From Studio 6B in Rockefeller center in the heart of New York City, it's the Tonight show starring Jimmy Palmer. Tonight, join Jimmy and his guest, Sarah Silverman. Bobby Cannavale, Lola Young. And featuring team legendary Ruth Curtis, 2082. And now, here he is. Give me.
Jimmy Palmer
Come on. That's great. Thank, thank you very much, everyone. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here.
Jimmy Fallon
You made it.
Jimmy Palmer
Thank you for watching on TV. Well, guys, over 75% of Americans are dealing with freezing temperatures as the country is getting hit with a once in a generation storm. Yep. Of course, when it's this cold, it's important to check in on the elderly. That's why President Trump spent all day on the phone like he doesn't live here anymore. And I'm fine. Yep, these next few days are going to be brutally cold. However, things will start to warm up by the weekend. Elon Musk was right. Right now, temperatures are here. By Friday, they're going to be here. And then on the weekend, they're going to be, well, today was Trump's first full day in office. Yep. Trump is back. He's now headline news 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as opposed to the last four years when he was also headline news 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And everyone's talking about this. One of Trump's first moves as president was to pardon nearly all of the 1,600 January 6th defendants. Yep. The January 6th rioters are free. They were so excited to be reunited with their friends and family who turned them in. I see. I know where he is. Meanwhile, Trump just signed executive orders renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and changing denali back to Mount McKinley. He's serious about renaming things and he's not done there. Check out some of these other orders. First up, he's changing San antonio to, to St. Tony. Up next, he's changing New York to Trumpsylvania. Next up, he's making the Rocky Mountains, the Sylvester Stallone Mountains. That one, I like that one. I like that one. Here's another one. He had the US Virgin Islands, now they're the Mike Pence Islands. Next up, he's renaming Burger King and Dairy Queen to Burger President and dare you, First Lady. Here's another one. He's referring to the Bill of Rights as light suggestions. And finally, he's changing Melania to Hey, Siri. So someone actually responds, well, listen to this. I read that Trump is personalizing the Oval Office by bringing back the Diet Coke button on his desk. Yeah, it's someone's entire job just to run in and bring Trump a Diet Coke. On the bright side, Rudy Giuliani is working again, so that's something. Got a job?
Sarah Silverman
Yeah.
Jimmy Palmer
Guys, it's officially Trump's first week back in office and he already has a packed schedule. It's a lot to take in, but here. I'll catch you up. Sunday, save TikTok Monday, start job. Tuesday, watch TikTok Wednesday, back to job. Thursday meetings. Give some orders. Tell his staff, make meetings shorter. Friday, talk about the border. Yell fake news at the reporters. Work, then golf. Then jump on plane. Note to self, learn VP's name. Work, then golf. Make junior caddy call to Fox News. Call to Vladdy. Higher than fire. Then invade Canada. Way too cold. Trade it for Panama. Hire than fire, then invade Greenland. Boring. Trade it for New Zealand. Golf, work. Golf 10. Honor roll work. Golf tan, work. TikTok scroll first. Thank the nation. Second week, time for vacation.
Jimmy Fallon
Well.
Jimmy Palmer
Switching gears to some business news. Costco workers have voted for to authorize a nationwide strike. Yep. In response, Costco has threatened to replace them with Kirkland brand workers. Meanwhile, BJ's workers have voted for the 1000th time to change that name. Hey, I heard about a tattoo artist who inked his wife with RIP TikTok 2016-2025 before finding out the ban was lifted. It's a shame because it ruins what otherwise would be abus beautiful tattoo. That's right. We have a great show.
Jimmy Fallon
Sarah Silverman is here tonight. Bobby Cannavale is joining us and Lola Young is here to talk. Stick around.
Jimmy Palmer
We'll be right back with Sarah Silverman.
Jimmy Fallon
Eric, come on back.
