Renee Zellweger
Come on.
Jimmy Fallon
That's how you do it. That's how you do it right there. Hey, come on. Oh, welcome. Thank you. Thank you. Enjoy yourself. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here. Well, tomorrow. Happy Valentine's Day. That is tomorrow. Happy Valentine's Day, everybody. This is very interesting. I saw a Survey that said 56% of Americans are planning to celebrate tomorrow. Yep. And they'll each spend an average of $188. That's a lot of money. Yeah. They release this kind of data every Valentine's Day. And it's pretty interesting here. Let's look at some other stats. First up, when it comes to boxes of assorted chocolates, 10% are caramel, 10% are coconut. The other 80% are tangerine. Mint goo. You know that it's not quite orange, not quite mint. It's like. Next up, when it comes to making a dinner reservation, 40% made it a month before, 35% made it a week before. 25% just wing it and pretend Chili's was all part of the plan. No, no. You love. You love chili. Here's another one. When it comes to single people On Valentine's Day, 30% treat themselves to a nice dinner. 30% meet up with other single friends. 40% suck down a Papa John's heart shaped pizza in their car while blasting all by myself. Oh. Oh, my God. Eric. Oh, Eric. Carme. By myself. When it comes to expensive presents, 70% choose diamond earrings. 25% choose a gold bracelet. 5% choose a half a dozen eggs. Here's another one. When it comes to giving gifts, 62% give flowers, 37% give chocolates. RFK Jr gives raw milk and zebra tails. Zebra tails. Raw milk. And finally, when it comes to spending the night together, 70% Netflix and chill, 28% Hulu and Hangout, 2% Amazon prime and bone. Anyway, that's. That's terrible. Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa. That's terrible. Awful. Very interesting, Dave.
Paul Schaefer
Awful.
Jimmy Fallon
That's right. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. So happy Valentine's Day to everybody. Earlier tonight, Melania was like, did you forget again? Did you? And Trump said, oh, no. I got Elon something. Some big news from Washington today. RFK Jr. Was confirmed as Secretary of Health and human services. Yeah. RFK Jr. Is now in charge of the FDA, NIH, and CDC. To which Americans said, OMG, WTF, and FML. That's right. RFK Jr. Is the new health secretary. A lot of people are concerned that he's not qualified. But when it comes to health, I think we can trust the Senate. Just check out some of these health tips that senators swear by. Oh, well, first up, here's Senator Roger Marshall. Yep. His health tip is brush your teeth with plutonium. Up next, here's Senator Tom Cotton. His health tip is daily throat curls. Next up, here's Senator Chuck Grassley. His health tip is naked hot yoga. Here's another one. It's Senator John Hovind. His health tip is exfoliate by removing your eyebrows and putting them above your lips. Simple, simple health tip. Just. There's some more health tips here. Here's editor Cynthia Lummis. Her health tip is stretch your vocal cords by saying, can I speak to a manager in the mirror. Here's another health tip is Senator James Lankford. Oh. His health tip is get cardio as Draco Malfoy's janky stunt double. Up next, here's Senator Rick Scott. His health tip is feast upon the blood of your college intern. Finally, here's Senator Mitch McConnell. His health tip is maybe skip me for this. There you go. That's a good tip. Just saying. Couple tips, four or five tips is all you need. Some business news. Today, Apple announced that they're about to introduce the newest member of the family. This is what happens when you don't use Apple's protection plan. Apple was like, remember nine months ago when you finally got your MacBook to hook up with your printer? Some TV news. This Sunday, the third season of White Lotus premieres. Ooh, I'm excited. I'm excited about this. In fact, I saw a teaser for it earlier today. Check this out. Beautiful amenities, spacious rooms, mysterious murders. Check in this Sunday to the White Lotus. Yeah, it's actually that commercial. That teaser has become pretty popular because I saw another commercial that was inspired by that teaser.
Paul Schaefer
Really?
Steve Higgins
A commercial inspired by a teaser?
Jimmy Fallon
The commercial that I saw was inspired by that teaser.
Paul Schaefer
Wow. The one we just saw?
Jimmy Fallon
The one that we just saw together for White Lotus. Correct. I saw a commercial that was inspired by that. Watch this. See if you can see this. Beautiful amenities, spacious rooms, mysterious murders. But if you're looking for a place with just the murders, try Motel 6. I just think that's odd.
Paul Schaefer
I don't know.
