Great. Oh, I gotta say, I'm so happy to be back. This was, this is one of my favorite things to do, is to do this show with you, April, and with the audience. Even though it was new, it was a new thing, but it was great and it's awesome to be back. So. Hello, friends. Good to see all of you. Welcome back to the Tim and April Show. All right, cool. So two things, friends. The first thing is, is that, so I, I, if you don't, I'm not sure. I'm assuming most of you know that I started an organization called the New Evangelicals and that is what is like the, the media umbrella that the Tim and April show is underneath. So there was actually the board of directors initiated a third party investigation between me and a contractor. That report is out, it's public, it's not a secret, and you can read the entire thing and a Q and A of what actually happened. And what's going on in the description below. Okay. But that came out March 16, so obviously I needed time to process that and go through all of that with. With. With. With the board. The board needed time to reprocess some things. And so if you have the report or what we did the investigation over, there are no secrets. There's literally a link in our. In our description right now. You can click it. There's an faq, and the full report is there. No redaction, no edits, no summary from me, just the full thing. You are more than welcome to read it. We're not hiding anything. But that was one reason why we. We paused for a bit. The other reason I'll let April kind of describe because it actually, you were the person, April. That kind of made me realize this other aspect of why we needed to take a break for a few weeks and kind of regroup. So take it away.

Yeah. So, like, our show was doing really well, and I feel like you and I were both just, like, really well. We were kind of like we would not have stopped on our own because it was doing so well. You know, we were just kind of throwing ourselves into it. And so I didn't realize until we had stopped how much of a toll this work was taking on my own mental health and just how exhausted I was all of the time. Because we were going live on at that point, Mondays and Thursdays. The Monday live was really, I think, was what was getting to me because I was having to do research over the weekends, which was take. Which no one asked me to do. I just felt like that's what I should do because of our show Monday, just to be prepared. But when we were going live, we had to be extra prepared one, because it's live. And so we were ingesting, and I was ingesting just every single bad news story possible all of the time. I had all my news notifications on because not only, like, we just had to know what was happening in order to figure out what we were talking about and what was related to Christian nationalism. And so, like, even what we didn't cover on the show, There was probably 20 stories that we discussed that I had to know about that we decided not to do. And if you've been paying attention, it's a lot of bad news. It is a lot of bad news. And so I just realized I was not, like, it felt so important, you know, like, oh, my gosh, we have to. We have to do everything. So I was just kind of throwing myself really Hard into this work, which is important, but I just realized, like, I was becoming a little bit of a shell of a person and not. I just wasn't mentally. I was. My mental health was not doing well.

Yes. The best way I can. I can describe it is it's like standing in front of a. Like a fire hose and just trying to catch whatever you can. It's like three. It's like a foot in front of you. You're just holding this massive hose, and you're just like, oh, my gosh, I'm trying to drink the water that's coming out of it. You're just getting hit in the face the entire time. And, you know, friends for a lot of people. And by the way, I didn't recognize how much work goes into doing stuff like this until. Until we started doing it, but there's a lot of work that goes into this behind the scenes before we hit that live button. It takes time to prep a. Just our knowledge on the stories. It takes time to prep all the different shots so things look smooth online. And I also was having the same problem where, again, April. Right. There was no. There was no contractual obligation to be working on a Sunday. We were both just working on Sundays to prep for Monday, and that was eating into both of our family time. And I agree. I don't think if we didn't take a break for, like, a week or two to kind of catch our breath, I don't think I would have realized either just how much of a mental toll all the content that you and I both do takes on us. Right? And so for this to be, like, sustainable long term, and by the way, we want it to be like, April and I have had a lot of talks. We spent the weekend in D.C. with our families a couple weeks ago. We'll get into that. We love the show. Like, we love doing the show. We love going live. We love talking to you. I love being able to interact and read, chat. It just, you know, the chat in real time, it just feels different doing a show like this. And frankly, we both agree. I think a lot of you out there feel the same way. There are not enough people talking about the Christian nationalist angle in all of this. Right. Why are the. Why are these mass deportations happening illegally? Well, there's a. There's a. There's a theology behind this. Right. So the work is important. But for us to be able to do this sustainably and do what we want to do with this long term, we have to be able to recognize that, you know, What? We're not the only people talking about this and we don't have to be online 247365 trying to cover every single story. So what we're going to do is the show's going to take a slight adjustment. We're still doing two pieces of content a month, but one is going to be pre recorded. Sorry, a week. A week. Sorry, a week. Weekly.

I think that a piece that we can offer people is where did Christian nationalism come from? Who are some of the players that are animating a lot of this? Right. So we're going to, we're planning to do deep dives on Mondays and then on Thursdays we're still going to go live, cover what's happening in the news as much as we can and, you know, spend that time with all of you in real, in real time to hear your thoughts, see your perspectives and cover this stuff. So that's going to be the, the, the, the new show format happening going forward. So Mondays, a prerecorded, just post of a YouTube video that will also go on our podcast, by the way. Yeah. I mean, because it is scary times. And what we're going to talk about today I think just emphasizes that point, you know, but like, I feel like I've been so like caught up in trying to save the future for my kids.

