Michael Fassbender
Jung Jae, comedian Dustin Nickerson. And featuring the legendary boots group 270. And now, here he is. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here, you made it. Thank you for watching at home the Tonight Show. And guys, there's just eight days until Christmas, which means in seven days, you'll be asking a gas station attendant, can you gift wrap these Slim Jims and put two dad on the cart? I'll take one of those Slim Jims out. That's right. Christmas is almost here. And this year, Santa really knows who's been naughty or nice. Thanks to those drones spying in New Jersey. Yep, everyone's in the holiday spirit. President Biden has an advent calendar where each day is a different mystery pill. I thought that was. This one's Lipitor. This one's Lipitor. Meanwhile, President elect Trump is celebrating Christmas at Mar a Lago. Yep. And this was nice. Today he hung up his kids stockings. It was cute. Can we see a photo, Ivanka? Thing one and Thing two. He always forgets thing one's name. Yeah, I saw that. This year, Christmas and the start of Hanukkah are on the same day. At Mar a Lago, they have a name for when this happens. They call it Christmas. THEY LAUGH There you go. Come on. Speaking of today at Mar a Lago, Trump met with Netflix co CEO Ted Sarandos. Yep, things got off to a rough start when Trump bit his arm to see if it was cake. Trump's been very busy. By tomorrow, he'll have met with executives from Meta, Apple, Google and Amazon. When he heard that Nicolas Cage was like, meta, Apple, Google, Amazon, the clues were there all along. No, I saw it switching gears. According to a new report, this year, the most downloaded free app in America was Temu. So don't be surprised when your holiday gift is a handbag from Dolce and Banana. Some more business news. Walmart announced that some of their employees are now wearing body cameras. Yeah, it's a fun way to remind customers, hey, a lot of crazy shiz goes on down here. Of course, the Walmart greeters are so old, the cameras will be shooting up their nose the whole time. How do I turn it back on the. Say hi to the baby. Okay, well, listen to this. I read that here in New York City, some locals are complaining about how many tourists have come to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. They were like, come on. I moved to the heart of midtown for some peace and quiet. And finally, a flight had to make an unplanned landing due to the stench from 100 pigs in the cargo hold. Passengers were offered tickets home on Spirit Airlines. They said, no, thanks. This is worse. Yeah. You have a great show. Give it up for the roof, ladies and gentlemen. Oh, my goodness. Welcome to the show, everybody. I just wanted to give a quick shout out to. To Meghan Trainor. By the way, I love Meghan Trainor. She's the best. And. And she did a. She did a duet with me on my. My holiday. Look at that holiday. Yeah. Thank you. Called Wrap me Up, and the song did really well. I'm so excited. But we performed at Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden over the weekend. This is iheartradio Jingle Ball. This airs tomorrow night at 8:00 on ABC. Man, I was nervous.
Lee Jung Jae
Really?
Michael Fassbender
Yeah. It's just not my. I'm not used to it. I've done the Garden before, and it's fun, but this is like, really singing with a real pop star.
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah.
Michael Fassbender
I just felt like I don't really deserve to be there. And so I'm up there. I'm like, megan, are you sure you want me to do this? Like, she's fantastic. She's dancing and everything. I don't dance. I don't know what I'm doing. Then they gave me kind of in ears, which are like these headphones that shove in your ears. All you hear is your mic. So I can't hear the audience at all. Oh, I don't like that. So I'm just hearing me going like. I'm like, man, I'm out of breath. I barely walked up the steps. This is terrible. Yeah. I don't want to go to this concert. It's just me breathing for five minutes. Yeah. Anyway, turned out great and she saved me. So thank you again, Meghan trainor. Tomorrow night, 8:00. Iheartradio jingle ball. And I'm psyched for the album. It's super fun and it did really well. I'm very proud of it. And thank you, Roots, for being on the album and everyone who said yes and helped me out. But I got this letter I just wanted to read you really quick. This is kind of cool. It says, Dear Mr. Fallon, hope this letter finds you well. My name is Miguel Romero Lugo, and I have the privilege of serving as mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico. I just want to take a moment to send you my most heartfelt congratulations on your latest Christmas album here in San Juan. We're big fans of your work and I have to say that the track dedicated to Coquito really caught our attention and touched our hearts. To any Puerto Rican, Coquito is something very special and meaningful. It's not only an essential element of our traditional holiday celebrations, but indeed a veritable icon of our cultural identity. Seeing it celebrated and honored in your music was a beautiful and thoughtful gesture that honestly filled me with great pride. Aw. Is that unbelievable? And he gave me a bottle of Coquito. Oh, look at that. Thank you to the mayor. Mr. Mayor. Thank you, San Juan. We love. We love you, San Juan. We love you, Puerto Rico. We have a great show for you tonight. He stars in the new series the Agency, which is streaming now on Paramount with Showtime. Michael Fassbender is here. Oh, he's great. He's great. Also, he's the Emmy winning star of the hit Netflix show squid game. Season 2 premieres December 26th. Lee Jung Jae is joining us and we got great stand up from Dustin Nickerson, everybody. We'll be right back with more tonight, everybody. Our first guest is an Oscar nominated actor. He stars in the new series the Agency, which is streaming now on Paramount with Showtime. Please welcome Michael Fassbender. Daniel, they love you. Come on. Yeah, that's right. Take it in. Michael Fassbender, welcome back to the show. Yeah, you look sharp, bud.
