Jimmy Fallon
From Studio 16, Rockefeller center in the heart of New York City with the Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon. I joined Jimmy to stadth. Pete Davis, Kid Cudi, and featuring the legendary Ruth. Ruth. All of that. And now here he is. Give me balance. Hot crowd. Thank you very much. Enjoy yourself. What's up, everybody? Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here. You made it. Hi. You're looking good. Let's get to some news here. Well, guys, today, while speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump called the Epstein files controversy a witch hunt. A witch hunt? As in it's a hunt for which files contain Trump? That one. That one, yeah. He called it a witch hunt. And when they heard, Glinda and Elphaba were like, leave us out of this, dude. We're having a good time. We're happy here in the House. Meanwhile, the Justice Department said that they planned to meet with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. When asked about it, Trump said, it sounds like an appropriate thing to do. He was like, hell, I met with her hundreds of times. I mean, I mean, no, you. Trump's so desperate for a distraction, he's like, who can focus on Epstein when we just found out that Anne Hathaway doesn't have bangs in Devil Wears Prada too? Come on. Everyone's talking about it. And get this. Today's speaker, Mike Johnson said that he's shutting down the House and letting lawmakers go on vacation early to avoid a vote releasing the Epstein files. But Mike Johnson said, don't worry, we will not deal with this the moment we get back. Thank you. Everyone's like, I don't. I get it. Everyone's still talking about the Epstein file. So today, Trump put out a message with an update. This is President Trump, and I can't just release the Epstein files because I've placed all the files in a secure holding room, ensuring Defense Department equivalent restrictions. I've seen to it that each and every document has been put through a fully independent review and evaluation. All I can say is that I was not close with Epstein personally. He was simply my business's former financier. I hope that clears things up. Bye. There you go. I just keep making the voice higher so it's just sound like Jimmy. I don't even know who it sounds like anymore. It sounds like the same way doggy. I just gotta make it. It sounds nothing like it. Hi, guys. I saw that Subway just hired an executive from Burger King to be their new CEO. There could be a lot of changes coming to Subway, but They just put out a new ad to reassure their longtime customers. Even though we're changing management, we've promised to keep all your favorite things about subway, like $5 footlongs for $8 workers who clearly ha cookies that were made either 10 minutes or 10 days ago. No in between. Brighter lights than an operating room. A massive Jared cover up on the same scale as the Epstein coverup and tuna Subway. Eat fresh. Eat fresh. Okay. Well, some TV news. Last night's episode of Bachelor in Paradise got pretty heated. Now, we love Bachelor in Paradise on our show and there was kind of a lot of drama when Kat asked Dale if he kissed Allie Jo. Now, if you missed it, don't worry because here to reenact that scene with actual lines from the show are the Roots, his own Tariq and Questlove Tariq. Thanks, Jimmy.
Pete Davidson
Tonight I'll be playing the role of.
Jimmy Fallon
Cat, a 29 year old nurse practitioner.
Pete Davidson
From San Diego who's confronting Dale on whether or not he kissed Allie Jo. And I'll be playing Dale, a 36.
Jimmy Fallon
Year old entrepreneur from South Dakota who's.
Pete Davidson
Being confronted by Katt for maybe kissing Ally Jo.
Jimmy Fallon
Whenever you're ready.
Pete Davidson
If a girl comes in next week.
Jimmy Fallon
That, like, you would be attracted to or like, want to explore, is that something you're still, like, open to doing?
Pete Davidson
Not really. Like with.
Jimmy Fallon
With Alli Jo.
Pete Davidson
Like, she's nice and everything, but there was no clique.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you guys kiss outside of the kissing booth? Um, yeah. Well, one time. Well, I would have preferred if that was, like, communicated to me.
Pete Davidson
I mean, it wasn't in the card.
Jimmy Fallon
So I dudted it the next day.
Pete Davidson
I dudited. You're telling me. Well, I dated it.
Kid Cudi
I dated it.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, I don't know what this new word, dedded it means.
Pete Davidson
I just dated it. So it wasn't.
Jimmy Fallon
It was just. But you didn't deaded it until the next day.
Pete Davidson
Why would I bring that up there and just deaded.
Jimmy Fallon
I was gonna say, I will give you this rose if you never say da deddediti again.
