Jimmy Fallon
From Studio 6B in Rockefeller center in the heart of New York City, it's a Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon.
Nate Bargatze
Tonight, join Jimmy and his guests, Dave.
Jimmy Fallon
Barietzi, Lorraine Bracco, and the legendary Ruth Bruce. Two, one, three. Oh, Jim. And now, here he is. Gimme Leland. Oh, my God. Thank you. Enjoy yourself. Enjoy yourself. Welcome, everybody. Welcome. Welcome to the Tonight Show. Well, guys, I was at the Met Gala last night, and I gotta say, there's nothing more awkward than when you show up in the same outfit as someone else. It is my apologies to Andre 3000. You wore it best. Okay? And congrats on the new album. I appreciate it. That's right. That's right. Last night. Thank you. Last night was the Met Gala, and it rained all night.
Nate Bargatze
Ooh.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Thankfully, everyone was able to stay dry under Diana Ross dress. That's right. Thousands of celebrities from all over the world came together with one common goal. Figuring out how to sit. But the Met Gala was great. And most importantly, all the money raised will go towards throwing next year's Met Gala. Isn't that nice? Well, this is fun. Today it's National Teachers Day. Yeah, that's right. That's great. It is that special day that we recognize teachers while also praying we never run into them outside of school. It's like, oh, you buy food. Well, some news from Washington today. President Trump hosted the new Canadian Prime Minister at the White House. Yeah. Trump said if Canada became the 51st state, it would be a wonderful marriage. And people were like, how would he know? But the Prime Minister said, canada is not for sale and won't be for sale ever. Then Trump went back to browsing a world map like, it's zoom. All right. Fin. Finland looks nice. The schools are good. Of course, Trump's meeting with Canada's Prime Minister was very important for relations between our two countries. Beforehand, the first lady actually put out a statement. You see this? Take a look. She said, I love when Canada's Prime Minister comes to visit because the ties between the US And Canada are incredibly important for global trade, security, and democracy. There's nothing more crucial to the prosperity of the Western Hemisphere than the partnership of our northern neighborhood. As always, I greatly look forward to hosting an intimate one on one with Canada's leader. Then Trump said, it's not Justin Trudeau anymore. And then Melania said, oh, then Mama's gonna slide into Macron's DMs byee. I didn't expect that.
Nate Bargatze
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
Some more political news. Trump's tariffs against China are raising the cost of wedding dresses. It's not good. Now brides are saying yes to the jeggings from Kohl's. Well, listen to this. According to a new report, last week, air traffic controllers at Newark lost all communication with planes for over a minute. It's getting to the point where we really should clap when the plane lands. Some business news. Rite Aid just filed for bankruptcy for the second time in two years. It's not looking good, but other companies are assuring customers that they don't need to worry because they provide the same services as Rite Aid. For example, Walgreens said, don't worry, you can still trigger the world's loudest alarm while trying to buy deodorant. Next up, CVS said, don't worry, you can still find an entire aisle of Halloween decorations in mid July. Up next, Dollar General said, don't worry, you can still watch a raccoon drag a loaf of bread through the automatic door. Next up, 711 said, don't worry, you can still buy eggs while thinking this is a weird place to buy eggs. Then Kroger said, don't worry, you can still get a flu shot while thinking this is a weird place to get a flu shot. And finally, JCPenney said, Don't worry, you can still shop somewhere that will go bankrupt again before you make it out of your car. Nobody needs to worry. Don' hey, get this. I read that Burger King is facing a lawsuit alleging that their Whopper hamburgers are smaller than advertised. Meanwhile, Burger King's legal defense is that the king has divine power and doesn't recognize any courts. Well, guys, tomorrow the conclave to elect a new pope begins. The cardinals will update onlookers using an old tradition where they send up smoke from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel. Different colors of smoke mean different things. For example, black smoke means the cardinals haven't reached a decision, but white smoke means a new pope has been chosen. And then there's also pink smoke, which means it's a girl pope. I didn't know that. Here's another one. Green smoke means the new pope is brat. Next up, yellow smoke means the new pope is a minion. That's synthetic. And finally, steam means the cardinals just hit the sauna. So there you go. It's just so you know what's happening. We have a great show. The very funny Nate Bargetzi is here tonight from the new movie Nonnas. Lorraine Bracco is joining us. Stick around. We'll be right back with Nate. Bargain. I'm all day composing classiques like football day retreating on the wall. Our first guest is a very, very funny comedian. His new book, big Dumb Eyes, Stories from a Simpler Mind, is available now. Please welcome Nate Bargetz. That's gotta feel good, buddy.
