From Studio Six Feet, Rockefeller center, in the heart of New York City, Mr. Tonight show, starring Jimmy Fallon. Tonight join Jimmy and his guest, Finn Wolfhard. Martha Stewart. And featuring the legendary ruse crew. Two, two, three. And now, here he is, Jimmy Fallon. Ra. I love you. I love everybody. Enjoy yourself.
Welcome, everybody. Hey, everybody. Welcome, welcome. Welcome to the Tonight Show.
This is it. Thank you. Yeah.
Well, guys, it is such a festive time in New York City. Doesn't it feel great? It's absolutely freezing out there. It is so cold. It's so cold. Tourists are begging to be groped by the Times Square Elmo. It is so cold in New York. Hot dog vendors are now selling Vienna sausages.
It's cold. Wow.
It's cold. It is so cold in New York City. On my way into work, I saw a squirrel pouring hot cocoa on his nuts.
What?
Nothing, honey.
Really.
It is so cold in New York. I saw a Wall street stockbroker spooning with Zoran Mamdani.
And I go, wait a second.
That's insane. It's cold. Some political news here. President Trump is suing the BBC for $10 billion, claiming they edited his speech from January 6th in a misleading way. He was like, I'm taking this all the way to the leader of the British courts, Dumbledore. And he goes, Trump said that they made him look bad by editing one of his speeches. The BBC was like, trust us, if we want to make you look bad, we'd air the unedited speech. Some more news from Washington. In a new interview, White House Chief of staff Susie Wiles. Even though Trump doesn't drink, he has an alcoholic's personality, mostly. Cause you find him passed out in random places. That's. I don't know what Trump is gonna do with Susie Wiles, but he just changed her Secret Service code name to East Wing. Meanwhile, I read that Donald Trump Jr. Just got engaged.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Yep.
Jimmy Fallon
Trump was like, congrats. The third engagement is always the best. Speaking of Trump, he just announced that tomorrow night he'll deliver a primetime address to discuss his accomplishments over the past 11 months. So at least it'll be short. And that's.
That's.
Switching gears. Netflix just dropped the trailer for volume two of the final season of Stranger Things.
Yes.
Show is so awesome, but it's a little hard to keep up with the release schedule, I think. Check out this promo today.

It's just confusing. It's confusing.
I think on day date. Hey, get this. Woman just got reunited with her dog that went missing five years ago after it was found 2,300 miles away. The woman was thrilled while the dog was like, take a hint, Helen. Well, guys, tonight we have a very special treat. Right now we're being joined by an improv legend. He can take anything and turn it into a song. So please welcome the world famous musical improviser, Carl Schmertz, everybody.
Hey, nice to see you. Thank you, man. Carl, Great.
Carl Schmertz
Oh, no problem, Jimmy. I'm so happy to be here.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, now, Carl, you do musical improv, Is that right?
Carl Schmertz
That's right. It's absolutely right.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. So which means you could take any prompt and turn it into an original song on the spot.
Carl Schmertz
100%. Yeah. All I need is a name. Okay, so any name you got, audience. Just. Everybody just shout out your names. Okay, okay.
Jimmy Fallon
Got it, got it.
Carl Schmertz
I heard Nancy. Okay, let's do this.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Carl Schmertz
One and a, two and a. I'm.
Jimmy Fallon
Here with Nancy and we're having a.
Carl Schmertz
Ball Heading on down to the pizza stall Picked up my phone and gave her a call we'll meet all up at the pizza stall oh, give me a sign Slice. Oh, give me a slice Give me the za. But that's not all.
Jimmy Fallon
Give me a large oh, give me.
Carl Schmertz
A small and get on down to the pizza stall I just made that up.
Jimmy Fallon
Amazing. That was great, Carl. I heard you use the woman's name in there once. That was good. But I just. I just. What is it? What is a Pizza Stall? I never heard of that.
Come on.
Carl Schmertz
You know Pizza Stall, right? The place where the teenagers hang out and eat pizza?
Jimmy Fallon
Like a Pizza Hut or something?
Sure, sure.
Carl Schmertz
Whatever they want to do.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, this next one, maybe you can say the person's name a few more times instead of just saying it once.
Carl Schmertz
Oh, okay, okay. No, sure, sure.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah.
Carl Schmertz
Let's get another name. Anybody?
