. There's another film that actually really surprised me that I feel like I should mention. It's the new Gus Van Sant film. I don't know if you guys like Gus Van Sant. He's.
Cho Menardi
I haven't thought about him in a while.
Radhika Seth
I know he's been a bit more under the radar, I think. This film is called Dead Man's Wire, and it's sort of like a 70s set, like, kind of crime kind of comedy. It's kind of a thriller, and it's got Dacre Montgomery and Bill Skarsgard. It's a really lovely performance from Colman Domingo as well.
Cho Menardi
Oh, we love Colman.
Chloe Marle
We love Colman. Friend of the pod.
Radhika Seth
This film opens with him as a radio host and his, like, silky voice. And I was like.
Cho Menardi
And he felt he's so charming a.
Chloe Marle
Voice and face for radio.
Radhika Seth
Any film that opens with that, I was like, you've got me. You don't have to do anything else after this. I'm in.
Chloe Marle
I'm in Choma. I need to hear you're best dressed from the festival.
Cho Menardi
Oh, my God. Let me pull up my list. One Moment. Un momento, per favor. This was a really special red carpet for many reasons because so many brands were sort of revealing or hinting at new ideas of what was going. What's to come. Right. It was one of the few places where you saw. You saw new Versace. You saw. Yeah. You saw Daria Vitaly's new Versace, which I kind of really liked on Amanda Seyfried and even. And Julia Roberts, who I did too.
Chloe Marle
I was into that stunt.
Cho Menardi
Same, like very into that stunt. Right. It was really, really cool.
Radhika Seth
The way it happened as well is so good. She just commented on like her stylist Instagram, right. And was like, I'd like this, please. And then was sent it. Like, it's just so, so funny.
Cho Menardi
It was. It was so fab. I really loved it. And I'd like one too, please. Can I get one too, please? Very into that. I thought there was a lot of new. I thought Mia Goth looked great in New Dior. I thought Greta Lee looked great in New Dior. And I always loved Chloe Sevigny. She wore this one look with lace biker shorts. That was Saint Laurent. I thought that was so good. I mean, I could go on and on and on, but I'm not gonna hog the space because I want to hear what you guys thought because those were just a few of my faves.
Radhika Seth
But.
Cho Menardi
And Emma Stone in the. In the. In the first look, which was lv, which was kind of this long silver dress that was gathered in the middle with a little pouf. It was very cute.
Chloe Marle
I thought that Kaia Gerber and Givenchy with Louis Pullman were just really doing Hollywood glamour festival looks.
Cho Menardi
Right.
Chloe Marle
I love a red carpet couple.
Cho Menardi
I like especially when two of her exes are also on the red carpet. Killing it. She better come correct. She's got Austin and Jacob Elordina. Yes. I was there. Yeah. I was like, okay, girl. She was like, we are not missing. She was like, we're still.
Chloe Marle
Shoma is keeping track.
Cho Menardi
I was like, Austin is somewhere weeping and so is Jacob.
Chloe Marle
I also thought Chloe Sevigny looked fantastic at each moment. Was it Saint Laurent, the sort of poof skirted lace one?
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah.
Cho Menardi
It was so good.
Chloe Marle
She just. I like when people look like they're having fun getting dressed up. Like that's what it should be.
Cho Menardi
She always does, doesn't she? She. That is actually like. You're right. That is actually the essence of Chloe. She just looks like she had a ball picking it out. She loves wearing it.
Chloe Marle
I also loved the Margiela debut For Cate Blanchett. I thought she looked fantastic. Oh, it was this great sort of distressed bird feather fringed skirt.
Kiana Martin
Wow.
Chloe Marle
And she looked fabulous. And I liked the Jonathan Anderson Dior skull new new look suit on Greta Lee. I thought it was. The proportions were good. I think the hair was good.
Kiana Martin
She.
Chloe Marle
It felt like a fresh version of what we had always associated with classic Dior.
Radhika Seth
As someone who loves film merch, can I also shout out Julia Roberts's Luca Guadagnino cardigan?
Arden Fanning Andrews
Oh, my God.
Chloe Marle
Oh, my God. Yes, it's true. She loves a gag.
Cho Menardi
Airport style. Yeah, that was a good.
Radhika Seth
She also does love a gag.
Evony Frausto
Yeah.
Cho Menardi
I thought Luca Guadagnino looked good in Dior with the floral suit and the jeans. He looked very cool.
Chloe Marle
I really like Jacob Elordi sticking to his Bottega guns. I loved the intrecciato brogue sort of dress shoes he wore on the red carpet. I thought that was a great subtle Bottega moment.
