Podcast Host (Intro/Outro)
Hey, who what wear listeners. I feel like people have been talking about selling on ebay a lot lately, and the more I hear about it, the more it makes sense because we all have those things. The jacket from a very specific phase, the lamp that only worked in your last apartment, the pan you bought for the version of you that was definitely going to cook more. And from what I hear, selling on ebay is actually really simple. It's basically just a few photos, and suddenly the stuff that's just been sitting there has a chance to millions of buyers who are genuinely excited to have it. That's what I like about it. On ebay, the things that no longer fit your life can still be exactly right for someone else. And you get a little more space, a little extra money, and maybe a better sense of what fits your life now. Find what you love, sell what you don't on ebay. The place for things people love.
Kat Collings
Welcome to the who, what, where? Podcast. I'm editor in chief Kat Collings, and today on the podcast, I'm sitting down in studio with executive editorial and style director Lauren Egertson and shopping editor Chichi04 to give you a summer shopping and style guide. We've been closely tracking the trend shifts from last summer, and we're here to share all of our recommendations on how to update your wardrobe for the season ahead. It's all coming up on who, what, where. Hi, Lauren and Chichi.
Chichi04
Welcome to the pod.
Lauren Egertson
Hi, Kat. Thanks for having us.
Kat Collings
Okay, so today we're talking everything summer style. To me, this is who. What wears secret sauce is what's sort of coming up on the trend forecast. What's maybe falling off. And I'm excited to hear all of your summer insights. But first, let's start with the go tos that you return to every summer.
Chichi04
Right now, I've been actually for a while, I've been into jorts, long shorts in general. So if it's like jorts or like a long line, like almost Bermuda, but like loose, not tight.
Kat Collings
Like a tight jord is sort of like.
Chichi04
It's like weird.
Kat Collings
No, that's off.
Chichi04
That's like 2007 in the worst way. Love a skirt. I'm such a skirt girl. Like, I feel like for summer, definitely more like knee length. Or I could have some maxi moments. Flowy pants. Oh, my gosh. Gotta let everything breathe, you know?
Kat Collings
So circulate.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah, yeah, I like that. I agree with all of that. I'm definitely a flowy pant girl. I love like a linen or poplin. Before we Actually started this. I was talking to Kat about how there's this J. Crew pair, the Luna Pant, and they're like flying off the shelves and I cannot get a pair. Like, I've tried to add them to my cart so many times and they keep getting back ordered, but they're so cute. They're just like a really like, like in between, like a straight and a wide leg poplin drawstring. They come in like a really pretty, like, tomato red. And I'm just like, I know when I get those, that's going to be my uniform. Like that and a T shirt and a flip flop. It's just cute. I can wear it to the office with like maybe a little jacket or like a sweater. I don't know why these pants are just consuming me, but I need them a flowy pant and like a good material. Like you're saying you're just like, let it breathe, not stress. I love a flowy skirt. I love a button down. Just like things that I can pair back together to, like all of these items.
Kat Collings
I think like a mix and match situation.
Chichi04
Yes.
Kat Collings
I'm glad you sort of expounded on what a flowy plant means because I don't want anyone listening to be like, okay, flowy. We're going full flow and like palazzo. Because that's not where we're at in the summer of 2026.
Lauren Egertson
No. To me, flowy means like not tight on your leg, but still has, like a shape to it.
Chichi04
Like a soft pant that has a little bit of a relaxed vibe to it, but definitely not palazzo.
Lauren Egertson
No. Yeah.
Chichi04
Okay.
Kat Collings
We're clear and aligned on this period.
Lauren Egertson
I feel like you're cooler than me with, like, knowing what Gen Z loves. Like, we always have this conversation, but I feel like the track short with like, the stripe is really cool for like the younger demographic. Not that if you're older, you can't wear it, but I've just noticed it on some of these, like, cool Gen Z people. Same with like a flowy pant situation. That's more like sport inspired, you know, Like, I think that's kind of fun.
Kat Collings
I think also as a millennial, I'm so glad you're here GQ to help, like, check us, like, with our button downs. Sometimes we get a little office. You know, we used to wear office wear to the club. We're like, we will shove in the office, look wherever if we need to be stopped. So I think that like a sporty or short can really help counteract that. Get nine to five Vibe. Yeah. Yeah. That was a good little overview moment. And now I think we need to go head to toe. We're really getting into it, each category and what's relevant right now to wear. It's like a shower, you know, you have to, like, start at the top and then you rinse down.
