From Studio 6P in Rockefeller center in the heart of New York City. Mr. Tonight shows, starring Jimmy Fallon. And I joined Jimmy and his guest, Ice Pee Isabella Rosalindi. And featuring the legendary roots root 2063. And now here he is, Jimmy Bell. And that's fantastic. I love you. I love you. Enjoy yourself. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here. You made it. Thank you for watching. Well, guys, everybody is excited about this. Tonight was the 93rd annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting. And I hope you guys are a fun crowd because right now there are so many people outside. We're going to have to have a sleepover here till New Year's. That's going to be fun. There's literally tens of thousands of people outside to see the tree. It's crazy out there. After the show, I'm going to hang out in the middle of Times Square just to relax for a little bit. I got to say, Rockefeller center during the holidays is the best because there's two things that bring an instant smile to everyone's face. Seeing the tree lit up and watching ice skaters fall on the rink. I mean, those are the two things. It's the best. I really do love when the Christmas tree is here because for six weeks instead of weed, the city smells like pine. Sorry, pine scented weed. And that's what I like. I saw that this year's tree is 74ft tall, 43ft wide and weighs 11 tons. Today, its friends tried politely suggesting that it start taking tree. Govee and I, that was tonight's tree lighting was a special two hour TV special that's right between the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the tree lighting is basically lip sync week on NBC. Well, speaking of the holiday, I wish I could lip sync right now. Speaking of the holidays, me. What are you talking about? I didn't lip sync. No, you're mistaken. I said a joke purely from my heart.
Tariq Trotter
Tariq, am I right?
Jimmy Fallon
Yes, you're very right. Well, speaking of the holidays.
Isabella Rossellini
I saw.
Jimmy Fallon
That a shopping mall in Los Angeles is charging $165 for kids to meet Santa. These kids are so rich, Santa asked them for presents. Normally, if sitting on someone's lap costs $165, you're not at the mall. You know what I'm saying? I don't know what to mean. Some political news. I read that President Elect Trump is considering replacing Pete HEGSETH With Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as his nominee for defense secretary. When asked why he'd hire Ron DeSantis, Trump said, could it be really fun to fire Ron DeSantis? That's why it's all worth it. We'll get this. Last night, Trump's pick to lead the Drug Enforcement Agency withdrew his name from consideration. He was like, yeah, I didn't know there'd be a drug test. Some more political news. I saw that incoming Senate Majority leader John Thune plans to rush several bills through Congress in the first 30 days of Trump's second term. He just released a statement about his plan. Check out what Thune had to say. He said, I can't wait to get started. We are seriously going to get so much accomplice. Sorry. Not thori then. That's what he said. Then Senator Jim Rich spoke up and said, yeah, I can't wait for dish. I've missed working with you, you son of a Bishop. When I see you, I'm going to give you a kish and a lipsch. Then Congressman August Pfluger said, flir things flourish, let's follow each other on Facebook. Best flends flur ever. Then Jim Risch said, yeah, anyway, Merry Christmas. And finally, Jon Thune said, merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you, Thune. Yeah, they're happy guys. Well, switching gears, people are excited about this. Today, the highly anticipated Spotify Wrapped 2024 was released. Yep. Today you're either sharing your Spotify wrapped or realizing you listened to a little too much Sabrina carpenter for a 50 year old man. Well, a lot of people are talking about a new documentary on Max that's all about the musical genre, yacht rock. Yeah, you know yacht rock? It's the soft rock sound made popular by Steely Dan, Kenny Lages, and of course, Michael McDonald. And that's weird. I'm getting a call from an unknown fan. Hello. You don't know me, but I'm a fan. You're a fan? Well, thank you. What's on your mind? I watched a yacht rob dog on Match last night. Oh, nice. What'd you think? It was just my kind of movie. Well, that's great. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Everyone should go and watch. Yeah, okay, great. Well, maybe I will. You, Me, you and quest up in the documentary. Oh, really? That's fun. I think it might win awards from the Academy. Well, it seems a little early for you to say that. I'm sorry, what's your name again? I'm just a random guy. All right, well, thanks for calling in. Not Michael McDonald, everyone. Bringing it to Jew it is.
Isabella Rossellini
Oh.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, well, listen to this. The FBI is investigating Mysterious aircrafts that keep appearing over New Jersey. Or as they call them In New Jersey, UFOs. Hey, I waited all monologue just for that joke. That's my Spotify rap joke of the year. That was it.
