You're listening to a special Fallon flashback episode of the Tonight Show. And now, here he is, Jimmy Fallon.
Our first guest is a very funny actor and comedian, you know, from Saturday Night Live. He's voicing a character in the new movie Dogman, which is in theaters tomorrow. Everyone, please welcome Pete Davidson. Thank you so much. Welcome back. That's what I'm talking about, bud. Everything good?
Pete Davidson
Everything's great.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm happy you're here. Thank you for playing Pictionary. I noticed when we were playing Pictionary that some of your tattoos are going away.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, I've been burning them off.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, they're almost gone.
Jimmy Fallon
Is it. Is it painful?
Pete Davidson
It's horrible.
Jimmy Fallon
It is, right?
Pete Davidson
Oh, it's worse.
Jimmy Fallon
Worse than getting them?
Pete Davidson
Well, they got to burn off a layer of your skin, and then it has to heal for, like, six to eight weeks, and you can't get in the sunlight, and then you got to do it, like, 12 more times.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
So really think about that Game of Thrones tattoo you're thinking of getting. All right.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, really think about it. Really consider. This is a picture of you with a lot of tattoos here. Look at this.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, do you remember, like, how many you had at one point?
Pete Davidson
Probably like 200.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, 200 tattoos.
Pete Davidson
Yeah. I was a sad boy.
Sadie Sink
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So and you would just think of something and go get it and.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, it was a weird time.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pete Davidson
I don't know. I just. Everybody was getting tattoos, like, five years ago. Do you remember that?
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Pete Davidson
Remember? Of course, Post Malone was, like, always tired. I was like, yeah, me too. Dude, I'm exhausted.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I want to get it too.
Pete Davidson
I'm exhausted.
Jimmy Fallon
Are you going to keep any?
Pete Davidson
Maybe like two or three, But I'm trying to clean slate it.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow. Yeah, that's. That's fantastic.
Pete Davidson
Trying to be an adult.
Jimmy Fallon
Good for you.
Pete Davidson
Thanks. Oh, thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Crowd.
Pete Davidson
Dude.
Jimmy Fallon
The Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary. This is the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live. You were on when. Gosh, you were 20 years old.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
For eight seasons. You were fantastic. I loved you on that. Oh, thank you. That's great.
Pete Davidson
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
How did you audition? Did Lauren see your stand up? How did they.
Pete Davidson
I was doing. Remember Trainwreck?
Jimmy Fallon
Of course.
Pete Davidson
So I had a cameo in a scene with Bill Hader, and we just hung out for the day.
Jimmy Fallon
Hader. Yeah.
Pete Davidson
And then the next day he called me and he was like, hey, buddy. He's like, I recommended you to Lauren for Saturday Night Live.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't think I've ever heard anyone do.
Pete Davidson
Hater. He has such a sweet.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, he's really nice, man.
Pete Davidson
I'm just happy to be here.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, he's just a nice dude. He's just the best guy. So he got you in?
Pete Davidson
He got me in. And then I auditioned, did stand up, and somehow got it. And now, you know, now you're here. 10 years ago. Yeah. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Well done, bud.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you remember the 40th anniversary? Because we.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, that was my first year and it. It was fun for me cuz I. No one knew I was a new guy, so no one knew who I was. They thought, you know what, I was just backstage.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
So I was able to enjoy it because it's the most anxiety provoking. Like you. What you guys don't know is the audience is like Jack Nicholson, Taylor sw. It's not a normal audience. So you're like, you know, dressed like a potato in front of like, you're like. And then Jack Nicholson's just sitting there, so. Yeah. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
It's bizarre.
Pete Davidson
It's bizarre.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Who. Who freaked you out? Did Jack freak you out?
Pete Davidson
No. So I. I had only had one job. Me and Leslie Jones, the great Leslie Jones, we were gonna introduce a category or whatever. And you know how Jenna's right there and she's like 10 seconds.
Jimmy Fallon
Yep.
Pete Davidson
You know, five seconds. And when she said five seconds, Leonardo DiCaprio tugged my shirt and he went. And he had his big revenant beard and he just went, I like what you're doing.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And then.
Pete Davidson
And then she was like, live. And I was like, oh, everybody.
Jimmy Fallon
He did the testing me.
Pete Davidson
Dude, how'd you pass the bar exam?
Jimmy Fallon
And I also, a few years ago, I had to bring this up because people were talking about you and Colin. Jost bought this boat.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, we bought a ferry.
Jimmy Fallon
You bought a ferry? Yes. It's not even. Sorry, I shouldn't even say. You bought a boat. Yeah. You bought the Staten Island Ferry.
Pete Davidson
The John F. Kennedy sanctioned ferry. So it's the biggest one. It's like a 5,000 seater. And yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Everybody asks about, is it like, bigger than this studio? What is it?
Pete Davidson
Oh, it's.
Jimmy Fallon
How do we compare it?
Pete Davidson
13,000 times the size of the studio.
Jimmy Fallon
So when you buy this thing, do you go, I got a vision.
