Studio 6:00pm, Rockefeller center in the heart of New York City. It's the Tonight show, starring Jimmy Fallon. Tonight joins Jimmy and his guests. Chelsea Hammond, Billy Porter, Matthew Pickchuck, Patrick d. Legendary roots. 29 seconds. And now, here he is. Jimmy, welcome to the Tonight Show. Thank you. Well, guys, I'm having an odd day this morning. I got an email from NBC asking what I accomplished last week. Yep, everyone's talking about this. On Saturday, Elon Musk sent an email to all federal workers asking them to reply with five things they accomplished in the last week or risk being fired. Of course, the workers were furious, mostly about getting a work email on a Saturday. But yet they need to respond with five accomplishments from the last week. Federal workers wrote back. I received this email. I opened this email. I read this email. I laughed at this email, and I deleted this email. 5. There's 5. The deadline for workers to respond is tonight at midnight. It's hard to take it seriously when you're stealing rules from Cinderella. How much more of a pumpkin can I turn into? Find out at 1201. Yep, Elon Musk wants every federal employee to list five things they did last week to prove their value, while Elon himself is a federal employee. So we went ahead and put together a recap of his weekly schedule. Check it out. Sunday layoffs. Monday, speech. Tuesday layoffs. Wednesday, post some memes. Thursday, fire fda, get bird flew from rfk. Friday, get some brunch with ye. He's now in charge of the CIA Run the country just like Twitter. Make Trump my son's babysitter. Hang with Miller, brawl with Bannon. Have more children than Nick Cannon. Bring a chainsaw. Two seat pack, give Trump haircut. Get the back. Launch a rocket, build a car. Both exploded. Firing, firing. Feeling glee. Trump just said, you complete me. Firing hiling feeling glad like the sun I've never had. Cut meme, layoff, money spent. Doge cut layoff, weird accent. Cut meme, fake news, time to sleep. Here's hoping I don't fire me. Little recap. Yeah, capping it up. Thank you very much. Hey, did you guys see this? Today, hackers played an AI video of President Trump rubbing and kissing Elon Musk's feet on television screens at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The White House believes the video was created by a disgruntled employee. So that narrows it down to the entire federal workforce. Switching gears to some entertainment news, DC Studios just announced that they are working on two new Batman movies. Yeah, and the next movie, the Batmobile, goes up to A cybertruck like who did this to you? Some sports news. Major League Baseball's spring training just got underway and they're using robotic umpires to help call balls and strikes. Anyway, if you want to know what a robot looks like dressed as an umpire, here you go. Speaking of baseball, for the first time in nearly 50 years, the new York Yankees are now allowing players to grow well groomed beards. Man, if this doesn't get people fired up about baseball, I don't know what will. And finally, doctors are warning against a new viral TikTok trend in which users are dropping heavy objects on their feet. You know, at a certain point, we just have to let evolution do its thing. We have a great show. Give it up for the roof. Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only enterprise Senegalese, the Evan Leone invested death. Yeah, that's the best year. Love us, President Quest. Don't. That's right. Sounding great. What a great show we have tonight. Some of my favorites are on the show tonight. She is a hilarious comedian and New York Times best selling author. Her new book I'll have what she's having is available now. Chelsea Handler is here tonight. Plus he is an award winning actor currently starring in the new play Ghost which is in previews now and opens March 10 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre at Lincoln Center. Billy Crudup is joining us. One of the best actors in the world. I love that guy. He's an NHL all star from the reigning champion Florida Panthers. He also just represented Team USA in the first ever Four Nations Face off which was watched by over 16 million people. Matthew Tkachuk is here tonight. He's awesome. Speaking of great music, I was so honored to be part of this. This past Friday I was the host of snl. Had a giant concert at Radio City. Snl. Oh, I got a bunch of cards here. A bunch of pictures. SNL50 homecoming it was called. I saw you there hig. I was there. Yeah. It was one of the most exciting, best concerts I've ever seen in my entire life. The Roots were the house band. Every single song. I don't know how you did it. I came out, I hosted the show. I knew that Aykroyd wasn't coming, but I wanted to give a tribute to him and the Blues Brothers. So I opened up with the Blues Brothers. I did Soul man and I danced like John Belushi and I was. I love John Bellucci. I love. And I was out of breath for the rest of the concert. But then. But it was so fun as I was doing it, you know, I'm doing it, trying to go as crazy as I can, you know? And as I was looking, I see Chevy Chase and he goes, aw, it's those little things, man. You don't forget that. I'll never forget that he did that. It was so cool of him to do that. Then I got to introduce Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard. That was unbelievable. They did a tribute to Queen's crazy Little