Cho Menardi
Oh, yeah. Bottega was another debut. And Vicky Cripps in the leather shorts was very cute Bottega too.
Chloe Marle
Yes, Very cute. Thank you. Radhika, we love hearing from you about all things Venice.
Radhika Seth
As ever, thank you so much for having me again. See you soon.
Evony Frausto
Bye.

We'Re also excited to be in the run through studio today. I'm Arden Fanning Andrews, Vogue's beauty editor at large.
Kiana Martin
I'm Kiana Martin, Vogue's senior beauty shopping.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Writer, and we're here with the pop hair queen king Everything cool, Evonie Frausto. Evony, will you introduce yourself?
Evony Frausto
Ooh. Hi. I'm hairstylist Evanie Frausto.
Kiana Martin
We're so happy to have you here.
Evony Frausto
Thanks for having me.
Arden Fanning Andrews
We're so pumped. We've been waiting for this moment because I feel like you and I met for the first time backstage at Colleen Estrada, like, seasons ago when you were doing dressage inspired wigs and, like, braiding them by hand.
Kiana Martin
Yes.
Arden Fanning Andrews
And then you were kind enough whenever Choma had this great idea to do a Barbie transformation.
Kiana Martin
Yes.
Arden Fanning Andrews
You showed up and created a whole wig for me and made. Made the shoot like it was an incredible time. And it also taught me a lot about your work and about just, like, wigs in general, which are so part of culture. I'll run into you backstage and you'll be wearing, like, a cool slipknot shirt at, like, Sandy Lane or something.
Evony Frausto
Yeah, that's very me. Wigs and slipknot.
Arden Fanning Andrews
I just feel like you're, like, the coolest enemy.
Kiana Martin
Yeah, exactly.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Wigs and slipknot. And, you know, we want to hear about a typical week in your life because you're working with a lot of cool clients right now.
Evony Frausto
Wow.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
I mean, it's crazy because so much happens in a week. So literally, like, even thinking back to this week, I was like, like, my brain stops and I'm like, wait, like, what did I do? But, like, for example, I literally just flew back from London and then I leave to LA tomorrow, and it's just always different.
Arden Fanning Andrews
What were you doing in London?
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
Right now? Well, I am working with Sabrina right now. Yes, my queen. I love her. We obsessed with her and her new album, Man's Best Friend is coming out soon.
Arden Fanning Andrews
And you did the hair for the album, Are we right?
Kiana Martin
I did, yes.
Evony Frausto
I did the hair for the album. And we've been doing, like, cute, like, like, promo parties with her and her fans and doing. Clamming her up for that. So, yes, that's where I've been.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Okay. That's what you've been busy with.
Kiana Martin
Our pop star queen Sabrina.
Yeah, exactly.
I feel like, truly, we're obsessed with Sabrina's hair. Like, I feel like she's really, truly known for her hair. Like, you've obviously been instrumental in crafting that. Like, how do you create pop star hair?
Evony Frausto
How do you come up with that?
Kiana Martin
Thank you.
Evony Frausto
I mean, first of all, I feel like there's literally, like, not more of a hard, harder working person than a pop star. Pop stars work so hard, and they work all the time. And with an artist, particularly Sabrina, everything is very, like, thought out, you know? So it always starts with, like, a lot of references. And then it just. She works a lot with her sister, and so they come together.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
With, like, ideas. And then I kind of take their ideas and kind of run it through my hands, basically. Well, first my brain, then my hands, and then we kind of, like, create Sabrina Carpenter's hair. You know what I mean? So it's like taking the inspiration and then tying it in with her. Because with hair, it's like, you can't necessarily do the exact same thing because there's so much to think about. We gotta, like, find out what works for her, for her features, for her texture. And so it really then becomes, like, a very unique hairstyle that is then Sabrina Carpenter.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Totally. And do you remember any of the references that she and her sister were bringing your way for this album cover?
Kiana Martin
Cause it feels very old Hollywood in a lot of ways.
Evony Frausto
Right. This album is coming, like, quickly after Short and Sweet. Right. And so I feel like for Short and Sweet, we really kind of developed a kind of feeling, you know, which is a bit like vintage Y. I feel like there was a lot of Bridget inspo, especially with the bangs, a lot of Claudia Schiffer, a bit of a 90s touch. But for this new album, I feel like it's really taking Sabrina and then kind of evolving it and, like, the evolution of her as well, with, like, the evolution of the music and, like, just the next thing. But I really, truly feel like we've created this, like, signature world ever since I've started working with her. Like, she is the muse, you know? So when I do her hair, it's like I just think of her and, like, how to evolve it.