Lee Jung Jae
You too, man.
Michael Fassbender
I like that watch, by the way. That's what I'm talking about. How's life going? How's everything?
Lee Jung Jae
That was Alicia. She got me that birthday present.
Michael Fassbender
Yeah, how was Alicia, by the way? She's one of our favorite guests.
Lee Jung Jae
She's great, Great. We're getting ready for Christmas and all that good stuff.
Michael Fassbender
Every time she's on, she teaches me a new Swedish game.
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah, me too.
Michael Fassbender
Me too. Me too. Yeah, yeah. But I don't even know if they're real or not sometimes. Last time she came on, we did like an Irish Christmas Eve game, she said, and we had to spin on wiffle ball bats and then run around and like try to do things and shoot targets and stuff. And you're from Ireland, You're Irish.
Lee Jung Jae
Yes.
Michael Fassbender
Yeah. Have you ever heard of this game?
Lee Jung Jae
Never heard of this.
Michael Fassbender
Okay, thank you. All right.
Lee Jung Jae
I just was wondering, and I actually asked her at the time, I was like, why is that called the Irish Christmas Game? And obviously a Swedish person went over to Ireland at Christmas and was like, well, they're all falling around the place.
Michael Fassbender
So she just knows I'll play any game she wants to play when she's on the show.
Lee Jung Jae
That's right.
Michael Fassbender
She made me play a game once where, like, there was a bottle and a pencil or.
Lee Jung Jae
Yes, you've got to get, like, the pencil into the bottle.
Michael Fassbender
Correct.
Lee Jung Jae
But it's tied around your waist and it kind of looks like you're. You're taking a poop.
Michael Fassbender
Yes, yeah, yes, it does like that. Yeah, yeah. It's a very interesting game.
Lee Jung Jae
All Swedish things are.
Michael Fassbender
Will you give her my best, please?
Lee Jung Jae
I will, I will.
Michael Fassbender
I saw that you were in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. Okay. You were there for the agency with some of your co stars and Diana Ross performed.
Lee Jung Jae
Yes.
Michael Fassbender
And that's fantastic.
Lee Jung Jae
I got very excited.
Michael Fassbender
Oh, yeah, me too. I love Diana Ross. Yeah. So Vogue wrote about this party. This party celeb dance gala in Las Vegas. Said Fassbender immediately got on his feet and showed off his impressive moves. He lifted up his hands, jive his hips back and forth, clap, and laugh with his friends. Is that a good description of your dance moves?
Lee Jung Jae
Sounds pretty right?
Michael Fassbender
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Lee Jung Jae
Kind of embarrassing.
Michael Fassbender
Yeah. You got up and you just hit back and forth and.
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And you're young, dad dancing.
Michael Fassbender
Okay. That. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And that was fantastic. That's good. We can do that. We can make that into a fun party.
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah, yeah. It's. It's funny, actually, because it is that Swedish thing as well.
Michael Fassbender
Yeah.
Lee Jung Jae
You know, I never really got the concept of abba. You know, I never really liked abba.
Michael Fassbender
Really?
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah. And then we were in Ibiza. We're actually at Formentera, and we were getting a boat from Formentera to Ibiza. And it was sort of. We had like a late lunch and we were heading back at night, and it got really stormy, like, bad. And we'd already taken our little tender boat out to the. You know, the main boat, where we were going to sort of go back to Ibiza. And that started deflating as we were heading out to the boat.
