Steve Higgins
And now, here he is.
Jimmy Fallon
Give me. Come on now. That's how you do it. Love you. Hey, looking good, looking good. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. Well, I want to start off by wishing everyone A happy St. Patrick's Day. Oh, yeah, that's right. People getting lit on a Monday morning for one day, everyone gets to feel what it's like to be a pilot for Southwest. It's amazing. It's really great. That's right. Nothing says celebrating a saint like watching a drunk guy put a plastic green. Do you know what I'm saying? Of course, they also celebrated in Washington D.C. over at the White House, they dyed the fountain green. Take a look at this. Yeah, it's a way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and all the money people lost on Tesla stock. Really thoughtful. Meanwhile, everyone's excited about this. March Madness is officially here now. People are filling out their brackets, including the President.
Steve Higgins
Really?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Check out this video Trump released.
Donald Trump
Okay, time to pick my beautiful perfect bracket. Let's see. Marquette versus New Mexico. New Mexico will win, but only if we rename it New America. Yukon versus Oklahoma. Gotta go Yukon. That's what people shouted at me on the street. Bayou versus Vaquu. I'll go Bayou. But I was close to going vacu. Purdue versus High Point. My high point was when Elon let me drive his Tesla. They win. Oregon versus Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Does the EMU play on the team? If so, they win. Kansas versus AR Kansas. Similar names. This is a toughie. I'll go with A.R. kansas. Alabama versus Robert Morris. The whole team versus one guy. That's not fair. Alabama wins. And finally, Drake versus Missouri. Drake wins, but loses in round two against Kendrick La Barr University.
Jimmy Fallon
There you go. He's making his pick very interesting. Speaking of Trump, he said he plans to talk to Vladimir Putin tomorrow about the possible ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. And Trump said that they will spend the meeting dividing up certain assets. Trump was like, he'll take Ukraine. I'll get Canada. We'll alternate weekends on Greenland. Listen to this. A French politician has demanded that the US return the Statue of Liberty cuz the Trump administration is siding with the tyrants. Yeah, France wants the Statue of Liberty back, while Canada's like, well, in that case, we're coming to get Ryan Gosling. That's right. We're gonna. We're taking him back. Give him back. We need Ryan Gosling. Did you guys see this? Apparently Elon Musk has been forced to halt cybertruck deliveries cuz parts keep falling off. It's never good when your $80,000 car sheds. Well, get this. I read that Forever 21 is going out of business and they blame. They're placing the blame on companies like temu. You know something's wrong when you're like, we can't compete with the quality of temu. Some more business news. Hasbro said that they're trying to get teenagers and adults to buy more of their toys. Yeah, it's cool. The new Optimus prime transforms into a vape pen. And finally, guys, today is St. Patrick's Day, as I said earlier. So I thought I'd take a minute to clear up what's Irish and what only sounds Irish. Thank you. Here we go. Oh, a lot of things are Irish Just based on name alone? McCormick and McDonald's they both kiss the blarney stone? Bennigan's Aer Lingus, yeah, they both play their part along with array oh, oh, oh O'Reilly's Auto Parts but other things aren't Irish despite the name they keep so poor little Baileys While I tell you what I Oprah and Ohio and you can't forget o'clock Oklahoma. OMG and Obama, Barack Oasis and Obi Wan Both have that British swagger But neither of them's Irish and neither is Mick Jagger? OpenAI ozone layer nor any tennis open. Mickey Mouse ain't Irish, no, and neither is Hulk Hogan but you can be in Onlyfans or play in the Olympics but they're about as Irish as you shooting up Ozempic. Guinness doesn't mix with Oreos or ocean spray, but we don't care. Enjoy our fair and happy St Patrick's Day. We have a great show tonight. Give it up for the Roots, everybody. Oh, what a show we have for you tonight. He is a very talented actor who's making his directorial debut with the film Eric Larue, which opens in theaters April 4th. Michael Shannon is here tonight. Great actor, great performer, great singer, but what a great director. He's getting rave reviews for this movie. Eric LaRue. Congratulations, Michael Shannon. And he's on the show tonight. Everyone. Everyone on our show tonight is hitting home runs. I mean, she is amazing. She stars in season three of the hit series the White Lotus. New episodes air Sundays on HBO and stream on Max. Leslie Bibb is joining us. Crushing she is so good. In White Lotus, he portrays Jesus in the series the Chosen. Part one of the Chosen Last Supper debuts in theaters nationwide March 28th. Jonathan Roumie is here tonight. We're going to talk about that. They're releasing the show in theaters. Wow. And then going to like Amazon prime video or something, which has not really been done before. And I think on Easter or around Easter at one point, I think the whole like maybe eight hours of the show is going to be in theaters. So you can make it a full on. Don't leave the theater. Oh, yeah. Just hang out, get together and just watch a full eight hours of. Yeah. It's unbelievable. Yeah. And we got stand up from one of my favorite comedians on the planet. The very funny Nick Thune is here tonight. He's one of the best. Born young. Born Young is the name of the comedy special. It's streaming now on the Naetland YouTube channel. Born young Nick Thune. Gosh, he's brilliant. Guys, today's Monday and of course you know what that means. It's time for tonight's show trivia night. I'm excited. Tonight's show trivia night. I'm excited about this. I mean, I love all our guests. I love Nick Thune. Went on tour with Nick Thune.