Jimmy Fallon
And finally, everybody, Disney announced they're adding a new final verse to the It's a Small World song on the Disneyland ride. Yeah. They're doing it for everyone who got on the ride and thought, I just wish this song was longer. We have a great show. Give it up for Paul Shafer and of course, the Most Dangerous Band. Hey, everybody, I have a big night coming ahead of me tomorrow night. Well, Tomorrow night is SNL 50th. Yeah. I'm doing special. But tonight you're hosting. Yes, I'm gonna host.
Steve Higgins
Yeah, that's tomorrow night.
Jimmy Fallon
You know something Tonight. What's tomorrow? But tonight I have a very busy night as well.
Steve Higgins
What are you doing?
Jimmy Fallon
Well, I don't know if you remember this. I did. I did Broadway. Two weeks ago. I made my Broadway debut. Your first Broadway engagement. Yes.
Steve Higgins
First time on Broadway.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Steve Higgins
It's been great. Was it great?
Jimmy Fallon
It was the best experience I had. I mean, what do you do when you do Broadway? What do you think of Paul? What do you think?
Steve Higgins
You go, well, I remember the opening night, you know, I used to do Broadway that opening night feeling how exciting it. And then you go to Sardis, the Broadway restaurant.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Steve Higgins
You stay up all night waiting for the reviews. I actually did that. Did you do the same thing?
Jimmy Fallon
This is exactly what I'm talking about.
Steve Higgins
You went to Sardis.
Jimmy Fallon
Sardis, I went to. But Sardis, they have all the portraits of the actors.
Steve Higgins
Yes. Caricatures.
Jimmy Fallon
Somebody.
Steve Higgins
Hirschfeld makes caricatures of all the Broadway actors.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Steve Higgins
All the biggest stars.
Jimmy Fallon
Legends. So tonight, Sardis is giving me my own portrait. A little. I mean, it's a big. I mean, I was on Broadway. This was huge. I was on Broadway.
Steve Higgins
Do you know how. Well, I wonder, you know, Lionel Barrymore and those for those classic guys, they were on like a whole career and they get. They get their portrait. And Sardis, after, like 75 years on Broadway. 14. How long was you. Was your run?
Jimmy Fallon
Almost a week. Almost a week long. It was almost a full week. Almost a full. Yeah. Monday, Monday, Tuesday. Well, Monday. No.
Paul Schaefer
Yeah. And the Broadway star.
Jimmy Fallon
So Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sardis, whatever. Anyway, I'm so excited. So if you're a tourist, you come into town, you come see the Tonight Show. Please. Or go see a Broadway show. It's the best support Broadway either before the show, after the show, go to Sardi's, and on your way to the men's room, look out for someone. Yeah. Familiar. And then. I'm just so excited about this weekend. It's just unbelievable. Saturday Night Live. 50 years.
Steve Higgins
50 years.
Jimmy Fallon
50 years. That make any sense?
Steve Higgins
The best years of Saturday nights and sketches and musical acts.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. So Friday at Radio City Live, I'm hosting this giant show. It's going to be three hours plus of the craziest acts. Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Arcade Fire, Jack White.
Paul Schaefer
Who?
Jimmy Fallon
Mumford and Sons. Mumford and Sons. Snoop Dogg. It's Ms. Lauryn Hill. It's just, honestly, out of control. So many things and some surprises, too.
Steve Higgins
Is there a house band on that thing? I mean. No. No, I'm not looking.
Jimmy Fallon
That's interesting that you would ask.
Steve Higgins
There was somebody backing up. Absolutely everybody.
Jimmy Fallon
Who is it?
Renee Zellweger
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
The one and only. The Roots are the backing band. And that's where they are. Jeanette. So thank you. But I've been so. I've been so lucky, and I'm honored and thankful that I have the world's most dangerous band of Paul Shaver here. This whole week, you have been a dream. You're a dream Rush.
Steve Higgins
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm just so excited to see everybody at Siren Live. I just. Throughout all those years and all those friends that you meet and you miss, and I just can't wait to see old cast members. And everyone's, like, psyched. They're in the best mood. They're going to do bits. And on Sunday, it's a big show on NBC. I remember my audition and I remember you were there, right?
Paul Schaefer
I was judging you.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. You were judging me. Yeah.
Steve Higgins
Really?