Michael Fassbender
You're kidding.
Lee Jung Jae
So we just made it back, but that thing sort of sunk and we were laughing about it. And anyway, we set off in the boat and the storm just sort of kicked up and, like, plates and everything were flying. We'd sort of lock stuff down, but we had ABBA blasting and I was sort of like hanging onto the boat and ABBA was playing, and I finally understood abba.
Michael Fassbender
It was like, we're gonna be all right. You're always safe with abba. Yeah. They're the great.
Lee Jung Jae
I was like, if we have to die tonight, this is a good soundtrack to die to.
Michael Fassbender
Oh, my God.
Lee Jung Jae
Absolutely.
Michael Fassbender
But let's talk about the agency. Cause this came on and, man, it's already a smash hit. It's been renewed for season two already. Congratulations. You're great. Of course. Great cast.
Lee Jung Jae
Thank you. Fantastic cast. Yeah.
Michael Fassbender
I was looking through your work and I saw that your career started. Your first big acting gig was Band of Brothers in the same episode I was in. Band of Brothers.
Lee Jung Jae
I know. Did you ever come to the. I used to live above a pub called Monkey Chews.
Michael Fassbender
Yes.
Lee Jung Jae
And did you ever go there when I threw some parties there.
Michael Fassbender
Yes. With the whole. With the Band of Brothers guys.
Lee Jung Jae
It was a good party. Cause I can't really remember.
Michael Fassbender
No, me neither. I remember. I remember going. I remember I had, like, one line in the whole thing. And I remember hanging out with all the guys. They've been there. I mean, they took it so seriously.
Lee Jung Jae
Oh, yeah, yeah. We did the boot camp thing with Dale Dye. With Dale Dye, yeah.
Michael Fassbender
Yeah. And he taught you how to do everything, like, legit and how to discharge your weapon and all this stuff. Really? And you did push ups.
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah, yeah. He also got us lost on a night maneuver. I remember that.
Michael Fassbender
On purpose?
Lee Jung Jae
No, I think it was in purpose. I just remember he was walking along with his charts and he was like. And he was. And he fell into a hole and he was like, God damn it. And then I just remember we were all sitting in the RA at night, just sort of waiting until we found, like, coordinates of where we were supposed to get to.
Michael Fassbender
Now, this show's based on the popular. The French.
Lee Jung Jae
Le Bureau. Yeah.
Michael Fassbender
The Bureau. The Bureau. Okay. So the Bureau. But did you watch it when it was out as the Bureau?
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah, I did. I watched it with Alessia again. We were sort of watching it. I think it was in lockdown. And we watched the first two seasons, and then, you know, the way these shows, you're gripped. Oh. But we couldn't get any of the other seasons. I couldn't find them on itunes or anything else. So that was the end of it.
Michael Fassbender
So you don't really know how your thing's gonna.
Lee Jung Jae
No. And Jodie Turner Smith, who plays my love interest in it. She's amazing.
Michael Fassbender
Oh, she's fantastic.
Lee Jung Jae
Yeah.
Michael Fassbender
The whole cast. Jodie Turner Smith. Great.
Lee Jung Jae
Richard Gere.
Michael Fassbender
Richard Gere. Come on.
Lee Jung Jae
What a sexy guy.
Michael Fassbender
How does he. Two of you guys in the same room? I mean, it's a lot of sexy Come on. There's a lot of hip thrusting and jiving back and forth. Yeah, yeah. That's Michael Fassbender. Watch new episodes of the Agency on Paramount with Showtime. We'll be right back with Lee Jung Jae. Stick around, everybody. Come on. White doves at my doorstep. What comes around goes around. Like the Vortex competition, I'm all for it. Vortex. Choke them out. Getting force fair. Setting my goals for what I need. Our next guest won an Emmy for his starring role in the hit show squid game. Season two, premieres December 26th, only on Netflix. Everyone, please welcome Lee Jung Jae. Thank you for being here. It's so nice to meet you in person. Last time I had you on, we zoomed. Yes, right. Two or three years ago. Yes. And it was right before Squid Game came out. It was. It's the biggest thing ever. I mean, it is. I mean, it was. It wasn't out yet. Now it's the Netflix most watched series ever. Bigger than Stranger Things anything. I mean, you were phenomenal in it. I think I told you then, but you just. You acted so well and you actually made me sad. You made me, like, love you. I felt so bad for you. I'm like, I want this guy to win the whole thing. Whatever you want to do. Win the Squid Game, please. I love you. And then, yeah, I don't want to ruin anything, but if you watch it, it's just phenomenal performance. And you won an Emmy for it, so congratulations. Well deserved. What do you remember about that night?