Lauren Egertson
Yes, I like that.
Kat Collings
The proper way to do it, if anyone was wondering. Let's start with the headwear. I'm curious, what was popular last summer and how are you seeing it evolve this summer?
Lauren Egertson
Luckily, so much summer, like, headwear is pretty timeless and kind of comes back, like, you know, like, you're never going to look lame if you're wearing a baseball hat or, like a crochet bucket hat or things like that. But I do feel like last summer the polo baseball hats with, like, the logo on it was just kind of everywhere. Like, every single person I knew had one. And they're still cool. Like, if you have, like, I have one, I'll probably still, like, pull it out sometimes. But I think that was still when we were, like, tapering off of quiet luxury a little more. So it was like, that was your personality piece, like the space, this polo baseball hat.
Kat Collings
Right. And like, the fun colors because it kind of comes in a rainbow.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah, exactly. So you could be wearing, like, all white and have a red baseball hat. Again, still cute. You would still look so stylish. But it's like, now this summer, I feel like people are moving out of that and starting to, like, experience and mess with personal style a bit more and get more maximalist. So we're seeing more fun trends kind of evolve.
Chichi04
I feel like, more this year, like, kind of the, like, spin on that a little bit is I feel like I've seen people combine their headscarves with the baseball cap. You know, dress it up a little bit, add a little personality. And so I've seen that in a really cool way. Skull cap or, like, a cloche is really trending right now. I've been seeing a lot of the, like, crocheted versions and some that have, like, cool little, like, shell beads and sequence. And if you want to get crazy. But yeah, I feel like a lot of that's been really cool and some people go the more, like, vintage Y, 1920s route. But yeah, I think that's been like, a cool twist on new iterations of, like, a classic, like, crocheted, like, bucket hat vibe for this year.
Kat Collings
I will say, you know, we had such a strong reaction to palazzo pants. I'm curious in the hat category. Is a fedora ever welcome?
Lauren Egertson
I feel like if, like, Addison Rae wore one. Yeah.
Chichi04
Like somebody's got Charlie XTX or something. Maybe, you know, but you won't see me wearing a fedora.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah.
Kat Collings
To me, also, when something feels so severely uncool, it's like, you know, it's just somebody is gonna bring it back. Who can be that sort of tipping point for a trend?
Lauren Egertson
Yes.
Chichi04
In an ironic way, almost.
Lauren Egertson
Yes, 100%. Okay.
Kat Collings
Hair accessories, These are always a big indicator of what style era we're in. I think oversized scrunchies, claw clips, hairpins, the gamut. Barrettes. What does summer 2026 look like for the hair accessory?
Lauren Egertson
I was excited to talk about French combs because I feel like they're so chic. Hairpins are obviously so chic too. I think, like, the French twist in general is just, like, this evolution, maybe from the claw clip, where the claw clip used to be. That was, like, your accessory, and now it's starting to feel a little bit more utilitarian. Not that they're out. Like, I still wear them all the time. Hair half up with my little. My little claw clips. But for the rose Pre Fall 2026 collection, the hair stylist Guido Palau did, like, this new architectural French twist take with these French combs. And so it was kind of like there was multiple combs in the hair, and that's very editorial, but I think that's how trends kind of start. Right. It's like you see something that's so striking and punches you in the face almost, and then you're like, how can I make this work for me? So I think a French comb is kind of, like, a fun, fun thing to try this summer.
Kat Collings
Plus, it's also, like, I need to watch a YouTube tutorial. Like, there's a little bit of a barrier, like this comb.
Lauren Egertson
It's a hobby now.
Kat Collings
How does it work? I think Jenny Walton is someone who does that at, like, vintage inspired hairstyles a lot that I'm always like, maybe we need to get her on the phone.
Lauren Egertson
We. We do. She knows what she's doing, and she's really good at sourcing vintage hair pins.
Kat Collings
Yeah.
Lauren Egertson
And she's, like, so easy. Like, she makes it look so effortless, but it definitely takes the technique for sure.
Chichi04
I've been seeing some cool hairpins that have, like, beading or, like, just, like, cute little adornments, and I feel like that's, like, kind of the maybe 2026 version of it all.
Kat Collings
I saw one with a well we'll put the brand maybe in the comments, but a seashell kind of on top. And then it had some, like, pearl dangles hanging down. So what about sunglasses? I know where we're at here, and I think we're all going to say the same thing. After an era of tiny frames, I think we are ready for something new. We overdid it a little bit.