Jimmy Fallon
You get in the room and it's. It's no one in there. Marcy Klein, the great Marcy Klein, ran the talent department. She's the one that hired me for Saturday Night Live. Marcy was there. And Marcy goes, good luck with your audition. She goes, jimmy, just so you know, Lauren might not laugh, so. So don't get nervous if he doesn't laugh, because there's only five people watching. Marcy and you. And you. Yeah. A couple producers and Lorne Michaels. And she goes, just be careful. If he doesn't laugh. Don't let it throw you. Okay, great. So then they go, okay, Jimmy. Who's Jimmy Fallon? I go, that's me. They go, why don't you go get hair and makeup? I've never gotten hair and makeup. Oh, my God. So I go to hair and makeup, and they're doing my hair and my makeup, and they go. Just to let you know, Jimmy, that Lauren doesn't laugh again. They say it again when you do this audition. So don't let it throw you. If Lauren doesn't laugh.
Steve Higgins
That's it. In the makeup room, they're telling.
Jimmy Fallon
Totally. Yeah. Understood. Yeah. And then I go out and they go, we have to get a microphone on you. I go, great. So the audio guy comes up to me, he puts the mic on, he goes, there you go. Jimmy, Jimmy. Just between us, Lorne doesn't really laugh. He's telling him, why is it.
Halsey
What's.
Jimmy Fallon
This guy's in the wrong business. Why is he. He's in the comedy business. He should laugh. You would think, you'd think that he would laugh a little. So I remember, so nervous. I'm doing my audition, I do the whole thing, and in my act, I did an impression of Adam Sandler. This is before anyone really did an impression of Adam. And so I did like, something like that. And I saw Lauren start laughing. Ah, really? You made him laugh. Yeah. So I thank Adam Sandler and I just want to thank Lorne Michaels because, gosh, he just changed my life and he's just become a mentor to me and a friend. I love him so much.
Steve Higgins
You know what I got? What I'm tripping out on is Steve Higgins was judging you.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Steve Higgins
Now he works for you.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah. That's the way it works. Yeah. Yeah. I sold out fast. Wow. And I'm good, man. Now you work for me. Yeah, exactly. But yeah, you, Higgins, you were there. And did you. Did you know that you go, oh, this kid is going to be okay. Or was I too green? Was I nervous?
Paul Schaefer
No, perfect. It was like one of the best. I hate to compliment you, but.
Jimmy Fallon
Why would you hate to compliment. No, no, I'm going to be. I'm going to be up on Sardis tonight. I got my own torches. Sar. Fantastic Friday night, big bash at Radio City. It's going to be on Peacock. So get your subscription to Peacock and while you're there, you can watch Renee Zellberger's new movie. Yeah.
Paul Schaefer
On Peacock.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it's on Peacock. Get a seven day free trial. Get a seven day free trial. You don't have to even.
Paul Schaefer
Who's going to say anything?
Jimmy Fallon
No, I'm not going to say anything.
Paul Schaefer
I'm not going to tell anybody.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you start the trial tonight. Yeah. You watch Bridget Jones Mad about the Boy.
Paul Schaefer
Watch it on the Pee. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You watch it on Peacock. Then you watch the Sirent Live 50 Homecoming Concert that I'm hosting. Watch that and then cancel your subscription.
Paul Schaefer
Yeah. And then take a nap.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Paul Schaefer
Sunday, you watch the big show.
Jimmy Fallon
It is the end of the week and that's usually when I Catch up on some personal stuff. You know, I check my inbox, I return some emails, and of course I send out thank you notes. I was just running a bit behind tonight. If you guys wouldn't mind, could I write out a couple thank you notes right now? My gosh. Paul Schaefer. Can I get some thank you note ready music, please? Oh. Oh, my gosh. Beautiful. Beautiful. Thank you, Super Bowl 59 for being over before the guac even turned brown.
Paul Schaefer
That touched you.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you, Valentine's Day, for teaching us that while you can't put a price on love, you actually can.
Paul Schaefer
$188.
Jimmy Fallon
How many roses? Thank you, Waterfalls, for letting me relax to the soothing sound of something falling off a cliff. Make it sou. Thank you. This year's super bowl commercials for making me want to buy whatever product will stop my nightmares. What was that? What are they selling? What was that selling? Thank you. Sending a gift from a secret admirer for being a nice way to soft launch being a stalker. The final one. Oh, this is it. The last thank you note. Oh, no, it's sad. Oh, sad, sad, sad, sad thing.
Paul Schaefer
Oh, no.
