Jimmy Fallon
From Studio 6P in Rockefeller center in the heart of New York City, it's the Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon. Tonight, join Jimmy and his guests, Miley Cyrus, Annie Murphy, Benson Boone. And featuring the legendary Ruth Grove. 2143. Jimmy. And now, here he is. Give me. Thank you very much. Enjoy yourself. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here. You made it. Thank you. Well, guys, today there was a severe weather alert here in New York City due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Usually when Canadian smoke hits New York City, it means Seth Rogen is in town. Of course, things are different between the US And Canada. I mean, last year, Canada would have been like. But this year it's like, sorry, not sorry. You know? Some political news. Apparently President Trump is furious at Elon Musk for turning on him and bashing his big, beautiful bill. Trump and Elon's relationship blew up faster than a SpaceX rocket. You can tell Trump is really mad at Elon because earlier today he was seen driving a Prius. And that's not true. Yep. Trump said he hasn't felt this betrayed since McDonald's started putting Apple slices in Happy Meals. Like, what is going on? Yep. Trump is now feuding with Musk. It's orange versus white. It's like watching a creamsicle attack itself. That's right. It's Musk against Trump. Billionaire versus billionaire. Right now, Americans are watching like, guys, guys, guys. Both of your social media companies stink. Okay, Come on. Meanwhile, a bunch of House Republicans said they regret voting for Trump's big, beautiful bill because they didn't realize what was in it. They admitted that they didn't read the bill. Check out what they're saying. First, Congressman Jack Bergman said, I didn't read the bill. I was at a movie theater loudly unwrapping hard candy. Wow. And Congressman Hal Rogers said, hey, that was my excuse. Ex Congressman Mike Rogers said, I didn't read the bill. I was busy combing my very real hair. And Congressman Chuck Edwards said, hey, that was my excuse. Next, Congressman Jeff Van Drew said, I didn't read the bill. I had to work part time at Santa's workshop. Congressman David Schweikart said, hey, that was my excuse. Next up, Congresswoman Carol Miller said, I didn't read the bill. I had to go to a prom in the 80s. And Congresswoman Ann Wagner said, hey, that was my excuse. Next, Congressman Mike Ruley said, I didn't read the bill. I was busy staring into strangers windows at night. Then Congressman Michael Guest said, hey, that was My excuse. Wow. Next, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx said, I didn't read the bill. I was busy pinching my grandson's cute little cheeks. And finally, Congressman Cliff Bentz said, I'm her grandson. Which was the one? Which one got you this window? The window. Yeah, Stranger. The window. Some more news from Washington. The Trump administration and China are still negotiating tariffs, and it doesn't seem to be going very well because this morning, Trump posted, I like President Xi of China. Always have and always will, but he is very tough and extremely hard to make a deal with. Yep. All day, Trump was like, she really hates me. And Melania was like, I really do. Yeah. Trump is frustrated with China. I think he's just jealous that they had a great Wall and we don't. I don't know. I could be. Could be wrong. Come on. That was a great. A great wolf. Switching gears, I read that ground beef sold at Whole Food stores nationwide has been recalled due to a potential E. Coli contamination. But since it's Whole Foods, it's organic E. Coli. Hey. It said that the TSA is warning travelers to avoid using charging stations at the airport because hackers can install malware into the outlet. Good advice for everyone. Avoid the one airport outlet. Okay? You hear? Well, listen to this. Authorities in Tennessee are searching for a pet zebra that was seen running down a highway. You know, the owner is watching the news like, damn, I wonder if that's my pet zebra. And finally, guys, it's time for our latest installment of tonight's show Polls. Here we go. This first poll asks, how do you feel about ongoing inflation? 20% said, it's difficult. 30% said, I'm adapting to it. 13,000% said, I don't even notice it. This next poll said, do you snore? 100% said no. 100% of their partners said yes. This next poll asks, how do you feel that Amazon portable chargers were recalled due to overheating and igniting? 49% said, that's scary. 50% said, I don't feel good about that. Tesla said, stay in your lane. Stay in your lane. This next poll asks, what smell says summertime. 54% said, fresh cut grass. 43% said campfire. 3% said, bathing suit left in a bag for a week. That's where it was. Oh. This last one asks, what's Your favorite eyeshadow? 29% said Maybelline. 31% said L' Oreal. 40% said, Let one of Elon's kids punch me while horsing around. That's all the Time we have for tonight's show polls. We have a great show. The one and only Miley Cyrus is here tonight. Annie Murphy is joining us and Benson Boone is here to talk. We'll be right back with Miley Cyrus. Everybody. Come on back. Our first guest is a Grammy winning global music superstar. Her new album Something Beautiful is available now and her film of the same name will be in theaters for one night only on June 12th. Everyone please welcome Miley Cyrus. Miley Haman, the most talented. Come on, Jimmy. My favorite. You are my absolute. Come on.