Pete Davidson
No, I get it. I just thought it was dead.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, there you go. Thank you very much. Quest la patrique, everyone. He deade just had a shit. Come on.
Kid Cudi
That's it.
Jimmy Fallon
That's it. That's good. That's it. Thank you very much. He did it. Yeah. Guys, did you see this? A new report found that the fittest city in America is Arlington, Virginia.
Kid Cudi
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
She's doing crunches in her seat. She's like, yeah, Love it. Well, once again, the least fit city is Mamboob, Iowa. And that's it. A lot of tender ones. Yeah, well, get this. I read that an arcade in the Philippines just installed the world's largest claw machine. Now, Chris. Paul, Chris Paul, what are you doing? What are you doing here? Listen, listen, listen, listen. Well, Jimmy, Jimmy. I'm here to talk about Good Eatin'. An all new plant based snack brand that's bringing bold flavor and serious energy to the snack aisle. I'm sorry, Chris, are you doing the commercial right now? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Chill, chill. The vision here is to bring exciting, better for you snacking options to customers all across the country. Good Eatin is all about raising the bar and imagining what plant based snacks can be. Chris, you really can't just walk out here and do a commercial.
Kid Cudi
But I am.
Jimmy Fallon
But I am. Relax, relax. Good Eating is all plant based and all insanely tasty. We've got spicy puffs, sweet popcorn and flavored tortilla chips. My whole thing isn't about settling, it's about elevating. Chris, stop. I was kind of in the middle of a monologue.
Kid Cudi
Yeah, yeah, right, right.
Jimmy Fallon
That's right, Jimmy, I got you. You know what? Everyone in tonight's audience is going home with their very own bag of goodies and shit. All right. I can lay you there. I guess I could love that. Oh, man, they love that. Come on. But hang on, Chris, what's happening? Uh, I actually. I have something for you too. Me? Yes. It was just announced yesterday that you signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, marking your return to the team where you were a five time all star. Now, they wanted me to present you with this. It's your official jersey. This is it. First time seeing it? Is this first time around? First time seeing it. First time seeing it. Right here. Chris Paul, best friend. Congratulations, dude. Thank you. Welcome back. Welcome home. Thank you. Welcome home, man. Chris Paul, everybody. Come on. Come on, bro. Come on. That's Chris Paul. That's the way it works. We have a great show. Pete Davidson is here tonight. That's my man, Pete Davidson. Ken Cuddy is joining us. Stick around. We'll be right back with Pete Davidson. Everybody, come on back. Our first guest is a very funny comedian and a talented actor who you can see in two new movies, the Pickup, which is on Prime Video August 6th. And the Home is in theaters this Friday. Everyone, please welcome Pete Davidson. Great to see you, bud. They love you. We love you. Welcome back to the show, bud. You look great. I love it. Every time you come on the show, we have a lot to talk about, but the first thing I gotta ask you. I have very exciting news. You're about to be a dad.
Kid Cudi
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I did it. I did it. I did it. You did it.
Pete Davidson
No.
Kid Cudi
If anybody who knows me, it's my dream to be a dad. So I'm so excited. Elsie's excited. I'm excited, you know, to see her be a mom. So we're stoked.
Jimmy Fallon
You're a fantastic dad. I've seen you around kids and you're just so. You're so good.
Kid Cudi
Oh, thanks, man. You're good. It's the best. Everything else doesn't really matter anymore.
Jimmy Fallon
No, it's nice. It really is. Yeah. You see, you go. Oh, this is why I'm doing all this.
Kid Cudi
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
It's just to take care of these people. Yeah.
Kid Cudi
I'm so excited.
Jimmy Fallon
It's the greatest. But you're gonna crush it.
Kid Cudi
Thanks.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm so happy. Thanks for having me.
Kid Cudi
Thank you very much.
Jimmy Fallon
Thanks for. I also want to ask you about this. You're doing stand up after taking a little time away from doing stand up.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And you're back to getting an act together. What does it feel like? Talk to me through this. Cause I want to know. Because I'm opening up for Nate at the end of September.
Kid Cudi
Oh, the Nate summer camp. The crazy Nashville. That's fun. He's the best.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. We're doing msg.
Kid Cudi
Oh, sick. I'm doing slightly smaller venues.
Jimmy Fallon
That's not why I brought it up. I didn't bring it him. You made me say so. What little theater are you doing over there? No, no.