Tariq Trotter
Well worth it.
Jimmy Fallon
And finally. Not worth it. Well worth it. Oh, well worth it. Thank you. Yeah. Finally, a German man is more than 60 days into his attempt to break the world record for longest time spent spent living underwater. At least we hope we have a great show. Give it up for the Roots, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome, welcome. Enjoy yourself. Thank you very much. Enjoy us, everybody. Welcome to the show. Thank you for being here. And thanks to everyone who at home who watched my holiday special that was just aired just now. Jimmy Fallon's holiday seasoning spectacular. There it is here. I'm very excited about this. Ooh, look at this. That's the thing. This is. The special was on tonight and I want to thank everyone who was on it with me. The Jonas Brothers, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, LL Cool J, Dolly Parton, Meghan Trainor, Weird Al Yankovic, Cara Delevingne, JB Smooth, the Rockettes, and of course, the Ruths. Right? Right. That's good. Look at that. That's for you, Higgins. Ooh, a baby record. No, these are. These is a se. This is a compact disc. Oh, it's compact. It uses laser beams to read the track. Ooh, yeah. Wow. I'll get my RAV4 and I'll listen to that. Hey, if you missed the special. Did you miss the special? I did, cuz I was here working. That's right. Well, don't worry about it.
Tariq Trotter
Why not? How can I see it?
Jimmy Fallon
It will be streaming on Peacock starting tomorrow. Really? Yeah. That's actually right.
Tariq Trotter
Oh, thank goodness.
Jimmy Fallon
You're welcome. But first, what a show we have for you tonight. He stars on Law and Order SVU, which is back with new episodes January 16th right here on NBC. And his band Body Count has a new album out now, Merciless. Ice T is here. This even. Stick around. We'll be right back with ice tea, everybody. Congratulations. Ding dong, ding dong, ding dong, ding. Who gets a Christmas Ding ding dong. You can only get one if you sing along.
Tariq Trotter
Our first guest star on Law and.
Jimmy Fallon
Order SVU, which returns with all new episodes January 16th on NBC. And his band Body Count is out now with their new album called Merciless. Please welcome the one and only Ice T. They love you. We love you. Welcome back to.
Tariq Trotter
How much you pay them to do that?
Jimmy Fallon
Never. Oh, never. No, they're real New Yorkers. And people here. Yeah, they're here to see you. Welcome back. Yeah, they love you, boo. There you go.
Tariq Trotter
That's what's up.
Jimmy Fallon
How was your Thanksgiving? Everything great? How's the fam?
Tariq Trotter
I mean, Thanksgiving's cool. I mean, I'm not. I finance holidays. I don't really do them so much.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Tariq Trotter
You know what I'm saying? I finance hol. Thanksgiving. I buy the food and then I just show up for 20 minutes, eat, and I'm out.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. 20 minutes.
Tariq Trotter
Christmas. Coco does all that. If it wasn't for her, there would be no holidays as far as iced tea's concerned.
Jimmy Fallon
I love Coco and Chanel. It was her birthday around Thanksgiving. Right?
Tariq Trotter
Her birthday landed this year on Thanksgiving. Cause Thanksgiving kind of floats around, you know, the end of November. This time it landed right on it. So we had her ninth birthday.
Jimmy Fallon
How? Oh, nine. She's so cute. I've known her since she was a baby.
Tariq Trotter
Baby.
Jimmy Fallon
Look at how cute. Oh, my gosh. Did you have a big. I mean, big party or just Thanksgiving?
Tariq Trotter
She kind of had like a week. A week holiday. Because we went to Arizona. That's where Coco's family is. And we did this and we did that. They went on this train ride called the Polar Express to God knows where and the mountains and all that. I don't do that. No. I don't do that.
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Tariq Trotter
One of the reasons we've been able to be married so long is Coco knows already. Things I won't do.
Jimmy Fallon
She's like. Yeah.
Tariq Trotter
She's like, we're gonna do this. You don't wanna do it. We're gonna do this.
Jimmy Fallon
We'll do it. Yeah, Exactly.
Tariq Trotter
And we don't argue about it. We just let it ride like that.
Jimmy Fallon
You guys are great together. Great couple. You know, we always talk about this. I follow you on the socials. She's a great follow, always have been. But you have these motivational and inspiring quotes called Ice Cold Facts that you post. And I think it's kind of nice to show them to our audience every time you're on. Just to remind people to motivate you a little bit.
