Jimmy Fallon
Studio 6B in Rockefeller center in the heart of New York City. It's the Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon. Tonight join Jimmy and his guest Ray Romano Rose and featuring the legendary Ruth Coon 2067. And now here he is. That's a crowd. That's fantastic. Thank you so much. Thank you. Welcome, Enjoy yourself. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here. The Tonight Show. Come on. Well, guys, today New York City got hit by a huge storm that brought 50 mile an hour winds and 3 inches of rain. But I have some good news for everyone here. NBC says you can keep whatever branches from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree that fall on you so you can take it home with you. Yeah, but I love New York City. During the holidays. There's nothing more festive than hearing Mariah Carey along with a bunch of sirens and jackhammers. Yeah, can you believe it? We're only officially two weeks away from Christmas. Today, every Amazon driver looked at their family and said, well, see you in 2025. Yep, just two weeks to go. We're close to the point where you stop thinking what's the best gift and start thinking what will show up in time. What if they want pizza? The tracker says that pizza will get there by Christmas. Meanwhile, this is fun. Tonight, NBC aired Frosty the Snowman. Yeah, one of my faves. They actually updated it to attract younger viewers. Instead of a top hat and a corncob pipe, Frosty wears a beanie and sucks on his in pouch. Well, it is that time of year when a lot of companies release all of their sappy, sentimental commercials that really tug at the heartstrings. And I saw a few recently that really stuck out. Take a look at this first one right here. The holidays are about quality time with loved ones and the values we share. But for those who don't care about quality or value, there's Tamu. Isn't that nice? It makes me cry. It made me tear up a little bit. Here's another one I saw. Look at this one. This holiday, tell your loved ones you're thoughtful. Tell them you care, tell them you just spent 80 bucks on a lemon Zester Williams Sonoma. Isn't that nice? 80 bucks. Wow, that's a steal. Yeah, the low end one. And finally, take a look at this last one here. This holiday, remember that big gifts sometimes come in small packages, while other gifts are perfect for those with a small package. Cybertruck. Yeah, I just think these are. Wow. They're right there. They're right there with everyone. Yes. Hey, while switching Gears. I read a new poll that found only 22% of Americans support President Biden's decision to pardon his son Hunter. On the bright side, for Biden, that's double his approval rating. Speaking of the postal service, they're now warning Americans not to fall for package delivery text scams this holiday season. Yep. The postal service was like, don't be fooled by text messages because we're not even close to having that technology. And finally, a humpback whale has stunned scientists by migrating a record breaking 8,000 miles between breeding grounds.
Ray Romano
Yep.
Jimmy Fallon
Sadly, by the time he got there, he was too tired and fell asleep. We have a great show. Give it up for the Roots, everybody. Christmas fore. Stay together. What a show we have for you tonight. He's a three time Emmy winner who stars in the new series no good deed which premieres tomorrow on Netflix. Ray Romano is here. So funny. Show is really funny. It's really good. And you know her from the record breaking group blackpink. Her first full length solo album, Rosie is out now. Is here. Ladies and gentlemen, Rose is here. We'll be right back with battle of the instant songwriters, everybody. Oh, how fun. Welcome. Welcome back, everybody. Here at the tonight show, we love songs. We especially love songs written by our audience members. In under an hour, it's time for a battle of the instant songwriters. Here we go. Welcome to battle of the instant songwriters. Before the show, we went through our audience and picked out two people who said they were musicians. We gave them each made up song title and then gave them an hour to write an original song based on that title. Here's a shot of them practicing backstage one minute ago. Yep. Let's see what they came up with and meet them right now. Come on over, guys. Nice to see you.
Rose
Nice to see you.
Jimmy Fallon
Nice to see you. Howdy. Welcome to the show. Let's start with contestant number one. What is your name and where are you from?
Rose
My name is Meredith Lampe and I'm from Seattle.
Jimmy Fallon
Hey, Seattle Meredith. Thank you for being here. What was the title of the song that you were given?
Rose
The title is I think Santa is my uber eats driver.
Jimmy Fallon
We made it easy for you. Yeah, exactly. Oh, wow.
Rose
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
So what instrument will you be playing with us?
Rose
I'll play guitar.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Thank you so much. You want to go get set up and I'll give you an intro? Thank you, Meredith from Seattle. Chance is my uber eats driver. Awesome. Tough one. And now, ladies and gentlemen, here to perform the world premiere of the soon to be classic I think Santa is my Uber Eats driver. It's Meredith.