Thing Called Love. And then she did Flowers. She just. Unbelievable. She's a pro. Miley Cyrus. Unbelievable. Yeah. So that's not enough. Everyone right there. If I went home, I'd be happy. Yeah. Me doing out of Breath, Blues Brothers. Right, Right. Miley Cyrus doing Flowers. Go home. No. Bad Bunny comes out, crushes it, Crushes it. He's great. He's a stud. He just knows how to do it. Then Eddie Vedder comes out. And that, by the way, Eddie Vedder did a tribute to Tom Petty. Tom Petty, yeah. Oh, God, it was beautiful. And then he did a version of Corduroy with Captain Kirk on shredding on guitar so bad. That was one of the. That was one of the highlights of the whole night for me, was seeing you shred. The audience went crazy. It was so impressive. I'm just gonna run. I'll run down real fast. Who was there? Backstreet Boys. Oh, they destroyed. Oh, these are all photos. Sorry. These are photos about my story. Sorry if you missed that. Yeah. That's music. Blues, brother. Yep, yep. That's Miley Cyrus. Yeah. Powers. That's Bad Bunny. Yeah. All right, so we're up to here. This is Backstreet Boys. Backstreet Boys killed so hard that I couldn't believe that. They killed. They destroyed.
Chelsea Handler
Destroyed.
Jimmy Fallon
They destroyed everyone. 5,000 people in radio City, all with their eyes closed, going, singing, you are my fire. It destroyed. And I tell you. Oh, my God, Backstreet's back tonight. They were great. They were great. Then I had to talk a little bit and hear as they set up for Mumford and Sons. And so they go, jimmy, just riff on something. And so, okay, great. So they go. Go to this stage. So I go off to the stage. They go, who will be there? You'll see Seinfeld. And then Keith Richards might be over there, and then your wife might be sitting there. And then Adam Sandler. I go, this is great. I'll do an impression of Jerry Seinfeld. I'll do Mick Jagger for Keith Richards. I'll say hi to my wife. And then I go, hey, hey, boy.
Matthew Tkachuk
Hey.
Jimmy Fallon
Ooh. To Adam Sandler. Win, win, win. Yeah. It's like impression, ping pong or pinball. So I go there I go, great. I go to the thing. Nika is our stage manager. And she goes, all right, there you go in action. Jerry Seinfeld, always class act. I do. Oh, we're here. We're going to be doing. He does. Yes, I know. He's funny. He's laughing. Jess is great and laughing. And then as I'm walking down, you go, no, Sandler. I go, he's not. Adam's not here. No. Yes. I'm ending on Sandler. He's not there. I go, is Keith. And you go, no, no. Keith. And I go, is my what? And no, it's live. It's live tv. So I'm like, any. And I don't know, anyone who's there now might be seat fillers maybe while they're going to the bathroom or something. So I'm just like. Anyway, I once was on the show Saturday Night Live. I'm like, what am I talking about? So then I go up to intro Mumford and Sons. And I'm assuming they're gonna have like, blah, blah, blah. You know, they sold 10 million records, this whole thing. They won Grammys. But Lauren doesn't like that stuff. So it says, ladies and gentlemen, Mumford. Yeah, that's my intro. I go, ladies and gentlemen, Mumford and stunts. I see Marcus Mumford, he goes, that was a great intro to us. How long have we known each other? That was a fantastic one. You really put a lot of thought into that. Then I think one of my favorites, Bonnie Raitt. Bonnie Raitt, Thing Called Love. And then did I Can't make youe Love Me with Chris Martin. Oh, just great. Then Post Malone reunites with Nirvana. Post Malone reunites with Nirvana. It's the most insane thing ever. I go, I got. Cause I'm backstage, I'm kind of missing the whole concert. I go, I gotta get out there and see this. So I sneak back in front of the stage from backstage on the side, and I go, it's crazy loud and just awesome. Post Malone, Dave Grohl going crazy. Chris crushing. Oh, it's the best. And they crush it. And everyone's like, yeah. And they get off stage and they're rock stars. And they get brought around. And they get brought around right where I'm standing. So they're all sweaty and rock stars. And Chris goes, hey, Jimmy. I go, no, no. I'm out here to say in posts, like, what's up, man. I go, no, no, go be rock stars or whatever. But they got out of the way and they were just rock stars. Could have ended there, but it didn't. David Byrne and Robin. Oh, wow. And then they did the dance together and it was awesome and it looked good. Then Cher, When I tell you, dude, mind blowing. Does she sound so good but also looks phenomenal. Everyone in the crowd was like, what are we looking at? Is this a hologram? Is this a hologram? Yeah, this was real. She was so good. That's Cher. Only Cher could do that. Then Lady Gaga comes out and then the show ended better than anything. I was like, it was just, how are we going to do this? Jack White performed a version of Rockin in the Free World into Seven Nation army. Dude. It could have gone on forever. It was the greatest thing ever. And then right as I was finished, I went back to find you guys because I was just hoping you were alive because you did one of the greatest, best performances I've ever seen you do. Roots tonight wouldn't be anything without you. The best. Great directing. Beth McCarthy Miller. Thank you, Sarah Live. I'm just honored to be part of that whole thing. We'll be right back with more tonight show. Come on over, guys. Yes, the card. Yes, the.
