Jessica Zweig
This is the Spiritual Hustler podcast.
Well, hello my beautiful spiritual hustlers and welcome back to the podcast. I'm your host, Jessica Zweig and I am so happy you are here. This podcast is a place where we intersect the conversation on all things spirituality and all the different modalities and practices and beliefs that we can work with to get closer to who we really are. I really believe that this human life is an inside journey. And the deeper we connect to the truth of who we are, our soul's purpose and mission here, the more alive we become and the more successful we become and the more joyful we become because we heal the parts of ourselves that have been sold a lie. That we're not enough. That we're not beautiful enough, powerful enough, strong enough, talented enough and just take back the chips from the Matrix programming and step into our full power. I really believe that's the spiritual practice. And we also talk about what it means to be a hustler, what it means to hustle for meaning over money. How to come from a different vibration of trust and allowance and receptivity in the body while we grow our beautiful businesses and scale our dreams and make a huge fucking difference in the world and make a ton of money along the way. Because we are born to be abundant. That is our birthright and that in and of itself, self is its own inside job.
Tracy Matthews
Right?
Jessica Zweig
And we combine these two elements in service of the divine feminine rising. And this is what I wrote my book, the Light Work really all about came out last year. Reclaim your feminine power. Live your Cosmic truth. Not just your truth, but your cosmic truth. And when you do that, you can't help but illuminate the world. That's the subtitle of the Light Work. And I got to go on this beautiful book tour, podcast tour in 2024, where I was interviewed on over a hundred podcasts. It was quite crazy. It was a whirlwind year, and the best part was getting to drop in with all of these amazing podcast hosts across the industry. And I wanted to bring you some of these conversations here on the Spiritual Hustler podcast feed so that you could get to know these epic, epic women, go follow their podcasts, go get to know their shows, subscribe to their shows, while also in the process learning a little bit more about me, because you're here on this show listening to my story and the message that I get to bring. But what's so cool about these interviews is that these women ask me questions on things that I don't really talk about with my community. And Tracy Matthews, who's host of the podcast Creatives Rule the World, I mean, hello. How true is that? She is a sister of mine. I actually met Tracy years ago at a conference. I had this practice for a while, and I hopefully will get back to it when I have a little bit more time. I've been trying to spend more time at home, rooting in my community here in Nashville and spending time with my husband and dogs and not being on a million airplanes. But I met Tracy nonetheless at a conference that I went to by myself. I enjoy going to conferences alone. I know that sounds crazy, but I like to push through the edge of my own fear and show up by myself and make new connections. And Tracy Matthews was one of the deepest connections I met at this conference in 2019, and we've become sisters ever since. And Tracy, you guys, if you are, you're here listening to my show and you're into this, this kind of conversation, and my Vi, you are going to especially love Tracy because she's magic, she's quantum. She is dope as fuck and so much fun and asked me some really amazing questions. This is one of my absolute favorite conversation I had out of the hundreds I had, you know, in the last couple of years being on podcasts, to be honest, and we just go in a million different directions. She asked me questions that no one really ever have asked me. And this conversation came to life in the most beautiful, unexpected way. And I know that you're going to love getting to know Tracy while you get to know A little bit more about how weird I am, how how crazy this book journey was, but also just the real story behind the story. And Tracy's masterful at bringing that out in her conversations. And we go there, you guys, in this interview. So I wanted to bring it to you as my little gift to you this summer as you float around wherever you may be, and really take this one in, because this is not your typical average interview.
Tracy Matthews
I'll just say that.
Jessica Zweig
So buckle up and enjoy. So, without further ado, here is my incredible conversation on Tracy Matthews podcast.
Tracy Matthews
Creatives rule the world.
Oh, my gosh. I'm so excited to be here with Jessica Zweig.
Yay. I'm so excited to be here with Tracy Matthews.
This is so fun. Okay. I love our story for so many reasons, because Jessica, during the pandemic in 2020, Jessica had her first book come out called BE. I get pitched by her podcast producer scout, who was also pitching me for other podcasts at the time, and she's like, would you mind having this woman on your podcast? And I was like, now, of course, it's about branding. Like, it totally makes sense. And we just, like, totally bonded on that podcast episode. And here we are, four years later, you have another book out. So much has freaking happened. Like, what in the actual. I'll try not to swear.