Jimmy Palmer
Our first guest is an Emmy winning comedian who co created the new musical the Bedwetter. Performances begin at the arena Stage in Washington D.C. february 4th, running through March 16th. Tickets are available at arenastage.org Please welcome Sarah Silverman. Sarah Silverman, welcome back to the Tonight Show. Congratulations about your new musical here, the Bedwetter. This is based on your memoir, which I love, the Bedwetter. Thanks. It was such a great book. Super funny. But I want to get into your standup, your stand up. You're still on tour right now.
Bobby Cannavale
Yeah.
Jimmy Palmer
And you just filmed your special over the weekend.
Bobby Cannavale
Yeah, I'm in the middle of tour and for some reason I shot my special in the middle of this tour. So yeah, it was great. But I completely lost my voice right before it.
Jimmy Palmer
No.
Bobby Cannavale
And. But I had a really good attitude. Cause my therapist taught me to say thank you for everything. Just as it is. And then, you know, it was all right. They pumped me through filled with steroids, and that makes it so you can talk. But now I'm, like, off the. Like, they put the steroids in me, and then I had the strength of 10 men, and now I'm just off of steroids. And I feel like, you know, I only have the strength of, like, two men.
Jimmy Palmer
Oh, my God. Oh, my goodness. Two men. Oh, my God. Well, we'll get through this last. Since the last time I've talked to you, you've become a homeowner, by the way.
Bobby Cannavale
Yeah. That's a big deal.
Jimmy Palmer
Congratulations.
Bobby Cannavale
Yeah. I never thought I'd live in a house.
Jimmy Palmer
You never?
Bobby Cannavale
No. I grew up in a house in New Hampshire, but I never thought I'd live in a house. And it's just a lot of work, you know? You can't just call down and be like, edgar, my refrigerator doesn't work.
Jimmy Palmer
No, no, you have to do.
Bobby Cannavale
I do have a lovely boyfriend. Who? You? Rory Albanese.
Jimmy Palmer
I love Rory Albanese. How's he doing? Is he great?
Bobby Cannavale
He's awesome.
Jimmy Palmer
Does he help around the house?
Bobby Cannavale
Oh, my God, he's so handy. I actually. I feel like I wished for him, really, you know, like. But he. I remember him telling me, he goes, I'm a dad without kids looking for a lawn to mow. And when people. Isn't that so sweet? But when people tell you who they are, I always go, like, no, you're not. But he really, really is. Like, anytime I'm looking for him, he's like, on a. You know, fixing something or changing a filter. Oh, my God. He loves his. We have a little patch of grass, and he loves it so much, you know, and he takes care of it. And he went away for two weeks, and he would FaceTime me, and he really just wanted to see his grass. Like, he'd be like, oh, it's so good to see you. Could you just bring it out to the lawn?
Jimmy Palmer
I'd be like, you're not calling to say hi to me and check it on the one you love.
Bobby Cannavale
He wanted to see his grass.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah.
Bobby Cannavale
He loves it so much. He works so hard on it.
Jimmy Palmer
He's a proud. He's a proud guy. A homeowner. The 50th season of Saturday Night Live. This is the 50th season of Saturday Night Live.
Jimmy Fallon
It's a big deal.
Jimmy Palmer
We have a giant big special. February 16th. It's gonna be live. You were on the cast when you were a writer and performer, when you were 22.
Bobby Cannavale
That's right.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah.
Bobby Cannavale
I was there right before you were there. Then for one season, I made an indelible impact.
Jimmy Palmer
You did, absolutely.
Bobby Cannavale
Yes, I was there. The 1993. 94. Just to give you an idea of how good I look.
Jimmy Palmer
And how was it? What was your experience?
Sarah Silverman
I was great.
Bobby Cannavale
I loved it. You know, it's funny, you know, Mike, obviously. Mike Shoemaker, Goliath. When I was there, I did. I remember I had a great time. You know, I got along with everybody and I was scrappy. I just remember being shocked at how grownups behaved. I just remember just thinking, because I was a kid, you know, I was just like, I can't believe grownups are acting this way. You know, people would have, like, big fights. You know, back then, it was like they were like fist when I was there, you know, really? But it was awesome. And I remember at that time, I had learned to craft. I had figured out a craft where you can. You can take tampons, like a box of tampons, and dip them in water and then like whip them against a wall and they just splat and stay. They'll stay forever, but they. You can pull them off and they don't make a mark. But anyway, I did that in my. I did that in my office. I like, whipped a wet tampon, like wet from water. You know, I get into the corner and anyway, I came back to SNL like 10 or 15 years later, and I saw Mike Shoemaker and he goes, guess what's still in your office?
