We're going to have to have a sleepover here till New Year's. That's going to be fun. There's literally tens of thousands of people outside to see the tree. It's crazy out there. After the show, I'm going to hang out in the middle of Times Square just to relax for a little bit. I got to say, Rockefeller center during the holidays is the best because there's two things that bring an instant smile to everyone's face. Seeing the tree lit up and watching ice skaters fall on the rink. I mean, those are the two things. It's the best. I really do love when the Christmas tree is here because for six weeks instead of weed, the city smells like pine. Sorry, pine scented weed. And that's what I like. I saw that this year's tree is 74ft tall, 43ft wide and weighs 11 tons. Today, its friends tried politely suggesting that it start taking tree. Govee and I, that was tonight's tree lighting was a special two hour TV special that's right between the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the tree lighting is basically lip sync week on NBC. One of the reasons we've been able to be married so long is Coco knows already. Things I won't do.

Yeah. Let's talk about the new album with your band. There's nothing more else to say there. Let's talk about your new album with Body Count. It is called Merciless. It's getting rave reviews. Congratulations on this. What's a big deal?

We're getting the best reviews I think I've ever got on any record. And I'm like, what's going on? You know, and we're just happy about it. And, you know, we went on tour in Europe. I think, you know, the last album was good. Carnivore is the one we won. We won best medal performance.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, you won the Grammy.

[Tariq Trotter]

And then Covid hit and we could never perform anything from it. So the label calls me and go, make another record. I'm like, make another record. Are you? You don't understand. When you make a record, it's like you shot your wad. It's over. You did everything. Now make. Right, it's over. Yeah, because usually you make a record, you might make 20 records for 12. You've thrown away eight records and the label says, make another record. You can't use those eight you got rid of. You gotta start from scratch.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. It takes a lot of time, attention, love.

They don't think that. They think you just sit on the toilet and crap one out. They just like, you know. So I start working on Merciless. I'm looking at horror movies back to back during COVID I'm looking at all this madness, all this politics stuff, and I just start writing and writing. And then I just said, you know what? Who knows if this is my last album? I'm gonna get everything off my chest. And it came out good and people are loving it.

Congratulations again. You and the band perform your song Comfortably Numb, which is a classic Pink Floyd song. And you got a collab with David Gilmore. Pink Floyd said yes to you. They don't say yes to anyone.

Not only David Gilmore, but David Gilmore and Roger Waters, who haven't agreed on anything in 20 years.

How did this come about? Are you kidding me? I'm freaking out. I cannot wait for you to play this.

Well, rappers always listen to music for tracks they could rap over, break beats, things like that. And I always liked the baseline, the Comfortably Numb. I wanted to rap on it. Then I said, well, let's just do it with Body Count, right? So I do it. I write the lyrics to it, we lay it out, and then I just don't think about the politics. So they go, okay, you gotta send this to Pink Floyd to get it approved. And everybody's like, that's not gonna happen. So we send it to the publishers, and they said, no. Pink Floyd doesn't allow samples or covers. So I was dead in the water. I was ready to trash the song. And then my manager somehow got to David Gilmore's manager, and David heard the record and was blown away. Just by the lyrics. The lyrics. Because it's his music, but it was the lyrics. He said, I totally approve it. So then they go, okay, we gotta get Roger Waters now. I don't know what's going on with them. I don't know. I mean, I don't know. So Roger Waters listens to it, and he said, well, who's singing? And he said, I see. He approved it. So now you got two people on opposite sides that approved the song, which made me feel really good. Cause that means that the song is honest and real.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yes.

And then Gilmore says, I wanna play on it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

This is insane. Like, he doesn't do this, right? Legendary. One of the best guitarists on earth.

Yeah. So he plays on it, then he says, what's up with the video? So we send a crew over there in London. We said, well, we can shoot them. Where do we need to shoot? They said, well, Dave has five studios.

I'm so excited that you're here. I have so many things I want to get into. First thing that comes to mind is death becomes her. Your film that you made is having a resurgence. This is you in the film. Here it is now on Broadway. It's a Broadway musical.

