The Weeknd
And the Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon. And I joined Jimmy and his guest the weekend, John Pasino, Adam Gold. And featuring the legendary Ruth Groot. 2136. And now, here he is, Jimmy. Jesus.
Max Young Mazino
Hey.
The Weeknd
Thank you very much. Enjoy yourself. Hot crowd tonight. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. Yes. You guys, I'm excited about this. He's one of the biggest artists in the world and he's here to talk and perform. The Weeknd is my guest tonight. That's right. It's everyone's dream. The Weeknd on a Thursday. Yes to some news here. Well, guys, RFK Jr. Just testified before Congress and he said, quote, I don't think people should be taking medical advice from me. It's ironic because that's actually some great medical advice. It was crazy. For the first time all year, Democrats and Republicans both nodded in agreement. We're like, yeah, we agree. We love that. Did you guys see this? On Sunday, Vice President J.D. vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will attend Pope Leo's inauguration in Vatican City. And this is cute. J.D. vance said he's gonna let Marco Rubio sit on his shoulders so he can see everything. You all right, buddy? You gotta go to the bathroom? Okay. Speaking of the Pope, the trading card company Topps said that Pope Leo's new card just became their best selling non sports card trading card of all time. Let's take a look at it. Here it is. Yeah. My guess is if you collect Pope trading cards, you're probably more celibate than the Pope. I'm just saying. Hey, get this. President Trump just welcomed his 11th grandchild after his daughter Tiffany gave birth to a baby boy. It's exciting. A new baby that's not Elon's. Isn't that great? Especially. Well, guys, over in France, the Cannes Film Festival just kicked off and I saw that. Oh, oh, it's actually pronounced can. What was that? Tree? It's just you said kahn, but it's Cannes. Oh, cool. Thanks, Tree. I am such a fool. I got the word all wrong. I am so ashamed so I shall sing my song O the disgrace and humiliation. Jimmy. Jimmy, you good? You good, man? Oh, yeah. I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. People get it wrong all the time. No, no, it's fine. I can deal with it. Wow. Anyway, I saw Tom Cruise received a five minute standing ovation at the fest. Man, that guy, he acts so good. Oh, I think you mean well. He acts so well. Right, right. My Bad. I am such a fool. I've messed it up once more. I am so embarrassed. I'm shaken to the core. Oh, the blinding shame and indignity. Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, it's okay. Everyone makes mistakes. But I still respect you, and I don't take our friendship for granted. It's actually granted. Not granite. Granite. Granite. Granite. Granite is a rock. A rock. Of course I knew that. Oh, God, I didn't know that. I've said granite my whole life. Oh, Jimmy. He has bested me, and now I'm filled with strife. Oh, the agony. This scramy tit for tat. I cannot shake this feeling, no matter where I'm at. Guys, guys, hold on.
Jimmy Fallon
You're not supposed to end the sentence with a preposition.
