I had somewhat of a lie, and it was mostly screaming while the corn monster was, like, dragging me into the ground. And then when I saw the movie, they looped my scream.

It wasn't even your scream. Let's talk about the Old Guard two. You were here when Old Guard First One came out? It was around five years ago.

[Charlize Theron]

Yeah, I think so.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And it crushed. It went on to be one of Netflix's biggest movies in the history of Netflix. Crushed it. It was great.

[Charlize Theron]

Now. Now you added Uma Thurman into the mix. Ooh. That's what I'm talking about.

[Charlize Theron]

We're cooking with gas.

Yeah. What's it like getting her on board?

[Charlize Theron]

First of all, I think the world of her. I think as an actor, she just. She's incredible. And for me of my generation, she was really the first woman who did, you know, kill Bill, to me was, like, setting the bar. Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Amazing.

[Charlize Theron]

Yeah. So she's always been in the back of my mind because people have said to me, like, you and Uma should do a movie. Like, you. Like, Kill Bill in Furiosa needs to, like, have a fight sequence. So it was like, it was always there. And then when we were developing the script, the character was originally very different. And then we just. Like. I was like. Like, I should do this with Uma. Like, let's see if we can get Uma. So then it's a very fine line of like, okay, I'm, like, writing the text. I'm like, I don't want to sound creepy. I don't want to sound too fanny.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, my God.

[Charlize Theron]

Like, how do I, like, get her to, like, take me seriously? Yeah. Like, what do I say?

[Jimmy Fallon]

So I. I think she was afraid to do another movie after Kill Bill. She's like, I kind of did it. I don't want to do another action.

[Charlize Theron]

I didn't even know it was that hard. So I just. I took about three days just editing and, like, rewriting it and, like.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Charlize Theron]

And then she. We started communicating, and she was. She's absolutely lovely. And she's so good in the movies.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, so good. So are you. How do we describe Olgar 2 to anyone? Well, you're not immortal anymore.

[Charlize Theron]

I'm not. Yeah. So story about an immortal team, but I am not.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Charlize Theron]

Yeah. So in. In the first movie, my character Andy is somewhat. She's lost her purpose and she's lost her faith in humanity. And at the end of that film, she kind of finds it again. So in this film, we kind of meet her and she's like, you know, she's at her pinnacle of, like, joy with her team, and they have a purpose, and they're fighting for the good of the world and humanity. And then we start dreaming about another immortal who might not be doing good things.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You just finished filming the fifth and final season of the Boys. Man, I love that show. That is unbelievable. At his next level. And we've heard that a bit of it of this season will maybe have a little bit of a Supernatural reunion.

[Jensen Ackles]

Yes.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Jared Padalecki.

[Jensen Ackles]

So Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural, is also the writer, showrunner of the Boys. So he, you know, when he likes to work with somebody, he likes to continue working with them. And I was the benefactor of that, obviously. But then he thought, oh, what a great idea. Let's just bring the cast back together, splash the ratings a little bit. Not that it needs it, but tune in.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It could happen any episode, but it could.

[Jensen Ackles]

It was funny because there was a little, like, concern that, you know, we're gonna get Jared and Misha and Jensen together and it's gonna Be a little wacky. Cause 15 years together, we got a little off.

[Jimmy Fallon]

History.

[Jensen Ackles]

Yeah, there's a lot of history. But it was also a house that we built, and we were able to destroy it the way we wanted to.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, exactly.

[Jensen Ackles]

And so I had to. I had to kind of remind them. I was like, hey, guys, this isn't our house. Okay?

[Jimmy Fallon]

You gotta behave.

[Jensen Ackles]

You gotta behave. You gotta. Jared, you've gotta flush the toilet. You've gotta flush the toilet.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Gotta flush the tea.

[Jensen Ackles]

No, but it was a really good time. I can't wait.

But you still have, like, a Supernatural Con? What is the thing?

[Jensen Ackles]

Yeah, well, we do like these comic Cons. We do like these fan conventions, these fan appearances, and we.