That like, I just, I don't want to miss their present. Like, there's this like, yes, it's a constant struggle. It's hard parenting right now because it's like, oh, I want to hurry up and get through this Trump administration so we can move on and have some kind of like, I just, you know, I can't wait to get through this part of history. But then I want time to slow down when it comes to my kids because they're only little once. So it's just, it's, it's a weird place to live in that, you know, that tension. But that is our reality.

So our, our youngest now who's three will tell me, daddy, put your phone down when I'M playing with him and check my phone. Like he sees that and I'm like, you know, I don't want to be that parent because it's not my kids fault that I do content for a living. You know, I have to find ways to be present with them. And also, and this is, I'm allowed to share this. My partner is cool with it, but our oldest recently was diagnosed with autism. He's on the spectrum, which honestly was no surprise to us. But we're, we're happy to have the diagnosis. But again, like that just means that we have to be able to give him the attention and love and care that he needs and advocate for him in the, in the system. Especially with what's happening out there. You know, our health secretary RFK was recently saying how people who are artistic can't do poetry and can't sing. I'm like, what are we like, no, like now I have to really advocate for my child. So. So that's just a new thing in our life that we're also navigating. And for us to do this again long term and to be here for the next four years and longer, we have to be sustainable. And that means changing the show format a little bit, but still making sure that we're here for you guys as much as possible.

So anyway, so one thing that we did do that we kind of wanted to just talk about real quick. That was kind of fun. This had been planned for a while, but both of us were at the Summit for religious freedom two weekends ago, I think now in Washington D.C. i was one of the keynote speakers. It was a really cool experience talking about Christian nationalism. I think there were just, it was just a. I cannot. If you can go to Summit for Religious Freedom next year. It. The. The whole conference and weekend was very, very impressive. Including on Monday the. So the final day of the conference they had what they call Hill Day where they bused a bunch of us to Capitol Hill where we actually went in and lobbied our representatives, our. Like for me it was our Kentucky Congressman and our two senators, Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul and our kids. Like we all wrote postcards and hand delivered them. And I didn't know this prior to this day, but at any point anyone can just walk into like during business hours you can walk into your rep's office and literally hand off information and literature and petition your reps at any point, like the aides and the staffers that work there.

This blew my mind. I. I just need to say this. Like, this. This blew my mind that you can walk up to Capitol Hill, so maybe some context. So the Summit for Religious Freedom hosted by Americans United, They're a great organization. Andrew Seidel and many other people there are doing amazing work, as you saw in this picture over here. We had Jamar Tisby with us and Monty, who's a great. A great voiceover on Instagram, doing this stuff. We got the protest that. That Saturday together. It was awes. This, April, I agree with you. This is what shocked me the most. So the Summit for Religious Freedom, they give you the opportunity to go up to the Hill, they call it Hill Day, and they bring you around and let you petition your representatives directly. And I. I'm like, you. I thought that you needed, like, appointments and security clearance, and you just couldn't walk into a government building and be like, here, Representative, here's my thoughts on this. But you can. You can do that. We made these little postcards advocating for different bills and saying, hey, we want. You know, we're really in favor of this. Please make sure you support this. And you literally just walk up to your rep's office, you find their little placard. You don't have to knock. You just walk right in. And usually there's like, an aide or someone there. You give them the postcard, say that you're one of their constituents, and they. They have to record it. They have to record that you did this, and apparently they listen. My mind was blown, April, when I realized that's how easy it was.

Yeah. And they did say, too. I mean, obviously, sending emails is the quick and easy way, but if you want to mail them, like. Like, basically mail what you would send an email, do it on a postcard, because they don't accept envelopes. Do you have to, like, write it on your postcard?

Sorry. This person says they just asked you to use the front door, not the wall. Yeah, yeah, right. I will say we did not storm any buildings during this time. We just walked.

Like they could. That's the thing. On January 6th, they literally could have just walked up and. And petitioned their people.

They could have done that. Like. Like, they literally could have. What they could have done. Like, here's a different. You know, in some timeline, this is what happened, right? There's a bunch of people there, and they're like, you know what? We're really concerned about the direction of our government. I'm not sure if this election was done fairly. Let's do a mass postcard campaign. Let's get 40,000 patriots to sign up, walk in peacefully, and just give our reps tens of thousands of postcards, and that's how we're going to petition the government peacefully. That's a real scenario that could have happened on January six. Like, there's nothing stopping you. The security is limited. You walk through a metal detector. Yeah. You get through and you're in. That's it. You're just in. But no, no, that wasn't. We couldn't do that.

Yeah. So no storming was done. We calmly walked with our postcards and lobbied. And my. It was, like, really cool to have my kids there, too. I think that was my favorite thing, is my whole family got to come with me this time. And I don't know, it was just. It was just very, very cool.