Chichi04
So what's in?
Kat Collings
What has replaced the tiny frame?
Chichi04
Big sunglasses. The bug eye trend is huge. I know we all feel it. I know we all see it. It's what's going on, period.
Lauren Egertson
I can't say it. I can't say it.
Kat Collings
We're just like.
Chichi04
We're gonna roll that back and just edit over that.
Kat Collings
There's a specific pair of sunglasses which teach you. Maybe we'll have you try them on later and see if they're, like, a universal fit that Lauren and I have been loving and both purchased that they are the Oliver People's Kate collab. What style is it?
Lauren Egertson
They are very important.
Kat Collings
Cause they're all different numbers. There's a lot of good ones. Like, Anne Hathaway's been wearing a pair that's really cool from this collab, but
Lauren Egertson
ours is the 1967 C. That's what they're called.
Chichi04
Okay. Write it down.
Kat Collings
And they're for a smaller face. They really wrap around and don't overwhelm, which I think I have a hard time finding. Big sunglasses that don't feel too big. They go with everything. And I feel totally complete after buying these in my sunglasses category.
Lauren Egertson
Yes. I've, like, never felt this passionate about eyewear before. Like, every single thing that I put on, like, I think about the sun. I'm like, this outfit is lame without my sunglasses.
Kat Collings
Yeah.
Lauren Egertson
Like, they've elevated my personal style just by this pair. But you're right, they are, like, I think big sunglasses. Even if they don't flatter your face, it's kind of like this moment, right? They're just like, bug eye. It's like, it's cool. You really?
Kat Collings
Yes, I. I go back and forth. I'm like, can I pull it off? Like, does it feel almost costumey? You know the ones I'm talking about?
Lauren Egertson
Yes, it does look costumey, but if you own it, it's like, fun. There's definitely, like, an in between too. I think, like, you can either really lean in and do the, like, Celine huge ones, or you can do something like the ones we bought, those K Oliver peoples, where it's like, still feels every day, but it's like cool and feels different than like a refresh from
Chichi04
the micro teeny as like a big faced girl. A big face is crazy wider face or whatever. Honestly, finding like micro sunglasses was tough. That like felt like they like balanced well. So I mean wide faced girlies, it's our time to shine jewelry.
Kat Collings
Okay. Last year we saw the corded pendant necklaces take over. This was honestly a trend that like I was like we're all doing the same thing a little too much here. Like it was just so powerful, so potent that I'm curious where we're moving.
Chichi04
I do think the corded necklaces of it all will still kind of be here. But I like, I like the versions that have maybe like a tassel I think is still cute to do and sometimes I see them with a tassel and like a little shell. Personally for me I'm really excited about like beaded kind of like necklaces made of like semi precious stones. I just feel like there's a lot of really cool styles coming out and like honestly various price ranges. Like I have a madewell beaded necklace that is so cute and they honestly have a lot of really cool options.
Kat Collings
This all tracks. I saw a 2026 Pinterest report come out that saying maximalist accessories interest is up over a hundred percent compared to last year. So I think that's. People are like wanting a little texture and personality and color with their accessory choices. One, I'm really into that. I've been like, sometimes I feel like I have this thought in my head and it's like marinating and marinating and then I should say it right when I'm thinking of it because then I could be ahead of the curve. Arm bangles, guys, they are coming.
Lauren Egertson
They're cute.
Kat Collings
Have you seen it?
Lauren Egertson
They're cute. Yeah. Do you have one?
Kat Collings
No. I've only done a couple cursory searches on Etsy and I haven't gotten so far, which is to my own, my own fault.
Chichi04
Okay, what kind of arm bangle? Like what's the vibe? Is it like metallic?
Kat Collings
It's like metal. It's a metal and it's like, you
Chichi04
know, it doesn't move. Like it's sort of like Cleopatra.
Kat Collings
Cleopatra, yes.
Chichi04
Okay, yes, I know what you mean.
Kat Collings
I saw one recently, it was like a fine one that then like had this. I'm sure it was a lab made diamond like pear shape dripping down off of it and I was like, wow, I'm not gonna like purchasing a fine arm bangle. Same way. I didn't do like a fine toe ring per se. But wow. It looked good.
Chichi04
You're like.
Kat Collings
It looked maybe I'm wacinate, like, give me that one.