Dustin Nickerson
That night, it was double the fun and the excitement. And also, it felt twice as surreal because Director Huang and I both won. And now, even. Even now, just thinking about it, my heart is about to burst. I can't even put it into words. It was a truly amazing night.
Michael Fassbender
Where. Where do. Where do you keep your Emmy? In the middle of my living room. That's where I would keep it too, if I got one. It's a global phenomenon. But you've had a huge career for 30 years. How did you start acting?
Dustin Nickerson
Honestly, I was getting ready to work for an interior design company back then. And then I got a part time job working at a cafe, and I was suggested a part time modeling gig. And because it paid a lot more than what the cafe paid me, I thought I'd take it up. And that modeling gig led to me being cast as an actor. I got a suggestion, you know, why don't you try it out? And so I thought, okay, maybe I'll go ahead, get saved up a little bit more. And then I'm just gonna leave the industry. I didn't know that that would be the beginning to this long of a career. Never knew that I'd be in something like Squid Game and never knew I'd be here sitting with you at the Tonight Show.
Michael Fassbender
I'm so happy you're here. We have a photo of your early modeling career. This is you for a crunky chocolate bar. Look at you here. Wow. Stud. Mr. Cool. Oh, my gosh. Crunky chocolate bar. Oh, my. This is the face. I can't believe I'm meeting the man behind crunky. It's unbelievable. Thank you again for being here. The new season of squid game. December 26th. The day after Christmas.
Lee Jung Jae
That's right.
Michael Fassbender
How will you be celebrating Christmas?
Dustin Nickerson
I've been on the press tour. You know, I've been out and about for a promo. We've been in la. We're now in New York. And so I think on the 25th, I'm going to need to catch up on my sleep.
Michael Fassbender
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dustin Nickerson
So that on the 26th, I'm going to go ahead and binge watch it just like all of you.
Michael Fassbender
You are. Were you hesitant to do season two? Was there pressure to do season two.
Dustin Nickerson
Because season one was so widely loved by the entire world? We did have that level of pressure about, you know, are we going to be able to top that with us being able to get as loved as the first season? However, what I can confidently say is that our story has gotten more diverse, more complex, deeper, and the themes are also a lot more clearer, too. So I don't know if I can say it will be as successful, but what I can say is that it's just as well made.
Michael Fassbender
Ooh. How do we set up what's happening in season two?
Dustin Nickerson
First of all, many people are going to get killed.
Michael Fassbender
I thought that. I thought that was going to happen.
Dustin Nickerson
And I'm gonna do my best to stay alive.
Michael Fassbender
Fans have a lot of questions about this new season of Squid Game, and I wanted to see if you could answer some. Okay. Now, I have these buttons right here. Okay. Yeah. These are famous from the show. Yeah. Okay, now, if the answer is yes, hit the O. Okay. If it is no, hit. Okay. Okay. Okay. We all remember. Oh, this doll. Will she be back in season two? Yes, she will. I love this game. I love this. We know that you're back in the game this time. Will you be competing against other people who've also won the game? No. Really? The only winner of the game. This is so fun. This is so fun. Do you become the new frontman? That's the rumor. And are you now in charge of the games? What? Really? What? This is crazy. I think the Internet just broke right there. Wow. Okay. Will we see any new games in season two? Yeah. Okay, good. Hopefully, yeah. Oh, yeah. Is season three of Squid Game coming to Netflix in 2025? Really? Season three? Yes. Lee Jun Jae, everybody. Squid Game season two premieres December 26th on Netflix. More Tonight show after the break. Stick around, everybody. Our next guest is the co host of the don't make me come back there podcast, available on the Naetland YouTube channel. Making his Tonight show debut. Please welcome the very funny Dustin Nickerson.
