Here he is.
Jimmy Fallon
Gimmicky Bella Sa appreciate it. Thank you very much. Enjoy yourselves. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. Oh, yeah. Well, guys, the US Is dealing with a historic heat wave right now. Are you feeling that today? Temperatures across the east coast nearing 100 degrees here. Oh, my God. It's not wearing a suit that makes me feel sticky. It's the two layers of Spanx underneath it. That's what's hard to take off. Seriously, it is brutal out there. You know it's bad when the heat map looks like Elmo's colonoscopy, you know, Tickle me. Yeah. Millions of Americans are getting hit by record heat with temperatures reaching triple digits. I saw some products that are releasing special ads reminding people to stay safe. For example, here, check out this first one I saw. Gatorade. Stay hydrated and together we'll beat the heat. That's nice. Here's another one I saw. Pappertone. Don't play with fire. Play it safe and protect yourself. That's so cool. That's so nice. Yeah. Finally. Here's one more Toms of May Natural deodorant. Don't even think about it. Wow. Don't even think about it now. No, no, no. Maybe in the wintertime, maybe not when it's warm. No, no, no. Guys, the big news from the weekend is that on Saturday night, President Trump was ordered US Military strikes on nuclear sites in Iran. Remember when we were scared he was going to invade Canada? I miss that. I miss that. It's crazy to me that the President launched an attack on Iran, his own parade and a cell phone in the same week. Isn't that wild? Trump claimed Iran's nuclear program was totally obliterated. And as evidence, he held up a satellite photo showing Iran's nuclear facility is now a spirit Halloween. Yet the strike came as a total surprise. Apparently, Trump had all the planes fly out of the abandoned Newark airport. The strike on Iran was called Operation Midnight Hammer. Operation Midnight Hammer? Yeah, it was named after Trump's favorite Stormy Daniels movie. Who doesn't? I didn't get the. No, no, I didn't get.
Jensen Ackles
Touch this.
Jimmy Fallon
Yep. The strike on Iran was called Operation Midnight Hammer. It honestly sounds like a little inappropriate, but it wasn't the only name idea that Trump had Listen to what else he suggested here. So I was thinking we call it Operation Midnight Hammer. It sounds a bit risque, sir.
Jensen Ackles
Any other ideas?
Jimmy Fallon
Operation Nighttime Bang? No, sir. Operation Overnight Climax? No, sir. Operation Dead of Night Ding a Ling? No, sir. Operation Premature Missile Launch? No, sir. Operation Joint Force Joystick? No, sir. Operation Hit it and Quit It? No, sir. No, sir. Operation Smasher Pass? No, sir. Operation Netflix and Drill? No, sir. Operation Tanky Hanky Panky?
Jensen Ackles
No, sir.
Jimmy Fallon
Operation Hide the Rocket? No, sir. Operation Bing Bong Strong Dong. No, sir. Operation Sex. Let's just go with Midnight Hammer. Yay. Oh, my goodness. Oh, wow. How'd you get that tape? Wow. Well, following the operation, Trump addressed the nation from the White House, and he gave a special shout out. Take a look at this. I want to just thank everybody and in particular, God. I want to just say, we love you, God. Even God was like Jesus. Trump hasn't thanked God since he once counted 11 McNuggets in his 10 piece. Oh, my. Thank you, God. You visit me in mysterious ways. You do. Trump gave his big address about Iran on Saturday using a teleprompter. And it's interesting to see what Trump's staff puts on the teleprompter to get him to say what they want. Watch this. The US Military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear facilities in the Iranian regime, Fordeau, Natanz, and Isfahan. I also want to congratulate the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Raisin Cain. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. And I want to just thank everybody and in particular, God. I want to just say, we love you, God. Yeah, that's very. That's how they get him to say it. Wow. Meanwhile, Iran is now threatening to retaliate by closing a major waterway for oil exports called the Strait of Hormuz. Even worse, Trump thinks Hormuz is a brand of chili. Yep. Closing the Strait would block a critical artery for oil and gas shipments around the world. Coincidentally, blocked artery. Oil and gas also sum up Trump's last physical. Trump also said he's prepared to use America's oil reserves located on Don Jr, Pete Hegseth, and Gavin Newsom. Let me take that one. I'll take that one. You gonna take that hit? I'm gonna take that hit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can we see the picture again? Is it too late? The oil reserve. He's gonna take the oil reserve. Yeah, it works. In theory, not in practice, but in theory. Grease is the word. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't think it would do well. Right, but you didn't think it would be good. I didn't think it'd be that bad. Yeah, I didn't see that one. You thought it would do something. Something. I thought. The crowd left for a second, the lights on. I wish we played a joke on me. Yeah, well, this is all going on. Also, Trump just announced that he's close to striking a deal with Harvard University. Everyone was like, not really the deal we're worried about, but thank you. Well, switching Gears, more than 16 billion passwords for Google, Apple, Facebook, and other platforms have been leaked in one of the largest hacks of all time. It's pretty scary. Now everyone knows your Facebook password but you. What is it again? Pass Route 1, 2, 3. People are talking about this. Tomorrow. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez kick off their three day wedding celebration in Venice. You know you're powerful when you have your destination wedding on a Tuesday and people still show up. Yeah. You know Jeff Bezos is super rich because the address on the wedding invitation just says Venice. We have a great show. Charlize Theron is here. Jensen Ackles is joining us. Stick around. We'll be right back with Battle of the Instant Songwriters. Come on back. Welcome back, everybody. Here at the Tonight show, we love songs, especially we love songs written by our audience members. In under an hour. It is time for battle of the instant Songwriters. Here we go. Welcome to Battle of the Instant Songwriters. Before the show, we went through our audience and picked out two people who said that they were musicians. We gave them each a made up song title and gave them an hour to write an original song based on that title. Here's a shot of them practicing backstage a minute ago. Let's see what they came up with and meet them right now. Come on over, guys. Welcome. Nice to see you. Pleasure. Hey, man, welcome. Welcome to the show. Let's start with contestant number one. What is your name and where are you from? I'm Rebecca McCartney. I'm a native New Yorker. Yeah, native New Yorker. Rebecca. Thank you for being here. Rebecca, what is the title of the song you were given?
Charlize Theron
Squid game.
Jimmy Fallon
Barbecue. Squid game. Barbecue, of course. That must be inspired by the number one show on Netflix. Squid Game. And the number one activity in Summers, which are BBQs or barbecues. What instrument will you be playing today?
Charlize Theron
I'll be playing keys.
Jimmy Fallon
Ooh, play those keys. I love it. Go and get ready and get set. Get in the headspace get over to the stage. We'll be blown away. It's very exciting. And now, ladies and gentlemen, here to perform the premiere of the soon to be classic squid game barbecue, it's Rebecca. Summer in the city. Sweat was getting on my nerves through a barbecue and the high steaks were served. Jesse spilled the ketchup and it looks like blood. Now I'm in a red jumpsuit with a mask on. Red light, green light, friend group food fight. I win. You're gonna lose. This is my squid game bar. What side are you gonna choose at my squeaking barbecue? Yo. Come on, Navoi. Come on. Fantastic. My God. Thank you very much, Rebecca. Come on. Native New Yorker. That was incredible. Squid game barbecue. Oh, my goodness. All right, let's meet contestant number two. What is your name and where are you from? My name is Nigel Richards. Hey, Nigel. I'm from Providence, Rhode Island. Hey, Providence, Rhode Island. Nigel, tell everyone what your song title is. My song title today is traded my LeBron for a Labubu. Wow, that's interesting. Yeah, that makes sense. This weekend, Tom Brady bought a $250,000 LeBron James rookie card. And also, the hottest toy right now is the Le booboo doll. So what instrument will you be playing? The guitar. The guitar I have. I love the guitar. Yeah. This is fantastic. All right, get over the stage and get ready to rock out. Amazing. I love it. Thank you, Nigel. Well done. All right, bud. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the world premiere of traded my LeBron for a LE Boo Boo by Nigel. Needed to give up my trading card My passion for something new so I looked around Search high and low for something like you First I saw you on TikTok then I saw you on a Birkenstock Then you cast your spell and in love I fell I traded my LeBron for a love boo Boo Wait and see that A monster. And now I'm meant to BE I'm sorry, LeBron. The song is where we end. I found my new friend, My perfect monster. Le Boo boo. I'm sorry, LeBron. Oh, my goodness. Well done, honey. Le Boo Boo. All right, it is time to see who won. So we're gonna let our great audience decide the winner. That's right. Unbelievable. Is it our first contestant? Contestant number one? Is it our second contestant? Contestant number two? We have a winner. It's contestant number two. Congratulations. You will be going home with an I love Music sweatshirt. That's all for you. Congratulations. You earned it. Oh. You'll also be going home with the Tonight show notebook. For writing more songs and a check for $1,000. Write more stuff, but no one goes home empty handed. Our other contestant will also be getting an I love music sweatshirt, a tonight show notebook, and a check for $1,000. You are Fant. Thank you so much. Give it up for your two new instant songwriters. Stick around. We'll be right back with charlize theron, everybody. Our first guest is an Oscar winning actress who stars in the new movie The Old Guard 2, which begins streaming on Netflix July 2nd. Please welcome Charlize theron. Charlize, feel the love right there. We love you. Welcome back to the show.