Miley Cyrus
Hear that? He said I was his favorite.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes, you are.
Miley Cyrus
Well, of course you're my favorite.
Jimmy Fallon
Every time. No.
Miley Cyrus
No one makes me feel better than when I come and sit with you on this couch. And right before SNL 50, I happen to be just a little bit nervous because everyone that I've ever looked up to or watched on TV or loved was there and nervous. Dude, you know this. So I saw you. You were looked. You looked crazy. You had on like some like top hat. Like, what was your.
Jimmy Fallon
I was out of breath.
Miley Cyrus
You got a little out of breath. We're working on that.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm very out of breath.
Miley Cyrus
I'm getting you snatched for the summer. We're getting your body.
Jimmy Fallon
You are?
Miley Cyrus
Yes. You're going to be able to fit in this dress when I'm done with you.
Jimmy Fallon
I need a little help.
Miley Cyrus
I saw Jimmy and I told you. I'm so nervous. This is. See, you were blacked out.
Jimmy Fallon
No, I remember.
Miley Cyrus
This is so nervous. And he goes, this is what we do. Let's go.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Miley Cyrus
And then Jimmy goes out and he's like doing his thing and I'm like, that's what you do?
Jimmy Fallon
That's not quite. No, we do different things. We do. I did that. Yeah, I was doing that. I was doing that.
Miley Cyrus
You and I are very similar, but, you know, cross.
Jimmy Fallon
You made a home run. Oh, my gosh.
Miley Cyrus
I was scared.
Jimmy Fallon
You were so great. Oh, my God. Nothing compared to you.
Miley Cyrus
By the way, my guys over here with the Roots.
Jimmy Fallon
You sounded so good.
Miley Cyrus
I swear, everybody has their, like, you know, when you go on stage, you have your thing that makes you feel like a superhero. Everybody has one. You know, Elvis has a sparkly jumpsuit or Dolly has Dolly, you know, all of that. And for me, it's always been you guys, the Roots playing with you guys. It's, you know that no matter what, even if I left, the stage was gonna be amazing.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, no.
Miley Cyrus
Even if I left. This is what they do every night.
Jimmy Fallon
I've never Seen a performer like you. I've seen you under, like. It's always like walking a tightrope. No net with you. It's. Whatever it is. Lorne knows it.
Miley Cyrus
He forces us to do that.
Jimmy Fallon
I know he does.
Miley Cyrus
I think it's my will.
Jimmy Fallon
No, but, no. You hit home runs. It's not even just base hits. You smack it out of the park. Radio City was nuts.
Miley Cyrus
I love Radio City.
Jimmy Fallon
Numerous times on snl, Every time you've been on this show, you just crush it. You always bring it. And I'm like. I'm just always impressed. I'm like, dang, she just hit another homer.
Miley Cyrus
You know, Lauren, he always says that on the tightrope, you know, which is a live show. They want to see you dangle, but they don't want to see you fall. That is the least soothing mantra ever. He does it to make you feel that other things.
