Enjoy yourself.
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the tonight show. That's right. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Once again, oh, my gosh. Happy Thanksgiving.
I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for all of you here with me tonight. And mostly, I'm thankful that we're near the end of hearing 6 7.
I am so thankful.
Let's get over it. What a special night this is. I'm here wearing a suit while the rest of the country isn't wearing pants. I think it's him. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It's that special day when your uncle pulls up in a cybertruck with his new girlfriend, and the rest of the family's like, whew, it's gonna be a long dinner. Yeah. Right now, there's two types of family members you're dealing with. The relatives who won't leave and the cousins who went for a walk after dinner and never came back. Of course, every year, there's always that one relative that makes you try their new recipe out loud. You're like, this stuffing is delicious. And in your head, you're like, is this stovetop or memory foam? I don't know. Is someone missing a neck P What's happening? I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. It's nice to get everyone together. And we actually got our hands on the seating chart from this year's Thanksgiving table. Oh, yeah, Take a look. At the head of the table, it's dad who checks his draftkings and says, hey, wouldn't it be fun to live in a smaller house? Wouldn't that be fun? Then there's a vegan cousin who's blackout drunk. Cause all they can eat is vodka. I don't touch this stuff. Next, there's grandpa, whose one heart sneeze away from the great beyond.
Goodbye, everybody.
There's also cousin who wouldn't shut up about crypto last year, who's awfully quiet this year. And finally, there's mom drinking weed seltzer out of a Stanley tumbler. To have everyone together at the table. It's always fun. Actually, I actually read that this Thanksgiving, more Americans opted for marijuana over beer and wine. Weed on Thanksgiving because when you're operating a deep fryer and an electric knife, you definitely want to Be on something. I just think it's smart. Well, this was fun. Today was the 99th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I love the parade. My favorite, thanks to Ozempic, all The balloons were 20% smaller. Doughboy has cheekbones. Who knew that? And finally, a lot of Americans are being hit by arctic weather due to a polar vortex moving across the country. As soon as I said that, everyone just looked at their relatives like, oh, my God, they're never leaving. We have a great show.
Give it up for the Roots, everybody.
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody, and thank you so much for watching.
What a show we have here tonight.
He's a multiple Grammy winner, one of the biggest musicians on the planet. His new special, one shot with Ed Sheeran is streaming now on Netflix.

Volume 1 of the fifth and final.
Season is streaming right now on Netflix.
Joe Keery is joining us tonight. That's the show, guys.
Today's a day all about giving thanks. So I thought, what better day to write up my weekly thank you notes than right now? Do you guys mind?
Is that all right?
James, do you have any thank you writing music, please, for me?
Wow.
Ah, fantastic attitude. Is his gratitude. Yeah. Thank you, cloth napkins, for letting me wipe my face with a blouse from Talbots. Thank you, casseroles for proving that if you mix enough ingredients together, nobody can tell you don't know what you're doing.
Gotcha.
Tater tots.
Yeah. Tater tots on top.
Breakfast. Sausage, eggs, tuna, potato chips. Potato chips in there? Yeah. Pretzel.
Joe Keery
Soy sauce.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Soy sauce.
Yeah.
A roll of lifesavers? Why not? If you find. You'll love it, you'll love it.
Phil Barentini
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you, Thanksgiving, for posing the same question we encounter every election season. Which political party will dominate the house? There. Thank you, gravy boats for being snobby. Coffee mugs.
Joe Keery
Coffee.
Jimmy Fallon
And for gravy. Yeah, not for coffee. Or cream, please. Or cream or juice. That is so funny. We have fun. We have fun here.
Ed Sheeran
We have fun.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you, can of cranberry sauce for being the only food I have to burp like a baby. Thank you, Thanksgiving flights getting canceled. Or as turkeys put it, well, well, well. Now who can't fly?
There you have it, everybody.
Those are my thank you notes.
We'll be right back with Ed Sheeran. Come. Just to let you know, elephant and Wolf create a bath A legend of the sun and the moon yeah. Our first guest is one of the.
