Welcome to the who It Where Podcast, your direct line to the designers, stylists, beauty experts, editors and tastemakers who are shaping the ever evolving world of fashion. I'm who It Wears shopping director Bobby Schessler, and today I'm joined by our associate director of special projects, Kristen Nichols to talk all things Spring shopping. Our spring issue went live last week and Kristin has co written an exhaustive shopping guide with everything you need to freshen up your your wardrobe. So of course I've hauled her in for an episode so we can break it all down. We're talking about how to actually incorporate the trends we've seen on the Runway into your wardrobe and which brands at every price point can help you get there. Plus, we're talking about how to style spring colors in a fresh way, tips for buying oversized pieces, and a whole lot more. Check out our spring shopping guide in the episode description for some serious inspiration for your spring wardrobe. It's all coming up on who, what, where. Hi Kristen. Thank you for joining me again. I feel like we always have so much fun when we chat together.
Kristen Nichols
Always. Hi Bobbi.
Bobby Schessler
Okay, so we're just one day out from the official start of spring, which sounds crazy. So we're obviously starting to think about what to add to our spring wardrobes. So to start, let's recap from what we saw in the Spring Summ 2025 shows, which I know we chatted about. Did you make any predictions that you're starting to see come true this season and starting to trickle down into the market?
Kristen Nichols
You know, I feel like, it's always interesting seeing what's on the Runway, you know, six months ahead, and then what are people actually wearing? And so I think we made some predictions that rang true. One is this nostalgia, and it's really coalesced around fashion from the 1960s. I wrote a story recently about how even, like, the New York downt is suddenly dressing kind of like Audrey Hepburn, and they have their little pillbox hats and their gloves, and, you know, the people you think of as the coolest, most directional dressers are taking notes from this more nostalgic fashion, which I think is really fun. I have yet to try the pillbox.
Bobby Schessler
Hat, but, yeah, I haven't either. I know a lot of the editors have. It's very, very chic. So I'm very into it.
Kristen Nichols
Yeah. So on the runways, we saw this at Michael Kors, Valentino, Celine, and a lot of celebs have been embrace. Embracing it as well. I think about some of Kendall Jenner's looks from Couture Fashion Week in Paris, where she was wearing, like, a gray skirt suit, and it just felt very elegant and of another era. So it's everywhere from the downtown set in New York to Kendall Jenner in Paris to the runways, and I think it's definitely sticking around. I think another thing that is interesting is this return of really more romantic style. It's something I think of as very, like, sweet and pretty, but it hasn't necessarily felt, quote, unquote, cool in a while. So we're seeing this big return of a lot of pastels. Specifically, we've been talking a lot about this shade of powder pink, but pastels in general are returning in a big way, which is interesting, I think, because there's just been this, like, minimalism for so long where people only want to wear neutrals. And even myself, someone that wears a lot of neutrals, I'm, like, getting a little bored of it. So I think having a little more color feels really fresh and fun. And we're also seeing it in the form of really beautiful floral prints and obviously, you know, groundbreaking florals for spring. But, you know, it does feel a little different this time around. If we look to Loewe or even Victoria Beckham, there were just these more avant garde shapes, and they were just interpreted in a different way. And then this is, like, less of a trend you can identify. But I think we're really seeing this strong comeback of personal style and individuality, which is something that Mrs. Prada and Raf Simmons talked about in the show notes for the Prada spring, summer 2025 show, and that call to action of bringing back personal style, they described it as anti algorithm style. So it's not necessarily like fitting into some really chic formula or way of dressing, but making looks your own. So we've talked about this before, but we're seeing the bag charms continue. Sculptural belts, pendant necklaces, tassels are suddenly everywhere. So people are taking simple looks and then just like, adding a little something to make them stand out a bit, which I'm really into.
Bobby Schessler
And, you know, I love a bag charm, so I'm very happy that that is continuing on. Okay, so let's go into some shopping recs. So let's start with the 60s nostalgia trend and that elegant form of dressing. So you mentioned pillbox hats, tights, gloves, skirt suits. Where can people shop to get this look?
