Hey, my friend, have you ever heard the quote that there are a lot of people dumber than you that already have what you want? I recently went to Las Vegas and spoke to a group of franchisees, and we were talking about success. And in this video, I. I'm going to share with you three simple things that could change everything for you. I know that sounds hyperbolic or exaggeratory, but it's really actually true. Because the reality is there are a lot of people dumber than you that already have what you want. So what's going on? What's going on in your brain? Because the root problem starts in the brain. And one of the things I was talking to these franchisees about was these three secrets. If you want to call it that. I had a conversation with a friend of mine named Brad Gibb. He's a former Goldman Sachs investment banker, super giant nerd, one of the smartest people I know. And he told me one time years ago, he said, josh, the only difference between high achievers and everybody else are three things. I'll tell you what they are up front, then I'm going to break your brain, rearrange the furniture in your head to challenge you to think different. Because one of the things that bothers me is how many really good people just struggle. And a lot of bad people or worse people, at least they just win. Have you ever noticed that narcissistic people just win financially in business. And I don't think the answer for you is to become a narcissist. Of course not. But it has to do with these three things. Here's what they are. The first one is mindsets. Then we have skill sets, then we have network. So if you look at anybody ahead of you or any high achiever really in any industry or domain, they fundamentally have upgraded mindset, skill sets and network, period. But you can have those things too. But I think what happens, at least with the thousand plus business owners I've worked with personally over the last 15 years, is we try to solve the wrong problem. This is really common. You know how in western medicine we just treat the symptom instead of the root cause? Right. My back hurts. So we just give people pain pills where eastern medicine, which I'm not an expert on, they try to figure out a more holistic approach. Right. So if you're trying to hire a marketing agency or make some new hire, that's going to save your day, we're actually just giving yourself a pain pill to fix your, your achy back. And it's the wrong way to look at it. So when it comes to mindsets, here's, here's a couple of things to think about. Identity, belief and fopo. So I worked with a gentleman years ago named Brian Hegarty. Amazing guy, he's from New Jersey. If you know anybody from New Jersey, they tell it like it is. They're very blunt. And it's this weird combination of insane aggressive bluntness mixed with being a warm teddy bear because he's a lovable guy. And Brian went from around 3 or $400,000 a year to 3 to $400,000 a month. And it happened really fast. But the thing is, is that he had already been in business for over 20 years before he had these epiphanies with his mindset. You see, Brian was a smart guy, insanely hard worker. He was seasoned with business. When I started working with him, his attitude was a little bit negative. He told me a story one time we went to a business conference and he was complaining about employees. And Ellen Rohr, who's another well known business consultant, told him, who the heck would want to work for you? And he got up from the table all mad and stormed off. But that was like a core pivot in his brain. And then as I worked with him and as Brian did his own self work, what ended up happening was he had an identity shift, his beliefs changed and he started to kill fopo. So let's talk about that for you. Who do you think you are? What do you think you deserve? Right, let's start there. When I was talking to these franchisees, you see a lot of people that buy franchises, I call them in betweenpreneurs, and it's because their left foot comes out of the corporate world with an employee mindset, and their right foot is in this new franchise opportunity. And this tension sabotages their success. Success, because if you worked a job in your past, you were kind of told what to do and the company provided for you, and you might have really been annoyed by your boss, but you were trained to think linear. You were also trained to be a cog in a wheel. Being an entrepreneur is you have to create and build a wheel that didn't previously exist at all. And you have to believe that you're worthy of success in the first place. And I know that sounds Tony Robbins cheesy wheezy, but it's 100% true. A lot of business owners operate with an orphan mindset. What does that mean? Well, it means that they feel like they're only worthy of this, but while they're simultaneously trying to build a machine that is this valuable up here and this gap between, it ruins everything. This is why 80% of lottery winners go bankrupt within three to five years of winning the lottery, because their identity of who they are can't sustain the weight of that level of success. And I see this day in and day out. So I want you to ask yourself, do you even consider yourself an entrepreneur right now? Are you trying to just survive or are you running towards a future vision? You know, with the franchisees as an example, again, usually they're running away from something, trying to escape a job they hate when they buy the franchise, when they start their business. I see this all the time. If you're just running away from something versus running