Biggest musicians on the planet. He's sold over 200 million records and won multiple Grammys. He has a new special called One Shot with Ed Sheeran. It's streaming now on Netflix. Everyone, please welcome Ed Sheeran.
Ah, man.
A standing ovation for Ed Sheeran. Nice to see you, buddy. Nice to see you, bud. Welcome back to the show and happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for joining us on Thanksgiving.
Ed Sheeran
Happy Thanksgiving.
Jimmy Fallon
Happy Thanksgiving. Yeah. Over the years, have you been in the States for Thanksgiving?
Ed Sheeran
I've done one Thanksgiving here. Yeah. In 2013. But other than that. Yeah, Just one.
Jimmy Fallon
So this means this is now. This is official on our show.
Ed Sheeran
It's official.
Jimmy Fallon
What do you think of Thanksgiving?
Ed Sheeran
I question the marshmallows and the sweet potato.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. Yeah, yeah, me too.
Ed Sheeran
I know it's a tradition, but I question it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I question it as well. Yeah. We got to see each other a couple weeks ago at the Knicks game.
Joe Keery
Yeah.
Ed Sheeran
That was random because I had this empty seat next to me for, like, the first 10 minutes of the game, and then suddenly I'm just like, oh, hey, Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon
It was fun. It was a little stressful. I don't know. They gave us really great seats, and we were sitting next to the team.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah. I think, for me, basketball, we don't really have that in England, so to experience it like that is, like, incredible. Seeing the kind of.
Jimmy Fallon
They're giant. Huge.
Ed Sheeran
Yes, Huge.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. What's your team? Your soccer team?
Ed Sheeran
Ipswich Town Football Club. Let's go.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
All right. That's it. Yeah.
Ed Sheeran
As I said at the Knicks game, they're now your team.
Joe Keery
They are.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. That'll be my team.
Ed Sheeran
I know.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, That's.
Ed Sheeran
It's kind of like the Knicks. They never really do that.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, no, no, no.
Ed Sheeran
We want.
Jimmy Fallon
No, the Knicks have a shot. No, the Knicks have a shot this.
Ed Sheeran
Year, so do Ipswich, Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Yeah, we do. Yeah. I saw something on guitar.com, i think was the article that I. But someone. It went around Instagram and it said, ed Sheeran is inspiring more people to play the guitar than the Beatles. According to a new study, they looked at, like, songwriting apps and how to play guitar, and you have outdone all.
Ed Sheeran
Of these because that's a mad stat. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, that's a mad stat. I wanted to surprise you with that. I thought you'd be impressed yourself.
Ed Sheeran
Do you know what? I actually. I love that. My whole career and ethos is. I love meeting kids who are Just getting into music and being there, like, what do I do? And to be honest, I don't know that much about the guitar. I can play four or five chords quite well. And that's what I just say to them. I just say, learn the four or five chords. Most songs have these four or five chords in. And I think that when I was growing up, music just seemed. It was like reading music. And it was complicated. And I think that music. It can just be felt like the Beatles did not learn music theory. They just learned. They picked up a guitar and they. They just learned chords and feel. And I think that's so much of music. So that's a cool stat. I like that.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you're inspiring a lot of kids out there to pick up the guitar and play.
Ed Sheeran
That's good.
Jimmy Fallon
That's what it's all about. Since you've been on the show. You were on our show less than a year ago, and a lot has already happened. I mean, your new album, Play, came out. You were on the Time 100 list of most influential people. Uh, you've had songs in two movies. You had the song Drive in F1, which I loved.
Joe Keery
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I was like, that's it. I loved it. And then you have a new. You have a new song in Zootopia 2.
Ed Sheeran
I wrote. Yeah, I wrote with. Yeah, I've. You know what? I've collaborated with Shakira quite a lot over the years, but nothing's come out. And she was like, she's gazelle in Zootopia. And she said, they need a song for Zootopia 2. Would you write it with me? So me, my friend Blake and her wrote this song. I don't sing well, I kind of do sing on it, but background stuff, but no, I buzzed. I watched it the other day. I just. You know when you're like, I got kids and they like Zootopia. So there's something. They gave me a part in it as well. I'm a. I'm a. I'm a sheep.
