Next up, CVS said, don't worry, you can still find an entire aisle of Halloween decorations in mid July. Good, good. The grandkids are the best.

Yeah, they are.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yeah. Oscar just got a haircut. He looks like an old man. He's 16 months.

[Jimmy Fallon]

That's so cute.

[Lorraine Bracco]

I'm like, what did you do to him?

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah. I got to see you over the summer. Yes. In Long island in the Hamptons.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yes. Can I embarrass you for a minute? You don't mind, right?

So we met outside with your wife and your children, who are lovely and beautiful, and we talked and we fooled around. And then at the end, I just wanted you to know that. Come on. Come on.

Yeah.

[Lorraine Bracco]

I turned around and I said to you, you make me so happy.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You did do that. I'll never forget it. I'll never forget it.

It was true. But it's true.

It was in the side. We were on the sidewalk and you grabbed me and go, hey.

He makes me happy.

No, I want to. I want to get in. This is about you tonight. This is about you tonight. I want to talk about your new movie. No. No. So first off, I wanted to get into a couple things. One is I saw this interview magazine from 2001 with Destiny's Child, and they were interviewed by you, Lorraine Bracco, for Interview magazine. This is when Destiny's Child went to therapy with Tony Soprano's shrink.

[Nate Bargatze]

Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

What do you remember from this?

[Lorraine Bracco]

They were so delightful. They were, you know, they all have that fabulous, you know, Dallas Texan accent, of course, opposite of me. And they were delightful and warm and lovely and it was so crazy. I remember they opened up about racism.

[Nate Bargatze]

Oh, really?

[Lorraine Bracco]

They were young, they were beautiful. And they said they were on some airline and they were really rude to them. They were like, oh, no, you're not in first class. Something really crazy like that. And so we talked about what it is, you know, to be a young, up and coming, beautiful, you know, singer and how that made them feel.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It was really quite intense being honest about that.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Absolutely.

[Jimmy Fallon]

So young, too. And now look what they've become.

[Lorraine Bracco]

I think they have their own planes now. It's okay.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah, yeah, they do. Yeah, they do. Yeah. You've done so many iconic roles. Everyone yells on the street. They probably call you, you know, karen or I get it. Or Doc.

[Lorraine Bracco]

I get doc a lot. It's funny. And, you know, when people first started to do it, I'd be looking around, who are they yelling at? Oh, it's me. Oh, hi. It was very funny.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I mean, do you like. You just went to something called Paisan Khan?

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yes.

[Jimmy Fallon]

What is paisan Khan?

[Lorraine Bracco]

It's where a lot of us went to sign autographs and meet people and take pictures. And they did. Was they built Melie's office?

[Jimmy Fallon]

No.

[Lorraine Bracco]

So, you know, I sat in my chair and then people got to come and sit in the make believe Tony chair. And, you know, it was just. They were crazy. They loved it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It's so fun that you do that. I mean, it was fun. You must be the queen of that. If I ever saw Lorraine bracco at pazanka, I would freak out.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yeah, it's crazy. It was crazy.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You still have the place in Sicily, by the way.

[Lorraine Bracco]

I do do, yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I want to come visit that place.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Come on.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I was going to go to some Lorraine Bracco stories, if you don't mind, and tell me if any of these are true or if there's any truth at all. You were originally considered for the roles of Carmela soprano in the sopranos and Mona Lisa Vito in my cousin Vinny.

[Lorraine Bracco]

True.

[Nate Bargatze]

Really?

[Jimmy Fallon]

They wanted you for those roles and why didn't you do my cousin Vinny?

[Lorraine Bracco]

I had just did a movie with Sean Connery and I was in the jungles in Mexico for five, six months, and I came back and I was. And I had parasites and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And yeah, and I said, I don't have anything to, you know, no energy. Yeah. I had nothing. And I had to say no.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And so you said no to that? Yeah, it's tough to say that. And then they wanted you for Carmela?

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yeah, he wanted to meet me. He just really wanted to meet me. And I went in. I had read the script, which I really loved. And I went in saying to myself, get Dr. Melfi.

[Jimmy Fallon]

That's what you wanted.

[Lorraine Bracco]

I wanted it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And you nailed it. You got it and you crushed about it. You're the best.

[Nate Bargatze]

Good for you.

[Lorraine Bracco]

So where are we going?

All right. When you saw how the Sopranos ended, you didn't love it at first.

[Nate Bargatze]

Well, you know, when it went to black.

[Lorraine Bracco]

When it went to black, I'll tell you the truth. I was sitting next to Jimmy Gandolfini, and he just went like this.

[Nate Bargatze]

That's it.

[Lorraine Bracco]

That's it.

[Nate Bargatze]

Wow.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Really?

