Unplanned. I'm on the beach. And who comes up around the corner? I go, is that. It's Ronnie Wood. And you're like, hi, bud. And I go, wait, am I at, like a fantasy camp or something? I'm like, what's going on, bud? I mean, you're a rock. I love you so much. I'm like, is this like a treat? It was like a dream. We hung out. You were there with your beautiful family and Sally and the twins. And you go, do you want any of the record? I got the new album. I go, are you kidding me? You gonna play me the album?

I said, three o' clock tomorrow afternoon.

I loved it so much. There's so many great jams on this. And I listened to that. That was. That was back in your life, right? Was that song. And your solo is fantastic. You were telling me that you played for like.

[Ronnie Wood]

Did you play for nine minutes? It was. Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

A nine minute guitar solo.

[Ronnie Wood]

Yeah. And then I came in,

we cut it down to 405.

Yeah, you cut it down. You cut it down, but you play for nine minutes. You're just in the zone.

I tell you what. I was so moved that day and disappointed and sad and I had so much feeling because Brian Wilson died that day. Yeah. I never forget. And that week, Sly Stone died, too. And I thought, oh, no, it's so sad. And it come out through my guitar, the feeling, you know? And you did it, just one take. And I just said, it's magic. I didn't do that. The guitar played itself.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. Do you remember? It felt that way. It felt that way. It's just magic. Do you remember getting your first guitar and where were you and where did you first try to play, or.

[Marco Rubio]

No.

[Ronnie Wood]

Well, when I was 5 or 6 I had. My brothers were 8 and 10 years older than me, you see, and they were both musicians and they're both artists. So if they played, I would play. And if they painted, I would paint. And a friend of theirs gave me his acoustic guitar to borrow, and then he got called up to the army and took it back. And I was so disappointed. So my brothers got me one on the plan, and that's where I started.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And then you also played bass For a while.

[Ronnie Wood]

I didn't even know after playing guitar with the Birds. Then I'd met Jeff Beck on tour and he. We said, you know, one of these days we'll get together. So, you know, my group, the Birds, split up. He left the Yardbirds, and I rang him up and I said, what we gonna do? He said, come on, let's get together. I got this vocal. I got this vocalist. I don't know if you know him. His name is Rod Stewart. And I said, oh, Rod. I met him. So he said, would you mind playing bass? Jeff said, would you mind playing? I said, no, I love a challenge.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Let's go.

[Ronnie Wood]

Boom. Started up with it, and then I got a different aspect of playing the guitar when I went back on the guitar with the faces.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And you bought a bass guitar?

[Ronnie Wood]

Yeah. Well, I had no money, so I had to borrow it during rehearsals in Chinatown, in Soho, in London. And I went round to Selma and I said, could I have that jazz bass? Could I borrow it, you know? And they said, yeah, yeah, you have to get your parents to sign the form, you know, if you like it. And I said, well, they said, promise to bring it back this afternoon. So later on, five years later, I went back to the store and said, do you remember that jazz bass that went missing? And they went, yes, we do. And I said, it was me, and I've come to pay you.

[Jimmy Fallon]

He's a lad of steel.

Come on, Ronnie Wood.

But you're actually. For the first time this summer, you're doing your first solo show. First in 16 years. This is amazing. You announced you're doing solo shows and it's sold out. It's beyond belief. A big guy.

That's nice. Hey, guys, you gotta keep your chops together, right?

Yeah.

[Ronnie Wood]

So, you know, in between times, when I'm not painting, I'm playing, so I gotta keep. I've got rustled up some original musicians that I played with. Andy Newmark, my first drummer on my first solo album.

He played with Sly the Family Stone, and he was incredible. We had Willie Weeks from Aretha, you know, and those two together were incredible. Basic dance.

You played with everybody, but, I mean, you play there. You're gonna meet up with Van Morrison. You're meeting up with Eric Klatsen, your buddy.

Yeah, I'm gonna have Rhonda in my band. Yeah.

Come on, man. This is what I was gonna ask you, though, when you. Because we had you on the show before and we were talking about your art. And by the way, you're an amazing artist. And you're having a show in Germany, right? You're having a big. A big show.

I've always, like, Scorsese, wanted to put my. Like, the greatest director of all time. I wanted to put my par. My mom is also in the film.

But my dad took it very seriously. He was in character for about three weeks before he kept asking.

