From Studio 16, Rockefeller center, in the heart of New York City, Mr. Tonight show, starring Jimmy Fallon. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Tonight joins Jim and his guests, Demi Lovato, Sarah McDell Geller, Daniel Arsham. And featuring Beast, legendary Ruth Kirk, 22 sister Sarah. And now, here he is. Give me balance. Oh, can you see that? Hey, come on now. Thank you. Hey, yeah. What's happening? I can get nothing. Hey, what's that working? All right. Hey, come on. Look again. That's right, that's right.
B
Come on. That's how you do it.
A
I love you.
B
Enjoy yourself. Enjoy yourself. Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome. Welcome to the Tonight Show. This is it.
A
You're here. You made it. Thank you for watching.
B
Guys, this is one of the best times of the year. It's spring break, tomorrow is St. Patrick's
C
Day,
B
and it's officially March Madness. Or as your liver calls it, one battle after another. That's right. March Madness kicks off this week, and I read that 100 million brackets are expected to be filled out. Ooh. Yeah, we actually have an office pool here, and the stakes are pretty high this year. The winner gets one gallon of gas. Yeah, everyone loves filling out a bracket. Even President Trump did one. Can we see it? Even that's redacted.
A
Oh, wow.
B
Even that's redacted.
A
That's crazy.
B
Well, guys, Today is day 17 of the war in Iran, and Trump just said that the war will end when he, quote, feels it in his bones. That's reassuring. Can't wait till Trump goes on social media and posts feeling cute might attack Sweden. Later today, Trump claimed that a former US President recently told him that he wished he had taken action against Iran, but didn't say which one. Trump was like, I won't say who, but we had a great conversation in my bathroom mirror. In an interview over the weekend, Trump said that US Strikes have totally demolished Iran's kharg island, but we may hit it a few more times, quote, just for fun. Jeez, I can't believe the Nobel Peace Prize committee just keeps snubbing this guy. I don't know. I don't understand what the problem. Yeah, Trump has continued to escalate the war in the Middle east, and you might not think that's what his voters elected him to do, but check out this interview we did with the Trump supporter right before he began his second term. Sir, you voted for President Trump. What are you hoping to see from a second Trump administration?
D
Well, I'm a working class guy with three kids, so it's pretty simple. I hope he attacks Iran without any particular goal in mind and sends gas prices through the roof. And I want to be specific here. I don't want him to know why he's starting a war or when it'll end. But I do want it to cost $82 to fill up my Kia Sorrento. Of course, my true dream is that it'll make Marco Rubio wear shoes that are way too big for him, but I don't want to push my luck.
A
Wow.
B
Isn't that amazing?
A
Exactly what they wanted.
B
This guy's got to be feeling pretty good right now. Yeah.
C
Yeah.
B
Well, this is big. Trump has been complaining that the headlines about the war in Iran are too negative. Trump is always saying the media is against him, so he actually started writing some headlines of his own. I'll show you what I mean. The original headline says, war in Iran stretches into third week with no exit plan. But Trump's headline, trump geniusly keeps military plans top secret, even from himself. Next up, gas prices skyrocket to $3.70 per gallon. But Trump's headline says, there's never been a better time to buy a Tesla. Kim Jong un oversees nuclear tests. Bestie acting cray cray. And I'm seated. And finally, Popeyes chicken closing dozens of locations. Trump barricades cell phone situation room to deal with national emergency. Oh, I didn't have my head. Switching gears to some entertainment news, last night was the 98th Academy Awards.
C
Oh.
B
Oh, yeah. It was a historic night. For the first time, the Oscars modeled their stage after P. F Chang's. Oh, well, people are talking about this. One of the stars of Marty's Supreme, Shark Tank's Kevin o' Leary, had a very interesting outfit. Look at this. Oh, looks like a karate instructor who won Powerball. Well, some business news. Buzzfeed said that they have substantial doubt that they can stay in business. Here to tell us more about this is Buzzfeed spokesman Peter McNally. Peter, welcome.