The Weeknd
Oh, come on. You stop making us Mr. Perfect. Switching gears to some business news. This week, over 1,200 Starbucks employees have gone on strike to protest the company's new dress code. It was strange. All the employees walked out, and the line moved just as fast. Yes, Starbucks workers are upset about the dress code. Meanwhile, over at Dunkin, you're allowed to wear an apron with nothing underneath it. Sure. Your munchkins are showing, uh, the donut. What? Listen to this, guys. I read that the Denver airport was recently hit with an outage, and some pilots couldn't contact air traffic control for six minutes. Meanwhile, Newark Airport was like, six minutes. Please call us when you hit six dates that wait six minutes. We have a great show. Give it up for the Roots, everybody. Yeah, we'll be going all the way up in this one. Y' all get it. Super team. Thank you very much, everybody. Hey, guys, be sure to tune in all next week. We've got big shows coming up. Tom Cruise will be here next week. Ana de Armas will be on the show. Plus, my pal Jessica Biel and Jin from BTS will be here. It is a great week. But first, what a show we have for you tonight. He's a global pop superstar whose songs have been streamed over 150 billion times. 150 billion. His new movie, Hurry Up Tomorrow, is out Friday. The Weeknd is here to talk. Talented, talented dude. Speaking of talented dudes, he stars in the hit series the Last of Us, which airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO. And Max Young Mazino is joining us. Love him. Oh, this is exciting. He is the founder and CEO of Archer Aviation. Okay. A company that is working to develop flying cars. Ooh. Adam Goldstein is here tonight to talk about Real Deal flying cars. It's cool. Guys, it is time to play who said it? Who said it? Now, here's how it works. I'm going to show you a real quote, and it's up to you to decide who said it. Tonight, we're looking at quotes that could have been said by either President Trump or a cartoon character. Everyone has a clicker. Okay. You can use those to vote Higgins roots. You all have clickers as well. Ready to go. Alright, here we go, everyone. The first quote is, daddy, can I go ice skating? Who said it? Was it President Trump or a cartoon character? Yeah, I got my guess. What is it? Daddy, can I go ice skating? Daddy, can I go? It could be him, the mocking voice. Oh, he's mocking. Yeah, he's mocking someone. Daddy, can I go ice skating? Sir, no, you can't. Sir, you can't go crying. Or is it like Bart Simpson? No, he doesn't cry. No. Lisa maybe goes. Yeah, I'm gonna say. What are you gonna say? I'm gonna say Trump.
Max Young Mazino
Okay.
The Weeknd
All right, the votes are in. Let's see the results. All right, cartoon character. All right, let's see who said, daddy, can I go ice skating? Let's see. Daddy, can I go ice skating? What? This is a great game. Yeah, this is a great game. Daddy, Daddy, can I. What is he talking. What is he talking about? What is he talking about? He's talking about the tariffs. Nobody knows. Gosh, Daddy, Daddy. He said, I don't know. The rollerblading Oyster. Take the whiskey. All right, here's our next quote. Here. It says, my ball went in the hole, so I win. That has to be true. Or is it too obvious? Might be too obvious. My ball would have also. I don't think he would say that. No, I think if he just said, I won. I played, so I won. Yeah, Yeah, I played, so I won. So you're gonna say cartoon. I'm say it's a cartoon. What do you think?
Max Young Mazino
He said it.
The Weeknd
I'm gonna say cartoon character. Let's see the results. Oh, everyone said trump. Is it that? All right, let's see. All right, who said it? My ball went in the hole, so I win. Peppa Pig. Peppa. All right, my bad. I'm two for two. They got all of us. All right, here's the next quote. Go ahead. Hello. Look, it's Santa Claus. So I don't think he would say, go ahead. Yeah, no, he wouldn't allow. He would push out of the way and go, get out of here. I'm Santa Claus. I'm Santa. Yeah, yeah, let's Santa Claus Go. Wait. Yeah, I gotta get in here. Yeah. Santa Claus is dead. No, no. Does the terrorist. He wouldn't say that. Does the tariffs. He would not say that. No kid gets 30 pence. All right, here we go. Here we go. I'm gonna say it is cartoon. Cartoon.
Max Young Mazino
Yeah.
The Weeknd
Let's see the results. Yeah. We all agree? Okay. Who said it? Go ahead.
Jimmy Fallon
Hello.
The Weeknd
Look at Santa Claus. How, how, how. Gosh. Wow. That was very orange too. Yeah. That was yours? Yeah. You look good, man. All right, let's do one more. The quote is. Hey, who's that handsome guy? Oh, that's a, that's a' cause he could be talking about himself. It's definitely. You think he's Trump? Yes, that's definitely Trump. Okay, I'm gonna go Trump too. Quest says no.
Adam Goldstein
I'll go with Trump.
The Weeknd
You think cartoon? Yeah. You think cartoon? I could tell Tariq. I think Trump. All right, Definitely Trump. Higgs.
Jimmy Fallon
I got Trump.