Kristen Nichols
Yeah, as I mentioned, the skirt suit is a really easy way to wear this if you're looking for more of, like, an outfit that leans into that trend. There's a really great one from Aritzia right now that has this kind of, like, peplum shape blazer that's a little bit sculptural. So I think that's really fun. It's in that specific gray color I've been seeing a lot. And then if you're looking for something that you'll invest in and have in your closet for years and years, there's nothing quite as iconic or classic as the Dior bar jacket, which, whether you're buying it new or vintage, it really was what established the new look in the 50s. And so I think those are on either end of the spectrum in terms of your budget. Great options, great.
Bobby Schessler
I'm excited to check out this Aritzia vibe. I also feel like peplums were huge for the fall 2025 shows, so you'll be even more ahead with that.
Kristen Nichols
Yes. And then another piece I'm very bullish about is the car coat. I wore one last season for, like, a street style, you know, fashion week look. And I've been loving it since then. And I think it's just one of those classic, iconic pieces that does feel very 60s, but very modern as well. The one I had was from a New York brand I Love called Lafayette148. And then there are really great ones across the board on the lower end, price wise. Madewell has some really great ones. And then I think of brands in the designer space like Prada and Miu Miu that always have great versions of this in their collections. I think in General, because it is looking to another era of fashion. There are just so many great vintage options as well. So if you love to hunt for pieces on ebay like I do, this is a great moment to do some shopping in that space. I know a lot of our editors, speaking of wearing pillbox hats, have found some great vintage options. But then there are also brands like Gigi Burris who specialize in beautiful hats that have great options. And even a more minimal brand like Totem has some really nice options.
Bobby Schessler
Totally. So in terms of styling, when we're talking about the 60s vibe, are we doing like a full 60s vibe, or is it more incorporating standalone pieces into the look? What are your thoughts?
Kristen Nichols
At least my approach is that I never want to look like I'm wearing a costume, per se. So I think adding elements of the look into more modern outfits, like a car coat, for example, is a pretty easy thing to wear. The coat can almost be its own outfit just with a pair of slingback heels. Or you could even style a mini skirt and a little T shirt under it to bring it to a more modern space. And then the thing I haven't tried yet that I am still a little daunted by is the pillbox hat. So I saw a great outfit someone was wearing in Paris recently that was just a beautiful tailored blazer and a pair of trousers and then some strappy heels and the pillbox hat. And I thought that was just such a cute way to wear it, where, again, you don't want it to be something where you could wear it on Halloween, but that fits into your everyday, but adds that little fun personality piece into the mix.
Bobby Schessler
Love. So switching gears a little bit, you spoke about this cool girl romance, return of Boho. We saw this especially in Shamina Kamali's debut collection at Chloe a year ago, And I feel like I'm seeing so many more romantic, billowing silhouettes, like, across retailers. What items are you seeing more and more of? And what brands do you recommend checking out to get this vibe?
Kristen Nichols
So I think the floral print dress, floral print gown is back. I think we're seeing it less in terms of the more traditional silhouette. And it's just about having either, like, an asymmetrical neckline, like we saw at Victoria Beckham that almost looks sculpted in a way. Or at Loewe, there were, like, these hoop skirt versions, which I'm not sure if those are wearable for every day, but I think just speaks to the kind of new silhouettes. And then at Chloe, at the Spring, Summer 2025 show. The collection ended with just these very voluminous, flowy, beautiful dresses that almost had like a shorter hemline in the front than in the back and billowing sleeves. And it just felt very romantic and ethereal. So I think we'll see more interesting silhouettes and a lot of flowy fabrics. I think there'll be like a lot of chiffon organza fabrics that feel really light and maybe a little sheer, but not necessarily revealing. Just have that element of lightness which I think feels really fresh. And then I think another piece that's interesting is the return of the slip skirt and the slip dress and these really beautiful lace trimmed pieces. And one of the most interesting places I noticed this is in one of the recent collections by the Row, who I feel like is known for its minimalism and often very neutral colors. And so I think to see both a lot of slip skirts in their collections and these pastel shades, I think just speaks to how even like minimal dressers are feeling the pull of this more soft, romantic way of dressing.