Jimmy Palmer
No way. No way. That's a craft that lives a long. Lives a long life.
Bobby Cannavale
I think that's a great craft for girls.
Jimmy Palmer
It really is. Yes. You co created this new musical here, the Bedwetter. Yeah, I know you. Adam Schlesinger, too. Gosh, I loved him. A talented, talented human being.
Bobby Cannavale
Yeah, clap for him.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, yeah, he's great. Of course.
Bobby Cannavale
He was a brilliant, brilliant, hilarious songwriter. And he wrote a lot of the crazy ex girlfriend songs with Regia Bloom and he. So we were friends. He's from that band Fountains of Wayne.
Jimmy Palmer
Fountains of Wayne, yeah, exactly.
Bobby Cannavale
We wrote the lyrics together and he wrote all the music. And then he was one of the early deaths. COVID deaths. And. Yeah, so we do miss him. Now you're glad you clapped for him because you feel better?
Jimmy Palmer
No, no, they were gonna clap anyway. But I know you as a musical comedian. I know because I've seen you do bits. You've sing songs, I've seen you rap. I mean, but were you always into Musical.
Bobby Cannavale
Yeah. I grew up, you know, I grew up in New Hampshire. My mom turned us onto all the musicals and everything. And it's interesting because the musical the Bedwetter is just about the year I'm 10, you know, and so I'm not in it. It's like a little me. And there's someone plays. Shoshana Bean, plays my mother.
Jimmy Palmer
No way.
Bobby Cannavale
So brilliant. And she was my first Elfabus. So it's very exciting. And. But in that moment of time, my mom was really in bed all the time because she had clinical depression, which, you know, at the time was called your mother's lazy.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, yeah, at the time. Yeah, that's what they called that. Yeah.
Bobby Cannavale
But two years after that time that this takes place, my mom became the director of a local college, a theater director. And she directed about 25 musicals in the next 20 years and saw a star and everyone like, you know, she died like eight years ago. And at her funeral, like, you know, anyone could get up and talk. And some guy got up, none of us knew who he was, and he goes, I was her waiter at Applebee's. And she. She asked me if I sang or acted. And I said, I don't know. And she said, why don't you come down and audition and we'll find out. And that year I was Curly in Oklahoma.
Jimmy Palmer
I love that story.
Bobby Cannavale
And I was in.
Jimmy Palmer
I love that story. That's so sweet.
Bobby Cannavale
Y love this little addendum. I was actually, tomorrow I play Concord, New Hampshire, which is where I was born. And I. That's not possible, but thank you.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, they're all from Concord. Yeah.
Bobby Cannavale
But I was. When I was 12, I was in the community theater production of Annie and I played Annie and it was a very New Hampshire Annie. Like Daddy Warbucks is like, annie, I wanna be your father.
Jimmy Palmer
Everyone had an accent. Yeah, but would your mom cast you in the plays?
Bobby Cannavale
No, I would. My friends and I would be like the people that moved the stage, the props and stuff.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. But I remember reading maybe that your mom was very honest with you and was she?
Bobby Cannavale
My mother couldn't lie. And there's good and bad things about it. But I remember her saying, when people take your picture, tilt your head down because otherwise your nostrils look like a two car garage. I took it as shoot for the stars.
Sarah Silverman
You know who.
Bobby Cannavale
One of her students, one of her actors was this actress. Jennifer Simard, who is starring in Death becomes her.
Jimmy Palmer
Oh my gosh, right now on Broadway.
Lola Young
So that's.
Bobby Cannavale
Yeah, that's really cool. She's so brilliant. And she was in all my mom's plays in New Hampshire.