Chelsea Handler
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
The fun kids are running a mill. Cause he has the bill. Yeah. Our first guest is a Grammy nominated comedian and a six time New York Times bestselling author. Her new book, I'll have what she's having is available now. Please welcome Chelsea Handler. Chelsea Handler, welcome back. Thanks for coming on. We have a lot to discuss here. We have a new book. But before we get into any of this, I think officially now, at past midnight, it is your birthday. Happy birthday to you.
Billy Crudup
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Happy birthday.
Billy Crudup
Thank you, Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a big deal birthday.
Billy Crudup
It's a big deal birthday. You guys.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm 50. Yes. You look phenomenal. Stop. Are you 50? Yeah.
Billy Crudup
Are you 50?
Jimmy Fallon
I'm 50 a couple months ago. I'm 50. I'm sorry.
Billy Crudup
We're on the same track.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. But you look fantastic.
Billy Crudup
I know. Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. You're welcome.
Billy Crudup
I've been working very hard on my looks.
Jimmy Fallon
Are you. What are you doing for 50? Are you doing a party?
Billy Crudup
I'm having a lot of parties. I decided to embrace it and just throw parties all year long, you know, and celebrate myself. I mean, who else is gonna celebrate me like I can. Nobody.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes, that's right.
Billy Crudup
That's right. So I'm embracing it. I'm having. I had a Party already in Whistler. I'm having one in New York, one in la. Oh, my God. Just keep doing it. You know, I'm happy to be alive. I'm happy to be thriving. I'm happy that I don't have children. I don't have a husband. I mean, things are going great.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. You're happy, you're loving. This is it.
Billy Crudup
I mean, I just got here, so just.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, hold the. Sorry. Calm down. Yes.
Billy Crudup
Give me a minute to enjoy it. But, yes. Yes, I'm very excited about the future. I mean, I'm going to be. I'm very excited about the level of optimism I have about the future.
Jimmy Fallon
I will say that when we talk about this book, it's a very optimistic book.
Billy Crudup
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
And I loved it. It's got jokes, obviously, but it's also some deep stuff in here. But before we get to the deep stuff, every year around your birthday, you do something you love. Skiing.
Billy Crudup
I love skiing.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. And you always post a nice video of you skiing, and we all root for you. And I go, gosh, I just love Chelsea Hamlin. She's always. Here's you. It was a couple years ago. You ski topless and holding a drink. What are you drinking there? Is that.
Billy Crudup
A margarita is in one hand and then a joint is in the other hand.
Jimmy Fallon
I'll have what she's having, by the way. Yeah, it makes sense now. But then y. And was this. I don't know. This is last year. But this is you skiing with a bikini and a dog.
Billy Crudup
Yes, that's Bernice. Bernice, My old dog. She's no longer with us. But that was her last hurrah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Billy Crudup
Yeah, but she. I mean, look, she went out with a bang, though.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Yeah. It wasn't from this.
Chelsea Handler
No.
Jimmy Fallon
Natural. You should have Very daredevil. Didn't end with you had to do jumps.
Billy Crudup
We were done skiing, and then she was gone.
Jimmy Fallon
Then this is my favorite. I think this is maybe last year. You were skiing with two dogs.
Billy Crudup
Oh, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Chelsea, who does this?