Jimmy Fallon
He said other things.
Miley Cyrus
And then he always tells me. He's like, I've had this talk 100 times with Mick Jagger, kid. You're not going anywhere. And I'm like, oh. So I'm just getting like, the kind of the Mick Jagger.
Jimmy Fallon
No. The spiel. No.
Miley Cyrus
He told Mick Jagger for the last 50 years. Which, you know, if you hang out with Lauren, you're going to hear everything he's ever told Mick Jagger. Of course.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Miley Cyrus
A lot of times.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Miley Cyrus
And whatever he told him is working. So I'm just following Lauren as kind of my North Star. I mean, is there any better?
Jimmy Fallon
Everyone looks at you and just everyone's jaws dropped. They're like, who in the world is Miley Cyrus? You are amazing, dude.
Miley Cyrus
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
You are amazing. Everyone. Everyone says it. And it's been a couple years since you were last here. For starters, you won three Grammy Awards. Congratulations. Thank you.
Miley Cyrus
That was exciting.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, you've had countless hits, but never a Grammy.
Miley Cyrus
That's what I'm saying.
Jimmy Fallon
That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. Flowers.
Miley Cyrus
But the reason I love that I never got a Grammy before was because it was never my compass. It was not my North Star. That wasn't what I was after because I didn't really expect it. And so that's why the show had so much life. And I was genuinely surprised when I got my award. And I didn't even know if I was gonna make it to the Grammys. I said it very quickly as I was mumbling for my acceptance speech, because I actually got stuck in the rain. I got stuck in traffic. I Almost didn't even make it to the receipt.
Jimmy Fallon
That was another performance you crushed, by the way.
Miley Cyrus
Thank you so much. And once I saw Mariah Carey, I knew I was gonna win because I had this whole idea in my mind of, like, the butterfly and that metamorphosis, and she is the butterfly. You know, her album Butterfly has been such a North Star for me. And so when I saw her, I kind of knew I was gonna win because that was just. I just. It was an emcee. MC to mc. I knew I had to get it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Emcee. Wow. That's cool.
Miley Cyrus
I was so excited to meet Mariah Carey, even if I didn't get the trophy, which was very cool. I mean, I love the trophy, but it was really about meeting her. I was so excited you crushed that performance.
Jimmy Fallon
So congrats on doing something different and something.
Miley Cyrus
Something beautiful.
Jimmy Fallon
Beautiful. Good segue. Something beautiful. Let's talk about this. It's the name of the album, but it's also a film that is coming out June 12th.
Miley Cyrus
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Now, you were working on this when you were working on your other album.
Miley Cyrus
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You don't stop working well, so I.
Miley Cyrus
Titled because I'm, like, so in love with every. You know, what I do. It's like when I wake up and life happens daily. It's constant inspiration, and I can't help but write it down.
Jimmy Fallon
What was the first song? What was the first song that you wrote?
Miley Cyrus
Something Beautiful was the first song that I wrote on this record. And it became, again, this compass for me where I knew that this was the path that I was meant to be journeying on right now. And so I just cleverly titled my last album in the Summer Vacation, so then I could be on vacation, and it would look like that was a part of my aesthetic. So all I had to do was take pictures of me in a bathing suit and be like, esv. And that was the promo.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my God.
Miley Cyrus
I know. And all my fans were like, you're not promoting this album. I was like, I'm making the next one.
Jimmy Fallon
People, calm down. I've got it.
Miley Cyrus
I'm wanting the illusion I got it.
Jimmy Fallon
But what's cool about this is. And I think I heard this. I don't know if it's a rumor, whatever, tmz. But something said that Harrison Ford told you what to kind of do with this album.
Miley Cyrus
Well, I saw Harrison Ford at the Disney Legends event, and he asked me, what's up?
Jimmy Fallon
You're both Disney Legends.
Miley Cyrus
We were both Disney Legends.