Tariq Trotter
Yeah. I'm on Twitter at Final Level. I'm on Instagram @icemft.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it's a good follow. So check it out. Here's an ice cold fact. Here's an ice cold fact. You'll get. Okay, this one says people get upset when you're not exactly how they want you to be. But whose problem is that? Be yourself. Right.
Tariq Trotter
I think people especially, like, as far as What I do in music and different things. They want you to stay one place. Like some SVU fans in the building.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Tariq Trotter
Just do svu. That's what you do. Be Otofen Tutuola, Be this character. I love it. And then they're not ready for you to live your life and be other things. So, yeah, you have to have the courage to do what you want to do, no matter what other people want. Just be you.
Jimmy Fallon
Just be you.
Tariq Trotter
You know?
Jimmy Fallon
I agree with that. I like this one, too. This was. The grass looks greener on the other side. Because it's fake.
Tariq Trotter
Right?
Jimmy Fallon
Right.
Tariq Trotter
I mean. I mean, if you. If you're on social media, you're on Instagram or something like that, what you're looking at is a highlight reel of people's lives. It' the real. It's the moment when they're in the greatest light. The picture. They got the filters. They're standing in front of somebody else's car, and they're just. And then you go, oh, wow. They got this great life. Some people I follow seem like they're on a perpetual vacation. Like, do you ever work? Like, you went from this place to that place, but it's fake?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it's all fake.
Tariq Trotter
It's fake.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. I like this one here, too. It says people be lying knowing they lying. Knowing, you know they lying and still lie. That's the best one. That's the best one you ever did.
Tariq Trotter
Have you ever sat in a room with a friend of yours and they just start lying and you know they're lying and they know you know they're lying and they keep lying, and you just gotta look at them like, really? Is that. That really happened? You know, like. And they might even incorporate you in that lie.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Tariq Trotter
And we all know, but we just say we got a thing. We used to say, well, it's your story, so I'm going to let you tell it.
Jimmy Fallon
It's yours too. I'm going to let you tell it.
Tariq Trotter
Go ahead, tell it.
Jimmy Fallon
Sure, why not? This one says trophies and awards are cool. I received a few, but I truly prefer bank deposits. These are all I get that I.
Tariq Trotter
Won a Grammy, right. Recently. And then I'm like, it didn't come with no money. Right. It's just a Grammy. And then all my boys, like, I want a Grammy. So I had to actually go make duplicate Grammys. I don't even know if that's okay. But I did it, and it cost me money to win the Grammys.
Jimmy Fallon
Cost you money?
Tariq Trotter
Cost me money, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
This One last one. It says everything happens for a reason. But sometimes the reason is you're stupid and you make bad decisions.
Tariq Trotter
That's self explanatory. Yeah, that's the reason, you dumbass.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Let's talk about the new album with your band. There's nothing more else to say there. Let's talk about your new album with Body Count. It is called Merciless. It's getting rave reviews. Congratulations on this. What's a big deal?
Tariq Trotter
We're getting the best reviews I think I've ever got on any record. And I'm like, what's going on? You know, and we're just happy about it. And, you know, we went on tour in Europe. I think, you know, the last album was good. Carnivore is the one we won. We won best medal performance.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you won the Grammy.
Tariq Trotter
And then Covid hit and we could never perform anything from it. So the label calls me and go, make another record. I'm like, make another record. Are you? You don't understand. When you make a record, it's like you shot your wad. It's over. You did everything. Now make. Right, it's over. Yeah, because usually you make a record, you might make 20 records for 12. You've thrown away eight records and the label says, make another record. You can't use those eight you got rid of. You gotta start from scratch.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. It takes a lot of time, attention, love.
Tariq Trotter
They don't think that. They think you just sit on the toilet and crap one out. They just like, you know. So I start working on Merciless. I'm looking at horror movies back to back during COVID I'm looking at all this madness, all this politics stuff, and I just start writing and writing. And then I just said, you know what? Who knows if this is my last album? I'm gonna get everything off my chest. And it came out good and people are loving it.
Jimmy Fallon
Congratulations again. You and the band perform your song Comfortably Numb, which is a classic Pink Floyd song. And you got a collab with David Gilmore. Pink Floyd said yes to you. They don't say yes to anyone.
Tariq Trotter
Not only David Gilmore, but David Gilmore and Roger Waters, who haven't agreed on anything in 20 years.
