C
Hey, you weren't listening to me.
B
I said Thunderbolts. The New Avengers is now streaming on Disney plus.
C
Meet the New Avengers.
D
That's cool then.
B
Marvel Studios. Thunderbolts. The New Avengers. Rated PG 13. Now streaming on. You guessed it. Disney Plus. You're listening to the Strata a Beyond the dark production. Season 13, Downfall Part 8.
D
Yes, this is it. This is the place.
C
Yep, this is the place, all right. Amity. The ass end of the Deadlands.
E
So, is someone gonna tell me why we're here?
C
Don't ask me. Darrow. This is what he wanted.
D
I have business here. Never fear. We'll be on our way soon enough.
E
Where's he going?
C
Well, there's only one thing here. Those old ruins over by the cliff. I guess we should follow him and see what this is all about.
E
What is this Amity place anyway?
C
It's an old port that was decommissioned decades ago. Once upon a time, this place probably saw its fair share of action. But these days, yeah, not so much.
E
So our friend here is taking a trip down memory lane or something. Is that why we're wasting half a day on this detour?
C
You know as much as I do. Darrow. Come on. He's going into the ruins. Let's catch up.
D
Bring a scanlight over here, will you?
C
What are you looking at? Something on the floor.
D
Blood was spilled here. A great deal of it.
C
How can you tell? I mean, half the roof is gone. And with all the wind and rain, it was here.
D
This is where she fell. I know it for certain.
B
Who's she?
E
What do you mean by fell? What are we talking about?
D
But the question is, what did they do with her?
C
Creighton, there's nothing here. Whatever you're searching for, it's gone.
D
There was a fight. Right here, within these walls. My companion, Adana, she. She came through this way, but they must have taken her down.
E
People were fighting here.
F
What for?
D
This way. Follow me.
C
Hey, watch your step. Guys, I think there's a drop just up ahead. I can see the ocean out there.
D
Yes, there's a drop, all right. I went over it just in front of where we're standing.
E
Wait a second. You fell over here and survived?
G
How?
D
I wish I could tell you, but whatever the case, I somehow managed to live through it, for better or worse.
C
But who were you fighting? And why?
D
All you need to know is that they had something. Something I needed. But in the end, I allowed it to slip through my grasp. And Adanna, she.
C
She what? She was your companion? Were you expecting to find her here or.
D
I came here looking for answers. For closure. But perhaps there is nothing to find after all.
C
Be careful near the edge, Darrow. You don't want to lose your footing.
E
There's something over there to the south. Something glinting. See it? Along the top of the cliff.
B
Further up the hill.
E
The light caught it just a second ago.
D
Let's go and take a look. Come on, this way.
C
I don't think there's much to see here. Look. It's just a pile of rocks.
E
There's something sticking out of the top. Something metallic. I think that's what caught my eye.
D
Yes, it's the hilt of a sword that's been thrust into the rocks.
C
Huh. Who would bother to do that?
E
Hold on a second while I see if I can pull this sword out. Looks like it might be worth something.
D
Touch that and you die.
E
Hey, take it easy, big guy. What's the matter?
D
I'd know that blade anywhere. It's been infused with.
C
With what?
D
Never mind. All that matters now is that I have proof. This is hers. Madonna's blade. It marks her final resting place. So this is not just a pile of rocks. It's a cairn.
C
Your companion is buried here.
D
So it would seem. And with that being the case, we must leave it untouched.
C
Who buried her, do you think?
D
I would assume this is the work of the Custodian. Tessa. It could be no one else.
E
A friend of yours?
D
No, definitely not that. She was the one I came here to fight.
C
But the fight didn't go well. Obviously. You went over the cliff and your.
D
Companion, she fell at the hand of the Custodian? Yes.
C
So this Custodian took the time to bury her enemy. Why?
D
Perhaps it is customary for them to farewell their dead in this manner. A warrior's farewell. Or perhaps there was some other reason. Either way, this is an unexpected tribute. A fitting tribute.
C
Is this what you came here to find, Creighton?
D
I didn't know exactly what I was looking for when I first came here. But yes, I suppose it is.