Charlize Theron
That is really, sincerely, exactly what I need right now.
Jimmy Fallon
Thanks for coming back to the show. I want to talk to you about so many things. First off, you are now a mom to a teenager. How did that happen?
Charlize Theron
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
How cool is that? Congratulations.
Charlize Theron
I ask myself that every morning.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. What do I have to look forward to?
Charlize Theron
Yeah. I have a preteen and a teen.
Jimmy Fallon
Yep, exactly. Thirteen, right?
Charlize Theron
Yes, thirteen and a half.
Jimmy Fallon
Ooh, technically, I love the Ooh. Do they immediately start acting like a teenager?
Charlize Theron
No, I feel like they do. Like, I feel like my oldest, it was more subtle. But my 10 year old, it was like she went from one day just like, hanging on to me, like, mama. And then the next morning, I walked into her room and I was like, good. And she was like, ma, why are you here?
Jimmy Fallon
Really? Yeah.
Charlize Theron
And I was like, I'm waking you up for school.
Jimmy Fallon
I was like, be down soon. Ma, what happened to you overnight?
Charlize Theron
You just turned into a monster. And no matter what I say, it's like, I call her. I'm like, why are you dancing? She's like.
Jimmy Fallon
Is it because her?
Charlize Theron
Because I think just everything's starting.
Jimmy Fallon
It's all starting. It's all happening.
Charlize Theron
It's like it's just too much. Like, everything is just. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm trying keeping up. Mine is a little bit smaller. Mine's 11 and 10.
Charlize Theron
Oh. Get ready.
Jimmy Fallon
Really? Do they teach you new words or phrases? Oh.
Charlize Theron
Oh, my. Does this happen to you? I mean, it's insane.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm learning a couple of things. Yeah, the boo boo doll was big. I didn't know what that was.
Charlize Theron
Yeah, I don't even know if they use that anymore.
Jimmy Fallon
No, not yet.
Charlize Theron
That's the problem. You learn it and then they don't use it anymore. Like Riz. They don't use anymore.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, no. Riz is.
Charlize Theron
Riz is done now. You can't say Riz.
Jimmy Fallon
Mom.
Charlize Theron
Don't say that. I'm like, ok, you just said it yesterday.
Jimmy Fallon
I think they can say it.
Charlize Theron
My favorite was the other day. She said. This is what I thought she said. She said. I thought she said you're eating your face or something. And I was like, what? She's like, that means your face looks good, but it's really.
Jimmy Fallon
Wait, you mean like your face ate.
Charlize Theron
Or you face is eating? Yes. And your makeup is eating down? Face is eating and your makeup is. And it's all good?
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. That's great.
Charlize Theron
It's all good.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, you want your face to be eating. Yeah.
Charlize Theron
And you want your makeup eating down.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. I did not know that. Yeah. How about. Do you bring them to concerts? Do you?
Charlize Theron
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I saw that you and Dua Lipa were hanging out. That's what I'm talking about. I love Dua Lipa.
Charlize Theron
She's so cool.
Jimmy Fallon
She is the coolest.
Charlize Theron
Yeah, she's really cool.
Jimmy Fallon
This is your daughter doing a cartwheel, by the way, backstage at Dua Lipa. I had to show that picture as well. Now who you see?
Charlize Theron
Yeah, she's upside down and we're making eye contact and she's like, yeah, that's what I'm getting.
Jimmy Fallon
Who brought who to see Dua Lipa?
Charlize Theron
I was shooting a film out in Australia. They came out for spring break and she just happened to be there. And it's something that we. We all like to do.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't know.
Charlize Theron
Like. Yeah, it's like you're trying to.
Jimmy Fallon
Our house loves Dua Lipa. Yeah.
Charlize Theron
Yeah. You're trying to find things that you can mutually. Right?