Jimmy Fallon
Okay, I got it. I got it.
Carl Schmertz
I got it.
Jimmy Fallon
Carol.
Carl Schmertz
Got it. One and a two and. I'm with Carol. And I'm here to tell y' all we're heading on down to the pizza. Not to the movies, not to the mall. We'll meet all down at the Pizza Stall. Give me a drink and give me a straw. But we're all teens, so no alcohol. Drinking underage is against the law. I get my buzz at the Pizza Stall with Carol.
Jimmy Fallon
Can we please forget about pizza stalls? I don't even know.
What is your problem?
Carl Schmertz
What is your problem? You have with pizza stalls?
Jimmy Fallon
I just. I don't know what they. Dude, I don't know. Maybe for this next one, you see him on something else.
Unidentified Audience Member
Of course, of course.
Carl Schmertz
I'm sorry. I lost my head there for a second. I can do anything. That's the magic of improv, you know? All right, here, here. Let's make it even trickier. You'll like this. Okay, for a challenge, can I get someone's full name? Oh, okay.
Jimmy Fallon
I got it, I got it. I got it.
Carl Schmertz
I heard Lisa Paul.
Jimmy Fallon
Here we go.
Carl Schmertz
One, two, three.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, stop. I'm already. No, I know. You're going to Lisa Paul with Pizza Stall, and I don't wanna.
Carl Schmertz
Ooh, that's good. I hadn't even thought of that. That's excellent. You're good at this. Okay, fine, though. What do you want me to sing about?
Jimmy Fallon
Anything, dude. After the holidays, Merry Christmas, Something like that.
Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah.
All right, let's do that.
Carl Schmertz
I just need to get one more name. One more name?
Jimmy Fallon
Seriously?
Okay. Got it. Got it.
Carl Schmertz
Up there in the hood. Rodney Christmas is here and Rodney's here, too A present for me and a present for you I opened it up and guess what I saw? I saw a $20 gift card to the Pizza Stall.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Carl Schmertz
Pizza Stall, Pizza stall let's all hang out at the Pizza Stall what? Pizza Stall. Pizza Stall. Let's all hang out at the Pizza Stall Everybody. Pizza Stall, Pizza Stall let's all hang out at the Pizza Stall all right, there he.
Jimmy Fallon
Carl Schmurtz, everybody.
Take care, Carl.
Finn Wolfhard
See you.
Jimmy Fallon
We'll be right back with Finn Wolfhard.
Our first guest is a very talented actor and musician whose latest album, Happy Birthday, is available now. You can also see him in the final season of Stranger Things, Volume 2, premieres Christmas Day and the finale premieres New Year's Eve on Netflix. Please welcome Finn Wolfhole.
Welcome back.
What else do you do that's gotta feel. Yeah, that's.
Finn Wolfhard
Feels pretty good.
Jimmy Fallon
It's gotta feel good.
Finn Wolfhard
What else do you do but stand there and just take it? I just. I had to just. I didn't know what to do, so.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Take the love in.
Finn Wolfhard
That's right.
Jimmy Fallon
And you give the love.
You give the love back. You've given us love for 10 years.
We gotta give a little back to you. But congratulations. I'm actually psyched them I'm holding your album.
Martha Stewart
I know.
Jimmy Fallon
It's real, bud.
Finn Wolfhard
It's real.
Jimmy Fallon
Happy birthday.
Finn Wolfhard
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, well, that's the name of the album, but also.
Finn Wolfhard
Oh, right. Yes, right.
Jimmy Fallon
When is your birthday?
Finn Wolfhard
It's on the 23rd and I'm turning 23. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Happy birthday. You told me that you got yourself a guitar or someone got you a guitar for your birthday when you were four.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah, my mom got me a guitar when I was four. But it's funny, it's really nice that you did that. But like, what four year old is some four year olds? I guess. Rip on guitar? I don't know.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, I don't think so.
Finn Wolfhard
I just stared at it for like four years and didn't touch it.
Jimmy Fallon
I was gonna say, what do you do at four?
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah, just like. Yeah, look at it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it's like art in your bedroom, I guess.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah. Well, it would be. I would brag about. I would go into school and be like. I'd play guitar and then I would just strum it with open strings and it wouldn't mean anything.
Jimmy Fallon
No, it mean nothing. And when did you start playing real songs? What music were you into?