Jimmy Fallon
That's right, Cool.
Miley Cyrus
And I've known him for a while, so when he asked me, what's up? I told him, you know, I'm not the person. Like, oh, I'm good. You know, it's like, what's up? I'll show you a PDF. I got out the document, and I was like, well, this is what's up. This is what I'm working on. And I showed him, and it was actually titled Somewhere Beautiful. And it was a tour in all these magical places that I can enjoy these shows as much as the audience. So deep in the forest and, you know, in front of the pyramids, he looked at it and goes, looks expensive. Not sure if it's worth it. And walked out.
Jimmy Fallon
And I go, wow.
Miley Cyrus
He's not wrong. So I went and told management, you're not gonna believe what Harrison Ford said. He goes, that's what we've been trying to tell you for years.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Too expensive. I don't know.
Miley Cyrus
The quarter of a budget version is. I shot this at the Paramount lot, and it's a lot cheaper than shooting at the Pyramids. But it's got, you know, it's got the same spirit.
Jimmy Fallon
It's gorgeous.
Miley Cyrus
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
It is gorgeous. It is beautiful. It is fun. It's mysterious. It's. It's. It's. It's beautiful. It's beautiful.
Miley Cyrus
Beautiful.
Jimmy Fallon
Something beautiful. By the way, the song goes nuts around 1 minute 30, by the way.
Miley Cyrus
It does, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, it's fantastic.
Miley Cyrus
Thank you very much.
Jimmy Fallon
And then. But there's also. What's the dance song that you see?
Miley Cyrus
Easy Lover.
Jimmy Fallon
No, I love that too.
Miley Cyrus
Oh, which one are you?
Jimmy Fallon
No, I love the one with Naomi Campbell's.
Miley Cyrus
Oh, you do? Every girl you've ever loved.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Miley Cyrus
That's my favorite.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a jam.
Miley Cyrus
That's my favorite.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, that's to do something.
Miley Cyrus
Here's the thing with Naomi.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Miley Cyrus
What I do is I treat her the way that I'd like to be treated. Call time, 5pm GLAM. Lots of glam.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Miley Cyrus
Lots of clothes. All fabulous things. Keeping her in this, really. This is such a dream and such a fantasy, this project. And that's what I've always loved about supermodels and the Runway and fashion is. It's something that's so out of this world and it's not meant to be something.
Jimmy Fallon
That song is great.
Miley Cyrus
Yeah. That is real. And so I think because I'm a storyteller and, you know, I'm an honest person in my songwriting, that I think that my songwriting can Take a little fantasy because of how much of it is weighted in the realism of my real stories.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Miley Cyrus
You know, so you can do that.
Jimmy Fallon
And also. Yeah. And you can do Easy Lover. Here's the thing about easy Lover. I saw something on the Internet of you rehearsing. Rehearsing dancing, choreography, and you were rehearsing in the highest heels I've ever seen in my life. If I were rehearsing this show, I'm in sweatpants.
Miley Cyrus
And not once I get you that summer body.
Jimmy Fallon
Miley Cyrus, everyone. Her new album, something Beautiful is available now. In the film, Something Beautiful is in theaters for one night only on June 12th. For tonight's show, after the break, everyone stick around. Yes.
Miley Cyrus
Great job.
Jimmy Fallon
Our next guest is an Emmy winning actress starring in season two of the series nine Perfect strangers. New episodes stream Wednesdays on Hulu. Please welcome Eddie Murphy. Thanks for being here.
Annie Murphy
Thanks for having me, man.
Jimmy Fallon
Welcome back to the show. I was doing a little research and I can't believe it's been. Is it 10 years since Schitt's Creek started?
Annie Murphy
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
10 years.
Annie Murphy
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
That doesn't seem like you were. You were obviously phenomenal in that. I wanted to show a picture of you with the cast. Here was the Emmys when they.