Steve Higgins
You did?
Jimmy Fallon
I did. Went on tour with Nick Thune, Nate Bargetzi, Julian McCullough and Seth Herzog. We had a great tour. And I love this dude. He's one of my all time favorites. Then I'm also excited for tonight's show trivia night. Really? I cannot wait for this. You can't wait for it? Yeah. I think the audience loves it. Yeah. The electricity.
Steve Higgins
I can feel it.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, they want to see what happens. I'm excited to see what happens. How does the game work?
Steve Higgins
Well, here's how it works, Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Steve Higgins
To test your knowledge on a wide variety of topics, I'm going to ask you a series of trivia questions. And all you have to do is answer correctly.
Jimmy Fallon
That's all I have to do is answer correctly. I love trivia. I don't love getting them right. I love getting them wrong because at least I learned something.
Michael Shannon
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You know, that's true.
Steve Higgins
That's what they say. You live in your life.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, but I'm going to get these right.
Steve Higgins
Are you ready for your first question?
Jimmy Fallon
Here we go.
Steve Higgins
Okay. What does the final four refer to?
Jimmy Fallon
The Final Four.
Steve Higgins
Final Four?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, the final four teams in the NCAA tournament. Ooh. No. Wrong.
Steve Higgins
It's the last remaining employees working in the Federal government. That's the final four. I could see why.
Jimmy Fallon
You're right. That's what it was.
Steve Higgins
Okay, you're gonna get this one. Finish this phrase.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Steve Higgins
It cost an arm and a leg. No, an egg.
Donald Trump
Close.
Jimmy Fallon
They're very expensive.
Steve Higgins
Those are very expensive.
Jimmy Fallon
They're very expensive right now.
Leslie Bibb
Yes, it is.
Steve Higgins
All right, Ready? You're gonna get this one.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, here we go.
Steve Higgins
What is the number one question that mystifies scientists? Number one question.
Jimmy Fallon
Mystify science. Is there life on another planet?
Steve Higgins
Oh, no. Why does Meghan Markle make her own pretzel bags?
Jimmy Fallon
They don't know why. That's interesting. She takes it from one bag and puts it in another bag. That confuses people.
Steve Higgins
They don't know why.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, understood.
Steve Higgins
Ready?
Jimmy Fallon
Understood. Yep.
Steve Higgins
Complete this famous song time.
Jimmy Fallon
So far, I'm not doing well.
Steve Higgins
No, no, you're doing quite badly. You've got not gotten one right.
Jimmy Fallon
All right. I still having fun. Because I'm learning.
Steve Higgins
Because you learn. Every day. You learn.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Steve Higgins
You're curious.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Steve Higgins
You're going to get this one, though.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you. You said that last time.
Steve Higgins
Well, I thought you would, but you did not. You got it wrong. You might get this one.
Jimmy Fallon
Did I disappoint you, buddy?
Jonathan Roumie
You know what?
Steve Higgins
I'm proud of you every day.
Jimmy Fallon
Ah.
Steve Higgins
Doesn't matter what you do.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you so much.
Steve Higgins
Happy St. Patrick's Day.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you.
Steve Higgins
Complete this famous song title.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Steve Higgins
Signed, sealed, delivered. No. Wrong. Left out in the rain by Amazon for six hours and stolen by a guy in your ring.
Jimmy Fallon
I didn't know that song.
Nick Thune
Close.
Steve Higgins
All right, ready? You're gonna get this one.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, this is the final question.
Steve Higgins
Yeah, you're gonna get this.
Jimmy Fallon
I am.
Steve Higgins
What children's classic from the 1930s is returning this week?
Jimmy Fallon
Snow White.
Steve Higgins
No measles.
Jimmy Fallon
Ah. Well, I'll try again next week. That's all the time we have. Stick around. We'll be right back with Michael Shannon, everybody. I gotta get better at trivia. Our first guest is an Oscar, Emmy and Tony nominated actor making his directorial debut with the film Eric LaRue, which opens in theaters April 4th. Please welcome Michael Shannon. That's for me. That's not for you. That's for me. Michael Shannon, welcome back. Oh, my gosh. I love having you on the Tonight Show.