Finn Wolfhard
I mean, the Beatles were the things that got me. The band that got me into everything.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I love them.
Yeah.
Finn Wolfhard
Help.
Jimmy Fallon
No way.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Help was your album.
Finn Wolfhard
That was my album. Yeah. And like I was so obsessed with it, I would play it over and over and over again. So bass was my first instrument because of Paul McCartney.
Jimmy Fallon
So my fave. He's my fave.
Finn Wolfhard
The best.
Jimmy Fallon
He's the coolest. But I was gonna bring up no connection. But I was gonna bring up your new project of what you just got to do came out today, actually.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You got to direct a video for George Harrison.
Finn Wolfhard
I did.
Jimmy Fallon
Of the Beatles.
Finn Wolfhard
I did, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
This is crazy.
Finn Wolfhard
I know.
Jimmy Fallon
You directed the video to Give me love, Give me peace on earth, Give me life. Come on. That's the greatest jam I know. How did you get around to doing this or get this opportunity?
Finn Wolfhard
It's like, it's a very odd turn of events, like the way that it came together. Name drop. Fred Armisen, who's a friend of yours?
Jimmy Fallon
I love Fred Armisen.
Finn Wolfhard
Fred Armisen, who I met very briefly in Los Angeles. We were talking about music and I had already known the. The Harrison family a little bit. Just like was already friendly with Them. And a week after meeting Fred, he gave me a text and was like, hey, they're having trouble. The Harrison estate are finding. Finding it hard to get a director for the Give Me a Love video. Like, would. Would you mind if I put your name in the.
Jimmy Fallon
In the ring? Yeah.
Finn Wolfhard
I was like, yeah, like, that's. That's something that's like, I. You can't pass up that opportunity. So I worked with an amazing group of young, young artists in Toronto and Canada, and they did a stop motion video. And it's sort of. It's George gardening and it's in his garden because gardening was a huge part of his life.
Jimmy Fallon
It's very George.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Finn Wolfhard
And so I wanted to make something that I feel like he would have. He would have liked. Obviously it's a weird thing because he's not around, but I think he would have loved it.
Jimmy Fallon
I watched it today. It just came out today, so it's on YouTube. Check it out. It's really great. Congratulations. Thank you so much.
Finn Wolfhard
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
That's crazy.
Finn Wolfhard
I know.
Jimmy Fallon
And here's your vinyl. The album is. Happy Birthday is out. It's your debut solo album. You've been coming on the show for 10 years.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Isn't that wild?
Finn Wolfhard
I know. Every horrible phase. No, every. Every puber. Every puberty phase.
Jimmy Fallon
No, no, no. You are always a good.
Come on.
You handled it so well. You're always cool as a cucumber, man.
Come on.
I appreciate that, dude.
Finn Wolfhard
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
You're a talented dude. Thank you. You're playing a song called Trailers After Dark.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
What's that one about?
Finn Wolfhard
That one's about. It was a really odd. I don't know if this is even a thing in America, but in Canada there would be this channel on cable that played around the clock. Just trailers, just trailers. It would just play new.
Jimmy Fallon
A movie trailer.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah. To me, that is the most. I don't know why that was a channel.
Jimmy Fallon
It's kind of a good idea.
Finn Wolfhard
It is a good idea. I would tune in, but that was a big thing. I would watch this movie that was all trailers. So I would watch that with my family. And then it kind of came. The inspiration came from that. And then I really didn't like the song actually until I actually started recording it. And I kind of. It was in like a folder for demos.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Finn Wolfhard
And I kind of skipped past it. My friend Kai, who was producing it, was like, what was that one? I was like, oh, that's just this one about this trailer. Like, it's not great. He Was like, no, let's listen to it. And then I saw it kind of through his eyes and he kind of added some things that really elevated it and became like one of my favorite songs on the album.
Jimmy Fallon
So how do you come up with this song? Do you hum it into your phone or.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah, hum it into my phone or like, I don't know, pick a guitar and just like, go for it. Yeah. Hold on for dear life.
Jimmy Fallon
I guess you recorded this in Chicago where your good friend, one of the coolest dudes, Joe Keery. Yeah, He's a big part of the music scene out there. I love that dude. Were you influenced by him at all? Did he?
Finn Wolfhard
Hugely, yeah. Joe is a huge influence for me and still is.