Jimmy Palmer
Well, this, I also love the tag on here if you can zoom into there. Comedy legends aren't born, they're made in middle school. Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Cannavale
I'll be honest, the one I wanted was just wicked Pissa.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, of course.
Lola Young
Adam and I both went with that.
Bobby Cannavale
They went with that. That's good too.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Jimmy Palmer
Well, congratulations on this. Your mother will be very proud. Sarah Silverman, everybody. For tickets to the bedwetter, go to arenastage.org Bobby Cannavale joins us after the break.
Jimmy Fallon
Stick around. There it is. With the pin like Willie on top of the whore. Pure souls with the city's most popular four, tell em.
Jimmy Palmer
Our next guest is an Emmy winning and Tony nominated actor who stars in the new movie Unstoppable, which is available now on Prime Video. Everyone, please welcome Bobby Cannavale. Welcome back, my friend. Thank you so much for coming back to the show. You're a stud. You look great, man.
Sarah Silverman
First time dancing out, I've never done it, you know. And Sam Rockwell.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, Rockwell dances all the time. You had a good dance there.
Sarah Silverman
He said to me one day, he's like, hey, why don't you have a dance when you come out on that, you know, you should dance. It'll make you feel good.
Jimmy Palmer
And did it?
Sarah Silverman
It did. It made me feel good.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, we liked it. I like dancing with you. Thank your partner. And one of our favorite people, Rose Byrne was on the show. We love her so much. And she was telling me how your kids are obsessed with Jack Black.
Sarah Silverman
Oh, the saga continues.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. I'm sorry, but this is the thing.
Sarah Silverman
They're obsessed with Jack Black. You know, I have three sons and I have two of them are 20 years apart from the first one. So the first one fell in love with Jack Black 20 years ago. And now these kids, the same movie. They're just in love with him again. He's a national treasure.
Jimmy Palmer
Of course he is.
Sarah Silverman
They should put statues of him up. They should everywhere, but. Yeah. So Rocco's got a great. His great pen pal friend, Mickey Levine, who lives in la. He's got this friend and they pen pal, they write to each other and they're both obsessed with Jack Black. So they're on the lookout for him.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah.
Sarah Silverman
So finally, Geraco's waiting for the letter. You know, it takes like a month to get a letter, right? And he gets the letter and he says, I found him, I spotted him, I got him. What, took a picture of him. He sent It. I've brought that picture today.
Jimmy Palmer
You have the picture of Jack Black in the wild.
Sarah Silverman
It's happened.
Jimmy Palmer
Walking on the streets.
Sarah Silverman
My son's life is complete.
Jimmy Palmer
This is it.
Sarah Silverman
Can you make that out?
Jimmy Palmer
Let me see.
Sarah Silverman
There it is. Okay, so.
Jimmy Palmer
I don't know. Let me see that thing. So. I'm so sorry, but are you sure that that's.
Sarah Silverman
Hey, man. It's good enough for them, you know? It's good enough for them. Are you sure that's still a looks, you know? Yeah, no, that's him. That's definitely him.
Jimmy Palmer
Are you sure? It looks like.
Sarah Silverman
You guys know that's him, right? I mean, I don't know that that.
Jimmy Palmer
That hand looks fake even. It looks like that's a cartoon for sure. That's the AI but that's definitely what he would wear and he would rock. But. Yeah, they got it. You gotta. Got a sighting.
Sarah Silverman
I made a movie with him like 10 years ago. And Rocco still asks me what we talked about at dinner. We have one dinner.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, he's a magical dude.
Sarah Silverman
Yeah, he is a magical.
Jimmy Palmer
I know. You just told me you guys got back from Australia. I'm dying to go to Australia.
Sarah Silverman
Yeah.
Jimmy Palmer
It's just beautiful. I know. I love everything. I love the people I love.
Sarah Silverman
And they love you if you're a New Yorker. You know, I've. Now I've been with Rose for a long time, so I've been there many times and I look forward to it every time. And it's just.
Jimmy Palmer
They like a New Yorker.
Sarah Silverman
They like a New Yorker. Well, I don't know. They like me. I mean, I go to a coffee shop there and I walk out with 10 friends.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah.