Billy Crudup
It was heavy. I had to put the margarita and the joint down so that I could handle both dogs. So Bernice is the one on my back. And then Doug is my newest dog. And, you know, I wanted to get that dog. I love chows. And you know how I feel about black men. So I got. I finally have a black man to sleep with every night. I do. He's in my bed every night. And I love it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. What do you plan to do for 50? This is tomorrow. You'll be posting.
Billy Crudup
I Am posting a new ski video. I worked very hard for it. It was quite a production. And it wasn't just me. I got a whole group of people to do what I do with me.
Jimmy Fallon
No way. Of course, you gotta go big.
Billy Crudup
Absolutely.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, happy, happy, happy 50th and many, many more.
Billy Crudup
Thank you, Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon
Let's talk about the new book. I'll have what she's having. I like. I'll have what she's having. Of course, of course. Thought it was from Harry Met Sally.
Billy Crudup
I thought it is a little bit. It's a reference to that, but it is. I didn't come up with the name, actually, my editor did. She read the book and she said, after I'm done with this, I just want what you have. And I said, I can't name a book I can't name, self proclaim, I want what I have. And she said, absolutely, you have to. When you're done reading this book, you want what you have. And I was like, ok, great. I'm gonna tell this story everywhere I go. So everybody knows. I didn't come up with that title. No, you didn't, but it is. I wanted to inject everybody with a little bit of optimism and womanhood and sisterhood and talk about how powerful it is to be a woman, you know.
Jimmy Fallon
Did this start with this in mind when you started writing this book?
Billy Crudup
Yeah, I mean, I was writing. I was thinking, do I have anything new to say? This is my seventh book, so I've written many books, but I don't like to put anything out unless I really have something new to say. And I've come a long way. And now that I'm 50, I felt like I have a message for women. I want to inspire people. I want people to be as confident as I am. I wish I could inject every little girl with the confidence that I have because I want everyone to walk around with their head up high, you know?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Billy Crudup
That would make the world a better place.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Billy Crudup
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
So I would love that.
Billy Crudup
So it's. Yeah. So I'm very. I'm excited, I'm happy and it's a great way to celebrate my birthday to release a new book.
Jimmy Fallon
It really is. Yeah. In the book you have a very funny story about kind of starting to work at around business mind at around 10, I want to say.
Billy Crudup
Yeah, yeah. Well, I looked at my family, I was very disappointed. When I was born, coming home to my family, there were already five other children. I'm like, who are all these people? You know, I realized I was the sixth child instead of the first one. So I was pissed. And then my parents seemed very disorganized, like they didn't really have a job. And I'm like, what are these two doing? Do we even have a savings account? Like, what's the game plan? And then I realized early on we were not on the same page. You know what I mean? I needed a bigger life, so I started a lemonade business because I was only 10.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Billy Crudup
And it's illegal to work, so I had to look at the low hanging fruit.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Billy Crudup
So I started a lemonade stand. And pretty quickly I realized that the profit margin wasn't great. So I decided to start a hard lemonade stand where I served gin, whiskey, and tequila with the lemonade to any of the parents of the children that came by, and any kid who was over 10, obviously. And I made a fortune. I enlisted this little neighbor kid. His name was Nelson. I enlisted him. I said, come on, Nelson. Do you want to work with me and partner on my business? And we made $359. Yeah. In our first week on Martha's vineyard, we made $359. I gave Nelson his commission at the end of the week, which was $3.59.
Jimmy Fallon
That's life.
Billy Crudup
And I was like, okay, this is my business. And I just kept working and working and working. So I. And then eventually, I was able to get away from my family.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you did. In here, you talk about one of your first big splurges, and this is something. I think it was a flight to your grandfather's funeral.
Billy Crudup
No, it wasn't my grandfather's funeral, but my grandfather was sick, and we were going to California, and I. Is that funny? And I went. I saw. I walked past the first class cabin, and I realized that that's. You know, I sniffed it, and I was like, this is my space. You know, These are my people. And my mother was shoving me to the back, and she's like, these are not your. Like, we will never, ever be able to afford to fly first class. I'm like, speak for yourself, bitch. Okay. And then I started. That's when I came back from that trip. I'm like, I'm gonna have to make my own money because I am gonna sit in that section. And I haven't flown coach since I was 10.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm telling you about. That's what you gotta do.
Billy Crudup
Yep.