Jimmy Fallon
He's talented. His band's great.
Finn Wolfhard
His band's amazing. And he was like one of the first people that I ever knew that was actually in a band. Before the show, before Stranger Things came out, he was kind of a cool older brother. I was 12, he was 22. He was fresh out of being in a really cool psych rock band in Chicago and introduced me to a ton of music that I think really informed everything. And so, yeah, I wouldn't be here without Joe.
Jimmy Fallon
I love it. Come on. That's great, bud. So happy. I love this. Congratulations.
Finn Wolfhard
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Let's talk Stranger things. We gotta.
We gotta talk.
Finn Wolfhard
Let's do it.
Jimmy Fallon
It's great. We're in the middle of the fifth and final season. Volume one has broken all kinds of records for television and Netflix around the world already. This season's so massive, by the way. A lot of more action in this scene.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Do you have to train for all this stuff?
Finn Wolfhard
This is like, oh, yeah. You can tell by how huge I am.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes. Yes. Yeah, I was gonna say yes. I was gonna ask you, are you taking steroids?
Finn Wolfhard
But yes.
Jimmy Fallon
We'll get into that scandal later.
Finn Wolfhard
I got in a quick pump before this.
Jimmy Fallon
I know. Yeah, I can tell. You've got the best forearms in the business.
In the business.
Finn Wolfhard
That's what they say.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes, of course.
Finn Wolfhard
No, I mean, I basically, since high school, didn't really have a lot of physical activity, as you can see. And then season five, the duffer brothers texted me were like, hey, just to let you know, there's a one take scene that's three minutes long where you just have to run kind of nonstop. And the last time I did that in the show, it was just a casual scene where I had to run off camera and they made me do it 20 times and I almost puked.
Jimmy Fallon
Every time they're coming on tomorrow. The Duffer Brothers.
Finn Wolfhard
Oh, really?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Finn Wolfhard
Well, ask them, like, the Duffer Brothers, like, for them to get me to run and then be like, finn, like, why are you? Like, why are you sick? Like, that's not normal. Those guys could not run. It's like. I was like, you try.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you run.
Finn Wolfhard
You try. You do it. Once you try it, you get winded immediately. Yeah, but. No, but I'm glad that they. But I'm glad they gave me this opportunity to, like, make. To, like, I don't know, redeem myself. So, yeah, I, like, got this trainer to help me, like, not die while running, essentially.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
Does it inspire you? Are you going to get into running at all?
Finn Wolfhard
I stop the minute those cameras flip.
Jimmy Fallon
Never again will you run. Never again will I run or get on a bike. Like from the 80s.
Martha Stewart
Yeah.
Finn Wolfhard
The bike in the 80s. That. Yeah. My dad was a bike racer growing up, or he's a cyclist. And we had to ride bikes, obviously, from the show. And I remember first season.
Jimmy Fallon
He must have been proud.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah, he definitely was. Until I was like. Yeah. I told the other guys, I was like, my dad's a bike racer, so this should be pretty easy. And then I got on the bike and crashed into a tree. Immediately. Like, immediately.
Jimmy Fallon
Because 11 is on the back.
Finn Wolfhard
Nope, solo. Solo by myself.
Jimmy Fallon
How sad.
Finn Wolfhard
Yep.
Jimmy Fallon
That's ridiculous.
Finn Wolfhard
That's the kind of guy I am.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you are. Yes. Well, the last scene. You filmed the last scene, and you know it's the last scene. No spoilers, obviously. They call cut. What do you do? Do you start bawling immediately? Do you hide?
Yeah, hide.
Finn Wolfhard
Go into a corner and I hide. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. It's a really odd thing. I don't know. You know, you must have, at some point in your life. I don't know if, like, when you finished SNL or, like, it's a big moment of your life. Yeah. Like, transitioning from this, like, really tentpole thing that was a part of your identity for so long, especially. Cause it was our childhood, so it was a lot to take in. And.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, you all kind of grew up together.
Finn Wolfhard
We totally did. It was like our weird little version of school, except the school was in front of everyone.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Finn Wolfhard
And then. Yeah, the end was, like. It was very emotional. They called cut, and I got to spend it with my other cast and the other kids. And I. You know, I said before the take started, I told Dacas, I was like, before. They call, like, rap before we go out to the crew and say, like, let's just take like three minutes for ourselves. Like once they say cut, let's just spend time and like, really collect ourselves and really just like try to be as present in the moment as we possibly could. And that was really like the most special moment ever.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, that's awesome.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah. I love them.