Nate Bargatze
That's very nice.
Jimmy Fallon
Welcome back. Look at you. You look sharp, buddy.
Nate Bargatze
Living it up.
Jimmy Fallon
Fancy watch there. Look at the watch you got there.
Nate Bargatze
This is a fun watch. So, you know, I. I like watches. I wear them. I usually buy them for, like, a special, like, thing, like, specials. You gave me a watch when I hosted Saturday Night Live.
Jimmy Fallon
I did special occasions. You buy yourself?
Nate Bargatze
I like to buy as a memorable. This is a little outside of it. This is movie memorabilia. It's Darth Vader's watch. How crazy is that?
Jimmy Fallon
This is Darth Vader's watch.
Nate Bargatze
Darth Vader's watch. So I don't even go, like, it's an investment. I think, you know, it's a good.
Jimmy Fallon
Thing I didn't know Darth Vader wore a watch.
Nate Bargatze
No, he doesn't. Don't ruin it. He doesn't wear a watch. Like, he didn't have a watch on. It's Darth Vader.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you get this online or something?
Nate Bargatze
I got it from a guy.
Jimmy Fallon
You got it from a guy?
Nate Bargatze
This guy. He said it's Darth Vader's watch.
Jimmy Fallon
I understand.
Nate Bargatze
It is Darth Vader's watch.
Jimmy Fallon
Like, right, Like Darth Vader from the movie Star Wars. Like, we're like a DJ from Burning man or something. Is this.
Nate Bargatze
No, that's. You're being ridiculous.
Jimmy Fallon
This is.
Nate Bargatze
And it's Darth Vader's watch.
Jimmy Fallon
This is James Earl Jones. All right, well, James Earl Jones is a dude.
Nate Bargatze
I know. I would have said James Earl Jones. Darth. The guy in the suit. The guy in the suit of Darth Vader. It was the guy. The guy in the.
Jimmy Fallon
The guy that walked around as Darth Vader in the movie. In the movie wore this watch underneath the costume.
Nate Bargatze
I don't know if he had this watch during the filming of that movie, but it's. He later had it. I brought a picture to prove David Prowse. Everybody knows it. He goes, yeah, I got one guy. Hey, you want to buy this watch?
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, you got a photo?
Nate Bargatze
I got a photo. David Prowse. He is here. I'm wearing. He's wearing the watch. Look at that. That's unbelievable. He was in the costume of Darth Vader. You probably recognize him. Wait, is this.
Jimmy Fallon
Is this. First of all.
Nate Bargatze
This is an investment.
Jimmy Fallon
This is off Getty Images. You didn't buy the image Well, I.
Nate Bargatze
Got the watch, Jimmy. Why would I buy the image? It's $375 I got. And that's a. You just show the Internet. You show a picture of the Internet like an old person, and you go, there's the But.
Jimmy Fallon
Is this him on the set of star Wars?
Nate Bargatze
Well, it says right here he's at Heathrow airport. But it's in London. But it's Darth Vader, Nate.
Jimmy Fallon
I think it's a terrible investment.
Nate Bargatze
I don't know. I feel like you've asked more questions than I've asked when I bought this watch. So why are you sucking the fun out of it? No, it's Darth Vader's watch, okay? He knows you know it's Darth Vader.
Jimmy Fallon
It's a beautiful watch. I have a similar watch.
Nate Bargatze
Oh, wow. Where's yours from?
Jimmy Fallon
Do you know the show alf?
Nate Bargatze
All right.
Jimmy Fallon
The guy, the puppeteer who, when alf was behind the couch, he couldn't fit his.