Bobby Schessler
Totally. I like a slip skirt also because I feel like if you're not 100% wanting to wear like a super flowy blouse or a dress, like, that's a great way to hit on the trend feel of the moment. But style it with maybe, you know, like a blazer, a button up shirt, or a T shirt, whatever it is. And there's so many great, affordable options. You know, when you think like, J. Crew has amazing slip skirts, Nordstrom, their open edit line, has amazing ones. So it's a great way to find and hit on that trend at an affordable price point as well.
Kristen Nichols
So speaking of the J. Crew skirt that you mentioned, I actually ordered one from them last September, which they still have in stock, and I believe it's on sale. And this is one of those pieces that I truly just don't remember what I wore before I owned it because it's so good. I have one in white, I have one in this really pretty charcoal gray, and then I also have it in navy, and I think it just really fits into this trend. It's a great piece at a great price point. Multiple color options. Highly recommend.
Bobby Schessler
Love it.
Kristen Nichols
I packed it for my recent trip to London Fashion Week and wore it with like a leather jacket and heels. So I feel like you can really incorporate it with a lot of pieces that you already have in your wardrobe.
Bobby Schessler
I love any piece that you can, like, dress up, dress down. I mean, that's just music to my ears. Of course. Yes, I love it. Okay, so we've been talking a lot about this merge with sports and fashion and we've seen, you know, Olympic partnerships and we're loving the WNBA tunnel walk outfits and of course the popularity of the challengers film last year and so on. So what does the current iteration of sporty style look like? Cause I feel like a few years ago athleisure was the vibe, but what is the 2020 sporty style we did.
Kristen Nichols
See a few years ago? Brands like sporty and Rich that really had designed this aspirational lifestyle around sporty looks that were more gym forward, whether it was something you'd wear on the tennis court or on a run or to the gym. And it was more of like an actual like athleisure look, but perhaps mixed with a Cartier bracelet or a cool bag. But now we're seeing sporty pieces that are integrated into non workout looks, which I think is really fun and interesting. New way to wear sporty pieces. This is something that was on the row a few seasons ago and I think has evolved from there where we saw this like windbreaker with a trouser with a flat and it felt very elevated and something you definitely wouldn't wear to the gym, but maybe you would wear on the weekend. And it felt very chic. So I think that this has continued as we're seeing pieces like a nylon windbreaker with a funnel neck silhouette that's styled with a mini skirt and heels. And it's really mixing these very sporty pieces into looks that are definitely not taking you to the gym.
Bobby Schessler
No, no funnel neck windbreaker at the gym for me. Although that is like one of my favorite types of pieces for the season. I think it's cool and Chicago.
Kristen Nichols
Yeah. And it's practical. It's that mix of like casual and dressy and pieces that play off each other in this kind of unexpected way that I think is really fun. And then I think we're also just seeing like, sneakers are bigger than ever. Of course they're like comfortable. And I love wearing sneakers whenever I can. Obviously, like the Adidas Sambas were big for so many years, which I still love and wear, but I think a lot of people are looking for like that next sneaker. So I think right now we're a especially seeing retro 70s track and field running sneakers take off. I always love Adidas sneakers and they have One called the SL72 that's really fun. There's a ton of colors and then kind of in the designer space, Drews Van Noten has their really Popular sneakers, either, like, all leather versions or suede versions. And they have those markings on the side that feel very 70s. But that's a sneaker I would love to add to my closet at some point.
Bobby Schessler
I love that one.
Kristen Nichols
They're so good.
Bobby Schessler
I also love the Adidas SL72, and that's, like, a top seller right now on who at wear as well. We all just absolutely love it.
Kristen Nichols
Yeah, there's, like, a really nice red pair. There's this really beautiful forest green. There's just so many colors, and they feel classic and cool and will always be classic and cool. And then kind of a more like actual workout shoe are like, these technical running sneakers that people are wearing a lot. Those are ones you could wear to the gym or not. Not. I actually just ordered the ASICS Gel 1130 sneakers and was on a wait list for three months to get them. But I think they're finally back in stock now. If you want to add them to your cart. They're actually maybe the most comfortable sneakers I've ever owned. Ooh.
Bobby Schessler
Most comfortable.
Kristen Nichols
I know. I really like them. I have them in the Canyon Colorway, which is cream with, like, a silver, and they're my favorite for the gym. I've also had the new balance 530s in the past, which fit into this as well. And I think those come in a lot of fun colors, so I always recommend those ones too.