Jimmy Fallon
It is funny. It is charming. It's everything Chelsea Handler is. We're so lucky to have you. On this earth, 50 years. You're the best. Happy birthday. Congrats on everything. Oh, real quick, what's under your tour?
Billy Crudup
My tour? You love a big tour. I'm gonna have a European tour in my Vegas residency. You can go to chelseahandler.com for any tickets for anything.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. All right, good. Check it out. Chelsea Handler, everybody. All have what she's having is out now. Billy Crudup joins us after the break. Stick around. Yes. I swing slow as a cut clown and it's too quick to bite and record the fight. And our next guest is a Tony and Emmy winning actor. You can see in the play Ghosts, which is in previews now and opens March 10 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center. Everyone, please welcome Billy Prudhup of the best, one of the best ever. You're a stud, Billy Crudup. Welcome back to the show. Look at you with a beard. Yeah, that's a real beard.
Chelsea Handler
Well, kind of. You know, it comes in a little patchy, and I don't know if you can see, but I've got some grays.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Yeah, you got a. Just a couple grays. Yeah.
Chelsea Handler
One of my colleagues pointed out that I look like a emperor tamarind monkey. You guys can look that up on your phone now.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. All right. We support other devices here at the show. Oh, yeah, sure. You can do it while you're watching on your phone. Look up.
Chelsea Handler
I'm sure it'll happen.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Emperor. What is it?
Chelsea Handler
Emperor.
Jimmy Fallon
Emperor tamarind.
Chelsea Handler
Cameron monkey. Yeah, they're playful monkeys.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you're fun. When I first met you, Chelsea was.
Chelsea Handler
Here to bring the charm in the comedy. She was here to bring the tragedy.
Jimmy Fallon
Just the comedy. No, no, no. And I want to talk about your career. Broadway. Look, you're.
Chelsea Handler
Oh, terrific. Let's get going. Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, we are. I was gonna say, the first time I met you, you had a great mustache.
Chelsea Handler
Oh, that was a good one.
Jimmy Fallon
This is Almost Famous. That's you.
Chelsea Handler
That was all me. That's me. This is what happens in life, guys.
Jimmy Fallon
And you said that this is. This was your first mustache?
Chelsea Handler
That was my first mustache. I wore a fake mustache for a movie called Without Limits, which was about a runner named Steve Prefontaine. Yes, but that was my first attempt at a real mustache.
Jimmy Fallon
This is my first attempt at a real mustache.
Chelsea Handler
Oh, yeah, huh?
Jimmy Fallon
That's real wispy.
Chelsea Handler
You keep trying, Kim.
Jimmy Fallon
Keep trying, kid. Yeah, yeah. You're doing great. I can't wait to see. First of all, congrats on Your second Emmy win. Hey, thank you for the morning trip. All right. You are so good on that. They love Emmys. They love Emmys. No, they love the morning show.
Chelsea Handler
Ah, the morning.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. No spoilers. But will this facial hair be on the negative?
Chelsea Handler
They don't let Corey age. Cory is the character that I play on the morning show, and they want him to look a little different.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. Okay. All right. There's no spoilers there. Yeah. I want to talk about.
Chelsea Handler
But we did finish shooting the fourth season, so it'll be out sometime soon.
Jimmy Fallon
Good. But in the meantime, you can see Billy Crudup on stage in Ghosts. It's in previews now. It opens March 10th. It's playing in Lincoln center, where you made your Broadway debut 30 years ago.
Chelsea Handler
That's exactly right. Now, I don't know if you guys are into Ibsen and the classics, but this is.
Jimmy Fallon
Hold your applause. A great place. Til he's finished.
Chelsea Handler
Listen, the Ibsen fans are respectful. They're respective. When his name comes up, they are. They sit silent.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Chelsea Handler
Like the audiences that come to see ghosts. You all right?
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Chelsea Handler
Is it theater that you're.
Jimmy Fallon
This theater talk doesn't throw me, Billy.
Chelsea Handler
Because I. Oh, you've spent some time on stage, haven't you, recently?
Jimmy Fallon
I was just on Broadway. Did a run on Broadway three weeks ago. 2. Three weeks ago, I think.
Chelsea Handler
How long was the run?
Jimmy Fallon
It was a long. I did eight. Eight shows.
Chelsea Handler
Eight. So you.
Jimmy Fallon
I did it. All right. For. For those. Thank you very much.
Chelsea Handler
Yeah, for the.
Billy Crudup
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh.