Lauren Egertson
I was gonna say too for the cord necklace epidemic, like maybe a way to still make use of them is to kind of like layer them more and add your personality like on top of it. I feel like I've been seeing a lot of more like, like the cord necklace moment was so like white tea cord necklace, you know, like it was like your one thing. So I think now it's like you can still wear them, they're still cool and like they. You bought one that you love, so that's great. But like layer on like a longer beaded one with your like smaller one, you know, like. Yeah, make it more fun and add some personality and like give it new life as always.
Kat Collings
I think with long necklace trends, you can have an open back moment and flip it around, you know, have someone take that shot from the back. It's. Oh, it's just an idea.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah.
Chichi04
I kind of love a funky accessory and so I feel like I loved when like brooches came back like last year, honestly the last couple years. But like I feel like the 2026 version of kind of like a fun, funky prize ribbon type of things. I've seen like Claro wear one to open her tour last year. I think hers was Sandy Liang. And then also just like rosette ribbony kind of vibes like that. You can just pin it on a like cute little tee, you know, put them on your shorts. Honestly, you can attach em to your purses. I've seen some fun like feathered brooches, cute like popping up a little bit and they're like definitely more maximalist. If you like are more minimalistic and you just want like a little pop of something, it's nice to do that too.
Kat Collings
That's the trend, I think, for like somebody who's, who's very stylish.
Chichi04
Yeah, I feel that's more like.
Kat Collings
That's like advanced level.
Chichi04
Yeah, that's.
Kat Collings
That's what you're doing. Yeah.
Chichi04
If you're, if you're, if you're trying to, you know, tap into more advanced stuff, like niche fashion, girly stuff, you know, that's the tip.
Lauren Egertson
I love it.
Kat Collings
Also kind of Sex and the City Carrie.
Chichi04
Yeah. Yes. I think she probably had. Yes, totally.
Kat Collings
Moments. Okay. What's going on in the tops world? Tops are hard.
Lauren Egertson
I literally don't know what a cute top is.
Chichi04
We don't know.
Lauren Egertson
Like, I never know.
Kat Collings
You don't know. Nobody knows.
Lauren Egertson
It is so difficult. But what I will say, actually, it's funny you bring up brooches because what you're saying is the evolution. But I feel maybe, maybe this is too niche and also advanced level. But last summer when Tory Burch came out with that tank top with, like, the flower brooch, it was so cool. People were paying 300, whatever, hundreds of dollars for this, like, white tank. I almost fell victim to it. It's so cute. There's nothing. It's like, literally so cute. But I feel like everyone had it and instead of, like, taking inspiration from it, people were just like, buying the tank top with that same flat. You know what I mean? Like, it was like, that was it. There's still, like, Tori's still selling it. It's still really cute. But if anything, like I was going to say, it's challenged me now this summer to be like, I think I just saw it so much on my algorithm, like, what is a new way that I can update my, like, white tank or my white tee? And you answered my question.
Chichi04
Yeah. I feel like, honestly, as far as summer tops go, I feel like sticking with the simple, classic staples is like, you can't really go wrong. There's always a way to, like, shake things up and maybe get an oversized version. But I do think, like, adorning, like, all your favorite basics and staples with a cool, I don't know, feathered brooch could be the way to step it up.
Kat Collings
I also have a question. We mentioned button downs. Like, are we not tucking in these button downs? Are we just supposed to, like, let them loose? Because I think that's the way. But it feels wrong to somebody who was raised on, like a half tuck, a French tuck, an all the way tuck.
Chichi04
You know, I don't want to, like, yuck anyone's yum. So tuck if you must. I don't really tuck. You know, I kind of lean away from doing that. I don't know. Makes everything feel so, like, formal.
Lauren Egertson
There's three options. There's like, you're untucking.
Chichi04
Yeah.
Lauren Egertson
And you're owning. Right. Totally loose. Even if it's, like layered over a T. Right. You're just, like, open and loose. Then you can take, like, a safety pin on the inside and you can, like, scrunch it so that it's like, if you want it to be untucked, but you want more shape. Right. You, like, pin it in the side
Kat Collings
or in the back. Okay.
Lauren Egertson
But then I've been trying to, like, if I do Want to tuck it. I, like, wear a T shirt under or a tank top and then I leave it open, but I tuck it. So it's like you're. Do you know what I'm saying?
Kat Collings
It's like we do.