Leslie Bibb
Thanks for having me.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, thanks. And this is your. This is your 14th appearance on our show.
Leslie Bibb
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. We really love having you on the show.
Leslie Bibb
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. And you seem excited. I mean, are you so excited? St. Michael Shannon. So it's like St. Patrick's Day. Are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day, Michael Shannon?
Leslie Bibb
No. No, I'm not.
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Leslie Bibb
I'm sorry. Yeah, I should be, I guess, but. Yeah, I was in Chicago over the weekend. They actually were celebrating on Saturday. I guess celebrate means just wandering mobs of drunk people just stumbling all over each other. And I'm sure St. Patrick was looking down, his heart full of pride, swelling with.
Jimmy Fallon
Swelling with pride. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Of all those drunk people. Yeah. Yeah. So not. Not a big fan of that holiday.
Leslie Bibb
Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I'm. Holidays in general. I'm not. Yeah, I'm. I'm kind of a curmudgeon, basically. Yeah. Sorry.
Jimmy Fallon
Believable.
Leslie Bibb
I'm sorry.
Jimmy Fallon
No, don't be. Don't apologize.
Leslie Bibb
I'll work on it.
Jimmy Fallon
No, that's what makes you you, you know. Yeah.
Leslie Bibb
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You're different than me, and that's why we get along. Opposites attract.
Donald Trump
Oh.
Jimmy Fallon
I'll tell you what we do have in common.
Leslie Bibb
What?
Jimmy Fallon
We Both celebrated our 50th birthday.
Leslie Bibb
Oh, my God. Really? Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Happy birthday to you Happy birthday to you.
Leslie Bibb
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you. Does 50. Does 50 mean anything different to you, or is 50 just a normal birthday?
Leslie Bibb
Well, everybody's saying, you know, nowadays that 50 is the new 30 or something. Right? Like, because everybody's living longer now. Yeah, they are, because of all the medical technology, if you have access to it. But.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, but 50 is the new 30. You think that. Do you feel like a 30 year old?
Leslie Bibb
Well, I don't know. I.
Jimmy Fallon
Or a 50 year old who people are calling 30?
Leslie Bibb
I. I'm so preoccupied with so many other things that my own age doesn't tend to be one of them. But I was just doing this tour and I was singing this song called Little America, an R E M song. And the first line of the song is, I can't see myself at 30. And I was singing that every night. And sometimes I would preface it by saying, by the way, I'm 50.
Jimmy Fallon
That's interesting.
Leslie Bibb
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. But, you know, when you're kind of younger, I guess you can't. 30 seems old, right?
Leslie Bibb
It does, it does. But now I was just with my sister last night in Chicago and we were celebrating her 60th birthday. So I was like, well, she's an ancient. You know, that's the problem.
Jimmy Fallon
The last time you're. This tour that you're talking about, you're on tour, you're performing all of REM's third album. Was it.
Leslie Bibb
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Fables of the Reconstruction with Jason Narduzzi.
Leslie Bibb
Yeah, Jason Narducci.
Jimmy Fallon
And you guys came on our show.
Leslie Bibb
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
And it was one of the best performances of this year. We loved it, and the audience loved it. Thank you so much for coming on. Rushed it. It was so good.
Leslie Bibb
I mean, I was real nervous.
Jimmy Fallon
Were you really?
Leslie Bibb
I was, yeah. Because that was the first. We hadn't started the tour yet, so that was literally the first time I was performing in front of people since the last tour. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Did we talk that show or did you just perform?
Leslie Bibb
I just performed, so there was no, like, coaxing me into it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, like the curtain. Yeah. Like, hey, do you mind if we have a microphone here? Do you mind giving us a shot?
Leslie Bibb
Yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
But you watched it and you got a little thumbs up from Mike Mills.
Leslie Bibb
From REM he was very sweet. Yes. He. He texted afterwards and he said, I.
Jimmy Fallon
Just say, that's unbelievable.
Leslie Bibb
He's a very.
Jimmy Fallon
Mills. One of the greatest. He's a legend. But then you go on tour, you get a message from Mike Millsen. Hey, good job. And then you go on tour, and guess who shows up? The whole band?
Leslie Bibb
The whole band.
Jimmy Fallon
Michael Stipe gets on stage with you. Are you kidding me? Yeah.
Leslie Bibb
This was, I believe, at the 40 watt club. This was the first night we were at the 40 watt club. He came up and he said, now, I still want you to sing the lead. I'm just going to harmonize. And then Friday night, the second night, he came up and he said, tonight, I'm taking the lead. I said, you Go right ahead, Mr. Stipe.