A
Thanks for having me.
B
So what exactly is causing the decline of Buzzfeed?
E
Want to feel old? These 17 Buzzfeed articles haven't been clicked on in 12 years.
B
I'm sorry, why are you talking like that?
E
Only 90s kids will remember why I'm talking like this.
B
Buzzfeed didn't even exist in the 90s.
E
23 signs you're the know it all in your friend group.
B
I see what you're doing, but I'm pretty sure clickbait doesn't work if you're just saying it out loud.
E
You sure, Jimmy? Because this next Sentence might be the craziest thing you hear today.
B
Okay, what is it?
E
I'd tell you, but only 90s kids would understand.
B
Stop talking about 90s kids. Do you have any ideas for ways to save BuzzFeed?
E
No, but this one simple trick will change the way you cook eggs forever.
B
Look, look, I don't think we're getting anywhere here.
E
Wait. I have something to say. And I promise it's not clickbait.
B
It's just a true statement of fact. Great. Finally. What is it?
E
You won't believe what Jimmy Fallon looks like now.
B
All right, we gotta move on. We gotta move on. Thank you.
E
Only 90s kids have to move on.
B
Sorry. Thank you. But thank you very much. Well, this made me laugh. I saw that Kevin Hart is asking a museum to redo a wax statue of him because it doesn't look anything like. Do you see this? Is this real? Can we see the statue?
A
Wow.
B
I don't know who that is.
A
I don't know. That's not Kevin Hart.
B
It's Kevin Hart, man. Dude, that looks.
A
Wow.
B
That looks like Jake from State Farm. It's interesting, but now I guess other statues are speaking out about it.
C
Oh, good.
B
For example, this statue of soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo said, Irma Gerd here. The hair is there. And this statue of Lucille Ball said that lurk's knitting lurk kerbin her. This plaque of Elvis Presley said, Kerwin looks er shirker. Then this wax figure of Prince William said er for wind thank Kervin looks fern ter stick. And finally, this wax figure of Leonardo DiCaprio said, Irma Gerd wern after one Berner, after a nerder one Bert Perkscher. We didn't even talk about Kevin Hart. And finally, I read that Taco Bell is introducing an edible sauce packet. Edible sauce packet. Taco Bell customers like, wait, were we not supposed to be eating the sauce packet?
A
We have a great show. Hey, happy St. Patrick's Day. We'll be right back with Sevy Lovato. Our first guest is one of the
B
most talented performers on the planet. Tickets for her it's not that Deep tour are on sale now.
A
And check out her new cookbook, one
B
plate at a time, available tomorrow wherever books are sold.
A
Please welcome to the show Demi Lovato. That's right. Feel the love. Feel the love for Demi Lovato. Come on, pal.
F
Thank you so much.
B
Welcome back to the show. We have so much going on to talk about. We have to talk about the book. We have to talk about the. But we have to talk about. You got married.
A
Congratulations. I did. Thank you. So happy for you, bud. Thank you so much.
B
Last time we talked about you guys loving each other and you were talking about the details of the wedding and all this stuff, and you had a great wedding.
F
Sounds like we had an amazing wedding. He is just my whole world. I love him so much. He actually performed here on the show not too long ago, so.
B
Yeah, exactly.
F
Yeah. So
B
I take everyone from your wedding. That's how we booked the show. Everyone who goes to your wedding comes on our show. But you actually had. I know. Iris is your wedding song, right?
F
Or one of your songs. It was our first dance.
B
Your first dance.
F
It's such a special song.
B
It's such a good song.
F
One of the best songs ever.
B
It really is. But you actually got Johnny Resnick from Goo Goo Dolls to perform at your wedding.
A
Yes. That's awesome.
B
Okay. Good humor.
C
Come on.
B
You're in love.