Jimmy Fallon
That is correct.
Tariq Trotter
So, you know, I.
Jimmy Fallon
How did this come about? Are you kidding me? I'm freaking out. I cannot wait for you to play this.
Tariq Trotter
Well, rappers always listen to music for tracks they could rap over, break beats, things like that. And I always liked the baseline, the Comfortably Numb. I wanted to rap on it. Then I said, well, let's just do it with Body Count, right? So I do it. I write the lyrics to it, we lay it out, and then I just don't think about the politics. So they go, okay, you gotta send this to Pink Floyd to get it approved. And everybody's like, that's not gonna happen. So we send it to the publishers, and they said, no. Pink Floyd doesn't allow samples or covers. So I was dead in the water. I was ready to trash the song. And then my manager somehow got to David Gilmore's manager, and David heard the record and was blown away. Just by the lyrics. The lyrics. Because it's his music, but it was the lyrics. He said, I totally approve it. So then they go, okay, we gotta get Roger Waters now. I don't know what's going on with them. I don't know. I mean, I don't know. So Roger Waters listens to it, and he said, well, who's singing? And he said, I see. He approved it. So now you got two people on opposite sides that approved the song, which made me feel really good. Cause that means that the song is honest and real.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Tariq Trotter
And then Gilmore says, I wanna play on it.
Jimmy Fallon
This is insane. Like, he doesn't do this, right? Legendary. One of the best guitarists on earth.
Tariq Trotter
Yeah. So he plays on it, then he says, what's up with the video? So we send a crew over there in London. We said, well, we can shoot them. Where do we need to shoot? They said, well, Dave has five studios.
Jimmy Fallon
Just.
Tariq Trotter
He'll be. He'll be able to do it. And we shoot him. And the record came out. It's different. We're gonna perform it tonight.
Jimmy Fallon
That's awesome, bro. Congratulations. Thank you for doing that. Thanks for being here. Let's talk law and order SVU. This is 26th season, right now. Is that funny? That is incredible.
Tariq Trotter
I came on for four episodes.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Tariq Trotter
And 26 seasons later, I'm like, really, man?
Jimmy Fallon
You know?
Tariq Trotter
But I'm black. I don't jump off a boat while it's floating. And I can swim.
Jimmy Fallon
And he can.
Tariq Trotter
Swim, and I can swim.
Jimmy Fallon
But 26 seasons. Are you gonna. You gotta. Are you gonna make it to 30? Are you having fun?
Tariq Trotter
Well, honestly, at the end of the day, it's Mariska's show. It's morphed into the Olivia Benson. And as long as Mariska wants to keep doing the show, I think we got at least 30, easy. We're on 20, season 26, I think at least 30. It's funny because Dick Wolf, Mariska, like, go Buy another house. He like, yes, Keep spending your money.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Tariq Trotter
That means we're doing it right. But I mean, I love working with her. I love working with everybody. It's a beautiful, like, crew and cast. We get new cast members, and we're just very fortunate. The fan base just keeps growing. I met this girl the other day. She said, I've been watching this show my entire life. And she was 23. She was not lying.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow. She was lessons with the baby. Yeah. She grew up with it.
Tariq Trotter
Mm.
Jimmy Fallon
Come on, boy. That's how you do it. Ice T, Everybody. Law and SVU returns with new episodes January 16th on NBC. And his new body count album merciless is out now. Isabella Rossellini joins us after the break. Stick around, everybody.
Isabella Rossellini
Because I went to non school.
Tariq Trotter
Brilliance.
Jimmy Fallon
Our next guest is an Emmy nominated performer who stars in the new hit film conclave which is in theaters and on digital now. Please welcome Isabella Rossellini.
Isabella Rossellini
I'm delighted to be here.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm so excited that you're here. I have so many things I want to get into. First thing that comes to mind is death becomes her. Your film that you made is having a resurgence. This is you in the film. Here it is now on Broadway. It's a Broadway musical.
Isabella Rossellini
It's a Broadway musical. It just opened. I haven't seen it yet because I was mostly in France. I just came for four days for Thanksgiving. But as soon as I come back, because I have to go back. As soon as I come back, that's the first thing I want to do.
Jimmy Fallon
But did they ask you to do something special?
Isabella Rossellini
Yes, sir. They asked me to do the voice. You know, the voice that comes and says, turn off your phone and the emergency exit is. And I said, but do people recognize me? And they say, oh, some will, because you have such a different voice. I said, really?