towards something, a vision for your life. I mean, we love Jesus around here. We're Christian entrepreneurs. You can't separate it. It's all mixed together. If you actually believe and are fully persuaded in your heart that God has a mission and a mandate and a purpose for your life. If you believe in your heart, you're fully persuaded that everything God made, he made to grow and expand. The Bible says that before the foundations of the world, God created good works for you to do. We also know from the parable of the talents that whatever it is in your hand, like your business, whatever resources and people and assets you have right now, it's already a fact that you're supposed to multiply it. You know, the way the economy works and your business works is like a garden. And to use the garden analogy, your mind is a garden. And what happens is, maybe it's your high school guidance counselor, maybe it was your Uncle Joe growing up. It could be your parents at Thanksgiving dinners telling you to get a real job, telling you that you weren't that smart, telling you, you know, to stop living in the clouds and put your feet back on the ground. You know, these types of things, believing that time is money. Money doesn't grow on trees. These things are like weeds growing in your brain. And let's touch back on narcissism for a second. You see, the reason narcissistic people are so successful is because they legitimately think they're amazing and that they deserve everything. What if I told you that you actually deserve and are worthy of the success that you're pursuing? You see, if I could push a button and you believed that to be true, everything about your whole life would immediately pivot for the better. Immediately. Because the war that's happening is happening between your ears. My company is called Warplan. And it's not because we're obsessed with death and war and tanks and fighter jets, although fighter jets are pretty cool. It's because it's a mental war and we're tired of seeing really good hearted salt of the earth people struggle. So I want you to think about this mindset, skill sets and network and with your mindsets, it's an identity and a belief thing. And then the third part about mindsets is killing fopo. The real reason you're stuck isn't because Facebook ad costs went up or because the United States Postal Service mishandled your direct mail postcards or something. The real reason you're stuck is because of fear, overwhelm, procrastination and overthinking. Because there's literal cognitive dissonance happening in your brain almost every day. Because you're building a growth plan to hit 2 million to hit 5.1. You're building this thing while simultaneously not feeling worthy of it, not believing it's possible for you because of all the weeds that are in the garden of your mind. We gotta uproot those. We have to replace them with promises, with new beliefs. Promises from God, right? So think about that. When it comes to skill sets, these high achieving people, they're not geniuses. Like I said in the beginning, there's so many people dumber than you that Already have what you want. Quote I like is never meet your heroes. Because when you meet someone you look up to, you're going to be disappointed. You know why? Because they're not that great. They're really good at mindset, skill sets and network, but they're not like that great at other stuff. You can grill a burger better than them. You could probably play a board game and beat them. They're just average. They might not be that good of a dad, but they're really good at business. Because of the mindset, skill sets and network, they're painfully average. That's what Never Meet yout Heroes means. When it comes to skill sets, you have to get the math right. Write this down, screenshot this, think about this, but here it comes. Math is the path. High achievers have an abnormal understanding of their metrics and their numbers compared to everybody else. If I call certain high achievers and I say, what's your cost per lead? What's your conversion rate? What's your close rate? What's your average ticket? They would just know the answer to that. Where most small business owners avoid the numbers because it gives them anxiety. They don't want to look at the fact that they might be failing. They don't want to have to have a confrontational conversation with a team member. And they stick their head in the sand on a variety of issues. But math is the bedrock and foundation of every business. Every business is an arithmetic business. They're all the same. So the second one is marketing. So when it comes to skill sets, you have to view yourself as a marketer. And I have a news flash for you. Whether you realize it or not, that's already what you are right now. I'm not saying you should become a marketer. I'm telling you, you already are a marketer. But we gotta get good at it. And the hardest person to market to in the entire world is yourself. Is it possible for me to be successful in my industry, in my market? Is it possible specifically for me to have success? These are conversations subconsciously happening in your head all the time. And the answer that you would give yourself is the predictor of your future success. Because I'm here to tell you, you definitely do have what it takes. I know what it takes. And it's not some mystery. It's not some secret unicorn fairy dust. You don't have to be a Harvard MBA that comes from a trust fund. You don't need to be in some massive market. Your business can make more profit and create more freedom for you. Than you could