Podcast Host 1
What do you watch? Hockey.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, No, I like hockey. I don't even. I don't like hockey.

Podcast Host 1
No, they tailgate outside the arena.
Matty Matheson
Well, yeah, if you tailgate. Oh, with the moff. I. I've been a couple tailgates. Yeah. I haven't. I've never jumped through a table. Bill's mafia. Shout out to Bill's Mafia As a whole. Just a beautiful culture. Absolutely. That's What? The culture. That's the kind of culture we need.

Matty Matheson
The first edit. I want out edited out.
Podcast Host 2

Matty Matheson

Podcast Host 2
Real quick, because you are an extremely stylish guy, maybe even a style icon to quite a few gentlemen out there. Can we just get a quit f Check everything that you're wearing?
Matty Matheson
Check.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Hat, shirt, black.
Podcast Host 1
What does it say on the hat there?
Matty Matheson
That's super. That's my new film company. Got a film company. Super athletic film company. Starting that out. And then what's the reason for that name? Well, film juxtaposition. I'm hella athletic. I'm super athletic.
Podcast Host 1
Not a jock, but athletic.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, not a jock, but super. I'm spry. Jump offense. You know, run upstairs, get. Get off the toilet with the smooth quickness.
Podcast Host 2
Can't teach speed, man.
Matty Matheson
You're born with it. Yeah. Like, it's like I'm like a kitty cat kind of lazy sometimes. Literally Ubered here three blocks.
Podcast Host 2
It was hot.
Matty Matheson
It was hot out, though. Three blocks. Well, no. 6, I'd say. I looked at it on the Google maps, and then I was like, that's six. That's hot. I'm not walking there because I don't want to show up. Fully disgusting.
Podcast Host 1
It's also like the. If I.
Matty Matheson
And I just ate a tuna melt. So I was just like. I was like, tuna melt into the heat. Six blocks. I'm gonna get up. Yeah, Uber. It's gonna me up. So put that on. So I named my. My. Our film Me, Ricky and Hannah started this film production company. So this is a hat we're launching. You guys are coming Sunday.
Podcast Host 1
Let's go.
Matty Matheson
You guys are coming Sunday. We're having a little party, and we want to make. We're making stuff. And we had, like, a short film here in Tribeca, so that's why I was here yesterday. But that's my hat. Whatever Hat.
Podcast Host 1
And then.
Matty Matheson
And then shirt. EBay.
Podcast Host 2
Vintage.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, vintage shirt. Great. Perfect. Carhartt jeans. 20 bucks. EBay.
Podcast Host 2
What are these, prison slippers?
Matty Matheson
Just zigzags. Why nos also like 40 bucks. And then socks, I think. Hanes underwear. I think just like some Walmart Reeboks. And about this wrist. My Wrist. My Wrist is like a 40s oyster. Military spec. Canadian. Lipton. So like Lipton family, you know, shadow some soups. Soup boy. Rolly Tea Soup.
Podcast Host 2
Rolly rolly.
Matty Matheson
With a band I got, you know, with a band that I thought was cool, I got the little things. I can switch them, you know, so I'm switching stuff.
Podcast Host 1
What does it say on the side?
Matty Matheson
Piper Ride.
Podcast Host 1
No ride.
Matty Matheson
Ride.
Podcast Host 3
Piper.
Matty Matheson
Piper motorcycles. It says Piper motorcycles. Piper.
Podcast Host 2
Mr. Pipe down over here.
Matty Matheson
Mental health month. Let's go.
Podcast Host 1
Pipe down.
Matty Matheson
Pipe up, Pipe up. Yeah, so just like fitted up, really. Just holding it together. No belt.
Podcast Host 1
Do you ever wear shorts? Like especially in the heat.
Matty Matheson
Not in public really. Well, I have, but like, no. I think in my older age I'm like, I'm not doing shorts in public. Swimming trunks, that's all I got.
Podcast Host 1
Do you tear the sleeves yourself or you just pick your tees up like that?
Matty Matheson
I think I cut these ones. I'm sure I cut these one.
Podcast Host 1
And you like stretch out the neck and everything?
Matty Matheson
I stretch out, yeah.
Podcast Host 2
So like we can tell. We could, yeah.
Matty Matheson
I'm like a straight. I don't like a tight neck. I hate, I hate a high collar. I hate the fat collars. I hate a thick T shirt. Hate a thick T shirt. I don't like quality.
Podcast Host 1
Paper thin.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, Quality. Can fogging suck my dick. I hate the qualities.
Podcast Host 2
Well, if you take anything away from this episode, it's to tell quality to suck your dick.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, yeah, Quality, like well made, long lasting.
Podcast Host 3
Nope.
Matty Matheson
No.
Podcast Host 1
Who needs that?
Matty Matheson
I want old stinky smells like, I want old mossy, dusty stinky on your dinky. Stinky on my dinky. Keep my denim close, you know, Keep my zippers broken. Piss stained pants, you know.
Podcast Host 2
You're the best man.
Matty Matheson
All right, that's it. So that's why I'm an icon. Because I don't give a fuck.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And everybody else is looking and I'm just living.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, bars, you're looking.
Podcast Host 1
I'm living.
Matty Matheson
You're looking. I'm living. I don't know. I don't look back.
Podcast Host 2
Take a photo to last long.
Podcast Host 1
We want to get. We want to get deep into. Deep into your whole philosophy of living.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
In the meat and potatoes of the only podcast, Maddie. The last season of the Bear.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Is right around the corner. I think a few episodes will be out by the time this episode drops. What can we expect from the final season of the Bear?
Matty Matheson
What can we. I'm just saying, like, it's wet, a lot of weather, you know, it's Chicago. Chicago. A lot of weather on this one. A lot of lightning. You know, a lot of issues with the restaurant. A lot of ups and downs. I still can't talk too much. Like, it's.
Podcast Host 2
You guys are always having issues.
Matty Matheson
Well, you know, restaurants, man, they're hectic.
Podcast Host 1
It looked like Neil was having an issue with, like, the. The. The vaccine.
Matty Matheson
The vac. Yeah, I'm deep in the wall. I'm trying to H Vac or not H Vac. Fucking shop vac. Extradite. Some water fudgeing. Get that shit out of here. Fucking sucks.
Podcast Host 2
That's your storyline. Just extradite.
Matty Matheson
Just extraditing. I'm fucking Seal Team 6, Water Boy. I'm down there waterboarding myself to soaking it up.
Podcast Host 1
All right, Was there. Was there, like, extra pressure to stick the landing on such a beloved show?
Matty Matheson
But try not to think about it. Like, try to think about, like. I think I always. Like. I'm like, it's. I feel Chris is very good at this. Put the blinders on and just go. We write the story that we want. Don't play to the crowd. Obviously, we don't do that, really, honestly. But it is a. Just finish the way that the story feels, you know, like, Chris. That's the way Chris wants to wrap that up, is the way we went down.
Podcast Host 2
We're going to be satisfied as the audience, you think, put a bow on that. I think expectations are very high, as you know.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, sure. I'm like, what do you. This show's about a job. I don't know if anybody knows the show's. It's not, you know, got thanos, you know, Like, I'm like, the world keeps moving.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, I'm always like, the expectation. I'm like, guys, it's a show about
Podcast Host 2
a job that's a great.
Matty Matheson
And the guy's like, my brother died, and now I gotta go have another job that I don't really want.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So I'm like, I don't know, man. Like, it is hard where I'm like, I think of it just as, like, I find it truly kind of. I'm like, homie's got a job like my job. And then he's just like, shows the season's over, and we're like, man, maybe, dang, my job.
Podcast Host 1
What if his job was harder?
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, I'm like, I don't know. It is a funny thing. I'm like, you know, fucking Sydney is like, the chef, you know, like, Heinl keeps making pastries. Like, you know, like, it is Like, a thing where I'm like, you know, the expectations of the world, of this job, of this show about jobs, about people. But the thing is, is, like, the show is about, like, the people. It is. I do think people get to where they want to be. I think. I think people find themselves. I think people push themselves to. Through uncomfortable situations. I think a lot of. Because it is such an ensemble show, I do think people reach goals by the end of it. That where they feel at peace.
Podcast Host 1
What's up with Neil's rat tail in the season, bro?
Matty Matheson
I left that on the floor.
Podcast Host 2
I cut it after, like, literally on the floor.
Matty Matheson
Well, I. Yeah, I. I kept. I'm gonna hang it somewhere, but I got it braided at my house. But his rat tail's just chilling. He's there. That's his strength.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, right.
Matty Matheson
That's. That's one of many strengths. Neil is such a Best supporting actor. The best. The best supporting.
Podcast Host 2
Are you acting at all, or are you just existing? Has Neil, like.
Matty Matheson
No, I. I think Neil's very different than me.
Podcast Host 1
Really?
Matty Matheson
I think, like, an exaggeration, not an ex. No, no. Like, Well, I think. Well, I think Neil is closer to who I am as a real person than, you know, my Persona on the Internet. And, like, you know, a lot of people just know me from my cooking videos. Sure, if you only know me from my cooking videos. I speak a certain way. I yell a certain way.
Podcast Host 1
You're peeking.
Matty Matheson
I'm peaked. I'm peaked out. I'm fully tweaking. I'm tweaked and peaked. So it's just like. But that's that thing, right?
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So, like, if you only know me from that, like, I meet a lot of people and they're like, oh, you're like, not. And I'm just like, no, I'm just. I'm sitting here eating this tartar too, buddy. You know, Like, I'm just. I'm not. Yeah, I'm. I'm. I'm here.
Podcast Host 1
We're enjoying a tuna melt.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like, I'm sitting here at the bar by myself. The world keeps yelling. Live narration of what's going around around me. But do people want that when they meet you?
Podcast Host 2
They want some crazy psycho.
Matty Matheson
I think so. A lot of people. Or people will be like, oh, you're. You're so nice. Like, you're so things. I'm like, okay. Or like, the truly, the greatest is when they do an impersonation of you. Have you had people on that? Like. Like, it is, like, a thing where they Come up and they'll say, like, even what People will come up, I'm sure will quote you or say things about what you guys have spoken upon, you know? And it's just like. That is the thing that, like, drives me nuts is when, like, it gets me.
Podcast Host 1
Do a good job.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, they.
Matty Matheson
It doesn't matter. It's just crazy. I'm like, this. Nobody wins here. Nobody.
Podcast Host 2
Nobody sucks. What do they do?
Matty Matheson
This is so fancy. You've been thinking about this for so long.
Podcast Host 1
What are they doing? Like, spilling flower?
Matty Matheson
Like, hey, chicken balls.
Podcast Host 2
Tear my shirt off.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, it's just like. I'm like, bro, we are in public. There are people that don't know what's happening. But there's. There's. There's even, like, recently, like, my band was playing this show, and. And there was a guy in line, and he had this poster of me, and he starts, like, yelling lines from the shows. And I'm like, I. I'm like. Sometimes they say. I'm like, I don't even know what you're talking about. I don't watch me. I don't. I. I go in. I black walk away. I. I block. Shoot this. I shot that six months ago. I don't even know what the you're talking about. I don't know what I cooked. I don't remember anything. And they're so excited, and it's amazing. But I, like, I went up to the guy, and I was just like, hey, man. Like. Like, we're good. Like, you don't have to do that. Like, let's take a photo if you want. Whatever. But it is just, like, a thing where I'm like, I think people just. But I'm also like, I understand that people are stoked. I understand that people are. They love it out. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Who are we talking right now? We're talking to, Maddie or Matthew?
Matty Matheson
Me, I'm just. I'm always Maddie, but I'm just like, Matthew's just for Joni, my mom, you know, just when I'm in trouble, she's just like, matthew James. Matthew James. Joanie, what do you. And she's like, you're drunk again. I'm just like, no, mom.
Podcast Host 2
Nope.
Matty Matheson
Get off of me.
Podcast Host 2
Back to the bear real quick. What was the last day on set like?
Matty Matheson
It was. Honestly, it's like. It's one of those. It was. It was. We were doing locations, so it was like. It wasn't like. It was. I didn't even realize. The last day, I was, like, on set. And then all Of a sudden, everyone's like, dude, like, last day. And I was just like, whoa. I didn't even clock it.
Podcast Host 2
Wow.
Matty Matheson
And then I was just like, we're never gonna come here again. And then this set gets torn down tomorrow. Yeah. You know, it's just like. I was just like, whoa. Five years of her life. Like, I didn't even go to college for that long. Like, I'm like, yeah. Like, it is this crazy thing.