Kiana Martin
I love that, like, we're seeing her and her look, like, evolve together. That's honestly really cool. What can you tell us about her signature look? That might surprise people.
Evony Frausto
She does her own bangs. No way. Honestly, I like this. It's insane because it's like.
Arden Fanning Andrews
That's the trick. Exactly.
Evony Frausto
I mean, the thing about hair is everyone has Hair. Like, we've all been doing our hair since, you know, kids.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
It is a collaboration. I do do them sometimes, but like, she can really work her bang out and make it look perfect. Sometimes I'm like, babe, take the brush like it's yours.
Kiana Martin
You handle it.
Evony Frausto
She's everything. She's a hairstylist, she's a makeup artist, she's a pop star. Like, she can honestly do it all right.
Arden Fanning Andrews
And she's been working.
Evony Frausto
She's been working and she really knows what, like, looks.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Looks good on itself.
Evony Frausto
And the thing is, like, with me, with my clients, it's like I never have this ego of like, I gotta do it, you know what I mean? It's like I trust my clients. It's like, you know, you and you know what's best. And so it's like, let me like, take a step back and also learn how you do it. You know, I know that you've done.
Arden Fanning Andrews
This for my Barbie wig, but, like, are you handling the cut, the style and the color for your clients too?
Evony Frausto
For some of them, yes. I did some projects with Lady Gaga. I did Die with a Smile, the casual, you know, mother Monster. So with her, you know, it's like a full on character development. So it is a wig, the cut, the color, the style, all of it.
Arden Fanning Andrews
And I love that you're saying this because it's like, that's what we want to be asking is what is a wig? But we are being polite because you've got to tell us. Like, I can't assume, but like, wigs are part of culture in a way that, like, people are talking about them more openly than in our lifetime so far, you know, and so it's like, I'm curious about that. It's like whenever it's a wig, you get to sit with it. It spends the night with you. You're working on it in hours.
Kiana Martin
You get to see it like there, right?
Evony Frausto
Like, it's not just kind of incredible. Honestly, like being able to take all these hours to really perfect. It is like major, you know?
Kiana Martin
How many hours would you say you spend on the wig?
Evony Frausto
I mean, it really depends. I mean, for example, with Die With a Smile, for that hair moment, I was on a call with Gaga and we talked about all these kind of references and there really wasn't one kind of image. She kind of just gave me a breakdown of what she wanted it to kind of evoke. She played the song for me, which I feel like is really important with working with, you know, musicians. And then I went to my studio. And then we literally. I mean, I'm also such an anxious freak when it comes to my work. So it's like, if you ask for one thing, I'm gonna bring you, like, 20. You know what I mean?
Chloe Marle
Yeah.
Kiana Martin
You're gonna have options.
Evony Frausto
Yeah, exactly. And with a lot of clients like that, it's very important to do a hair test. Hair and makeup test. So went to her house and set up this room, and she came in and she was like, whoa. Like, look at this hair room. Because we literally had, like, just all within that same kind of look that we ended up with, but a black one, a blonder one, like, slightly curlier, less curly.
Kiana Martin
That is really amazing. Wait, so what do you do with these wigs after? Do you just have a studio full of wigs and wiping lips?
Arden Fanning Andrews
What's in there?
Kiana Martin
Tell us about the studio. What's the best wig in there?
Evony Frausto
Okay, so to get into specifics, I use mainly human hair, which is amazing because the quality is best. Exactly. And you get to do so many different things with them. But also you can break them down, if that makes sense. So I can make this huge kind of sculptural thing. And then the ones that aren't chosen, I'm able to break it down and brush it out and repurpose it with synthetic. It's kind of like one and done. Because you can only use so much heat and you can only work it so much. So I mean, my studio, I try to keep it as clean as possible, but every. It's giving, like, okay, when you walk in, it's clean. You know what I mean? But if you open a drawer, it's like 10 pack of extensions and, like, three wigs, and then another drawer, and it's falling like wigs falling on you.
Arden Fanning Andrews
What's the most extreme wig that you have stored in your studio right now?
Evony Frausto
Oh, my gosh. The most extreme one I have stored in my studio right now. I think it's mainly the wigs that I use maybe for, like, my personal projects, you know? Cause with having a studio which is so fun, is, like, being able to just create for the sake of creating and doing fun things. So I have, like, a wig that has candles on it and, like, melted wax. I have, like, really long wigs that are, like, fully beaded.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Oh, I.