Kid Cudi
Bam.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no. Yeah.
Kid Cudi
No, no, I'm. I'm excited. I haven't done it in a while, and as you know, it's. It's fun. Cuz you're, like, nervous, which I think is the best part.
Jimmy Fallon
I disagree. I. I don't like being nervous.
Kid Cudi
Oh, no, the best part is bombing. No, it's cuz. Cuz I get to go. Cuz, you know, you pop in. You pop into these comedy clubs and the audiences so excited to see you, and then you disappoint the.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, you don't have an act yet.
Kid Cudi
Yeah, and I keep going in.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, it'll get there. Yeah, of course. Yeah. But do you even, like, know where you're starting? Because I have it all typed out.
Kid Cudi
Well, I have some new stuff to talk about now, so I think that'll help.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, of course.
Kid Cudi
No, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You're a great stand up, though. I feel like you'd just be like Riding a bike and go. Yeah, I took a little time off.
Kid Cudi
Oh, thanks. No, it's. You know, it's weird once you get the act down, you know, when you go on the road, you know where all the laughs are going to come in. So it gets kind of boring. So I. Yeah, like. Because, you know, you weirdly get mad. You're like, I bet this is going to work. And then it does. And you're like, you get me. But it does. The most fun is creating it. And then, you know, then you just go on the road.
Jimmy Fallon
Is there a difference doing it now, sober than.
Kid Cudi
Oh, yeah, I'm. It's. That's what I was nervous about because I was like, maybe I'm not very good, or maybe I was so high I thought I was good.
Jimmy Fallon
Exactly. Completely. Yeah. You're like, I want to see if I really did this. Yeah. I have pictures, but, I don't know.
Kid Cudi
Weirdly. Weirdly sharper and, you know, more aware. So it's more fun enjoying it more.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Kid Cudi
When people laugh, you, like, feel it, as opposed to just, you know, sitting so high. You're so high sitting there.
Jimmy Fallon
I'll tell you who you made laugh, and I'll get into this in a long segue. But you have two movies that we can enjoy. Pete Davidson in one is called the Pickup. Okay. And this is a comedy with the. I mean, the best of the best. We have Keke Palmer and Eddie Murphy. Come on now. This is. Yeah, that's.
Kid Cudi
It's a dream come true.
Jimmy Fallon
Talk about that. And I know that you love Eddie. I mean, coming up with comedy, that was your. How did you first hear of Eddie Murphy?
Kid Cudi
I mean, much younger than I am, so I obviously found out first from Donkey. Cause, you know, it was like 2001, I was seven, so. But then I became such a fan of him. I found out who he was, and then I went, remember Fye? And like, Sam Goody, like, in the mall. For your eyes or for your ears, for your entertainment.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you. Sorry. Yeah, thank you. That's exactly what I was.
Kid Cudi
No, no, no. I like what you said about it.
Jimmy Fallon
Fye.
Kid Cudi
That's why they closed.
Jimmy Fallon
It was too confusing. Like, my eyes, my ears. What is this? What is this?
Kid Cudi
They just had an Eddie Murphy section. They have, you know, DVDs, whatever.
Jimmy Fallon
You know, from Shrek. As Donkey.
Kid Cudi
Yeah. And I was like, this donkey guy.
Jimmy Fallon
Rules, so I'll watch whatever.
Kid Cudi
So I saw Eddie Murphy Delirious. So I just. Yeah, one of the best specials ever. And I grabbed it. My mom just, you know, Bought it. And then we were in the car on the way home, and I'm like, seven, and he's like, this, that. And I was like, whoa, Donkey's crazy. Donkey got some ideas.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow. So different take on donkey. Yeah.
Kid Cudi
My mom, you know, took out the DVD and was like, you can't watch this. And then I got so sad, and I think we were going through a tough time, and she saw how much it made me laugh, so she was like, you could watch this. Just like, don't tell anyone.
Jimmy Fallon
So, you know, I love your mom.
Kid Cudi
My mom's the best. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Made a good move.
Kid Cudi
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And then you watched it.
Kid Cudi
Oh, within a week, I was just around the house going, you know, when the ice cream man comes, all that stuff. So he's. He's my hero. So it was amazing getting to work with him.