Podcast Host 3
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And I was just like, whoa. And it feels like, you know, I've had restaurants closed. I've had things open. Like, I understand, like, wins and losses, but it's crazy to have, like, a win and it still goes away.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
You know, like a real. Like, it is this crazy thing where you're like, but it is. It. It's the last day. It's sad. Like, it was. No, I'm not. I'm broken. I. I can't.
Podcast Host 1
You can't.
Matty Matheson
I've spoken about this before, but I've been.
Podcast Host 1
A long time ago.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. The crying for me for, like, that type of stuff. Unfortunately, I. I can't. I don't know. I'll work on that. I work on that often. Still don't know.
Podcast Host 1
So it was just sad.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, it was sad. I was very sad. I was sad for, like, a month after.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, wow.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, we finished shooting. Ended, like, February, first week of March. But, like, I. Yeah, I was sad for a month. I was. I. It was like this thing that, like. And I was, like, checking in with my guys and being like, yo. And I'm like. Like, I even saw, like, Evan just came over to the hotel for, like, an hour. We just chilled and, like, it goes like. Everyone's like, I love everyone so much. And it's just like, the. That's the thing is, like, our friendships get to all the cliches, you know, we get friends for life. Beautiful thing. Our lives literally changed from this thing, you know? What an incredible ride. Yeah. Like, it's like we never thought it was going to be what it was. It turned into what it was, and now we go away. Loved and hated. Perfect. Like, I think I'm so stoked on the people that hate us. I'm stoked on the people that love us. It's incredible if you're in the middle your dog shit. So it's just, like, people think our show's the worst.
Podcast Host 1
Perfect.
Matty Matheson
Thank you so much.
Podcast Host 1
So, I don't know. What, are you nostalgic? Like, what's the. Were you thinking about, like, what's the one Memory that you hold on forever from, like the five plus years that you put into this thing.
Matty Matheson
Just smoking cigs, you know, like, I don't know, just like, I think it's just playing dice. Like, it's all the things in between making the show so fun. Like, also, like, truly, I think the opportunity to go and do this and then, like, have everyone care so much and then have everyone be a part of it and then, like, give me this thing that, like, I'm like, it's just like I'm working with all these amazing actors. They've given me so much just an acting. I mean, I don't think I'm ever going to be a great actor. I don't want to be a great actor. I don't want anything but just doing something you've never done before and having just the openness of everyone around you and the givingness and like, everyone just being like, everyone's just like dogs. That when we all love each other and it's just like, here we go. Like, let's like. Maddie, Maddie, have you ever thought about, like, your, like, Like, I remember season Eben was like, have you ever, like, thought about, like, fact or like, you're still just trying to spit out lines? Like, you know, have you ever thought about who he is, where he is in his family? He, you know, you got like, what, five, six, seven, eight, nine siblings. Where. Where did what. Obviously Neil's somewhere where he's an incredible people pleaser. He's an incredible, like, support person who wants everyone to win. He wants everyone to be happy. He seems to be never really defeated, but he's also like. He is a little sad boy at times. He wants to overcome his. His thing. I never thought about that. I never. I never thought about character. I just like, trying to spit out lines.
Podcast Host 1
Remember the line who was the most generous with their cigarettes on set?
Matty Matheson
Jeremy Allen White. Yeah, that boy's got smoke. That boy. That boy's got six. He pulls up to the red carpet, he's got four. Four packs deep.
Podcast Host 1
What was the preferred. What was the set's preferred dart?
Matty Matheson
What?
Podcast Host 1
Like, what was the. What was the brand of choice that everyone.
Matty Matheson
We would. Well, just American spirit. Yellows or blues? Yellows and blues.
Podcast Host 2
You're gonna smoke?
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like, I would even bring. I'd bring out, you know, shout out. We're just shouting out Sigs. Shout out some Belmonts from Canada. Everyone wants some bellies bring home some, like, Belmonts from Toronto because everyone smokes Belmonts. You know, someone goes to Europe, bring Back some. Go wash.
Podcast Host 1
It sounds like prison. It sounds like.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Dyson 6. We spent a lot of time playing Dyson 6.
Podcast Host 2
Wow.
Podcast Host 3
Dude.
Podcast Host 1
There's a lot of dudes.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Couldn't leave the boys. No one's allowed to leave. Everyone has to gamble. Everyone has a gam.
Podcast Host 2
Say the right.
Matty Matheson
I'll lend you money to gamble if you don't have it, you know, you
Podcast Host 1
have to say that you have to say the right things. Right?
Matty Matheson
You gotta say. Yeah. You gotta say the nice thing. We gotta. You know, it's sounds like a time, man. Sounds like a time, honestly, you know, like, it is one of those things, like, just being on a sound. We're in a sound stage.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah. Yeah.
Matty Matheson
You know, like, we're. We're there. So it's just like, parking lot hangs. We're mostly just hanging out in the parking lot. Yeah. Like, it is one of those things. There's train tracks by it, so we go, like, hang out by the train tracks. Like, honestly, like, we're just like, hanging
Podcast Host 2
a bunch of gutter snipes.
Matty Matheson
You guys are orphans. Yeah, we're in an industrial area, like, in South Chicago.
Podcast Host 2
Stars. They're just like us.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like, we're.
Podcast Host 1
We're butchers.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Also, like, Evan just rolls his cigarettes, which pisses everybody off because it always takes long. And he's just like, you know, he's that guy. You know, Evan's that guy.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, he's an actor.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, he's really. His thespian guy. On Broadway with birth.
Podcast Host 1
Who is your. Who's your bestie on set? Who's, like, the number one dog?
Matty Matheson
Ricky. Yeah, Ricky's my dog. Ricky's my dog for life. And even jaw, like, he. We. We always. We stayed at, like, the level, which is like the. You know, I feel it's like people who go to college or university and, like, they move into a place and they all have, like, the Patagonia vests, like, the things. And they all work. Everyone works out. Everyone's young.
Podcast Host 3
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
You get in the elevator, everyone's talking about stuff. I don't understand. Like. Like investment stuff and, like, things. And, like, there's, like, stuff, and then it's just like, everyone's got dogs. Every single human has a dog. I'm like, you guys, like, what the has dogs? I don't. I don't even understand, like. Okay, I'm just like. I'm weird, but I'm just like. But a lot of people, we started there at this, like, place called the Level. And. And. And then, like, Everyone kind of trickled away. Everyone's kind of over it. Living in this, like, you know, this. This thing.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And so then, like. But me and Jeremy, like, held strong. We're like, nah, dog. We're finishing it.
Podcast Host 2
Like.
Matty Matheson
Like the last season, it was just me and him.
Podcast Host 2
Wow.
Matty Matheson
And so, like, you know, we would. We hang out every day. So it's just like me and him on the balcony, just ripping cigs, going to the gym, talking about dogs. Yeah, about dogs and like, talking shit. Like, just being like all these. All these young kids that are yoked and we're just like, everybody. We just go in there just like, with like, stinky shit.
Podcast Host 1
Is John not fucking tossing plates in the gym with these guys?
Matty Matheson
Yeah, no, but he's our yuppie. Are.
Podcast Host 2
Yup.
Matty Matheson
Like, you can't go. Like, we're not going in there. Trying to get real. Like, we're not. We're being quiet, going, you know, we're just on the cable machine. Just like. Just like all these kids over there with 75 pounds dumbbell, just throwing them around. You're like, what you guys doing? Yeah, what you guys? What you guys?
Podcast Host 1
Can you tell? Can you tell? Jaw. Jeremy Allen White to one, come on, the pod.
Podcast Host 2
Come on.
Podcast Host 1
Fits. And two, renew his Patreon subscription. We know for a fact that he's a big listener and once upon a time paid money to listen to us.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Jeremy, Jeremy, if you know we're gonna
Podcast Host 1
leak your email, we.
Podcast Host 2
We would never. But that is a threat.
Matty Matheson
Jeremy Allen White at AOL Hotmail.
Podcast Host 1
Well, speaking of acting, what was your reaction? Like, what went through your head? First thoughts when you heard that you got that. You're gonna be in Toy Story 5, dude.
Matty Matheson
Let's go.
Podcast Host 1
Let's go.
Matty Matheson
Whatever. I was just like, what? Like, as soon as I was just like, whatever they want.
Podcast Host 2
Where do I sign?
Matty Matheson
Don't care. You know, fucking lovely. And also, like, first off, I'm just like. Like, obviously. It's like, what am I? You know, because it wasn't even an audition. It's an offer. Like, like, they just came and I was just like, also, like, it is such a trip because you're just like, I was there, what, two nights ago. I was there two nights ago for the premiere. Just, you know, Randy Newman on the keys.
Podcast Host 1
How is Taylor?
Matty Matheson
Everyone talking about sure to go. Randy Newman. Randy Newman just fucking. Just a beautiful sea turtle carved out a rock out there. It's like, dude, Randy still got it. He's on those keys, killing it.
Podcast Host 1
Tickle the ivory, dude.
Matty Matheson
But it was. It was. Yeah. It's just like, who am I? And then they're like, oh, you're Dr. Nut Case. You're like this peanut with the lucha Libre fudgeing mask. And, like, you're fudgeing. You know, all my scenes are just, like, with Woody. So it's just like. It's great. Or there's a couple other people.
Podcast Host 1
Are you in the studio with Tom or is it like.
Podcast Host 2
Like, Future and Young Thug?
Matty Matheson
I'm in Buffalo, New York, at the thing with. But I'm with Andrew, like, the director and, like, the people. And, like, we're having fun. It literally, Maybe it was 45 minutes.
Podcast Host 1
Did you think about the doctor nutcase character?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
No, no. I didn't even do it for animated.
Podcast Host 2
I don't read.
Matty Matheson
I don't even read.
Podcast Host 2
I just pull up and read some method voice acting.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, I'm just. My voice is. Obviously, they want my voice to be my voice. And it's like, more. And there's, like, this character is, like, screaming and, like, losing his mind. He's like. You know, he's let. Like, he's letting the world know tablets are bad.
Podcast Host 2
His name is Dr. Nutcase Doctor, and it's Doctor.
Matty Matheson
You know, don't be calling him just Nutcase Dog.
Podcast Host 2
Doctor.
Podcast Host 1
What was your favorite toy growing up?
Matty Matheson
In general?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. As a kid, GI Joe's Classic. I'd say GI Joe's.
Podcast Host 2
The big ones are the small ones.
Matty Matheson
Small ones, yeah, just like GI Joe's. I remember one year, maybe I was in, like, grade one or two Christmas, like, vhs. Like, you know, mom and dad got the VHS shoulder pack going. The bazooka. The bazooka. They got the bazooka on. And me and my brothers. Well, I have an older. I always feel bad when I talk about my brothers because we're all, like, two years apart. And then my sister's 10 years older than us. But, you know, Sarah's cool. Whatever. But it's just like. So me and the boys going downstairs, fellas, and we got the. My dad somehow got like, the entire collection sick and set up, like, GI Joe versus Cobra. All the set up in the basement. And we went down there and it was the greatest Christmas of all time. And it was just like. Like, hand me down. Nothing was in package. It was all out. And he said it all, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got hooked up from, like, one of my parents. Kids from, like, church or something, you know, But. But, like, that was probably, like, the greatest memory of, like, being a kid. And, like, Walking downstairs and having that moment.
Podcast Host 2
There's footage of this.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like my parents, for sure. Definitely. I've definitely seen it. Not recently, but, like us with our family tape, my dad was just like it.
Podcast Host 1
And what do you make them fight? You make them fight each other?
Matty Matheson
Smash them. Just go down there. You know, I'm on one side, my other two brothers because they like each other. And I was the middle kid, so then they hated me. But they're both norms, so, like, you know, Beef and Grizz, Good luck.
Podcast Host 1
Beef and Grizz.
Matty Matheson
Beef and Grizz.
Podcast Host 1
Be and Grizz are the normies.
Matty Matheson
They're the normies. Not so norm.
Podcast Host 2
But they're norms compared to you.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
It's all relative.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, it's all. I was. I was wild. And they were. They were wild, but different.
Podcast Host 1
But are they. Are those nicknames? Were those real names?
Matty Matheson
No. Steve and Adam.
Podcast Host 1
Okay, so what was your. What was your Grizz?
Matty Matheson
I was just middle, literally. I didn't get Maddie until college and then. But back home it was just Matt or Matt. Everyone called me Matheson, so I was always like, Matheson. And then Beef was. Because he used to get blackout drunk on Black Velvet. It's not even like Bee, like Beavis and Butthead. It was more like bv. So people used to call him bv. And then it just turned into kind of like Beef and Grizz. And then Grizz is. He's. He's the youngest brother, but he's, like, tall and always just been big. Like, he would just, like, pound weed and, like, work out, like, his whole life. And he's just yolked.