ever imagine and it's right under your nose. But we got to become a marketer. You know, we have the identity stuff with the mindsets, then with, with skill sets. It's marketing and math. Let's talk about network. I had an event here at our studio and hopefully maybe one day you can come to an event. We do them periodically. Sometimes we have VIP days and people come here and get headshots and we make videos. We just mastermind and laugh and cry together. It's pretty epic. And I said the quote, it's not what you know, it's who you know. And one of our attendees corrected me and I've been thinking about this, he said, no, Josh, it's not who you know, it's who knows. You think about this for a second. It's not what you know, it's not what you know, it's who you know that's wrong. It's not what you know, it's who knows you. So with networking, what happens is especially with local business owners, there are 50 or 70 or 83 other local businesses in your actual market right now, all having the same problems and struggles that you are. But none of these people talk to each other or when they do talk to each other, they're just getting frustrated. They're not trying to build a real relationship, they're just saying, oh, this guy, maybe he'll refer me some work. And then when it doesn't happen, the relationship dies. If you had an upgraded mindset and identity and you started really digging into the scary numbers and you started actually leading just the people in your own local market to collaborate, you could probably double or triple your business for free. But people don't actually market or I'm sorry, people, but people don't actually network because they're focused continuously on short term games. And here's the principle that's valuable for you. Amateurs focus on the front end, professionals focus on the back end. Look, business is not easy if you're married with kids and you mix it all together. It's very difficult. But you have to be long term minded. And the highest achieving people in the world have decades long relationships with people where they never even asked for a favor because they know that there's going to come a day when there's a seven figure joint venture that's going to happen. And if it does, it does, and if it doesn't, it doesn't. They strategically become friends with the right people with a long time horizon in mind. So I want you to think about that right? There's a lot of people dumber than you that already have what you want. Are you solving the right problem in your business? I'll give you a couple hacks too, as I sign off on how to actually make these changes real for you. Here's the first one. You gotta focus on getting in the right room. Proximity is power. One of the cool things about up leveling your belief and your identity is that belief can be borrowed. And so when you're running your business, it feels like you're living on an island all by yourself. There's so much noise that you can't hear the signal. You know, there's a difference between a signal and noise. And you're hearing noise from marketers, from agencies, from gurus in your industry watching YouTube videos. It's just noise, noise, noise. To uproot the weeds in your garden of your brain, we need proximity around people that care about you, that are ahead of you, that believe in you more than you believe in you. And for you to get in a room like that, it takes money and time. It takes a decision. But that's the biggest shortcut, right? Because it doesn't happen in five minutes. It doesn't. I'll level with you. I've invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in my own education network and it's changed my life. But it didn't happen instantly. It takes time. So think about proximity. The second suggestion I have to make these changes real for you is to be a better curator of your eyes and your ears. Because if your mind is a garden, and it is, you gotta be careful on what you let have access to that garden. And this includes content like this content right now. It includes what you read, what you watch. If you just watch NFL football and you doom scroll on TikTok, everything's gonna go slower. You might get stuck forever in a negative loop. So I don't want that for you. I hope this video is useful for you. Because the reality is you're far more powerful and capable than you could possibly ever imagine. But maybe you have an orphan mindset, Maybe you don't know who you are or whose you are and these are the real things to change. And despite all the bull crap on the Internet about this tool and that software, and use red, not blue, and use this headline, and here's the AI automation hack, all of those things are noise. Despite a technical hiccup that nearly prevented this episode from airing, host William steps in to present Joshua's insightful discourse. The episode unpacks three pivotal elements—mindset, skill sets, and network—that distinguish high achievers from the rest. Through personal anecdotes, expert insights, and actionable strategies, Joshua equips listeners with the tools to transform their business approach and mindset.
1. Introduction to the Mental War of Business
Timestamp: [00:05]
Joshua sets the stage by likening business success to a mental war. He emphasizes that making money is fundamentally a game that begins in the mind. The core message revolves around "weaponizing your brain" through advanced concepts in marketing, mindset, and money. He asserts:
"Your business is a mental war. Your success is a mental war. And making money is a game. And the game of money starts in your mind."