E
Great. So can we go now?
C
Taro, just. Just give us a second, all right? Go and check the cargo or something. We'll be right with you.
E
It's fine. I'll wait. It's not like I can go anywhere, is it?
C
Just ignore him, Creighton. Take your time. Do you want some time here alone with Adonna?
D
I promised her that when I was strong again, I would return home to face our oppressors.
E
Where is home exactly?
D
A long way from here.
E
So what's stopping you from going?
D
Believe me, I want to return there more than anything. To bring justice to the ones who have done me wrong. But I can't. And while this body of mine is so weak, as I stand here now, I'm not sure I have it in me to keep my promise to her. Not on my own. I wish she were still at my side.
C
Maybe. Maybe it is better if we leave you to say goodbye. Creighton. Take your time. Just come back down to the rig when you're ready. We'll wait for you. Okay?
A
Summers. How's it going?
C
Hey, Cav. Everything's fine. How are things with you?
A
Things are. Things are okay. I'm just sitting here inside the apartment, as per usual, trawling through the grid as I search for clues. And as you know, this isn't exactly my strong suit. Clicking buttons and staring at terminal screens is. It's not exactly how I like to do things.
C
That's why you got me involved, isn't it? To do the legwork?
A
I'd love to switch places, but, you know.
C
Yeah, I know. How's the kid holding up?
A
She's sleeping in the next room. A good thing, too. She needs all the rest she can get. Anyway. What's new, Summers? Have you got anything for me?
C
As a matter of fact, I do. Thanks to my usual network of scumbags and lowlifes, the ones I always shake down at a time like this. They coughed up some useful intel here. I'm sending it through now.
A
Nothing like kicking down a few doors to get some answers, right?
C
I'm sure you'd be doing the same if you weren't stuck there in that apartment. Anyway, the first few guys I talked to couldn't offer me anything much, but eventually, I hit pay dirt. Take a look at the Wire snap I just sent through. Does the guy look familiar?
A
Oh, shit. It's the one with the green eyes.
C
Can you verify it's the same guy you saw in the alley the other night?
A
I can't say for certain. It was dark and there was some distance between us, but it sure looks like him.
C
I figured it might be. This guy has been distributing a video amongst some of the lowlifes who inhabit the shady side of the grid, if you know what I mean. He's offering a bounty for a certain individual. Go ahead and play the video. You can hear it from the man himself.
H
This encrypted transmission is being distributed to a select list of clients, and as such, it's to be treated with discretion. Do not make unauthorized copies. Do not forward to others outside the register. Our proposal is as my team is currently pursuing a high value target and we are requesting assistance in finding her. A dossier is included with this transmission. Inside, you'll find specifics on the target's physical appearance, last known location, and several fragments of surveillance footage that were taken of her several days ago. As you scan through that surveillance, you may be inclined to doubt the seriousness of this matter, given the target's diminutive stature and seemingly innocuous appearance. Allow me to dispel that notion. Anyone who underestimates this target will fail. I guarantee it. She is highly dangerous. With that being the case, we're not asking for the target to be apprehended. Once located, details of her whereabouts should be forwarded to this channel. If that information results in her capture by my team, you will be awarded the listed bounty. Repeat, should she be located, the target is to not be approached under any circumstance. Consider yourself forewarned.
A
Hmm. What do you make of it, Summers?
C
It seems legit. And it's definitely got some people talking.
A
What do we know about the guy who put up the bounty? The one in the video?
C
I looked into it. Apparently he's known as Archer, but that's all I've got so far. No idea who he works for or any other details, for that matter.
A
Considering the link to Captain Graham, I wonder if he's, well, a cop. But if he is, I've never seen him around the station house. I guess he could be from another precinct.
C
Is that something you could find out?
A
I'll have to be discreet. If I go digging around inside personnel records, I'm gonna raise some red flags in the system. No doubt about it. But yeah, I. I could do it. What about the dossieri mentioned? Did you check it out?
C
Yeah, but apart from a few grainy surveillance snaps of Jade, there's not a lot in there. Seems Archer and his people don't know much more about her history than we do.