We've been tracking the price of eggs because, as Trump said, we're going to bring prices way down. So. True. And we've been tracking his time spent golfing. We are now 87 days in office. Okay, so this tracks Trump's golfing attendance. And Trump has spent a quarter of the time golfing since he's been in office. So 87 days in office, 23 days spent golfing gives you a grand total of 26.4% of the time. Trump is golfing. Yep. I mean, you know, the economy is tanking, tariffs, Trump's terrorist plan is ridiculous, and the Dow Jones is just tanking. And Trump is out there golfing because, you know, maga, baby, we are so back.

Yes, let's keep consistent. So the price of eggs has actually dropped quite drastically over the past looks like the past month or two, they're down to an average of $3.11 a dozen. That's down by 50%, however. And listen, I am going to be a little picky here because I know that, that, that MAGA pundits were all about the economy. You know, all about how Joe Biden's tanking the economy, how prices are higher than ever. While it is true that, as you can see here, egg prices took a major dive. They are still higher. They are still higher by almost a dollar than, than when Joe Biden was in office. So I'm just saying, like, you know, it's. Yes, prices have, have, have lowered, but the new low is still, still very, very high, to be clear. So I just wanted to point that out. Indiana, thank you so much for the super chat. Thank you.

He said, oh, man, I can't. Oh, my gosh. All right, well, let's get to our main story, which is actually very tragic and infuriating for multiple reasons. So I'm sure you all have heard, but there was a. He was a father living in Maryland, married to his wife, who's a full US Citizen, Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

Who a few weeks ago was accidentally deported to El Salvador. They, immediately after it happened, his lawyers were saying this was a mistake. The Trump administration admitted it was a clerical or an administrative error, that he was not supposed to be deported to El Salvador. And basically they said, but I guess, you know, there's just nothing we can do about it. Do you want to get into the details of this case?

Yeah, I do want to take a few minutes here to kind of go through first just what we know about this story, because it's like most stories, complicated. And then we can kind of give our opinion on what's going on. So I actually have two different news sources I'm gonna be reading from. So let's just start from the beginning. Okay. So like you said, April, this is according, by the way, I think, to, to NBC News, the. Yeah. The U.S. supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to facilitate Kilmar Abreu Garcia's return because, like you said, it was a mistake. And also he. He had protective status in the US and the White House is claiming, hey, we can't retrieve this guy. Sorry. You know, again, we can bring back Andrew Tate. We can facilitate the the return of Andrew Tate back to America. The women on camera, but we can't facilitate this guy. We're just too weak and pathetic.

We need to emphasize that. The Supreme Court ruled nine. Oh. It was unanimous that they agreed that the Trump administration, including all of Trump's picks.

So, okay, so let's get into just who this person is. All right, so this is according to the. I'm gonna start reading out from the article here. Abrego Garcia, 29, lived in the US for roughly 14 years, during which he worked construction, got married, and was raising three children with disabilities, according to court records. The Trump administration officials says said that he was deported last month based on a 2019 accusation from local police in Maryland that He was an MS.13 gang member. Abrego Garcia denied the allegation and never was charged with the crime, his attorney said. And then it goes on to say details here, page three. Abrego Garcia grew up in El Salvador's capital city, according to court documents filed in US immigration court in 2019, and his father was a former police officer. His mother sold a sign. I can't pronounce it. I'm just gonna say they he his mother sold food, the nation's signature dish of flat tortilla pouches that hold seeming blends of cheese, beans and savory pork. A local gang called Barrio 18 began extorting the family for rent money and threatened to kill his older brother Caesar, or force him into their gang if they weren't paid, according to court documents. The family complied, but eventually sent Caesar to the US and the family was was targeted like intensely. US Immigration and Customs Enforcements alleged. Oh, sorry, this is the wrong page. My bad. Page four. The family moved 10 minutes away, but the gang threatened to sexually assault and kill Abrego Garcia's sisters, according to court records. The family shut down the business moved again and eventually set Abrego Garcia to the US so he arrived in 2011. He did not arrive legally. Abrego Garcia fled to the US illegally around 2011, the year he turned 16, according to court documents filed in his immigration case. He joined his brother, now a U.S. citizen, in Maryland, and found work in construction. About five years later, Abrego Garcia met Jennifer Vasquez Sura, a U.S. citizen, according to court records. And in 2018, after she learned that she was pregnant, he moved in with her and her two children. They lived in Prince George county just outside Washington. So I'm, I'm going through the whole story because it's, it's important to understand the context. U S Immigration though and Customs Enforcement alleged that he was a certified gang member based on information that came from a confidential informant used by county police, according to the records. According to Abrego Garcia's attorneys in his current case, the criminal informant had alleged that Abrego Garcia belonged to an Ms. 13 chapter in New York where he has never lived. The information was enough for an immigration judge in 2019 to keep Abrego Garcia in jail as his immigration case continued. According to court records, the judge said that the informant was proven and reliable and had verified his gang membership and rank. So according to this judge, he believed this confidence, this confidential informant's story that Abreu Garcia was part of MS.13. But again, Garcia, you should know, has no criminal history in the US or in El Salvador and denies being associated with this gang. In October 2019, an immigration judge denied Abrego Garcia's asylum request but granted him protection from being deported back to El Salvador because of, quote, a well founded fear of gang persecution. According to his case, he was released and ICE did not appeal the case. Abrego Garcia checked in with ICE while the Department of Homeland Security issued him a work permit, according to court filings and he joined a union and was employed full time as a sheet metal apprentice. In 2021, Vasquez Sura, this is his wife, filed a temporary protection order against Abrego Garcia stating that he had punched, punched, scratched and ripped off her shirt during an argument. The case, details of which are released by Trump administration officials that were to miss several in this. These accusations were dismissed several weeks later, according to court records. Vasquez Sura said in a statement after the documents release that the couple had worked things out privately as a family, including by going to cancel counseling, quote, after surviving domestic violence in a previous relationship. I acted out of caution after a disagreement with Kilmar by seeking a civil protective order in case things escalated. She stated things did not escalate and I decided not to follow through the civil court process. Kilmar has always been a loving partner and father and I will continue to stand by him and demand justice for him. She said he and Vasquez were raising three kids, including their five year old son who is, who has autism, is deaf in one year and unable to verbally Communicate. According to the complaint filed against the Trump administration, they're also raising a 9 year old with autism and a 10 year old with epilepsy. And like we said, the whole reason why this case broke is because the Trump administration mistakenly deported him. Now, I want to read one more thing before we get to our own opinion here. This is a separate news article because I was doing some digging. I'm like, well, what's up with like this informant and this cop?