Rose
Christmas Eve, and I got hungry. I ordered in some food. I know the roads out there are snowy, but why is the driver on the roof? Come to think of it, my gifts are kind of greasy and I like fries, but I don't know why they're under a tree. Cause I think Santa is my Uber Eats driver. My stockings are leaking. Mac and cheese. And high up in the sky saw a sleigh shaped like a Prius and a little voice echo, ho, ho, ho. And five stars, please.
Jimmy Fallon
That is how you do it right there. Give it up for Emeritus, everybody. Well done. Well done. All right, contestant number two, what is your name and where are you from? My name's Leo, Lovechild. I am from the Upper west side. Hey, that's what I'm talking about. Leo, thank you for being here. Tell everyone what song title was given to you. The song title is Babysitting the Rizzler. Oh, yeah, the Rizzler. I mean, absolutely. And the one and only. Yeah. And what instrument will you be playing? Also?
Rose
Guitar.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, go over and get ready. Yeah, you're playing the guitar that's playing Leo. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the world premiere of Babysitting the Rizzler by Leah. Well, it started with a call she said, we need you after all there's a legend in this town and he's known all around he's got charm, he's got style makes the ladies all go wild When I pulled up to his place he popped right out and then I saw him his Rizzler face well, I'm babysitting in the Rizzler tonight. He's making tiktoks again. I ain't surprised. Told him to be in bed by nine. But now, now he's live with the Costco guys shouting boom, boom, boom over and over and over and over again. Costco guys, well done. Now it is time to see who won. We're going to let our great audience decide the winner. Yes. You're welcome. Was it our pal Meredith or was it Leo? Looks like it's Meredith. Congratulations. You're the winner. You are going home with an I Love Music sweatshirt. Congratulations. And also, you're getting a Tonight show notebook for writing more songs and a check for $1,000. That's what I'm talking. Come write more songs. Leo, no one goes home empty handed here at the Tonight Show. You also get an I Love Music sweatshirt and you also get a notebook and 1000 bucks to go write more songs and be creative. We want to see it back here. Please come back. Give it up for our new instant songwriters. Everybody. Stick around. We'll be right back with Ray Romano. Come on back. Ladies and gentlemen, our first guest is a three time Emmy winner starring in the new series no Good Deeds, which premieres tomorrow on Netflix. Please welcome the one and only Ray Romano. Ray. Easy. Ray Romano. Welcome back to the show. I love having you here.
Ray Romano
I love being here. Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
We have a lot to talk about.
Ray Romano
Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
You and your family had a. You've had a giant year, family wise.
Ray Romano
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. This is great. Here you are walking your daughter down the aisle. She got married. That's what I'm talking about. How great is this? You both look great here. Where was the wedding?
Ray Romano
That was at the New York Public Library. Yes. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Ray Romano
You know, I have to give my daughter credit. She found a way to get my family back into a library.
Rose
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
I never thought. It's amazing that it would happen.
Ray Romano
Yeah. Well, you know what I always thought? I always thought sometime in my life, I'll be back in the library, I would assume.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Ray Romano
I just never thought it would cost this much.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my God. Really?
Ray Romano
Yes, really.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow.
Ray Romano
I've got to do Ice Age 6 Now, ladies and gentlemen, you actually.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you actually are doing it, ladies and gentlemen. Oh.
Ray Romano
But it was all worth it. It was beautiful.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. That's great. Congrats, bud. And how are your sons doing?
Ray Romano
And I had another son get married also.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, he got married, too.
Ray Romano
Yeah. My son got married five months ago. My daughter got married last month and.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my God, that's fantastic.
Ray Romano
It's cool. And now it's like a race for a grandchild. I want a grandchild and I'm putting the pressure on them.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, good for you.
Ray Romano
Yes. No, I don't want. How old? You want to play? You want to? Yeah, I can't bend down now. I want to.
Jimmy Fallon
Someone have a grand.
Ray Romano
Yeah, I'm actually putting like a bounty out. I'm telling them I am. I'm putting a prize. 100 grand.
Jimmy Fallon
That's fantastic.
Ray Romano
No, I told him 100. 100 for a boy, 50 for a girl.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, come on. Unbelievable.
Ray Romano
How I love. My daughter's my firstborn. She's my.
Jimmy Fallon
How old is your youngest son now?