Bobby Schessler
Let's talk a little bit about workwear style. So we talk about suiting a lot. You know, relaxed silhouettes. Certainly having a moment. I know you're going to talk about Saint Laurent when I just said that, which is my favorite collection. We've already talked about this. Tell me about this shift, and where should we shop for this new workwear style? Relaxed suiting vibe.
Kristen Nichols
I really, truly do credit Saint Laurent with kind of leading this trend, or maybe not leading it, since it was at the, like, end of Fashion week last season in Paris. But I think they really cemented it. And it was also on the runways at Bottega and Stella McCartney, and a lot of different designers had this new take on C suite attire or corporate wear that did feel more upsized. Maybe, like, the shoulders were a little bit bigger, the fits were a little bit looser, but still very tailored. And I think one of the most interesting things is also, like, how these pieces were styled, because I think in many ways, we've seen upsized suiting in the past, but people kind of maybe wore it pretty plainly and just wore the pantsuit with a shoe. But this Time around, it's all about how it's accessorized. And at St. Laurent specifically, there were, like, those amazing thick, trimmed glasses, a tie, a work bag, a sleek pump, a leather jacket styled on top. So it's all these layers, and it almost creates this character. And you're like, where do they work? Like, what's in their bag?
Bobby Schessler
I know. I also like the tie that's tucked into the trousers. That's just, like, so cool.
Kristen Nichols
I know. I saw Elsa Hosk wore, like, a tie tucked into her trousers when she attended the St. Laurent show, and I feel like she just, like, did it in such a cool way. It also felt like maybe a little bit more subversive and a little more feminine in a way. Like, there were a lot more skirts styled with suiting work bags. Like at Bottega, the auntiamo was on the Runway in this embossed version that felt a little bit more elegant. Yet still the way it was styled in the show, it felt like she was going to the office. So there were perhaps, like, more feminine takes on it, since it is such a masculine trend in a way. So it was interesting to see how designers played around with it. And we also saw that a lot in Paris for fall. Like Stella McCartney, there were so many different ways where designers are continuing to reimagine suiting and workwear. So I think this is something that has long legs and will continue into fall.
Bobby Schessler
Totally. If you're not buying a designer suit, where is a great place to shop for more affordable but very on trend suiting?
Kristen Nichols
I think specifically for the oversized look. Frankie Shop always does this so well. And I actually have their gelso suit that I bought years ago, and they designed it so well that they continue to bring it into their collection season after season in new colorways. And it really does tap into that oversized look in a way that you don't feel like you're being swallowed up.
Bobby Schessler
Totally. I have a Frankie Shop suit also.
Kristen Nichols
I love it, and it's a good price point.
Bobby Schessler
Totally. You know, Zara H and M, so many spots have great, affordable suiting options. I actually just got a pair which I posted about today that I'm obsessed with Vince. I feel like always, always has great tailoring separates, and they're men's, but it's this perfect fitting trouser, and it just pulls so perfectly at the bottom that I just literally never want to take them off.
Kristen Nichols
Yeah. Theory as well is a brand I always think of for suiting. I actually got some trousers from them, and they did in store tailoring, so the fit was already good, but then it's like, perfect. So that's another brand that I think just does specifically pants very well.
Bobby Schessler
Amazing. What are your tips for styling and buying these oversized pieces? Should we buy them intentionally oversized? Sometimes I do buy something just in a larger size and maybe get it tailored. What are your thoughts?
Kristen Nichols
I would recommend buying something that's intentionally oversized, especially in, like, women's. And I think you can definitely buy something vintage and something that is oversized. You just want to make sure that the jacket specifically fits in the shoulders, because that's one thing that is very difficult, if not impossible, to tailor. So I think if you are going that route, you just want to make sure that the jacket is fitting you in the shoulders before committing.
Bobby Schessler
That makes sense for any men listening to this. I find a lot of success wearing women's jackets, in particular in larger cuts. Because if I do that in a men's jacket, it's just so big. But if I get an XXL or an xl, it's like the perfect shoulder. The sleeves aren't too long, but it's still like that oversized cut, which I love. Yeah. I'm actually wearing a women's sweater right now, which is Vince, and it's very oversized, and I like the color and this double sleeve situation. Anyway, enough about me. Let's talk about color trends. You spoke about a few of them and some of my favorites in the beginning. Let's just revisit it. What are spring 2025 power colors?