This is from Channel 4, a local affiliate here. It's called News 4 Report. So I'm going to just read from them a different perspective on some of this stuff, just so you have all the context and we'll get into it. The Trump administration has repeatedly claimed that Abrego Garcia was a member of Ms. 13 and recently included an allegation without providing evidence that the 29 year old was also involved in human trafficking. But in court documents examined by News4, the only allegation Abrego Garcia was in a gang came from one Prince George's county police officer who was later fired for misconduct in office. That's important. On page two at the bottom, this is the court documents. It says Exhibit 4 is a prince George's County Police Department gang field interview sheet. It was issued for the limited purpose of showing that the respondent was labeled a gang member by law enforcement. The attorney who represented Abrego Garcia in that proceeding said it was written by Officer Ivan Mendez, who claimed a confidential source came forward to say that Abrego Garcia was a member of Ms. 13. In fact, in a document denying Abrego Garcia bail for the first time on April 29, 2019, a different immigration judge even wrote, quote, the determination that the respondent is a gang member appears to be trustworthy and is supported by other evidence in the record, namely information contained in the gang field interview sheet. That sheet was released on Wednesday by the Department of Justice. It says that when officers stopped Abrego Garcia, he. He was with two known members of Ms. 13 and the third man suspected of being in the gang. Hang on, friends. We're getting there. I want you to understand what's going on here. This is important. The documents say that Abrego Garcia was wearing, quote, a Chicago Bulls hat and a hoodie with rolls of money covering the eyes, ears and mouth of the presidents on the separate denominations. Wearing the Chicago Bulls hat represents they are a member in good standing with MS.13. Officers contacted a past, proven and reliable source of information who advised that Abrego Garcia is an active member of MS.13 with the Western clique. However, Abrego Garcia's attorney said the western clique is in New York, where the 29 year old has never lived. And then we're almost done hanging him there. When Prince George's county police stopped Abrego Garcia back on March 28, 2019, he was standing in a parking lot with three other men. He was looking for work. And according to the attorney who represented him back then, the officer who stopped him was suspended four days later and accused of misconduct in the office. In a statement in news for Lucia Curiel, the attorney who represented Abrego Garcia at his immigration hearing said, quote, at Kilmar. At Kilmar Abrego Garcia's immigration court hearing, the ICE attorney stated to the judge that the only intel they had on him was in fact that the intel from the Prince George's county gang unit officer. They had nothing else. And the officer responsible for the allegations was later fired. So really, it comes from a lot of hearsay, this idea that he was found to be in an MS.13 gang. And this is the whole thing, this is the entire piece of information you all need to understand is that this case is complicated because there's a lot of layers to it. But the information that he was in a gang comes from someone who said that he was standing next to two other men that were apparently in this gang. But his attorneys argue he was standing in a Home Depot parking lot looking for work at the time and was just next to them looking for work. So that's kind of the major story that I wanted to kind of just present the actual story as we know it and as we understand it, then we can kind of unpack it. Right.