[Lorraine Bracco]

And you know how he always used to push his hair back and he just walked out.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Really? Yeah.

[Lorraine Bracco]

He was like, that's it. He was like. He couldn't believe it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Lorraine Bracco]

I said, yeah, I guess that's it.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And now looking back, do you still feel like that was not the way it should have been? Who knows?

[Lorraine Bracco]

Again, you know, the only thing I can say is people are still talking about it. So I guess David did do something interesting.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. We're always wondering. Yeah. How about this right here? Robert De Niro first suggested Goodfellas to you even before Martin Scorsese reached out to you about it.

[Lorraine Bracco]

He told me to read the book.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Really?

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yeah. Wise guys. Nick Pileggi's wise guys. He said, go get that book. Okay.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You crushed it, man. Oh, my gosh. I love de niro. Leonardo DiCaprio called you personally to convince you to play his mother in the Basketball Diaries.

[Lorraine Bracco]

He's young, you know, I don't really remember that, but I remember meeting with him, and I said, look, you're a nice guy. You're a nice guy. But there's three lines. What do you want me to do with this? He said, don't look at the script. We'll make it up. We'll do it. We'll improv. Say whatever you want. We'll do it. I want you to be. And you know what was so interesting? He said, I want you to be like my mom.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Wow.

[Lorraine Bracco]

So all the. You know, all of the scenes that we did were, like, totally improvised.

[Jimmy Fallon]

You and Leah?

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yeah.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And he's the best.

[Lorraine Bracco]

He's the best. Trust me. And remember, he was young at the time. I was gonna say, yeah, he was a baby.

[Jimmy Fallon]

But look at him saying, don't look at the script.

[Lorraine Bracco]

We'll improvise. And he had a very cute ass. I remember as he. I was.

I'm sure a lot of people love him for a lot of things.

Yeah.

By the way, you crush it in this film. It's based on a true story. It's real.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yeah. It's adorable. I love the film. I'm so happy with it, you know, the fact that it's a true story and that it's a restaurant in Staten Island. And this man, Joe, he was devastated when his mom and his grandma passed and he inherited a couple of bucks, and he decided to honor them by opening up a restaurant that he knows nothing about.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Nothing.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Zero. Nothing, zero. But he wants all nonas, all grandmas to come and do their authentic cooking.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Right. So at the time, it wasn't Craigslist. It was like an Italian newspaper. He put an add in for Nonna's that liked to cook.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

[Lorraine Bracco]

And so they all came and they came with their dishes, and they wanted him to try them and so that he would hire them.

[Jimmy Fallon]

And then the cookbook. The restaurant took off. He has a cookbook? That's right.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Very small restaurant on Staten Island. And now he has nonnas of the world, which is great. He's got, like, Japanese nonnas in there and polish.

[Jimmy Fallon]

It's crazy.

[Lorraine Bracco]

And we're talking about food.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yes. Oh, I saw that. Something's here. What did you bring me?

[Nate Bargatze]

Ooh.

[Lorraine Bracco]

These are my biscotti that I got this recipe from a friend of mine up in Woodstock.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I love Woodstock.

[Lorraine Bracco]

And yes, we made those for you. And I suggest you take one home because nobody's gonna let you take more than that.

You know, I have to tell you the truth. I was in the hotel plaza for the last 10 days doing pretzel, and I didn't have a kitchen, so I asked my friend Vin to do it. So he made them I gave him, and he's been asking me for my recipe for a long time, so I finally gave it to him.

This is phenomenal.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Yeah, they're good.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I should also say nona's has a great cast. Ah, you have Vince Vaughn.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Oh, my God, do I love him. I love him almost as much as I love you.

[Jimmy Fallon]

I say I love you. And Joe Manganiello.

[Lorraine Bracco]

[Jimmy Fallon]

We love his acting.

No, he let me. Did you just do this? I love. Listen, these guys were so great. And, you know, I never made a comedy before, so I was really nervous. No Goodfellas. Courtney's funny. Yeah. Not funny.

No. Those were great.

[Lorraine Bracco]

So I was so nervous when we went to the read throughs, I was like, oh, God. I kept telling to Vince and the director, Stephen Trebatt.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Oh, he's a great director.

[Lorraine Bracco]

You made a mistake. I know you did. I'm not good at this. I don't know how to do this.

[Jimmy Fallon]

No, you're phenomenal in it. It's actually great.

[Lorraine Bracco]

They were so great about Vince was like, trust, you can do it. I know it. We have all the time in the world, which we never did, but we're gonna get it. And he was so delightful.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Really. It's a great movie for. For Mother's Day too, because it kind of has a great message of.

[Lorraine Bracco]

Well, it's all about food and love and. And family.

[Jimmy Fallon]

Yeah.

Which is great.

Have your mom call your mom. Call your mom and tell her you.