Jimmy Fallon
Is that right? In Athens, Georgia.
Leslie Bibb
And then he sang with us here in New York in Brooklyn when we played Brooklyn Steel.
Jimmy Fallon
Is he not one of the coolest people you've ever met?
Leslie Bibb
He is. I mean, all four of them are.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, they really are. But Michael, as a. As a front man, as a lead singer, he comes. He's just very quiet. He's very. Just kind of talks very innocent.
Leslie Bibb
Yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Funny. But he's very. Just quiet like that. And then he'll just rage and go crazy. You're like, you just hulked out. What happened, dude? Like, you were just so nice and quiet. And now he's in front of a crowd, and he just. He's just amazing.
Leslie Bibb
What's passion? You know, the song he was singing when he sang with us was Pretty Persuasion, which is a song that means a great deal to him. And he said he really. It really meant a lot to him to be singing it now in the current climate in which we live. So I think it's like an anthem for him. So he really. He was really powerful.
Jimmy Fallon
I know how much you love REM So it must have been unbelievable for you. But this is good that you did it. If you didn't do that, that would. This moment wouldn't have happened. The way life works, huh?
Leslie Bibb
Yeah. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
He's.
Leslie Bibb
He's. I don't know. We're gonna do it again next year, so we'll see what happens.
Jimmy Fallon
You are?
Leslie Bibb
Yeah. We're going to do. I think we're going to do Life's Rich Pageant next year. I mean, I shouldn't be saying this. Maybe we haven't. We haven't like, made the tour schedule or anything, but at all the stops along the way, we would ask people.
Jimmy Fallon
If they thought going in order of albums.
Leslie Bibb
Yeah, well, it's just the, you know, the 40th anniversary scenario contest.
Jimmy Fallon
I would like to see Monster. I think that's my favorite album.
Leslie Bibb
That would be quite a few years. We'd have to keep this going to get to Monster because we got Leisure.
Jimmy Fallon
Spad Documents is the new 40.
Leslie Bibb
Yeah, right.
Jimmy Fallon
We got time, man.
Leslie Bibb
When I'm 70, I'll be doing the last album.
Jimmy Fallon
Exactly. We'll still be young. We'll still be. Yeah. It'd be amazing. I want to talk about your movie. By the way, Eric LaRue, congratulations on this. This is your directorial debut. We talked about this a couple times. When you're on the show because you're getting into work on it, you dedicate a lot of your time. It's not easy to direct a film.
Leslie Bibb
Yes. And you make this much money.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah. You've got to do it from love in your heart. That's the only reason to do it. There's no real other reason to do it. Tell your story. Did you find it difficult?
Leslie Bibb
I was so nervous about doing it. It was something I was always. I swore up and down I would never do it. It always looked too stressful to me. And then I did it and it was one of the most satisfying things I've ever done.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Leslie Bibb
Yeah, I. I loved it to smithereens.
Jimmy Fallon
I think you would be amazing to be get directed by Michael Shannon. I told you already, I loved. There's some shots.
Leslie Bibb
Jimmy, take it down. Really? Okay. Not.
Jimmy Fallon
Sorry.
Leslie Bibb
Okay. Think about.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah.
Leslie Bibb
You remember that time your mother humiliated you in public?
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, Are we rolling about that? Yeah. Are we rolling? Yeah, I got this. I got this. All right.
Leslie Bibb
Good, good. And action. Okay, cut.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm sorry. I just, you know, I was Thinking.
Leslie Bibb
Of a joke earlier.
Jimmy Fallon
That's amazing. I just got directed by Michael Shannon. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's fun. It was just as much fun as I thought it would. Was it? Yep. It was just as much fun as I thought it'd be. This. This film is. It's pretty poignant, but it's also a very topical story and it's tough. A tough story to tackle.
Leslie Bibb
It is.
Jimmy Fallon
How do we set up this film?
Leslie Bibb
Well, I mean, in one sense, it's fairly straightforward. It's the parents of a boy, Eric Larue, who commits a school shooting. When the film starts, he's already. The trials happen. He's in prison. And you just see the parents in that lingering aftermath of trying to get on with their lives, you know, after what their son has done and how difficult that is for them.
Jimmy Fallon
Judy Greer plays the mom, and man, oh, man, what a knockout performance.
Leslie Bibb
She's a genius. I mean, she's funny as all get out, but I'm really excited for people to see this side of her.
Jimmy Fallon
Michael Shannon, everybody. Eric Larue opens in theaters April 4. Leslie Bibb joins us after the break. Stick around, everybody. Must be a half man. Jenna, half Mandela. My band about 70 strong. Just like fella. Gold points on my eyes while I bend down. Now pulling back up. About to act up.