Evony Frausto
There's really fun stuff.
Kiana Martin
I think we need, like, a wig exhibition or something. Like, I want to.
Evony Frausto
Yeah, we can do a tour sometime.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Okay.
Kiana Martin
I would love nothing more.
Arden Fanning Andrews
We'll be inviting myself over.
Cho Menardi

Kiana Martin
What really strikes me about, I think your work in particular, you have such an amazing breadth of talent. Like, you can do, like, basically every look possible, and it's all gonna be cool, as Arden said. How do you come up with fresh ideas for people? Working with so many amazing people with such, like, an amazing point of view.
Evony Frausto
It really helps to work with people that just, like, truly inspire me. You know what I mean? I think that that's just really it. And I work with really true artists. They will have decks of inspo. They kind of like transcend me into a world that I can then like, pull inspo from and then create, you know, something that will be tailored to them.
Arden Fanning Andrews
I also feel like A's, higher A's. You know what I mean? People want to hang with you because they're like this, like, ebony will help me bring the thing that's kind of floating in my mind into reality in a way that's even better than I could have imagined. With my dozens of references. I think that Diet Pepsi, let's Talk, is a great example. To me, it was one of the most important music videos of the year.
Evony Frausto
That was fun.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Did the hair for Addison Bray. And then, I mean, obviously Ben Platt just covered the song for the Culture awards, proving that it was indeed song of the century. But, like, I've watched the video, like, many times, just being like, la da.
Kiana Martin
Da da da me on my way to work today.
Arden Fanning Andrews
What was that experience like?
Evony Frausto
Well, Mel Ottenberg brought me in, and him and Addison had, like, you know, some references. And I don't know, I felt like it was also. It was her, but it also was a little bit of a character, and we kind of wanted to bring a little bit of sweetness in it. So the texture was truly that kind of, like, softer, like, brushed out, like a little bouncy, kind of innocent. Right. Which is like a kind of a part of the song, I think. And then we did that little side thing with, like, the barrette, which makes it feel even sweeter.
Arden Fanning Andrews
The perfect location of a barrette as well.
Kiana Martin
And also such a smart use of, like, a hair accessory.
Yeah.
I feel like hair accessories are so underrated.
Evony Frausto
They are.
Kiana Martin
I try to do better with myself, but I'm like, I can't see it for myself, so I love when the girls do.
Evony Frausto
Yeah, I love, like, a simple one. Like, that one was, like, the color of. It was kind of like her hair color. It was there. It wasn't too distracting. But then, as we did the video, just, like, watching how it was filmed, we then started introducing, like, there was, like, a lot of scenes where there was, like, a lot of wind, and she was, like, in the car, like, tossing her hair, and she was dancing. And there was this one bit that was, like, incredible where I was, like, blowing her hair. It was crazy. And someone threw an American flag, and my wind just blew it perfectly on her body.
Kiana Martin
Oh, my God.
Evony Frausto
Like, that was, like. You know what I mean?
Arden Fanning Andrews
I love it. You're the one holding the wind.
Cho Menardi
Do you know what I mean?
Arden Fanning Andrews
Like, you have a fan.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
I was like, is this, like, a giant leaf blower or something?
Evony Frausto
Oh, my gosh.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Because you know how to, like, direct.
Evony Frausto
The hair in the most beautiful.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Okay. Yes. That's sculpture, babe.
Kiana Martin
How do you get the hair to move like that? Like, I've never seen hair flow so, like, free.
Evony Frausto
It honestly, is a whole nother skill set that I had to learn, and it really is very, like, planned out. Like, me and my team will bring, like, four giant wind leaf blowers, and then it'll be like, I'm in the front. I'm opening up her face. We need more. So, like, you go from the back and blast it. And our winds will meet and the hair will go up or, like, is.
Arden Fanning Andrews
The news we can get literally, Are.
Evony Frausto
We gonna try on it or something? No.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Okay. Is it rude for me to ask if they're. Because you have your hair by evony line of extensions and wigs. Like, were you using those or, like, any. Is there more than just the hair that one is born with that goes into these shoots whenever someone's.
Kiana Martin
You know what I mean?