Annie Murphy
Yeah, that was last year's when they hosted the Emmys.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And you got there with Catherine o' Hara and Eugene. When you get together, is it like old times? Do you see each other a lot or. No.
Annie Murphy
I mean, we all kind of scattered after the show. Yeah. But I keep in touch with most everybody. And I can always like, knock on someone's door and force them to feed me dinner.
Jimmy Fallon
For the rest of your life.
Annie Murphy
I'm in town.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, of course.
Annie Murphy
And Dan, you know, texts me whenever he's doing something fancy with someone fancy to let me remind me that he's a very fancy man.
Jimmy Fallon
That's what friends are for. Yeah.
Annie Murphy
Yeah, exactly.
Jimmy Fallon
Would you be up for a reunion or a reboot or anything? Is there any.
Annie Murphy
I actually have some. I have not heard a thing.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, that's not a thing. That was the news.
Annie Murphy
Yes. I have not heard a drop. But I would be so, so excited to do something. Although I feel like Dan needs to. Like, who would have to do it?
Jimmy Fallon
Who would have to do it?
Annie Murphy
I think Dan. But he has to hurry up because gravity is, like, doing things to people.
Jimmy Fallon
Gravity is doing things to people. That is so funny.
Annie Murphy
And no one wants that version of.
Jimmy Fallon
No, they don't. No, we'll take any version. We just want you guys back Together. You're so good. Thank you. All right, we're just gonna put it out there. Okay? Yeah.
Annie Murphy
Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
Let's talk about the new season of nine Perfect Strangers. Man, oh, man, you're hitting with some heavy hitters here and holding your own. You're great. Thank you. But Christine Baranski's in this. How is Christine Baranski? She's fun, right?
Annie Murphy
She's the most wonderful. Not to be hyperbolic, but she's truly, like, the most wonderful woman I've ever. She's everything you want Christine Baranski to be. Plus, more like dirty, dirty mind. Like, great hang.
Jimmy Fallon
What? She's just.
Annie Murphy
She's amazing. I had. I had, like, a life moment with her on set. Cause we play a mother and daughter on the show, and we had this one afternoon where we're playing this scene where we're having hallucinogenic drugs administered into our bodies as mothers and daughters do.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it's a very modern show.
Annie Murphy
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we spent the afternoon. We were in these, like, twin beds next to each other. And, you know, on set, it's a lot of waiting around, and it was tight quarters, and so instead of going back to trailers, we just decided to stay in these very cozy beds while.
Jimmy Fallon
The crew worked around.
Annie Murphy
While the crew worked around.
Jimmy Fallon
That's funny.
Annie Murphy
And at one point, she just leans over to me and she's like, you know the best way to make use of your time right now, darling? And I said the first thing that came into my mind, which was Kegels. And she goes. That's exactly what I was going to say.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow. For those of you, that's a really. I didn't think you were gonna go there.
Annie Murphy
For those of you who don't know what Kegels are, it's an exercise that one does to strengthen one's pelvic floor. And you tighten and then release.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah.
Annie Murphy
And so we spent.
Jimmy Fallon
We're good. We're good. Yeah.
Annie Murphy
So we spent the afternoon with her just lying there, and she'd go, Darling, 45 seconds, go. And then they just, like, lie in the bed quietly doing Kegels with each other.
Jimmy Fallon
And how about the great Nicole Kidman? Oh, my God, she's just the greatest. Well, you know, the greatest.
Annie Murphy
No, it was.
Jimmy Fallon
How cool is it to be around Nicole Kidd?
Annie Murphy
It's bizarre. It's a bizarre experience. Like, she's otherworldly.
Jimmy Fallon
She's a pro, ma' am.
Annie Murphy
She's such a pro. And she's so kind of mercurial. And she Can't. I don't know how. She is alive. Like she works so much. She's just.
Jimmy Fallon
She's also a producer on this.
