The Wrap Beers return for another week on the pod. To start things off, The Beers introduce what we are drinking for this episode - Athletic Brewing Company’s non-alcoholic Free Wave (1:35). The Beers then discuss a trip to the iconic Film Forum on Houston Street to see a rare showing of Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2 in one of the more unique movie-watching experiences to date (6:01). Dylan shares his review of the 2001 British crime film SEXY BEAST, directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Ben Kingsley in an Oscar-nominated performance (19:56). Roger follows up with another British-heavy movie, offering his review of Guy Ritchie’s THE GENTLEMEN, which stars a heavyweight cast featuring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Collin Farrell, Hugh Grant, and Jeremy Strong in one of the more beloved dark comedies since the pandemic (30:37). To wrap it up, The Beers give a quick recommendation for Seth Rogen’s new comedy series THE STUDIO (36:40).Hosts: Dylan J. The Beers are back in Queens for another episode, united in friendship, and joined by a six pack of Summer Ale from Five Boroughs Brewing Co based in Brooklyn (0:31). To start off the show, The Beers dive right into their biggest gripe with going to the movies nowadays (1:48), followed by a rundown of trailers for upcoming movies set to release in 2025, which include THE NAKED GUN remake, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER remake, THE LIFE OF CHUCK, THE MATERIALISTS, and EDDINGTON (4:57). Headlining the episode, Dylan offers an introduction of Tim Robinson, or as we like to call him, “the king of aggressive stupidity” (9:36), setting up The Beers review of FRIENDSHIP, which stars Robinson and Paul Rudd in what will likely go down as the most cringe comedy to hit theaters this year (14:36). The Beers then spill their go-to streamers in 2025 and recap the evolution of HBO into HBO MAX, again (27:28). To wrap it up, a dirty dozen of Letterboxd reviews featuring some comedy classics that may have been forgotten by most, but are timeless to many (38:36).Sip back and enjoy!Hosts: Dylan J. After a month-long hiatus, The Beers swing back into gear with shenanigans that pay tribute to the late Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller and a homage to AIM chat rooms of the 2000s (0:23). Next, The Beers introduce the Drink of Choice for the episode - The Pursuit IPA from Six Point Brewery (6:23). The Beers peel back the facts, faults, and fallacies of Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on films made outside of the US and also shed light on the active threat to the arts in the theatre realm across the country (8:04). For the rest of the episode, The Beers give an in-depth review of Alfonso Cuarón’s breakout movie, the international 2001 classic, Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN, which may just be the best road film of the 2000s (25:17). To wrap it up, Dylan and Rog give their current picks from the Criterion Closet (1:01:15).Hosts: Dylan J.