Sarah Silverman
You know, and they. They just. They're great people. They say the funniest things. They're. They're curious people. They ask a lot of questions. They're. They're just great people, you know, they know.
Lola Young
Know.
Sarah Silverman
They know what kind of tree they're standing under. Like, you'll be talking to them and they'll be like, ah, this is a eucalypt and it's a kind of gum tree that. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And the larrakeets up there too. And they don't like all the birds and. No, we don't. We don't do that here. We know squirrels and pigeons and that's it. But they know. They know about. They know about their fauna and they know about their wildlife and they're just interesting people. And they have. You know, it's crazy to go that. That long On a plane, land, and you still speak in English, but you're not.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. Is it correct? Yeah.
Sarah Silverman
Completely different.
Jimmy Palmer
Are phrases sticking with you now that are Australian phrases.
Sarah Silverman
I say things I never. Like, I never. I say things I never thought I would. I say, like, they say, how you going? So when you meet somebody there and they go, how you. Instead of how you doing? They go, how you going? And when I say that, like, I forget sometimes, and I'll say that to somebody and they look, they're like, no, you just say to me like, they.
Jimmy Palmer
Can'T say that in New York.
Sarah Silverman
Say that in New York.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. With your accent, too. Like, there you go.
Sarah Silverman
I like that one. I like. I reckon that's another one that I get grief for here, but I love that one.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, I reckon.
Sarah Silverman
I reckon I'm gonna go down to the pub later.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, Something.
Sarah Silverman
I reckon I'll join you. I like that one. You know, can we talk about this?
Jimmy Palmer
You posted this photo, and I just thought it was kind of cool. You and Kevin Costner, you said, this is your very first film.
Sarah Silverman
Old picture.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. Look at you guys. And what do you. What do you remember about this? Tell me about that.
Sarah Silverman
That was great, man. You know, that was a movie called the Postman, and I hadn't done anything, and I was one of the first people he met, and he cast me in the room, and he was like, can you grow your hair and your beard for the next three months? And I was like, yeah. And he was like, can you ride a horse? And I was like, yeah, of course. I didn't know how to ride a horse at all. I'd never been west of Chicago. He brought me out there. He taught me how to ride a horse. He was the nicest guy, man. He taught me so many things. Yeah. And he knew I had never done anything.
Jimmy Palmer
First time on set, it was like.
Sarah Silverman
You come to work early tomorrow and I'll show you a few things. And he showed me things to this day that I still. That I still think about and use. And then. And then. And then, you know, the movie's three hours long and I'm completely cut out of it. But. But.
Jimmy Palmer
But he called me Kevin.
Sarah Silverman
He called me personally, okay? To tell me how sorry he was like, you know, I. Again, to this day, I've never really had that kind of an experience. And then the kicker of it was, you know, because I'd never done a movie before, I thought they paid for everything, you know? So I was in this hotel for, like, a month and a half, and Just ringing up room service. And I had no money. And then when I left, they asked for, you know, I didn't even know what an incidental was. I was like, incidentally.
Jimmy Palmer
What? Incidentally? What does that mean?
Sarah Silverman
I didn't have the money to cover it. And KC right there, he took care of it. So I owe him a lot, including about $1,000.
Jimmy Palmer
He paid for your bill. That's a class act.
Sarah Silverman
He's doing all right.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. Let's talk about your new movie. Unstoppable is based on a true story. In its first week, it went to number one on Prime Video. Not too shabby. Number one, not bad. Can we set up what this is about?
Sarah Silverman
That's a great story about a man named Anthony Robles. Anthony was born with one leg from Arizona. He was an incredible wrestler who would rise through the ranks. He would walk on at Arizona estate from his home state and become national champion. It's an incredibly inspiring story. His family was incredible. He's got all these siblings and an unbelievable mother that Jennifer Lopez plays in the movie Judy Robles. And he. Not only did he go on to become national champion, but he's in a. He's a very inspiring motivational speaker and he's changed a lot of lives out there and he continues to do so with this movie.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. It's fantastic. And you're.