I think it's important to. It's. It's only complicated because the Trump administration is lying nonstop about what has actually happened. They admitted error because here. But here's the thing. Even if everything that you know, even if he was here illegally, what they're doing is still not okay, because you're supposed to go through due process. And let's not forget that the prison that they're going to in El Salvador is a place intended for terrorists. It's known for torture. It's incredibly inhumane. The pictures coming out of there. They're treating human beings like cattle. It feels much more like a concentration camp, a death camp, perhaps, than just your everyday prison. It's not like a prison here, which we've got prison problems as well. But like this is, it's not, not to mention it's not just Abrego Garcia who has been wrongly deported. You've got a makeup artist from Venezuela who was deported based on his crown tattoos. That's it. There was a teen, a 19 year old teen named Merwell Gutierrez who was dragged off the street. Literally they're kidnapping people off the streets. And ice in this 19 year old's case said, oh, this is not the person, this is not the person we were looking for. And then they were told like, oh, we'll just grab them anyway. Deported to El Salvador.

Not like they're literally just grabbing people that they're not even intending to do. And like there's just so many mistakes that are happening. And according to the Los Angeles Times, they have found that about 90% of the migrants that have been sent to El Salvador did not have a US criminal record. Yeah, like a good majority of these people have not committed a crime. They're not violent. Like they're claiming to be. They are literally, they're looking at tattoos, they're looking at hats and they're literally just like, because of this, you have to be a gang member and now you have to be not just thrown in prison.

A torture terrorist prison. That is completely inhumane. Like if this is not making you angry like that, that is the thing that is just so mind blowing to me is you have all of these right wing Christians that are justifying this because, oh well, he was here illegally or he has connections with the gang member, but he has, there is zero evidence that he has been violent, that he has done any crime for. And not just him, but for a lot of the migrants that are being sent there. And I don't understand how we can be okay with this. Like these are human beings. This is a father who has children, who's, whose kids now are going to sleep without their dad.

I, I completely agree. I mean, I, I don't, I'm not even sure else how, how to add to that. Yes, exactly. I mean, again, let's be very clear in Kilmar's case, right? No criminal history in El Salvador, no criminal history in America. You literally have hearsay. You have someone who, who said this person is affiliated with this gang because we think that's what's going on. No hard evidence, no documented evidence. Right. And also how, ok, you can't have it both ways. You can't, the Trump administration can't say this guy was a gang member and then say, oh, he was deported because of a clerical Error. Then, wait, which one is it? So are, are you not deporting actual gang members like you say you are, or is he not a gang member? Because both of these things can't be true at the same exact time, Right? And that's because this entire setup, what we're watching happening with the Trump administration is not about due process. It's not about protecting the country. It's about getting rid of certain types of people and what they look like and where they're from and what language they speak to maintain a certain ethnic identity in America. This is why we don't see stories of people who are European looking or from European descent being ripped off the streets and deported back to Germany or Finland or Canada, because they're not targeting those people. And so what they have to do is they have to create narratives, right? Oh, these are gang members. But there, many of them, most of them, the majority of them are not. And every day you go online, you see another video of an ICE agent bashing in a window where there's a pregnant woman taking her out of her car to deport her. On what grounds? On what charges? It's, it's, it's wild that we're here, but it's, it's also intentional. And I think this is what a lot of people who maybe don't track Christian nationalism don't understand. For the Christian nationalist, especially your hardline Christian nationalist type, I'm talking about your William wolves, etc. This is great. This is awesome. Because don't forget Christian nationalism, your, your, your Charlie, Crooks of the world, etc. They believe that, quote, third worlders, that's the term that they use, are destroying the country. And that. In that, in that, in that. And that people who look and act like Charlie, AKA white people, are being replaced by, by, by foreign born people in order to, to, to change the voting demographic of the country. This is documented language from Charlie Kirk, from all those people. So what Trump is doing is just part of the playbook that they've had four years to make, right? Biden was in office, the Trump people and Charlie and Project 2025, that all gets made behind the scenes over the past four years with a game plan that if we can get this guy in, there is a plan of action and it looks like this. And the result is that suddenly the family of pro, the party of pro family values is ripping people away from their children and deporting them illegally. Because the Supreme Court ruled 9 to 0 that the Trump administration must facilitate the return of Kilmar. So he was illegally deported back to El Salvador in. In. In a prison that is notorious for inhumane living conditions while his. His wife and his children are here suffering. And somehow this is. This. This is. This is the pro family position, April. These are family values. This is a biblical worldview. It's ridiculous.

So the argument is that he's saying that the Supreme Court decision was actually in their favor when it largely was not. I think that. That the Supreme Court agreed that one of the lower court judges overstepped how soon they had to bring back Kilmar. But still, the Supreme Court was pretty clear about that.

So here, the supreme court ordered on April 10 that the government must facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return to the United States. But they stopped short of backing the lower court's earlier directive that used the word effectuate, which is a little more enforceful. So it's a difference of facilitate versus effectuate. But they still said that they must be taking steps to facilitate his return 100%. Like, they ruled against Trump.