Jimmy Fallon
What do you.
Isabella Rossellini
They say an accent. Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay. That's right.
Jimmy Fallon
It sounds so good. Are people recognizing you from your.
Isabella Rossellini
Well, I asked. Some people did recognize me because they stopped me in the street and said, we went to see death become sir and we heard your voice, and I was surprised it wasn't my family. So some people recognize it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Do you get quoted all the time? Because obviously you crushed it in friends with Ross and then also 30 Rock. Oh, my. Do they?
Isabella Rossellini
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, you're so great on both. Do they yell those quotes?
Isabella Rossellini
They do. People sometimes when I'm in the street and they recognize me, they don't call My name. But they throw me one of my quote from the film, and I've forgotten it, you know, because I might have done it 30 years ago.
Jimmy Fallon
Of course.
Isabella Rossellini
And one of them was a curse. Don't you f. Look at me. Somebody screamed at me that in the street. So I start running.
Jimmy Fallon
I thought, it's New York City. Of course, you're right. Get out of there. Yeah.
Isabella Rossellini
And the person kept on running after me. Don't you f me. Don't you. And then he said, I. I love Blue Velvet is my favorite film.
Jimmy Fallon
Ah, God, thank goodness. Nice to meet you. Oh, my God. Yes. But you grew up with famous parents. Yes. Your mother, legendary Ingram Ingrid Bergman, and.
Isabella Rossellini
My father is a film director, Roberto Rossellini. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
What was it like growing up?
Isabella Rossellini
Did you. Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
It's amazing. But did you grow up in a lifestyle of them being famous and you being chased around?
Isabella Rossellini
Well, a little bit. The paparazzi in Rome. Yes, we were. It was very always protective. You know, we would take buckets of water and throw it on top of the paparazzi from the window to wet them and ruin their cameras, of course. And mama was saying, don't do that. But I couldn't really gauge how famous she was. Sometimes I. Sometimes I went to school, and I would say to my girlfriend at school, but is she as famous as Greta Garbo? What about Joan Crawford? Like, if I needed a thermometer, I couldn't tell because mama is Mama, you know? So I was. Then, later on in my life, my daughter. Unfortunately, both my parents were dead when I became a mother, so my children never met their grandparents. But my little girl one day said, I want to see my grandmother. I hear she's an actress. I said, well, I said, let me turn on the tv. We'll find her. And we did. It was Anastasia. And as I did that, I said, I don't think too many people can do that.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, that's a pretty interesting. Mom is famous. Yeah. Casablanca, Whatever you do. Yeah. Can we talk about Conclave? Yes. Congratulations. You're getting rave reviews.
Isabella Rossellini
Yes, we are getting it.
Jimmy Fallon
We're very good. You are. But it's great cast. You. Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow. John Lithgow.
Isabella Rossellini
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
It's about the.
Isabella Rossellini
And Ralph Vines is.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm going to bury the lead. Ray Fies, of course. Amazing.
Isabella Rossellini
Amazing.
Jimmy Fallon
It's about choosing the next Pope.
Tariq Trotter
Yes.
Isabella Rossellini
The Conclave is. The name is when you choose the next Pope. And so there is all these infights. And, you know, the Catholic Church is very a patriarchal society. So the decisions are made by men. And the pope and the cardinal are only men. And I play the nun. I don't say anything, but I am very present and I have a lot of authority.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Isabella Rossellini
Because I went to nun school. You went to school. You went to religion.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. A Catholic church. Absolutely. You know, there were going to be a priest.
Isabella Rossellini
You were going to be a priest.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I thought about it.
Isabella Rossellini
You took a big detour.
Jimmy Fallon
A little bit. Yeah. Yeah. But it's. Yeah, but it's so powerful in the film. When you speak.
Isabella Rossellini
When I speak. Oh, it's a bomb.
Jimmy Fallon
It is.
Isabella Rossellini
I say my new this fantastic line. I say, I know my role is to be invisible. Nevertheless, God has given me eyes and ears and boom, I denounce and say the truth. And it's like a bomb.
Jimmy Fallon
Oo now Isabella Rossellini Conclave.
Isabella Rossellini
No. Look at the way I'm dressed.
Tariq Trotter
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
That is perfect outfit for this film. You're going to be telling me the Cardinal Isabella Rossellini Conclave is in theaters and on digital now. We'll be right back with more Tonight Show.