A
Well, they must know something. My guess is they don't want to make it public knowledge.
C
Right. They're keeping things close to the chest. What's up? Is something on your mind?
A
I was just wondering why Archer seems to think that Jade was so dangerous. Is that the truth? Or are they just trying to make sure no one gets close to her for some other reason?
C
I don't know, Cav. I already have my concerns about her before I found the transmission. Now I'm even less confident. I don't doubt that you can take care of yourself, Cav.
A
But forget about me. I'm fine. Is there anything else we need to talk about?
C
Well, it occurred to me that this whole situation might be perfect for that grid crawler who's looking into that Strickland stuff for me. He'd probably be a big help. The problem is, I don't want to distract him from the task he's already working on.
A
No, I. I get it. We don't want to screw anything up for your Strickland investigation. And besides, I. I have reservations about bringing outsiders on board that I don't personally know and trust. I'm sure you vetted this guy for your own purposes, but I. I wouldn't feel right getting him involved in this whole thing with Jade. So let's leave him out of it.
C
Sure. If you change your mind, just let me know.
A
Will do. You. You better get going.
F
You.
A
You gotta be shitting me.
C
Kev, what is it?
A
No, it's. It's. I just saw something on my monitor here. Guy in a hoodie. He's standing just across the street.
C
A guy in a hoodie.
A
Sorry, Summers, I. I don't have time to explain. I gotta go.
F
Okay.
A
Thanks for your help. I'll talk to you soon.

F
What have you found? C. You making any progress on the details of that scramble link Dreyfus gave us?
G
I'm not making much headway, pal. Looks like Dreyfus was telling the truth. The link was shut down from the other end. From a routing perspective, the trail's gone cold.
F
You can't trace it.
G
You can't trace something that isn't there. It's like trying to follow footprints across the deadlands. After a week of solid ashfall, it's impossible. So, looks like we've hit another dead end.
F
Maybe it's time we just forget about this whole thing. Dreyfus has moved on, so why worry?
G
Well, he says he's moved on. How do we know that's not a ruse to lull us into a false sense of security?
F
No way did you see him in that restaurant sipping his wine and checking the gloss on his freshly manicured nails? He can deny it all he wants, but it's pretty clear to me that Dreyfus has gone soft.
G
Now that you mention it, he didn't quite have that gleam in his eye. And like you'd expect to see see from someone in his line of work.
F
The guy has a decent resume, but he's well past his prime. No doubt about it. A decade ago, he might have been a tougher proposition. But now, as far as I'm concerned, it's pretty clear he's earned a good living over the years. Now he's in his twilight, looking for easy targets to pad out his cred balance.
G
A thug who's lived in Highgate City so long that he's lost his edge. I can see that. So maybe we put a line through Dreyfus name. He's no longer a threat. But what about the person who's on the other end of that scramble link? Who the hell put out the contract?
F
That's not gonna be an easy question to answer with the list of enemies I've got. Well, it could be anyone.
G
And since we can't trace the scramble link, there's not much we can do but wait for whoever it is to make their next move.
F
Fine with me.
G
Alright, onto the next thing. This biotech guy that Crow told us about. Stephen Killer, wasn't it?
F
That's the name Crow gave us.
G
Yeah. We're almost at the address. Do you still want to go through with it?
F
Might as well. Since we're here after that, maybe Kavanaugh will get off our backs about this whole thing. Let me just find a parking spot. If this rain keeps up, I'm going to need to trade in a van for a goddamn wave skimmer.
G
At least the drainage works on these shiny Highgate city streets. I just hope they're holding up in the Dockerton underground through all of this.
F
Ximena still has some friends working there. She said it's all hands on deck. Right now the pumps are working overtime to keep the flow under control.
G
All the more reason to stay as far away from Dockerton as possible, I guess. With all that fighting between the resistance and Millicon and now the rain, Sooner or later, chances are you're either gonna drown or get your head blown off in the crossfire.
F
I know I've offered to get Ximena out of there plenty of times, but she's still adamant she wants to stay. She's not giving up on the commune.