— Joshua Latimer [00:05]
This introduction underscores the importance of mental fortitude and strategic thinking in achieving business triumphs.
2. The Episode That Almost Never Was
Timestamp: [00:40]
William, managing the social media aspect of Warplan, shares an anecdote about a technical issue that corrupted Joshua's YouTube video. Despite this setback, William ensures that listeners still receive the valuable content Joshua prepared. He remarks:
"This episode, you guys are going to get to listen to the episode that almost never was. So I hope you guys enjoy."
— William [00:40]
This segment highlights the resilience and adaptability of the Warplan team in delivering quality content despite challenges.
3. The Three Pillars of Success: Mindset, Skill Sets, and Network
Timestamp: [01:16]
Joshua introduces the three essential components that differentiate high achievers from others: mindset, skill sets, and network. Drawing from his experience with over a thousand business owners, he explains that many entrepreneurs address symptoms rather than root causes in their businesses. He critiques the common approach of hiring external solutions (like marketing agencies) as mere "pain pills" rather than addressing fundamental issues.
a. Mindset
Joshua delves into the significance of mindset, breaking it down into identity, belief, and overcoming fear, overwhelm, procrastination, and overthinking (FOMO). He shares the transformation story of Brian Hegarty, who shifted from earning $400,000 annually to $400,000 monthly after a profound identity and belief overhaul. Joshua emphasizes:
"To have what others don't, you need to know what others won't."
— Joshua Latimer [Throughout]
He discusses the "orphan mindset," where individuals feel only somewhat worthy of success, likening it to lottery winners who often go bankrupt due to unsustainable self-perceptions.
b. Skill Sets
Joshua asserts that skill sets revolve around mastering math and marketing. He stresses that:
"Math is the path. High achievers have an abnormal understanding of their metrics and their numbers compared to everybody else."
— Joshua Latimer [Skill Sets Section]
Understanding metrics like cost per lead, conversion rates, and average ticket sizes is crucial. Moreover, he posits that everyone is inherently a marketer, whether they realize it or not. Mastery over marketing strategies is indispensable for business growth.
c. Network
In the network segment, Joshua challenges the conventional wisdom of "it's not what you know, it's who you know." He refines this by stating:
"It's not what you know, it's who knows you."
— Joshua Latimer [Network Section]
He explains that building meaningful relationships and being known in your industry or locality can exponentially boost business prospects. Joshua advocates for long-term, strategic networking over short-term, transactional interactions.
4. Overcoming Common Business Pitfalls
Joshua highlights that many business owners mistakenly focus on superficial solutions, likening it to Western medicine treating symptoms rather than the root cause. He encourages entrepreneurs to address internal barriers—like identity and beliefs—to unlock true potential. By doing so, they can overcome common struggles that competent individuals face while less deserving ones thrive.
5. Practical Hacks for Business Transformation
Timestamp: [End Sections]
To translate theory into practice, Joshua offers actionable hacks:
a. Focus on Getting in the Right Room (Proximity is Power)
He underscores the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded, supportive individuals who believe in your vision. Proximity to such a network can catalyze growth and provide the necessary support to navigate business challenges.
b. Curate Your Media Intake (Be a Better Curator of Your Eyes and Ears)
Joshua advises entrepreneurs to be selective about their consumption of information. Just as a garden needs weeding, the mind requires filtering out negative or unproductive inputs. By curating positive and relevant content, business owners can foster a more conducive mental environment for success.
6. The WarPlan Coaching Invitation
Concluding the episode, Joshua extends an invitation to listeners to join Warplan Coaching. He outlines the benefits, including access to exclusive courses, a private community, in-person meetups, monthly Q&A sessions, and a private weekly newsletter filled with money-making tips. Notably, he mentions that joining is free, making it an accessible resource for those committed to transforming their business mindset.
Conclusion
"The Episode That Almost Never Was" serves as a comprehensive guide for entrepreneurs seeking to elevate their business through mental and strategic enhancements. Joshua Latimer's insights into mindset, skill sets, and networking provide a roadmap for overcoming barriers and achieving sustained success. By addressing both internal and external factors, the episode empowers listeners to reframe their approach to business, ensuring they are not just participants in the game of money but strategists poised for victory.