Jimmy Fallon
Here it is. The final thank you note. Thank you, Fubo and Tubi for sounding less like streaming platforms and more like rejected Teletubbies. There you have it, everybody. Those are my thank you notes. Stick around. We'll be right back with Renee Zellweger, everybody. Come on back. Our first guest is a two time Oscar winning actress who returns as Bridget Jones in the new movie Bridget Mad about the Boy, which is streaming now exclusively on Peacock. Everyone please welcome Renee Zellweger. Talking about right there. I'm so happy you're back. Me too. Renee Zellweger. I know Paul is here. Come on.
Renee Zellweger
Hi. I miss you, buddy.
Jimmy Fallon
Hi.
Steve Higgins
Good to see you.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you for coming back to the show.
Renee Zellweger
Oh, man.
Jimmy Fallon
Thanks for having me. You look fantastic. I can't wait to talk about Bridget Jones. No, I'm coming out. We have to talk about everything.
Renee Zellweger
Let's talk about everything. How about, let's talk about. Thank you for inviting me here tonight. And we have Paul.
Jimmy Fallon
Renee. Do you.
Renee Zellweger
Killing it.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you remember the first appearance on the Tonight show with me?
Renee Zellweger
Oh, how could I forget it? How could you forget it?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Really? Well, we wrestle. I don't forget it. Yeah, we wrestled each other.
Renee Zellweger
We wrestled.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And I have a picture of it right here is me versus you.
Renee Zellweger
Yeah, yeah. And y'all. He came to play.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Look at how I came hard. Yeah. I'm ready to go.
Renee Zellweger
No, no, he Came to play. He's competitive. Guys. Y'all seen him, right? He means it.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, I really? Yeah, but then you knocked me out of the ring.
Renee Zellweger
Slaughtered.
Jimmy Fallon
And you won. Yes. You knocked me. You crushed me.
Renee Zellweger
I tell you what. See, he sent the pictures of these outfits. He said, what do you think about that? And I thought we were gonna play, you know?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Renee Zellweger
And then he came at me and I was like, oh, Jim's not messing around.
Paul Schaefer
Yeah, man.
Jimmy Fallon
He's not a joke on this show.
Renee Zellweger
Jimmy Fallon tried to take me down.
Jimmy Fallon
That's right. I don't let anyone win on this show. You gotta really win yourself. You gotta work hard.
Renee Zellweger
I do.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm telling you. Santa Claus. Let's go for it, man.
Renee Zellweger
I'm telling you.
Jimmy Fallon
What? Yeah. You were the best.
Renee Zellweger
It was fun.
Jimmy Fallon
Last night we have your Bridget Jones co star, Leo Woodall.
Renee Zellweger
Oh, is he great?
Jimmy Fallon
He's fantastic.
Renee Zellweger
Leo Woodall, y'all.
Jimmy Fallon
And I gotta talk about. I can't wait to talk about Bridget Jones. But he told this story about lying to get a role in a movie, and I was gonna ask you if you ever lied to get a role in a movie.
Renee Zellweger
Never.
Jimmy Fallon
Never, Right? No.
Renee Zellweger
Well, I did lie. To get my SAG card. I mean, but. Right. Yeah, I did.
Jimmy Fallon
To get your foot in the biz?
Renee Zellweger
Well, yeah. I was auditioning for a beer commercial and they asked me if I could rollerblade. And this was. They were brand new, Right. Nobody had ever seen the wheels in that configuration before. But I thought, Texas roller skating, birthday parties, how hard could it be, right? Y'all. It was different.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rollerblading itself, they're like.
Renee Zellweger
Right, you got that right. Okay, so that's fine. So put on this bikini. Okay, so then it's fine, right? Here we go. And they go right. Now, hold. All, take this 12 pack and put it on your shoulder.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my God.
Renee Zellweger
Yeah. Yeah. It gets better. Now go to the top of that hill.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Forget about it. You go, dude. I'm sorry, everyone. I'm lying. I cannot roll a blade.
Renee Zellweger
No, no, we didn't lie. We went for it.
Jimmy Fallon
You did it. Yeah.
Renee Zellweger
Suck it up, buttercup.
Jimmy Fallon
That's right. That's what I'm talking about. Suck it up, buttercup.
Renee Zellweger
Roll with it and. Yeah. And they basically paid for college, which is. Yeah, well, I mean, it's only fair. I mean, think of how much you invest in the company during those years. You know what I mean?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Beer is a good thing. Yeah. Yeah, it's good. Beer pays for beer. Absolutely. Yeah. Let's get into Bridget Jones. Congratulations on the reviews on this. People are saying it's the best Bridget Jones sequel yet. Thanks. Well deserved.