Jimmy Fallon
I love that.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
One of the first times you were on this show for Stranger Things, I asked you to tease the upcoming season in one word. Now, since you're here for the final season, I thought maybe I could read the titles of the last four episodes and have you give me a one word reaction to each.
Finn Wolfhard
No spoils, no spoilers.
Jimmy Fallon
But one word.
Finn Wolfhard
Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, ready? Volume two, episode five, the Shock Jock. One word.
Finn Wolfhard
Crispy. Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Episode six is Escape from Camazotz. Haunting music.
Finn Wolfhard
I'm like trying to remember what happened since 6. I would say, like, shocking.
Jimmy Fallon
What'd you say for the first one?
Finn Wolfhard
I said crispy.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Finn Wolfhard
Those are two different.
Jimmy Fallon
I know they're different words. I understand, but I just, I got confused. All right, so episode seven is the bridge.
Finn Wolfhard
Oh, man. Enlightening.
Martha Stewart
Or.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah, enlightening. I'm gonna do that.
Martha Stewart
Okay.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Volume three, episode eight, the Right side Up.
Finn Wolfhard
Emotional.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you for doing that.
Thank you. You're the best. Congrats on the final season, dude.
Martha Stewart
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Volume two of Stranger Things 5 begins streaming. Christma. And the finale premieres New Year's Eve on Netflix. And his album Happy Birthday is available now. More tonight's show after the break. Stick around everybody.
Our next guest does it all. She's an entrepreneur, she's an Emmy winning TV host. She's a best selling authority. The reissue of the first of her 101 books, by the way. 101 books. Wow. Entertaining. This is the one that started it all is available right now. She's also the co founder of Elm Biosciences skin care products which you can find@elm biosciences.com Please welcome Martha Stewart.
Yes, Martha, welcome back to the show.
I always love it when you come by. You look fantastic as always.
Finn Wolfhard
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
I have to ask. Yeah. We love you, Martha. This time of year, do you drive around and judge people's Christmas decorations?
Martha Stewart
Absolutely.
Jimmy Fallon
You do? Yes.
Martha Stewart
I know where all the best decorations are.
Jimmy Fallon
You are? Yeah. Any no no's to Christmas decorations? Anything you don't like.
Martha Stewart
There's this trend this year of putting up these balloony kind of characters.
Finn Wolfhard
Yes.
Martha Stewart
And they're always like flaccid and falling on the Ground. I hate, I hate those.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay. All right, Perfect. Yeah. I want to ask you a question, because I saw, I, I, I went to a Nick game, maybe see the New York Knicks maybe a month ago, and I sat courtside and I go, I wanted to ask you about this because for me, I think I'm too close. I don't really want to be that close. I was very lucky to get these tickets.
Martha Stewart
They're good seats, though.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, it's too much action for me. I'm afraid of getting in the way. Here you are sitting courtside.
Martha Stewart
Oh, you found it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Finn Wolfhard
Uh, oh.
Martha Stewart
See those open toe shoes?
Jimmy Fallon
Yes.
Martha Stewart
Never ever wear open toed shoes to a game like that when you're sitting on the floor.
Jimmy Fallon
Tell me what happened.
Martha Stewart
Cause Jalen, who's now like, super duper, I mean, isn't he doing really well?
Jimmy Fallon
He's the best player in the NBA. He's crushing.
Martha Stewart
He is so great. He is so Jalen Brunson. I have the Brunson fracture. He stepped on my big toe in this foot. That's why I'm wearing open toed shoes, because it's the only kind of shoes I can wear now, because I can't wear.
Jimmy Fallon
He stepped and he broke your toe?
Martha Stewart
He broke my toe. And it was like in the last five minutes of the game with the Pacers, and then they went into overtime, which made it even more painful because I couldn't get up and leave to go take care of my toe.
Jimmy Fallon
You felt it immediately?
Martha Stewart
Oh, yeah. I knew it was broken immediately. And he sat on my lap too. He comes crashing down, sits on my lap, and I grabbed his arm, and his arm was like icy cold. And I thought, well, he's playing base. He's a basketball player. He should be sweaty. He wasn't sweaty at all.