Joe Keery
Ed Sheeran.
Jimmy Fallon
Ed Sheeran.
Phil Barentini
I get it.
Jimmy Fallon
I get it. It's. They're clever. They're clever.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah. I buzz with it. Like, it's. It's great. I'm.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you love. But I mean, not only you love movies, but I found this out, that you also collect movie memorabilia.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I didn't know this about you.
Ed Sheeran
No, I do.
Joe Keery
Yeah.
Ed Sheeran
Well, it started out. It used to be like every birthday I'd buy one prop and then it just sort of bled into. I just then. Just started getting Lots of props.
Jimmy Fallon
Like, what things do you own? Like, what's.
Ed Sheeran
I think the coolest thing that I own is I have the pan costume from Hook and Rufio's sword, which.
Jimmy Fallon
Robin Williams.
Ed Sheeran
Robin Williams, yeah. And I bought the Hook. I bought Hook's hat. I bought the note that Hook puts on Peter's hat.
Jimmy Fallon
You like that movie?
Ed Sheeran
I like Hook, yeah.
Joe Keery
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You like Hook?
Ed Sheeran
Yeah, stuff like that. I bought the original Jumanji set from the 97 film. So mostly Robin Williams stuff, to be honest.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Right. Oh, my gosh. What else do you like? Star wars stuff?
Ed Sheeran
Yeah, I bought C3PO. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You have a C3PO?
Ed Sheeran
He wasn't cheap.
Joe Keery
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
Not like a Lego C3PO.
Ed Sheeran
No, no, it wasn't from the old movies. It was from one of the new ones.
Joe Keery
Doesn't matter.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah, no, there's a few. So I got the retractable knife from Goodfellas from that first scene.
Joe Keery
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you have any superhero stuff?
Ed Sheeran
Yeah. Do you know what? So my favorite Batman film is everyone else's least favorite Batman film. I was six when it came out. It was Batman and Robin, the George Clooney one. And so all this memorabilia is sort of, like, up for grabs. So I got. I bought. Robin, bought Batgirl, bought Batman.
Phil Barentini
Yeah.
Ed Sheeran
I'm waiting on.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm waiting on Mr.
Joe Keery
Freeze. All right.
Jimmy Fallon
Mr. Freeze is the one you gotta get.
Ed Sheeran
Nice to see you.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. That is so funny.
Ed Sheeran
What a movie.
Jimmy Fallon
That's fantastic.
Ed Sheeran
I loved it.
Jimmy Fallon
You're about to go on tour again next year. This one's called the Loop Tour.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You love going on tour?
Ed Sheeran
Yeah, I kind of.
Phil Barentini
Yeah.
Ed Sheeran
I love playing live. I feel like the two things that make me happiest in my job are writing songs and playing live. And I feel like the. That I can just do them and less of everything else then it would be. Yeah, better. So I just tour and tour and tour.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. You're great at it. You might as well.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Before then, though, fans can see you right now because. Performing your new special.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
This is called One Shot with Ed Sheeran. Came out last week. Tell everyone what this thing is.
Ed Sheeran
I mean, it's essentially, it's a show that is all done with one camera and one shot.
Joe Keery
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
All in one shot. No edits.
Ed Sheeran
All in one shot.
Phil Barentini
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. So how difficult is it to pull off a movie in one shot?
Ed Sheeran
I mean, it definitely, like, has its challenges, but actually, it's probably easier if I just show you now. Can I borrow one of these cameras?
Jimmy Fallon
Sure. I mean, we'll Just. Yeah, we'll do it. Yeah, we don't normally. Don't normally do an interview like this with a one camera thing, but we'll try it. Now. How do you get inspired to do a special in one shot?
Ed Sheeran
Well, I got asked to do, like, a concert special in a theater, and I just. I've seen that done before, and I've done that before, so I just wanted to do something different. I'd watched Adolescence and Boiling Point.
Jimmy Fallon
Brilliant.
Ed Sheeran
And it's this guy, Phil Barentini. We got in touch with Phil, he said he'd want to do it. So, yeah, we basically organized it to be done in New York, which is an iconic city for music, but also, like, it's a stressful city to film it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, this is the most energetic city.