Jimmy Fallon
Like, he might be the most. One of the most impersonated acts in the, like, in history of comedy. In history. Like, everyone would recite his act word for word. Yeah.
Kid Cudi
The whole act, it's the best. It's also just like, any comedian will tell you it's Eddie and then everyone else.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah.
Kid Cudi
Like, he's in a league of his own.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Did you get to talk to him about this? Did you geek out or.
Kid Cudi
No, I held it tight.
Jimmy Fallon
That's my man. Yeah. Respect.
Kid Cudi
Yeah, I held it tight. I held it tight. And then, like, right before we wrapped, I was like, I love you so much.
Jimmy Fallon
And I was in the back of.
Kid Cudi
The car and he was like, you kept it cool, man. Yeah, but we had a blast, man. It was when I got the offer, I didn't even read it. I was like, yes. And then I read it, and it was great.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Kid Cudi
But I was just so excited.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, you said you made him laugh. It's On Prime Video, August 6th. I mean, but Eddie Murphy's saying that. He's like, no, Pete Davidson's great.
Kid Cudi
That's all you can ask for.
Jimmy Fallon
And Keke Palmer.
Kid Cudi
Keke's the best.
Jimmy Fallon
No, she's next level, dude.
Kid Cudi
She could do it all.
Jimmy Fallon
She's next level.
Kid Cudi
Sing, be funny.
Jimmy Fallon
She could do. Yeah, she's next level. Kiki Palmer. Yeah. I don't even know how to describe her. And then this Friday, the Home. This is a totally different type of movie. Yeah. Comes out. It's a horror film, but I wanted to show just the poster just so we can quick tell this quick story, because this made me laugh. Yeah. Only what happened to you, by the way.
Kid Cudi
Of course.
Jimmy Fallon
So this is called the Home. And this Is an eyeball here? Yeah, that is your eyeball.
Kid Cudi
So, yeah, so in the.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a needle. Okay.
Kid Cudi
Yeah. So in the movie, that happens to my eye. And obviously, I read the script and was just like, that won't be my eye. This is the movie.
Jimmy Fallon
It's in the eye.
Kid Cudi
Of course it'll be a CGI eye.
Jimmy Fallon
People fly. Yeah.
Kid Cudi
You can bring people back from the dead and put them in a movie. That's not my eye.
Jimmy Fallon
Of course not.
Kid Cudi
And here's also. So I get the set, and there's three doctors there, and they all look, you know, not like they're all concerned. And I'm like, what's going on? And my buddy James, who directed it, is like, yeah, well, they're here for your eye. I was like, what do you mean? He goes, well, you know, today's that scene. I go, I know, but what do you mean? He's like, well, it's gotta be your eye. He goes, you have very recognizable eyes. I go, what the. What the hell are you talking about?
Jimmy Fallon
No, I don't.
Kid Cudi
My eyes are normal, sir. So. And this is what I said. I was like, even if that is me, no one's gonna think it's me in the. No one's sitting there being like, that's pizza eye.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, no. No one. No way. No way.
Kid Cudi
So he goes, so we do it. They do the. You know, the Kubrick, Clockwork Orange. They open my eye or whatever. It's all jacked up, and there's these three doctors on the side. And then this actor was, like, messing up his lines. And I was like, come on, dude. Like, come on.
Jimmy Fallon
We got it. This take. We got this. I got a blink. I got a blink.
Kid Cudi
So it was the best. So we didn't get to do a wide shot. It was just right here. And we didn't get to do the wide. Cause I heard in the corner, one of the doctors went to the director and goes, yeah, about 30 more seconds. This is going to be some real damage. So, yeah, so I take the thing off. I'm like, you know, squirting it with water and stuff. I'm like, what the hell just happened? And then we're watching it in Video Village, and the director goes, yeah, it didn't have to be your eye.
Jimmy Fallon
I was like, come on, dude. Yeah, lie to me, man.
Kid Cudi
Lie. Lie. So your eye did great.
Jimmy Fallon
That was the best eye.
Kid Cudi
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Just so you know, when you see this, it's Pete's eye. It's my eye. That's acting.
Kid Cudi
Yeah. Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
That is acting for you. That's commitment.
Kid Cudi
Apparently. I will do anything for scale.
Jimmy Fallon
What do we tell everyone the home is about?
Kid Cudi
So the home is. The home's about. It's always weird doing that.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Sorry.
