John Philip Newell is a renowned Celtic teacher and author known for his spirituality teachings that inspire a reawakening to the sacredness of Earth and humanity. Canadian-born and Scottish, he lives with his wife Ali in the Findhorn ecovillage in Scotland. Founder of the Earth & Soul initiative, he teaches internationally, leads pilgrimages on Iona, and has authored over fifteen books, including the award-winning Sacred Earth Sacred Soul. His upcoming book, The Great Search (August 2024), explores humanity’s spiritual yearnings amidst religion’s decline. A self-described “wandering teacher,” he integrates Celtic poetic and scholarly traditions with spiritual, ecological, and political awareness. Newell relinquished his Church of Scotland ordination in 2020 but remains a “grateful son of the Christian household” engaging with diverse spiritual wisdom. He has received accolades like the Contemplative Voices Award and the Sacred Universe Award for his contributions to spirituality and ecological compassion.