Ed Sheeran
Well, I just wanted it to feel, like, challenging, if that makes sense, you know?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Because you actually can't have actors.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah, no, no, it's.
Jimmy Fallon
It's just.
Ed Sheeran
It's essentially just people on the street.
Joe Keery
Really.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Hey, can you please sign this?
Ed Sheeran
Absolutely. Yeah.
Joe Keery
Oh, that's nice.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. I mean, they aren't actors. Yeah. Could you sign this?
Joe Keery
Oh, cool.
Ed Sheeran
Tattoo, man. Yeah, definitely. Awesome. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, these people are like, if one person makes the wrong move or something like that, you have to kind of redo the whole thing.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah. So it was like. It was pretty.
Phil Barentini
Like, had a food delivery here and you decide for this.
Ed Sheeran
Thanks. Yeah, I mean, it was. I mean, it was stressful. We kind of had, like, what?
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my gosh. I got.
Joe Keery
Stole my purse.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh.
Ed Sheeran
It was like one of these things where you didn't really know what was gonna go on next.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you so much.
Joe Keery
Thank you. But I mean.
Jimmy Fallon
But then you'd have to redo. Do the whole thing if you. Yeah.
Ed Sheeran
So we only got.
Jimmy Fallon
Hey, are you Mun? Who's this?
Ed Sheeran
Go.
Joe Keery
Oh, yeah. Cool.
Jimmy Fallon
He's. He's my mun.
Ed Sheeran
You got some interesting friends.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. But, I mean, you come into the city.
Ed Sheeran
Do you mind if I just whistle for a second?
Jimmy Fallon
No, you can go for it if you like to. We always have a tree stump ready to go here if you want to whittling. But it's that energy that you just think, oh, my gosh, Ed, this is fantastic.
Ed Sheeran
I don't know. I've been whittling for a few years. It's like a hobby of mine that I quite like doing.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, let me just. But you got how many songs? I mean, you. You have to choose from so many songs.
Ed Sheeran
Probably about 14 songs that. That we Do. But the way that.
Jimmy Fallon
Nice one, man.
Ed Sheeran
The way that we choose it is we basically, you know, there's a party scene with the girls, so we use bad habits for the party scene. Let me just take this. 18 is in the taxi.
Phil Barentini
We do.
Jimmy Fallon
There you go, man.
You did a good job. There you go.
Yes. That's for you. Here you go. Happy Thanksgiving. There you go.
More with that after the break. Stick around. Good job. Welcome back, everybody. I'm here with Ed Sheeran and joining.
Us right now is the Emmy winning director of Ed special One shot with Ed Sheeran.
Joe Keery
Everyone.
Jimmy Fallon
Please welcome Phil Barentini. Welcome to the Tonight Show.
Phil Barentini
Thank you for having me.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you for coming on. I want to also, before we get into this, congratulate you on adolescence. That was.
Phil Barentini
Thank you, thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Phenomenal work.
Phil Barentini
Thank you, thank you. Means a lot.
Jimmy Fallon
That was phenomenal work. And it was done famously in one take.
Phil Barentini
Can you explain, you know, all about that? You just did?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, we know a little bit. We tried. We had one thing that didn't go perfectly. Right? Yeah, yeah.
Phil Barentini
But it adds to the show.
Jimmy Fallon
But what happens when that happens when you're doing, like, when you're doing one take, you can't edit it.
Phil Barentini
No, no, no, no. No edits.
Jimmy Fallon
And why is it? It's just exciting, right?
Phil Barentini
Well, yeah, it's exciting, but also, like, I think we're in a world where we're so used to watching things on multiple screens and like, you watch something and I'm guilty of it as well, you know, you watch something, put your one eye on the phone and stuff. I think with a one take. I watched a movie called Victoria years ago, a German film, and I remember the feeling it gave me when I was watching that movie that was all shot in one take. And I just couldn't take my eyes off the screen. And also you like, you sit up and pay attention, you know, And I think. I think we're so used to. There's so much content out there that when I make something, I want it to feel immersive and I want it to feel like it's, you know, it's happening in real time so that the audience are going on this journey in real time with these people.