Arden Fanning Andrews
I think that's good for our listeners to know.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
I mean, I think, like, a lot of them get extensions, right? Yeah. I think for Addison, for Diet Pepsi, we kind of just used her own hair because we wanted it to feel more real. But, you know, with sab, it's always kind of of switching in and out, like, different kinds of extensions. I feel like that's really my trick to building, like, the different shapes. Yeah, Especially. Cause I've done so many different looks with her. Like the Farrah Fawcett one for Man Child, the really bouncy, tight one for Tour And a lot of it is putting in extensions and giving the extensions a haircut.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
You know? Cause I feel like that's a really important foundation, and it's a great trick if you don't necessarily want to, like, cut your own hair, but give something different. It's like, maybe get some extensions and cut them, you know, and that'll kind of help change the shape of it.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Well, I was like, I still haven't played around with not my own hair, but I am getting lots of content pushed to me where it's just me with $3,000, and it's like, their normal hair, and then, like, me without $3,000, and it's like, body, like extensions. Like, it's like. It's just a reminder that it's, like, real moolah.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
To get.
Evony Frausto
I know what.
Chloe Marle
It's true.
Evony Frausto
And it's funny because, like, people will bring me on projects, and they'll be like, okay, we want, like, 20 wigs. We want, like, extensions of this model. And they're like, what's the quote? And I them the quote when they're like, whoa. And I'm like, babe, just Google how much a wig is online or a pack of extensions, and you'll understand.
Kiana Martin
It's like, you haven't bought a single pack of hair before.
Yeah, exactly.
Evony Frausto
They just don't know.
Kiana Martin
I honestly love that having extensions is a more normal thing these days, because I feel like at some point, it wasn't, like, a thing people talked about.
Arden Fanning Andrews
It was.
Kiana Martin
People didn't want to admit it.
Arden Fanning Andrews
So mysterious.
Kiana Martin
They're like, oh, my hair.
Evony Frausto
It really was.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah. And even when people were getting their bobs, and it's like, people weren't realizing that even when people were chopping their hair like, like above their chin, they still had a ton of extensions to give it that body and give it that. It's the Bob's full of secrets.
Evony Frausto
It is the Bob's full of secrets.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yes.
Evony Frausto
I mean, hair period is always just full of secrets. Truly.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
I feel like, you know, as our pop hair king, you're touching a lot of stars right now. You're being trusted with a lot of their looks. What are some of the. You know, we're sort of thinking about, like, playing a little game and having you break down some of your favorite looks that you've done that we would have been, like, seeing in culture and might not even be knowing to credit you for. Can we hear a few that are.
Evony Frausto
Just like, ooh, like, well, okay.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
I have been working with so many Pop stars, Which is wild, because this is, like, kind of new to me, you know, because the majority of my work was more like fashion.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Fashion king.
Kiana Martin
Yeah, exactly.
Evony Frausto
And then when it rained, it poured. Like, I was like. And I feel, like, lucky and blessed. But let's see. Best hairstyles or just, like, anything here and there.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Am I right?
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
And she's like, your colors, like.
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Evony Frausto
I mean. Okay, let's see. With dua, it's like, it's always, like, kind of this kind of natural, soft bend, like, natural kind of beauty when it comes to the hair. But then she'll also. We've done some moments where it's, like, slicked and, like, very, like, you know, serving face.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah. Cause she's got it.
Evony Frausto
She's got it.
Arden Fanning Andrews
So let's see it.
Evony Frausto
And then I did the apt music video with Rosie from Blackpink. So that's a big deal.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
That was fun. It was fun to do, like, these, like, very specific, like, curls.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Tiny ringlets.
Evony Frausto
Tiny little ringlets. How do you make those ringlets?
Arden Fanning Andrews
Romantasy.
Radhika Seth
What's the secret to them?
Evony Frausto
Ah, the secret to that is, like, the perfect size curling iron, honestly. Okay, so you want to go with a small one, but then it's really about how you either, like, feed it through the barrel or, like, wrap it. It really makes such a difference, you know, whether you wrap it or, like, you go. If that makes sense. Like, there's so much technique here. There really is so much technique. I'm honestly, like, such a freak. Like, I Like, every little movement is gonna. And especially when I did Rosie, for example, there was, like, a moment where I was doing it, like, kind of off her face. I was like, no, like, it has to be, like, right in front of her face.
Kiana Martin
Also, the ones at the front matters the most.
Exactly.
Arden Fanning Andrews
The tendrils.
Evony Frausto
Yeah, the tendrils. The tendrils are. The tendrils will make or break a hairstyle, honestly.
Kiana Martin
You know what this reminds me of when, like, when Sabrina had, like, those, like, really tight coils.
Yeah.
You know, like, it was different than, like, her normal, like, bouncy Hollywood vintage blowout.