Renee Zellweger
Thanks. That's really fun. Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
The Bridget Jones movies are all beloved. Could you ever predict how successful this franchise would be? Did you ever?
Renee Zellweger
You mean back on the first one?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Renee Zellweger
Oh, no, no. I was just trying not to get fired off the first one.
Jimmy Fallon
No way.
Renee Zellweger
Oh, my gosh.
Halsey
Yes.
Renee Zellweger
I didn't know if that was gonna work.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my gosh. You're so good in this, you know.
Renee Zellweger
Back to the rollerblades, y'all. Fake it till you make it.
Jimmy Fallon
Fake it until you make it. Well, this. It's not a spoiler. It's in the book. It's in the trailer. But at the beginning of the movie, we learned that Mark D'Arcy, Colin Firth's character, has passed away. Yeah, I know. How did you react when you read that?
Renee Zellweger
You know, I was really surprised at how emotional it was to be on the set that day. I mean, I read the book, I read the script, we did the table reading. I knew what's gonna happen. But when Colin was standing there in all his Mark D'Arcy finery with his Mark Darcy little briefcase, I started welling up and I thought, oh, my God, I'm a crazy person.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Yeah. He's just a character. This is just a character in the movie. Ye. We all loved him, though.
Renee Zellweger
And I love Bridget and Mark, and I love working with Colin and working with somebody for 25 years, you know?
Jimmy Fallon
I know. And Hugh Grant.
Renee Zellweger
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Hugh Grant returns.
Renee Zellweger
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
And what's it like being back together with Hugh?
Renee Zellweger
Oh, he's the best.
Jimmy Fallon
He really is.
Renee Zellweger
He's so much fun. But I have to tell anybody that. You guys know he's our, like, favorite grumbler in chief, isn't he? He's, like, mastered the art of fun grumbling.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, yeah. He comes on the show and he hates coming on the show.
Renee Zellweger
He hates everything.
Jimmy Fallon
He hates. No, he's brilliant.
Renee Zellweger
He's brilliant.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm so into this movie. There's a moment in the trailer, which obviously, it's good. It's super funny, but you're very physical in these movies, and I love that about these movies.
Renee Zellweger
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
There's one where you're stuck in a tree. Okay. And here you are stuck in the tree. And I go, yeah. And you said, yeah. I was gonna ask you, how long are you hanging there for. For this scene?
Renee Zellweger
Right.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And it was a lot of time.
Renee Zellweger
It was two Days.
Jimmy Fallon
Two days. And you go, this is not fun anymore. Let's get this shot done. But were you in a harness and stuff?
Renee Zellweger
Well, we did have a safety harness, so it was there just in case things go wrong and, you know, and you fall off. But it was just there as a precaution. It wasn't doing anything. But the director, Michael, didn't know that.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh. So we just thought, he's like, oh, this should be fine.
Renee Zellweger
I was just hanging around up there.
Jimmy Fallon
You know, we have eight hours to shoot this scene. You're like, did we get at this take? I think we got it. I think we nailed it. This take. Can you get me down from this tree?
Renee Zellweger
Yeah, we're gonna move some light. Let's move those lights over there. And you know what? No, nevermind.
Halsey
We're gonna move these lights.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Over here.
Renee Zellweger
Let's do a reset, everybody. And meanwhile, like, the fingers start to go. And you know those. You know all those movies where somebody's hanging by a ledge and they're starting to slip and they're gonna go any minute, you know. You know that thing? And you're like, aw, man, I would have held on. I would have been fine.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Renee Zellweger
Look. Yeah, look at that guy. Wimp. I've never let go, y'all. We're all gonna die. All of us.
Jimmy Fallon
Really? Yeah.
Renee Zellweger
Cause there comes a point where there's no connection anymore. And the fingers are like, whatever. You're on your own.
Jimmy Fallon
You're just hanging by this harness on this thing. Your arms are back. You're like, help me.
Renee Zellweger
But it's a good workout. I recommend it.
Jimmy Fallon
It's super funny, this movie. I will say this movie is super touching as well. It tugs at the heartstrings. You get a little tear. You get your tissues ready for this?
Renee Zellweger
Yeah, for sure.
Jimmy Fallon
How do we set up what Bridget Jones Mad about the Boy is about?
Renee Zellweger
Well, it's a little different, y'all, stylistically and tonally, because we're looking at some of the heavier things that life throws at you, which makes sense because you don't get to this point in life without having some heavy experience.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Renee Zellweger
Yeah, right? So Bridget, as we've revealed, is a single mom now, y'all. And, yeah, she's just trying to get through it and heal. We all know about that, right?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And while you're healing, you meet this.