Kristen Nichols
Yeah, so I think it's really going to be the season of past pastel. Even looking ahead to the fall runways, we saw so much pastel, so powder pink is the shade that's especially dominant. We saw this on the Runway at Miu Miu, at Alaia, and interestingly at Kait, which is a brand that doesn't really do a ton of soft colors. So I think that felt really interesting. We're seeing a lot in the icy blue space. I think it was in Milan trend report. That was one of the big colors from there, and I think that's always beautiful. And then in the spring 2025 collection at Chanel, it was a sea of pastel. It was tangerine and soft yellow and the powder pink, and it was just in, like, the most beautiful shade. So I loved seeing all of that.
Bobby Schessler
Yeah, I love that soft yellow, butter yellow color. It's just so pretty and feels fresh, for sure. In terms of tips for wearing some of these popular colors, and I'm one too, like Sometimes you get, like, a little scared about wearing col. Some just feel difficult to style. So are there any color combinations that you think work especially well together?
Kristen Nichols
So I feel like I used to wear a lot of color, and then I've swung in the total opposite direction to neutrals. And so now I am a little scared when I try to wear colors. So I have some references in mind when I try to, like, integrate it into my own wardrobe. And an outfit that I keep returning to is this Zoe Kravitz outfit that she wore. I think it was the end of last year where she was wearing this pastel pink slip skirt from Saint Laurent, and she styled it with a black coat, these sheer black tights, and slingback heels. There was just a small touch of the skirt peeking out from underneath, but I think it demonstrates a really easy way to integrate color into your look if you're someone that, like, myself, doesn't wear it that much. So I think that's, like, the starter outfit to get it back into your wardrobe again. Yeah.
Bobby Schessler
Sometimes what I do is I, like, tried wearing red. It was so popular a few seasons ago, and, you know, wearing my normal neutral outfit, but doing, like, a red sweater around the shoulders or that sort of thing, but just, like, dipping your toe into a color.
Kristen Nichols
Yeah, for sure. And I think I've also seen this a lot where someone will wear two T shirts layered, and, like, the T shirt that's underneath or the sweater that's underneath is a really bright color, and then the one on top is the more neutral, so you just have that little, like, glimpse of the color at the top, and it adds it in a small way.
Bobby Schessler
I love that.
Kristen Nichols
But it still makes a big impact. So I think that's a really fun way to dip your toe into. Wearing bolder colors totally.
Bobby Schessler
In terms of go to outfit formulas for spring or interesting accessories. Do you have an outfit idea in mind or accessories that you're really going to lean into the most this season?
Kristen Nichols
I tend to kind of wear a lot of understated pieces in general, whether it's just jeans and a T shirt or something like that. So I feel like I really rely on accessories to finish my looks. I got a few pairs of Manolo Classic slingbacks, and I feel like those are just such a great piece to really, like, elevate a look. I'm also very into silk scarves right now, and I've been tying them around the handle of my bag, and I'd like to experiment with, like, tying them around my neck to just add a Little touch of print in a small and subtle yet impactful way. And then I also love sunglasses. You know, whether you're wearing the Celine Triumph glasses and they're very polished and elegant looking, versus I have, like, a pair of almost, like, shield goggle glasses, and they feel a little funkier, a little more 70s. And I feel like just that one item can really take your look into a totally different space.
Bobby Schessler
I'm so into sunglasses. Very into the shield sunglasses right now. One other outfit formula that I mentioned is I always love styling pieces in different ways, like draping the sweater around the shoulders. I think we both like this look. Also a few influencers. And on the Runway, I've seen trench coats with a knit tied around the waist, which feels different and cool. I'm really into that. And you can get so many trench coats at any price point, honestly, whether you're going to Mango or Nordstrom or Zara again, wherever. There's so many fantastic options. And obviously, sweaters. Your favorite sweater, just tied it around your waist. Just a very cool look.