Steve Higgins
Better back up.
Jimmy Fallon
Our next guest is a very talented actress who stars in season three of the White Lotus. New episodes debut Sundays on HBO and stream on max. Please welcome Leslie Bibb. Oh, my gosh. You are in big trouble.
Nick Thune
Why?
Jimmy Fallon
Because you're so good in White Lotus. You are amazing. And last time we were here, we couldn't really talk about it. Oh, my God.
Nick Thune
We couldn't talk about it. You asked me. Cause I was like, you're like, I.
Jimmy Fallon
Just got back from Thailand. Nevermind.
Nick Thune
Never mind.
Jimmy Fallon
You couldn't talk about it.
Nick Thune
HBO's sitting there like, we made you sign the NDA.
Jimmy Fallon
It's out now and people are loving you. You're crushing it. You're crushing the game. Leslie Biff, the best. It's so good. It's so good. Does it feel like I can't? No. Does it feel relief not to have a secret like that anymore?
Nick Thune
Well, that's a huge relief. We're friends with Seth, and I saw him and I was like, did you watch this past episode? Cause my partner's in it, and it kind of was a surprise, and I had to lie about it, and I'm a terrible liar.
Jimmy Fallon
You don't lie. You're a very honest person.
Nick Thune
When I lie, I do this. I just start looking down. But yeah, we couldn't tell anybody. That's why we'd come back. And people were like, did Sam come? And I was like, uh huh. He came. Came for. Yeah, he came for a couple days.
Jimmy Fallon
And just slowly back out of the room. You're like, I don't know, maybe he was there.
Nick Thune
I was like a weirdo.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't know what's going on.
Nick Thune
Come out. Hello.
Jimmy Fallon
Everyone is fantastic in this. Mike White, obviously, but every. The whole cast. But you are crushing it. Every scene. I just don't want. I can't get enough of you. You're so great and so funny and so many good moves and bits and faces and reactions and it's good. There's one, this Daily Beast article came out, said, give Leslie Bibbs White Lotus Smile a special Emmy Award. It is so condescending that it says a lot.
Nick Thune
It says a. She's saying a lot.
Jimmy Fallon
She's saying a lot right there. Yes.
Nick Thune
Oh, Kate Bore. She's saying a lot.
Jimmy Fallon
You're so good. Did you practice this smile?
Nick Thune
Somebody asked me that and I was like, no, you can't do it. What are you like. That's the craziest thing. And you gotta get. That would be nuts. Cause then you'd be waiting like, I'm gonna do the face with the face.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, that's true. Yeah, yeah. It's like, drumroll, please let me do the face. I'm not doing it. I don't have a special face. Yeah.
Nick Thune
I don't even know when somebody said that. I haven't watched the show yet. And so.
Jimmy Fallon
Wait till you see it. It's fantastic.
Nick Thune
I know. I'm so. So somebody asked me to do it.
Jimmy Fallon
And I was like, oh, you watch the show? Do you not like seeing yourself or are you just.
Nick Thune
Well, there's two things. I'm a bit critical of myself. So I'll be a jerk to myself.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. So why do that? Yeah.
Nick Thune
Do you like looking at yourself?
Jimmy Fallon
Absolutely. Sure. I'd watch it right now if I could. Yeah, I would. I wonder if I can get it online. Is it on Peacock?
Nick Thune
It is on Peacock.
Jimmy Fallon
No, I don't like watching myself at all. Right.
Nick Thune
And you sit there.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't mind it. I don't mind. You don't mind it? No, I don't mind if it's on. It's not like I go to a.
Nick Thune
Do you watch yourself if, like the tv? If you're like, here comes one of the movies I've done.
Jimmy Fallon
No, I was only in one movie, so I don't have that problem. I got to really work at it. If I'm accidentally walking in on a movie of mine, it's like, honey, you downloaded this. I'm like, I know, but what? I can't believe it's on. Whatever. Just let it play. Just let it play.
Nick Thune
Hey, let's watch it all the way through.
Jimmy Fallon
Let's watch it again. Let's see the nuance there. Look at my smile there. Yeah. No, but this. What's the other reason?
Nick Thune
The other reason is because it is so dreamlike, this whole experience with the White Lotus. I've never experienced anything like this. And the response has been so incredible, and I've never really had that like that. And it's. It feels like a dream, and it feels like if I watch it, it'll all be over. So it feels like I don't want the bubble to burst or I don't want the balloon to pop. So it's like if I keep it over here, it's like a cake that I'm gonna eat sometime, but I'm just gonna wait and look at it from afar.
Jimmy Fallon
You just want to eat it?