Nate Bargatze
You think it was the right hand?
Jimmy Fallon
No, it wasn't the puppet hand. It was the other hand. He couldn't. The neck is too small to fit.
Nate Bargatze
The one you go, tell me. There's no way.
Jimmy Fallon
Hey, I'm happy that you're here, and I think you look great. I didn't need to get into the whole Darth Vader's watch.
Nate Bargatze
That's amazing.
Jimmy Fallon
But you get to go.
Nate Bargatze
I need you to wear this watch now so I can say, Jimmy Fallon also wore this watch.
Jimmy Fallon
Come on.
Nate Bargatze
Darth Vader and Jimmy Fallon's watch.
Jimmy Fallon
Nate Marguet, you were the highest earning comedian of 2024, by the way. You sold over 1 million tickets.
Nate Bargatze
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
On the be funny tour, they all.
Nate Bargatze
You guys show up. Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
It's a great show. It's unbelievable. And you have a new book out right now and also a new tour starting in May called big dumb eyes.
Nate Bargatze
Yeah. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Thank you. Thank you. It's starting in May.
Nate Bargatze
Starting in May.
Jimmy Fallon
Soon.
Nate Bargatze
Soon.
Jimmy Fallon
And then you're coming over here. You're coming over to New York to do. I am Madison square Garden.
Nate Bargatze
I know, Nate.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a big deal, bud.
Nate Bargatze
That's a crazy deal.
Jimmy Fallon
That's a giant show.
Nate Bargatze
So I've started in New York. So it's a very big deal to come to basketball. We have a great show that we're doing. Three shows. It's in my joy. Mccollough, who's been on the show, is going to be on it. My dad's going to be on the show. If everybody That's Followed my career. Know this. The Tonight show has meant very much, meant a lot to me because I was just doing stand up to now doing Madison Square Garden. So I. I thought it would be very nice. What if. Would you come do the shows with me at Madison Square Garden? I figured.
Jimmy Fallon
Listen.
Nate Bargatze
Why would you not. I don't know. Don't look at your watch. Will you wear it if you do it?
Jimmy Fallon
I don't have an act. I don't.
Nate Bargatze
No, but you have an act. You came. You went to Syracuse and Albany with me. So you've worked it upstate. So I think it's time, you know, it works in Albany and Syracuse. So now it's time to take it to the big top. Dude, this is Madison Square Garden, so. Jimmy, just come out and do the show. Dude, it's gonna be.
Jimmy Fallon
When is. No, I don't know. I gotta. When is it again?
Nate Bargatze
It's in September.
Jimmy Fallon
I can't. September's time.
Nate Bargatze
You're so busy.
Jimmy Fallon
Dude. Yeah. It's my birthday since September.
Nate Bargatze
It'd be Joy and Mikola. My dad.
Jimmy Fallon
I love that. I love that.
Nate Bargatze
Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't know if I can do that part. And then Nate bargets it.
Nate Bargatze
Then I did not walk.
Jimmy Fallon
How much time would I have to do?
Nate Bargatze
Jimmy, you got time. No, no, no.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, how much. How much do you want me to speak?
Nate Bargatze
You don't say it like that. As a comedian. No one says anybody. I want you to do more than speak. No one. You guys give a lecture. Jimmy, come down.
Jimmy Fallon
It's not a TED Talk.
Nate Bargatze
Yeah, no. You be a comedian. Like 20 minutes.
Jimmy Fallon
20 minutes.
Nate Bargatze
You got till September.
Jimmy Fallon
To September. September 26th.
Nate Bargatze
That's 20 minutes.
Jimmy Fallon
I haven't done stand up in 10 years. They don't do stand up anymore, man. But I love you and.
Nate Bargatze
I know, but. Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
You want me to do it?
Nate Bargatze
It would mean you're. Honesty. It's fine.
Jimmy Fallon
I'll do it. Screw it, buddy. I'll do it. There we go.
Nate Bargatze
There we go. Three shows. I do everybody. Oh, man.
Jimmy Fallon
Do impressions.
Lorraine Bracco
What do.