It's a Broadway musical. It just opened. I haven't seen it yet because I was mostly in France. I just came for four days for Thanksgiving. But as soon as I come back, because I have to go back. As soon as I come back, that's the first thing I want to do.

[Jimmy Fallon]

But did they ask you to do something special?

[Isabella Rossellini]

Yes, sir. They asked me to do the voice. You know, the voice that comes and says, turn off your phone and the emergency exit is. And I said, but do people recognize me? And they say, oh, some will, because you have such a different voice. I said, really?

[Jimmy Fallon]

What do you.

[Isabella Rossellini]

They say an accent. Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay. That's right.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It sounds so good. Are people recognizing you from your.

[Isabella Rossellini]

Well, I asked. Some people did recognize me because they stopped me in the street and said, we went to see death become sir and we heard your voice, and I was surprised it wasn't my family. So some people recognize it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. Do you get quoted all the time? Because obviously you crushed it in friends with Ross and then also 30 Rock. Oh, my. Do they?

[Isabella Rossellini]

Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I mean, you're so great on both. Do they yell those quotes?

[Isabella Rossellini]

They do. People sometimes when I'm in the street and they recognize me, they don't call My name. But they throw me one of my quote from the film, and I've forgotten it, you know, because I might have done it 30 years ago.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Of course.

[Isabella Rossellini]

And one of them was a curse. Don't you f. Look at me. Somebody screamed at me that in the street. So I start running.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I thought, it's New York City. Of course, you're right. Get out of there. Yeah.

[Isabella Rossellini]

And the person kept on running after me. Don't you f me. Don't you. And then he said, I. I love Blue Velvet is my favorite film.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Ah, God, thank goodness. Nice to meet you. Oh, my God. Yes. But you grew up with famous parents. Yes. Your mother, legendary Ingram Ingrid Bergman, and.

[Isabella Rossellini]

My father is a film director, Roberto Rossellini. Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

What was it like growing up?

[Isabella Rossellini]

Did you. Thank you.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It's amazing. But did you grow up in a lifestyle of them being famous and you being chased around?

[Isabella Rossellini]

Well, a little bit. The paparazzi in Rome. Yes, we were. It was very always protective. You know, we would take buckets of water and throw it on top of the paparazzi from the window to wet them and ruin their cameras, of course. And mama was saying, don't do that. But I couldn't really gauge how famous she was. Sometimes I. Sometimes I went to school, and I would say to my girlfriend at school, but is she as famous as Greta Garbo? What about Joan Crawford? Like, if I needed a thermometer, I couldn't tell because mama is Mama, you know? So I was. Then, later on in my life, my daughter. Unfortunately, both my parents were dead when I became a mother, so my children never met their grandparents. But my little girl one day said, I want to see my grandmother. I hear she's an actress. I said, well, I said, let me turn on the tv. We'll find her. And we did. It was Anastasia. And as I did that, I said, I don't think too many people can do that.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, that's a pretty interesting. Mom is famous. Yeah. Casablanca, Whatever you do. Yeah. Can we talk about Conclave? Yes. Congratulations. You're getting rave reviews.

[Isabella Rossellini]

Yes, we are getting it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

We're very good. You are. But it's great cast. You. Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow. John Lithgow.

[Isabella Rossellini]

Yes.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yes.

The Conclave is. The name is when you choose the next Pope. And so there is all these infights. And, you know, the Catholic Church is very a patriarchal society. So the decisions are made by men. And the pope and the cardinal are only men. And I play the nun. I don't say anything, but I am very present and I have a lot of authority.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Isabella Rossellini]

Because I went to nun school. You went to school. You went to religion.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yes. A Catholic church. Absolutely. You know, there were going to be a priest.

[Isabella Rossellini]

You were going to be a priest.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, I thought about it.

[Isabella Rossellini]

You took a big detour.

[Jimmy Fallon]

A little bit. Yeah. Yeah. But it's. Yeah, but it's so powerful in the film. When you speak.

[Isabella Rossellini]

When I speak. Oh, it's a bomb.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It is.

[Isabella Rossellini]

I say my new this fantastic line. I say, I know my role is to be invisible. Nevertheless, God has given me eyes and ears and boom, I denounce and say the truth. And it's like a bomb.