Podcast Host 2
So. Grizzly Bear.
Matty Matheson
Yes, Grizz is Grizz, you know, kind of. You know, he's a little.
Podcast Host 2
And let's not forget Sarah.
Matty Matheson
Sarah's just fantastic. Just a great older sister. Two beautiful children.
Podcast Host 1
So with the three of you, like, mistakes?
Matty Matheson
No, we're my parents. We were brought up Mormons. So they were just having. They're populating. We're trying to get the message out there. John. We needed John Smith. Seed.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah. Spread them.
Matty Matheson
Spread them.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
What is the right age to give a kid an iPad?
Matty Matheson
I don't know. I was talking about this the other day with somebody because I'm just like your wife. I was. Yeah. I was talking to my roommate. Yeah, dude, I was. I was like, emailing my roommate about like, just kind of iPad choices and like, you know, are they going to turn into serial killers or mouth breathers or just like, absolute losers? No, I think it's like, our kids, I think we. What we do is kind of good.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
As good as it can be. From day one zero, public. If we are outside the house, they don't come in the cars. Right. Like, look out the window, get mad. I don't care. Feel feelings.
Podcast Host 1
Total. Your dick.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Something.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Learn how. Play with your, you know, sit in the back seat, act like nobody can tell, and you're back there just kicking your ass.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
You know, the. And then It's. We do 30 minutes of YouTube a week because my kids are like, 10, 10, 7, 5. And then they're only allowed to play certain amount games. Sure. And then YouTube only 30 minutes a week and 30 minutes of Nick Fuentes.
Podcast Host 2
That's it. And then.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like, the. I just tell, like, I want my son to get into manosphere stuff. I really want him to be, you're not hot enough. Yeah. Like, I want him. Shame. I want him to feel right away. I want him to feel. All women hate him. I want him to feel.
Podcast Host 1
He get jaw surgery with a. Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, tons of money now. So it's just like. I'm like, dude, like yourself up.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, I want my daughters to get into surgery right away. I want him to get, like, fakies. I think that's cool.
Podcast Host 1
Get the leg.
Matty Matheson
Each one teaches you. Yeah. So like, iPad stuff leads right into just, like, dysmorphia. Body dysmorphia. So I want them to get into that as fast as possible.
Podcast Host 2
So 30 minutes. YouTube max.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. A week. And then we put on time. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Do they ever watch you on YouTube?
Matty Matheson
No, they're not allowed to, I swear. And stuff.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, sure.
Matty Matheson
Like, yeah, we keep everything very separate. Like, they know who I am. They know you're their father.
Podcast Host 2
I hope so.
Matty Matheson
They know who I am. My children know who I am. I'm dad.
Podcast Host 2
Dad.
Matty Matheson
The landscaper is not dad. Dad.
Podcast Host 2
Okay.
Matty Matheson
Danny's not dad dad. I'm dad dad.
Podcast Host 1
Your kids follow you on Instagram?
Matty Matheson
My kids, I guess, don't have Instagram.
Podcast Host 1
What are you gonna be pissed if
Podcast Host 2
they are your kids when they get
Podcast Host 1
Instagram and they don't follow, you're gonna be like, yo, what the. Why don't you.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. What's up?
Podcast Host 2
Embarrassed, bro.
Podcast Host 1
That's weird.
Matty Matheson
It's on snap.
Podcast Host 2
I thought I raised team follow back.
Matty Matheson
This is Dude Mac.
Podcast Host 3
Dude.
Podcast Host 2
Are they stoked for Toy Story? They know data's in Toy Story.
Matty Matheson
They do.
Ad Host
They.
Matty Matheson
They know. They know big dogs there. They. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Do kids with toys these days or is it just.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, no, I think. No, no, my kids, we have like a. We got like a toy area and, like, very imaginative. Like, you give my. I don't know, you give my kids a box, right? And they're just building that.
Podcast Host 1
They're like kitty cats. Just like, they're dead.
Matty Matheson
They're just straight up kitty cats. They're. They're. They're incredible. Like, even, like yesterday, like, I was like, FaceTime, you know, punching in as a father. FaceTiming.
Podcast Host 2
Thank you for your service. Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And. And Trisha is just like, oh, my God. And like, Ozzy, who's five, she's just wrapping herself in, like, Saran Wrap. And I'm just like, this is. That's it. That's as good as it gets.
Podcast Host 1
Like, I gotta go.
Matty Matheson
I'm like, we're good. Like.
Podcast Host 2
Like, cut a hole for your mouth.
Matty Matheson
We're very lucky. Like, our children are extremely empathetic. They're sweethearts. They engage. They. Matt could sit here and do this pod with you guys.
Podcast Host 2
Set it up.
Matty Matheson
No problem. Like, he is such a good. Like, I hang out with him and I think we've always just spoken to our kids, like, normal. So I just feel like our kids are normal and like, they hang out like, Mac, like, whatever. Like, it's just the homie.
Podcast Host 1
You put him to work on the farm.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, yeah, but it's just like one of those,
Podcast Host 1
dude, children are economic units, you know?
Matty Matheson
Keenan, who's our farmer and my partner and, like, the loveliest person in the world. He's so funny and he's just like, Matt came out here the other day and was looking around. He's got his baseball glove. He's obsessed with baseball. And he's just like, throwing his ball in the glove and he's just, like, looking at me. He's like, one day there's gonna be a baseball diamond.
Podcast Host 2
Feel the dreams.
Matty Matheson
Literally, I'm tearing this all down and kid is like, I've never felt so small in my life. He's like, your son is like, walking around barefoot, just, like, no shirt on, just like, getting out the pool, just like, with this baseball glove. And he' like, one day, baseball field, you know? And like, dad. Dad said, yeah. You know, And I was like, Mac, I didn't say, we're. No, we need the farm, we need vegetables.
Podcast Host 2
Keenan must be gainfully employed.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
And he's not going to be an umpire.
Matty Matheson
No.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
We. Instead of farming, we just like, yeah. Everyone concentrates on my son's dreams. Becoming a Little League player.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Five Years later, he. I'm over baseball.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I'm completely over baseball. I can't wait. No, he sent me, dude. He sent me every. Like, he sent me because he broke his iPad recently. So this is. This is the other thing. He got home from school. You know, he's hungry. He's stressed out. Usually when kids get home from school, they're. That's, like, one of the worst times, you know? And Max there, and him and Trish, they get into, like, an argument, and all of a sudden, I just hear, like, Max screaming. No. And I'm just like, okay, what's actually going on? And. And Trish is just like. And he, like, shattered his iPhone, which is very. Not like, it's funny because I'm talking about this story, but I'm also like, he's not a brat.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Not like he isn't that. He is not.
Podcast Host 2
It's an isolated incident.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, very much so. But I still. He came. He was crying, and he cried for, like, three hours after.
Podcast Host 2
Oh. Built his iPad. I get it.
Matty Matheson
It was a lot, you know, because he watches. He watches, like, his baseball stuff on there.
Podcast Host 1
He got his 30 minutes in that week, buddy.
Matty Matheson
But I was just like, first one's free, dog. I want when you can get one. And he's like, what?
Podcast Host 1
Get to work on the farm?
Matty Matheson
And I was just like, you're gonna have to figure out how to work it off. Off.
Podcast Host 1
Wow.
Matty Matheson
I was like, you're gonna have to do chores. You're gonna have to do things. I am not just gonna go get you one.
Podcast Host 2
Right.
Matty Matheson
You do that again, I'll never get you another thing ever. I'm like, I. I need to have some type of, like. Is this, like, I love you. I'm not genuinely. I'm not even upset with you. You can do whatever you want to do, but here's just the repercussion.
Podcast Host 3
Right?
Podcast Host 1
Did it.
Podcast Host 2
Consequences.
Podcast Host 1
Did he get it?
Matty Matheson
Yeah, I think so. I mean, I'm just like. He was just like. He was still kind of in it. So I just like.
Ad Host
Like.
Matty Matheson
And then I left that night, actually, to leave for, you know, a month. So I was just like, yeah. And then I'm like, see a Trish?
Podcast Host 1
But the.
Matty Matheson
The. The.
Podcast Host 2
He.
Matty Matheson
He, like, now he's just messaging me from his sister's iPad. But he sent me a thing. He was like, dad, this is my dream baseball glove. And I'm like. Because I get all of his stuff just on ebay. Because I'm just like, it's a. They're worked in already. And they're 40 bucks versus 300. Baseball clubs are like, 300 bucks. And I was just like. He's like, this is my. I'm like, first off, that's baby blue. I was just like, that's great, but we're not getting you a baby blue baseball glove, my dog. So I was just like, colors. I was like, does that come in a different color? And, like, also, like, what's going on? I was just like, you have gloves. Your gloves are good.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
You are good baseball player. The glove doesn't make you a better baseball player. Like, I was just like. And he's just like, no, I just, like, love this one. I was just like, yeah, it'll pass. It'll pass. You loving that? Well, I'm a huge void filler. Huge. Getting stuff to make me feel. I was just like, don't worry, buddy. You'll be fine.
Podcast Host 2
You're fair.
Podcast Host 1
The void will still be there.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Don't worry. The void never ain't going nowhere.
Podcast Host 2
Trust me. This is gonna stick with you for quite a while, buddy.
Podcast Host 1
It seems like you've. You are a void filler, but you're also, like, not just with stuff, but with doing stuff.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Your latest venture, you're launching a production company, Super Athletic Film Company.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
What do you want to do behind the camera?
Matty Matheson
I want to make. I want to make people be. I want to help people make stuff. I'm like, that's what I love doing. That's what I. I've seen. I have found out what I really love doing. It's not restaurants, it's not clothing. It's not whatever I'm doing. I really like working with people. I like being creative and, like, enabling, platforming people. Yeah. Like, it's just like, Keenan wants to farm. Let's farm. How do we figure that out? I. I want to. I want a clothing company. How do we. We genuinely make clothes? How do we feed people?
Podcast Host 2
Right.
Matty Matheson
I like restaurants. How do we do that? I don't physically go and put on the chef whites and get in there and start banging around pots and pans. That's not what I'm good at. I'm relatively good at cooking.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I'm very good. Like, strengths and weaknesses. Like, I'm very good at seeing if somebody's actually going to be good at something and believing in them and then getting people to believe in me and believing in them.
Podcast Host 3
Wow.
Matty Matheson
And so it's just like, I want to make movies. I also want to make stuff. I like making stuff. Making the bear changed My life.
Podcast Host 1
What do you want to make?
Matty Matheson
I want to make. I. We're working on like some TV stuff. We're working on some movie stuff. We're just working on stuff. We're just like getting our ducks in a row. Like everybody, you know, like, it is a thing. It's just like, it's a lot of homework. It's a lot of work. And so I'm just getting like outlines done. I'm getting scripts done. I'm working on like, I'm working on like writing my first script.
Podcast Host 1
Oh.
Matty Matheson
So it's just like, there's things that I'm like trying to push. I'm like, oh, yeah, I've written a cookbook. I've written this. I could write a script. I under, like, how hard could it be? Yeah, how hard could anything. But that's the thing. It's like, I'm not. I don't think it's belittling to try. That's the thing is like, I'm willing to try. I'm willing to get people together. I'm willing to do that. And so I think super athletic is one of those things that is, that's it. Like, it's just like, I want a team. I like team.
Podcast Host 1
The first time, the first time we podcast with you In I think 2020, we were expecting to talk about food.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
And like tv. And you're like, oh, I'm working on TV show. And we're like, what?
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Excuse me.
Matty Matheson
The bear.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Wow. Who could have, who could have like, seen it? Like, it's crazy. Look at.
Matty Matheson
It is crazy. But I think that that's the thing is like, that is that once in a lifetime moment. And I've had, I don't think I've had many things like the bear, but it's also like, you never know what it's going to be.
Podcast Host 1
Do you think people do. The general philosophy or sensor attitude is like trying.
Matty Matheson
I think so. That's why I think a lot of people complain.
Podcast Host 2
Sure, it's easier to complain.
Matty Matheson
I've never there people doing stuff aren't really complaining about doing stuff. They're complaining about how hard it is. It's hard, but they're doing. If anybody's ever actually ran something, it's hard. This isn't easy, but you do it.
Podcast Host 1
What's hard?
Podcast Host 3
You can't.
Matty Matheson
Like, it is like a thing that's just like. I don't know like what is harder though?