These people want total power and total control. And tearing down the government and gutting it from the inside out is step one in that process. I made a post about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and almost immediately I had several posts from what appeared to be bot accounts that were just saying the Supreme Court ruled in favor 90 that the Trump administration was right and that he is a gang member. Like literally just pushing out lies that you can go and fact check. But people that are that want to believe Trump because they voted for Trump, because pride will get in the way of a lot of these people admitting that they were wrong. They're literally just going to take some random bot saying, nope, Supreme Court ruled in favor of Trump. He was a criminal. Blah, blah, blah, blah. And then they just. That's what they believe. So I think part of the reason why a lot of people are not seeing it is because they are just believing this incredibly misinformed information campaign. It's just, it's just straight up propaganda and indoctrination.

He likes goading the media. He likes, you know, sticking the knife deeper in, into their side. He likes this. Like, this is, this is not a case where Trump's like, look, guys, you know, I get it, right? Kilmar is a father, he's a husband, and we made a mistake. But hey, we're just powerless. He's not even cheesing. He's not even hiding it. They enjoy this. They enjoy the fact that a human being, a man who is a father, who is a husband, who has no criminal record in El Salvador or in the US who was ordered or who was allowed to stay here, who was given, by the way, legal working permits to work in this country legally. That guy got deported because of a clerical error, and now all of a sudden, he's an MS.13 gang member and terrorist. It's unbelievable.

And 60% of white Protestants and 54% of white Catholics voted for Trump in this past election. I do not know, I don't know how you claim to be a follower of Jesus, an immigrant under the oppression of the Roman Empire, a refugee, for crying out loud, and then really think that this is Christian, that this, that these are biblical values, that this is what God would want. We are literally destroying families for no reason other than hate and xenophobia and racism. Like, we just have to say these quiet parts out loud. April, I'm so exhaustive trying to beat around the bush. This is at its core because of racism, because Trump and his crew do not want brown skinned people in this country flat out. And just look at who he hangs out with. Trump had. Trump got dinner with Nick Fuentes a couple years ago. He brought him over to Mar a Lago and had dinner with him. Nick Fuentes is an open anti Semite. He's an open Holocaust denier. He's openly racist. And Trump goes, I didn't really know who he was. He didn't even say I'm sorry or it was a bad idea. He said nothing. And it doesn't matter because his supporters are so freaking brainwashed by the propaganda pushed by him and right wing media sources that this is what happens. This is the outcome of brainwashing of propaganda. Yes, we are looking at a very similar path to what happened in Germany. We just are. It's, of course it's different, but it's also similar. I know. It's actually very scary to see the parallels between what's happening right now and Nazi Germany, because even Auschwitz, Auschwitz was a prison concentration camp, not in Germany. They were deporting people first.

Look for. If people need me to spell it out for them briefly, I will. The way that fascism and authoritarianism works is that they always have a scapegoat. They always have an out group that is, that is the problem in society. And for Hitler, it was the Jewish people, okay? Which he. And by the way, if you read the story of Hitler, it didn't start out that way. It was. There was always some anti semitism there. And then it got stronger and stronger and stronger. It was like an overnight thing where one day Hitler goes, you know what, guys, let's build concentration camps. He led people along that path by scapegoating, right, the Jews for all of Germany's problems. And you look at America, what is the right wing targeting? Who are they targeting? They're targeting trans people who are 1% of the population. Right. Lest we forget that Trump did the protect women and women's sports nonsense. Right. The man who, by the way, was found liable sexually assaulting a woman is trying to protect women. And right wingers like, wow, this guy's so bold. So you have those people, you have the DEI hires that's targeting bipoc folks, black indigenous people of color. And now you have, of course, the immigrant sentiment, the anti immigrant sentiment, which, by the way, is a. There's a long history here of anti immigrant sentiment in American, in the American history and lexicon. And unfortunately, white Protestants were some of the largest groups of people that were saying this stuff that we have to get, we have to get these people out of the country. That's what Trump is doing. It's always someone else who's responsible for the problems of a society. This is a classic piece of textbook whatever. You know, it's in the playbook of fascism and we're seeing it.

It's infuriating. It's dehumanizing. And we're watching it happen, unfortunately, April, because of our faith tradition. I think that, that, that, that's what I know, I know, I know that hurts us the most because we were radicalized by the evangelical world to be these Jesus people. And then we read the Bible, we read the words of Jesus and saw what these Christians were doing and said, wait, things don't add up. And now all of a sudden, we're the heretics and they're believers. And it's just. It's unbelievable to witness. We are literally ripping off. We are literally kidnapping people off the streets of America who are here legally, who have green card status or they have visas, they have work permits, whatever. They have court orders saying they're allowed to stay here. They have protected status. We are ripping them off the streets. We are deporting them. We are not giving them lawyers. We are sending them a thousand miles away across the country, not letting their loved ones know. People forget that Kilmar's wife found out about his deportation through the news. She. She saw him with his head shaved and recognized him by the tattoos. That's how she knew that he was taken away. Can you. I mean, put yourself in that person's shoes? Could you imagine if your spouse is sitting, come home one day and you saw them on the news being deported to, you know, a different country? It's wild.