Jimmy Fallon
Like try to sneak in some older songs and music.
Charlize Theron
Oh, my God, it's impossible. In the morning, when I drive them to school, they do this thing where they're like. They're DJing and they hand the phone over and over, like, my turn, my turn. And it's fine. It's really fun. But every once in a while, yeah, I'd be like, this band is called Radiohead. And they'd be like, why is nobody singing? I'm like, it's called instrumental. And they're just like, I didn't win this. Move on, please.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah.
Charlize Theron
Then, you know, Tom York starts singing it. They're like, that's not singing. I'm like, this is like the greatest band ever, ever, ever.
Jimmy Fallon
I also want to tell you, you were great in the studio.
Charlize Theron
Oh, thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
If you haven't seen this, that's one of the best shows on television. Everyone was great, but you crushed it. You're in a scene with Martin Scorsese?
Charlize Theron
Yeah. What scene?
Jimmy Fallon
What was that like, acting with. Normally, he directs people.
Charlize Theron
Is that like. Yeah. I didn't believe Seth at first. I was like, who's playing Martin? And he's like, no, Martin is coming. I was like, what? You got Martin Scorsese to, like, play himself? And then I met him on the day.
Jimmy Fallon
I think Rogan will do that, right?
Charlize Theron
Yeah. I don't know what. He must have something on him.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Charlize Theron
But he's first of all, the sweet. Have you met him? He's so sweet.
Jimmy Fallon
He's unbelievable.
Charlize Theron
Oh, my God. He's so, like, thoughtful. And I thought we were.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, you're sticking up for him in this episode.
Charlize Theron
Yeah. And I didn't know what the show was because it was the first episode. So I was like, martin Scorsese's not gonna act with me. So when we're in the back, I'm just standing there waiting for my, like to walk up and do my line. And Martin is, like, crying. He's like. Not, like. He's, like, in it. He's, like, very upset.
Jimmy Fallon
He was offended by Seth saying that he's. And Ike. Yeah. They insulted Martin Scorsese's.
Charlize Theron
Yeah. They really.
Jimmy Fallon
Career in his life. It's hilarious. It's so funny.
Charlize Theron
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And you have one line, have you?
Charlize Theron
Yeah, I'm only good with one line. That's all. That's all I get trusted with.
Jimmy Fallon
When was the last time you only had one line in a production ever?
Charlize Theron
My first movie, Children of the Corn three. I.
Jimmy Fallon
Sit down. Please sit down. Please sit down. Unbelievable. Standing ovation.
Charlize Theron
I had somewhat of a lie, and it was mostly screaming while the corn monster was, like, dragging me into the ground. And then when I saw the movie, they looped my scream.
Jimmy Fallon
It wasn't even your scream. Let's talk about the Old Guard two. You were here when Old Guard First One came out? It was around five years ago.
Charlize Theron
Yeah, I think so.
Jimmy Fallon
And it crushed. It went on to be one of Netflix's biggest movies in the history of Netflix. Crushed it. It was great.
Charlize Theron
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Now. Now you added Uma Thurman into the mix. Ooh. That's what I'm talking about.
Charlize Theron
We're cooking with gas.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. What's it like getting her on board?
Charlize Theron
First of all, I think the world of her. I think as an actor, she just. She's incredible. And for me of my generation, she was really the first woman who did, you know, kill Bill, to me was, like, setting the bar. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Amazing.
Charlize Theron
Yeah. So she's always been in the back of my mind because people have said to me, like, you and Uma should do a movie. Like, you. Like, Kill Bill in Furiosa needs to, like, have a fight sequence. So it was like, it was always there. And then when we were developing the script, the character was originally very different. And then we just. Like. I was like. Like, I should do this with Uma. Like, let's see if we can get Uma. So then it's a very fine line of like, okay, I'm, like, writing the text. I'm like, I don't want to sound creepy. I don't want to sound too fanny.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my God.
Charlize Theron
Like, how do I, like, get her to, like, take me seriously? Yeah. Like, what do I say?
Jimmy Fallon
So I. I think she was afraid to do another movie after Kill Bill. She's like, I kind of did it. I don't want to do another action.
Charlize Theron
I didn't even know it was that hard. So I just. I took about three days just editing and, like, rewriting it and, like.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Charlize Theron
And then she. We started communicating, and she was. She's absolutely lovely. And she's so good in the movies.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, so good. So are you. How do we describe Olgar 2 to anyone? Well, you're not immortal anymore.