Jimmy Fallon
He was crazy as a kid.
Martha Stewart
And I said, it's okay. That's what all he said was, it's okay. And he didn't know he broke my foot, but he broke my foot.
Jimmy Fallon
You said that.
Martha Stewart
And he's not even big. He's only 6ft 2.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. But he's running and he's a beast. And he jumped and he has big feet, though.
Finn Wolfhard
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Bash it.
Bash it. Have you got to speak to him and tell him?
Martha Stewart
I told his parents. I met his parents.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, is that as a coach?
Martha Stewart
He's his coach. And they were laughing. They thought it was so funny. All I got out of it was assigned basketball for my grandchild.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Martha Stewart
That's all I got.
Jimmy Fallon
That's good. That counts. Jaylen. Come on. Take care of Martha. I wanted to ask you why I have you here. I always ask you questions about veggies and cooking and all that stuff.
Martha Stewart
I hear you're gardening.
Jimmy Fallon
I got into gardening.
Martha Stewart
Oh, I'm so happy.
Jimmy Fallon
I loved it.
Martha Stewart
Did I give you my garden book yet?
Finn Wolfhard
No.
Martha Stewart
Oh, I have to give you my garden book. And I brought you the entertaining book. So now I have to give you my new 102nd book, which is gardening.
Jimmy Fallon
I'm going to freak out.
What is the tip?
Because. Let me show you the cucumber I grew. I brought it on the show. This is it. So what did I do wrong? What happened?
Martha Stewart
It looks like a gourd.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. But it's not the middle. Didn't grow out, didn't plunge. I was waiting for it to. I was waiting for it to plump out.
Martha Stewart
What were you growing it in?
Jimmy Fallon
Where was I?
Martha Stewart
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Out of a pot.
Martha Stewart
In a pot?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Martha Stewart
You can't grow cucumbers in a pot.
Finn Wolfhard
Where's your.
Martha Stewart
I thought you had a garden.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Oh, I have a pot. They all told me I couldn't do it, and I didn't. But you could eat that. They were right.
Martha Stewart
You can still eat that, right? Did you eat it?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. We had a great sushi chef from Blue Ribbon Sushi come on the show, cut the cucumber and made a cucumber roll.
Martha Stewart
You can do better than that.
Jimmy Fallon
What's the secret to gardening?
Martha Stewart
Well, you must trellis cucumbers. You know, they have to grow up something. Was that growing up something?
Jimmy Fallon
It was kind of.
Martha Stewart
Or was it growing down?
Jimmy Fallon
No, it was on a fence. It did grow down a little bit.
Finn Wolfhard
Yeah.
Martha Stewart
See, growing down isn't as good as growing up.
Jimmy Fallon
Do I need. I need a trellis?
Martha Stewart
Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
I didn't have a trellis.
Martha Stewart
They like to climb.
Jimmy Fallon
No, it went down and they like to climb.
Martha Stewart
Then they have room to hang down when they grow. They grow down. They don't grow up.
Jimmy Fallon
So get a trellis is your advice. Or don't do cucumbers?
Martha Stewart
No, do cucumbers. I love cucumbers.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Martha Stewart
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I was gonna try watermelon, but I don't feel like they're worth it.
Martha Stewart
It's hard to grow watermelons up north here because, you know, it tastes like. They say they don't get sweet enough. You know, it's just not so good. Yeah, but stick to cucumbers. Tomatoes grow really well.
Jimmy Fallon
But do you have a favorite variety of tomato?
Martha Stewart
Oh, I like big boys and better boys.
Jimmy Fallon
Better boys.
Martha Stewart
You could grow Better girls I could draw.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, well, I grew one called the Beefmaster. Oh, yeah. And, well, it was really tiny. It was small. I think the name is misleading.
Martha Stewart
I think. What kind of soil? What kind of soil are you? Are you a dirt nerd? You have to be a dirt nerd.
Jimmy Fallon
What's the kind of soil that came?
Martha Stewart
The ones that came out. I'm a dirt nerd. You have to do organic soil. Really highly organic soil.
Jimmy Fallon
This.
This is what I'm talking about.
Martha Stewart
I'll send you some sacks of organic soil.
Jimmy Fallon
You always take care of me. I want to talk to you about this too, because you're a great entrepreneur, always doing something cool, your time.
Martha Stewart
What are you talking about gardening for?