F
We were so grateful to have him perform. It was a no brainer. We definitely wanted that song as our first dance. And he absolutely smashed it. The crowd was singing. Well, not the crowd. The audience was singing along and there was a sing along moment. It was really, really cute and sweet and it was just amazing. It was perfect.
B
And then you had a DJ that is one of our buds as well.
F
That's my sis, Paris Hilton.
A
Hilton DJing. Come on. Yes.
F
She's so iconic. I love her so much. And it was electric.
B
I wanted to ask you about this. Cause you got on stage with the Jonas Brothers.
G
Yes.
B
Met Live stadium and kind of broke the Internet. By the way, this video is at like half a billion views or something. Billion.
F
It was so much fun. We had a blast. And like, performing those songs was so nostalgic for me. We had the best time and it was great to see them.
B
You get nervous going out.
F
I was so nervous. I get nervous doing this. So of course, performing in front of that many people was very nerve wracking.
B
You crushed it.
F
Thank you.
B
It was fantastic. I also want to talk about. Let's talk about your book here.
G
Yes.
B
One plate at a time.
A
Yeah.
B
Love the COVID Thank you. I love it. I love the feel of it. It's a quality book. I love a good cooking book. Thank you. It's part cookbook, part memoir too.
C
Yeah.
F
There's definitely a lot of my personal story in there. I love cooking and being in the kitchen and that wasn't always the case for me because I'm in recovery from an eating disorder, so food used to be really intimidating to me, to the point where I would step into a grocery store and I would break down into tears. And since starting my culinary journey, I learned how to practice self care by nourishing myself with the meals that I cook and find freedom with food. And I wanted to bring that same joy and freedom to my readers who are also in recovery from disordered eating. Looking to take the next steps, or if you're just learning to cook for the first time and you want to.
B
Don't want to be intimidated.
F
And you don't want to be intimidated. This book is for you.
B
Yeah, it really is. It's great. I love all the recipes. I love cookbooks. I actually did some cooking. I grew some vegetables over the summer. And I don't know if you heard about this, but I brought.
F
Oh, I heard.
C
You did?
F
Yes.
B
I had a tomato that I. Or tomato that I grew. And it was. Here's a photo of. Took me all summer to grow this.
A
It's so cute.
B
It's the cutest tomato ever. We called it Demi Tomaho.
A
Yes. I love that.
B
We love it. We had to. And then our guests that night were Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. We made salsa out of your tomato.
F
I'm honored.
B
And they loved it. It was a big hit.
F
I'm honored. There's actually a salsa recipe in my cookbook.
B
Oh, my gosh. Well, next time you have to use Demi tomatoes. The best for salsa. Yeah. Let's talk about your new tour. It's not that deep. It kicks off next month. What do fans expect from the tour?
F
Fans can expect a lot of dancing, a lot of songs. Oh, really? Yeah. I'm dancing again.
B
And.
F
And, well, songs that you already know, but also songs that might be new. And so there's. There's a little teaser for you.
B
What we have a plan to do. Stop yelling. Questions.
A
What song?
C
Which. What are you getting?
B
When you go on tour, though? Do you get inspired to. I know a lot of bands that go on tour because they're rehearsing so much, they end up writing a whole new album or new stuff. Are you working on new stuff?
F
I have been in the studio and I've been working on new music, and I might just play some of that at the show.
A
Tell Mike. You see, there you go. You manifested it.
B
Whoever yelled in the audience, stick around more.
A
Us. Yeah. Like a fortune teller 95 made the pearl Ella $puff everybody know that dope like Bo Jackson Everybody know that Roll on Roby Patrick. Last one. Gather that lips like Ro.
B
Our next guest is A talented Emmy winning actress who stars in the new movie Ready or Not two, Here I Come, which is in theaters everywhere this Friday. Please welcome Sarah Michelle Yellow.
A
Hi, Buz.
G
Hello. Hi.
A
Welcome back to the show.