Sarah Silverman
That's a great sports film, right?
Jimmy Palmer
It's a great sports, A great sports film.
Sarah Silverman
Who doesn't love a sportsman?
Jimmy Palmer
I love it.
Sarah Silverman
You know what my kids say?
Jimmy Fallon
Is it?
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. What?
Sarah Silverman
My little guys, they, they, they say a movie is not a good movie if it doesn't have a bad guy. So yeah, movies got to have a bad guy.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah. You play a bad guy. Yeah. Well, it's good to see you got range, cuz you're one of the nicest guys. Yeah. Come on. Good to see you. Bobby Cannavali, everybody. Unstoppable is available now on Prime Video.
Jimmy Fallon
We'll be right back with Lola Young.
Jimmy Palmer
Stick around.
Jimmy Fallon
I am the living definition of improving the groove. I use the same tooth issue.
Jimmy Palmer
Our next guest is a very talented artist whose album this Wasn't Meant for your Anyway is out right now. Please welcome Lola Young. I'm so excited you're here. Congrats on everything that's going on with you. I'm a big fan. You just announced your European leg of your tour. Completely sold out.
Lola Young
Yeah. Madness.
Jimmy Palmer
I mean, how fun. What do people, what do they have to expect from a Lola Young show?
Lola Young
Well, a Lola Young show is it's fun, it's edgy, it's raw. It's a bit slap and dash, you know what I mean? It's always tip top. You know, you're not gonna hear, ooh, you know, sometimes my voice goes and all sorts, and sometimes I'm too tired to even be doing it. But you know what? Every show is wonderful. Different experience, electric. And I love performing, so.
Jimmy Palmer
And you're doing also Coachella. Congratulations on that. That's a big deal. Do you, like, is doing a festival show different from the Lola Young show?
Lola Young
Do you know? It is, because, like, not everyone's there to see you. Unfortunately. If that was the case, then I would be way more famous, but it's more like. It's more just like you. You just, like when you get to a certain level and you're headlining these festivals and stuff, then it becomes a different story. But you have to cater to people who have just been bought by. Bought there by. With their friends. Like, you know, I mean, they're kind of just there, like, don't really. Who's lowly young, like. And then they come and then they're like, oh, she's not too bad, or they think I'm rubbish, or whatever the case may be. But regardless, you have to cater to the fact that, like, they're not necessarily there for you. So you've got to make the set a little bit more, you know, and you can't be talking too much rubbish in between because nobody cares. And everyone's like, hi and stuff.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But if they do discover you, that's kind of fun.
Lola Young
Of course. And that's the best part about it. You get new fans.
Jimmy Palmer
New fans. I know Tyler the creator's a fan of yours. You're featured on his. Yeah, on his new album and one of his songs. Congrats on that.
Lola Young
Thank you.
Jimmy Palmer
How did he reach? Yeah, it's great. How did he reach out to you?
Lola Young
So he messaged me, right? I hope you don't mind me saying this. He messaged me, like, a photo. And now, who know who the guy is? He sends me, like, a cutout, like a sticker of Busta Rhymes with no contacts. That's what he does every time he speaks to me. I don't know if he does it to everyone else, but it's odd. He's an odd guy. I mean, come on. I started the Craig. But anyway, he messaged me. He said, uncle Steve. And I go, so then there's me thinking, bad people have just been messaging me, like, so many Big eyes. And so I'm stressed out, like, thinking, what is Uncle Steve? And am I Uncle Steve? And I start questioning my own self and everything. And then suddenly it becomes. So basically, then I respond and I go, do it again. Cause I found one meme that had Uncle Steve in it. It was just completely incorrect. Then he goes, do what I'm little rug. And then I go, right, okay, this is getting really weird. So I had to keep it going. So we had a conversation about sandwiches for a little bit and things got kind of odd and wow. And then. Yeah. And then I was in LA and he was like, pull up. I've got this song that I've written that I want you to. And yeah, he's a mag. Imagine.