The Weeknd
You got Trump. I say Trump. All right, let's see the results from our audience. Yeah, Everyone thinks it's Trump. Let's show it to us. Who said it. Hey, who's that handsome guy? That sounds like something Trump could have said, though. Wait, I'm hearing what you got? A special announcement. We have another clip. Do we see it? Look at that handsome guy. All right, there you are. Everybody wins. That's why there's Tommy Halfer. Who said it. Stick around. We'll be right back with the weekend. I rule the school and Regency the blind and find their way from A to Z. He's the most. Our first guest is one of the most talented performers on the planet. He's a four time Grammy winner. He has the most streamed song in history. His new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow is out now. He also co, wrote, stars in, scored and produced the new film Hurry Up Tomorrow, which is in theaters tomorrow. Please welcome the Weeknd. Welcome back. Thank you so much. Do you feel the love right there? They have for you? Yeah, I have as well. Beautiful.
Jimmy Fallon
Gorgeous. Oh, my gosh.
The Weeknd
Welcome and thank you. Welcome and thank you for doing this. Thank you for being here. Thank you for doing this. But also thank you for doing what we did this afternoon. Yeah. That was amazing for those college students.
Jimmy Fallon
Was that I didn't expect it to be that.
The Weeknd
You were the best. You didn't think it was gonna be that crazy?
Jimmy Fallon
No, I seriously didn't.
The Weeknd
They had no idea.
Jimmy Fallon
What if they hated us?
The Weeknd
That's true. Wait, when did you know for a second that it might work?
Jimmy Fallon
When they started screaming for you. Actually when you went out first, if.
The Weeknd
They like you, then they're gonna like me. That makes sense. That makes sense. I appreciate you. You've been on our show, you've performed music. We've actually. I feel like you've been on our show thousands of times because we're constantly using your music. So thank you for letting us do that. One of the first times we used one of your Songs is from 2015, and your song was featured in a Lip Sync Battle. Did you. Did you end up seeing that? Did you?
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, I saw it. I definitely saw that. It helped actually help the song.
The Weeknd
It did, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
It, like helped to peak to like the record breaking top. I mean, thanks to him, obviously, but.
The Weeknd
Thanks to Tom Cruise.
Jimmy Fallon
To the biggest movie star in the world.
The Weeknd
Have you ever met Tom Cruise?
Jimmy Fallon
Never met him, no. I'm a huge Tom Cruise guy, though.
The Weeknd
Yeah, me too.
Jimmy Fallon
Love color and money. Yes. Love Vanilla Sky.
The Weeknd
Ugh. Rain Man.
Jimmy Fallon
Love Rain Man. Eyes Wide Shut. Magnolia.
The Weeknd
Stop it. And Risky Business. Top Gun.
Jimmy Fallon
Mission Impossible.
The Weeknd
Mission Impossible, absolutely.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
The Weeknd
Does Tom know that you're a fan?
Jimmy Fallon
I don't think he does, but he did that for me. That was like a. Wasn't a favor.
The Weeknd
I didn't know. No, you don't know him.
Jimmy Fallon
So I thought that maybe to return the favor, I'd promote a little bit of Mission Impossible. I think that could be.
The Weeknd
Just to be. Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
I wrote a little something for.
The Weeknd
Just to be clear, you have nothing to do with this movie at all, do you?
Jimmy Fallon
No, I have nothing to do with this movie, but I'd love to just, you know, put a little bit of.
The Weeknd
Okay, so.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, get ready for the ultimate showdown in Mission Impossible. The Final Reckoning, where super spy Ethan Hunt faces his most dangerous mission yet. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Tom Cruise's legendary super spy Ethan Hunt has now by now made both their names synonymous with achieving the unimaginable. That's a long intro, but in the Final Reckoning, an eighth entry to the franchise that is a jaw dropping, satisfying arc to a now 30 year story.
The Weeknd
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
The pair of them are facing their most dangerous and narratively complex challenge. Check this movie out. Only in theaters. Dolby Cinema 4 DX Screen X Premium large formats and IMAX on May 23rd. Rock.
The Weeknd
Respect.
Jimmy Fallon
I got you.
The Weeknd
Respect.
Jimmy Fallon
I got you for time, man.
The Weeknd
Respect for Tom. You gotta give it up. Come on, let's get back to talking a little bit about you. Please.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you. I got a movie too coming up.