Ray Romano
Youngest is 24.
Jimmy Fallon
24.
Ray Romano
24. Yeah. He's a. He's funny. I think I talked to you about him last time. He says things. He has, like, I can't tell if he's flaky or brilliant. He. I'm not sure if I told you this last Time. He came home at like 6am and I hear him come in. He was at a party. And I get up, I go in the hallway, I'm like, joe, you coming home at 6am and he just kept walking and went, for now. I'm like, what? And then I started thinking, he's right. Time has no meaning. I had an existential crisis. Wow. He's maybe a genius, but he's screwing me up. I went back in the bedroom and my wife's like, did you find out where he was? And I'm like, where are any of us? I don't even know.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, he just really but boggled your mind.
Ray Romano
How old is your.
Jimmy Fallon
11 and 10.
Ray Romano
Yeah. Well, this. I mean, yeah, they're cute then still. Yes. I mean, he's a good kid. He's just like a. But he does that. He's a two word ninja.
Jimmy Fallon
A two word ninja?
Ray Romano
Well, he said like for now or. The other night I came home from work and it was after midnight and I saw a bottle of booze on the counter.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, yeah.
Ray Romano
Okay. So I know something's up. So I hear from upstairs and they come downstairs, his brother comes down fully dressed. His friend comes down fully dressed. And Joe comes down in his underwear. Just his underwear. Right. So I have to. I'm not gonna. I gotta say something.
Jimmy Fallon
Of course.
Ray Romano
He walks by, I'm like, joe, Joe. Hold up, hold up. Greg's fully dressed, Andrew's fully dressed, you're in your underwear. And he just looks and goes, I win. What? He did it again. He did it again.
Jimmy Fallon
I kind of like that.
Ray Romano
Yes. Well, that's what it was. It was like. Because it means nothing, but it means everything.
Jimmy Fallon
He froze me. Ray, you've been married for a long time now. How long have you been married here?
Ray Romano
I've been married a long time.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Ray Romano
This was a quote from my wife. The other morning I woke up. This is a true story. I woke up and I said, I had a weird dream that you left me. And she just looks at me and goes, it's about time you had that dream. True story.
Jimmy Fallon
True story.
Ray Romano
And I don't. Yeah, yeah. But you know, last time I was here, I talk about being married a long time, but I talked about sex and I don't want to. I did the apple watch joke last time.
Jimmy Fallon
My favorite joke.
Ray Romano
I love that joke. I got in a little bit of trouble for doing that. Well, listen, I don't want to first of all, give to the young people who are thinking of getting married. Sex doesn't stop. It does not stop. I'm not gonna lie. It slows down. It slows down.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Ray Romano
It slows. I get a lot of next week. I get a lot of postponements.
Jimmy Fallon
Postponements.
Ray Romano
I got. I got. Sex is kind of like jury duty to my wife. She's trying to move it. She's always trying to.
Jimmy Fallon
She's trying to push it off.
Ray Romano
Yes. Push it off.
Jimmy Fallon
It's like jury duty.
Ray Romano
One time. One time, during foreplay, she actually said something racist, thinking I would dismiss her.
Jimmy Fallon
That is ridiculous. Oh, my God. I want to say congratulations on your new series, no Good Deed. It's getting great reviews. Congratulations. Out tomorrow on Netflix. You, Lisa Kudrow, all star cast. But you and Lisa Kudrow are fantastic. Yeah.
Ray Romano
Lindy Cardellini. She was on last night.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, she was on last night.
Ray Romano
Luke Wilson. Yeah, it's great.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, Luke Wilson's great too. Everybody's on there. It's great. But you guys are basically selling your house and you're a couple together. Have you ever worked with Lisa before?
Ray Romano
Never. I not only never worked. I never met her. And the weird thing was Everybody Loves Raymond filmed on Warner Brothers, and she was two stages down from us for that whole time. And so when I saw her, I was like, isn't this great? We worked two stages down. I was so. I knew about friends being right there, of course, and she just said we were. She had no idea that I was there. For seven years, we were on the same. And I tease her about it, but then she. She actually made up for it. She told me. I watched every episode during COVID and I thought she was just, you know, you've been nice. Yeah. But then she started quoting lines from the show, so. And by the way, she is so good in this. You're not even saying both of you are brilliant in this.
Jimmy Fallon
Really, Just crush her. How do we set up what it's about? Basically, you guys are trying to. You're selling your house, we're selling our house.