Jimmy Palmer
He really is a genius. Yeah, we do. Is anyone else research that way? I heard he had, like, a similar weird story with Sza.
Lola Young
No, not as weird. Not as weird.
Jimmy Palmer
No, not as weird as that. That one was.
Lola Young
Be weirder than that.
Jimmy Palmer
Okay, good. Yeah, Uncle Steve.
Lola Young
Yeah. Yeah. But anyway, so then. Yeah, Sz is incredible. She loves me. I love her way more. And she's. She's just.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, yeah, she's fun. Is there anyone else that you think that you would message you and you'll work with?
Lola Young
Yeah. Frank Ocean, if you're listening, you know where I'm at. Drop an album, but prioritize the album first.
Jimmy Palmer
Can we talk about the album? By the way, this Wasn't Meant for your. Anyway is the name of the album. Love that title.
Lola Young
Thank you.
Jimmy Palmer
Totally get it. Love it. It's fantastic. If you don't like it, this Wasn't Meant for you.
Lola Young
Thank. Listen, you had F5. That's fine.
Jimmy Palmer
It's fine. It's so fine. You don't have to love it. This Wasn't Meant for you. Anyway. So all good?
Lola Young
Yes.
Jimmy Palmer
Is that the reason. Is that the reason for the title or is there more to it?
Lola Young
No, that's just you.
Jimmy Palmer
That's it. Was it meant for you? Don't worry about it. You're a huge hit's Messy.
Lola Young
Yeah.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, Big hit. It's on the Billboard top 100. Where'd the idea for the song come from? When did you write it?
Lola Young
So it's been speculated that it's about my parents and it's massively about some close family. But. But. So that combination is more the way I feel about myself. Like I am too messy. You know, back there I was saying, I've never held a broom in my life. You know what I mean? And even that was.
Jimmy Palmer
Well, I Saw you backstage, you were struggling to get your sneakers on because there were two.
Lola Young
Everything in my life is a mess. So it's a very fitting trap. And to be honest, I recently got diagnosed with severe adhd. And that's been another thing that I've been diagnosed with. So along with that, it's been very hard but complex. And it's just about the complexities of how I feel about myself. And on top of that, narcissistic men, unfortunately.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, but do you think people like it for the. Why would you look at me? I mean.
Lola Young
No, I wasn't.
Jimmy Palmer
But I think it's something about. It's something fresh about you and your sound and your honesty and your lyrics. I love your lyrics. And I know I read somewhere that you spent a lot of time on your lyrics.
Lola Young
And I mean.
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, yeah.
Lola Young
Making sure that that's the lyrics is the most important aspect of songwriting for me, personally. I care a lot. Care a lot about poetry and. Yeah. Messi is a song that, like, seems to resonate because people can't really. It's not everyday clean girl aesthetic. Do you know what I mean? Some days you haven't washed your socks. Do you know what I mean?
Jimmy Palmer
Yeah, yeah, I do.
Lola Young
Yeah. You don't need to wash your socks every day.
Jimmy Palmer
You don't.
Lola Young
It's ridiculous.
Jimmy Palmer
And are you aware that how big it is on social media and on TikTok? Yeah.
Lola Young
I mean, this is the thing. So, like, I'm not doing the dance. I can't really dance. I can occasionally twerk in a club, but that's about as far as I'll go. So listen, so when it comes. I've seen the severe react. It's insane. The whole thing is insane. But every time I'm on the app, I've got. I want to hear. Stop hearing my song. Like, play something. Owls. But then at the same time, obviously, it's amazing. It's the best thing in the world. But when you do hear that song, that it's kind of like, come on now, I've heard enough.
Jimmy Palmer
You've heard it enough. But you gotta be proud.
Lola Young
I know. I'm so proud of it.
Jimmy Palmer
You gotta be proud of all this. Also in the uk, which is. I know where you're from. It's charting over there right now. It's gotta be.
Lola Young
This is insane. It's an insane moment. It's very surreal.
Jimmy Palmer
It's well deserved, pal. And thank you so much for being here. And keep doing it. Keep doing your thing, man. You're great.
Jimmy Fallon