Jimmy Fallon
Sorry, sorry, sorry. Yeah, well, we have to, because it's you. We have to talk about everything while you're here. I love you. You're the co founder. Tell me about ELM Bioscience.
Martha Stewart
Well, this is a very exciting project. I. Everybody always asks, I have nice skin.
Jimmy Fallon
You have glowing skin.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Gorgeous skin.
Martha Stewart
Glowing good skin. But so everybody's always asked, why do you have such good skin? And I always try to take good care of my skin, of course. But then I worked with. For the last five years or so with Dr. Bonasali. You met him backstage. And he is a young Indian dermatologist. Fabulous, fabulous smart guy. And also a very fine chemist. And so we have developed this amazing. It's a formula and there's some molecules in there that have not been in skin care before. And you should try it because it is very good on men's skin as well as women's skin. So you're gonna use this.
Jimmy Fallon
Which one should you try?
Martha Stewart
That one. Morning and night. A little bit here. Just put a little bit on. Yeah. Oh, good. You put it in the right spot. A little bit more.
Finn Wolfhard
One more.
Martha Stewart
And then just rub it all over your face. It doesn't take your makeup off. Just feel how nice and cool it is.
Jimmy Fallon
No one knows I wear makeup. They think I just look naturally. Perfect makeup. It's the magic of tv. No one knows I wear.
To give away my secrets. No one ever asked me about my skincare look. Doesn't it feel good?
I feel good. I feel refreshed.
Martha Stewart
Yeah. Feel cool, right? And actually you look better.
Jimmy Fallon
Better.
Martha Stewart
You looked good.
Jimmy Fallon
I looked good, but now I look even better.
Martha Stewart
Oh, yes.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you. This is all because of you and Elm. Congratulations on this.
Finn Wolfhard
Yep.
Martha Stewart
And you take the supplements too.
Jimmy Fallon
And I'll take the supplements as well.
Martha Stewart
Two a day. Two a day. In the morning. They are they're very good. They help you prevent sunburn. And, you know, you can go out in the sun with this. This is almost like an interior sunblock.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow.
Martha Stewart
But it has all other good nutrients.
Jimmy Fallon
You're always doing something cool.
Martha Stewart
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I love this.
Martha Stewart
And then this is a big deal, guys.
Jimmy Fallon
This is a big deal as well. This is the book that started it all right here. Entertaining. Look at you. Come on.
Martha Stewart
1982.
Jimmy Fallon
1982. It's the greatest. Everything is great. Every photo is great. Every recipe is fantastic. Do you remember putting this out and going, this is my big swing. If this works.
Finn Wolfhard
It's my first book.
Martha Stewart
I had never written a book before, so it was very exciting. And I thought, wow, this is fun. And the response to it was great. Everybody really needed and wanted this book. I mean, people didn't have an interest. They didn't have an all colored book like this with a story and recipes, photos and real parties that we photographed. And so it was an instant hit. And that was. And then it encouraged me. That book encouraged me to go on with the rest of my life. And it's been so much fun. And to do a facsimile edition is.
Jimmy Fallon
Very interesting because everything's the original. Exactly how the book came on the.
Martha Stewart
80S, even dedicated to my ex husband. I had taken him out of subsequent printings, but now I put them back in for this one because it's the real thing.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, good karma for you.
Martha Stewart
And you have. You have to do the real thing. But I love this book and I still use the recipes a lot.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, I love every single thing you do. And I'm so thankful that you came back on the show every single time. You're my favorite. The one and only Martha Stewart.
Everybody Entertaining is in bookstores now.
And get Elm Biosciences. Come on.
It's elmbiosciences.com we'll be right back with Nathaniel Railiff. Everybody stick around. My mind is how to find a rhyme it's right on time I'm a step beyond I'm not my own.
Our next guest is a talented singer and songwriter. The 10th anniversary edition of his debut album, Nathaniel Ratliff and the Night Sweats, is available everywhere. Now please welcome Nathaniel Raitliff.
Oh, that's what I'm talking about. The one and only Nathaniel Raylan in the house.
Welcome back to the show, my friend. Man, oh, man, a lot of stuff has happened to you since we last saw each other. You got engaged.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You got married.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
You got a cat?
Nathaniel Rateliff
I got a cat. I Didn't cry when I got the cat too.