I swear.
Yeah, let's wear. What's the actual fuck?
What the actual fuck? Can I just say to, like, I remember that first podcast with you vividly. I didn't know you. I was on all these podcasts. I jump on you meet so many hosts, and you. You and I, it was just this sisterhood right away. Yeah. And you really. For people who are listening that don't know Tracy personally, like, you ride hard. Like, you show up for people.
Thank you.
You are so genuinely enthusiastic when other people shine and win, and that is rare. And I have just. I fell in love with you from the minute I met you, and here we are four years later as friends, and I just think that you're golden. You're like a golden soul. So I'm very grateful to be here.
I am so grateful to have you here. You were just, like, one of my favorite people ever. So I'm glad that you're here, and I'm so glad that I got to see you a couple months ago in la. It was so great. We got to catch up and all the things. I'm not great at keeping in touch, like, on the interwebs, but it's. I love seeing people in person and it was just like awesome to see you in person.
So anytime I drop in with you, you're the vibe. You're the best. It's so good. We just.
Should we just do this? The whole thing? Okay, so. Well, tell us what you've been up to. So give, give us a little history and background. I mean, so much has freaking happened in four years.
Yeah, Yeah, a lot has happened in four years. I mean, my first book that I was on your podcast for was based on my. My business Simply Be agency that I started seven and a half years ago. Ran it as a one woman shop. Started it from nothing. It just took off from day one and wrote that book B, which exploded my business. I went from nine employees to 22 employees in less than 11 months, which is insane. And the business just caught fire. And the book was everywhere and so was I. And I, while I was very much in alignment and on purpose with that business for so many years, it wasn't until a year after the book had come out, because I really had been, from the second I started the company, just on a massive sprint, like, growth, growth, growth. Go, go, go. Climb, climb, climb. More, more, more. And the book was sort of the pinnacle of that. The book was like the peak of that. And what happens after any sort of like peak of anything, there's a come down.
Yeah.
And the following year after my book came out, I really, I went through one of the darkest years of my life. I. I reached burnout. Like, real burnout. Not like, oh, I'm tired and I'm not in the mood to do this burnout. Like I was diagnosed with depression and couldn't leave my house shower burnout.
I'm not laughing. I'm laughing because like, I've been it so hard right now.
It's like, I know you are. That's why you and I are friends. And I feel you. And we have such a sisterhood and, you know, we're all on our own trajectories, but I feel like we have to. That's what I love about you is like, you can hold space when someone is shining and I can hold space when someone is, you know, in pain. And that's what sisterhood's about, you know, it's true.
And the cool part about this though, maybe it's not burnout. I'm in reinvention.
Yeah.
Which part of reinvention is burnout? So it's like, okay, like, what's the next thing? Which is it's a lot like I'm laughing so hard because Jessica hosts these amazing luxury retreats. I went to one of them. I think it was a year and.
A half ago, about a year and.
Change a year ago, and it was amazing. It's a personal branding retreat. I loved it. It was in this beautiful place in Nashville called South Hall. Was that what it's called?
Yep.
And Jessica has a process called the hologram. That's what her book B is about. And I redid my hologram like, a million times until I sat down with Jessica. She's like, you're Phoenix Rising. And I was just like, why? Why a phoenix rising? But she's right. I am. And I'm also an eight year in numerology, which is the one where you're always reinventing yourself. And it is not the easy path. I would tell you.
It'S not. And that. I mean, it is. I think we're all constantly reinventing, though, and. And. Or we're afraid to. You know, I. I feel like I reinvented my whole freaking life and rebranded my life and moved cities, sold a business, like, changed everything. And that process is exquisitely painful, actually. But it's human experience. And I think what we're here to ultimately do is just to evolve. Like, we're not meant to stay the same, and we get attached to these businesses, and we get attached to these identities, and we get attached to these brands, and they just. We outgrow them. Yeah, we just do. And sometimes it's. It's especially painful because we, as at a soul level, have outgrown them, but we're still in them, and that's where we get really crunchy and out of alignment and dark and miserable. And that's where I was for quite some time before I sold my business.
So you sold the business to Hawk Media. Congratulations. So exciting.