Lauren Egertson
It's like when I try to be that girl who just like has this untucked shirt and I have like a loose jean on, it's like I'll literally like, recreate an outfit that I see and then I look in the mirror and I'm like, this is wrong. Like, it's hard. But every shirt's different. I think that's the other thing. Like, you know, different lengths and like, if it does come in a little, I don't know, it's like all. It's all complicated.
Chichi04
Berries shout out to Barry's. They are this really cool, primarily vintage, but also like a lot of cool third party independent brands out of NYC and like, very much tailors to like curves and mid and plus size people. And Emma Zach, through Berries does a really great job of sourcing, honestly, some of the coolest button downs. Like, they're like upcycles and like, really unique designs. Some have cool cutouts in some places and like, there's some patchworky things going on. It's just like. So there's definitely, like, fun ways to do the button down.
Lauren Egertson
This one, like, doesn't have to require shopping, which I love is like, I'm loving layering tees of different colors. So like the other day I wore like a red T shirt under my white T shirt, and then I like rolled the sleeve so then the red was coming out.
Chichi04
Wow.
Lauren Egertson
And then the red was under here. And it's like so simple, but it made me feel so cool and like I was wearing a top versus, like my white tee, which I think is my struggle. Like I said with tops and just like, I'm wearing a button down, I'm wearing a white T shirt, and it's hard to feel elevated and cool.
Chichi04
I feel like that's a big one. Honestly, like, I've been seeing. Like, that actually is a really great one. Take note, everybody layering the tops. I feel like that's like a great way to like, mix things up. Layering your tanks. Putting a tank over a tee.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah. And you could get like, fun colors too. Like, you don't have to do white. It's like if you wanted to buy a couple new tees, like get a purple and a red or like a teal and a red, you know, like, do something like that and Mix it up.
Podcast Host (Intro/Outro)
Hey, who what wear listeners? People have been talking about selling on
Lauren Egertson
ebay a lot lately.
Podcast Host (Intro/Outro)
And honestly, I get it because we all have those things. The jacket from a very specific phase, the lamp that only worked in your last apartment, the pant you bought for the version of yourself that was the. Definitely going to cook more. And from what I hear, selling on ebay is actually really simple. It's basically just a few photos and suddenly the stuff that's just been sitting there has a chance to find millions of buyers who are genuinely excited to have it. Find what you love, sell what you don't on ebay.
Kat Collings
Let's move to the category of bottoms, which, apologies, if you're listening to our co founder, Hilary Kerr, she does not care for that word, which I respect, but I kind of want to. You know, we talked a little bit about pants in the beginning. Do we have anything else to add about skirts? Also, the lace skirt was lace trimmed. Skirt was big. And I think we continue to see lace trimmed things in general resonate.
Lauren Egertson
We have to talk about the taffeta pants.
Kat Collings
Sure we do.
Lauren Egertson
They're having a huge moment. Brands that I think our team is really loving. Donny, which you have a pair of cat that you said you love?
Kat Collings
Yes, I will speak to them. I have a chartreuse pair of the taffeta donny pants. And wow, the compliments just rain down on you when you wear those. It's, it's something to behold if you need a little ego boost to get a pair of those. I also think the fabric, while it's, it can be stained easily or sweat in easily. Any taffeta, it actually holds up well to like washes and things. Almost like a little more than like a silk to me. Like, it doesn't get snagged, which I appreciate.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah, they're so cute. Chan Liu has some reformation has come out with some and I think it's just a fun, slightly more elevated but still, still casual take on like the, you know, the flowy or more comfortable like everyday summer pant that we've been talking about. And especially opting for a fun color like chartreuse or red or, you know, something like that I think is an easy way to just elevate like a tank, you know, like throw it on with a flip flop or a little kitten heel. And you still feel very pulled together, but you're comfy, you know, you're comfortable.
Chichi04
I love how they look and I love the sound of them. Taffeta's a little tough for me. But I love looking at it on every video.
Lauren Egertson
Long shorts too. I feel like when Margot Robbie wore her like long, black, silky shorts with her long sleeve black tee and little ballet flats at the airport, it really like changed people's brain chemistry about long shorts. Especially in this shape, this more casual, flowy, silky sort of a silhouette. I feel like before that in my mind like a long short had to be weirdly like a tailored. Not tight, but like a, you know, more tailored trouser. Trouser adjacent, like Bermuda short. And so this I think is really cool and to your point about like the lace slip skirts, like I've seen some brands come out with a lace like trimmed longer short, which is really cool because I know like the short ones were really popular last summer.