Ray Romano
And it's everything that goes into that. But there's. There's more to it than meets the eye. And there's three couples who are trying to buy it, and there's more to it than meets the eye with them. There's secrets that we're keeping.
Jimmy Fallon
So all interesting characters. It's almost like glass on your knee. Almost like you're selling your house. You and Lisa are watching through, like, nest cams or whatever.
Ray Romano
Yeah, we're watching the people come in.
Jimmy Fallon
Like, you're like, ooh, that person might buy Our house.
Ray Romano
Right. But there's some. A little bit of a dark secret.
Jimmy Fallon
About the house and you and what's going on. And Dennis Leary's great.
Ray Romano
There's a little bit for everybody in it. There's the comedy, there's the mystery.
Jimmy Fallon
It's well written.
Ray Romano
Yeah. Thank you. Liz Feldman, who did Dead to Me, she created this. And here's the true test that I don't want to toot my own horn, but my wife watched it and she's. She's over me. She's over me. I told you.
Jimmy Fallon
She watched it and said yeah, yeah, she. But after every episode there's like a little kind of twist or cliffhanger that makes you like. Wait, what?
Ray Romano
Yeah, it kind of makes you want to watch the next one.
Jimmy Fallon
Ray Romano, everybody. No Good Deed premieres tomorrow on Netflix. We're talking with Rose when we come back. Stick around, everybody. You know, our next guest as part of the record breaking group Blackpink, her first full length solo album, Rosie, is out now. Please welcome Rose. Thank you so much for coming back. Yeah, yeah, welcome back. Thanks for being a guest on the show and talking to me at this time.
Rose
Oh, my gosh. Thank you for having me. Like, I feel I'm dreaming right now.
Jimmy Fallon
No, my God. What are you talking about? Well, I mean, your album's out. Are you excited about this?
Rose
I'm super excited.
Jimmy Fallon
It's finally out. Yeah. Do I call you Rose or do I call you Rosie?
Rose
Whatever's comfortable. My friends and family call me Rosie. And I've made this rule where if you know, like 80% of my. The lyrics on my album, then you can call me Rosie.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, perfect. Then I'll call you Rosie. Yeah, I'll call you. Yeah.
Ray Romano
What?
Jimmy Fallon
Of course.
Rose
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
When you were, when you were a kid, did you ever dream that you'd be this big of a star? I mean, you're big. You're big. I mean, I'll go into the numbers, but yeah, I mean, you're going out there dreaming. Did you realize it could be you're international?
Rose
Yeah. Well, no. I mean, I don't even know what to say. Yeah, well, I actually, I grew up in Australia and so it always felt like it wasn't really much of a possibility for me to like, be a singer. So I never really dreamed of it, but I do remember, like, singing till like midnight every day. And my dad eventually just kind of like sent me to an audition because he kind of, I think, wanted to kick me out.
Jimmy Fallon
He could hear you in your bedroom.
Rose
Just singing no, just like in the living room with.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, in the living room.
Rose
I just, like, sing till like, midnight and, like, fall asleep, like, on the piano.
Jimmy Fallon
No way. So you had it in you?
Rose
I just like, it was form of entertainment because it's really boring. Just Australia's really quiet.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my God.
Rose
No, it's like, not much to do.
Jimmy Fallon
When did you learn guitar?
Rose
Around the same time you did.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Rose
YouTube was kind of like hitting off back then and like, all these YouTubers, like, online, they look really cool. And so I was like, I want to be like them, and just like, picked it up.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Rose
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you remember your first guitar?
Rose
Yes, I do. It was blue. It was $70. My dad bought it for me.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Rose
And I remember it was like, it was a cheap one. So, like, my fingers hurt so much.
Jimmy Fallon
That's how you learn. That's how you learn.
Rose
Yeah. But I was, like, crying because it was, like, really cheap and, like, my fingers were really hurting. And so, like, I remember I got together all of my pocket money that I had saved up my whole life. It's probably like 14 by then. And I got like, I still have it. It's like still my favorite guitar and a Taylor GS Mini. And so.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, and that's. So you take that guitar and that's how you audition for Blackpink.
Rose
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you remember the song you played?
Rose
Yes, I do. It's. It was around the time Jason Mraz had released a song called I Won't Give up. And I just learned it. So I was like, I did it.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you realize right there after the audition, you go, I got this.