Thank you. It's been a beautiful journey. I love Hawk. They're amazing partners. And, you know, really, really love Eric, the CEO. Like, we, you know, it was.
Eric's awesome. I know him.
He's the best. And we just. I was ready. This is what I say for anyone listening and, you know, for those that are entrepreneurs interested in ever selling a company, two things have to be in place. This is my experiences. I've only sold one business. I'm not like Mack Lackey who sold, like, eight. But, like, I know, you know, one person, one business. But I learned that two things need to be in place in order for you to sell your company. One, it has to really, truly be a business asset, not a lifestyle business. Like, has it gotten To a place where you as the founder, aren't in it anymore, like. And that, for the record, was something I strived to do and it took me four years to get right with different examples. I remember that junior level employees, senior level employees really does come down to team and process and systems. It has to be a business asset. But you as the founder, have to be really ready to let go and be done and surrender control. And I had just gone through such a stress and, you know, lack of alignment, but I loved my business. I was proud of it. And it had gotten to a place where it didn't need me anymore. And the timing of Hawk calling me up was kind of perfect.
Right.
But it was, you know, seven years of blood, sweat and tears to get there. Yeah, it's great.
Yeah. Amazing though. I mean, look at what you built. So cool. Did they. Did you reach out to them or did they just reach out to you?
No, it's a funny story with Hawk. So they reach out to me in 2020.
Oh, right at the beginning. Right when it was.
Very beginning, yes. Like right before my book launch. They reached out to me, like a few months before my book launch and they were interested in buying me then, and I was like, no, I was still super in love with it. I was like, I'm not ready to sell this thing. And I know I'm going to grow a lot after this book and I want leverage for a better deal. So you can stay in touch with me, but I'm not ready. And I gotta give. I say this all the time. Their head of acquisitions, this guy Josh, he was super persistent and he kept knocking on my door. He kept sending me an email like once a quarter for like two years, like, are you ready? Are you ready? And I was not ready. And then I was. And when I was, I dove in and just kept trusting the process. And six months later, from that final email from Josh, I had sold the company.
It's so great.
Crazy goes so fast. Goes so fast.
Yeah. So now you have your new book. So I remember when we were on retreat, you're like, okay, I'm going to pitch. And one of the sessions was about writing a book and getting it out there self published versus going to a publisher. So you have this new book, different publisher. Yes. Tell us about it. Light work.
So light work. The light work. Yeah. I'm so excited about it. I don't think I've ever been excited about anything as much as this, you know, Whereas my first book, B was like my business in a book this is my soul. Soul in a book.
Your soul in a book? Yeah.
I feel that it's a very different book. You know, I loved writing books. I love being an author. I had a really beautiful experience. As much as it burned me out at the end, I loved launching a book. It's, it's fun. It's, it, it's just so much fun. And I wanted to write this second book, but it was sort of sitting on a shelf because I was so tired and burnt out. And I knew I wanted the word light in it. Like, I wanted that word to be synonymous with what I want to teach women of, like, how to find their light. And I had been through such a dark couple of years that I was like, okay, to live your light takes work. Like the light work. The operative word is the word work. Like you have to journey through the darkest, darkest depths of the human experience to find that light. This is not a spiritual bypassy. Love and light, gratitude is the attitude.
I love that. Love and light.
No, this book is like, really, really rich and deep with some of the most naked, honest, truthful parts of my life that I have elected for some crazy reason to share with the whole world. No, it's like, I gotta tell you the truth. You spend months with it, and then you send it to your publisher and then they edit it and then they send it back. So I hadn't read my own book in like a couple of months, and I had read it on a screen, right. On a document.
So different.
So I get the hard copy. I get my own, like, you know, advanced reader copy in the mail. This was like a month and a half ago. And I'm so excited. I'm like, my book is here and I like, go to bed and I like to read before bed. And I start reading this book in bed, my book, and I'm, I literally started having heart palpitation. I thought I was gonna like, you're like, what did I put in this? Like, I was like, what did you do, Jessica? It's so personal. It's so, it's so revealing.
That is what's gonna make it. That's why, why it's so amazing, though.
I, I, I have.
This is why. This is why we aligned.
Yes.
Because we're not afraid to tell the real real.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's not a sugar coated. This is why I knew that, you know, when I was reading your book, your last book, and I was reading about how you, like, were like, down to like zero money and you had to, I think you borrow money from your dad or something like that?