Chichi04
I am a long, short gal, so I feel like it's, you know, my time to shine. I definitely am very excited about the long, silky, satiny shorts with the lace trim. I also have been seeing some cool like lineny kind of like long line shorts and I feel like that would be really cool. So I'm really excited about that too.
Kat Collings
I like that a little more niche. But I've also been seeing in terms of the long shorts conversation, the sort of like surf inspired board shorty type thing where maybe it's got the only has like a few details. Like you don't want all of them super literal like blue crush energy. You want, you know, maybe it has the little tie at the waist or it's got those like seams coming down the front that are like in a contrast color.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah.
Chichi04
Yes. I feel like almost like iterations of a track pant. I've seen stuff like that in a, almost in a capri length too. Like a kind of capri, like a slightly not fitted, like some fun takes on athletic wear popping up, which I really like. And so I would say that's in that kind of realm.
Kat Collings
Caprice is interesting because it's one that hit so hard last year and I love it too. So I think it's sometimes a good lesson with these trends. It's like, it may feel like you've seen it a lot, but. And so you kind of want to move on, but you're like, well actually objectively they're great.
Chichi04
Yeah.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah, totally.
Kat Collings
Okay.
Lauren Egertson
Dresses.
Kat Collings
I feel like I'm perpetually looking for a throw on and go dress and I need help. So what is feeling current this summer?
Chichi04
Drop waist was popular last year. I think you'll still see some drop waste options this year. Baby doll dresses are looking really Cute. Really cool.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah.
Kat Collings
I feel like Gen Z is into the babydoll dress trend with like Olivia Rodrigo wearing them a lot lately. Sabrina Carpenter obviously is a fan fan
Chichi04
and Sabrina was wearing that drop waist dress at the. Was it the Dior resort show. And so that's like, that's for 2027, but so I feel like it might still be around. It's different versions. But yeah, I feel like it's also
Kat Collings
a trend that at least for me, I'm like, oh, wow, how do. Is that something that I could put on my body, like drop waist? You know, especially if you grow up with these narratives of like highlight your waist and all these fun, like dated ideas about how to dress a body.
Chichi04
Yeah, I totally think if it's something that you want to try, you should totally always go for it, test it out, experiment. I'm like, not. I don't love a drop waist, personally. On me a ton. I. There's sometimes I feel like a basque waist I like a little bit more for like my own personal silhouette. But I do think dropways can feel tricky for some people. So I totally get where that comes from.
Kat Collings
Look at shoes. Let's start with sneakers. Are we doing sporty low profile? Is there change on the horizon?
Lauren Egertson
I think they're still sporty low profile. I feel like the luxury brands that are kind of leading the charge and then, you know, we see it trickle down into some more approachable brands and price points are really like Celine. Like they have those pairs and a bunch of colors. I love the red and blue pair. I want them so badly, but I don't know if that I can justify the price. But they're so chic. But I have been noticing. I noticed this when I was in a Prada store in the spring. It was basically like a kid.
Chichi04
Yes.
Lauren Egertson
But there are some people trying to
Kat Collings
bring back the kids.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah, it's kind of interesting. So I wanted to see everyone's take on it. It's like you can get an afford. You could literally just get kids.
Kat Collings
Yeah, like $40.
Lauren Egertson
Truly. It reminds me of being a kid. Like, yeah, you know, like my little white sneaker. Like I wasn't wearing like a cool sneaker until I was maybe old. Like, it reminds me of being like in elementary school almost, you know, but they're so cute and I can see like, you know, the sort of like derby Celine lace up style that we've been seeing a lot. Like maybe it's like an evolution of that where it's not like leather, you know, like it's like this canvas, really casual moment, and I think they're chic, but I don't know that I'm ready to, like, get on board. But then it's interesting when you notice these, like, big players coming out with their takes on it, and I'm like, oh, is this something I should be paying attention to? Yeah.
Chichi04
I'm a little hesitant about a Ked and jumping into something that looks like that. If I'm being real. If it looks more like, like you were saying, like a canvasy version of, like, a derby or like an oxford, I'm down with that. We know ballet sneakers exist, but I feel like if you're not like, a hardcore sneaker girly, and you still want something that is in that realm but doesn't feel like, so sneaker, so, like, athletic. I think that is your entry point.
Kat Collings
Yeah. Like this Mary Jane kind of stuff. Yes.
Chichi04
Puma has some that people really like, and so does Adidas has some. The Taekwondo may. I think that's it.