Jimmy Fallon
I have no idea what's happening.
Nate Bargatze
You're able to do it like the people that already have tickets. I mean, look at. Look at this. How fun is this show? This show's going to be fun.
Jimmy Fallon
All right. I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted.
Nate Bargatze
Will you wear this watch on that show? No, no, no.
Jimmy Fallon
I will not wear the. I won't wear a watch. I want to talk about this, by the way. Big Dumb Eyes. Stories From a Simpler Mind. I will Say if you know Nate's act, which I do. You talk about reading and a lot.
Nate Bargatze
Reads a lot. It's the most words.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. Reading is. Reading is a lot. For you.
Nate Bargatze
Reading is a lot.
Jimmy Fallon
And so you. Honestly, any fan would be psyched that you put in blank pages.
Nate Bargatze
Yeah, I did in the book. So, yeah. I have a joke where I say I think books should come with blank pages just to let me get my head above water. And so I. In my book. I can't believe you made a book.
Jimmy Fallon
That has blank pages.
Nate Bargatze
We give you a break. When you're reading it, you take it.
Jimmy Fallon
So funny.
Nate Bargatze
Take your time.
Jimmy Fallon
So funny. Did they get mad at you for doing that?
Nate Bargatze
I had to talk them into it, to be honest. But so funny. They said they've never done that.
Jimmy Fallon
You sure you want.
Nate Bargatze
But I go, I think this is the new way it's going to go. If I could ever get a book with all blank pages, that's the ultimate.
Jimmy Fallon
That's the ultimate goal.
Nate Bargatze
That's the ultimate.
Jimmy Fallon
I know that you are a big golf fan. You write about golf in the book. You got to do something very cool recently. You got to play with Rory McElroy.
Nate Bargatze
I did.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, it was. Yeah, you were.
Nate Bargatze
He's awesome. Dude.
Jimmy Fallon
What was this? Arnold Palmer?
Nate Bargatze
Yeah, it was Arnold Palmer's. The pro am. Just two. Look at that. Just two dudes, man, just playing golf.
Jimmy Fallon
That's not two dudes, man. That's Rory McElroy and you.
Nate Bargatze
I know, two. Just in shape. In shape. I'm wearing that shirt to confuse everybody from my body because it's like, got so much stuff on it that everybody's like, they dedicated. They go, is he. They go like, is he in shape? You're like, I don't like a kid. It's like one of those pictures you stare at and you're just trying to see a boat.
Jimmy Fallon
That's the shirt you wore.
Nate Bargatze
Yeah, that's the shirt I wore.
Jimmy Fallon
Did you get tips from Rory?
Nate Bargatze
I did. I mean, he tells you. He told me how to putt. It's like, he says it and you're like, I don't know. You know, it's hard to take tips from someone at that level.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Nate Bargatze
Because it just. He can't dumb it down enough. So he's like, you know, he's like, just putt like this. And you're like. I just politely go, all right. And then I just like, do what you do. Yeah. Then you're like, I don't know what he was saying.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. But then here's another photo that I thought was very interesting is you and Rory. And I just want to know, why is he holding the umbrella for you? He's the Grand Slam winner. He's the Masters champ.
Nate Bargatze
This was pre Grand Slam, so I think I was the top dog on that one. Obviously. Now, I don't think he would do it as a Grand Slam. It would be hard for me to get him to hold the umbrella now.
Jimmy Fallon
This is unbelievable. This should never have happened.
Nate Bargatze
I didn't look. He did not have a green jacket at that point. So.
Jimmy Fallon
Gosh, Rory. Yeah. Also, I've shown this on the show. I know you're a big fan of Tiger woods, as am I. Yeah. And you said, yeah, you met Tiger woods and you have a photo. And I beg to differ, because this is the photo of you. You showed me of you and Tiger Woods.
Nate Bargatze
Yeah, I met him.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. This does not look like you two are in the same.
Nate Bargatze
Tiger woods is one of my best friends.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, right. He's one of your best friends.
Nate Bargatze
He was there.
Jimmy Fallon
He's looking in a different direction. You look like you're split screen. This looks like half of this never happened. This looks like that is one photo. And then you added that or something.