Yeah.
And, I mean, my parents wouldn't have loaned me money, but at the same time, I was like, oh, my God. This, like, reminds me so much of my journey, too. It's like, hitting this rock bottom point where I was, like, had this thing and then all of a sudden it was gone. And then starting over and having it. Yeah. You're the real deal.
Thank you. I mean, I. I feel like my higher self wrote this book. I channeled it in three months. I didn't use Chat, GPT or Ghostwriter. Nope. Shame if you do, but I didn't. I wrote every word, and it came through me in three months. And I look back on it in certain ways. I'm like, I. I wrote that. Like, where did that come from? How did I know to say that? And I really feel like, you know, back to when I was having my heart. Heart palpitations and freaking out. I went to my altar the next morning. I was, like, having a moment about this, Tracy. I was like, what? I'm so nervous and so scared about this book. I don't. I'm kind of freaking out that I'm publishing this book. And I went to my altar the next morning where I always go, and I close my eyes and I, you know, tune into spirit. And I asked for. I asked for them to guide me, and I heard one of them say, one of my spirit guides. Spirit said, this isn't about you. Your ch. Your job right now is. Your only job now is to get out of the way.
I have the chills.
Get out of the way is what I heard. Get out of the way. And so that's what I'm committing to with this launch. So. Great. Why I do feel so strongly about it now, Like, I want the world to read it because I feel like it's going to help so many women.
So I want to. What I really want to talk about, since this is technically a business podcast, even though I talk about woo shit all the time. Great.
Let's go.
Personal development. You have these spiritual principles that are in the book. Do you want to walk us through those and talk about how they can help us, like, become better leaders?
Yeah. I mean, the book is as woo as it gets, but I. I ground it, you know, because I. I play in the 3D reality really well. Like, I'm a businesswoman at my core, and I love that world, and I love making money, and I love growing and all the things. But I also talk about aliens. And so, I mean, I talk about it all in this book. And, you know, I believe that I'm from another part of the galaxy. I'm Palladian. I identify as a Palladian, which is a star family from the Milky Way galaxy, from which I believe I am from. And they're very. Pleiadians are all. All about leadership, actually. They're all about creating a new world and calling people to a higher order of personal power and freedom and truth and to make this world better, like, to. To really recalibrate the dark into the light. Like, that's what Pleiadians are up to. And it all starts with empowering the human being. And that's what I think I do. I think I empower people. You know, that's what I want to be doing. So I was in Egypt the end of 2022. This is where the book starts. And I won't go into too much detail because I would love for your audience to get the book and really read the. These crazy stories.
Like, this story is so crazy. I know the story, but I'm not going to tell it because, yeah, it's just like, read it in the book.
It's so good in the book. People, you know, who go to Egypt and you have these experiences in these temples and you come home and you tell people about them and they're like, no way. Like, that's impossible. That didn't. That couldn't have happened. That's. You were clearly on drugs. Like, that didn't. No drugs. Completely sober. You have these massive. Spiritual, physical, psychedelic, emotional. You hear things, you see things, your body does things. Like it's. These temples are alive and there's real.
Yeah.
Powerful frequencies in them. So back to your question, the principles. When I was in one of the temples, I got. Just. Let's say I got a download and the Pleiadians spoke to me and they said, you know, Jessica, first. They said. They said a lot of things to me, but one of the main things they said to me was that I had missed the whole point of the human experience, which is to have fun. Like, it sounds trivial, but, like, that's actually what they. They're like, you don't even get it. Like, you're here in a human body and you get to, like, have sex and eat chocolate and kiss your dog and wear cute clothes and build a business that you wanted. Follow purpose around. Like, what a gift it is to be in a human experience. And.
Right.