G
Stubborn, isn't she? I wonder where she gets that from.
F
Are you insinuating something?
G
Me? Wouldn't dream of it. Okay, this looks like it. Stiller Enhancement Clinic.
F
Yeah, this is the place. Let's check it out.
G
No one at reception again? What is it with these clinics? Oh, well, let me try the buzzer.
F
Hey. Is anyone here? Damn, this place is quiet.
G
Do you think they've gone home for the day or something?
F
The sign says they're open. Stay on your toes. See? We might have some trouble here. Let's check the back, see what's going on.
G
You're just going to bust into the operating room? What if they're in the middle of a procedure or something?
F
Then I guess I'll quietly let myself back out again and wait for them to finish, right?
G
Of course. No One's going to notice you stomping around and slamming doors all over the place.
F
I can be discreet.
G
What if they call the cops? How are you gonna explain that?
F
You think I've never talked my way out of a situation before? I'll just say I was looking for the bathroom and got lost.
G
Well, I guess we did come all this way. Might as well take a look right now.
F
Fallen behind me. Stay quiet.
G
There's no one here. Not a soul. Maybe they did go home early.
F
Wait a minute. Look over there. Behind the table. See it? Someone dropped a tray of equipment. Tools are scattered all over the place.
G
But they didn't bother to pick them up. Guess they left in a hurry.
F
You got that right. They didn't even bother to lock the place up.
G
I think you were right. Something is definitely off.
F
Hey, check this out. Someone's pried open a cabinet here, too. Snapped a lock straight off.
G
Could this have been punks running a smash and grab operation in this part of town?
F
Not likely. And what are they gonna steal? Some medical gear?
G
Maybe they were just interested in watches and jewelry, that sort of thing. Rich clients must come through here all the time.
F
Look on the floor. See the gold bracelet? Might have fallen off during a scuffle. Why would they leave that behind?
G
Good point. It's not like you'd miss that sitting there.
F
Let me just check this compartment. They cracked open.
G
What do you see?
F
It's not a safe. And I doubt Dr. Stiller would be storing valuables here with such a flimsy lock. To me, these look like files of some kind. Maybe confidential documents. Let me see. Ah, patient records. Hard copies kept for offline storage.
G
So someone broke in here just to access a few hard copies? Seems a bit excessive.
F
Depends on how much the information in these documents is worth.
G
I can see the cogs turning in that head of yours, Rust. What are you thinking?
F
What if Crow was right and this Steeler guy really was the one who put that neuro shard in Jade Skull? If the people chasing her found out.
G
About it, they could be using Stiller's records to get to Jade.
F
I don't see your name on any of these documents.
G
Maybe the bad guys already took them.
F
Could be. That doesn't answer the other question, though. Where is Stiller?
G
Well, one thing's for sure. He's not around here. And something tells me he didn't just step out for lunch.
F
Yeah, something went down here and it wasn't good.
G
In that case, I think it's time you left. We. Hey, look at this. Behind the door. See it?
F
A blood splatter.
G
That's what it looks like to me. Do you think that could be from one of Dr. Stiller's procedures?
F
The operating table is way over there. Why would there be blood on the wall here?
G
Unless Stiller liked to toss organs around like he was playing grid ball.
F
Somehow I doubt that.
G
It looks fresh, too. It's not even dry.
F
Face it. See? Whatever happened here, we missed it. We're not gonna find answers in this place. Still is gone. And something tells me he won't be coming back.

In this emotionally charged installment of The Strata’s “Downfall” arc, several narrative threads converge on moments of revelation and loss. The protagonists traverse the ruins of Amity—a decommissioned port on the edge of the Deadlands—seeking closure for past battles and relationships. Meanwhile, investigations in the city intensify, unveiling a mysterious and dangerous bounty, and a violent break-in with far-reaching consequences. The episode delves into loyalty, regret, and the search for answers in a city governed by violence and secrets.
(02:04–09:10)
Creighton’s Pilgrimage: Darrow (Creighton) leads his uneasy companions to the desolate ruins of Amity, a once-bustling port now lost to time and decay.