Renee Zellweger
Stud, nice young man, which doesn't hurt.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it doesn't hurt at all. It's actually a good thing. Hey, why not? Come on. That's fantastic. Renee Zohweger, everybody. Bridget Jones, Mad about the Boys. Streaming now exclusively on Peacock. We're doing something fun with Renee when we come back. Stick around. I'll take you there. I'll take you there. Welcome back. We're hanging out with Renee Zellweger, everyone. My favorite. She stars in the new Peacock movie, Bridget Jones, Mad about the Boy. It is out now, and I thought it'd be fun if we acted out some scenes from the movie tonight. Yeah.
Renee Zellweger
Oh, yeah. Let's go.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, but here's the catch. The scenes we'll be reading are not from the actual movie. Instead, they were all written by elementary school kids. We gave them no direction, just the title, Mad about the Boy, and let them do the rest. It is time for kid theater. Here we go. Welcome to kid theater. Higgins, would you please tell us who will be playing and set the scene, please?
Paul Schaefer
Absolutely.
Steve Higgins
Thank you.
Paul Schaefer
This first scene is from Wyatt. He's six years old. And, Renee, you'll be playing the role of Fox. And, Jimmy, you'll be playing the role of Jack. And as your narrator, I'll be reading the stage directions. You ready?
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Renee Zellweger
Yippee.
Jimmy Fallon
Here we go.
Paul Schaefer
Jack was walking in the woods, and then he met up with a fox.
Jimmy Fallon
Hi. Are you a snake? I thought you were a fox.
Renee Zellweger
Well, I'm a mad fox.
Paul Schaefer
Jack saw that the fox was trying to get him, so he started running away.
Jimmy Fallon
Hey, what's ha. What's happening?
Renee Zellweger
I don't know. Why are you running?
Jimmy Fallon
I got scared.
Renee Zellweger
Hey, guess what.
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Renee Zellweger
I'm not a snake.
Jimmy Fallon
What are you?
Renee Zellweger
You guessed.
Jimmy Fallon
A fox.
Halsey
No.
Renee Zellweger
I'm your best friend.
Jimmy Fallon
Bff. And scene.
Renee Zellweger
Can we get them on the stack?
Jimmy Fallon
Yes, I would like that. Yes. Oh, so good, we're on to the next scene. Scene number two. Higgins, please set the scene for us, please.
Paul Schaefer
This next one was sent in by Lily. She's nine years old. Renee, you'll be playing the role of Lily.
Jimmy Fallon
Mm.
Paul Schaefer
And Jimmy, you'll be playing the role of Ethan.
Renee Zellweger
Mm.
Paul Schaefer
Lily and Ethan are brother and sister. They are riding in a car. Riding.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Renee Zellweger
Oh, I have one question.
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Renee Zellweger
Why is your name Booker Butt?
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Renee Zellweger
Yeah, your name's Booker Butt.
Jimmy Fallon
No, it's not that.
Renee Zellweger
Is it got changed in your sleep. And when you get to school, everybody's gonna call you Booger Butt. Even this teacher.
Jimmy Fallon
No, they won't.
Renee Zellweger
Stop.
Jimmy Fallon
Stop saying it.
Renee Zellweger
No. Booger Butt.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm sorry.
Paul Schaefer
Ethan and Lily's mom yells at them to stop fighting, but even Ethan's mom calls him Booger Butt.
Renee Zellweger
Told You.
Jimmy Fallon
I can't believe this is my name now. What am I gonna do?
Renee Zellweger
You can change it back. You can if you do one thing.
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Renee Zellweger
Well, flush an ice cube down the toilet and sleep with a spoon under your pillow.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, I'll do it. End scene. Thank you. Thank you very much. All right, time for the third and final scene.
Paul Schaefer
Are you ready?
Jimmy Fallon
Higgins, please set the stage for us, please.
Paul Schaefer
This one was sent in by Arlo when he's nine years old.
Jimmy Fallon
He's also nine years old.
Paul Schaefer
Yeah, he's a lot of nine year olds. Renee, you'll be playing the role of Bridget. Oh, wow. And Jimmy, you'll be playing the role of Jordan. Here we go. Bridget and Jordan are bears. And this is a drama scene.
Renee Zellweger
I can't do this anymore.
Jimmy Fallon
What? Why are all my lines. What? What?