Chelsea Handler
One of our great American thespians right here, Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon
It was unbelievable. Now, we both know Broadway and so speak of the stage boards, we've had.
Chelsea Handler
The exact same experiences. One of the things that, of course you'll get this about the classics is this guy Henrik. Henrik Ibsen. Again, big fans. They're respectable.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Chelsea Handler
He wrote this in 1880. And they keep doing this play and they keep doing all of his plays. In fact, I think A Doll's House, which is another one of his plays. More fans out there. In 2006, it was the most produced play in the world, and they keep returning to it because the themes that he explores are really impactful about social dynamics. When there's change and power structures, what happens at home, the drama that unfolds there. And it's so good that six generations later, we're still doing it.
Jimmy Fallon
Who wrote this version?
Chelsea Handler
Well, so. Mark O. Roe. Yeah, it's true. Because he was Norwegian and I speak a lot of languages, but not Norwegian.
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Chelsea Handler
So we needed An English translation, and it was written by Mark Oro, who's a fantastic Irish playwright, and he did a really gorgeous rendering of it. So for those of you who don't want the charm of Chelsea's show, you can come and cry your brains out.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. No.
Chelsea Handler
At our rendering of Henrik Ibsen's Golf.
Jimmy Fallon
He's one of the best to ever do it. If you ever get a chance to go see Billy Crudup live, do it. I've done it many times, and always movie.
Chelsea Handler
You're gonna come to this one?
Jimmy Fallon
I'm just busy, that's all. I just. I really have a lot of things going on. I mean, your show's still running. My show. I did. Look, I did. I worked hard. Can we.
Chelsea Handler
You know, I did a stopper trilogy for nine months. Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
I did eight. Thank you.
Chelsea Handler
@ nine months at theater.
Jimmy Fallon
I did eight shows. I did eight. Eight shows in a row.
Chelsea Handler
Good job, Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon
Good job. Four, five, six, who do we appreciate? Me on Broadway. But, Billy, here's what's great, and you're really gonna like this.
Chelsea Handler
I didn't know there was a cheer coming.
Jimmy Fallon
I got. Me neither. But I got my portrait up at Sardi's. Isn't that amazing? They recognized my contribution to Broadway. And with a little pressuring.
Chelsea Handler
How was the ceremony?
Jimmy Fallon
It was beautiful. Lin Manuel Miranda came to support me. There was photos. It was on broadway.com.
Chelsea Handler
For 30 years, I've been doing plays in New York, and I can't get my picture up there.
Jimmy Fallon
Sardis. Sardis is a tradition. Thank you. Sardis is a tradition. Once you go, apparently, once you appear.
Chelsea Handler
Once on stage in New York, but if you appear too often, you don't get to have it.
Jimmy Fallon
No, you go. And then you go to Sardis after you get the reviews, and you wait. You go around Sardis, and it's a big deal. And I just really wanted to get the full Broadway experience. So I was so happy and thankful to everyone at Sardis and just. I just feel like I really made it.
Chelsea Handler
You certainly did. And Sardis is an institution, and you're right to be reverent about it.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you. Well, Billy, we actually talked to the. We talked to the owner.
Chelsea Handler
Oh, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Max.
Chelsea Handler
Really?
Jimmy Fallon
At Sardis?
Chelsea Handler
No.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Chelsea Handler
Is this gonna be. This is gonna be a picture of you, right?
Jimmy Fallon
I wish it was. I wish it was. That would be a great. But this is going to be a big moment for you, buddy, because guess what? You're going to be on the wall at Sardi. Come on. That's the real deal. Real. Come on. I got action. Come on, bud. Dude, how great is that? This is real quest. This is a real thing. This is a real. This is what I've been working for. This is good. This is it.
Chelsea Handler
We look the same, though, don't we?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Billy, I have to ask you to sign this.
Chelsea Handler
Oh, heck, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And inside the. There's a little.
Chelsea Handler
Yeah, I see it.
Jimmy Fallon
You see it. And write whatever you want to say there. Yeah. He wrote, finally, Billy Cruda.
Chelsea Handler
Billy Crutter.
Jimmy Fallon
This will be on the wall at Sardis starting tomorrow. So go to Sardis 44th between 7th and 8th. Go to Ghost at Lincoln Center. Go see Ghost and then go see his portrait at Sardis. The one and only Billy Crudup, everybody. March 10 at the Mitzi E Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center. More tonight, Joe, after the ring. Come on, come on, come on. Our next guest is an NHL All Star from the reigning champion Florida Panthers. He also just represented Team USA in the first ever Ford Nations Face off, which was watched by over 16 million people. Please welcome Matthew Tkachuk. Welcome to the show. We have a lot to get into. First off, you've been dealing with an injury, and I just wanted to make sure. Is everything okay? Are we feeling better?