Annie Murphy
She's producing, she's doing all these jobs and so she can act. Oh, my God. And she does every take something completely new, every single take. So you're constantly like just trying to keep up with her. And it was. It was amazing.
Jimmy Fallon
Is that what you do now? Have you taken that from Nicole?
Annie Murphy
No, I just do the same thing every time.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no. Do you want to? I could reintroduce you. You can walk out differently.
Annie Murphy
Yeah, I might try something like scooching on my butt or something.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, maybe we won't do that. Yeah. Tell me all about this show and its setup, what it's about and who you play.
Annie Murphy
So the show, it's the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers. It's about a whole bunch of quite privileged people who decide to go to this retreat, this therapeutic retreat to fix their trauma by ingesting psychedelics.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah. And this is, by the way, it's gorgeous setting.
Annie Murphy
It's beautiful.
Miley Cyrus
We shot your film.
Annie Murphy
Oh, gosh. We shot a bunch of it in studio in Munich and then we got to go like into Austria, into the Alps and shoot there. And it was such a, like, it was pinch me moments every single day.
Jimmy Fallon
How long was the shoot?
Annie Murphy
Six months. We were there for six months.
Jimmy Fallon
Lived in the Alps for six months.
Annie Murphy
Well, yeah, I lived in Munich for six months. But yeah, we got to do all these trips and I did feel quite like, like Heidi.
Jimmy Fallon
You did feel like Heidi? Yeah, why not? Yeah. Come on. Annie Murphy, everybody. New episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers stream Wednesdays on Hulu. Stick around, everybody. Nintendo Swift here. I'm just conversing with your person. This is just a conversation. Three GS with a special presentation. Hey, I like the vibe. So for me it's recreation. It isn't just a job, it's an adventure. Words come to words. I got 31 chopper you got. Our next guest is a Grammy nominated multi platinum artist whose new album American heart is out June 20th. Please welcome Benson Boone. Look at that. Look at that. Benson Boone. Welcome back to the show. I love. Come on. Great to see you, bud. By the way, studly album cover there. Ooh la la. Benson, you've had an amazing year. I thought it'd be kind of fun if I just said some of the things you've done in the last few months and you give me a one sentence sum up of that moment. Does that sound okay to You.
Benson Boone
Yep.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. Benson Boone. The Grammys. Woo.
Benson Boone
That's.
Jimmy Fallon
No, not sound effects. You can. You can give me. You can give me full sentence. One sentence. One sentence. Yeah, you don't have to. Or you can maybe sound effect and a sentence.
Benson Boone
Well, yeah, it was more like a. Wow, that's tight.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. Coachella.
Benson Boone
Crowd.
Jimmy Fallon
Now you're giving me. No, now you're giving me just one word and then you're stopping. You're stopping.
Benson Boone
Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
You can give me a sentence if you want. Full sentence. Well, if you want to. But crowd is pretty good. Like.
Benson Boone
Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. Crowd. Ah. Like you're an. I got that. All right. Woo. And.
Benson Boone
Ah.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. The VMAs. Yeah. You're good at this.
Benson Boone
It was very sparkly. My outfit was very sparkly.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, that's good. It was the ERAS Tour. Whoa. Lollapalooza. Okay.
Benson Boone
I still don't think I could spell it.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. The American Music Awards. Mm. Moonbeam Ice Cream. Oh, yeah.
Benson Boone
Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
Very good. Thank you. Very good. There we go. Thank you for doing that. I appreciate it.
Benson Boone
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Moonbeam, your fans love you on the Internet. You have a lot of great fans and you're very engaged with them. Do you check on things and do you read the Internet and.
Benson Boone
Oof. Yes. Yes and no. I think lately, over the last couple months, I've tried to look less.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Benson Boone
So I'm on it. I think now, like a healthy amount where I kind of limit myself a little bit.
Jimmy Fallon
You don't want it to get to you. I mean, because you were talking a little bit backstage and you said, yeah, you kind of started a kind of or kind of helped start a little. Who is Benson Boone Type of deal.