Evony Frausto
Well, Sab's natural texture is actually curly. Oh, yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Sab, I love that you went to Sa. Can I say Zach?
Kiana Martin
Can we call her Zach, maybe?
Evony Frausto
No, Serena.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah, text her and check. Text her and check.
Evony Frausto
But yeah, so her natural texture is curly. So it was honestly, this more, like, emphasized version of what she kind of has naturally. But I love that look on her too. She's so cute. She can just pull off everything.
Kiana Martin
I love a mystical girl. Exactly.
Arden Fanning Andrews
You've been working with Rosalia long time. Did her for the mat. What's that like? Because she has a long. She's got a lot to work with.
Kiana Martin
She does, yeah, Yeah.
Evony Frausto
I mean, Rosa is fab. She's fire. She's just like this. I mean, first of all, like, such a huge fan of her music, you know? So incredible.
Kiana Martin
She's another cool girl.
Yeah, another cool girl.
Evony Frausto
When I first met her. I feel like the thing, too, with musicians, it's like they kind of have eras of things, even if they're not, like, drastically different, you know? But when I first met Rosa, she was kind of. We kind of gave, like, more likes. We did this Vogue Italia cover with Harley Weir, and we did a wig, actually, that had, like, a bang and like, that kind of, like, cut. And then it was like this, like, slicked hair with, like, this long braid that I like. Another freak trick. I like attached fishing wire to the end of it. And I was. Oh, my God. Puppeteering it. Yeah. That's like, another one of my famous moves, the puppeteer. People are always so entertained by it. So I end up with all these, like, BTS videos of me in the background going with the hair.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Little braid marionette.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
But that actually made the COVID So the COVID is, like, the braid in the back one.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Another one that we can't possibly miss is you're working with Charli xcx.
Evony Frausto
Yeah, yeah, I've worked with Charli, yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
And that's another. I mean, her hair, it's part of her music. It's part of her lyrics. What are some of the moments that we might recognize that you've worked with Charlie on to create that fantasy?
Evony Frausto
Well, we've done. We've done a couple things. Like, she has this, like, incredible hair texture. It's like these amazing curls, too. Her preference is, like, a little bit flatter on top. So I've worked with that, you know, but then we've done other. She also loves, like, a blowout moment, like, kind of, like a bit straighter. But Charlie. Charlie's. She's fab. She's such a vibe, you know, she's just like, the coolest girl.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Well, I also feel like that's part of your evony magic. Is that, like, for your hairstylist, for your hair artist. Part of the deal is, like, you're spending hours together, even more hours whenever you're on set with them for the rest of the day. And so it's like you want it to be a good hang, and you are like. You know what I mean? Like, you're fun to hang out with. Are there people that you've met during this process that you're just like, yeah, we, like, hang now?
Evony Frausto
It is intimate. There is, I think. I mean, I personally, I take the job so serious, honestly, so, like, I'll be the bestie, but I also try to keep it very professional. You know what I mean? I don't want to cross the line of being too bestie. I like that. But definitely with some clients, with the majority of them will text here and there or send a funny meme or. It's hard to not. I mean, first of all, they're stars because they're just so charismatic, and they're just like. You're just drawn to them. So it's like, it's hard to not really just want to be friends with them, you know?
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah. Who's making you laugh the most whenever you're hanging out?
Evony Frausto
Oh, Sabrina for sure.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Really?
Evony Frausto
Yes. I think she's just so funny. She's so funny. And her humor is very unexpected. It's like, darker humor, and she's hilarious.
Kiana Martin
I love a dark humor girl.
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
And my humor is very dark. So.
Kiana Martin
So, yeah.
Evony Frausto
But she's like. She is like a comedian.
Arden Fanning Andrews
But that's what I was gonna say is like, I think that had she chosen, she could have done stand up, you know, like, she decided to. Exactly.
Evony Frausto
She is, like a trained, professional standup comedian, which I feel like is, like, one of the hardest things to nail. Right.
Kiana Martin
We've talked about so many of, like, the pop star girlies, but, like, you also have, like, the acting girlies, too, like Jenna Ortega. What is the difference between, like, doing looks for a pop star versus as an actress?
Evony Frausto
An actress.
Kiana Martin
Wow.