Charlize Theron
I'm not. Yeah. So story about an immortal team, but I am not.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Charlize Theron
Yeah. So in. In the first movie, my character Andy is somewhat. She's lost her purpose and she's lost her faith in humanity. And at the end of that film, she kind of finds it again. So in this film, we kind of meet her and she's like, you know, she's at her pinnacle of, like, joy with her team, and they have a purpose, and they're fighting for the good of the world and humanity. And then we start dreaming about another immortal who might not be doing good things.
Jimmy Fallon
Ooh, yeah. Of course. Charlize Theron, Everybody. The Old Guard 2 begins streaming on Netflix July 2nd. We'll be right back with more tonight shows. Stick around, everybody. You know our next guest from Supernatural and the Boys now. He stars in the new series Countdown, which premieres on Prime Video June 25th. Everyone, please welcome Jansen Acko. You're a stud. You're a stud. Welcome to the show. Thank you for being here. I actually was very lucky to meet your beautiful daughter backstage.
Jensen Ackles
Jj, Isn't she the best?
Jimmy Fallon
She's so cute. How old is she?
Jensen Ackles
12.
Jimmy Fallon
12. 12. Is she starting to understand what dad does for a living or no?
Jensen Ackles
She does, but I think it's recent. I mean, she always knew That I went off and I did things that she wasn't allowed to watch and.
Jimmy Fallon
Good dad. Good dad.
Jensen Ackles
Good dad. Yeah. Not age appropriate, we like to say. But now she. I think she's creeped into that age to where I think she might be able to watch Countdown. I might have to watch it with her, but she's excited about it.
Jimmy Fallon
I can't wait to talk about Countdown. It's fantastic. It's so rad. But before that, I wanted to talk to you about something, and that is your modeling career. Oh, this is something. I took a deep dive into this and really did my research, and I found a photo shoot.
Jensen Ackles
Jimmy, I don't have a modeling career.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm about to show you. You did? I'm talking about a J.C. penney catalog around. I'm trying to say it's in the 90s somehow. Does this guy ring a bell? Jensen boy. Yeah, dude. Yeah.
Jensen Ackles
You can save 25% and get a free Walkman.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Do you get a free Walkman? No. That was not part of the deal. Look at this one, my favorite one.
Jensen Ackles
Oh, there's more.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah.
Jensen Ackles
Oh, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Zoom in. What'd you say to me? Yeah, look at that kid. Yeah. Yeah. You're, like, being sassy. Like, what'd you say to me, old man?
Jensen Ackles
I wore that last weekend.
Jimmy Fallon
I want this outfit next time you. Come on. We should both wear these.
Jensen Ackles
Don't tempt me.
Jimmy Fallon
Look at this guy.
Jensen Ackles
Hey, hey, hey.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a. That's a total model move.
Jensen Ackles
See, this might have been right around the time that Joey was going, how you doing?
Jimmy Fallon
And I think, yeah, you were doing the same thing.
Jensen Ackles
I think that's what happened.
Jimmy Fallon
How you doing?
Jensen Ackles
How was my how you doing Pose?
Jimmy Fallon
You just finished filming the fifth and final season of the Boys. Man, I love that show. That is unbelievable. At his next level. And we've heard that a bit of it of this season will maybe have a little bit of a Supernatural reunion.
Jensen Ackles
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Jared Padalecki.
Jensen Ackles
So Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural, is also the writer, showrunner of the Boys. So he, you know, when he likes to work with somebody, he likes to continue working with them. And I was the benefactor of that, obviously. But then he thought, oh, what a great idea. Let's just bring the cast back together, splash the ratings a little bit. Not that it needs it, but tune in.
Jimmy Fallon
It could happen any episode, but it could.
Jensen Ackles
It was funny because there was a little, like, concern that, you know, we're gonna get Jared and Misha and Jensen together and it's gonna Be a little wacky. Cause 15 years together, we got a little off.
Jimmy Fallon
History.
Jensen Ackles
Yeah, there's a lot of history. But it was also a house that we built, and we were able to destroy it the way we wanted to.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, exactly.
Jensen Ackles
And so I had to. I had to kind of remind them. I was like, hey, guys, this isn't our house. Okay?
Jimmy Fallon
You gotta behave.