I don't know if it's Fox News, some news station basically saying that his wife is safer tonight because he's in El Salvador. They're literally trying to paint this like they are protecting his family. Now because they made this mistake, they are double and tripling down. But here is Kilmar Abrego Garcia's wife, clearly wanting him back is of after his disappearance. And I stand before you filled with spirit that refuses to bring down. I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn't forgotten about you. Our children are asked, asking, when would you come home? And I pray for the day I tell them the time and date that you'll return. As we continue through Holy Week, my heart aches for my husband who should have been here leading our Easter prayers. Instead, I find myself pleading with the Trump administration, administration and the Bukele administration to stop playing political games with the life of Kilmar. Our family is torn apart during this scary time, and our children miss their dad so much. This, despite the challenges we continue to face with the US and the Salvadorian government. I hope that the strength of faith and the resilience within us will keep Us standing after all the punches we can sit, we continue to receive. Our ability to fight back against these governments are testimonies to the spirit of fight and restraint that God has given us. We will continue standing strong and we will never give up on you. That this person sounds like they're either Catholic or Christian or evangelical or Protestant. And just a reminder that whenever you hear people in America say we have to fight for religious freedom or Christian values, what they don't mean is this. Right. They mean a very specific brand of Christianity, one that tends to protect the people in power and that has no problem deporting other Christians illegally, ripping them away from their family. This is a very specific brand of Christianity that we are experiencing in America, and it has no problem selling out, quote, unquote, one of its own if it means that it gets to maintain the culture war advantage and make America as white as they're able to. Courts of the United States have said there's no evidence to support the charge that he's part of MS.13. So I asked the vice president whether or not El Salvador has any evidence that he's part of Ms. 13 or has committed a crime. So I asked the vice president if Abrego Garcia has not committed a crime and the US Courts have found that he was illegally taken for the United States and the government of El Salvador has no evidence that he was part of Ms. 13. Why is El Salvador continuing to hold him in SICOT? And his answer was that the Trump administration is paying El Salvador, the government of El Salvador, to keep him at cecot. And I pointed out that neither the government of El Salvador nor the Trump administration has presented evidence to support the claim that he's committed any kind of criminal acts. And so why not release Abrago Garcia today? And he said what President Bukele said the other day at the White House, which that El Salvador can't smuggle Mr. Abrego Garcia into the United States. And I said, I'm not asking him to smuggle Mr. Abrego Garcia in the United States. I'm simply asking him to open the door of CECOT and let this innocent man walk out. And I pointed out that the Attorney General of the United States, Pam Bondi, has said that the United States would send a plane to El Salvador to pick him up. And why did she do that? Because the Supreme Court of the United States, in a ruling of 9 to 0, has said that the Trump administration has to facilitate his return to the United States. Now, there's no evidence that the Trump administration is complying with that order. There's no evidence that they're complying with that. Or in fact, the United States Embassy here has told me they've received no direction from the Trump administration to help facilitate his release. So the Trump administration is clearly in violation of American court orders. But that still leaves the question, why is the government of El Salvador continuing to imprison a man where they have no evidence he's committed any crime, and they've not been provided any evidence from the United States that he's committed a crime.

So basically he's just saying, because the United States is paying El Salvador to keep him. And both sides are now saying, yeah, well, I can't do that. Nothing, nothing should be done.

Well, and also it does. I mean, he brings up a good point at the end where he says, if there is no crime, why is it being held in a, in a prison in El Salvador? Like, like what crime has he committed in El Salvador to be held in prison? And they, they can't give him one, because again, this is not about justice or about law and order or about doing the right thing. It's about something completely different than that. And it is wild. I mean, literally, what, what is stopping the US from sending a plane to El Salvador and El Salvador releasing him? Nothing. Because Trump is the person, his administration. They're the ones in charge. They could easily facilitate this, as we know, because they facilitated bringing Andrew Tate, the woman beater, back to the States who's facing credible charges of sex trafficking, I think.

But I would just for, for the Christians out there who, who still, for whatever reason, don't see a problem with this. Let's, let's go back to who we should be following and emulating, right? The words of Jesus. In Luke 15, Jesus gave the parable that said, suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Would you not leave the 99 and go after the 1 until you find it? Until you find it. Only we read more of the red letters.

But I still don't know how Christians look at everything that Trump says, does, how he acts, and the policies he is enacting and go, this is the way of Jesus. Yes, this is congruent with the teachings of Jesus. Heck, how is this even congruent with, with, with the Hebrew Bible? There are so many commands to welcome the foreigner and the immigrant because you were once a foreigner in the land of Egypt. And that's. And that is, you know, one of the things where we have to stop thinking that somehow that these Christians really care about their faith. Ultimately, they use their faith as a, as a Trojan horse for their deeper cultural and political identities that are right wing, that are fascist, and that are racist. I mean, that's the only way to describe this stuff, you know, and it's, it's sad to see it.