Jimmy Fallon
And how much goes into something like this? Like, are there, like. Cause I saw some behind the scenes footage where you're doing the camera, then you're handing a camera to another person and they're handing it to another person and people are pulling it up the stairs and stuff.
Phil Barentini
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And you go, oh, my gosh, yeah. And then you get nervous. Like the last five, three to five minutes, you're like, so far it's going okay. Nobody make a mistake.
Phil Barentini
It's not just the three, five minutes. It's literally every second.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah.
Phil Barentini
You're like on the edge of your seat. You don't enjoy it, you know, at the time. And then you watch it back and it's like, oh, actually, it looks alright.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, that was fun. Yeah. How did you first meet up with Ed?
Phil Barentini
So basically I was shooting a movie in Malta and I got this text message, a voice note from Ben Winston, who runs. Yeah. Incredible. And I didn't know, obviously I knew who he was and I thought. I actually thought it was a scam. Cause he was like, we've got this idea for this one shot with Ed Sheeran. I was like, yeah, okay.
Joe Keery
All right.
Phil Barentini
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Pretty elaborate.
Phil Barentini
So I called him back. I was like, who is this? He's like, it's Ben Winston. I was like, oh, okay, I recognize his voice. And then, and then, and then he was like, do you want to do this thing? And I was, I was kind of like, I'm not sure if I want to do more of those, you know, the one take things just yet, but let me have a think about it.
Jimmy Fallon
Because you do other things with editing and.
Phil Barentini
Of course. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it doesn't lend itself to everything, the one shot. But you know, when it's done, you know, in a certain way, I think it can be very powerful.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Phil Barentini
But because this was not a drama, which is what I was used to, and it was Ed, and I'm a big fan of Ed. And I was like, you know what? Yeah, this could be fun.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you remember your pitch for this, Ed?
Ed Sheeran
Yeah, I. I just basically said like, I don't really. I'm not drawn to do music specials. I'm not like, I really want to create an hour long thing that is the same as everyone else's thing. So I basically said to Phil, like, either you do it and we make it or we just move on and nothing gets made. And it's basically that's. That was the only thing I wanted to do.
Jimmy Fallon
I focused.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah. Yeah.
Phil Barentini
I mean, when we got on a zoom for the first time, it was like his passion and energy and just, you know, you know, he's like, he's just the coolest guy. He's so down to earth as well, and so humble, you know, for someone of his stature. And it was like, that was what basically made me, you know, want to do it.
Jimmy Fallon
And where are you when he's doing his stuff? Like, I mean, when he's running around, are you in the cab? Where are you?
Phil Barentini
No, I'm in a van with Ben Winston, and there's multiple vans, and we've got monitors and we're hearing everything that's going on. And we've got, like, you know, comms to people that. I was in the van apart from the subway.
Ed Sheeran
He doesn't actually end up in the show by accident.
Phil Barentini
I ended up in the show by accident. You know, I used to be an actor, so I was like, I gotta be in this. Yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, I think we have you in the subway. This is the shot where you actually.
Phil Barentini
Oh, there's me, there's me, there's me. This me.
Jimmy Fallon
You had to do that in the subway because. Why?
Phil Barentini
Well, because we lost signal. So I then had a handheld monitor and I'm running around and, like, following it. So I'm so in it, watching it, and then suddenly I'm like, oh, that's me.
Jimmy Fallon
I got him. I'm in it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. How else do we set up this thing? I mean, basically, we set it up. It's Ed. It's you running around this busy city of New York City.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah, I mean, well, it's. I mean, it's basically the show is. It's not. It's not just like a camera that follows me down the street. We go from a venue into a taxi. The taxi then drives to the high line. I walk up the high line. I walk up. There's a real couple that proposes, and they get engaged. And then I walk with them to their family, and there's this big party and they'll play a gig. And then I walk down and we get on a bus. And then we travel in rush hour traffic, which was a nightmare. And then I get off the bus, walk down the street, go to the top of a hotel, play a party at the hotel. They then put a camera on a drone, fly that down as I go down the hotel. Then I go to an Irish bar, and then I walk out an Irish bar, get in a car, drive to the subway, get off, get on the subway, and then get out the subway, walk to the venue, and then play a gig. And it is mental.