Matthew Tkachuk
Yeah, I'm feeling better. Just recovering right now, but. But the last two weeks representing my country was something that I'll never forget.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, talk to me about that. I mean, this is a big. The Four Nations Face Off. Everyone was talking about this. Everyone watched, like 16 million people. When was the last time they did this?
Matthew Tkachuk
It's been 10 years, I think, since last international. The last international opportunity. So this is my ninth year in the league, so I've kind of gotten the short end of the stick on that.
Jimmy Fallon
You never had the opportunity.
Matthew Tkachuk
No, never had the opportunity. So I think, you know, myself and all the guys that were in this were just so jacked up for it. And I think that's why you saw the fights all at the beginning of that game against Canada. I think guys want to get their anger out of the way.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, they did. The first nine seconds of the game, there was like three fights.
Matthew Tkachuk
Yeah. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And you're one of them.
Matthew Tkachuk
I was one of them. My brother was one of them. So.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, dad was proud, huh?
Matthew Tkachuk
Yeah, I think he was pretty proud.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I agree. Yeah. But you said. You said in some interview that it was the big one. It was the biggest game you ever played in. You won the Stanley Cup. Yeah, this was bigger.
Matthew Tkachuk
It really was such a big tournament and such a huge stage. And something that I'll never forget, and just the thing that I'm most proud of with that team was how much pride we showed in representing our country and being Americans. We're so lucky to be from this great country and to be able to represent.
Jimmy Fallon
It must feel cool to put that jersey on.
Matthew Tkachuk
Yeah. Just to be able to represent and look down and see the USA crest. It's nothing, you know, there's nothing that'll beat that, so it's incredible.
Jimmy Fallon
And you get to play with your brother.
Matthew Tkachuk
Yeah. Yeah. It's been.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you ever play together?
Matthew Tkachuk
Never. It was our first time we played an All Star Game together, but that's fake, so it was our first ever opportunity. And we grew up, like, always, competing against each other and dreaming about eventually one day, he plays in Ottawa, I'm in Florida, so. We knew he'd be tough for the regular season, but we always had the dreams of playing with each other. And, you know, it finally came true.
Jimmy Fallon
When you won the Stanley Cup. There was a shot of your dad. I just wanted to show everyone. Here's a picture of your dad at Game seven. He got emotional there.
Matthew Tkachuk
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Proud dad.
Matthew Tkachuk
I think that's the only time I've ever seen him cry.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And now I'm showing it on national television again.
Matthew Tkachuk
And then my brother was crying there, too, which I haven't seen him cry since. Playing mini sticks in the basement and throwing them through the walls.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Must've been a lot of holes in the wall when growing up.
Matthew Tkachuk
There were a lot that was. Mom was not too happy with that, so then we had to bring it outside and play roller hockey.
Jimmy Fallon
But your dad was a legend.
Matthew Tkachuk
Yeah. And he played 19 years and was one of the best players of all time and one of the best Americans of all time. And he, unfortunately, never got the chance to win the Cup. And I don't think he would change a thing to see one of his boys lift that trophy. And. And one of the coolest moments I had was after that, on the ice, having my whole family out there with me, and. I don't know, I had the cup in my hands for some reason. This was after all the celebrating, and I got to hand it to him. And it was one of the most special moments of my life.
Jimmy Fallon
Buddy. Come on, Matthews. Sit back. That's the best moment. I gotta ask you about this, because the Olympics coming up, I mean, is this a possibility? I mean, what are we thinking about?
Matthew Tkachuk
Well, I mean, after this term at the Four Nations. First of all, there's so many great countries with so many great players, and you look up and down all these lineups and, you know, there's so many countries that have a chance to win with the star studded roster that they have. But I truly believe in our team and, you know, we got so close with this tournament and, you know, looking at next year being, you know, kind of a chance at redemption. But I truly believe in our chances. And just like I said, wearing the USA Crescent like there is nothing like it and we have so much pride in it and we'll be ready to go.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And next time I see you, you'll have gold around your neck and there'll be nothing like that.
Matthew Tkachuk
I hope so.
Jimmy Fallon