Rose
Not at all. Not at all. I walked in like I thought it was a joke. I was like, this is funny. I'm not gonna get it at all. And so. And like, my dad and I had flown all the way from Melbourne to Sydney for the audition, so I was like, might as well make some good memories. And so I kind of went, hi. I did it. And I was like, bye.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And then cut to.
Rose
They called me and I'm like, what's happening?
Jimmy Fallon
You're gonna be in one of the biggest groups ever. Yeah. And now here you are with your first full length solo album. Congratulations.
Rose
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you always know that you wanted to call her Rosie?
Rose
Uh, no. Actually, there was like a big debate. I have a song called Number One Girl. So that was initially like, the rough idea, like, maybe we'll call it Number One Girl. But then. Yeah. So, like, Bruno actually tried really hard to convince me. He was like. Because Rosie was One of the options. And he's like, it has to be Rosie because your friends and family call you Rosie.
Jimmy Fallon
He's brilliant. Bruno Mars.
Rose
Yeah, he's been a great mentor and friend.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, we love him. You also produced this, but also wrote every song in this. How do you land on a lyric or a song title? Does one lyric come to you first or did the title come first?
Rose
I think, like, stories come first. Just, like, we would just chitchat and.
Jimmy Fallon
Like, do you write them down or record them on your phone or something?
Rose
I will, like, I jot down, like a bunch of ideas and sometimes I like, text my songwriter friends and so, like, it's just like phrases and words that kind of pop up and just anything you want to write about and, like, kind of get off your chest.
Jimmy Fallon
Does it ever get confusing if you're just sending someone just a title? Like, why don't you love me anymore?
Ray Romano
No.
Rose
Yeah, no, I've done that before. No, I've done that before. I texted Michael Pollack. He wrote a few songs on my album. And I'd be like, for example, I'd be like, how dare you? And he'd be like, excuse me, how dare you? Yeah, we have to write this next week.
Jimmy Fallon
We have to. Let's talk about apt. Congratulations on this song. It's giant. The music video has half a billion. Half of a billion views. It's the number one song on the Billboard Global 200 for seven weeks now. It is a massive, massive hit. Can you explain where the idea came from for apt?
Rose
Yeah, APT is a Korean drinking game that I like. I kind of. I remember when I turned 20, my Blackpink, the girls in my group, they got all the alcohol we could get. We're like, we're gonna drink tonight. Because the day I turned 20, legal age in Korea to drink. And yeah, like, that kind of started and we'd like played drinking games and ABT was one of them.
Jimmy Fallon
Rosie. Smooth Rose, everybody. Her new album, Rosie is out now. Rose for bars when we come back. Stick around, everybody. Christian Slater, Dean Edwards and the Roots right there from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Good night, everybody. Thank you. Thanks for listening to the Tonight show starring Jenny Fallon. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – December 12, 2024
Episode: Most Americans Disapprove of Biden's Hunter Pardon | Ray Romano, ROSÉ
Opening Monologue
Timestamp: [00:00 - 04:10]
The episode kicks off with Jimmy Fallon welcoming the audience to Studio 6B at Rockefeller Center amidst the bustling heart of New York City. Reflecting on recent events, Jimmy humorously addresses a severe storm that hit NYC, featuring 50 mph winds and 3 inches of rain. He lightens the mood with NBC's quirky announcement: “you can keep whatever branches from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree that fall on you” (00:30).
Fallon delves into the holiday spirit, playfully contrasting the festive sounds of Mariah Carey with the city's usual sirens and jackhammers. He shares a relatable observation: “We're close to the point where you stop thinking what's the best gift and start thinking what will show up in time” (03:15), highlighting the pressures of holiday shopping.
Transitioning to media, Jimmy mentions the recent airing of "Frosty the Snowman," noting its modern twist to appeal to younger audiences. He also humorously critiques the season's sentimental commercials, showcasing examples that blend heartfelt messages with unexpected punchlines, such as a holiday ad for Tamu and another promoting Cybertruck (04:00).
Amidst the cheerful banter, Jimmy touches on a more serious note, citing a poll revealing that only 22% of Americans support President Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. He balances this by mentioning that Biden's approval rating remains double that percentage (04:10). Additionally, he warns viewers about postal service scams targeting holiday shoppers and shares a surprising tidbit about a humpback whale's record-breaking migration of 8,000 miles (04:30).

I'm babysitting the Rizzler tonight.”
08:07