Nick Thune
And then I'll eat it later when everybody else is done and it's all over. And then I'll be like, oh, remember when I was in Thailand?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, but.
Nick Thune
Yeah, that's the only reason. I just. That and being a hole to myself and being like, what are you doing?
Jimmy Fallon
No, but I mean, you. And by the way, the ca.
Nick Thune
This is amazing, isn't it?
Jimmy Fallon
Michelle, Carrie, Coon, you guys together? How do you describe your friendship? Of the three?
Nick Thune
Do you know what Mike called us?
Jimmy Fallon
What?
Nick Thune
He goes. He calls us. He was like, oh, it's the blonde blob. Like, you couldn't. Like, we were always called the ladies, but he wanted it to feel like. Because they work in all these themes this year. And so, like, doppelgangers and mirrors of people. So that essentially, I think we say it in the show. We're like, oh, people used to confuse us when we were a kid. So he wanted it so that you didn't sort of know which one was which one. And he said. And I think this is true, that he was in Thailand writing the show, and he was at some. I think it was in Thailand, but he was at a resort somewhere, and he saw these three women who were vacationing together. And he said, I couldn't tell them apart except when one of them would leave and they'd all start talking about the Other one.
Jimmy Fallon
That's exactly what happened. That's what happened. It is genius because you're like, oh, my God, you look great. I love you. No, you look great. And then one of them leaves. You're like, she's going through a divorce. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Michael Shannon
Oh, my gosh.
Nick Thune
She's been hitting the scene.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Here you go. She's coming back. It's so.
Nick Thune
Well, I know.
Jimmy Fallon
It's just so well done, and you're just crushing it. I just so happy for you. And thanks for coming back. Leslie Bib, everybody. New episodes of the White Lotus debut Sundays on HBO and stream on Mac. You are chicken dinner. We'll be right back. Stick around, everybody.
Steve Higgins
You're chicken dinner.
Jimmy Fallon
One more pound. Our next guest is a talented actor who is known for his portrayal of Jesus in the series the Chosen. Part one of the Chosen Last Supper debuts in theaters nationwide March 28th and will launch on Prime Video in June. Everyone, please welcome Jonathan Roumie. It is a pleasure to meet you, and welcome to the show. Thank you for being here.
Jonathan Roumie
Thank you for having me.
Jimmy Fallon
This is epic.
Jonathan Roumie
So that's what it's like.
Jimmy Fallon
Now. It's all changed. Yeah. But you were telling me backstage that it's kind of full circle for you because you worked in this building. You were an intern 30 years ago.
Jonathan Roumie
I was an intern for Saturday Night Live.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow. Now you're a guest. Here you are on the Tonight Show.
Jonathan Roumie
I'm a guest with you, who was on Saturday Night Live. So it's really. It's a crazy full circle.
Jimmy Fallon
Wait, what seasons were you in?
Jonathan Roumie
So that was Will Ferrell's first season.
Jimmy Fallon
Ah.
Jonathan Roumie
And so great cast. Yeah. I worked in the research department. I got to work for guys like Norm MacDonald, rest his soul. I.
Jimmy Fallon
The greatest.
Michael Shannon
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
What do you remember? Do you remember anything or any hosts stick out in your brain? That was like, oh, that was cool.
Jonathan Roumie
You know, one of the things I do remember is seeing Chris Farley come back to visit.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, my gosh.
Michael Shannon
Of course.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Jonathan Roumie
So he had been gone for a couple of years, and he comes back to visit, and everybody was lined up to see Chris Farley because he. I mean, it was clear that he was beloved by everybody, staff, the whole thing. So you had, like, I think guys coming out from. From, like, the. The janitor closet, like, ah, you know, and they lined up. Everybody's lined up to see Chris, and.
Jimmy Fallon
He'S like, hey, George, how are ya? Good to see ya. Maria. Give me a hug.
Jonathan Roumie
Come on over here.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow.
Jonathan Roumie
And I just found myself in a Line of these people. And I thought, well, might as well. And he gets to me and I'm like, chris, oh my gosh, how are ya? He's like, hey, good to see ya.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. Just kept going. He did not know you, but he still idea.
Jonathan Roumie
But he treated me as if I was one of the. One of the family in the show. So.
Jimmy Fallon
See, that's what I'm talking about.
Jonathan Roumie
Unbelievable.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Come on. You'll never forget that story.
Jonathan Roumie
Never in my life.
Jimmy Fallon
You. A lot of people might know your voice because you were the voice on MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch.
Jonathan Roumie
Yes. Yes, there was.
Jimmy Fallon
Which. I love that show. I used to watch that all the time.