Kristen Nichols
Yeah, I think that's like, another fun way to add color to a look. As you mentioned, I saw someone wear recently, like, a white T shirt and white skirt with a pastel yellow sweater tied around the waist. And I think that that's so fun, so pretty. And then also on the Hermes Runway for fall, they had some really interesting styling where they had sweaters tied at the waist but somehow hooked in a belt too. And it just felt like a fun. Yet another way to wear your sweater.
Bobby Schessler
I love it. I know. Not just asses. We need to find another way, which we love. Okay, so to wrap up, for listeners who love fashion but don't necessarily lean into the trends, are there any brands that have released really solid spring collections that they should check out?
Kristen Nichols
One brand I love that's gaining a lot of buzz in New York is Kalmier. And they've always done such beautiful pieces that are just kind of like everyday pieces, but elevated and very cool. A lot of suiting. Another personal favorite is Polo Ralph Lauren, and the styling is so on point. They have really classic pieces, but it's having a renaissance right now, where I feel like people are rediscovering it in a new way. We've already discussed J. Crew, but J. Crew always has really nice pieces, great price points. And then brands like Toteme and Kate always just have really beautiful pieces. Kate's jeans specifically, I personally love. And then Tory Burch. I think we've been discussing this for a couple years. But the torissance if you will. She just has such beautiful takes on classic American sportswear and really fun accessories and shoes. Yeah, I could keep going.
Bobby Schessler
I know I could list like 45 brands, but I'm also wearing a lot of these brands that are having this kind of resurgence. And labels like Banana Republic I feel like is so strong right now. And you know you can find trendier items but definitely those more classic modern pieces as well. So that's definitely a top one for me. And we've discussed madewell Vince. Those are other staples for me too, but we could go on and on.
Anna
About brands for sure.
Bobby Schessler
Well, thank you so much Kristen. It's always a pleasure. I will talk about fashion and shopping and trends with you any day.
Kristen Nichols
Same. Thank you so much Bobby.

This episode was brought to you by Ebay. Hi everyone, Anna here who what Wears Associate Features Editor we're finally on the heels of great weather here in New York City. So honestly, the only thing I've been thinking about these days is spring trends. Naturally, we spend hours each day shopping, read, researching the latest Runway and and street style trends. All in an effort to empower you to make purchasing decisions with your hard earned money in the name of spring cleaning, I've already made a bulleted list of all of the chicest trends I want to take a stab at this season after I've cleared out my closet. Make sure to click the link in the episode description to shop my latest finds. Of course, it's not always feasible to spend hundreds of dollars on a new wardrobe every couple of months. That's why I usually turn to the pre loved market and ebay is always my first stop when it comes to adding something new to my closet. Ebay is filled with thousands of pre loved and vintage treasures, from rare designer bags to it watches each with their own story. I'm obsessed with combing through all of the listings in my search to find a grill of an item, especially when I score them below retail value. There's already a couple of spring styles that are catching my fancy lucky. Luckily for you, I've been able to find them all on ebay. Whether you're looking for a timeless piece to add to your wardrobe or something a bit more trendy, ebay is where you'll find it all. One of the biggest trends I'm loving this season is delicate pastel hues. Think cozy sweaters and cardigans in shades like powder pink, butter yellow and baby blue. The soft, sweet shades we're seeing on the runways are perfect for adding a pop of color to any outfit it and with eBay's curated selection, you can score these pieces from past seasons that have a vintage twist. Plus, the quality is often just as good, if not better, than what's available in stores right now, and you'll be supporting a more sustainable approach to fashion. I found this stunning pink Gucci wool coat that's perfect for the occasion. Not feeling pink this gorgeous butter yellow archival Givenchy jacket straight from the Runway might just be the one for you. Need more convincing? With ebay authenticity guarantee, you'll know that the pieces you're buying are real. Embedded by luxury experts Another trend I'm seeing a lot of this spring is relaxed tailoring. Goodbye stiff boxy suits. Hello fluid and comfortable silhouettes. I'm really into the idea of a wide leg pant paired with a slouchy blazer. An ebay selection of pre loved designer pieces has plenty of options that'll give off that effortlessly chic vibe without breaking the bank. Take for example, the perfectly oversized Comme des Garcons blazer I found while scrolling on ebay. It's the perfect balance of classic and modern, and I love how versatile slouchy suiting is. You can mix and match them with anything from graphic tees to satin blouses, and they'll still feel fresh. Whether you're looking to invest in a statement item or just want to refresh your wardrobe for spring, ebay makes it easy to find exactly what you're after, making both your wallet and the planet feel happy. You can shop smart, save money, and still wear the pieces you're obsessed with. You can find all of my favorites right now by going to the link in today's episode description or by going to ebay.com whootwear.