Podcast Host 1
Opening a restaurant and keeping it open or bringing a TV show to life.
Matty Matheson
I honestly, I Think you could open a restaurant? Relatively easy.
Podcast Host 2
Really?
Matty Matheson
And. Well, yeah.
Podcast Host 2
And keep it open though.
Matty Matheson
I've opened. Well, keeping it open is hard. You ever get a meeting? How hard is it to get a meeting?
Podcast Host 1
Pretty.
Matty Matheson
Just get a show.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, no, wait, what's the answer? Is it difficult or is it easy?
Matty Matheson
No, no, I'm saying it's difficult.
Podcast Host 2
Okay. Okay, good.
Podcast Host 1
Like just to get in the room.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Well, how many shows are on tv? How many restaurants are there? How many, how many, how many things? Like, I'm just like, I've opened a restaurant for 100 grand. I've opened a restaurant for a couple million dollars. It's. It's like you can figure out how to do something also. Like making, getting something green lit then getting it like on air, even getting it greenlit doesn't mean it's going on air.
Podcast Host 2
True.
Matty Matheson
Like it's, it is very insane.
Podcast Host 1
There's a lot more gates to pass through.
Matty Matheson
It is with a show. Until it's on air, it ain't real.
Podcast Host 2
Right.
Matty Matheson
Until somebody's looking at it is not real at all. And so it, it's like Brunson, you know what's to celebrate? We ain't done.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
You know, jobs not finished. Yeah, job finished. It's like, be happy about jobs not finished. Like with tv, it's like we're opening a restaurant is you open a restaurant. Incredible experience. The creativeness, the hardships of opening a restaurant. Insane. Also insane. Very difficult. Not a lot of people can do it. Genuinely and very difficult. But then you open, you're like, oh, wait, I got a 10 year lease. I have a five year lease. I have a 15 year lease. Okay, cool, cool. Let's keep going.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And then now the hard part. But now it's monotonous. Even having fun, even winning, it is monotonous. It's doing something every single day job. It's being consistent. It is A J, O, B. Everybody together to do that job every day. Keeping the morale high, keeping it exciting. Where even TV shows, it's like, oh, it's two months and then I get to go to. Then I get to go to Italy for three weeks. Then I get to go do this other thing and then I get to go do this other thing and then I'm doing these other things and I'm just like, like getting something over the, the cross line. I. Getting a show made or a movie made, I think is way harder to do that than make a, a movie or make a restaurant. But I also like, you could do indie like that's the thing is like that, that is the thing that broke my brain with all of this stuff and why I started. Truly, why? I was just like, why don't all these rich people make movies? You know? Like, why?
Podcast Host 2
Why?
Matty Matheson
Like, I was just like, why don't you guys just pay for your. I was just like, oh, for 100 grand you could make, make a 30 minute short film that employs 40, 50 people. That's cool. Like, and so then I was just like, oh, like, you can shoot, you could shoot a movie for nothing on your iPhone. You can do, you can do a lot. You can make movies, you can make things not content. Like, you can make beautiful, artistic things.
Podcast Host 2
There's a difference for you.
Matty Matheson
But I think being on like television, there's very different worlds too.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, right.
Matty Matheson
But I think it is a. Like, like I just like, oh, wait. And then, and then I, I was just like, oh, I'll just like, I'll put money into this. Oh, I'll put money into that. I'll put. I believe in these people.
Podcast Host 1
And now why don't I start a company that does this?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Ad Host
Huh?
Matty Matheson
Well, yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Super athletic.
Matty Matheson
A super athletic company. But then that was the thing where I was just like, oh, I've dumped money into a lot of my things. I, you know, it's like Rosa Vergosa, my restaurants, like, all this. I've dumped all of my money into my projects.
Podcast Host 2
Are you a serial entrepreneur?
Matty Matheson
I. No, I'm, I'm a, I'm a cereal. I don't care and I'm gonna do it.
Podcast Host 1
You're investing in cereal?
Matty Matheson
Like I'm. I would.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Can't take it with you.
Matty Matheson
Might as well crunch. Let's go.
Podcast Host 2
Breakfast Crunch.
Matty Matheson
The goat Captain Grunt for me. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Goat cereal.
Matty Matheson
Goat cereal, dude. Goat milk. Just goat Captain Crunch. Captain Crunch, Goat milk. Yogurt. And most important meal today, Pumpkin seeds. Something like with the seeds on.
Podcast Host 2
Michelle.
Matty Matheson
It's just like. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
How many projects have you been, like filming film and tv. Have you been a part of that? Haven't seen the light of day. And then also now that you are an Emmy award winning producer and a part of like a very important show, are you now? Are those meetings easier to get and you're like getting closer to the finish line every time you try Meetings?
Matty Matheson
Yes, I can. Yeah. Meetings.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Don't walk around, bro. What's up? Just walk around la. What's up, dog?
Podcast Host 2
Every. Every interaction is a meeting.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Yeah. Nothing. Nobody cares. Nobody. Nobody cares about anything. It's all it is. You can make the art. The. The thing is, is, like, go make your art and try, like, just a dash. First thing I said when I met, like, Ted Sarandis, I came in here seven years ago. You could have had this way cheaper, you know? Like, I was just like, dog. And I was just like, what do you say that? He was just like, that's like. He. He was just laughing, right? You know, And I was just like, dude, like, I was here seven years ago, man.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And he was just like, yeah, well, you had to go figure it out. And I was just like, very father.
Podcast Host 1
You had to figure it out.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. He was just like, sure. We didn't know who you were.
Podcast Host 2
Right?
Matty Matheson
Go figure it out. Now you got some value. Now you got some. Now you got this doctor nut case over here.
Podcast Host 1
He's got some views on YouTube.
Matty Matheson
But it was like. But also, I learned how to make stuff.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Me and my friends went and made something. We built a little world. We had control. I still have control. I still own the ip, you know, like, it's just like a licensing deal thing, but it is like a thing where it's like, go do it.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Get. Get five friends. Go make something. And then that. But that's the thing is, like, I just want to use them, and I use that Mentelli with anything. Like, be like, oh, yeah, I'll figure that out. And that's it. Like, I'm just like, I want to figure things out. I want to do stuff. And I just keep doing that.
Ad Host
That.
Matty Matheson
Like, it isn't.
Podcast Host 1
With the right people.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, with the right people. Yeah. You need smart people. You. If you're the smartest person in the room, good luck.
Podcast Host 2
Get out of that room in the wrong room.
Matty Matheson
Or. Or just be the smartest person in the room. That's a nice job, too. But it's like, that's not. As a creative.
Podcast Host 1
By myself.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, I'm completely by myself.
Podcast Host 1
I got lost in the closet again.
Podcast Host 2
Smart.
Matty Matheson
I'm so smart. But it is like, yeah, Like, I. I love. I'm like, this is what I'm good at. This is what I. This is what I think. What do you think? What do you want to do? What can you do with that? Can you take that and turn that into something? Can you help yourself? What's your job as a person? Your job is this. Okay, My job, Like, what. What goes on? How do we do this? What do we do?
Podcast Host 1
What's the Just a dash dish that has been the biggest hit that people really try to replicate?
Matty Matheson
I don't know.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, come on. There's not a banger all time.
Matty Matheson
See, out of all. See, I look at everything just like the thing that people just in general of all of my cooking videos is. Is get you laid lasagna. The OGs.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I still think the. The.
Podcast Host 1
That's like season two.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
No, no, no. This is like my second video I ever made.
Podcast Host 1
Oh, okay.
Matty Matheson
This is literally like my. I. I still say, like, my first three, four videos are the ones that people genuinely come up and say the most things about. Well, the amount of being like, that lasagna got me laid. I'm married to that woman now. Or I married. I married that guy. I made that and that guy.
Podcast Host 2
And I married to Garfield.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
That lasagna got me herpes.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. I got hur. Like, I hope you before you ate that lasagna. After that lasagna. You ain't after that lasagna. If you eat that. If you eat the lasagna that you're making that I made, there's no.
Podcast Host 1
It's like a tuna melt.
Matty Matheson
It's like walking tuna.
Podcast Host 1
What are the other dishes that.
Matty Matheson
That's like, when you. You're like, I'm sorry. That's a. I'm sorry.
Podcast Host 2
Hand up. That's on me.
Matty Matheson
Hey, that's me. That's on me.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
What are the other get.
Matty Matheson
You didn't get there. No. You didn't get the middle. That's on me. That's on me. That's on me. I wish we got there together. I always do. I always get there. I always do.
Podcast Host 1
Can't hit food column mid set. Mid, mid smash.
Podcast Host 2
Nice, guys.
Podcast Host 1
What are the other dishes that people really come up and they're like, Maddie, like, this.
Podcast Host 2
This has been.
Podcast Host 1
Changed my life.
Matty Matheson
I don't even know. It's more about, like, the. They're like, that was so crazy. I think the, like, the Arby's episode on, like, just a dash is crazy. Like, the beef thing also, like, the. I make that, like, crazy. I don't see. I. I don't remember stuff.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
But I'm like the. Like the soup. I make a soup episode, like, where I make, like, this big crazy, like, consummate, and I ruin it. And it legitimately. It took me eight hours to, like, fix. And I'm just, like, so sad. Like, everyone's always coming, like, was that real? I'm like, everything's real. Because I'm like, we don't have switch outs. We don't have food. If I fuck something up, I have to recook it.
Podcast Host 1
You can only afford one grocery trip.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, well, no, we want it to be. We want the fear to be real.
Podcast Host 2
Right?
Matty Matheson
That's what makes real life. That's why just a dash is so good. Is like, everything's real. Like, cooking on the RV is real cooking, doing all the things that we did is real. So it's just like. I think people just come up and ask more questions about it and, like, as always, ask me more about, like, Michelle. They're like, yeah, Michelle. Than you. Like, really bad. I'm like, yeah, I've known Michelle for, like, 20 years. Like, yeah, she's my sister.
Podcast Host 2
Here's a loaded question. Is there a recipe or maybe something that you make at home that is so unhinged you would never, like, publicly disclose how it is produced or you would recommend it?
Matty Matheson
We're already talking about tuna melts, but I think, like, I love, like, a white cheddar Mac and cheese with, like, a can of tuna in it baked with some panko breadcrumbs on top of. Just, like, disgusting. And I eat half of it, and then I put, like, ketchup on a little bit of it. And I'm like, sometimes if I want it really rich, I'll put, like, confit, like, some diced onion and butter. Like, put that in there. But I'm like, I don't know most. I am. I'm a meat and potatoes guy. Also, like, with the farm, it's just like, we're just like, go grab some lettuce. Like, just salad and steaks. I'm boring. I'm bo. I'm more boring at home than anything. Like, but also, like, we can just do, like. Like. Like, I love just making, like, simple pastas and, like, just, like, eat. Like, I'm not sport eating.
Podcast Host 1
Right.
Matty Matheson
I'm definitely not making Instagrammable food.
Podcast Host 1
It's cooking at home for yourself.
Matty Matheson
That's like, me cooking at home. I'm like, that's not me. Like, not trying to perform for anything. My kids want chicken nuggets. They hate everything I make. My. My. They only want to eat beef tenderloin because it's. Everything else is gross. So then I'm just like, tenderloin. They only want. They call. They call it soft steak. They want soft steak.
Podcast Host 2
Steak.
Matty Matheson
I'm like, soft steak is expensive.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Soft spay. And I'm like, you only want soft steak? And they're like, we want daddy's soft steak.
Podcast Host 1
Daddy's on a licensing deal.
Podcast Host 2
Daddy's soft steak. Yo.
Matty Matheson
A couple more commercial stuff.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, a few more super bowl commercials.
Podcast Host 2
Yep.
Podcast Host 1
We are dropping this episode right around July 4th. What do you. When you're on the grill and you're hosting a big party, what do you like to do when you're on the grill? When you're on the sticks, you're in charge.
Matty Matheson
Never. I'd like to not ever be in control on the stick.
Podcast Host 1
Really?
Matty Matheson
You.
Podcast Host 1
You're like, I. This is my job.
Matty Matheson
But if I was I. Salin's hot dogs. Salin's hot dogs from Buffalo, which lend themselves. They're like known for being like, they're a char grilled dog.
Podcast Host 1
Okay.
Matty Matheson
Snappy, you know, like a snappy char girl dog Sailings is like my. Besides like Chicago dogs now that I'm like in love with Chicago dogs. But like, yeah, the. Yeah, like that I would always have that. I love like, like, like sliced like Miami ribs, you know, like Korean style fucking ribs. Thin short ribs.