Lauren Egertson
Yeah.
Kat Collings
The Nike Air Rift is obviously popular.
Chichi04
I feel like Nike is. Nike Air Rift is gonna keep on being popular.
Kat Collings
You know who's a fan of Nike Air rifts in the 90s when they originally came out is Chloe Sevignier. You need the cool stamp of approval. There it is.
Lauren Egertson
Yes.
Kat Collings
What about flip flops, guys? It's beach season.
Chichi04
Yeah, they're that girl.
Lauren Egertson
They're still that girl. Been that girl. Thanks to the row.
Kat Collings
Really, it all leads back to the row. The accessory conversation. At least.
Chichi04
I was a little hesitant about flip flops. And honestly, the longer that I see them, the more iterations I see, the more I'm like, okay, okay, I'm on board. Yeah, I'm on board now. I like the, like, leathery versions. Jeff Campbell kind of came out with, like, these almost like, Jeff.
Lauren Egertson
Like, Jeffrey.
Chichi04
Jeffrey Campbell.
Kat Collings
Are you.
Chichi04
Yes, yes.
Kat Collings
BFF Mr. Jeff.
Chichi04
I am not best friends with Jeff, but, you know, I could be. And I feel like those just, like, a fun version of, like, those, like, almost split toe y tabby vibes, but they're like flip flops, so I think they're, like, really cool.
Kat Collings
Interesting. I feel like I need a visual.
Lauren Egertson
I know. I know.
Kat Collings
Lorna and I are stunned.
Chichi04
I do think in the sandal conversation, I'm like, can I go here? Freaky shoe girls. Like freaky toe girls. Freaky toe girl Sounds crazy. All the freaky shoe lovers. There's this really cool brand curtsy that does these sandals that. It kind of looks a little scary, but fun and Your toes are accentuated in a funny way, and they have this wedge version and this flat version. And I feel like I'm just seeing a lot of, like, toe shoes. Toe y kind of emphasis shoes, even with the sneaker combo, like Vibram, and they're, like, barefoot, like, five finger kind of shoes. I feel like there's, like, a lot of fun toe emphasizing toe forward.
Kat Collings
Another one I think we need to talk about that's still hanging on, even though it's been around for maybe two summer. This might be the third summer is the jelly shoe.
Chichi04
Mm.
Kat Collings
Again, started with the row. Yeah. Reintroducing that. That conversation. I think there's that Chloe heel. Right. That has been part of the conversation around, like, the Polly Pocket style that is. Is a funny trend. The Chloe ones kind of look like a Cinderella Barbie shoe. So I'm curious what you guys think of these. It's kind of. A lot of them are, like, very childlike. And I think jelly's also similar, I guess, to kids. We all just want to be kids again with our shoes.
Lauren Egertson
Yes. I think that people are excited about Jelly shoes because they feel so nostalgic, and it has been interesting to see the staying power. Like you were saying, it's kind of been a few years of, like, you know, the mesh flat, like, the mesh mule. I've seen, like, you know, the Chloe originally, I think they came out with, like, the thong, and now it's that, like, little pocket. Polly pocket shoe. And it's fun. It just. There's, like, different versions, and I feel like if it makes you feel fun and childlike, it's. Why not lean in, you know, have fun when you get dressed.
Chichi04
I feel like that's, like, a big thing. Like, I would say overall, across the board is that I think people are trying to have more fun, I think, embracing their, like, childlike wonder and their whimsy and, like, all of that. So I think the Jelly shoes is a part of it. Maybe the, like, fun, funky accessories, all of that. It's just, like, a part of finding a way to express yourself and, like, maybe speak to your inner child.
Lauren Egertson
Yep.
Kat Collings
Okay. My last. Since we covered the categories, last one is colors. Why I love color trends is because you can pick any type of item and tap into it. So what are real quick, the hot color trends of summer 2026.
Lauren Egertson
I feel like I've been hearing a lot of discourse about purple and red as, like, a combo, like, trend together. Dua Lipa just wore a really pretty purple dress and red shoe combination. And Can. I've seen just, like, funny, cute influencers on my TikTok. I feel like, pop up talking about, like, it's a purple summer and, you know, like, just ways to, like, lean into that color trend. And then teal has also been something I've been kind of keeping my eye on. I just saw Dua Lipa's sister, Rena Lipa. I'm obsessed with her for some reason. I mean, she's, like, gorgeous and so cool, but she just wore, like, a silky button down and she kind of, like, tied it up, and it was this bright, fun teal color with a capri and a flip flop. And I was just like, yeah, that's nice.