Kid Cudi
No, no, no.
Jimmy Fallon
It's setting up the clip.
Kid Cudi
It's literally all I have to do.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, no, you're correct.
Kid Cudi
No. So it's this kid, this guy Max, he's having a tough time in life and rather than go to jail, he goes and gets community service at this old folks home. And then chaos ensues.
Jimmy Fallon
No, there's some secret that's happening.
Kid Cudi
There's actually some sick in this. Like I. No, it is. It's very disturbing. I also filmed it three years ago in a K hole so you could enjoy that. Not as funny, I guess.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, we're working stuff out.
Kid Cudi
I got out of the hole.
Jimmy Fallon
I climbed out of the hole. Yeah, yeah. No, but this is. It's scary. This old folks home. And then there's a secret fourth floor that we don't know.
Kid Cudi
There's a secret fourth floor. It's a fun, like, you know, it's frightening. It's frightening. I never got to do just a straight, like, horror movie. So I had a really good time and it was just like, weird. It's a weird one. The guy who. My buddy James, he made the Purge. So it's weird.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, pretty weird. Pete Davidson, everybody. The home was in theaters Friday and the pickup is on Prime Video August 6th. More with Pete after the break. Stick around, everybody. We're going crazy.
Pete Davidson
I spend time with the Prime.
Jimmy Fallon
Welcome back to the Tonight Show. We're hanging out with Pete Davidson. Now, Pete, it's time for us to get to know each other a little bit better with the help of axe throwing. It's time for Axe Me Anything. Now, here's how this works. Behind us is a board with nine categories. We're gonna take turns throwing an axe at the board. Whichever box your axe lands on, your opponent must answer a question from that category. The categories are all about me. They're playing our song. Settle it. Carpe diem. Snl. Not safe for work. Child's play. Who'd you rather? And finally. What's up, Boo?
Kid Cudi
The categories.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, Pete, since I'm the host, I will go first. Please stand in the safety zone.
Kid Cudi
Surely. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Perfect. Here we go. All right. Which one should I go for? Snl. You want snl? You got snl. You want snl? All right, you. Sorry. Let me do it. You want snl? You're gonna get you want Snyder? Thanks. Yeah, yeah. Respect. All right, here we go. Now, I will ask you a question, all right? And you have to answer this. Here we go. What is your favorite SNL backstage moment?
Kid Cudi
Oh.
Jimmy Fallon
Do we have one?
Kid Cudi
I don't know. That's a tough question. Oh, no.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. That you're allowed to talk about.
Kid Cudi
Yeah, I'm trying to. Oh, this is a cool one. You know, when you go under paint cans, there's that little sign that says, watch your head, Farley.
Jimmy Fallon
Farley. Yep.
Kid Cudi
Yeah, they explained that to me my first season. I thought that was really cool. There's a Chris Farley used to bump his head when he would run to sketch. So there's a little plaque that says, watch your head, Farley.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, I know that. That's a real one. How to do that.
Pete Davidson
I love that.
Jimmy Fallon
I love that, too. All right, you're up. I'm gonna get in the safety zone.
Kid Cudi
Get very far away yeah, I'm gonna.
Jimmy Fallon
Get very far away Wait, Pete. Yeah, this is good. Yeah, not bad. Not bad.
Kid Cudi
Yeah, it's not easy.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, maybe you should throw it backwards.
Kid Cudi
Yeah. Is he the guy?
Jimmy Fallon
Hey, your axe. You don't know how to throw an axe.
Kid Cudi
Suck, dude.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my God, the sound is so good. Come on, buddy. You got this. You're throwing him sideways. Oh, come on. You got this. I mean, you're gonna. You're gonna be a great dad. You're gonna be a great dad. He does know how to throw an axe. That is so funny. Look at that. What? I get all about me. So I have to answer something about me or something. But you can ask any question.
Kid Cudi
All right?
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Kid Cudi
Oh, this is nice. Okay, if you could have 100 of the same animal as a pet, what kind of pet would you pick?
Jimmy Fallon
100 of them.
Kid Cudi
Oh, you have to have 100.
Jimmy Fallon
I have to have a hundred.
Kid Cudi
I have to have a hundred already.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm upset. I mean, I do love my dog, Gary, but I don't know if he'd do 100 puppies. No way. I would say no. What are those, little shrimp? Sea monkeys. All right, 100 sea monkeys. I'll go with that one.