Jimmy Fallon
Ed Sheeran, Phil Barentini, everybody. One Shot with Ed Sheeran is on Netflix now. More Tonight show after the break. Stick around. Just think. What if you could just. Just. Just blink yourself away? Just think, huh? What if you could just. Yeah, blink yourself away too. Our next guest Is a very talented.
Actor who spent the last 10 years playing Steve Harrington on Stranger Things. Volume one of the fifth and final season is streaming right now on Netflix. Please welcome Joe Keery.
That's right. Come on, bud. Welcome back to the show.
Look at that. They love you.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy, happy, happy Thanksgiving to you.
Joe Keery
Happy Thanksgiving to you.
Jimmy Fallon
What does Thanksgiving usually look like for you and your family?
Joe Keery
That's a great question. It's. I got a big family, got four sisters, so I grew up outside of Boston, like, north of Boston. So I'll go back up there and unless there's, like, last year, Finn actually from the show came. He had nowhere to go. He's Canadian, so it was not.
Jimmy Fallon
They do it differently.
Joe Keery
They do it differently.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Okay. Yeah.
Joe Keery
It's not Thanksgiving for him.
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Joe Keery
And so he came up and, you know, was my friend for the weekend. Yeah. Enjoyed. So if anybody needs a place to go, come on, you can come.
Jimmy Fallon
That's so fun.
You got to see your childhood home and stuff.
Joe Keery
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you guys.
Joe Keery
Tiny beds, like, you know, next to each other.
Jimmy Fallon
That's getting to know you. That's best friend ever stuff. Come on.
Joe Keery
Oh, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm a big fan of yours, Joe. And I just saw you did something. You officiated your friend's wedding.
Joe Keery
Oh, yes.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a big deal.
Yeah.
Now, I would say I would be nervous when someone asked me to do that, but you did it in your Steve Harrington scoops ahoy in the scoops ahoy uniform from stranger things.
Joe Keery
I did.
Jimmy Fallon
Can you walk us through this?
Joe Keery
Yeah, I did my hair, actually. I did a pretty good job, actually.
Jimmy Fallon
You did a fantastic job.
Joe Keery
Sarah would be happy with Chris.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Just like Steve.
Joe Keery
Amy. I do get that. I get that all the time. Amy Paris, who does costumes for the show, lent me the costume, or, you know, there's a dozen costumes and. Yeah, I heard. You know, I was on tour earlier this year, and Matt and Veronica, who are in this picture, they're getting married. Veronica was like, I think it'd be great. It's a costume wedding. You know, it's Halloween. You should go.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, it was on Halloween.
Joe Keery
It was on Halloween. Yeah. So not shown in this picture is the fact that everyone else is in costume. I mean, it looks like I just did this for, like, two random people. These are my friends. There's a bunch of people in costumes.
Jimmy Fallon
You actually brought us a picture of everyone.
Joe Keery
I'm glad that you have this here.
Jimmy Fallon
People actually are in costumes. That is true. Very good.
Joe Keery
We've got Wes Is the Riddler.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Fantastic.
Ed Sheeran
That's good.
Joe Keery
Shrek over there.
Jimmy Fallon
When you first put on this costume and first saw it, did you have any idea it ended up being such an iconic thing? I mean, there were kids dressed like you this Halloween. There were so many. I mean. But also, you're in it for a lot of the show.
Joe Keery
Oh, yeah. For a good year of my life, I was in that.
Jimmy Fallon
In that. Scoops ahoy. Scoops Ahoy. Did you say, like, hey, guys, is my character. Should he come out of this costume at one point or.
Joe Keery
Yeah, I kind of had thought, like, you know, we're in this. We're in the action. You know, there's Russians. We're, like, fighting. We're in an underground, you know, layer and stuff.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Joe Keery
Like, shouldn't I take off the blouse part? Maybe that handkerchief. I could lose the handkerchief. And the Duffer Brothers were. Oh, no, no, no. You should keep. I think you should keep the whole thing. It's a look. The whole thing is a look. So I. I think I had one or I had two costumes that year. It was that. And then my last day of shooting, I had like a normal 80s. It was a little tighter this time around. I gotta be honest with you. The shorts didn't fit quite the same.