Enjoy it. Just enjoy it. The second thing they said to me that women leaders are the future, like the feminine frequency is rising, and the women of this planet are here to lead the new Earth, and the world is. The world is about to shift because of the women who are in leadership roles right now. And the third thing they said was the divine laws of light include information, truth, and love, which make up the divine feminine triangle, like, this inverted triangle. And it's also the image of the key on the COVID and those three principles, our information, which is really a synonym for light. Like, light is information. It's the codes, it's the data, it's the things that we have stored in our DNA as much as it's in the stars of, like, vast amount of codes of our. Of our authentic truth. And that's the second. That's the second value. The second principle is to live your truth. Once you turn on the light switch, you stop being a victim to your own life and you find your personal power, and you claim radical responsibility for your one beautiful, precious life. You have that information. You literally light up while you're ready to step forward in your truth. And that's your own authentic, unique blueprint that only you are here to live and you alone, because there's only one you. And the basic building block of the entire universe, and I've learned this in quite a few plant medicine ceremonies, is love. It's love. Like, we're all here to experience, share, know, remember, give, receive, love. And when we build businesses with this full empowered light sovereign identity that the Pleiadians speak of, we live our authentic truth. We are unapologetic for who we are, and we build things for the greater good of the world. Like, we are lightworkers. Like, that's what it means to be a lightworker. And so I think it has everything to do with leadership.
It's amazing.
Thank you.
I'm so excited for this book. Okay, so are. So I know that there's some steps or process, a process that you walk people through. Do you want to talk a little bit more about that?
Every. Yes, every single chapter. Okay. So the book is called the light work, Reclaim your feminine power, Live your cosmic truth, and illuminate the world. And I originally had a different subtitle. It was called an invitation to unlock your infinite power and remember who you really are. This is like insider baseball. I love that. My publisher thought it was too passive. He's like, this. This book starts like an Indiana Jones movie. That's what he said. He's like, there's nothing passive about your book. And so invitation is too Soft. And I was like, okay, fine. But I really love that word because I'm not here to force this on you. I'm not here to assign this to you even. I'm here to invite you into unlocking that infinite power so that you can remember who you really are. And so at the end of every chapter of the entire book, there's two sets of tools based on that chapter. An invitation and a key. And the invitations come in a series of journal prompts. And they're really good.
I love this.
They're really deep questions or, like, things that you've probably never been asked. And that's the invitation to go within. And then the key is in the form of either a meditation, an exercise, some movements, a practice so that you are, like, physically, somatically unlocking more of your light. So invitations and keys are the tools throughout the whole book. So it's. It's not really a workbook in the sense of, like, be, you know, was. But there's. There's definitely things at the end of every chapter that I want the reader to journal on and to actually do. And I can't wait for people to start doing them. They're good.
Oh, it's going to be so good. I'm doing them. I'm going to start doing mine tonight.
Yes.
How do you see feminine leadership shifting and evolving and changing? I know you've talked about this a lot on your podcast, and you have a new podcast called Spiritual Hustler.
Yeah. Okay. Can I nerd out with you? Yeah, I want to nerd out with you about this. Okay. I'm really. I'm really, really passionate and, like, jazzed and lit about this. This shit. So I had to do a lot of research about a lot of things with the book. You know, I got those codes from the goddesses in Egypt. Like, the feminine frequency is rising here. Women are the leaders of the new earth. Like, go take this message to as many women as possible. Like, that's what they told me, and I'm doing that. So I've always really loved sort of the divine feminine values and really have felt very called to deepen that work within myself. And I think I lead with a lot of feminine energy, but I was still really stuck in the toxic masculine, like, patriarchal, embodied, patriarchal hustle of, like, constantly going, doing externalized worth, strategic problem solving systems, like building a business that I wanted my P and L to look like this at all times.
Yeah.
And it almost killed me. Right? Like, it truly almost did. So I was like, okay, Something is out of alignment, like my body, my feminine body isn't being served by this. This system. And in my research, I really came to find that the system, this. This paradigm, this, like, fake reality.
Yeah.
That's how I consider it to be called. The patriarchy was written by men, for men, 4,000 years ago. And we've been playing out by rules that we didn't write ever since. And if the planet is 4 billion years old, planet Earth is 4 billion years old. That's a lot of time. The patriarchy is 4,000 years old, and human beings have been on this planet for hundreds of thousands of years. How did we live before the patriarchy? Like, the patriarchy is a lot of things, but one of the ways I define it is simply when shit started getting written down.
Yeah.
Right. And so what happened before we could write things down? How is this world run? And the short answer is, was run by women.
Yeah. And told through storytelling around the campfire in the women's circles and the tribes.