Renee Zellweger
It's your head. It's just. It's too big.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, no. Oh, my. No, I can fix it.
Paul Schaefer
Jordan puts on a hat and tightens it so much, it makes his head look like two light bulbs.
Jimmy Fallon
Like two light bulbs, I guess.
Paul Schaefer
Like an hourglass next to each other. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Is this better?
Renee Zellweger
No, it's even worse now. It's worse. And now I'm mad.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, lordy, lordy. I tried everything.
Renee Zellweger
Well, this is the last straw.
Paul Schaefer
Bridget slams the door, but then she opens the door for a second and puts her head in.
Renee Zellweger
Also. I want soda.
Jimmy Fallon
And scene. That is how you do it. Thank you to our kid playwrights. Thank you to Renee Zellweger, Fridge's Jones, Mad about the Boys. Streaming now only on Peacock. We'll be right back with more times. Everybody. Our next guest is a Grammy nominated musician whose songs have been streamed over 50 billion times. Wow. Welcome, welcome, welcome back to the show.
Halsey
Oh, it feels good.
Jimmy Fallon
I love having you on. We have so much to talk about. You just announced this morning a new tour. I did a big tour. February 21st. Tickets go on sale. Do you like touring? Are you happy on tour?
Halsey
I love touring.
Jimmy Fallon
You do?
Halsey
Yeah, I do. It's hard to get me home, to be honest.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Halsey
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
It's part of. Yeah, it's just part of your brain. You have to be out there performing.
Halsey
Yeah, I toured for, like, eight years straight. And then, you know, there was Covid, and then I got pregnant and then I got sick and I was home for a while and I was just like, can I Go back?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I'm ready to go back.
Renee Zellweger
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
But that's not the only big news. You got engaged.
Halsey
I did.
Jimmy Fallon
Congratulations. Right here. You had a fun way of announcing your engagement. Because there was rumors, like, Halsey says she hopes to marry boyfriend Avan. And then you changed it to a fiance.
Halsey
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. That's how you did it. How did the. I met him backstage. He's a good man. How did he propose?
Halsey
Well, let me ask you. I mean, it was amazing. It was really beautiful. I kind of knew it was gonna happen. I wasn't entirely sure. It's one of those things where you don't want to expect it, but you.
Jimmy Fallon
Kind of feel it.
Halsey
Yeah, but the worst thing in the world would be getting there and being like.
Jimmy Fallon
And. Yeah. And has something to say.
Halsey
So he took me to Barcelona, and he didn't tell me where we were going. Put me on an airplane with a layover.
Jimmy Fallon
What is this?
Halsey
In Canada?
Jimmy Fallon
He's got a lot of nerve, this guy.
Halsey
In Canada?
Jimmy Fallon
Canada. Oh, my goodness.
Halsey
Yeah, it was an anniversary trip. I was like, okay, we're going to Canada. He's from there. So I was like, that's personal.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, there you go. Okay.
Halsey
Yeah, it's good. And then we got on another plane. We went to Barcelona. And we both love boats. Just big fans of boats. So we went out on this boat, and we were out in the water, and I was thinking, like, I think I'm gonna get proposed to this week. But I didn't think it was gonna happen in this moment. Cause we were both, like, sun drunk. And, like, you know, it was that stage where you're, like, in your bathing suit, but your, like, belly is out and you're, like, eating fruits. It's not. It wasn't a sexy thing.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it wasn't.
Halsey
And we were sitting next to each other, and he was like, come down on. And I was like, okay. And so I got down on the floor of this boat, and he pulled out the ring, and he showed it to me. And I was like. Cause I didn't. It shocked me. I didn't think it was gonna happen in that moment. And he went, what's a little bit of marriage between friends?
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, come on. That's a good line. That's pretty good. That's a good line right there.
Halsey
And I was like, yeah, I'll do a little bit of marriage with you. I would prefer to do a lot of it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, let's do a lot of marriage together. A lot of people first saw your fiance on Nickelodeon on Victorious.
Halsey
Yes, I know.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Did you watch Victorious when you were younger?
Halsey
Yeah, I did. You know, I have two little brothers. I was like, maybe like a year or two older than the demographic of the show. But I was, you know, come home every day after school, babysit show was on. Sometimes my brothers would not be in the room and I would be, you know, watching the show. They'd walk in and catch me and they'd be like, you just think Beck is cute. And now I did just think Beck was cute.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. You're like, sorry, now I'm gonna marry Beck.
Renee Zellweger
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Do they look at it now and be like, wait, what? This is the weirdest life?