Jimmy Fallon
I also saw online somewhere that there's a Nike. Steve Harrington. I don't know if you knew this.
Joe Keery
No, no.
Jimmy Fallon
Someone made like, an upside down Nike. Steve Harrington. You have your own Nikes now.
Ed Sheeran
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
Based on your character. Oh, yeah. You're massive, dude. I mean, because I'm probably going with the Members Only blazer.
Ed Sheeran
Steve Harrington.
Joe Keery
Right.
Jimmy Fallon
Which is.
Joe Keery
The Members Only is fantastic.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a great look.
Joe Keery
It's a very, very good look.
Jimmy Fallon
You have such a. Come on, what do we. What do we say to everybody with Stranger Things 5. Okay. This is the fifth final season of the show. Volume one was just released last night. I saw three episodes.
Joe Keery
No spoilers.
Jimmy Fallon
No, but three.
Joe Keery
Three.
Ed Sheeran
It's pretty.
Joe Keery
Yeah. Four is pretty major.
Jimmy Fallon
Really.
Joe Keery
It's very good.
Ed Sheeran
Yeah.
Joe Keery
Really? Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Sorry.
Joe Keery
No.
Jimmy Fallon
For those who haven't seen the whole thing. You've done the whole thing. Volume one, something major happens at the end. You don't want to give any spoilers, but what was your reaction when you. When you saw what happens, how it ends?
Joe Keery
I guess, you know, I've been on the show for 10 years, and you work with all these different actors and you get different time with different people and you see. You know, you read the scripts and you kind of understand the journey that they're going on, gonna go on as they're filming the show. So reading that episode, I was just very excited to see certain actors kind of do their thing, I guess.
Ed Sheeran
So we'll say.
Jimmy Fallon
And did you get to see them.
Joe Keery
Do it when I watched the episode?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Ed Sheeran
Nothing.
Joe Keery
Nothing.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. I don't want to get you in dull.
Joe Keery
Don't listen to me.
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Well, you've been working the show. This is 10 years of your life.
Joe Keery
10 years. October of 2015 is when I first started filming.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, man, you did such a great job, man. You're a legend. I love your character.
Joe Keery
It's a huge. Someone at the wrap, somebody said there were 8,000 people that worked on this show. So, you know, the actors are the thing.
Jimmy Fallon
I know they did a great job.
Joe Keery
You associate the actors with the show and with the characters, obviously, but it truly is just a testament to the massive group of people that put their lives into this thing.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, completely. What do you want Steve Harrington's legacy to be?
Joe Keery
That's a good question. Well, besides my suit, I guess, making it okay to wear something like that.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, of course.
Joe Keery
I think the thing I loved about the character and love that they gave me is that he kind of has a change of heart and realizes the error in his ways. And I think right now there's kind of a lot of opportunity for that, for people to sort of choose to do the right thing. And the show is about a group of outcasts that come together and you can be from all walks of life, but I just love that the character kind of makes that choice. And for that reason, it was just a real pleasure to play for 10 years.
Jimmy Fallon
Good job, buddy. You crushed it.
Thanks.
Just the beginning, just the beginning for you.
Joe Keery
Nice to you.
Jimmy Fallon
Stick around.

Ed Sheeran, on what makes music accessible:
“I can play four or five chords quite well... Most songs have these four or five chords in. And I think that when I was growing up, music just seemed... it was like reading music. And it was complicated. And I think that music... it can just be felt.” (09:52)
Phil Barentini, on one-take filmmaking:
“I just couldn’t take my eyes off the screen… when I make something, I want it to feel immersive and I want it to feel like it’s... happening in real time so that the audience are going on this journey in real time with these people.” (18:25)
Joe Keery, on his character’s legacy:
“I think the thing I loved about the character and love that they gave me is that he kind of has a change of heart and realizes the error in his ways...