Jimmy Fallon
Ah, thank you everybody. That was overwhelming. So I've been married 20 years, and when you've been married that long, like, you're always looking for new activities, like new things to do. So recently, me and my wife, we went to an escape room. Sorry, I misspoke. We fought in the car. Yeah, sorry, escape room. I'm not gonna pay for that. I can just drive around with a toddler in traffic for free. Couples fight because they're differences, right? Like every couple has differences. Like, I love my wife. I'm crazy about my wife. I love my wife so much. But she's a good sleeper and I hate that. Like, if you're the good sleeper in your relationship, enjoy that. And no, we're not happy for you. I take no amount of joy and pleasure in my wife's good sleep. None. None whatsoever. You ever do that? Bad sleeper? You've been tossing and turning for three hours. You look at your happily sleeping partner next to you and you're just like, well, good for you. No, I love that how you just wanted to go to bed and night, night, you're asleep, just like that. No worries, no anxieties, just well rested. Every day, all we have most of our fights while she's unconscious. Cause here's the thing. The good sleeper will never know the struggle of the bad sleeper. Every part of sleep is bad for us, especially going to sleep, because body and brain cannot agree on bedtime. Like, I can be barely able to stand physically tired. And body's like, hey, Brain, we should go to bed. And brain's like, totally, let's do it. And then you hit the pillow. And brain's like, hey, real quick, here's everything in your life you've ever been concerned about. Here it is. And you're like, come on, brain. It's one in the morning. We can't do anything about that. And Brain's like, I'm so sorry. That's my mistake. You know what? Instead, here's some bad memories. Also a scene from the scariest movie you've ever seen. Also, you have to go pee again. Now, my wife's sleep has been getting worse lately, and I'm happy about that. And it's because we're getting older and sleep gets harder as you get older, you know, like. Cause you keep losing sleep positions. You know, when you're young, anything goes. Your bed is just a blank canvas of opportunity and self expression. However you wanna lay that night, you can lay whatever you wanna be that night, you can be it. Not anymore. Not at my age. You know, like, stomach. I can't sleep on stomach anymore. I mean, I can, but if I do, I can't check my blind spot for about two days.
Michael Fassbender
Just.
Jimmy Fallon
You start moving like Batman. Everywhere you go. Like, where is she? I lost left shoulder about six months ago. Devastating, devastating blow. I was primarily a left shoulder sleeper. Me and lefty, so many good years together. And that's when I realized that that's what aging is, is you keep losing all your different sleep positions until you reach your final one. Sleep gets harder, man. It really does. You know, like again, when you're that deep sleeper too, even waking up is hard. Even waking up because you sleep very heavy and it's very groggy, you know. You know, iPhone is the facial recognition. You ever wake up so ugly you can't open your iPhone? Your phone is like, that cannot be you. I am filled with the most sophisticated technology in human history. And I don't know, Goblin got ahold of me last night. If that is you, I can't be seen with you. All right, you need to go down to Cricket Wireless and get a burner.
Michael Fassbender
I can't.
Jimmy Fallon
Now, all that being said, I actually am very glad my wife gets the good rest. All right? She needs it. She deserves it. It's very hard to be a woman in ways that I'm still, like, learning. Like I was on a date with my wife. Reese says, like, hey, I need to go to the bathroom. Do you need to go? She goes, yeah, I do need to go, but I'm not gonna go. Cause I'm wearing this romper and it's not a great pee outfit. I go, honey, I have no idea what you just said. Cause as a man, every outfit I've ever worn, great pee outfit. I've never had a bad one. They're all good. You know, sometimes I wear a belt. It's like A fun obstacle along the way. And I go, what do you mean? She's like, dustin, this is all connected. Everything that I'm wearing here is one thing. And I'm like, huh? She's like, dustin, it all. This all comes off. Dustin, I'm getting naked in there. Gentlemen, Obi know this. They're getting naked in there. Not a little naked, all the way naked. They're just sitting there to P. F Chang's on a Tuesday, putting a lot of faith in a pretty tiny little door, hoping an eyeball doesn't come through that crack right there and see literally everything like, oh, didn't shave there. I see they're full nude just to go pee. I can't relate to that at all. If I'm full nude going pee, I'm in the shower. All right, everybody, I'm Dustin Nickerson. Thank you so much, everybody. Thank you.
Michael Fassbender
Oh, my God. That's. How you doing? Thank you, buddy. My friend Dustin Nickerson, don't make me come back there. Is available on the Nateland YouTube channel. We'll be right back, everybody. Come on. My thanks to Michael Fassbender, Lee Jung Jae, Dustin Nickerson once again, and the Roots right there from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Good night, everybody. Thank you.