[Jimmy Fallon]

They're getting bigger and bigger.

[Jensen Ackles]

They are. And I thought that they would fizzle out, like, once the show. Show's been off for five years.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Jensen Ackles]

And they're still growing, and we're still getting asked to come to these different cities.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Is it streaming? Is that why everyone's watching Netflix?

[Jensen Ackles]

I think it's done really, really well on Netflix. A lot of people during the pandemic, I think, found it, and they've binged all 15 seasons, and now they're coming to these events, and they want to ask us questions. And it's really unique because, you know, for somebody who was behind the camera, doing film, doing television, we don't have an audience. We have a camera that does. That gives us absolutely no emotional response.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Correct.

[Jensen Ackles]

You know, it's not like sitting here. You know, when a joke lands, you know, when it doesn't.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Trust me.

[Jensen Ackles]

Right.

[Jimmy Fallon]

They almost forgot about it. And now you had to bring it up again.

[Jensen Ackles]

Listen, you brought up my old modeling photo.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Deal's a deal. Deal's a deal.

[Jensen Ackles]

But it. It. It really. It's interesting because it gives us a chance. Those are just stuck on set, and we're doing day after day, and maybe you might get a giggle from a boom operator. And that's about it. Now we get to go and we get to see these crowds of people who really enjoy what we do. And it just. It's energizing, as I'm sure you can imagine.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It's gotta feel great.

[Jensen Ackles]

It's awesome.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Any idea for maybe a Supernatural reboot?

[Jensen Ackles]

I mean, look, it's always hanging out there. I think there's a reason we did it for 15 years. We enjoyed it. We enjoyed each other. We enjoyed the story, the characters. It was hard to hang it up. But I don't know that we ever hang it up in Supernatural. So.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. Good.

[Jensen Ackles]

We'll stick with it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Let's talk about your new series. Yeah, let's talk about Countdown. I love this. This is a thriller with all sorts of action. How do we set this up?

[Jensen Ackles]

It's a bit of a throw. So Derek Hass, who created the show, it was a big fan of like the 80s action movies. And then, you know, the 80s and 90s, you know, you're talking about your diehards and your Lethal Weapons.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yes.

[Jensen Ackles]

And talking about the A team. And so he wanted to kind of like take a little bit of that inspiration and make something today. And so he, he wrote this action packed thrill ride with humor, with heart, and it's all packed into this lively package. And I was really excited because as a child of growing up in the 80s and 90s, those were the Bruce Willis and the Kurt Russells.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Say that one line.

[Jensen Ackles]

I mean, come on. You line them up.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And so that's how you're great at the action scenes. Are you so good at, like, used to it now after all these years?

[Jensen Ackles]

I'm, I'm sore, Jimmy. I'm sore.

[Jimmy Fallon]

No, don't, don't let, don't let us believe that.

[Jensen Ackles]

No, I, I love it. I mean, I, I sometimes I joke. I'm like, give me a day where I have to like get run over by a car, thrown through a wall, over a day where I have to cry. That's, that's good. That's the hard part.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Do you have to have to re record and do adr like online? So like where you have a fight scene where like we didn't get enough grunts out of you? Jensen, do you mind? Yeah, because do you mind getting, pretending you get hit in the face in this microphone?

[Jensen Ackles]

Yeah. So I mean, when I started doing that, you know, it's called ADR or looping. I think Shirley's just alluded to that. So when you do this additional recording and you have to kind of match it to the, you know, to the action on camera, I thought, okay, well I need to like do the punches and do the moves in order to recreate the sounds.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You're not on camera at this point.

[Jensen Ackles]

I'm not on camera. So I quickly realized, why am I sweating in a recording studio?

[Jimmy Fallon]

Because I'm doing this.

[Jensen Ackles]

And I quickly early figured out that I did not need to do that. And I could literally sit down and just go.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, I love. That's my favorite one.

[Jensen Ackles]

That's right there. That's a solar plex. That's it.

[Jimmy Fallon]