Site of Violence: Creighton identifies a bloodstained spot, convinced it marks where "she fell"—his companion Adanna (03:18–03:31).
Search for Closure: The group discovers a cairn topped with a sword—Adanna’s blade—marking her grave (05:36–06:25).
“I'd know that blade anywhere. ...This is hers. Adanna’s blade. It marks her final resting place. So this is not just a pile of rocks. It’s a cairn.” — Creighton (06:01)
Burying the Past: Creighton reflects on the past battle with the Custodian, Tessa, and his regrets over Adanna’s fate.
Burial by an Enemy: The realization dawns that Tessa, the very enemy Creighton fought, gave Adanna a warrior’s burial—a complex gesture of respect (06:34–07:03).
“So this Custodian took the time to bury her enemy. Why?” — Summers (C) (06:58)
Emotional Fallout: Creighton admits his ongoing struggle to fulfill his promise to Adanna, hampered by his own frail body and lingering guilt (08:10–08:42).
(09:10–15:05)
Summers & Cav’s Collaboration: Summers and Cav discuss new intel about a dangerous figure distributing a bounty via video on the grid, seeking help in locating a “diminutive” but “highly dangerous” target—Jade.
Encrypted Transmission:
“As you scan through that surveillance, you may be inclined to doubt the seriousness of this matter, given the target’s diminutive stature and seemingly innocuous appearance. Allow me to dispel that notion. Anyone who underestimates this target will fail. I guarantee it. She is highly dangerous.” — Archer (Bounty Giver) (11:19–11:53)
Paranoia & Distrust: Cav worries about bringing outsiders into the circle and questions Archer’s motives, suspecting there may be more than meets the eye in the hunt for Jade (13:49–14:13).
Building Threat: The segment ends with Cav suddenly alarmed by a figure outside his apartment, abruptly ending the call—an omen of immediate danger (15:10–15:23).
(17:08–24:10)
Change of Scene: Two other protagonists, possibly Rust and See, follow a lead to the Stiller Enhancement Clinic, linked to the case of Jade and a suspect named Crow.
Signs of Violence: The clinic is discovered in disarray—tools scattered, cabinets pried open.
“They didn’t even bother to lock the place up.” — Rust (F) (21:55)
Missing Doctor: Files (not valuables) have been taken, suggesting a targeted search for information—possibly patient records linked to Jade’s neural implant (22:16–23:10).
Dark Turn: The discovery of fresh blood heightens the sense of urgency and danger. The group concludes Dr. Stiller is missing and in likely peril (23:49–24:10).
“Face it. ...Whatever happened here, we missed it. We’re not gonna find answers in this place. Stiller’s gone. And something tells me he won’t be coming back.” — Rust (F) (24:10)
Creighton’s Reflection on Adanna:
“I promised her that when I was strong again, I would return home to face our oppressors... But I can’t. And while this body of mine is so weak, as I stand here now, I’m not sure I have it in me to keep my promise to her. Not on my own.” (08:10–08:42)
On the Danger Surrounding Jade:
“Anyone who underestimates this target will fail. I guarantee it. She is highly dangerous.” — Archer (11:50)
Summers’ Skepticism about Jade:
“I already have my concerns about her before I found the transmission. Now I’m even less confident.” — Summers (C) (14:02)
Sudden Threat at Cav’s Apartment:
“I just saw something on my monitor here. Guy in a hoodie. He’s standing just across the street... Sorry, Summers, I don’t have time to explain. I gotta go.” — Cav (A) (15:10–15:23)
The episode maintains a noir-like tension—somber reflections on loss are laced with the paranoia and edginess of city life. Characters speak in terse, direct dialogue, revealing fear, regret, and stubborn resilience in the face of danger and moral ambiguity.
Episode 13.8 is a critical emotional and narrative junction for The Strata. Characters confront the ghosts of their pasts and the dangers of their present, underscoring the human stakes in a city where every secret can kill. The episode deftly weaves personal grief and high-stakes investigation, deepening the intrigue awaiting the next chapter.