Pete Davidson
Well, initially, they were gonna turn it into scrap. And me and Colin were like, that sucks. We, like, rode that ferry. And so we were like, we should bid on it. You know, at least try. And then, believe it or not, not many people bid on it.
Jimmy Fallon
You're taking.
Pete Davidson
You're like, you guys won. So a lot of people joke about it, but we have a really, like, extensive plan, and we're a lot closer than people.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, like. No. You do have plans for this.
Pete Davidson
Yeah. It's like four or five floors, and each floor we're gonna do something, you know, interesting.
Jimmy Fallon
I heard about a hotel, maybe a hotel.
Pete Davidson
Up top, movie theater, an entertainment theater, some, like, little shopping kiosks. And, you know, it's only been two years, and people are like, I guess it's dead. And it's like, we just. We need, like, $100 million. Give us a second.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Give a little bit of a second. But I know you had a big Tommy Hilfiger fashion show, too.
Pete Davidson
Tommy Hilfiger did his fashion show on there.
Jimmy Fallon
That was massive. I saw that.
Pete Davidson
Ye. So I talked to Colin last week, and we have tons of stuff going on with it, so I'm so happy. But in the meantime, if you want to have a party on it, like, seriously, you can. Yeah, it is available.
Jimmy Fallon
Let's talk about your movie coming out tomorrow. This is gonna be big. I'm a fan. Dogman.
Pete Davidson
Oh, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. You voice Petey the cat, which is perfect.
Pete Davidson
Perfect for dog.
Jimmy Fallon
I love. Here you are as Petey the Cat.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Now, this is. That's.
Pete Davidson
I know. Aw.
Jimmy Fallon
But he's. No, he's the bad guy.
Pete Davidson
He's the villain.
Jimmy Fallon
He's the villain in this fun. The whole world. By the way, Dogman is. Is brilliant. This author, Dave Pilkey. Oh, my gosh, Captain Underpants, he's brilliant.
Pete Davidson
Yeah. Well, he does an amazing thing where, you know, it's four kids, but he slips in. Like, all this heart.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Pete Davidson
And darkness and all that stuff, and it's a really tough thing to do for a movie like that. So.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
It's a great original story, and I think whole families will love it. And I heard your voice, and I go, it actually sounds perfect. And I was like, were you for a second, like, well, maybe I might try a little weird.
Pete Davidson
Oh, yeah. I tried, like, a bunch of things, and they were like, no.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
You know when you first get into the booth and you're like, should I. Do you want me to do a little voice? And they're like, of course. And then you do it, and they're like, yeah, just do Jimmy or just do.
Jimmy Fallon
Like, I've been there a thousand times.
Pete Davidson
But I always go for the Grinch. Like the Jim Cat something.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
Like, Merry Christmas, you know.
Jimmy Fallon
You know, Peter the Cat.
Pete Davidson
Peter the cat and Peter the cat.
Jimmy Fallon
And they go, that's cool. Just do one take like you.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And then we'll work on your other fun boys. Yeah. But it turned out great. It's based on the bestselling Dogman books. The book series. And, Pete, I know you have something cool you want to do with the books.
Pete Davidson
Oh, yes. When you guys leave, you're all getting a copy of it. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Come on.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
That's what I'm talking about. Everyone should read this. Everyone get one. You get one. You get one. Steve Davidson, everybody. Dogman is in theaters tomorrow. Sadie Sink joins us after the break. Stick around. We'll be right back.
Unknown Rapper
Yo, I'm happy, mc. It's all of me. That's the way it is. Where you gotta be indeed. As I just thought, I proceed in me getting hotter than saxophone in my room at the Ramada.
Jimmy Fallon
Our next guest is a talented actress who stars in a brand new Broadway play called John Proctor Is the Villain, which begins previews March 20 and opens April 14 at the booth Theater. Everyone, please welcome Sadie Stacey. Hello, Sadie. Welcome back to the show.
Sadie Sink
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
I love it when you're here. I want to talk about this. Congratulations. You're coming back to Broadway in the brand new play, John Proctor is the Villain, one of the most anticipated new plays of the spring. You got your start in Broadway.
Sadie Sink
I did, yeah. When I first moved to New York, when I was like, 10, me and my brother Mitchell were doing Broadway shows.
Jimmy Fallon
I love Mitchell.
Sadie Sink
I am. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
He's a good man. You were Annie on Broadway.
Sadie Sink
Was? Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Are you kidding me? I mean, come on. That's fantastic. What is it like? What does it feel making your return to Broadway?
Sadie Sink
I'm so excited. It's kind of been at the forefront of my mind returning to theater, especially anticipating the end of Stranger Things. So, yeah, it just kind of was a question of what project.
Jimmy Fallon
Is it different now as an adult as opposed to when you were a kid?
Sadie Sink
Oh, totally. I mean, I guess we'll find out. But when you're a kid, you're kind of fearless, I guess.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Sadie Sink
You know, Feels like normal to you. Totally. But now I think it's gonna be the nerves are gonna settle in a little bit.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you're gonna be. How do we describe the show?