The Weeknd
Yes, you do. It's out tomorrow. Hurry up. Tomorrow but let me just run through some accomplishments. Thank you, man. Just so I can say how much we love you here. You have 27 songs with over 1 billion streams on Spotify. That's more songs. That's more songs than any artist in history. In the history of music. You have four grammy wins and an academy award nomination. Yeah, that's you. Blinding lights is the single most streamed song of all time on Spotify. Almost 5 billion streams. Talk to me. Cause I've known you for a while. What does it feel like, bud?
Jimmy Fallon
You met me at a house.
The Weeknd
This is why you don't do tantra.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, exactly. That's exactly how to do tantra. Oh yeah, I did. Yeah, I did. I did one of my first appearances ever actually. Quest og he's one of the first people to co sign house of balloons. I gotta shout out questlow.
The Weeknd
Really?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So.
The Weeknd
Does it feel odd if I. If I'm rattling off those numbers and I'm talking about you? It's a little odd. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
It's bit a little odd.
The Weeknd
I, I will say you haven't changed. You're actually the nicest guy and the coolest guy and I appreciate that. You staying humble and dealing with all this fame. You're awesome, buddy. But when, when were you first starting out? What were your goals? You're like, I'm going to be the biggest star and I'm going to have more streams and no, I think I.
Jimmy Fallon
Just wanted to quit my job.
The Weeknd
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Get off the street and quit my job.
The Weeknd
Where were you working?
Jimmy Fallon
I was working at American Apparel.
The Weeknd
Okay. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
What were you doing, like 19? I was trying to full clothes. It's interesting because the guy who my boss is actually one of my creative directors. He does all my typography for my albums now. But at the time nobody knew what I looked like. Cause I was, you know, I didn't show my face.
The Weeknd
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Just my music was out and I had like local. A little bit of local clout. The song, the songs, people started playing it. People working at American apparel started playing.
The Weeknd
The music and it was your music.
Jimmy Fallon
And that was like the validation I needed. I'm like, I'm quitting this job and this is my, it's my full time job.
The Weeknd
So you were like, yo, Abel, you ever heard this dude? Check this out. Yeah, it sounds familiar. Yeah. Yeah. The guy's got a great voice. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, he's folding shirts in American apparel. That's fantastic.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
The Weeknd
When did you realize that you had a great voice?
Jimmy Fallon
Well, I used to get penalized as a kid for singing in class too much.
The Weeknd
Oh, really? Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. So I. I didn't think I had a good voice for a while until a close friend of mine told me that, you know, I had an okay voice just out singing in the hallway, and he's like, you should try out Canadian Idol. And I was like, oh, okay. Well, that's. That's the validation I need for that. So I dropped out of high school and. And went for it, and then I wouldn't shut the up. I mean, no, you can't.
The Weeknd
We'll edit all this out. Once you go back behind the curtain, I'll reintroduce you. Sorry again. I promise. Let's talk about your album. Let's talk about your movie. Hurry up. Tomorrow. Thanks, honey. This is so impressive, this track listing. This album is. It's 70 or 84 minutes.
Jimmy Fallon
It's long.
The Weeknd
Yeah, that's. That's for any artist. That'd probably be like, five albums, and they're like, my career's done.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
The Weeknd
You put it in one album.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. No, my albums aren't usually that long. It's just this one felt. It's a part of a trilogy. It's After Hours, dawn fm, and then Hurry Up Tomorrow is like the final chapter to this trilogy. And you know me, I'm a fan of epic songs, so I want to give my fans a full meal. Peter Jackson and George Lucas, and I wanted to give them, like, my own.
The Weeknd
That's your trilogy. You always had an idea for three albums that have stories.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, the first one, House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence was a trilogy. So I thought, if I'm gonna close out this.
The Weeknd
Thank you. They know it, but all of your stuff has been very cinematic, and you have a great eye, and your music videos are kind of like films. And so I think this is brilliant that you actually are putting a film out and excited. You had a big cause.
Jimmy Fallon
Actually, the film. I made the film first. I always had the idea for the album, but the film came first.
The Weeknd
But you sing in the film.