G
Thank you for having me. I'm glad to see that you remember me.
B
That is interesting that you're saying this now, because last time you were on, we had a misunderstanding.
G
Was it a misunderstanding?
B
Yes, I actually. I thought you were gonna bring this up. Actually, I really. I have the clip of me.
G
I do hold onto things during the interview.
B
Let me just go, everyone. What?
G
I mean, you almost had two of both my kids be your birthday twin.
B
September 19th.
G
Yep.
B
Virgo.
G
So now, September 19th and September 20th.
B
What is your name again?
A
My name?
B
No, your daughter.
A
Oh. I was like, you know each other. This one you already again.
G
Sarah.
A
Sarah.
B
Yeah. Sarah.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah, Sarah. You thought I didn't know what your name was?
G
I mean, okay, I've known you forever. I've known you forever. Yes. But, like, you see a lot of people and I don't want to take. I always introduce myself to people like, I don't take for granted that I assume you know who I am.
B
I've worked with you many times.
G
Yes, I know.
B
How's your husband? How's Freddie Prinze Jr.
G
He's. He just had a big birthday.
B
Wait, did he really?
A
Yeah.
B
Oh, my gosh. Is he 50?
G
Yeah, 50 and fabulous.
A
Wow.
B
Yeah, he's the best. Give him my best.
G
I already did.
B
What did he. What'd you do for the future?
G
Well, he's funny. He's not really, like a birthday party kind of guy, but he said he really wanted one. He wanted all the people that loved him. And I have not thrown a party in 100 years that wasn't a kid's party. So I was like, I hope you're gonna be okay with balloon animals and face painting, but sure, I got you. I'll do it.
B
Yeah. Did you have a rager?
G
A total rager? Yeah, total rager. In bed by 11:30.
B
Yeah, exactly. That's a rager for us.
G
For me, it was a rager.
B
Here's you guys in the cast of Scooby Doo. Oh, my gosh. This is iconic. What do you remember about filming these ones? These movies?
G
Well, my favorite part was in the first one we had the Hong Kong Wire team that came off the Matrix. Actually, you have something in common with them because they couldn't remember my name either. And they would call me Blonde Girl.
B
I know your name, of course.
G
What's my Name.
B
Julie.
A
Yes.
B
Now, wait. So the people from the Matrix did Scooby Doo?
A
Yeah.
G
The same Hong Kong wire team that trained Keanu for it trained me for Scooby Doo. It's a really cool fight at the end with all this. And I had both my stunt doubles from Buffy came out and. Yeah. So they would. Blonde Girl stunt. Blonde. Blonde Girl.
B
And they would call you Blonde girl.
G
I still respond to it.
B
That's not bad.
C
Yeah, why not?
B
Come on.
G
Well, it's not incorrect.
B
It's not incorrect. No, no, no. Let's talk about your new movie. Now, this is a big deal. You were telling me backstage that because it's a scary movie that you have a thing called the Blood Cannon.
G
Yes. So there's this thing in the Ready or Not lore, and they call them pffs. And it's when blood, like, all over you. That's what it means. And I think they said something like, they used 35,000 gallons of blood on this movie.
F
Yeah.
G
It's intense. And when it hits you. So the very first day, we were shooting at a hotel, and they gave us, like, hotel rooms as a dressing room. And, you know, like, you go to a hotel, you check it out, make sure it's clean, right?
B
Yeah.
G
And I'm looking, and on the chair, there's, like, some drops of blood. And I was like, oh, okay. And then I look at the desk and there's, like, a trail of blood. And I'm like, now, normally, in a hotel, that would be a red flag.
B
You move rooms or in a hotel.
G
Let me just check. I was like, hey, did Samara have this room yesterday? They're like, yeah. Did she leave something? A few things, yeah.
B
Yeah. But you would leave it, like, some of her blood?