Jimmy Fallon
I think I have a picture of the cat. Look how cute this cat is.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Franklin.
Jimmy Fallon
No, that's Franklin. It's very cute, but even cooler. You're expecting a baby. Congratulations. Come on, Matt.
The best.
What a time.
Nathaniel Rateliff
It's been a big year. Surprising.
Jimmy Fallon
We've known each other for a long time. Now. You, you for the first time on the Tonight show was back in 2015. You performed sob on our show and it was unbelievable response. What do you remember from that night?
Nathaniel Rateliff
Well, I remember it was our first ever late night appearance and you were so kind to have us. And I remember just getting hair and makeup and you kept flashing the record and the hair and makeup team was like, he never does this. And I was like, is it good that he's doing this? And I remember before we came out because of you and how you kept pumping the record, we'd sold more pre sales of that first record than we had of anything I had done up until that point. So, yeah, no way.
Jimmy Fallon
But I remember seeing you, my friend sent me a YouTube video of you performing it live. And I, I said, this is the most energetic, most fun song, the most amazing singer. I, I, I've never, I've never seen anything like that in years. It's electric. I go, we gotta please. Let's get them on the show. And you came in the show, you crushed it. I mean, dude, you left a pint of blood on the stage, dude. It was just like that much energy put into a heart and soul. I loved it. And then you crushed it. Next day I got a phone call from Paul McCartney. Do you remember I told you that? You did?
Nathaniel Rateliff
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Paul McCartney goes. Who was that band? You know, that was a great band. You know, that was really good.
Nathaniel Rateliff
I was like, tell him to call me.
Carl Schmertz
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Did he ever call you?
Nathaniel Rateliff
No.
Jimmy Fallon
Okay.
Nathaniel Rateliff
But I did, I did run into him. And I, you know, and I will say that like, you gave us that opportunity in those 10 years. It's changed our lives and the importance of what you do and what late night TV is for artists like myself and people in the film industry. This is an important thing that you do. And I think it should be preserved.
Jimmy Fallon
You know, thank you, brother. I just, I set you up and it's up to you to score. I mean, I point to the ring, I go, go for it. And you know, it's up to you to win. And man, oh man, did you score. And if you want to see a great band live or great performer, see Nathaniel Ratliff, you won't even ever forget it. It's unbelievable. You're a great. You got to. You live in Colorado and it's been your home for how many years now?
Nathaniel Rateliff
Since 97.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Nathaniel Rateliff
I grew up in Missouri and then moved out west.
Jimmy Fallon
And you just got inducted in the Colorado Music hall of Fame.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Talk to me. This. What does it mean to you?
Nathaniel Rateliff
I mean, I feel like that community embraced me and gave me space throughout the years as an artist to figure out what I was doing through multiple bands. I started a band called Born in the Flood and then the Night Sweats was kind of at the end of. I was, you know, I was gardening on the side. Well, I heard you and Martha's. I heard you need some tips.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But dude, whatever Martha gives me, I'll give you.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Yes, please. But yeah, this was supposed to be like a side project and these songs were just me and my attic. Yeah. Just writing songs, playing all the parts.
Jimmy Fallon
As his anniversary album has 11 demos.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Yeah. So that was the kind of the start of what was the Night Sweats.
Jimmy Fallon
Just you in the attic.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Just me in the attic. Except for the horns. I overdubbed those. I called my buddy Andy Wilde and I was like. He came over the sax and somebody.
Jimmy Fallon
Who played trumpet, who talk to me, Richard Swift.
Nathaniel Rateliff
So I sent those demos to Richard Swift and we became fast friends. And he ended up producing the first record and second record. But his influence on those recordings, I think is also like what led to us kind of figuring out who we were musically and who I was musically.
Jimmy Fallon
When you perform live. Cause I've seen you live now a bunch of times and seen you at the Garden. You do songs, everyone knows all the words and they're yelling it back to you. Say it's a full on party. Does that give you chills? And you go, wow.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Sometimes I'm just like, wow. I think we've become a pretty good band sometimes.
Jimmy Fallon
Definitely have. But congrats on this. This is 10 years. And congrats on, baby. And congrats on life.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
Couldn't thank you enough for coming on my show.
Talented guy, Nathaniel Raeleff. The 10th anniversary edition of Nathaniel Raeleff and the Night Sweats is available now. Stick around everybod. First. We'll hand the link first.