Jimmy Fallon
I do sing in the film. I had to sing in the film, but my album wasn't done yet, so I had to finish songs, like, day before scenes, like the last scene I'm singing, and I had to finish the lyrics and the melody that the day before, I had to shoot it.
The Weeknd
Do you like? All right. And actually, like.
Jimmy Fallon
No.
The Weeknd
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And it's acapella. And it's acapella. And I have to. I'm singing.
The Weeknd
You wrote it that day.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. The day before. Yeah.
The Weeknd
Was that nerve wracking?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
The Weeknd
Thank you for being honest. Yeah. How much is the character based on you?
Jimmy Fallon
So it's, it's loosely based on an incident that happened to me a few years back.
The Weeknd
Talk about this. Cause this is. This is kind of insane.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. So at Sofi in Los Angeles, I had lost my voice. I put a lot of, you know, self imposed pressure on myself and I lost my voice in front of like 80,000 people. And I, you know, slowly figured out that it wasn't a physical injury. It was more of like a psychological thing going on. And I had to like sit back and figure it out. And usually when something traumatizing happens to me, music's always kind of been my therapy. This time I wanted my fans to visualize what was happening. And so it's. And so this album and this and this film is like. It's a love letter to them. Yeah.
The Weeknd
Good for you for taking that pain and making it into art.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I tried.
The Weeknd
It's great.
Jimmy Fallon
That's all I got.
The Weeknd
You gotta do show people how to do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But in this movie, I don't think you're like this before the show.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no. Yeah. We amped up everything in the film. Obviously the only real thing that happened in the film is, you know, a vocal injury.
The Weeknd
Can we say what the film's about? We should set it up. Yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
So it's about somebody who goes on a dark path after he injures himself and finds a stranger that helps him face himself. And it's a really psychological, really Jungian, Lynchian. And it gets really. It's an experience. It just grabs you and doesn't let go until the end.
The Weeknd
It's fantastic. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
That's my movie, by the way. Not Tom Cruise's movie. That's my movie.
The Weeknd
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Let me describe Hurry Up Tomorrow. Get ready for the ultimate showdown. Hurry Up Tomorrow. It is phenomenal. And I will say, by the way, you were so cool today. We were doing this thing and honestly.
Jimmy Fallon
We just, it was amazing.
The Weeknd
We came up with this last night.
Jimmy Fallon
Last night.
The Weeknd
And we came in today and we went to this university and we're in this tiny room backstage and I was like, I'm so nervous. I'm like, I'm freaking out. And you go, it'll be fine.
Jimmy Fallon
Like I said, I saw how they reacted to you and then I felt.
The Weeknd
You hit a home run, buddy. You're the best. The Weeknd, his album Hurry Up Tomorrow is out now. And check out Hurry up. Tomorrow the movie in theaters Friday. We'll be right back. Standing o. Pick her up. Our next guest is an Emmy nominated actor who stars in the hit series the Last of Us, which airs Sundays. Yeah. Ow. It airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO. And Max, please welcome young Mazino. Thank you so much for coming back to the show. Welcome back. You look good. Amazing to be back since the last time you were here. We were talking about Beef. Beef had just come out and it became a huge hit. Yeah, Giant hit. You went on to get nominated for an Emmy. Not too shabby, bud. I was proud of you. I was happy. What was Emmy night like for you? What did it feel like?
Adam Goldstein
A bit surreal. Yeah. I just remember after the Emmys, I was leaving and I happened to be by myself and I was going down the stairs and I saw Paul Walterhauser who won the Emmy for my category. And he was standing there by himself as well, barefoot, eating something. And I went down to congratulate him and he was like, yo, man, do whatever you want. Don't listen to anybody. And he just walked away barefoot onto the road and just kept on going. And. And I see why he won, you know, wow, what a cool guy.
The Weeknd
That is truly a great story. That's amazing. And now here you are and you go, life couldn't be bigger. I mean, people recognize you all over the place now for Beef. And you go, that's it. Now that's so fun. Then you get the last of us. And that's crazier. I mean, it's a whole new fans around the world. It's one of the biggest shows on TV right now. Only two episodes are left this season. How do we set up what's happening this season?