G
Yeah, yeah. On the first movie, she said she lost her deposit on her apartment because it was just everywhere. And then at one point in this movie, it becomes blood and cake, which is harder to get out of. Blonde hair, interestingly enough. Cake?
B
Really?
G
Oh, no.
B
By the way, you really kind of become typecast now.
G
Yeah, I really. It's on my resume. I actually added it to Special skills. Yeah, I can talk on the phone. Yeah, it's juggling. Can talk on the phone and can do stunts. Those are my three. Like, those are my three specials.
B
We always have a phone here whenever. Could you maybe give us some of your skills? Show us.
G
So your skill of phone acting depends on what, like, year your movie was made. Right? Because, like, now if you have a phone, right, you can see. But in those days, when you Answer. You know what we all used to do? We used to say, who is this?
B
Yeah.
G
You would look at the phone, but you couldn't see anything. It's like we knew the future was coming.
B
Interesting. Could you do, like, a concern, like, we're in the movie. Could you do, like, an acting little scene like Ruth?
G
What's the scene about?
B
Well, it's a strange caller.
G
Okay.
B
And it's saying that I'm in the basement.
G
I would say, I don't have a basement. And then the movie would be open.
B
I meant living room. I meant living room.
A
Sarah Michelle Geller, everybody. Ready or not to Here I Come
B
is in theaters this Friday. More Tonight show after the break. Stick around, everybody. Our next guest is a renowned artist who has written his new memoir, future Relic, which comes out tomorrow wherever books are sold. Please welcome Daniel Arshon. Thank you for being here. Congrats on the book. It's a big deal. You got some great people to talk about you on the back as well. Pharrell Williams.
C
Yes, sir.
B
Gonna. Come on. This is super fun. It's failures, disasters, detours, and how I made a career as an artist.
C
Yes.
B
Do you get afraid when you're writing these books to talk about your failures or your.
C
I mean, you know, this book was really a kind of journey of thinking about how I got to the place where I'm at. You know, so many people just see kind of the end. They go to an exhibition, they see the work. But, yeah, there's a lot that went into it.
B
Yeah. Do you remember as a kid going, this is something I'm good at? Like, were you drawing doodles in your.
C
I used to sit in front of the television and pause the TV and make drawings from different movies. You know, Star Wars, Indiana Jones.
A
Really?
C
That whole universe.
B
Yeah.
C
And then in third. No, it was fourth grade, I had a teacher. Her name was Ms. Perry.
B
Shout out.
C
Shout out. Teachers. My sister's a teacher, actually. Love teachers.
A
Thank you, teachers.
C
Yes. And so Ms. Perry told my parents that I was unusually talented at drawing. And so in fourth grade. In fourth grade. And so they sent me to this kind of specialized art school, which was elementary school. Then I went to junior high school, high school.
B
Was this in Cleveland?
C
No, this was in Miami.
B
Miami, yeah. Wow. And then you go, that's it. Now you're just in art school. And then.
C
Then I'm in art school. And, you know, I applied to go to Cooper Union here in the city.
B
That's right.
C
Stories in the book. I was not initially accepted. That was one failure and then tried again and got in second time. Yeah.
B
What was your first big break?
C
So there was an art dealer, his name is Emmanuel Perrotin, who's one of the most famous art dealers in the world. And about 25 years ago, I found out that he was going to be in the city. And I'm thinking to myself, like, how can I get to this guy and how can I convince him that he should give this kind of unknown artist a chance?
B
Yeah.
C
So I found an art collector who had bought work from him that I knew, got him to come over, and I built a full scale replica of his gallery out of cardboard, down to every last detail, like the flower vase on the desk, the plaster molding and everything. And then I hung an exhibition of my work in it.
B
In the fake gallery?
C
In the fake gallery. It was like full scale in my studio.
B
Did he freak out?
C
So he walks in the door and he kind of is like. He recognized immediately. Right. Like, the question was in the sculpture that I had made. And so we ended up doing that show. That was 2005, so, you know, 20 years ago. Yeah.