Nate Bargatze
No, I never added that.
Jimmy Fallon
I don't think you ever met Tiger woods, to be honest.
Nate Bargatze
Me and Tiger are dear friends. I mean, don't bring it up to him, but we are great friends. He goes. I mean, don't let me be there if you ever meet him and introduce and say, what happened.
Jimmy Fallon
What did you discuss here?
Nate Bargatze
What did we not discuss? Tiger woods wore this wop.
Jimmy Fallon
That's not true at all.
Nate Bargatze
He goes, look.
Jimmy Fallon
That's not true.
Nate Bargatze
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
Well, look, you're such a big fan, I thought that we would maybe take one more shot at a photo of you together with Tiger.
Nate Bargatze
Oh, wow.
Jimmy Fallon
And this time.
Nate Bargatze
Oh, wow.
Jimmy Fallon
This time I'll make it more realistic. Yeah, there you go. I'm going to make it more. Where do you want to stand? Maybe you there. You want Tiger.
Nate Bargatze
Oh, I thought you were, like, gonna bring out Tiger for real.
Jimmy Fallon
Kind of did. I guess I kind of did bring out Tiger for real. Wait, hold on. Where's the original photo? I want to make sure this looks nothing like that. All right, so your hands are in your pockets.
Nate Bargatze
I'm looking.
Jimmy Fallon
Yep. Tiger's not looking like you're looking off that at something over there. Yeah, get closer. Can we get. Zoom in. Zoom in a little bit. Oh, that's good. No. Oh, you're gonna. No. Now it looks like, he's talking. No, now it looks like he's dissipating.
Nate Bargatze
You mean do your hands?
Jimmy Fallon
No, I don't do my hands. I don't do my hands. No. Just maybe put your arms around his waist or something. Yeah, that looks good.
Nate Bargatze
My buddy Tiger.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, that's good. That's pretty good. Should I get over? I'll get over on this side. Nate Bar gets everybody his new book. Big Dumb Eyes is available now. It's a great gift for Marcus. Mother's Day, Father's Day. It's available now. Nate and I are doing something fun after the break. Stick around, everybody. That's how you wood. Our next guest is an Oscar and Emmy nominated actress who stars in the new Netflix film Nonnas, which begins streaming this Friday. Please welcome Lorraine Bracco.
Lorraine Bracco
Hello, my darling.
Jimmy Fallon
Welcome back to the show. I love having you on. You're gorgeous as always. How's the family? How's everybody doing?
Lorraine Bracco
Good, good. The grandkids are the best.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, they are.
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah. Oscar just got a haircut. He looks like an old man. He's 16 months.
Jimmy Fallon
That's so cute.
Lorraine Bracco
I'm like, what did you do to him?
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah. I got to see you over the summer. Yes. In Long island in the Hamptons.
Lorraine Bracco
Yes. Can I embarrass you for a minute? You don't mind, right?
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Lorraine Bracco
So we met outside with your wife and your children, who are lovely and beautiful, and we talked and we fooled around. And then at the end, I just wanted you to know that. Come on. Come on.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Lorraine Bracco
I turned around and I said to you, you make me so happy.
Jimmy Fallon
You did do that. I'll never forget it. I'll never forget it.
Lorraine Bracco
It was true. But it's true.
Jimmy Fallon
It was in the side. We were on the sidewalk and you grabbed me and go, hey.
Lorraine Bracco
He makes me happy.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, I love it. Oh, stop.
Lorraine Bracco
See, I. I'm not alone.
Jimmy Fallon
No, I want to. I want to get in. This is about you tonight. This is about you tonight. I want to talk about your new movie. No. No. So first off, I wanted to get into a couple things. One is I saw this interview magazine from 2001 with Destiny's Child, and they were interviewed by you, Lorraine Bracco, for Interview magazine. This is when Destiny's Child went to therapy with Tony Soprano's shrink.
Nate Bargatze
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
What do you remember from this?