Evony Frausto
In my experience, I feel. I don't know if it's just, like, the projects I'm getting with the people. I feel like pop stars tend to be a little more creative. But I do feel it might be because I work on music videos, you know, or just developing a world. Whereas, like, with my actress girlies, I worked with Jenna on that Vogue Mexico thing, and I work with, like, Florence Pugh a lot, but I just love making them gorgeous. And, like, it's a lot of events for, like, the movies and stuff, so, you know, it can't be anything too outlandish. Cause hair is, like, okay, hair for, like, an event versus hair for a party versus hair for a carpet or a video. It's, like, also different. You know what I Mean, can you.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Describe sort of what the difference is for the layperson between those things?
Evony Frausto
So, yeah.
Kiana Martin
Okay.
Evony Frausto
I feel like sometimes hair in photo shoots, it doesn't. Sometimes it doesn't read. So a lot of the time, I actually just did this shoot with Sabrina where, like, I had to make her hair so big because the angle was, like, low and so you couldn't really see it. So it was, like, massive, like lioness. And I was like, babe, like, I just want to warn you, it looks amazing in the picture, but when you turn around and look in the mirror, you'd be like, what did you do?
Kiana Martin
Yeah, exactly.
Evony Frausto
Hair For. For a carpet, you gotta make sure it's good.
Kiana Martin
360 for every paparazzi angle.
Evony Frausto
Cause sometimes going back to shoots, you know, there's a little trick, and it's like, don't shoot the back.
Kiana Martin
You got all the pins back there.
Evony Frausto
Don't shoot the back. But, like, the carpet, it's like, they have to be perfect, especially the Met. Like, y' all take 360.
Kiana Martin
Cameras everywhere.
Exactly.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah. Nothing gets by them.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
And then there'll be times for, like. For events or parties. It's like. Think they want to feel part of, like, the environment. So it can't be anything, maybe too big or too. You know what I mean?
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah.
Kiana Martin
More touchable and. Touchable.
Evony Frausto
Exactly. A little more. Like, A little more wearable. It's like the difference of, like, couture versus ready to wear.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Exactly.
Kiana Martin
Do you ever do, like, a look and you're like, yeah, people are gonna eat this up. Like, you know, people are gonna be obsessed with it.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Does that ever feel it when it hits?
Evony Frausto
I can feel it. Yeah, I can feel it. And when I look at my client and I'm just like, oh, my God, like, you're gorgeous.
Kiana Martin
Like, wait, can you give us an example of, like, one of those moments where you just knew?
Evony Frausto
So, okay. With the Dye With a Smile video, like I said, I made, like, 20 wigs. The first one I put on, we were all like, whoa. Like, it just hit. And then we tried all the rest, and then you just wanna go to watch the first. And then Gaga was like, it was that one. And I was like, yes, it was that one.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
And that was the first one you showed her?
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
So you had the first one to.
Evony Frausto
Try the instinct, too? I had the instinct, but, like, Honestly, it's like 50, 50. Sometimes it is incredible. And then sometimes it's like, ooh. Like, that's not what I thought. You know, it's like, when you have a hat in your head and you're like.
Kiana Martin
You put it on.
Evony Frausto
You're like, this is not exactly.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
I want to give you a chance, too, to tell us about your background and how you even got to this place, because this is an aspirational zone that you're just, like, existing in. Right. What brought you here? Where did you start?
Evony Frausto
In, like, the beginning of it.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Yeah. Like, beginning of your career and also, like, the moment that you were born. Yeah. Your birth.
Evony Frausto
It honestly wasn't until I was in it, you know, because you know how everyone has that story of, like, when I was little, I had vogues, and my mom showed me this thing. Like, no, I didn't have that.
Cho Menardi
No, no.
Evony Frausto
So I didn't know this was real. I didn't know this existed. I didn't know. I didn't know vogue existed, honestly, when I was a kid. But once I found out about fashion and Vogue and everything, I was like, wow. Like, this makes sense, you know? And I think that happened when I moved to New York and I really started to, like, learn about the industry and, like, this world. And when I first started doing hair, I thought, like, oh, like, this is, like, quick, easy cash. I'm gonna go to the salon and, like, make some coins. Once I was in New York and then I met, like, my mentors, like, Jimmy Paul, and I was in this world. Like, I was like, wow. Like, this is heaven. Like, this is where I belong, you know?
Arden Fanning Andrews
I love hearing about your mentors, too. Jimmy Paul is, like, such an iconic figure. Yeah. And then who do you feel like, brought you into the fashion fold once you were in that mix? Because it's like, I think of you and Hilary Taymor being, like, real friends.
Evony Frausto
No, honestly, the first person was Bella Hadid.
Kiana Martin
Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Evony Frausto
Because I met her when I was assisting, and she kind of, like, plucked me out of there and was like, like, do my hair and, like, let's do this shoot together. And, like, that was such an era, and it was so much fun and, like, so grateful that, like, she brought me along to all these things.