B
And you've been with him ever since?
C
Yeah, And I just opened a show here in New York with him. That's in Lower east side.
B
It all comes back.
C
Yeah.
B
Isn't that amazing? Do you ever get to see some of your old stuff?
C
Actually, there's a funny story to that. So I did that first show and next day I go and they tell me the entire show is sold out. You know, I'm 23 years old. I'm like, I made it. You know, I sold out my first exhibition. And then about four years ago, I'm preparing a museum show and so I'm having dinner with Emmanuel and I said I'd love to go back and like, find some of those works. Like, can you help me? Like, who are the collectors that bought them?
B
Yeah, because you don't see them or.
C
No, I never see them again after. And he turns to me and he says, well, I know where everything is from the show. And just something about the way that he said it was like. So he goes, yeah, I bought that whole show.
B
No way. He was the one.
C
Yep.
B
He was the one that bought it. He never told you?
C
He never told me until that point. No.
B
But that changes your life. Cause it gives you confidence. Like, well, people like my stuff.
C
Exactly.
B
Yeah. He liked it. Yeah. It's like, wow. But look at the cool stuff you've done. This book, by the way, is so inspiring and it's fantastic to hear about your ride, but also talk about your failures, disasters, but also motivates you. And there's a lot here that you talk about. Your mentor. I'm not going to say who it is. You have to read the book. But who inspired you? But what is the one piece of advice that most resonates with you from your mentor?
C
I mean, he had this thing where he would say, the longer you wait to take that chance in your life, the shorter the future is going to be when you arrive there. So it's this idea that, you know, we have only so much time right, on this earth, and there's somebody out there that's watching this that's like, oh, I've been wanting to do this thing in my creative life. Yeah, do the thing now.
B
Now is the time.
C
Now is the time to do it.
B
Stop waiting. Just do it, and then figure it out.
C
Because we can all live with failure, right? We can try, but living with regret is really difficult. So live with your failures. I don't have any regrets.
B
Love this great advice. You told me you brought me something, which is.
C
Oh, I did bring you something.
B
Give me gifts, because you are the gift.
C
Okay. So in the book I made. Well, here's what I brought you, which is the letter J that I've drawn for you. And in the book, the first letter of every chapter, I've made a drawing for the letter. So there's the letter I.
B
Yes.
C
And so I brought you the J. Oh, my gosh. I even signed it for you.
B
You are the best. What are you talking about? I didn't even want to talk over it.
C
Don't ever sell it or I'll know who sold it.
B
No, I would never in my life. Oh, my gosh. Dude. Do you.
C
I just did it in the dressing room.
B
Yeah, right. I mean, when you make these things, do you know how intricate you're going to make them as you're drawing it?
C
This one I kind of sketch as I'm going and then fill in the little people. It's like a game.
A
Wow.
C
Yeah.
B
It's a game for a very talented player. I'm happy the book is coming out. Last time I talked to you, you mentioned wanting to do something around the city, and you did it. You pulled it off. I don't want to tell anyone.
C
I did pull it off, so.
B
I can't believe you did it.
C
I'm revealing something here tonight, which is
B
that there's an Easter egg in the book.
C
This is an Easter egg? Yeah. I've hidden an artwork in New York City. And it's a sculpture that I've divided into three parts and placed in different locations in the city so people can find that the first clue of how to get there is in the book. You have to read the whole book to figure it out. It's a little bit cryptic, but once you find the work, you can actually make a rubbing of it with a piece of paper and a black crayon. So you. And then if you bring it to me, I'll sign it.
B
Okay, done.
C
All right.
B
Perfect. All right, we're gonna do this and find it. The next time you're on, I'm gonna look for it and find it.
C
You look for it.
B
You're the best, bud. Congratulations.
A
Daniel Arsham. Future relic comes out tomorrow.
