We know I said no at the beginning, and it was my team that convinced me to do it and then my husband who made me do it. And, you know, I was in the Spice Girls for four years, and it was a time that I'm so proud of, but I was so defined by that four year period. And I've been in the fashion industry for 20 years now, and it just felt like the right time to really reflect. You know, I'm always looking forward. You know, I always say dream big and then dream even bigger. But working on this documentary a was like a year's intense therapy. It really. It really was. But also, you know, looking back on my journey, it's made me feel so proud. And finally, after all these years, I've struggled. You know, it's been 20 years of a struggle with the fashion business. It's a tough, tough industry.

It's not an easy business at all.

[Victoria Beckham]

It's not. And I've been really honest and really transparent in the, in the documentary. And I've been told no so much my entire life. And I've worked hard, and I think I've proven that. If you work hard and you know, you just keep going that you can achieve great things. And I'm so proud of what I've achieved and proud that I can now share that journey and hopefully inspire other people.

So my dad was a real entrepreneur, you know, he really inspired me. And he came from nothing. And he used to drive a van. Cause he had an electrical business. And he would drive us to school in the van and we were happy. But then when he did very well in the 80s, the first thing he did was go and buy himself a Rolls Royce. And we were devastated. Like, kids just want to fit in, right?

Yeah, you don't want to sit in.

We used to beg him.

We used to beg him. We were like, please take us in the van. We don't want to go in the Rolls Royce. So we were keeping it real, Jimmy.

In actual fact, it really helped me out because in the Spice Girls, the other girls didn't like designer clothes. So when we would do videos or go on stage, they were happy to just wear all the free stuff, and I got all the budget.

Here's you playing at MSG last night. What does it feel like to play Madison Square Garden?

[Victoria Beckham]

That's insane. Incredible. Knowing how many artists performed there, how many athletes played there like big names and just be in line with those people. It's. It's incredible. I will definitely remember that moment for the rest of my life. That was my first time, by the way. Yeah, that was. That was. Oh, my God. That was an experience.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It's intense, right? It's fun.

[Victoria Beckham]

I was gonna. I watch you and I'm just in awe because you're one of the greatest athletes. You're just phenomenal to watch. And sometimes I was going to ask you if you're in a massive lead, if you're in a big league and you're like, okay, this is a Blowout. Kind of. Does your brain ever wander and you start thinking about other things besides tennis?

You know what? It's so funny, actually, guys, but so many times I started thinking about, did my team made a reservation in my favorite place, and I was like, really? Yes. And I started thinking, like, about the order, what I'm going to order, and then I have to bring myself back every time. Like, come on, Irina. You're still on the court. You're still really.

The job is. It's not finished yet.

Yeah, and. Yeah, like, so many times, like, different stuff is getting.

I have zero control over it. You know, one time we played an exhibition with Novak, and they put mic on me, and I realized that I'm grunting, and I'm like, oh, my God. It was so bad for people. I'm like, we need to offer earplugs to them. You know, it was like, I don't want to annoy people. I wanted to take off the mic, but I think. I think they shut the sound on my mic when I was hitting the ball.

[Victoria Beckham]

So it was. I mean, come on, you know.

[Jimmy Fallon]

But does it mean anything to you? Does that mean, like, you're more focused or are you thinking about reservations? What are you thinking about when you are making that noise? You're like, I want to win. Is that what it means?

[Victoria Beckham]

I mean, that's the only. I mean, almost the only thing in my head when I'm playing the match, aside of making the reservation. But I don't know, I have zero control over it, like, unfortunately for so many people.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Well, it makes you win here. Are you holding the 24 and 25 US Open women's singles championship trophies.

You have a big battle of the sexes match coming up later this month against Nick Kyrgios. Tell me about this. Why did you want to bring this back?

[Victoria Beckham]

I mean, I like to challenge myself and playing against the male athlete, I mean, against Nick, it's a big challenge and I like it. I like to accept it. And also, I think we're kind of like bringing tennis to the next level because the visibility that it got already, it's incredible. And a lot of big people coming to watch us.

[Jimmy Fallon]

But I remember the other battle of the sexes was like Billie Jean King.

[Victoria Beckham]

Yeah. It's a historical moment, but I think we're, we're doing it for fun reason, to help tennis grow. And it's already got a lot of attention and it's just gonna be fun. It's gonna be great. High level match for sure. And I'm gonna kick his ass. That's 100%, guys.

Really, you're gonna go for it.

[Victoria Beckham]

You don't understand how stressed he is, because for him, it's a lose, lose. For me, it's the win, win, right?

So I'm so excited and it's just gonna bring a lot of attention. You're going to crash. I feel like it's gonna help tennis to grow, you know?

I saw something online, by the way, I thought was interesting that I don't know if you still do this, but there was a thing where you would sign your coach Jason's head, his bald head with your signature, and that would bring you good luck. Is this true? And how did this start?

[Victoria Beckham]

I know. I mean, people know how silly our team is. And sometimes we just like to do silly things. And then he was just saying like, oh, sign my head. And I'm like, I will do that. I found the sharpie. I did sign it and it brought a good luck. I won the tournament. And it's actually been a while since I've done that.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, I'm not. I mean, I'm not. I don't have a beautiful bald head like he does, but.

[Victoria Beckham]

It'S not enough space. Actually, my signature is quite big, so.