Adam Goldstein
Well, the two main characters, Ellie and Dina, are in a war zone trying to enact their revenge because Pedro Pascal's character Joel got viciously murdered by somebody from the wlf. It's a military faction.
The Weeknd
Spoiler alert. Spoiler alerts. Spoiler alert. Spoiler alert. Gas. Guess I don't have to watch last week's episode. Aye. Nice to see you, Bud.
Adam Goldstein
So I'm new to this whole thing. I assumed everybody here has watched the show. Let me take that back. I'm just kidding. None of that happened.
The Weeknd
Yeah, of course you're just kidding. None of that happened.
Adam Goldstein
We're actively just all simply trying to survive this, this post apocalyptic.
The Weeknd
There you go.
Adam Goldstein
Harrowing world.
The Weeknd
There you go. That's much better. Thank you. Thank you for saying that. Thank you. No one gets murdered. I. I Gotta ask. Because I see these things, these clickers, and it scares me. I can't even look at it right now. It gives me nightmares.
Adam Goldstein
Oh, my God.
The Weeknd
And when. When you're. When you're on set with these freaky things. This is a bloater.
Adam Goldstein
Yeah.
The Weeknd
Look at this. Are. Are they actors to you? Or are they zombies? Or do they frighten you? Are they monsters? I mean, what are they?
Adam Goldstein
Well, they are in full prosthetics on set. And I realized. Well, I walked past the table where they were. There were a bunch of clickers sitting together, and they all looked quite. They were all chilling, like, just kind of kicking back.
The Weeknd
Yeah, it kind of takes the scare out of it. Yeah.
Adam Goldstein
And I walked up. Well, they were all just motionless. And I walked up and I was like, hey, guys. And nobody responded. And I figure it's because they're miserable in that gear. But I realized they can't really see or hear well. And apparently they have to get, like, handheld to set to do their work. I mean, it's such a physically taxing, demanding job.
The Weeknd
That's a rough job, but I think it'll probably scare me even more.
Adam Goldstein
Yeah. I mean, if you see some infected lounging around, it's a bit awkward.
The Weeknd
Yeah. Guitars play a pretty big role in this season. And I read that between scenes, you and the fellow actors would all play guitar.
Adam Goldstein
Yeah. We didn't tell anyone this, but we all individually brought our own guitars. And for me, it's personally my escape, my therapy. It's my way to ground myself, especially shooting something like the Last of Us.
The Weeknd
Yeah, exactly.
Adam Goldstein
So we had a lot of nice sessions like that.
The Weeknd
What kind of music are you playing? What's the vibe?
Adam Goldstein
Depends. I mean, everyone brings their own eclectic taste. And I like everything from soul to folk to alternative. Just depends on the mood.
The Weeknd
Yeah, you're good. Come on, young Mazito. The Last of Us air Sundays at 9pm on HBO. And Max. More Tonight show after the break. Our next guest is the founder and CEO of Archer Aviation, a company that is developing electric flying vehicles designed to transform daily travel. Everyone, please welcome Adam Goldstein. I'm so excited to talk to you. Thank you. Thank you so much for being here. For those who might not be familiar, can you explain what Archer Aviation is all about?
Max Young Mazino
Yeah, we're building the future of aviation. These are flying cars. This is going to take you off the ground. Stuck in traffic 60 to 90 minutes into the air, five to seven minute trips.
The Weeknd
Really? And how high off the ground are these?
Max Young Mazino
So similar to helicopters. 1500ft.
The Weeknd
Okay.
Max Young Mazino
Yeah.
The Weeknd
This is. I got a chance to see this in real life. One called Midnight.
Max Young Mazino
That's right.
The Weeknd
And it's like you're stepping into the future. I sat in it. It's roomy. It feels safe. It's amazing. The one I sat in had 12 propellers. No.
Max Young Mazino
Yeah. It's got incredible amount of redundancy. When you go electric, all of a sudden, you can build a totally new type of aircraft. It allows you to build something at a very high level of safety, so you can produce it for the masses. Everybody can take it, but they're also super quiet, so you don't bother anybody.