Kid Cudi
All right, here we go.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't want 100. Wait, Pete, you know what that sound means?
Kid Cudi
No, I don't.
Jimmy Fallon
It's time for our final round. Let's rotate the board. This is the final round. Now, this one, we each throw an ax, and whoever gets closer to the bullseye wins. Okay. And gets to ask the last question. This. We polled the audience before the show and this was the most asked question. Who's the most famous person in your phone? And send them a selfie.
Kid Cudi
All right.
Jimmy Fallon
Ooh. I kind of want to know this. All right, here we go.
Kid Cudi
Your phone's stacked. No, I got four people that still talk to me. Started off hot.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, no. All right, you go first. I'll throw first. All right, you go in the circle of safety. Oh, good. And I will take this. I'm just going for the bullseye, right? No big deal. I just want to see it. They want to see it. They just want to see it. Come on. They want to see it. Grow them up. Okay, who is the most famous person in. Let's take a selfie first. Okay. All right. Of my ax.
Kid Cudi
I love selfies.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. All right, now send that to someone.
Kid Cudi
He's gonna be like, what is this?
Jimmy Fallon
No. Yeah. For real? Yeah. Hold on.
Kid Cudi
Let me preface it. I was told to send you this while I was on tv, against my will.
Jimmy Fallon
Hey, say hi to Kevin Costner, everybody. That's Kevin Costner. That's right, the cops. That's the only time you ever asked me anything. My thanks to Pete Davidson. Stick around. We'll be right back with more tonight, everybody. Our next guest is a Grammy winner, multi platinum selling artist whose new album, free, comes out August 22nd. And he has written a memoir called Cudi, which is out August 12th. Everyone, please welcome Kid Cudi. Welcome back, Kid Cudi. Welcome back to the show. Thanks for being here. Thanks for having me, man. You got a big summer, bud. You have a new album free, and you have a memoir. This is happening. Let's talk about this. Oh, before we talk about this, please, Because I met her backstage. You got married?
Pete Davidson
Yes, I did.
Jimmy Fallon
Congratulations. Your beautiful wife. I met your beautiful wife Lola backstage. Here's a photo of you guys on the wedding day.
Kid Cudi
Where.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow. Gorgeous. Where is this? Where'd you get married?
Pete Davidson
In the south of France. In Eze.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, of course you did. Of course you did. Come on. It's gorgeous. And did you have good music?
Pete Davidson
Yeah, we did. We had bad. Bad. Not good. Perform. And they were the band playing when me and Lola first met. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. You're romantic. Come on. You're romantic. And how's married life? You love it?
Pete Davidson
Oh, I love it. It's fantastic. But we already been acting like we've been married for forever, so it's kind of like, you know, nothing really changed. It's still awesome.
Jimmy Fallon
That's so good. That's so fun. But let's talk about the memoir. Why now, why, at this point in your career?
Pete Davidson
Oh, man, I feel like I've just been on one hell of a journey, and I felt like it was important to kind of tell my story because people have kind of, you know, seen or heard bits and pieces of it in the tabloids and, you know, things like that. And I just kind of wanted to. To, you know, inspire and bring people in on the ride and let people know about some of my struggles and things that I've overcame.
Jimmy Fallon
There's a lot of things in here that a lot of people don't know about you.
Pete Davidson
Yeah. I mean, you read this book, you will truly understand why I am the man I am today.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. That's cool that you did it. And I was telling you. Yeah, I can't wait. Cause I'm like, you know how I'm a fan, so I want to know everything. But then I was telling you, yo, I love the COVID man. Who did this? And you were like, me? You painted this?
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
How long have you been painting?
Pete Davidson
I started painting in November last year.
Jimmy Fallon
Some guys have all the luck, man.
Pete Davidson
I always wanted to paint, and I just thought it was such a difficult thing to do, but I just went after it, and, you know, I mean, it's kind of.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, they're gorgeous. Paint. Do you have a bunch of them?
Pete Davidson
Yeah, there's like, maybe six in the book, and that's, like, my little character Max that I have in. In there.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And where do they go?
Pete Davidson
They all kind of deal with, like, my personal struggles from back in the.
Jimmy Fallon
Day, and.
