Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rollerblading itself, they're like.

[Renee Zellweger]

Fake it until you make it. Well, this. It's not a spoiler. It's in the book. It's in the trailer. But at the beginning of the movie, we learned that Mark D'Arcy, Colin Firth's character, has passed away. Yeah, I know. How did you react when you read that?

[Renee Zellweger]

You know, I was really surprised at how emotional it was to be on the set that day. I mean, I read the book, I read the script, we did the table reading. I knew what's gonna happen. But when Colin was standing there in all his Mark D'Arcy finery with his Mark Darcy little briefcase, I started welling up and I thought, oh, my God, I'm a crazy person.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. Yeah. He's just a character. This is just a character in the movie. Ye. We all loved him, though.

[Renee Zellweger]

And I love Bridget and Mark, and I love working with Colin and working with somebody for 25 years, you know?

[Jimmy Fallon]

I know. And Hugh Grant.

[Renee Zellweger]

Yes.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Hugh Grant returns.

And what's it like being back together with Hugh?

There's one where you're stuck in a tree. Okay. And here you are stuck in the tree. And I go, yeah. And you said, yeah. I was gonna ask you, how long are you hanging there for. For this scene?

Yeah. And it was a lot of time.

It was two Days.

Two days. And you go, this is not fun anymore. Let's get this shot done. But were you in a harness and stuff?

Well, we did have a safety harness, so it was there just in case things go wrong and, you know, and you fall off. But it was just there as a precaution. It wasn't doing anything. But the director, Michael, didn't know that.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh. So we just thought, he's like, oh, this should be fine.

[Renee Zellweger]

I was just hanging around up there.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You know, we have eight hours to shoot this scene. You're like, did we get at this take? I think we got it. I think we nailed it. This take. Can you get me down from this tree?

[Renee Zellweger]

Yeah, we're gonna move some light. Let's move those lights over there. And you know what? No, nevermind.

[Halsey]

We're gonna move these lights.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. Over here.

Let's do a reset, everybody. And meanwhile, like, the fingers start to go. And you know those. You know all those movies where somebody's hanging by a ledge and they're starting to slip and they're gonna go any minute, you know. You know that thing? And you're like, aw, man, I would have held on. I would have been fine.

But that's not the only big news. You got engaged.

[Halsey]

I did.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Congratulations. Right here. You had a fun way of announcing your engagement. Because there was rumors, like, Halsey says she hopes to marry boyfriend Avan. And then you changed it to a fiance.

[Halsey]

Yes.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. That's how you did it. How did the. I met him backstage. He's a good man. How did he propose?

[Halsey]

Well, let me ask you. I mean, it was amazing. It was really beautiful. I kind of knew it was gonna happen. I wasn't entirely sure. It's one of those things where you don't want to expect it, but you.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Kind of feel it.

[Halsey]

Yeah, but the worst thing in the world would be getting there and being like.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And. Yeah. And has something to say.

[Halsey]

So he took me to Barcelona, and he didn't tell me where we were going. Put me on an airplane with a layover.

[Jimmy Fallon]

What is this?

[Halsey]

In Canada?

[Jimmy Fallon]

He's got a lot of nerve, this guy.

[Halsey]

[Jimmy Fallon]

Canada. Oh, my goodness.

[Halsey]

Yeah, it was an anniversary trip. I was like, okay, we're going to Canada. He's from there. So I was like, that's personal.

Yeah, there you go. Okay.

[Halsey]

Yeah, it's good. And then we got on another plane. We went to Barcelona. And we both love boats. Just big fans of boats. So we went out on this boat, and we were out in the water, and I was thinking, like, I think I'm gonna get proposed to this week. But I didn't think it was gonna happen in this moment. Cause we were both, like, sun drunk. And, like, you know, it was that stage where you're, like, in your bathing suit, but your, like, belly is out and you're, like, eating fruits. It's not. It wasn't a sexy thing.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, it wasn't.

[Halsey]

And we were sitting next to each other, and he was like, come down on. And I was like, okay. And so I got down on the floor of this boat, and he pulled out the ring, and he showed it to me. And I was like. Cause I didn't. It shocked me. I didn't think it was gonna happen in that moment. And he went, what's a little bit of marriage between friends?

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, come on. That's a good line. That's pretty good. That's a good line right there.

[Halsey]

And I was like, yeah, I'll do a little bit of marriage with you. I would prefer to do a lot of it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, let's do a lot of marriage together. A lot of people first saw your fiance on Nickelodeon on Victorious.

[Halsey]

Yes, I know.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. Did you watch Victorious when you were younger?

[Halsey]

Yeah, I did. You know, I have two little brothers. I was like, maybe like a year or two older than the demographic of the show. But I was, you know, come home every day after school, babysit show was on. Sometimes my brothers would not be in the room and I would be, you know, watching the show. They'd walk in and catch me and they'd be like, you just think Beck is cute. And now I did just think Beck was cute.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. You're like, sorry, now I'm gonna marry Beck.

[Renee Zellweger]

Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Do they look at it now and be like, wait, what? This is the weirdest life?

[Halsey]

Yeah, a little bit. I mean, I feel like they're kind of numb to it because of me. Cause I'm like their annoying older sister. And also, you've done all these things. Yeah, it's very weird for them. Very weird for them. It was weird for me too, though, because, you know, we were having a conversation early in the relations where I was like, you're, you know, you're a child star. Like, that's so crazy. That's so different than the way that it happened for me. You were like, you know, 17 on Nickelodeon, like a huge star. And he was like, how old were you when you wrote Badlands? And I was like, 18. And I was like, oh, my God, was I a child star?

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Halsey]

And it freaked me out.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Is it interesting, right?

[Halsey]

Oh, it freaked me out. I had to, like. I was like, oh, my gosh. Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You worked on this album during your video. Very difficult time in your life. And I'm so happy you're here, by the way.

Talking to me about this. What all went down.

So I actually had just come and done the show with you. I don't know if you remember, I had big blonde hair and, you know, it was like, I look different every time I do the show. Sorry.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, good. You can.

[Halsey]

Yeah, it's fun for me. And I had just done the show with you. And I was doing this other big tour for my fourth album. And I came home from the tour, I started not feeling well. And it was around that time that I got hit with two pretty big diagnoses. The first was lupus. And then after that, I got diagnosed with a chronic leukemia. Big news. I had a one year old baby at home. And I was like, whoa, this is a lot.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, my gosh.

[Halsey]

But, you know, I think that I took some time to recover because I really needed to. And, you know, I'm. I'm really, really doing so much better. I'm healthy now. Both conditions are, like, under control. And I'm just really excited to get back out and have fun again.

[Jimmy Fallon]

So happy.

[Halsey]

Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

So happy. And I was thinking about today. Oh, my gosh. I can't imagine what you're going through.

[Halsey]

It just makes you really grateful, I think. You know, I think that, you know, in our lines of work, it's like you do the show, you do the thing, and it gets tiring. And there does come a point every now and then where you're like, like about it. I'm tired. I don't wanna go in and do this. I'm having an off day, you know, And I think that since coming back from that experience, just every day I wake up being like, you get to do this, not you have to do this.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Halsey]

You know, and it just. It makes all of it so much better. And I'm five albums deep and 30 now, so that's good. I feel that way.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, no, it's good.

[Renee Zellweger]

Yeah.