Jonathan Roumie
Yeah. For those who don't know, it was clay animated celebrities fight each other to the death in the most ridiculous ways. And they needed people to sound like the celebrities. And so I wrote a letter to the casting director and said, hey, I do impressions. Could I audition? And she gave me. She called me up and said, call this hotline and leave 60 seconds of your best impression. And at the time, I was going through a massive Marlon Brando phase. So I probably called her up and said, you know, this is Marlon Brando. I don't know if you need anybody.
Donald Trump
For your show or anything like that.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't know, maybe I could give it a shot. You tell me. Yeah. Who else did he do?
Donald Trump
Marlon Brando.
Jonathan Roumie
Ray Romano is a guy that I did a lot.
Jimmy Fallon
Love that guy.
Jonathan Roumie
Long Islander, myself as well, you know, so.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow.
Jonathan Roumie
And then, you know, I started playing around with the. I'm a huge fan of the musical impressions you do. I mean, first of all, let me just bow down to the great here.
Jimmy Fallon
Everybody. Now, they know your impressions.
Jonathan Roumie
Oh, no, look, Jimmy's impressions are amazing.
Jimmy Fallon
And so I started working on a little Bob Dylan.
Donald Trump
Oh, yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Here we go. Oh, my God. Itsy bitty spider rolled up the water spout. Oh, my God.
Jonathan Roumie
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank. Well, it came some dried a bowl of rain well, that itsy bitsy spider crawl right up back again and I'm telling you, man, that spider one in the end.
Michael Shannon
Yes.
Donald Trump
These rhymes.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you, Bob. Take it to the next. That's super fun. Ooh, I heard you do a little Michael McDonald, but your impression is different than normal. Michael McDonald. Michael McDonald.
Jonathan Roumie
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You know, it's from the movie Much.
Jonathan Roumie
Words, but it sounds.
Jimmy Fallon
He just. Yeah, that's fantastic.
Jonathan Roumie
I'm not saying anything.
Jimmy Fallon
You don't have to say any words. You just have to make sounds. Yeah.
Jonathan Roumie
Like, oh, Michael McDonald yeah, okay.
Jimmy Fallon
But thank you for doing those expressions. I appreciate that. Come on. That's how you do it. Fantastic.
Jonathan Roumie
And the register. The register just kept going higher and higher. I'm like, he doesn't sing that high, but I'm going for it anyway.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I'm doing it. Here you are. Congratulations on the Chosen. This is a giant hit. I just want to talk about this because it kind of started in a non traditional way. This is crowdfunded.
Michael Shannon
Crowdfunded.
Jonathan Roumie
We knew we were getting the possibility of making four episodes. We sold shares of stocks, a buck a share. And I got the call many years ago by creative genius Dallas Jenkins, who created and wrote the show and directs every episode of the show. And he said. And I'd worked with him before on a couple of short films, and he had this opportunity. He said, look, we're crowdfunding four episodes of a TV series about Jesus, historical drama. Probably not going to go anywhere. So you want to. You want to join us again? Because I had played Jesus for him on these short films.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Jonathan Roumie
And stock am I getting?
Jimmy Fallon
I said, yeah, I got two bucks.
Jonathan Roumie
I'm like, I got the sandals. I'll put them back on. We'll get four episodes. It'll be. At that point, it would have been the most episodes of television I'd ever worked on. I was like, yes, count me in. And then we shot those four episodes, and then the next thing we know, the trailer for those four episodes came out. People saw the trailer, and we were still trying to raise the money for the back half of the first season. And once they saw the trailer, the fundraising went like that. And then every season up until the fourth season, we would find a different way of crowdfunding. And so our fans, we've got the greatest fans in the world. They will go above and beyond, if there are any here.
Jimmy Fallon
Do you have any fans here? I mean, all over the world. All over the world. It's horrible. It's horrible. A global hit. I mean, here's you and the Pope, by the way.
Jonathan Roumie
I mean, just chilling, you know, it's just a pope.
Jimmy Fallon
Jonathan. Jonathan Roumie and the Pope. I mean, that's as big as.
Jonathan Roumie
You met the Pope.
Jimmy Fallon
I. I met the Pope. Did you make him laugh? The Pope? He's a fun pope.
Jonathan Roumie
He's a fun pope, but he laughed.
Jimmy Fallon
He laughed at me.
Jonathan Roumie
I told him I was playing Jesus and it's.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, that's not. Can't really laugh. Can't really laugh at that. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah. You told him that you were playing Jesus.