Pete Davidson
Some of them are a little disturbing. Yeah, well, I didn't put the most disturbing ones in the book.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, but, yeah, it's almost therapeutic, I guess.
Pete Davidson
Yeah. I just put on some music, and I just get in there and throw some paint on the canvas.
Jimmy Fallon
But this one pops. I love it. And then I like also the back cover. Is that. I'm assuming that's. That's. That's. Baby, you.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, that's me sleeping. Dreaming about my future, wanting to be a famous actor and a musician. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And you did it, bud.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And you did. All starts with the dream, right? I guess you'll find out when you read this book.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
In fact, last night, I saw you at The Happy Gilmore 2 premiere.
Pete Davidson
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
We can tell everybody that you're actually in this movie.
Pete Davidson
Yes, I am in this movie for Blink. And you miss me.
Jimmy Fallon
No, you won't. Dude, how did the role come about? And did you know Sandler before this?
Pete Davidson
Yo, I've never met Adam before. This. But he's kind of indirectly helped me out in my career. Like, I've sampled his voice on my albums before, and he's always cleared it it. So, like, when he's the best dude. Yeah, he's super cool. And, you know, I found out about the movie just like everyone. It was on social media, and I took a screenshot and sent it to my agent, and I was like, I need to be in this movie. And it just so happens that the director, Kyle Neulachek, was a fan of mine, and he had been wanting to work with me. So as soon as we reached out, he was like, all right, we'll try to find something. A couple months went by, and they said, I think we have something for you.
Jimmy Fallon
So it's the funniest thing, and there's a thousand cameos in there, but when you came out, the whole place erupted. It was like, rah. It is awesome. I don't want to spoil it, but it's worth it. It's so good. Check out Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix this Friday. And then, so you're in movies, you have a memoir. You're in Happy Gilmore 2, which will be one of the biggest movies of this summer. And then let's talk about your new album, Free. Talk about another great cover.
Pete Davidson
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Man, I love this. Tell me about this. What inspired this?
Pete Davidson
Well, actually, it's inspired by a line in one of the songs on the album. Literally, the line is walking through the clouds out a blue door. And I was inspired by this whole jumping into this space and being free. And I thought that this. When we did the photo shoot, I just saw this image, and I was like, man, this is a perfect representation of what the album cover is. And, like, when you do these shoots, you don't really know. You know, you're not really in your mind. You're not thinking like, oh, this is gonna be the album cover, or this is gonna be the album cover. Like, you know, you kind of just go and shoot a bunch of stuff, and you look at everything and you make a decision, and that's kind of how this happened. It was just kind of like it was a perfect representation of what the album.
Jimmy Fallon
You didn't know what it was gonna be called. Did you know it was gon.
Pete Davidson
No, I knew it was gonna be called Free.
Jimmy Fallon
And so you did a bunch of different photo shoots, things that might be represented. Yeah, yeah. This one's like. This is the one. This. Yeah, it's almost got a little Truman show vibe.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, Yeah. I was totally Inspired by the Truman show with this.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah. And Jim Carrey and just kind of like, yeah, this is Now I'm Free. It's a different sounding album.
Pete Davidson
Yeah, it's a pop album.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean. Yeah, yeah, it's really good. You can sing, like, ooh, yeah. Good. That's what you want, right? You want to always change, Always doing something different.
Pete Davidson
Yeah. I like to take the Bowie approach, you know, Like, I like to switch it up and try new things or I get bored, you know?
Jimmy Fallon
Yep.
Pete Davidson
Cause making music is too easy for me. I just. It's so easy that I have to challenge myself. You know, people are like, you know, why don't you just be on man on the Moon 10 right now.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Pete Davidson
But I'm just like, man, I gotta keep challenging myself. I gotta keep pushing it. And I will say that I think since 2020, I've been kind of playing it safe and kind of making music what I thought people would want to hear. And then with this, I was like, let me get back to the real way. I used to make albums, which was like, let me make something for me. Let me make what I think is dope. And hopefully people are into it.
Jimmy Fallon
I always. I'm a fan, but I always love running into you. But that was the best. Last night went nuts. Everyone went crazy that I got to see you afterwards. My God, you're the. You're the best, buddy. Thank you so much, Kid Cudi, everybody. His memoir, Cudi, is out August 12th. Stick around, everybody Trying to get a.