Kat Collings
I feel like those are advanced colors.
Lauren Egertson
They are.
Kat Collings
I will add that I was checking out one of my. My favorite accounts on Instagram, which I plugged recently to on the pod was data but make it fashion. Who is the woman behind that? Is one of our editors in residence. And she was talking about butter yellow.
Chichi04
Yes.
Kat Collings
Which, like, we've heard about butter yellow for. I actually clocked it. Harling Ross Anton, who was used to be at Man Repeller. I think during that era, she coined this term of but stick, a butter dressing. That was in 2018. So we're talking eight years ago. Believe it or not, it is still widely searched that term butter yellow and is up 73% year over year. So it's not going anywhere. And I feel like you still see it and it's approachable, which is why it does so well.
Lauren Egertson
It's kind of become like a new neutral to me.
Chichi04
I agree. I feel like it definitely has staying power. I'm still wearing buttered yellow. I feel like yellow pops really well with my skin tone. So y' all will be seeing me wearing that. I've seen seen, like, a really fun color combo with, like, purple and, like, almost chartreuse. And so I feel like we might see that. If you're trying to be a little fun and experimental, that could be a cool way to, like, you know, spice up this, like, purple trend we're seeing. But, yeah, I feel like that's, like, a fun one I've been seeing.
Kat Collings
Let's end with some rapid fire. So quick, Lauren, what's a dated summer fashion item you still secretly love?
Lauren Egertson
Okay. Our Birkenstocks dated because I like, love my.
Chichi04
I think they're, like, a staple in, like, the summer comfy sandal world block heel or, like, chunky heels are dated, but I don't know, I'm still going to wear them. They're comfy. I'm a little clumsy, so there's a stability aspect to it all too. But I still like them. So.
Kat Collings
Biggest summer fashion faux pas that's easy to avoid.
Chichi04
Summer dressing. Um, sometimes we might avoid showing our arms and our legs, but that is the biggest faux pas to me. I think everybody should be showing their arms, their legs, wearing whatever they want. Um, yeah, it's summer.
Lauren Egertson
Okay. Mine was more utility focused, which is I feel like we've all fallen victim to like wanting to wear this cute thing that we have in our closet to somewhere. And then you just are at the event and you feel so uncomfortable and anxious the whole time because you're like fidgeting or whatever. And so specifically for summer, I would say, like, if you're going somewhere really hot, just like be aware of the material you're wearing so that you don't have to be stressed about sweating or like sweat stains or feeling like you're just like trapped in your own heat and then you're. That's all you're thinking about and you're not present. Like, I think summer is about being present and being with your friends and your family and just like enjoying your time and relaxing a little. And if your clothes should not be like constricting you or taking away from
Kat Collings
that last question, what's one if you know, you know summer brand that you want to get keep but you'll kindly share with the audience listening.
Chichi04
I'm not really a gatekeeper, so I'm going to say that I'm going to start off with that. I'm not a gatekeeper, always down to share the knowledge. But I do think for like mid and plus size girlies that want like all of that sort of stuff in general berries, they just have like some of the coolest curation of like cool indie brands. Fun, vintage and just like really unique items.
Lauren Egertson
Okay. Mine Vertigo for jewelry. For some of those like really cool chunky beaded pieces. It's like very organic feeling like natural stone looking sort of a thing. High Sport has these very like this very fun summery, like very floral, bright color. All these colors. We've been talking about this cool print that has like a sort of like sportier. It's like all the things we've been talking about in one La Mer for bags and jewelry. And then this one's not like an if you know, you know, because everyone knows. But I will say if you're like trying to lean into the Missoni Poochie summer of it all, that maybe like the cooler take is Dries van Noten.
Kat Collings
I'll throw one in the mix. Mine for summer, I think is Behen. I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly. It's a Portuguese brand and they, I think do exceptionally well. The sort of lace white summer look, which, you know is kind of key when you think about something you want to wear to say, like a barbecue or something like that. Maybe it's your bridal summer and you need a beautiful white suit sort of lace look. They do it in like a really cool way. It's not so like overly girly or anything like that. It's really directional but has this like soft femininity that I love. Well, thank you guys. I feel truly downloaded for summer. Ready for a season of style?
Lauren Egertson
Yes. Thank you for having us, Kat. This is so fun.