Kristen Nichols highlights a significant resurgence of 1960s-inspired fashion. She notes, “The New York downtown set is dressing kind of like Audrey Hepburn, with pillbox hats and gloves” ([03:39]). This nostalgia is evident across major brands such as Michael Kors, Valentino, and Celine, and is embraced by celebrities like Kendall Jenner, who donned an elegant gray skirt suit at Couture Fashion Week in Paris.
Romantic Revival
The podcast emphasizes the return of romantic styles characterized by pastels and floral prints. Kristen observes, “Pastels in general are returning in a big way, which is really fresh and fun” ([03:46]). Brands like Loewe and Victoria Beckham are presenting avant-garde floral designs, while streams like personal style and individuality take center stage with elements like bag charms and sculptural belts enhancing simple outfits.
1960s Nostalgia
Pillbox Hats
Kristen suggests hunting vintage pillbox hats on eBay or exploring brands like Gigi Burris and Totem for modern takes ([08:25]). These hats add a chic, vintage flair without overpowering contemporary outfits.
Rather than adopting a full retro look, Kristen advocates for integrating standalone 60s elements into modern ensembles. For example:
Kristen emphasizes, “You don’t want to look like you’re wearing a costume” ([08:37]), encouraging listeners to blend retro pieces seamlessly with everyday attire.
Floral and Flowing Silhouettes
The return of romantic and bohemian styles is marked by floral dresses with modern twists. Kristen points out, “We’re seeing a lot of flowy fabrics like chiffon and organza that feel light and fresh” ([09:57]). Designers like Victoria Beckham and Chloe are introducing asymmetrical necklines and voluminous silhouettes that add an ethereal touch to spring fashion.
Slip Skirts and Dresses
Slip skirts and dresses, especially those with lace trims, are gaining popularity. Kristen shares her personal favorite from J. Crew, praising its versatility and affordability: “It just really fits into this trend” ([12:09]). These pieces can be dressed up with blazers or dressed down with casual tops, making them essential for any wardrobe.
From Athleisure to Elevated Sporty Pieces
The podcast explores the shift from traditional athleisure to integrating sporty elements into non-workout outfits. Kristen describes, “Sporty pieces are now being styled in ways that are not gym-appropriate but rather chic for weekend wear” ([13:26]). Examples include nylon windbreakers paired with mini skirts and heels, creating a balanced look that merges casual and dressy elements.
Sneakers Take Center Stage
Sneakers remain a key accessory, with retro 70s track and field styles making a comeback. Popular choices include Adidas SL72 and Drews Van Noten’s all-leather designs. Kristen also recommends technical running sneakers like ASICS Gel 1130 and New Balance 530 for their comfort and style versatility ([15:47]).
Leading the Trend
Saint Laurent is credited with popularizing relaxed suiting, featuring oversized blazers with broader shoulders and looser fits ([17:09]). Other designers like Bottega and Stella McCartney are also contributing to this trend by reimagining traditional workwear with a feminine twist and creative accessorizing.
Affordable Options
For those seeking budget-friendly suiting, Kristen recommends brands like Frankie Shop, Zara, H&M, Vince, and Theory. Bobby adds, “Vince has perfect-fitting trousers that pull beautifully at the bottom” ([19:50]), highlighting the availability of stylish, oversized suits without the high price tag.
Styling Tips
Kristen advises purchasing intentionally oversized pieces, especially in women's apparel, ensuring proper fit in the shoulders: “You want to make sure that the jacket is fitting you in the shoulders before committing” ([20:43]). Bobby shares his success with women’s jackets in larger cuts, finding the right balance for an oversized yet tailored look.
Pastel Dominance
Pastels, particularly powder pink, butter yellow, and baby blue, are the season’s power colors. Kristen notes, “In the spring 2025 collection at Chanel, it was a sea of pastel” ([21:44]). These soft hues offer a fresh alternative to the long-standing minimalistic neutral palette.