I left my abuser in September 2020, moving from LA to southern Utah. I had been a Cali girl my whole life, so seeing the Christian nationalism and patriarchy present in Utah gave me quite a shock. During that time, I began deconstructing and making sense of my abuse and how my church upbringing and political affiliations contributed to it. It's a painful discovery that I'm still coming to terms with. I've never been a big believer in tithing, but you guys gave me a mission I can get behind. I hate that term now, but I don't know of any other more fitting. The US is on a trajectory mirroring that of 1930s Germany. And if something isn't done soon to circumvent that, I worry what the repercussions would be not just for the US but for the whole world.

Donald Trump, early on, I don't remember exactly when it was, but it was a while ago, made this executive order where he was announcing a task force to weed out, quote, anti Christian bias, which sidebar really just is, is, is just a dog whistle for anti Christian nationalism bias. Yeah, yeah, because there's so many, like there are literally over 45, 000 Christian denominations, many of whom have different theological beliefs and different interpretations of scripture. Because let's be clear, the Bible's not very clear on a lot of things. If it were clear, there would be one denomination. It is not.

That's true. And also, I mean, I'm not sure how, I'm not sure how better it can get in America when like 85% of Congress is Christian. There's a quarter of a million churches in America. The in particular the Evangelical Christian church has its own like music industry, own publishing industry, own church industry. There are pastors, not all, not most, but some who make a lot, a lot, a lot of money. But yes, clearly, you know, we live in a society that is just full of anti Christian bias. The Passion of the Christ is like one of the highest grossing movies of all time. It's about Jesus getting flogged and crucified to death. It's a gory, gory, brutal movie which I saw when I was 13 by the way, because, you know, I had to bring my friends to get them saved. But yes, we live in a country full of Christian bias. Yep.

You know, this comes with the same people that claim Christian persecution despite there not being Christian persecution, because they equate that with accountability when they're being bigots and hateful. But I digress. So this past week there was some articles that were released where the Trump administration wants the State Department to start reporting on each other. Anti Christian bias at work. And they're really more specifically targeting colleagues who were there under Joe Biden's administration. And some of the examples that they gave as anti Christian bias were those who helped support vaccine requirements or, or used, you know, someone's correct pronouns or pro LGBTQ policies. They are taking those as being anti Christian despite the fact that you and I are Christian and there are many, many Christians in America who are LGBTQ affirming and also pro science and support vaccines. I don't think either of those issues are a Christian issue unless you're a Christian nationalist.

Carolyn Levitt details the distinct shift in how Donald J. Trump and the White House is observing Holy Week after former President Biden set off a firestorm by proclaiming Easter Sunday last year as Transgender Day of Visibility. Oh, my God, these people are still talking about how Trans Day of Visibility, which is always on March 31, happened to fall on Easter last year. And they were like, my gosh, they're trying to overtake Easter? No, that's just how calendars work, my friend.

Lied at least 10 times about Trump's economic policies and tariffs, said Iran must agree to President Trump's Demand or that will be all hell to pay. Pushed back against a 9 to 0 Supreme Court ruling which said it's the Trump administration's job to bring a wrongly deported and imprisoned man. That's Kilmar Abrego Garcia, back from El Salvador. Like, there, there's. There's no. The fruit is rotten is what I'm trying to say, ultimately. Right. Like, you know, again, we can just use the Bible to talk about this stuff. The Bible talks about over and over. Jesus talks about this over and over. A rotten tree bears rotten fruit. A good tree bears good fruit. The fact that Carolyn has the audacity to take the name of Jesus in vain as she says something that pays lip service to a crucified Jewish man who was unhoused, who was killed by the state, who taught us to love our enemies, who taught us to liberate the oppressed, who said that what you do for the least of these, you do unto me. The fact that she has the audacity to invoke his name and walk out there and then dehumanize the least of these, that she has the audacity to lie to the American people, to treat her quote, unquote, political enemies with disdain and disrespectful. It is. It is bewildering. Yeah, bewildering that we are here as a country.

One more observation I wanted to tell you about, then we can wrap it up, is that I have been, you know, I track a lot of like the, the apologetics world in, in evangelicalism, your Sean McDowell's, Melissa Dod, etc, these people are not talking about what Trump is currently doing. They're too busy talking about gay people and about, you know, the biblical inerrancy and the problem of prosperity. Gospel preachers, which by the way, is a problem, but like, it's just so clear that they are not really concerned about the things that Jesus talks about over and over and over again. And I think that's why so many of us left it ultimately, April, you know, I think that's why so many of us said, I can't stay here because this Christianity I'm a part of is completely defunct. Like something is way wrong. And we're laughing at this lady singing this prayer or this song about Tesla, but it is, these ideas are held widely in white Christian spaces. And it's why we left. It's why we said, no, I can't do it anymore because of my faith to Jesus.

Like, we have to get radical, not in the violent sense, obviously, but in the sense of action, of doing whatever we can in nonviolent ways to protest, to defend our neighbors. You should be, as much as you can be within your, your own ability to be as thoughtful as possible, to work with local communities, organizations, to fight for the well being of all your neighbors. Because it's only going to get worse, friends. And I have to be honest about that. Like, this is just the beginning of a very long four years.