Benson Boone
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that's the thing. It kind of went really right, but really wrong. So a couple.
Jimmy Fallon
I like this story.
Benson Boone
A couple months ago when I first, you know, posted the Moonbeam Ice Cream.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Benson Boone
I was like, you know, what is Moonbeam ice Cream? Like, nobody knows. I don't know. And so, you know, I was like, you know, maybe it'd be nice to kind of spark some just interest.
Jimmy Fallon
Internet chatter.
Benson Boone
Yeah. Maybe I like, hire a couple people to be like, yo, what is Moonbeam ice cream? Why is this guy singing about Moonbeam ice Cream? Where did he come up with this? I kind of like, you know, get.
Jimmy Fallon
Into it, play a little bit. Yeah. Try to have.
Benson Boone
So it went downhill quick, you know, People started doing like, oh, what's Moonbeam ice Cream?
Jimmy Fallon
I hate Benson Moon. Wow. Really drove off a cliff. There you go. Wow. That fast.
Benson Boone
But, you know, if I'm being honest, like, it worked pretty well. Yeah, it worked pretty well.
Jimmy Fallon
People started talking about you. Yeah.
Benson Boone
Yeah. Oh, yeah. They did.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. I gotta say, I just think. And I really meant this. I said it to you backstage. But every performance I've seen you in have been giant big chances and performances, and you hit a home run with every performance. I really am so impressed.
Benson Boone
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
You're just amazing. Thank you. Everything I've seen. Thank you. Everything I've listed, you've nailed.
Benson Boone
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
You've nailed. And I just think I gotta commend you for that, because I go, man, this kid is going for it with the jumpsuit and everything. And Mystical, Magical.
Benson Boone
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Mystical, Mystical, Magical.
Benson Boone
Yes. Mystical, Magical.
Jimmy Fallon
Mystical, magical has over 13 million views. Come on, Boo. Come on. Come on. Boo.
Benson Boone
Come on.
Jimmy Fallon
By the way, where did the Moonbeam ice cream come. Where did that line come from? I know you said you don't know what it is, but what kind of. What does it mean?
Benson Boone
That's a great question. So I write pretty much everything. Me and this guy Jack, and I love Jack, but we are very unserious when we're together. Like, when we work. Even, like, the song I'm singing is Night at the Mama Song. It's a very serious song. But, like, that song session, the day we wrote that song, like, you would have thought we were trying to not write the mama song.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, really?
Benson Boone
Do something. Something way better. But, like, we just. We connect so well, and we were just kind of having a day. It was like a weird, you know, kind of a whimsical day. I've never used that word before.
Jimmy Fallon
Whimsical day. We'll never see a song by Benson Boone called Whimsical Day.
Benson Boone
But, you know, as we get on through the session, we kind of came to, like, what's called writer's block. And it's when you have a melody already, but, like, you cannot think of a lyric. You just beat it up and beat it up. And Jack's sitting there, and we're kind of goofing off, and he just goes, you know what if you just did this? And it looked like he was gonna say something really good. And we've been sitting there for an hour. I'm like, this is it. And here he goes. Moonbeam ice cream Taking off your blue jeans. And I was like, you know what?
Jimmy Fallon
You know what? Sometimes you gotta go with it at this point. It's a placeholder, at least. Yeah, it's a placeholder.
Benson Boone
Yeah. So. But then it was a placeholder for the day. And then we went home and listened to it. And I was like, you know what? Moonbeam Ice Cream.
Jimmy Fallon
I'll take it.
Benson Boone
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Now, has anyone approached you from, like, Ben and Jerry's or.
Benson Boone
Yeah. Yes. Well, Ben and Jerry's hasn't responded.
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Benson Boone
I hope you're watching this. Ben and Jess.
Jimmy Fallon
Ben. And yes, they do watch this show. They have not called you yet.