Podcast Host 1
Steve, back to the dogs. How do you like to dress your dogs?
Matty Matheson
Personally, Personally. Mustard, onion, sports peppers. And now I've trans. But. But it depends on the dog too.
Podcast Host 2
Sure.
Matty Matheson
Sometimes I'll just like just a straight Chicago dog with everything on it. Even though I hate the relish and the tomato, I don't like, I don't like the relish in the tomato.
Podcast Host 1
The color of the relish is so off putting.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, tomatoes can kick rocks for sure.
Matty Matheson
Relish itself. Unless, like there's already a giant grape pickle on it. But also, like, when I eat Chicago dogs, I do only like onion mustard in like sports peppers.
Podcast Host 2
Is ketchup on a dog valid? Yay or nay?
Matty Matheson
I think it's. I have definitely whole life ketchup guy. Right.
Podcast Host 1
Put on your Mac and cheese and fish.
Podcast Host 2
Tuna.
Matty Matheson
Tuna, Mac, grill cheese with ketchup. You know, like, it's like we love. And as a Canadian, like, it is
Podcast Host 1
like, yeah, you got tomato, potato chips.
Matty Matheson
Ketchup chips are unreal. But it also is just like, like, you guys, I feel like we smother like our like bacon, eggs, home fries, breakfast. Like, as Canadians, I feel a lot of Canadians drench that. Like, because we're not hot sauce. We're like, we're weak. Where England has brown sauce. I feel like we legitimately like ketchup on breakfast is a huge thing. I like smash it and I love it. I'm just like, I don't give a but. Yeah. On regular dogs, like, if I'm at home, it's. It is like sometimes I'll do ketchup, but sometimes like, like, because Like, I don't. I can't get Viennas. So I'm like, when I eat it, it's like the whole thing. It's like when you. When you're in Philly, you want to eat a certain way. When you're in New York, you want to eat a certain way. So it is like a certain. Like, every hot dog is not the same. Every. Every dog is not the same. So it's just like, like with char, with the sailings. I love sailings. Like with. With mustard and ketchup and onion and hot peppers on it and a bunch of stuff, you know, delicious. Like, you know, our. Our dog's world in Toronto is like, you know, everyone's got this like, corn relish. And like, it is a very, like, corn relish. Like a Caribbean thing maybe, I think possibly. But it is like every, like every hot dog stand in Toronto has, like, this, like, corn relish.
Podcast Host 2
What is corn relish? Can you explain this to me? Like, it's just.
Matty Matheson
It's like, almost like a. It's got like red pepper in it. Like, it's like a red salad. Yeah, it's like a liquidy.
Podcast Host 2
Throw that on a hot dog.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Yeah, it's good.
Podcast Host 1
Do you. With Scandinavian style hot dogs?
Matty Matheson
Yeah, I love them.
Podcast Host 1
So good.
Matty Matheson
First thing I get, when I get. Whenever I get to Copenhagen is go straight to the thing with the. They're sweet brown. What's your mustard?
Podcast Host 1
Do you have a goat with the crispy.
Matty Matheson
With the crispy onions? I get raw onions and onions.
Podcast Host 1
What's the go. Do you have a hot dog spot? You go to your.
Matty Matheson
Anywhere, Just anywhere. Wherever they sell them, they're all fine. I'm like, I don't know. I'm like, I'm not. I am not go place guy. I don't like going places.
Podcast Host 1
What we're hearing is all dogs go to heaven.
Matty Matheson
All dogs go to heaven.
Podcast Host 2
All dogs matter.
Podcast Host 1
Are you still on your weight loss and health journey? Is that still going? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Podcast Host 2
You look good, brother.
Matty Matheson
Dude, here, I'll show you. I'll show you a photo. Because I found this photo the other day and I was just like, dang,
Podcast Host 2
like a bad dang.
Podcast Host 1
Like it before.
Matty Matheson
I was just like, dang. Big dog was big boy. Where's this photo? I sent it to somebody. Like, look at this photo.
Podcast Host 2
That's a big boy.
Podcast Host 1
Big boy.
Matty Matheson
That's like almost like 350.
Podcast Host 1
That's like a plump.
Podcast Host 2
You're half that. You're half that right now.
Matty Matheson
I'm like 265 right now.
Podcast Host 1
Now that is a. That's the dog that plumps when you grill them.
Matty Matheson
Oh, yeah, that, that's.
Podcast Host 2
That's a ballpark Frank.
Matty Matheson
Dude, I'm. I'm for clumped.
Podcast Host 2
How long ago is that?
Matty Matheson
That's like two years ago. Oh, so it is like. Yeah. Like I've lost like, like £80.
Podcast Host 2
Hell yeah.
Matty Matheson
So it's like over £80. It's just like. The thing is, if we want to get into it. Yeah. So, you know, be. I've been a big guy my whole life, but then I got really big when I got clean. Mean.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Because when I got. When I got sober, all of a sudden was the exact same time I started just like traveling the world non stop and like doing dead set on life. Traveling, flying, eating at three restaurants a day, eating at three restaurants a day, eating at, like, sport eating. And I just. My whole thing was this thing. I'd go. Also, I was still in like full, like chef mode. So I'd pull up at a restaurant and everyone sends you the whole menu.
Podcast Host 2
Right, Right.
Matty Matheson
Kill you. They try to kill you. They try to kill you.
Podcast Host 1
What's up with that?
Matty Matheson
That. It's just like big dick. Like, I think it is just like chefs come in and they're like, they want you to have the whole thing and they try to just like. I don't think it happens now so much, but like my generation, like, if you pulled up to a restaurant and you just, you. You're doing off menu from the kitchen.
Podcast Host 1
It's a steak. Yeah, it's a lobster.
Matty Matheson
It's a lobster. It's just like, whatever. But it's. But then I was just like.
Podcast Host 1
Were you also feeding for sugar? Because you were like, off the sauce.
Matty Matheson
I'm just like a. Yeah, I'm a chocolate boy. I'll like dummy a Snickers, you know, Mars bar, whatever. Like, I'm just like at the airport. Like all I eat at the airport.
Podcast Host 2
Nat.
Matty Matheson
Well, now I'm down. I'll just suck on those, like, bagged eggs and beef jerky.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So I'm just like water, beef jerky and eggs at airports now, but it is a macros. Like I don't eat anything on planes. I don't do anything like that.
Podcast Host 1
What's the one, what's the one snack you can't stop munching on? You can't give it up.
Matty Matheson
I feel like those like big, giant seedless grapes. Like those things. Yeah, I'm not a chip sky.
Podcast Host 2
Really?
Matty Matheson
No, I'm not like an all dressed. Oh, no, you don't eat chips. Like, I never eat chips.
Podcast Host 2
Never eat chips.
Matty Matheson
Never buy a bag of chips in my life.
Podcast Host 1
Good for you.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like, not a chips guy. Like, not people that sit in offices. And like, I honestly think also just being in a kitchen, like, you never eat chips.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, you're never eating stuff like that. So I think I always worked a job where you could like, like, nosh, you know, or whatever, but I was just like, never chip guy. Also, I think growing up, the way we, I grew up was like, we didn't have snacks.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Too. Which is funny because I'm like, grew up, like, super religious, no snacks and all this. I'm like, we're all just drug addicts. We're just like, I'm fat as. I'm just like, oh, gosh, you guys killed it if you do.
Podcast Host 2
Damn.
Matty Matheson
That's why I'm always like, with my kids. I'm like, I don't know. I was brought up where, like, I couldn't even watch, like, Simpsons. It was too crazy, you know? And I'm like, like, all of us are psychopaths.
Ad Host
You know?
Matty Matheson
Like, I'm like, mom, dad, maybe let some, like, we should have, should have let us watch some Simpsons.
Podcast Host 2
Simpsons were not the problem.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Trying to stab people and when they were 10 years old.
Podcast Host 1
Give us some sugar.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, but I think so.
Podcast Host 2
See not. What do you say seedless grapes is
Matty Matheson
your ghost Seedless grapes that you see? Like, like Instagram's on and it's like cancer. It's like there's like, cells inside of it. I just watched stuff. I, I, I'm just like, red pilled now. I'm just like, on the Instagram.
Podcast Host 1
D. You're a maha guy.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, for sure. I'm just like, what is all this? I was just like, tr. Did you see raspberries are gonna kill our children?
Podcast Host 1
Have you, have you tried, like, weird health? Like, whether like a trend or a fat or a product besides just like, diet and exercise? Like, is there something that you've gotten into yourself?
Podcast Host 2
Like, holistic trends?
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
No shoving crystals up here.
Podcast Host 1
No.
Matty Matheson
I had to learn. So I'm an insane person.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And so I had to Dr. I had to change my. So I treated it like, like, like AA and the na. Okay.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So I, I was just like. And because I travel all the time, I'm being told what to do all the time, you know, Like, I would get my itinerary every single day. And I'm like, this is what I'm doing. I don't have a lot of choices, really, to do in my day. And my shit's spread. I'm never anywhere long. I have no routine. It's crazy. So I was just like, I need to build something I need. So when I was done was after I got home from Orlando, we went to Disney World as a family. We came home, and I just spent a week eating, like, raising canes. And I was, you know, like, I was just like, I'm done. I'm done.
Podcast Host 1
It's like the last binge before you.
Ad Host
Rehab.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And. And I was just like, I'm done.
Podcast Host 2
One last bag. Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So I, I, I, I was just like, I need to. Every time I've tried to do something, I can get the trainer do the thing. Here's the program.
Podcast Host 2
Like, throwing money at the problem.
Matty Matheson
Kind of. Yes and no. Like, just like, like structure.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, okay, I need a trip. But then I'm like, on the road. I'm gonna. Okay, I'm gonna set my iPad. And then I was just like, oh. I'm like, I don't have an iPad. I don't have a laptop.
Podcast Host 1
My son broke it.
Matty Matheson
I don't have anything. Like, I'm like, I don't know. I barely have a phone, but it is a. So I was just like, I have to just eat better. So I stopped going to restaurants. I stopped eating, and I only ate chicken, steak, broccoli, and, like, eggs. And I did that for three months.
Podcast Host 1
I remember seeing, I think you. I just Seeing how many eggs you were eating, and I was like, damn, that's hot eggs.
Matty Matheson
But I couldn't even post how many eggs I was at because it was unhinged.
Podcast Host 2
The real amount.
Matty Matheson
Two years of every single morning, I'd eat four or five eggs. And how do you prep them different? Because I'm. I Now I'm like, I kind of. I'm.
Podcast Host 2
You're egged out.
Matty Matheson
I. I. Boilers was my whole thing forever.
Podcast Host 1
That's what it was.
Matty Matheson
Like, I just. One punch them. Just like, Like a duck.
Podcast Host 2
Suck them down.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, just like. No, like salt, pepper.
Podcast Host 2
Right, Right.
Matty Matheson
Boom, boom, boom, boom. Like, I did that for a long time. Then I started doing, like, just like, fried eggs. And then I was like, Then I'm, like, eating butter and doing all this other stuff, and I was like, ah. And I was like, I don't give a. And then. But that's the thing, the indifference, saying, I don't give a.
Podcast Host 2
Right.
Matty Matheson
So. But then whatever. And then also, I do, like, I'd only eat, like, One cup of rice, one cup of ground beef.
Podcast Host 2
And like, like measuring stuff out.
Matty Matheson
Yes and no. Like, I would just, like, use my hand. I'd just be like, boom, boom, boom. Like, scoops. I can use spoons. I can be an adult. Adult.
Podcast Host 2
You didn't. Like, what, you didn't have a scale
Matty Matheson
and wait, no scale. I've never done scale. I've never done 15 macros. No.
Podcast Host 1
Eating disorder.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like, no, but that's the thing too, is I never want to get mad at it. Because if I get mad at it, then indifference and then indifference turns into it and it turns into being a psycho.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So I was just like, I don't want to do that. And so then, so I ate clean for three months. Anywhere I try, I just go to a steakhouse, Right. Anytime I'd google a steakhouse, don't give a what it is.
Podcast Host 2
What sides are we doing at the steakhouse?
Matty Matheson
Nothing. I'd get steamed broccoli and steak.
Ad Host
Steak.
Matty Matheson
I would get a tenderloin and steak. Tenderloin and steak. Goodbye. Yeah, soft steaks. I'm a soft steak boy. You know, soft steaks and that.
Podcast Host 2
Three months. Like, you saw the pride and you're like, this changed my life.