Sadie Sink
The show is about a group of high school students in a very small one stoplight town in Georgia studying the Crucible during the wake of the MeToo movement. So it's sort of a reexamination of Arthur Miller's play But through the lens of my generation, while truths are being revealed not only on a global platform, in the media, but within their own community as well.
Jimmy Fallon
Ooh, I like that. That's a great description.
Sadie Sink
But it's really funny. It's very smart. Kimberly Bellflower is our amazing playwright and Donya Taymor is directing, who just won the Tony for the Outsiders.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, come on, that's.
Sadie Sink
You had a great team.
Jimmy Fallon
That's really fantastic.
Sadie Sink
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you remember the first Broadway show you ever saw?
Sadie Sink
The first Broadway show I saw was Mary Poppins, but I wanted it to be Wicked. We kind of went hoping for Wicked and like put our names in in the lottery. Me, my mom, and my brother. Cause you can win like $20 front row tickets. So we entered every single night. Tears were shed when we didn't win, but ultimately we got in there and I think I've seen it like eight times since. No, that's not even like Mitchell, he's seen it like 24 times. My brother, Wicked. Oh, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Sadie Sink
Yes. Yeah. So the movie was a huge deal.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh my gosh. Did you freak out? The movie was.
Sadie Sink
I cried. I cried.
Jimmy Fallon
You cried? Yeah, of course. Yes. Why not?
Sadie Sink
It was everything like Wicked. Whoever illegally filmed Wicked on Broadway and posted it to YouTube. Like I you to thank for.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, for making you a Broadway fan. Yeah. And also you were saying backstage High School Musical.
Sadie Sink
Well, naturally, yes.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a big influence.
Sadie Sink
A huge influence.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Sadie Sink
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Have you ever met anyone from the cast?
Sadie Sink
Well, actually, the first celebrity that I ever saw when I was younger was Ashley Tisdale. She was like sitting in front of us at some pizza shop when I was 10 and we had just come to New York and I was like, oh my God, she's there. It's our Sharpay. But we didn't say hi. I was too nervous. I couldn't do it.
Jimmy Fallon
Really? Yeah, yeah. Cause it's the one and only.
Sadie Sink
She's the queen. It's so bad.
Jimmy Fallon
Of course, you were saying also some of your co stars of Stranger Things, they've been on Broadway at the same time as you.
Sadie Sink
Yeah, Caleb and Gaten, we all were on Broadway at the same time.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you ever run into each other?
Sadie Sink
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You did?
Sadie Sink
Yeah, I remember both of them. Cause there was like the few spots that the Broadway kids and moms would all hang out at. One of them being like the eighth floor of the Marriott Hotel in Times Square. I don't know if you've ever been there, but they've got like those big elevators and stuff and so it was like our playground, kind of. But I remember Caleb there and Gaten playing Hyatt. Well, no, it was just kind of open to the public. It was called at the Office because that was just where they could go while their kids were, like, performing.
Jimmy Fallon
No way.
Sadie Sink
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And then all these years later, you end up being on one of the biggest shows of all time, Stranger Things Together.
Sadie Sink
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
And they remember it as well.
Sadie Sink
Oh, of course. Yeah. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
But how does it feel now? I know it's probably bittersweet, obviously, because Stranger Things just finished its fifth season.
Sadie Sink
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
The final season.
Sadie Sink
It's. It. It's done.
Jimmy Fallon
Done. Did you just lose it? What happened? Did you go, what? This has been some of the best years of my life.
Sadie Sink
It was really hard. It was really difficult to say goodbye.
Jimmy Fallon
What a cast.
Sadie Sink
I know. It's. Yeah, it's been eight years for me. I think 10 years for the whole show. But I don't know. We grew up on it. Grew up with each other, like our audience grew up watching us. And. I don't know. I mean, did you.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you take anything from the set?
Sadie Sink
I took. I took a lot from the set.
Jimmy Fallon
You did, right?
Sadie Sink
Yeah. Well, just like the essentials, you know, I needed Max's skateboard, which that was actually gifted to me. The skateboard.
Jimmy Fallon
Cool.
Sadie Sink
I've got some Walkmans, some Kate Bush cassettes.
Jimmy Fallon
Kate Bush cassettes.
Sadie Sink
Come on.
Jimmy Fallon
No way. Yeah, you had to do it.
Sadie Sink
Totally. And like some Vans and stuff. Like every shoe that she's worn, I.
Jimmy Fallon
Have kind of like a little museum almost.
Sadie Sink
It is. I need to kind of be careful. Cause the house is like, slowly starting to look like a shoe.
Jimmy Fallon
No, I like that.
Sadie Sink
I'm like, oh, this isn't good.
Jimmy Fallon
Next time you're on, bring something back and we'll talk about that stuff. I can't wait to see you see the final season. Also, congratulations on your return to Broadway. Sadie Sink, everybody. For tickets to go see Sadie on Broadway to John proctoristhevillain.com More with Sadie after the break. Stick around, everybody.