The Weeknd
How did it take so long for us to develop flying cars? Because we were promised by the Jetsons. Flying cars.
Max Young Mazino
Yeah.
The Weeknd
That is the future. And then no one did it. Why didn't anyone do it? And I'm so happy that you did it.
Max Young Mazino
Yeah. It's really all about the batteries. The batteries had to get good enough, and so they.
The Weeknd
Oh, is that right?
Max Young Mazino
Yeah. The ground vehicles, electric vehicles, really pushed the whole battery technology, and it allowed us to do this. And once you go electric, you can build a totally new type of aircraft. And it's actually fascinating. 1903 is the Wright Flyer.
The Weeknd
Okay.
Max Young Mazino
First airplane.
The Weeknd
Yeah.
Max Young Mazino
1964, 60 years later, is the first Boeing 737. 160 years later. Here we go. Flying cars.
The Weeknd
Yeah. To give people a better idea of what we're talking about, you brought some video. Can you talk us through what we're seeing here? Yeah. Okay, here we go.
Max Young Mazino
So this is Midnight. This is our aircraft. You can see it takes off vertically like a helicopter, flies forward on a wing like an airplane, and of course, over the beautiful California skyline.
The Weeknd
That's wild. Now, what inspired you to get involved with flying car? Was it the Jetsons?
Max Young Mazino
So I've always loved. I've always loved sci fi. Sci fi is just core to my, you know, my being. And so I grew up watching these movies, and I would always want to just figure out how to turn science fiction to science fact. How do you take all these amazing future gadgets and actually spend your whole life building them and bringing them to the world? That's what I did. Flying cars.
The Weeknd
Yeah. And your family thinks you're crazy, or what do they say? They go like, yeah, Adam, yeah, Great. You're gonna make it. Flying. Good luck, buddy. Yeah. What do they say?
Max Young Mazino
My mom plays a cool. She's always like, she loves it. I'm like, mom, building the flying car. And she's like, okay, honey, that sounds great. She Plays it cool.
The Weeknd
Yeah. Moms are always supportive. Thank you. Moms out there. Yeah.
Max Young Mazino
It's my wife, though. My wife is the one.
The Weeknd
Your wife?
Max Young Mazino
My wife is the one that would bust my chops. So I was like, we're building the future, right? You gotta come see this plane that we built. So the first time we have this aircraft put together, I bring her over. I'm like, you gotta check this thing out. And she looks it over, and she's like. Like, it's pretty awesome. But where's all my stuff gonna go? Where's the luggage? I got dresses. What am I gonna do? And I said, we're building flying cars, not flying closets.
The Weeknd
We're figuring this out. Yeah. Baby steps. Yeah.
Max Young Mazino
So we made it. We had extra luggage space.
The Weeknd
Yeah. It's totally roomy. It's everything in there. I actually got to sit. You let me sit in the pilot seat?
Max Young Mazino
Yeah, that's right.
The Weeknd
Just. Which I got to check out. It's honestly amazingly built. It's gorgeous. But you're making. You made a big announcement today. Archer is partnering with the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Tell us about this.
Max Young Mazino
Yeah, L.A. 28. It's the, you know, it's the big show, and it's a great honor to be able to be the, you know, exclusive provider of air taxis. And so we're going to launch them in la. Everybody's going to be able to take them. It's going to be a huge thing. It's really, I think, important for America bringing back the golden age of aviation, really getting a win for aviation, you know, which really needs that. And I think it's this opportunity for Team USA to be able to get a good win here and couldn't be more honored to do it.
The Weeknd
There you go. Exactly. Usa. And who's gonna fly these? Who's going to fly these?
Max Young Mazino
Well, we have been looking for pilots, but we do get constantly asked by pilots, they want to come fly this. But actually, I have something special today for you. I know you came and saw the plane, and we put you up there right up front. But actually, I want to give you something, Jimmy. This is the first Archer LA 2028 Olympics jacket. But actually, we want you to be the first pilot. Come on, put this on.
The Weeknd
There we go. I gotta do.
Adam Goldstein

The Weeknd