Matty Matheson
I. I just felt better. I didn't feel my skin changed. Like, I was sleep better. Yeah, my skin's better. Sleeping better. Trisha's like, you're not really snoring. You know some things. Yeah. Then I introduced walking. I bought a treadmill. I'm gonna now I got three months. I'm just eating regular. This is how I eat now. I don't go to restaurants. I don't do this. I don't sport eat. I don't like. I had to treat it like alcohol. I'm like, I don't go to bars. I don't hang out with anybody. I needed to, like, I needed to, like, set myself up for. Say I'm the only person that's going to take care of me. I. I like, turned the blinders on. It was like, I'm only doing this. Then I started walking. And so I'd do 10, 000 steps in the morning. So I just do 10. I'd wake up, drink some water, you know, and I. I like the water. Little Himalayan salt and some lemon. Lemon. I'll do that. And then, so do, do that. Then walk for, you know, an hour. Put on, you know, Seinfeld or like, Simpsons.
Podcast Host 2
Catch up on the Sims.
Matty Matheson
Catch up on the Simpsons.
Podcast Host 1
Only seasons one through two.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. V. Put on, put on something Funny. I know. Just put on something like, funny Arrested Development.
Podcast Host 1
But then you're like, wait, this actually isn't as ridiculous as, like, right. Reality now.
Matty Matheson
No.
Podcast Host 2
No context changed. Yeah. It's real.
Matty Matheson
Not even as great.
Podcast Host 2
It's a great documentary flight.
Matty Matheson
It is not. It is not escapism. Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
So we got the 10k. 10k steps off. RIP.
Matty Matheson
Boom. Off rip. And then. And then just live my life. I was just trying to live my life. So then I don't get mad and hate it.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Then I was like, oh, I'm going to start working out. So then I started working out. So then I'm like, oh, 10,000 steps working out. And then I was just like, I'm just going to do kettle bell swing things. Do as many as I can for 30 minutes. And then I was just like, oh, I'm gonna. I want to, like, lift weights. I. I was like, I'm relatively strong. I'm not like some, like. I'm not like, soft fat.
Podcast Host 2
Right.
Matty Matheson
You know, like, I've been working my hard fat. Yeah.
Podcast Host 3
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And so.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, you like that?
Matty Matheson
Yeah. No, for sure. I'm hard.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And you could probably push.
Podcast Host 2
You could push. Oh, yeah. Look at this guy.
Matty Matheson
I. I'm specimen.
Podcast Host 2
Super athletic.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. I'm super athletic. Everything comes around full circle.
Podcast Host 1
The.
Matty Matheson
And then. And then now I just like, now I can work out wherever I go. It's just like, you know, Nine Orchard. Also Nine Orchard. Get a gym, buddy. The gym. The gym's this.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
This table's the gym there.
Podcast Host 2
Welcome to New York.
Matty Matheson
Like a little machine and a little thing, and like, you walk in there with one person, it's just breathing. And I don't work out with music. I can't. I hate working out with music. So I'm just like. I'm listening to the other guy breathe, and he's got. They got the earbuds in, and I don't have earbuds because I hate having earbuds in my ears for some reason. And so I'm like, I don't really listen to music that way. And so I was just like, I'm working out, but it's just like. But now I know how to work out. I can. I can do a split. I can. I can understand. I'm doing chest and arms. I'm doing this, I'm doing that. I'm doing zercher squats.
Podcast Host 1
Has the diet reverted back to where now you. Where you are, like, eating. Rest. Eating out.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Yeah. Now, like, I had to turn them on the chicken Soup. I'm like, I'm not stressed about it because I'm doing something also. Like, I'm not. I'm not trying to get ripped. I'm just trying to be healthy. Sure thing, huh?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah. Lead that to Grizz.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, dude, Grizz is. You want to see Grizz?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Showing people.
Podcast Host 2
Let's see this buff. Bro.
Matty Matheson
Bro. Dude, Grizz is all time. His ig is crazy.
Podcast Host 1
Does he send you workout tips?
Matty Matheson
People calling me n. He's just. He's. He's stoked.
Podcast Host 1
He's just chilling.
Podcast Host 2
He's on his own journey, bro.
Podcast Host 1
He.
Matty Matheson
He's a he,
Ad Host
bro.
Matty Matheson
This is gross right here, dog. So he. He collects like, Jones junk.
Podcast Host 2
Okay.
Matty Matheson
He like, oh, oh.
Podcast Host 2
And he just is pressing junk. Wow. That is a. That's a grizzly bear. Holy.
Podcast Host 1
He just threw a large lawn appliance into the a truck over he shoulder.
Matty Matheson
So his Instagram is just him.
Podcast Host 2
Chris, don't play lifting Grizz. Oh, dude, Grizz is buff.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. So he's. He's like the 4:00am he's like the 4:00 a'm. Guy. Yeah, yeah, that's my little brother, Monster. Monster. I love him.
Podcast Host 1
But he.
Matty Matheson
He's just like, once again, like, that's the thing. I always, like, I come from a super regular family in, like, small town Canada, where I'm like, my brother collects junk or like, he's getting like. Like my dad. I saw my dad the other day. He's like, yo, Grizz moved 12, 000 pounds of steel by himself. By hand. No, nothing in one day.
Podcast Host 2
What?
Matty Matheson
He removed 12, 000 pounds. Picked it up, put it in the trailer, did triple chips, brought it to the scrapyard, got his money, and he. She's like, he did 12, 000 pounds in one day.
Podcast Host 2
He's an entrepreneur, dude. That's crazy. That's a lot of steel, dude.
Matty Matheson
He moved 12, 000 pounds of stealing.
Podcast Host 2
Jack's doing it too, dude.
Matty Matheson
But that's his thing. Like, he's like, that's the thing is like, my bros. And then my other brother's just like, construction guy, too.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, so it's just like, you know, they're. They're strong. Also, like, my brothers always had, like, they always abs and dicks. I'm like, I got belly. And I was like, where'd my dick go, dad? Where'd it go? Steve got all dick. You got all the dick. Steve's got all dick.
Podcast Host 1
There's a. There's a quote. There's a dick quota. In the family, dude.
Matty Matheson
Steve got all of it. My older brother. Just like it's the size of this wall.
Podcast Host 1
It skips. It skips.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I have no idea. I'm like, what is that?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah. Than the gym at night.
Matty Matheson
Orchard. Dude, I'm at the gym in nine hours with no dick.
Podcast Host 2
Dickless man's out here. Dickless with no music.
Matty Matheson
No. No music hating.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Hey. Not happy. Just want to be home with my.
Podcast Host 2
Well, you look good and you should.
Podcast Host 1
No dinky also.
Podcast Host 2
Wow. What a journey. Dude. Congrats to you, man. That's awesome.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, but it's great because now you can just. I feel great. Like, and. And it's amazing. Like, it's just like I built a gym. I built like a garage on our farm. Built like a whole gym in it. And like, it's amazing because it's like my sister's working out there, her kids are working out there. Trish is working out. Trish is getting like yoked.
Podcast Host 1
It's gonna work out at Maddie.
Podcast Host 2
I want to pull up, dude.
Podcast Host 1
Let me do some pull ups, dude.
Matty Matheson
Every. We got everything. I got hack squat machines I got and stuff. Like, it's. It's a sick ass.
Podcast Host 1
Cables with jaw dude.
Matty Matheson
Cables, dude. Jaw life.
Podcast Host 2
Cables with jaw D. That's my make a wish bro. Bicep day with jaw dude.
Matty Matheson
He's bicep doubt. Everyone's like, yeah, he can do like 100 pull ups. Like he is. He's like, when we do the workouts, he legitimately. He's doing his workout in between our workouts. So he does like. He's like, yeah, like, he's like 100 pull ups. 100 push ups, 100 air squats like every day, no matter what.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, that's his. That's the. That's the protocol.
Matty Matheson
That's his thing. And then he's like an avid runner and stuff. But it is like. So we'll just. He. He's just doing my workout to be buddies.
Podcast Host 1
Right?
Matty Matheson
Right. He's just doing the thing I'm doing. And then like, it's so funny.
Podcast Host 2
He'll be like.
Matty Matheson
Cuz I have to tell him. What? Because he doesn't know how to. He does that. He does like body weight stuff.
Podcast Host 2
Calisthenics.
Podcast Host 1
His abs.
Matty Matheson
Got abs, dude, he's sick. I remember before. I'll talk about it. I don't care. So before the. The first Calvin Klein ad. Yeah, I think maybe it was the second one. I forget it was before one of the Calvin ads with him. We're all just like, me and Ricky are always like talking about stupid to do. We're like, dude, we're doing a juice cleanse, dude. And like, I was instantly. He was like, I' like, we do this thing and we're like, we get. So me and Ricky just turn in. It's like, like, like an always sunny episode. Like, you know, like we're just like, like day one, dumbest plan just getting crazy. And we're just like, just pieces of. We're like melting down. Charles. Like, this is so great. Like, oh, yeah, dude. He's got like. You know, we ordered. We ordered the juices. You got like 12 different juices. And we're like, time for the elixir. Like, Ricky's got the stopwatch. We try to get Eben on it. Evan's just like, out of here. Evan's like the best. He's the most G. Dude, whatever. He's like, what the. And he's like, I'll do it. And then like, it was so funny. But he. But at the end he's like, oh, dude. And we're all like, what are you doing this way? And we're like. He's like, oh, I gotta go. Like shoot this thing. And we're like, ah.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, Calvin Klein. Oh, the Cal Klein.
Podcast Host 1
So you guys are the reason why
Matty Matheson
he looks so good in that Dude, I'm his trainer. Yeah, I'll take 100 credit for Jeremy Allen Body.
Podcast Host 2
Body by Matheson.
Matty Matheson
Body by Matheson. That's my new thing.
Podcast Host 1
Did jaw stuff?
Matty Matheson
No, he's got hog. He's hogged up.
Podcast Host 1
Come on.
Matty Matheson
That guy's hogged up. What you think? No, no, because Bieber.
Podcast Host 2
Cuz Bieber got some post production, apparently. Oh, that's the room.
Podcast Host 1
I don't know.
Matty Matheson
Jaws dialed.
Podcast Host 1
We've had a stylist on here that's like, they great. They all. They all have to stuff.
Podcast Host 2
Not jaw.
Matty Matheson
I don't. I don't know.
Podcast Host 1
Except for Joe.
Matty Matheson
I honestly don't know. But I know that he. He's great.
Podcast Host 2
Jaws all balls.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, he. He's no, he. He's all big dinky. Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Shout out to him.
Matty Matheson
Must be. Hey.
Podcast Host 2
Hey. Must be nice.
Matty Matheson
Those eyes. Talent.
Podcast Host 1
Jesus.
Matty Matheson
He works so hard. Yeah, his dick's abbed up.
Podcast Host 1
Well, now that you're back at restaurants.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Going to restaurants and stuff. And enjoying the splendors of the. Of the food world. When you're in New York City, I know you're not. You said you're not a place guy. Go to place guy. Are there any foods specific to New York or places that you have to go to that you need to go to when you're here.
Matty Matheson
I crave. Yeah. It's like, I think, like, I crave, like, Bartolo. Ryan's food, I think is like, even Ernesto doesn't. I don't think gets the love it should, but it's like, it's. I love Ryan's food.
Podcast Host 1
Bartolo's fire.
Matty Matheson
I love Maxine. Like, Zimmy's is like, yeah, unreal right now. Like, I see he's just pulling out that, like, light early summer veg far say, and I'm just like, it's just incredible to see chefs cooking real food and doing things not for Instagram and cooking things that's, like, truly to themselves. Like, that's what they're doing, I think is a beautiful thing.
Podcast Host 1
Are you, like. Are you a slice guy?
Matty Matheson
O, yeah. No, no, I'm not, like, a slice snob. Like, I'm like, oh, that's a good slice, you know?
Podcast Host 2
Well, you're in a pizza place.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, yeah, Maker, but we're not. We. We slices now, but it's, like, all pizza. Yeah. Like, it's just like, I love. But our pizza is not New York style. It's not any. Like, Yeah, Maker's good, but. Yeah, no, I think it's like, last night, I was at Scars.
Podcast Host 1
Oh.
Matty Matheson
And, like, shout to Scars, you know, same thing. Like, I like people. Like, it's just like, scar's my homie. The franks are my fnf. I love. Like, I do believe, like, the Partania pizza at FNF is one of the greatest pizzas in the world. It is like, that is something that, like, I go and I eat that, and I'm like, this is something special.
Podcast Host 1
But when you're here, you want to go to the spots that your friends are owning and operating people.