Orthodontist. He kept asking if there was gonna be a technician on set that he could ask. He was going up to random extras, asking if they were orthodontists, if they could help him.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, my Lord.

He had one line he was processing. He wanted many different takes, you know, to figure out exactly what was the beginning and the end of the scene. Oh, my gosh. But he was incredible. He's gonna be amazing in the film.

Oh, my God. Of course. He'll be fantastic in this. I was asking you backstage as acting, did you get the bug that was your first love? And you're like. Yeah. But also a little music.

I do. I love it. We had Audrey Nuna on the show and she was talking about just Korean culture and H Mart, and we just got talking about that. And I was talking to her mom and she's like, do you go to H Mart? I go all the time. I don't cry there. But yeah, I go to H Mart and I went Literary. Very literary. Thank you. Yes, well read audible. So I. No, but she gave me this gift basket of everything, all these Korean snacks and things. And I'm like, I just want to learn. I'm interested in understanding everything. When we had Audrey Nuna on the show sang golden, she was on the show and she was saying, when I was a kid, I used to get made fun of for my food because it smelled different than the other kids lunches. What a nice audience. No, but it's embraced, which makes it the perfect time to do a show like this, to introduce Korea to people who don't know it. And if you do know a little bit about it, then maybe you'll find something new and be able to say, yeah, I knew before everyone else.

Ah, now we're getting serious.

All right, this is a soju bomb.

[Marco Rubio]

Yeah. So, Jimmy, you and I have never gone drinking in K Town, so I thought I would bring K town to you, my man.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Come on. That's what I'm talking about.

All right, so I'm picking on my jacket for this.

[Jimmy Fallon]

All right, perfect.

I love it.

You're getting ready.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yes. All right, so.

[Marco Rubio]

So, you know, when you go out drinking in K town, one of the things that Koreans love to do is mix soju, which is this distilled alcohol right here. And that can be distilled from many different things. Wheat, grapes, rice. But it's lower in alcohol content than vodka, so it mixes really well with stuff like juices and beer. So a really popular drink is soju mixed with beer, or mekju, as they call it. So it's called.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Okay, so mek.

[Marco Rubio]

Okay, yeah. So it's kind of like a boilermaker, you know, when you drop whiskey into a beer? And so this is the Korean version of that. So I thought we would make what's called a soju bomb.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Okay.

[Marco Rubio]

Now, there are. Now, this is a whole elaborate thing that Koreans do when they make their soju. You know what I mean? Like, it's a whole thing.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You have things here. Yeah, yeah.

[Marco Rubio]

And the way you open all this stuff, it's all very.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It's all very. That was already magic. That was already. Wow.

[Marco Rubio]

So what we do is we pour a little shot in.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Okay.

[Marco Rubio]

And, Jimmy, I want you to do this with me, all right? Because it's a very communal thing.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Thank goodness we're almost at the end of the show. Yeah, yeah. Okay, perfect.

[Marco Rubio]

And the start of the night. So what do we got here? Okay, that's just a little foam. I'll pour a little bit. So the other thing is, you know, there's a very. There are strict rules to how people drink in Korea. Like, if we were out drinking, we would know each other's age, and then the younger person would have to pour for the older person, just like I described in the clip.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Tell us what's happening right now.

[Marco Rubio]

Yeah, I'm pouring for you. I'm pouring for you as a sign of respect because I'm a fan.

[Jimmy Fallon]

So come on, bud.

Right back to you.

So what we do is we take

[Marco Rubio]

these, and these are Korean chopsticks. And they're metal. They're good for non single use. They get washed so they're environmentally conscious. We put them just like this on top of the drink of the beer. Okay. All right, hold on. Let's put this a little bit down this way.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Okay.

[Marco Rubio]

All right. So the idea is we're going to rest this shot glass on top of the chopsticks like that. Okay. And you want to rest it in such a way that the chopsticks are kind of on the edge of the shot glass. You got that?

[Jimmy Fallon]

I think so.

[Marco Rubio]

What we're gonna do is we're gonna pound on the desk. All right?

[Jimmy Fallon]

Okay.

[Marco Rubio]

And if we're lucky, that shot glass is gonna drop into the beer. And then we pick up the beer. We say a Korean toast by saying combae.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Combe.

[Marco Rubio]

Yeah, exactly.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Okay.

[Marco Rubio]

And we down it in one go, as Koreans call it. One shot.
