This week on Time on Screen, Zach Kazan and Kat Shoulders explore High Fidelity, the cult hit starring John Cusack as a lovelorn record store owner from 2000. Why High Fidelity? Two reasons. First, it’s set in Chicago, and ahead of our Windup Watch Fair in the Windy City, we wanted to check out a Chicago set film. Second, this movie is truly about an entire enthusiast culture. There are more than a few similarities between the music obsessives in this film and watch enthusiasts we all experience on a daily basis. It’s impossible to watch High Fidelity as a watch person and not think about the person in your collecting circle who most reminds you of Jack Black’s character. We hope to see you in Chicago in just a matter of days for Windup! Let us know in the comments what other Chicago set movies we could have considered, and if you can think of other films about niche enthusiast communities. This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Zach Kazan is joined by Zach Weiss to take a look back at the year so far. We’re about halfway through 2026, so it feels like a good time to think about some of our favorite watches of the year so far, as well as some of the biggest watch stories. This has actually been a very eventful year to this point, with too many great releases to name, and some major changes to the trade show scene which will have a major impact on 2027. We discuss it all in this episode, plus a shared cultural recommendation at the end that might just be a trailer for the greatest movie ever made. We’ll find out on Christmas Day. This week on the podcast, Zach Kazan welcomes Kat Shoulders to the show to explore a topic first covered here: watch writing cliches. Zach and Kat run through some of the cliches mentioned in Zach’s original article and discuss whether these ideas hold up and why they happen in the first place. It’s actually an interesting conversation, and gets to the heart of how watches are covered in the media, and what approach should be taken. We’d love to know your thoughts, so let us know what cliches need to be permanently retired in the comments below. Before that, Zach and Kat also cover a handful of big new releases, including new watches from Fears, Doxa, and J.N. Shapiro. This week on the podcast, Zach Kazan is joined by Worn & Wound cofounder Zach Weiss as well as contributor Cait Bazemore for our latest Q&A session with questions submitted through the Worn & Wound+ Slack channel. Lots of great questions this month, including a whole bunch of non-watch questions, which we always appreciate. This month, the team tackles hot button issues like the most overrated and underrated pizza toppings, and, we’re finally doing it: our bagel orders. There are a few watch related questions in there as well if that’s what you’re still coming to the podcast for, including one about what’s going on with Seiko, and the most impactful watch of the year so far. This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Zach welcomes Cait Bazemore to talk about her recent trip to Japan with Citizen to check out their Eco-Drive manufacturing facilities. This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Zach welcomes Cait Bazemore to talk about her recent trip to Japan with Citizen to check out their Ec-Drive manufacturing facilities. Citizen is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Eco-Drive this year, so they took the rare step to open up their headquarters in Japan to media in celebration of the big event. In this conversation, Cait talks about what made this trip unique, setting it apart from the usual watch media press trip experience. Today also marks the release of a new Horological Machine from MB&F, and Cait also had the opportunity to speak with MB&F designer Max Maertens about his latest creation for the brand ahead of its release. The HM12 “Guardian” is one of MB&F’s biggest swings to date (literally, it’s a very large robot…) and there’s a lot to unpack, so Zach and Cait spend some time talking about where this release fits in with the MB&F collection and their initial impressions of it after seeing it in person. This week on the podcast, Zach and Kat are talking summer watches. This is a conversation we return to every year, it seems. As the weather warms up, it becomes apparent that some watches are just better suited to the summer months. Zach and Kat each pick summer watches in three categories: favorite affordable summer watch, the summer watch they’ll actually be wearing this year, and a grail summer watch. Before that, they unpack and define the very nature of the summer watch, whether this is a completely made up concept, and why we’re drawn to certain watches as the temperatures rise. This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Zach Kazan welcomes Ben Cook. If you spend any time on Instagram or TikTok, you probably know Ben from the Ben’s Watches accounts on those platforms. In this episode, Zach and Ben have a wide ranging conversation about the state of the watch world, watch media, and touch on some new releases that have been on our minds as of late (yes, the Royal Pop is discussed on this podcast for the third week in a row…). This week on the podcast, what else could we possibly discuss but the launch of the Royal Pop? The new Swatch x Audemars Piguet collaboration has been the topic of conversation around the watch world, and it’s that rare release that has actually transcended our community and become a bit of a pop culture moment more broadly. The bioceramic pocket watch has proven to be divisive among watch enthusiasts, and the launch day itself was a mess, with many Swatch stores closing for the day thanks to unruly crowds. Zach Kazan welcomes Zach Weiss and Cait Bazemore to the pod this week to talk about all of it! This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Zach Kazan is joined by Garrett Jones for our monthly Q&A episode. Questions this month cover topics like Grand Seiko’s release strategy, the best straps for summer, and, of course, condiments (we’re about the trademark “Condiment Corner” for use on this podcast). We also got a lot of questions on the new watches from Swatch and Audemars Piguet, which at the time of this recording were not yet announced. Literally minutes after hitting “stop” on the recording, the press release came through, and all was revealed. So you’ll hear a lot of speculation on this podcast about a watch that by the time you hear the episode will have been largely digested by the watch community, but hopefully listeners enjoy seeing how wrong (and how right!) we were in some of our thoughts on what might come from these very different brands. This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, the team is back from San Francisco, and yet another great edition of the Windup Watch Fair. Zach Kazan and Kat Shoulders are on the mic to recap the fair via a series of rapid fire questions covering their favorite versions of the new Christopher Ward Sealander (there are a bunch), to their favorite brands making Windup debuts, and even their favorite dining experiences in what is one of the country’s great food cities. There’s a lot to talk about, but we also want to hear from you. If you made it to San Francisco this weekend and attended the fair, what caught your eye? Let us know in the comments.