And civilizations and sacred rites and hunting and gathering, which women led because they were attuned to the planet and could read the seasons and based on the moon and stars in the sky when they would send the men to go hunt. And we were the original God. We were the goddess. God is a woman, God is a female. And based on maybe how you were raised religiously, that might sound radical, but it's true, it's historical. And I've done quite a bit of research on it. And so, like, don't. Don't listen to me. Go. I can tell you what books do your research.
Yeah.
And. And so to your question, I feel like this feminine. It's why I. I titled. You know, I did have reclaim your feminine power in the title, because this is a moment of reclamation. Women are rising in such a huge way on this planet, and yet we're doing it. I believe in many ways that is antithetical to our true nature as women, which is why the system is burning us out.
Yep.
Right.
I feel. I mean, I'm feeling this right now.
I know you are. I know you are. I. I did it for seven years. I did.
Being like, being like Energizer bunnies and like, generators on the human design. You know, it's like when you have a lot of energy, you feel like you need to just expend all the energy and work, work, work, work, work.
Yeah. And it's addicting. And the society rewards us and tells us we're. We're crushing it. We're winning. When we, when we grow and succeed and are seen invisible and on and building, and it's like, well, what about ceremony and cycles and rhythms and honoring our moon cycles and attuning our businesses to our periods and getting out in nature and having seasons of slow and stillness and valuing beauty over progress? There's all of these innate attributes that have literally been not only oppressed and suppressed, but written out and forgotten. And I just, you know, I did a podcast on my show called why. Why Female Entrepreneurs have been Duped. And it was a good. It was a good episode. And I tell the story about how I. This was really at the end of Simply Be when I was on a sales call and we got this huge lead, this huge lead through our, our pipeline, through our Google SEO stuff. And it was a man and a woman business partner. They ran like a billion dollar hedge fund.
We were like, oh, wow, or we're.
Gonna get to close this massive client. They wanted to brand both of them. So we took our intro call with the male CEO first. He was on his iPhone in the middle of a walk, strolling, taking a break, sunshine, trees, having this, like, jolly old conversation with me. This was like my pitch discovery call. It loved me. He said, great, I want you to talk to my business partner. So I set up a call with his female business partner. Like a week later.
She's like, all on zoom. All.
She's on Zoom in a suit with a office, like, cold as, like fluorescent lights. She looks like she hasn't slept in 15 days. She's such a. She was so wretched to me. And she was like, I eat companies like you like, because she was like, tell me who your clients are. I was. She was horrible. She's like, at one point, companies for breakfast. She said that.
She says that. I know, right?
Like, toxic women who believe that because they make money and sit in offices like that, that they're. That they're special and they're. They're powerful and that that's what makes them powerful. And I'm just like, we've just been so. We've been so duped. Like, that woman just needs to go to bed. That woman needs to probably come to one of my retreats and like, see other women. Embrace her. Heal your nervous system, sister. Like, eat some good food, get a little breath, work. Yes. It's. It's just. And so I'm. I'm really calling forward, I think, more women to not only, like, lead, but like to really lead in the feminine and not, not the trendy divine feminine with, like, crystals and moon circles, but, like, to commit to the matriarchal values of how we should run this world. And I'm excited for it, so.
Good. What do you hope everyone who picks up your book and reads your book gets out of it?
I get this question a lot. Good question. I want the person reading my book, a few things. I want them to really, really, really remember that they weren't put here on this planet for coincidence, that they are literally incarnated here in this human life on an assignment. That they are one of a kind. DNA, snowflake gifts, talents, beauty, heart. And it is literally their responsibility to, like, live that out. And if I can unlock that in someone alone, I will be happy. I also want this book to really hold their hand as their sister, as their friends, not as their guru. To face their shit. To go into the dark, to not be afraid of what they'll find there. Because what you find when you really lean in, go through it, not around it. Learn to love it. Learn to claim responsibility for it, you become unstoppable, actually and.
Are you talking to me right now?
Sure am. I'm right here with you. Yeah, that's what I want.
I love it. It's so funny you don't know this, but I just recorded a podcast episode about feeling your deepest fear and, like, all the emotions that go along with that and how empowering that is. Because you're going to. You're going to be okay.
You're going to be more than okay. You're going to be on fire. You're going to be, like, unfuckable with.
Yep.
Thank you for having me, Sam.