Matty Matheson
Like, oh, yeah, yeah. Like, I, like, I'm a loyal guy, so I'm like, I'll feel bad if I go somewhere else or try something new, you know?
Podcast Host 2
You're cheating on the homies.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. I want to see my buddies, and I don't want to get, like, it's about the people.
Podcast Host 2
No.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
No. I don't know, man. Like, I. I'm like, I'm not trying to go. Like, I don't know. I really. I'm. I'm like, I've been here, what, two days, three days? I legitimately have only eaten at the corner.
Podcast Host 3
Corner bar.
Podcast Host 1
Corner bar?
Matty Matheson
Yeah. At Nine Orchard. Because I'm just like, oh, I gotta go do something. So I'm just like chilling like I, I'm not trying to go like if there's a line. I'm definitely not.
Podcast Host 1
What do you, what do you think of like, have you seen any lines in New York of, of people waiting for some viral food item? Like, what do you think about. What do you think about people that do it online for like the Instagrammable moment in, in the food world?
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Good luck. I don't, I, I don't know, man. I'm like so burnt on that stuff.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I'm like, I really don't know. I think it's, it's like it's live action death scrolling like, you know, like I really, I don't, I don't. I think it's good like anyone putting something into him and they can create a line.
Ad Host
Cool.
Matty Matheson
When that line end, what is it?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And then everyone hates on like it is such a double edged sword. I've had lines.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I'm. I'm double sorted. I'm double edged up. Like my whole thing is that like I'm like, you're, you're damned if you do you damage.
Podcast Host 3
You don't.
Matty Matheson
You want the line? You get the line. The line's gone. Who gives a. It is a thing. It's just like, I'd rather just like a slow burn and just like does
Podcast Host 1
the line can you up where you're like, oh, we gotta order and prepare.
Matty Matheson
People are gonna try to come. If you can't get in three times that person says you right?
Podcast Host 2
They hate you.
Matty Matheson
They hate you. The place is trash. And then they just say the place is trash. They don't say it's good. They don't know if it's good. Right? They say it's trash.
Podcast Host 2
They don't even care because they can't get it.
Matty Matheson
So I can't get it. And it's trash. That's the thing. And it's just like. And that's kind of crazy to too. And I don't think that's nice, but it is, whatever.
Podcast Host 1
Is there a way to combat lines? You don't want to be a place that has lines.
Podcast Host 2
What do you do?
Matty Matheson
Don't post about it. Don't do it. I don't know. I don't know. Don't feed the beast at all. I don't know. Like it is like a thing where I'm like, I tried to like I opened a restaurant and I legitimately, I was just like, let's just only put up black and white photos, no captions Nothing.
Podcast Host 1
What restaurant?
Matty Matheson
That restaurant closed.
Podcast Host 2
You tried?
Matty Matheson
I tried. I tried. I tried to just be like, can we just go back? Back? No reels, no nothing. Just. Can we just have a moment where something can just be and have a neighborhood spot? And it's just like, yeah, you got
Podcast Host 1
to pay the tick tockers.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
No, well, I'm not about that either.
Podcast Host 1
No, not. Not you, I'm saying.
Matty Matheson
But. But I think. Yeah. I don't know. I think that's a. That's the saddest thing ever. I think it. It is a. I don't know, but I'm very aware of, like, my genuine, like, I have been, like, truly, like, my privilege of being, like, I've been on a wave since I was 26 in the restaurant world, and now I've reached a point with, like, the bear and things where people now are being like, we're good on, like, you know, and that's okay, too, because I'm like, I believe in my restaurants. I believe in the consistency. I believe in the staff. I believe in everything that we've built. And so it is one of those things where I'm like, I'm. Now. I think I've moved past the hype, hype, hype. Shit.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And it's just, like. It's. It's almost, like, freeing. And it's. It is that thing where I'm like, I just want to be a regular restaurant. I just want my burger shop to be there. I don't really want to open up 20 of them.
Podcast Host 2
Right.
Matty Matheson
People think I have this, like, everyone's just like, oh, Maddie Madison has this like. Like, there was all this stuff about, like, empire, and I was just like, I don't want empire.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Why are you saying empire? I have four restaurants and, like, six pizzerias. That pizzerias is a completely separate thing kind of thing. Yeah. And I'm just. Just like. I got a couple restaurants. I know a bunch of people over here that are amazing chefs that are doing the same thing as I am. You don't have to call my an empire. I don't want an empire. And I. I remember I told this dude on, like, Live T. I was like, it ain't an empire if I. If an empire. If I had an empire, I'd get a paycheck from the business, maybe.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
If I had an empire, be signs.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
I wouldn't be on live tv. I'd be chilling.
Matty Matheson
I'd have a backer.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
I'd have jeans with no holes in Them.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Shirts with sleeves.
Matty Matheson
I'd shower more, you know, Like, I'm like, I don'. I don't know, man.
Podcast Host 1
Did you low key do Prime Seafood palace out of. I don't know if spite's right word. But it's like, to like. Yo, look, I. I can do something more, you know, not fine dining, but, like, more elevated than just like, burgers and pizza and.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, but.
Podcast Host 3
But that.
Matty Matheson
So 100%. But prime seafood palace was. Because that was supposed to be my only restaurant. It just took so long to open and a pandemic happened and I had to.
Podcast Host 1
A lot of wood.
Podcast Host 2
A lot of wood in there.
Matty Matheson
You know, the plan. Demic. The reset. The Great reset.
Podcast Host 1
The bandemic.
Podcast Host 2
The.
Matty Matheson
And I didn't. Yeah. And so, like, I started just. I got to a place where I had to, like, serve food. I had to make food in parking lots. I had to do stuff because I didn't have a job.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And so, like, I was like. Like, as we were building Prime Seafood palace took almost six years to build.
Podcast Host 1
Jesus Christ.
Matty Matheson
And so it's like.
Podcast Host 1
But still easier than a TV show.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. I wouldn't be able to start.
Podcast Host 1
Right.
Matty Matheson
Like, that's the thing is, like, to get a tv. Like, honestly, some. Yeah. People have been working on stuff for years on everything. Like, it is the. From the first meeting and the first ideation to opening. Yeah. People wait years for stuff.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
But I think privacy for palace was. I was. I left all my restaurants when I was like, 31. Right. I left parts and labor and every P L burger, P and L catering, all my. I was like, I'm out. And then I went and. And did, like, dead set on life and did it's supper time and. And did just a dash and, like, went and did all that.
Podcast Host 2
Had your arcs for sure.
Matty Matheson
And I want it. Seven years of, like, not having a restaurant and I was traveling the world and I was just like, what. What am I doing?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I don't have. Also I'm traveling the world. Everyone I. Walking around. Everyone's. Chef, what's going on? Chef going on. And it kind of eats at you. And I was like, I feel like a poser. I actually feel like a poser. And I was just like, oh, I'm. I need. I need. I want something now.
Podcast Host 2
Get back on the st. Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And so, like, Prime Seafood palace was going to be like, my one fun. This is my. Right. You come to Toronto, right? You want to go to Matty Matheson restaurant? Here's my. This is mine.
Podcast Host 2
You're gonna be in the kitchen. Like, you're gonna be there.
Matty Matheson
No, it was never that, because I. I still never want. I don't want to be a chef.
Podcast Host 2
Okay.
Matty Matheson
I don't want to be a chef.
Podcast Host 1
But if people are calling you chef, you need something to stand still.
Matty Matheson
Like, my cooks don't have to call me chef. They can call me Maddie. Like, I don't care. It's like, doctor. Yeah, Doc. Doctor.
Podcast Host 2
We.
Podcast Host 1
Doctor.
Matty Matheson
Doctor.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, we. We.
Matty Matheson
Doctor, Bro. No, but it's like, PSP is still like, that's. It is. Like, I was there recently, and I was like, it's my favorite restaurant.
Podcast Host 2
No, that's what else.
Matty Matheson
It's like. That's the thing. It's like. It's this beautiful thing where I'm like, it is. But it's all, like, different things where I'm like, this is my favorite restaurant. If I was to go, you know, like, if I go to the grill or you go. You know, you go. You got some money. Because, like, the thing, too, is, like, day one, Prime Seafood palace was supposed to be the no compromise, right Restaurant. I wanted to put money in farmers, put money in fisher folk, put money in vegetable farmers, put ranchers, put money into things and, like, be like, no, my butter is going to cost 10 bucks a pound. You know, I want this restaurant. I'm like, if you just buy good ingredients and only buy good ingredients, you only got good ingredients. That's true. And the job is not easier, but it's like, it's way more focused. There's way more respect. Genuinely. There's no corners. There's no nothing.
Ad Host
And.
Podcast Host 2
And taking some guesswork out of it, too, because the.
Podcast Host 3
The.
Podcast Host 2
The foundation is there.
Matty Matheson
It's just like, dude, you eat that butter, and you're like, what is worth 10 bucks?
Podcast Host 1
$10 pound? But what's. What's your order at PSP? Ooh, steak and steam. Broccoli.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, no, we got this, like, wagyu. Like, Australian wagyu. Not like a five, but, like, just this good beef. That's, like, crazy right now. That steak is, like, some of the best beef I've ever had in my life. Life. And then I'll just get, like, our crudo. Our crudo is like a complete, like, ode to the Sicilian at Swan Oyster, you know? But it's very. It looks very different than that, but it is same kind of flavor profile. I love our crudo. The fish is incredible. I'll get. We have, like, these, like, uni toast things that we do that are Fire. I love those usually. Well, it's just like, I'll get all the seafood stuff, and then I'll get just, like, a steak and some vegetables. But, like, right now it's like we're getting to the point where, like, very quickly, like, we'll have, like, all of our vegetables will come from the farm. And just like, tomato season is crazy.
Podcast Host 2
The best.
Matty Matheson
The best season. The best. Like, having that, like, I'm like, I got like a poly tunnel that's completely filled with just sun golds. And like, you walk out there in the morning and you just grab a handful of sungolds, and they taste like persimmon mangoes and like, heaven on earth. It is crazy. Like, it is a thing where I'm just like. Just handfuls of sun golds in the morning, and you're like, you know, the
Podcast Host 1
best part of tomatoes season is BLT. It's BLT.
Matty Matheson
I only eat BLTs and just a toasted. Just a good toasted tomato sandwich without the bacon and lettuce. Just this, like, a hearty, like, I love, like a hearty grain. Like a. Like a 21 grain shitty bread, too. Like, not good.
Podcast Host 2
Some Dave's killer bread straight up.
Matty Matheson
I didn't want to say it, but
Podcast Host 1
like, Maddie's killer bread. Like a tomato steak.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, but like that toast. Toast, which is like, hella mayonnaise, salt and pepper and tomatoes that over. You just eat that over the sink?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, over.
Matty Matheson
No cleanup that mayonnaise, tomato vinegar juice just drip into the sink. Little spritz, wipe off. See you later. Like, I would take a tote, like, just a toasted tomato over a blt. But BLT season should only be like. But also, like, I do have a love for just, like, an iceberg and shitty tomato. Blt, too.
Podcast Host 2
Diner blt. Come on, man. White bread.
Matty Matheson
Incredible. I had a tuna today. I love it.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, I love it when you. I mean, you're here for Tribeca, right?
Matty Matheson
Here for Tribeca.
Podcast Host 1
You were here for Tribeca.
Matty Matheson
I was here for Tribeca. And then here for you guys.
Podcast Host 1
Another MADD art that we've all fallen in love with is you've entered and. And are still thriving in your suit era.
Matty Matheson
Suit era?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah. Style Guy, have you become.
Podcast Host 1
Have you become a suit guy even when it's not award season?
Matty Matheson
No. No, because I'm like, I'm burnt on.
Podcast Host 2
I'm.
Matty Matheson
Dude, I such a hater on everything, so I'm just, like. I was, like, so excited about it that I'm like, I get it. And I Love it. And I feel good in it. And it's incredible. Like, Harry Rosen has been incredible. They make all my suits, and they are incredible. I wear all Harry Rosen on the show. It's like, those guys are the best. The Rosen still family owned. It's amazing, and I feel so good. But, like, I wear suits, like, now it's for those things. And then just wearing a suit every day, like on the Bear for the last, like two seasons, I'm kind of like putting a suit on every day and going to work and. Which I had to do. Sure. I. I love.
Podcast Host 1
I've become my father. Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, it is like, but I do, like, love it. And also, like, I, like, I had to get rid of all of my suits, and now I'm like, why?
Podcast Host 1
Because you.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, yeah. They were all made to match, like, 20 inches. Well, how many. How many suits are in your rotation at any given point?