Lorraine Bracco
They were so delightful. They were, you know, they all have that fabulous, you know, Dallas Texan accent, of course, opposite of me. And they were delightful and warm and lovely and it was so crazy. I remember they opened up about racism.
Nate Bargatze
Oh, really?
Lorraine Bracco
They were young, they were beautiful. And they said they were on some airline and they were really rude to them. They were like, oh, no, you're not in first class. Something really crazy like that. And so we talked about what it is, you know, to be a young, up and coming, beautiful, you know, singer and how that made them feel.
Jimmy Fallon
It was really quite intense being honest about that.
Lorraine Bracco
Absolutely.
Jimmy Fallon
So young, too. And now look what they've become.
Lorraine Bracco
I think they have their own planes now. It's okay.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah, yeah, they do. Yeah, they do. Yeah. You've done so many iconic roles. Everyone yells on the street. They probably call you, you know, karen or I get it. Or Doc.
Lorraine Bracco
I get doc a lot. It's funny. And, you know, when people first started to do it, I'd be looking around, who are they yelling at? Oh, it's me. Oh, hi. It was very funny.
Jimmy Fallon
I mean, do you like. You just went to something called Paisan Khan?
Lorraine Bracco
Yes.
Jimmy Fallon
What is paisan Khan?
Lorraine Bracco
It's where a lot of us went to sign autographs and meet people and take pictures. And they did. Was they built Melie's office?
Jimmy Fallon
No.
Lorraine Bracco
So, you know, I sat in my chair and then people got to come and sit in the make believe Tony chair. And, you know, it was just. They were crazy. They loved it.
Jimmy Fallon
It's so fun that you do that. I mean, it was fun. You must be the queen of that. If I ever saw Lorraine bracco at pazanka, I would freak out.
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah, it's crazy. It was crazy.
Jimmy Fallon
You still have the place in Sicily, by the way.
Lorraine Bracco
I do do, yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
I want to come visit that place.
Lorraine Bracco
Come on.
Jimmy Fallon
I was going to go to some Lorraine Bracco stories, if you don't mind, and tell me if any of these are true or if there's any truth at all. You were originally considered for the roles of Carmela soprano in the sopranos and Mona Lisa Vito in my cousin Vinny.
Lorraine Bracco
True.
Nate Bargatze
Really?
Jimmy Fallon
They wanted you for those roles and why didn't you do my cousin Vinny?
Lorraine Bracco
I had just did a movie with Sean Connery and I was in the jungles in Mexico for five, six months, and I came back and I was. And I had parasites and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And yeah, and I said, I don't have anything to, you know, no energy. Yeah. I had nothing. And I had to say no.
Jimmy Fallon
And so you said no to that? Yeah, it's tough to say that. And then they wanted you for Carmela?
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah, he wanted to meet me. He just really wanted to meet me. And I went in. I had read the script, which I really loved. And I went in saying to myself, get Dr. Melfi.
Jimmy Fallon
That's what you wanted.
Lorraine Bracco
I wanted it.
Jimmy Fallon
And you nailed it. You got it and you crushed about it. You're the best.
Nate Bargatze
Good for you.
Lorraine Bracco
Thank you.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, how about this one?
Lorraine Bracco
So where are we going?
Jimmy Fallon
All right. When you saw how the Sopranos ended, you didn't love it at first.
Nate Bargatze
Well, you know, when it went to black.
Lorraine Bracco
When it went to black, I'll tell you the truth. I was sitting next to Jimmy Gandolfini, and he just went like this.
Nate Bargatze
That's it.
Lorraine Bracco
That's it.
Nate Bargatze
Wow.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Lorraine Bracco
And you know how he always used to push his hair back and he just walked out.
Jimmy Fallon
Really? Yeah.
Lorraine Bracco
He was like, that's it. He was like. He couldn't believe it.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Lorraine Bracco
I said, yeah, I guess that's it.
Jimmy Fallon
And now looking back, do you still feel like that was not the way it should have been? Who knows?
Lorraine Bracco
Again, you know, the only thing I can say is people are still talking about it. So I guess David did do something interesting.