Benson Boone
Please. Haagen Dazs. And then we got something coming. When the album drops, we'll have, you know, like a. I don't know if I'm allowed to say it. It's not like a huge. Well, I know it's huge. It's.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, but you'll have something.
Benson Boone
Yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You'll have. We might see Moonbeam Ice Cream.
Benson Boone
Moonbeam Ice Cream.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Can we talk about the album cover and the album title, American Heart.
Benson Boone
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Now, I feel very protective of you, Benson.
Benson Boone
It's all lighting.
Jimmy Fallon
How. No, it's not. There's no way. But how'd you come up with the title American Heart?
Benson Boone
That's a great question. There's one song on the album called Young American Heart. And to me, that's, like, the inspiration track of the whole album. And it's about me and my best friend. I grew up with this guy, so I have. Okay, this is gonna be like. Why are you saying this? I have four sisters, okay? This dude Eric, he's got five sisters. And we met, like, when I was six months old. He's like the first dude I literally remember and.
Jimmy Fallon
Six months. Yeah.
Benson Boone
And so, like, we. We didn't have any brothers, but we just had each other. And that's kind of a good line. Yeah, please. I'll take a sec. But when we were younger, we got in a car accident. And it wasn't like a typical car accident. We were driving in a field. We were driving his backyard and we flipped the car. And in that moment, I was young. I was maybe like 15 or 16. And when you're 15 or 16, you're never like, oh, wow. It would really suck to die right now because you don't even think about death. You're like, 15.
Jimmy Fallon
You're invincible.
Benson Boone
Or 16. Exactly. And in that moment, it was like the first time in my life that I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, this dude, my best friend, he means everything to me. I don't want to die right now. A young American. So it's not like a. It's not meant to be some patriotic. Like, this is who I voted for. It's more like it's me as Benson Boone, the little kid that grew up with a dream to just like continue and doing things that I love with the people that I love. And that's kind of. It kind of sets the tone for the album, in my opinion.
Jimmy Fallon
I love it.
Benson Boone
Thank you. Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
You're about to go on a new arena tour.
Benson Boone
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
This is a big deal. It sold out in nine seconds. I don't know if you know that. That's big, dude. Congratulations.
Benson Boone
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a big deal. How do we describe the tour to Everybody wants to go see you.
Benson Boone
Yeah. Well, it's sold out in nine seconds. No, but this is like, this is by far the biggest tour I've ever done. And it's a big moment for me, for people to just know who I am. You go to the show and this is by far the best performance I will ever up to this point in my life put on. And it's a full on show. I might even change my outfit during the show, which I'll be, yeah, that's a big deal. But I'm really excited to just put myself into the world and let people just see who Benson Boone really is.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And will there be, I have to ask, will there be a flip? This is insane. Benson Boone, you flipped off the piano. You flipped off things. I go, dude, what is this flipping thing? And it looks so. It's scary to me again, as your friend.
Benson Boone
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You know.
Benson Boone
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
You know, I've never been through the fields with you, but I'm still your friend.
Benson Boone
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And I worry about you and I don't want to lose you and I don't want you flipping over everything. So is there. There's no guaranteed flips? Do you plan your flips?
Benson Boone
No.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you practice your flips?
Benson Boone
No.
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Benson Boone
They, they, they just kind of. I've been doing them forever. They, they like, if you knew me growing up and you saw a video of me now and you hadn't seen anything else, like if you. If you went to preschool with me.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Benson Boone
And then you just had not heard the name Benson Boone since then, and then you see a video of me doing a backflip that she'd probably be like, he's still doing this.
Jimmy Fallon
Like, could you do a flip right now and think, I didn't think you're really going to do it. Oh, my God. Benson Boone. American heart is out. June 20th. Stick around, everybody. What in the. What, dude? My thanks to Miley Cyrus, Annie Murphy, Nate Buldog, Benson Boone once again, that is how you do it. Fantastic. And the Roots right there from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