Jonathan Roumie
I did. I actually met him twice. So the first time that I met him was part of what is his Wednesday audience. So he was at an Applebee's. He was at an Applebee's. And I said, I love Diet Coke. Where'd you meet him? So I met him in the Vatican in his Wednesday morning audience. He gives. Like, he does the Mass and he gives. He meets. There's a line of people that have petitioned to try to meet him for whatever reason. There's sick children. There's people that are sick thinking they're Jesus, but actually playing Jesus for a TV show. So I said, I would love your prayers. I'm playing Jesus for a TV show that's going to be seen all over the world. It's actually been seen all over the world. And I could choose all the prayer I can get. And so he said, may you seek him, may you find him, and may he make you happy.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow.
Jonathan Roumie
And so Pope says that. Pope said that? Yeah. And I'm like, unbelievable. I'm good.
Jimmy Fallon
I think that's it.
Jonathan Roumie
That's a blessing.
Jimmy Fallon
I think it's unbelievable. So now you end up signing a deal to be streamed on tv.
Jonathan Roumie
You're on Amazon Prime.
Jimmy Fallon
You're on Amazon prime, but you're doing something that I don't think a series has done. You're releasing in theaters before it's on TV.
Jonathan Roumie
That's right.
Jimmy Fallon
Explain how this works.
Jonathan Roumie
So March 28th, we open nationwide and in Canada on screens for the first two episodes of season five, and then a week after that, we add the next three episodes. There's eight episodes in a season, so two weeks in, you're about five episodes that you can go watch. And then by the time we get to Easter weekend, as you were saying, you can watch the entire season if you want to. If you haven't seen any of it, you can binge watch the whole thing on Easter weekend. So it'll be in the theaters for about a month before it goes to Amazon Prime.
Jimmy Fallon
That is so cool. I always love something different and something new. And you're doing it.
Jonathan Roumie
It's absolutely epic. This season is going to be huge.
Jimmy Fallon
Jonathan roumie, everybody. Part one of the Chosen Last Supper debuts in theaters nationwide March 28 and will launch on Prime Video in June. We have Santa from Nick Thune after the break. Stick around, everybody. Our next guest has his comedy special Born Young, streaming now on the Naetland YouTube channel. Please welcome the very funny Nick Thune.
Michael Shannon
It's good to be home. I lived Here for three days five years ago. It's different. Things have changed. It's. I'm staying in the same building and just have all new neighbors. But I guess that's how hotels work. I was grocery shopping recently. I was in line. There were three people ahead of me. They all had one thing in common. I was right behind them emotionally, for whatever they needed. The woman at the front of the line, her items were getting rung up. It went from not owning to owning, like, so fast. And I'm watching all of her items, and I'm loving her items. And then some tortilla chips come up, and I think to myself, I bet salsa's coming pretty soon. But then there was no salsa, and her groceries were getting bagged. And I saw her have a moment where she looked back at the aisle, and then she looked at the employee. And then she said out loud to nobody, but also to everybody, she said, I forgot salsa. She looked back at the line. The two women in front of me looked at her like, well, there's always next time. But she saw me, and I gave her a look. I didn't say anything out loud, but with my eyes, I said, you got this, girl. And she started running. Now, the employee, what is she gonna do? She's stuck in a rock and a hard place. Are these her groceries? Now, she doesn't know. So she yells out to help her, maybe to speed up the process. She yells, it's in the sauce aisle. And I say, no, it's not. Salsa's not a sauce. It's in the chip aisle. That's actually something you did for us. So I started running, and I got down the chip aisle. I picked out mild salsa for her just based off her outfit. When I got back up, she was gone. They were helping the next customer, and I said to the clerk, what happened to salsa? And she said, she didn't make it back. We lost a great customer that day. This next song is about babies. I love babies. I love them. How do I know? Because I know. When I see a baby posted on Instagram, I get so excited. Somebody had a baby. Under the picture of the baby, they put the baby's name Nice right next to it. If we're lucky, they'll put the weight. But they don't always put the weight. It's like, just tell us. Don't make me DM you. But they post a photo of this baby, and what do you do? Do you like it? Not me. I love it. I love that picture. I take that photo, and I take that baby's name. And I get that baby a Gmail account right away. Just that baby's name@gmail.com with no underscores, no periods, no numbers. It's the way God, our last guest. That's the way God wanted Gmail to be pure. So now it's my baby Gmail. That's what I always say. I'm actually sitting on 47 baby Gmails right now. So, yeah, I think things are going pretty good. But I'm not a monster. I don't keep them forever. I hold on to them. Six months. Yeah, six months. That's about right. I let the family get home. I let them get a sleep schedule going. I let them feel like they're out of the woods for a second. And then on a Wednesday night around 8:30pm yeah, they're gonna get an email from their baby. It's a very simple email. No subject, all body, which is how I like my baby. And it just says, let me know when you want to talk money. Thank you very much. My name is Nick Thune.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, God. That is how you do it right there. Good to see you, bro.