Jimmy Fallon
Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. We're always wondering. Yeah. How about this right here? Robert De Niro first suggested Goodfellas to you even before Martin Scorsese reached out to you about it.
Lorraine Bracco
He told me to read the book.
Jimmy Fallon
Really?
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah. Wise guys. Nick Pileggi's wise guys. He said, go get that book. Okay.
Jimmy Fallon
You crushed it, man. Oh, my gosh. I love de niro. Leonardo DiCaprio called you personally to convince you to play his mother in the Basketball Diaries.
Lorraine Bracco
He's young, you know, I don't really remember that, but I remember meeting with him, and I said, look, you're a nice guy. You're a nice guy. But there's three lines. What do you want me to do with this? He said, don't look at the script. We'll make it up. We'll do it. We'll improv. Say whatever you want. We'll do it. I want you to be. And you know what was so interesting? He said, I want you to be like my mom.
Jimmy Fallon
Wow.
Lorraine Bracco
So all the. You know, all of the scenes that we did were, like, totally improvised.
Jimmy Fallon
You and Leah?
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
And he's the best.
Lorraine Bracco
He's the best. Trust me. And remember, he was young at the time. I was gonna say, yeah, he was a baby.
Jimmy Fallon
But look at him saying, don't look at the script.
Lorraine Bracco
We'll improvise. And he had a very cute ass. I remember as he. I was.
Jimmy Fallon
All right. Very nice. Okay, here we go. All right, well, we love him for his acting, though, right, everybody?
Lorraine Bracco
I'm sure a lot of people love him for a lot of things.
Jimmy Fallon
All right, let's talk about. Let's talk about Nona's. Let's talk about Nona's.
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon
By the way, you crush it in this film. It's based on a true story. It's real.
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah. It's adorable. I love the film. I'm so happy with it, you know, the fact that it's a true story and that it's a restaurant in Staten Island. And this man, Joe, he was devastated when his mom and his grandma passed and he inherited a couple of bucks, and he decided to honor them by opening up a restaurant that he knows nothing about.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Lorraine Bracco
Nothing.
Jimmy Fallon
Zero. Nothing, zero. But he wants all nonas, all grandmas to come and do their authentic cooking.
Lorraine Bracco
Right. So at the time, it wasn't Craigslist. It was like an Italian newspaper. He put an add in for Nonna's that liked to cook.
Jimmy Fallon
Yeah.
Lorraine Bracco
And so they all came and they came with their dishes, and they wanted him to try them and so that he would hire them.
Jimmy Fallon
And then the cookbook. The restaurant took off. He has a cookbook? That's right.
Lorraine Bracco
Very small restaurant on Staten Island. And now he has nonnas of the world, which is great. He's got, like, Japanese nonnas in there and polish.
Jimmy Fallon

Lorraine Bracco

Jimmy Fallon

Lorraine Bracco
You know, I have to tell you the truth. I was in the hotel plaza for the last 10 days doing pretzel, and I didn't have a kitchen, so I asked my friend Vin to do it. So he made them I gave him, and he's been asking me for my recipe for a long time, so I finally gave it to him.
Jimmy Fallon
This is phenomenal.
Lorraine Bracco
Yeah, they're good.
Jimmy Fallon
I should also say nona's has a great cast. Ah, you have Vince Vaughn.
Lorraine Bracco

Jimmy Fallon

Nate Bargatze
Who?
Jimmy Fallon
We love his acting.
Lorraine Bracco
No, he let me. Did you just do this? I love. Listen, these guys were so great. And, you know, I never made a comedy before, so I was really nervous. No Goodfellas. Courtney's funny. Yeah. Not funny.
Jimmy Fallon
No. Those were great.
Lorraine Bracco
So I was so nervous when we went to the read throughs, I was like, oh, God. I kept telling to Vince and the director, Stephen Trebatt.
Jimmy Fallon
Oh, he's a great director.
Lorraine Bracco

Jimmy Fallon
No, you're phenomenal in it. It's actually great.
Lorraine Bracco
They were so great about Vince was like, trust, you can do it. I know it. We have all the time in the world, which we never did, but we're gonna get it. And he was so delightful.