Arden Fanning Andrews
She did meet on a set one day, and she was like, well, you did a good job.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
I mean, we met on set through Jimmy, but then we have, like, some mutuals. We met through a good friend of mine, Alana, who she's best friends with lil mom Elani Shout. And that, truly, I think, was when I started to work as, like, my own artist.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
What was the moment that you felt, like, was, like, the real turning Point for you, though, like, the real turning point, you know? Like, you kind of go from, like, okay, I'm just kind of doing this, and, like, I'm really enjoying it. This feels like heaven. But then you're like, no, I'm really in it, and, like, this is my career. This is what I'm known for.
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
Well, all this stuff with Bella, of course. But then also, there was this, like, shoot that I did with Kendall, and I felt like that was the only.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Thing I've heard of her.
Kiana Martin
Yes.
Evony Frausto
I love her, but we did this shoot, and it was fire. And I think when I first started doing hair, I was doing, like, really crazy, freaky things, and I was doing, like, humongous wigs. And, like, for this cover with Kendall, we did, like, this wig, and, like, she was such a trooper, like, down to the floor, dragging behind her. Like, it was probably, like, £100 on her head. Oh, my God. And she really, like, worked it out. But to have that moment where I got to be my true, authentic self as an artist and do it with her, that I think was such a. And then the COVID came out, and everyone was kind of gagged. Everyone was gagged. I was gagged. Not just cause of the hair, but because it was beautiful. Campbell Addy shot the pictures. It was gorgeous. The styling was great. And I really feel like that was a moment where I was like, oh, well, I think I'm good.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Things are going well.
Kiana Martin
You're like, what?
Arden Fanning Andrews
Is this real?
Evony Frausto
Yeah, I think this is, like, gonna be a thing.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Well, New York Fashion Week is coming up.
Kiana Martin
Yes.
Arden Fanning Andrews
We're all pumped up.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Arden Fanning Andrews
And it also seems like there's a real energy to it this season. Like, I feel like people are ready for a little Fashion Week moment.
Evony Frausto
It's coming.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Can we look forward to anything from you for this Fashion Week?
Cho Menardi
Will we.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Will we be seeing you backstage any shows?
Evony Frausto
Yeah, I'm doing a couple this year, actually.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Okay.
Evony Frausto
I kind of, like, I did a lot for a minute, and then I think the last couple seasons, I was like, let me, like, tone it down. But this season, I feel like I'm gonna be busy.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Oh, really?
Kiana Martin
So we're seeing a lot of you.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Y.
Evony Frausto
So I'm doing Sandy Liang, which. I love Sandy.
Arden Fanning Andrews
It really is my favorite show every season. It's also. That's a great example of, like, how a soundtrack plays into the fantasy.
Kiana Martin
Oh, yes.
Evony Frausto
Her soundtracks are top. Top.
Arden Fanning Andrews
I listen to after the show. I listen to all year. Do you know what I mean?
Evony Frausto
And Sandy does it herself. Yeah. So she really, like, she can make a good playlist. Yeah. A good soundtrack.
Arden Fanning Andrews
That's a lot. Like, we'll hear a little ag cook on that. We'll hear, like, it's a lot of emerging artists that you're like, mm, right. Needed this.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
But then, like, the nostalgic sounds too. You know, she loves, like, she throws those songs that you're like, oh, wait, that was a vibe. You know, I'm doing graceling. This will be my first time, so it'll be fun. I'm excited, you know, to work with, like, a new designer and kind of, like, be a part of that world. And then I'm doing Campillo, who I love. He's an amazing Mexican designer. And. And, you know, I'm also Mexican, so there's that, like, Mexico pride. And then Laquan Smith. Yeah. So we're gonna be busy this season. That's a year.
Cho Menardi
That's a lot.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Back to back.
Kiana Martin
Yeah.
Evony Frausto
New. So it's a lot of new, like, collabs. So I'm really excited.
Arden Fanning Andrews
Well, Ebony, we're so excited to see you for fashion week. Anyway, we will be lurking your shows and saying hello and getting your quote, and I'm so happy that you got to stop by on your busy in your busiest season to come hang out.
Kiana Martin
No, thank you for making time for us, truly.
Evony Frausto
Thank you guys for having me. It was so fun, all the dishy dishes.
Kiana Martin
I learned so much, let me tell you.
Evony Frausto
Okay. It was a great time.
Chelsea Daniel