Halsey
Yeah, a little bit. I mean, I feel like they're kind of numb to it because of me. Cause I'm like their annoying older sister. And also, you've done all these things. Yeah, it's very weird for them. Very weird for them. It was weird for me too, though, because, you know, we were having a conversation early in the relations where I was like, you're, you know, you're a child star. Like, that's so crazy. That's so different than the way that it happened for me. You were like, you know, 17 on Nickelodeon, like a huge star. And he was like, how old were you when you wrote Badlands? And I was like, 18. And I was like, oh, my God, was I a child star?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Halsey
And it freaked me out.
Jimmy Fallon
Is it interesting, right?
Halsey
Oh, it freaked me out. I had to, like. I was like, oh, my gosh. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I think you guys are great for each other.
Halsey
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
It's fantastic. I'm so happy for you and excited. I want to tell you about your new album. By the way, the great impersonator came out, debuted number one. Billboard's top alternative album. Top rockin Alternative album. Billboard number one.
Halsey
Not bad.
Jimmy Fallon
Keep going. But every time you do it, number one. That's fantastic.
Halsey
I try. I don't try. It just happened. I don't know. I have no control over it. I just cross my fingers and hope that someone likes it, I guess.
Jimmy Fallon
You worked on this album during your video. Very difficult time in your life. And I'm so happy you're here, by the way.
Halsey
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Talking to me about this. What all went down.
Halsey
So I actually had just come and done the show with you. I don't know if you remember, I had big blonde hair and, you know, it was like, I look different every time I do the show. Sorry.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, good. You can.
Halsey
Yeah, it's fun for me. And I had just done the show with you. And I was doing this other big tour for my fourth album. And I came home from the tour, I started not feeling well. And it was around that time that I got hit with two pretty big diagnoses. The first was lupus. And then after that, I got diagnosed with a chronic leukemia. Big news. I had a one year old baby at home. And I was like, whoa, this is a lot.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my gosh.
Halsey
But, you know, I think that I took some time to recover because I really needed to. And, you know, I'm. I'm really, really doing so much better. I'm healthy now. Both conditions are, like, under control. And I'm just really excited to get back out and have fun again.
Jimmy Fallon
So happy.
Halsey
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
So happy. And I was thinking about today. Oh, my gosh. I can't imagine what you're going through.
Halsey
It just makes you really grateful, I think. You know, I think that, you know, in our lines of work, it's like you do the show, you do the thing, and it gets tiring. And there does come a point every now and then where you're like, like about it. I'm tired. I don't wanna go in and do this. I'm having an off day, you know, And I think that since coming back from that experience, just every day I wake up being like, you get to do this, not you have to do this.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Halsey
You know, and it just. It makes all of it so much better. And I'm five albums deep and 30 now, so that's good. I feel that way.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, no, it's good.
Renee Zellweger
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
The new tour tickets go on sale February 21st. And you're calling it the For My Last trick tour?
Halsey
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. For my last trick. Now, what can people expect when they come to see for my last trick on this show?
Halsey
Oh, man. Well, I mean, I really like putting on a big show.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I know.
Halsey
I think people are usually pretty surprised when they come see me in concert, especially if they only know me for the songs on the radio. The show can be quite, like, aggressive. Like, I'm like a little demon.
Jimmy Fallon
You are?
Halsey
Yeah, I'm like a little demon up there. I'm not like, cute man.
Renee Zellweger
No.
Jimmy Fallon
You go up there. Yeah.
Halsey
I get out there and add to exercise some stuff.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Halsey
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And as far as magic, you know. Cause it's a lot of magic theme in there. I feel like I'm more of like a magician's assistant. You can cut me in half and I get to wear the cute outfits.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. All right.
Halsey
Someone asked me before I got on the show today, they were like, do you know any sleight of hand? We'd love to see you do a magic trick on the show.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Halsey
And I was like, I'm so sorry to inform you that I am not that impressive.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Yes, you are.
Halsey
No.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes, you are. Next time when you come on, please do a trick for us.
Halsey
I said that. I said, just because you said this to me, now I'm gonna learn a magic trick so I can do it on the show.
Jimmy Fallon
Now that's the Halsey. That's the Halsey I know and love. Congratulations on the tour. February 21st, tickets go on sale. Congrats on the album. Congrats on the engagement. I'm so happy for you. Happy you're feeling better. And thank you so much for coming on the show. Oh, my favorite pausing, everybody. The great impersonator is out now.