Jensen Ackles
You gotta behave. You gotta. Jared, you've gotta flush the toilet. You've gotta flush the toilet.
Jimmy Fallon
Gotta flush the tea.
Jensen Ackles
No, but it was a really good time. I can't wait.
Jimmy Fallon
But you still have, like, a Supernatural Con? What is the thing?
Jensen Ackles
Yeah, well, we do like these comic Cons. We do like these fan conventions, these fan appearances, and we.
Jimmy Fallon
They're getting bigger and bigger.
Jensen Ackles
They are. And I thought that they would fizzle out, like, once the show. Show's been off for five years.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Jensen Ackles
And they're still growing, and we're still getting asked to come to these different cities.
Jimmy Fallon
Is it streaming? Is that why everyone's watching Netflix?
Jensen Ackles
I think it's done really, really well on Netflix. A lot of people during the pandemic, I think, found it, and they've binged all 15 seasons, and now they're coming to these events, and they want to ask us questions. And it's really unique because, you know, for somebody who was behind the camera, doing film, doing television, we don't have an audience. We have a camera that does. That gives us absolutely no emotional response.
Jimmy Fallon
Correct.
Jensen Ackles
You know, it's not like sitting here. You know, when a joke lands, you know, when it doesn't.
Jimmy Fallon
Trust me.
Jensen Ackles
Right.
Jimmy Fallon
They almost forgot about it. And now you had to bring it up again.
Jensen Ackles
Listen, you brought up my old modeling photo.
Jimmy Fallon
Deal's a deal. Deal's a deal.
Jensen Ackles
But it. It. It really. It's interesting because it gives us a chance. Those are just stuck on set, and we're doing day after day, and maybe you might get a giggle from a boom operator. And that's about it. Now we get to go and we get to see these crowds of people who really enjoy what we do. And it just. It's energizing, as I'm sure you can imagine.
Jimmy Fallon
It's gotta feel great.
Jensen Ackles
It's awesome.
Jimmy Fallon
Any idea for maybe a Supernatural reboot?
Jensen Ackles
I mean, look, it's always hanging out there. I think there's a reason we did it for 15 years. We enjoyed it. We enjoyed each other. We enjoyed the story, the characters. It was hard to hang it up. But I don't know that we ever hang it up in Supernatural. So.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Good.
Jensen Ackles
We'll stick with it.
Jimmy Fallon
Let's talk about your new series. Yeah, let's talk about Countdown. I love this. This is a thriller with all sorts of action. How do we set this up?
Jensen Ackles
It's a bit of a throw. So Derek Hass, who created the show, it was a big fan of like the 80s action movies. And then, you know, the 80s and 90s, you know, you're talking about your diehards and your Lethal Weapons.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Jensen Ackles
And talking about the A team. And so he wanted to kind of like take a little bit of that inspiration and make something today. And so he, he wrote this action packed thrill ride with humor, with heart, and it's all packed into this lively package. And I was really excited because as a child of growing up in the 80s and 90s, those were the Bruce Willis and the Kurt Russells.
Jimmy Fallon
Say that one line.
Jensen Ackles
I mean, come on. You line them up.
Jimmy Fallon
And so that's how you're great at the action scenes. Are you so good at, like, used to it now after all these years?
Jensen Ackles
I'm, I'm sore, Jimmy. I'm sore.
Jimmy Fallon
No, don't, don't let, don't let us believe that.
Jensen Ackles
No, I, I love it. I mean, I, I sometimes I joke. I'm like, give me a day where I have to like get run over by a car, thrown through a wall, over a day where I have to cry. That's, that's good. That's the hard part.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you have to have to re record and do adr like online? So like where you have a fight scene where like we didn't get enough grunts out of you? Jensen, do you mind? Yeah, because do you mind getting, pretending you get hit in the face in this microphone?
Jensen Ackles
Yeah. So I mean, when I started doing that, you know, it's called ADR or looping. I think Shirley's just alluded to that. So when you do this additional recording and you have to kind of match it to the, you know, to the action on camera, I thought, okay, well I need to like do the punches and do the moves in order to recreate the sounds.
Jimmy Fallon
You're not on camera at this point.
Jensen Ackles
I'm not on camera. So I quickly realized, why am I sweating in a recording studio?
Jimmy Fallon
Because I'm doing this.
Jensen Ackles
And I quickly early figured out that I did not need to do that. And I could literally sit down and just go.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, I love. That's my favorite one.
Jensen Ackles