Matty Matheson
Like, for out here, I bought like six. Oh, nice. Yeah, so I probably got like 10, 15 garment bag, which. Which I just shuffle them up.
Podcast Host 1
Dude, which suit is your favorite?
Matty Matheson
Like a. Just a. I'm the worst, you guys.
Podcast Host 2
I'm like, it's a double breasted for show.
Matty Matheson
It's not a double breasted.
Podcast Host 3
Oh, it's not.
Matty Matheson
It's not. But now since I've lost, like, I can wear. I could never wear double breasted before because I looked like a. Like a ship, you know? Like, it was just not for me.
Podcast Host 2
Kingpin from Spider Man.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, it was a lot. It was a lot of fabric. They were expensive, too. I feel like Harry Rose is like, let's just make you. You know, they're like, double breast baby isn't for you. Right.
Podcast Host 2
Know.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, a lot of fat. It's like a couch, you know, but it is. Yeah. A double breast is. I wore a double breast yesterday to.
Podcast Host 2
You looked great.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, I wore. Or no, I wore a double breast
Podcast Host 2
to Toy Story, you know?
Matty Matheson
Yes, to Toy Story. Yeah. I wore a double breast to Toy Story. I didn't get any photos. I didn't see any of me, like, when it was buttoned up. But I was just like, it feels good. Like, it feels. You know, you're in your little sunken place feeling good. But it's. But also, like, because I'm so, like, it is. I love. I do love shoes. So it is like, like as soon as I got here, like, and I love, like, bod shoes. So it is like, go there. I went there like, two days ago and I was just like, I got these, like, the weird, like, Elf. They're like green velvet with the elf. The.
Podcast Host 2
You love like an opera pump too.
Podcast Host 1
Like, I love.
Matty Matheson
I'm aware. I love that because I think it is like that thing where I'm just like. You see the. Like. I don't understand. Like, you see like really big people with just. But stuff. Yeah. They're just butt stuffed up. Yeah. And I'm just. I'm always just like, be better. You can be better. Well, I'm like, it's easy for you guys. You could put on. You're off the rack. And I'm just like. I don't understand off the rack that are like walk around ugly. You know, you have. No.
Podcast Host 1
Big boys can wear nice stuff too.
Matty Matheson
Big boys can wear nice stuff and tailored stuff too. But it is also like since in the like, I've kind of switched. Like I'm doing like break now where I never had the confidence to do. Sure. Like. Like let my pant hang. Like, I've always been like a floater boy, just like floating around. And I think that was more proportion stuff. So as my proportions have changed, my ratios have changed. I'm just Ratio guy.
Podcast Host 1
Know thy body.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Like golden ratio this guy.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. I'm just like. I'm just ratioed up and it's just like.
Podcast Host 2
Do you think. Do you think about like being an inspiration for like bigger guys that want to get tailored looks off, get fits off? Like, because you. You're that guy dude. You really are. And I wonder if you even think about that.
Matty Matheson
I don't, but I do. I'm happy that I like being a big. I didn't. I always looked at like, wrestlers or in movies where I was just like, oh, like over the top. See that fat guy in the background? That guy looks tight. Like, you know, like, it is like one of those things where, like, I look to like that kind of stuff. Like, I didn't have, you know, Chris Farley didn't dress good, you know, but
Podcast Host 2
he's got a couple good out.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, okay, calm down. But it is like a thing that like. Yeah, there isn't. And I'm like, also like, no sh. Also like now that I've gotten like, you know, tick tock in the last couple years have like blown up over me, which is like a very interesting thing that like now it's like a thing and I'm like that feel. It was interesting when it started. I don't have tick tock or like, I'm. I. I like Matty Matheson has tick tock. But I'm Like, I never.
Podcast Host 2
The entity, the brand.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, I've never had on my phone or anything, so I don't know what that.
Podcast Host 2
Right.
Matty Matheson
I don't even know what that is, but it is. It is sweet. And I'm just like, like, cool. But it is like a thing where I'm like, oh. I was just like, oh, dang. There's just like full people making, like, full tick tock, like, things about me.
Podcast Host 2
Fan cams.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Fan. Yeah. And so, so, so, like, then I was just like, oh, crazy. And then. But I. But before, I'd always be like, why am I not. Like, I was just like, why is nobody. I was just like, I. I'm the best dressed 300 pounder in the world. Like, I would say that, like, in interviews. And like, I was like, why doesn't GQ with me? Why doesn't anybody ever give me. But now everyone fucks with with me and I'm just like, oh. I just had to be on the. I was like a YouTuber, you know? Like, I was just like, oh, oh. And I was just like, oh. I, I. Because I was in my mind, I was just like, I'm successful in my mind where I'm like, oh. I'm like, I have all this thing and I'm like, whatever. And I'm like, I'm doing this myself and I'm over here in my lane and I'm like, okay. But now I'm like, once again, like, because of the bear, it's like, oh, now I get some shine. And it's great. It's amazing.
Podcast Host 2
And you're on red carpets now, so
Matty Matheson
there's, like, opportunity and also like, yo, red carpet. Still no stylist. Still no stylist. No stylist.
Podcast Host 2
We've told you this before, but, like, on our award show that the people, like, you know, the fitties that people vote on, you have. You were either. I think we put you on maybe starting three years ago. You won one year. I think we texted you like, two years ago. You're up there, dude.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Like, that has nothing to do with, like, that's against everyone.
Podcast Host 1
Asap. Rocky, the creator, Pedro Pascal.
Podcast Host 2
Beating your boy jaw, J. Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Jaw is just white tea and pants and white. Cortez's like, calm down. Got some stuff.
Podcast Host 2
People think if they get the white te, they'll get the biceps, which is. That's not how.
Matty Matheson
He has beautiful arms. He's got a beautiful body.
Podcast Host 1
That boy Jo's got some drip.
Podcast Host 2
He does.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, he does. No, he's great.
Podcast Host 2
We Got some casual drip.
Matty Matheson
He straight up too. I'm just talking on J. But he, he, he said he was going to give me a LV bag and he didn't.
Podcast Host 1
Oh, damn. What the. Is speedy.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. I don't even know. I was just like, what? Give me something. You literally have a budget. You could walk in any lv.
Podcast Host 2
You should go to.
Podcast Host 1
You should go to Canal street after this and pick up a fake one and be like, yo. And text. Don't worry, J, I'm good. I'm good.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, thanks for nothing, bro.
Matty Matheson
J, you gotta come on, let's go.
Podcast Host 1
Jaw. We're gonna email you.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, yeah, we literally can just email.
Matty Matheson
I don't think he looks at his email.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, probably not.
Podcast Host 1
Are you speaking of award season, red carpets? Are you pumped or. Yeah. Are you excited to see the Bourdain flick coming in?
Matty Matheson
Johnson, like, shout out to Matt Johnson.
Podcast Host 2
I think he Canadian genius fellow.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, I think what he's doing with Nirvana, the band, the show is incredible. Incredible. I think he himself is a really nice guy and like, very inspiring as a Canadian. Yeah. I don't know if I'll say. See, I, I'm also not. I. I've never seen Bourdain, really. I've seen two episodes in real life. I've read most of his books and like his fiction, non fiction. Like, I love. I loved his writing and like the first week of culinary school, like 2001:1, you know, right when the towers fell. When the towers fell. First week of college. Yeah, first week of college. And I remember I got like St. John's nose, the tail, and I got like Kitchen Confidential. Those were the two books. And I, I would read like, it was just like. I was like in, like, it was like I'd read like Kitchen Confidential. Then I read like Less Than Zero and it was, you know, like I was just like. I was in like that, like get a couple grams and like, just like hoof on some. In my dorm room and just like 18 year old if I ever heard of one. Confidential. And like, think I'm cool because I'm like, whatever. Nobody has any reference to anything because it's just like we only had Vice mag, you know, like, we only had one mag kind of thing. I was just like, this is what's cool. All right. But I'm excited. Bourdain is like, I, I never wanted to steal from him and I never wanted to be like. I was just like, I don't know, whatever.
Podcast Host 1
Did you ever feel any kinship to him going from, like, food to personality host.
Matty Matheson
Yes. I never tried to meet him. I never tried to go to any of his vents. I didn't want to. I didn't want.
Podcast Host 2
He would, like, never meet your heroes type thing or.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. Like, I just didn't want to. I was just like, if he's a jerk and all of a sudden, like. Like, I'm gonna pull up and be like, hey, like, let's go get drunk. Or like, I'm a chef, too. Or like, hey, man, I only worked in. I only worked in French bistros. Like, I like it. We not saying we have a lot of similarities, but I'm like, I was just like, I just never wanted to. Because I was just like, if it wasn't what I wanted, then I was just like. And also, like, I'm good. Like, I'm just like, did anyone.
Podcast Host 1
Did anyone ever.
Matty Matheson
Everyone doesn't have to be friends.
Podcast Host 1
Sure. You know, anyone. Did people try to connect you guys? Like, you know, everyone's like, oh, who's next boarding? Who's next boarding? It's like, has your name. Have people ever tried to force your name into that conversation?
Matty Matheson
I'm not that deep. I like, I. I like people to be happy. I like a human connection. I like all that stuff. But I'm like, I don't know. I don't think so. I. I honestly, like, I'm running around the world trying to, like, shoot guns and eat gravy.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
You know, like, I'm like, I'm. I'm kind of different. And you're like dirt bags.
Podcast Host 2
Quite schedule y. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Matty Matheson
The tooch.
Podcast Host 1
What do you give that show?
Matty Matheson
Just Lizard Man.
Podcast Host 2
I love it.
Matty Matheson
I love it.
Podcast Host 2
I think it's. Oh, it's a compliment.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. The best way. No, I think he's. Dude, like, I love it. I want to see him. Like, I just want to be a fly on that wall.
Podcast Host 2
Right?
Matty Matheson
Like, that's the thing. Like, that fool is. He's incredible.
Podcast Host 1
His post is. How you say, mult?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, dude, My man is eyes to be that.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, that's what it is. Like, you brush your teeth in the morning. That's what's going on in your brain. Like, that's like, that's who you are, car. I'm like, I love that.
Podcast Host 2
What is knocking around?
Podcast Host 1
Should I wear today?
Matty Matheson
Yeah, like, dude, it's. He's like a Peterson from, like, Seinfeld, you know? Like, it is this, like. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
How's me? Speaking of being on the road, how's being on the road recently with Pig Pen the best.
Matty Matheson
I love it. It's. It's.
Podcast Host 2
It's a brief tour, right?
Matty Matheson
Yeah, three show. We got three shows.
Podcast Host 1
We, We.
Matty Matheson
Wade's. Wade's busy. I'm busy. The Romanos are busy. Tom, Tommy's busy. Everyone's like in bands already that are full time. Like the Romanos and Tommy. They're in a full time band, right? Wade's busy doing his. I'm busy doing my. To make this even a thing is like an incredible thing in itself, but like getting in the van with. I've known all these guys since high school.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So it is like. Like that's the thing is like we wrote that we wrote. It was during the pandemic. Like, it was just like, do you want to get together and like write an album? We wrote that album in one day, we recorded it the next day and then three years later. Yeah, no, it's good. You can tell, buddy. Go out of here, bro. No, it's sick. But the, The. Yeah, no, it's fine. It's sick. Like, it's just like, whatever. Like, we're playing shows, people are coming out. It's sick playing a couple fests. Like some people don't with us. Which is great because they think I'm a plant or some.
Podcast Host 2
Wait, really?
Matty Matheson
There's a. There's like.
Podcast Host 3
Right.
Matty Matheson
It's also like, Wanna fire? They play like stadiums. It's is like. It is one of those things. But I'm like, we're still like hardcore kids. Like, I still picture my. I'm just like. I don't know. I wake up and put on hate. Breed the same as everybody else, you know, I brush my teeth. Earth crisis every day, you know?
Podcast Host 2
Like, I'm like.
Matty Matheson
I don't know. Like, I'm like, I'm still in my mind. I'm like, yeah, cool. I can go do Toy Story and I'll leave and I'll go to a show, you know? Like, I don't. I don't really see my job as my job. I go do it. I'm like, I don't understand. People are so obsessed with fame and can't understand. Understand fame or celebrity or anything. And I'm like, I don't think of that as anything. So I'm just like, I don't. I'm like, I go to. Do you have a job? Okay, I. I have a job, right? And I do my job and then I go and be in my friends. Me and my high school friends, bands. And it's just like one of those Things where it's just like. There's a little bit of, like, there's definitely discourse about the hardcore community about, like, what the we're doing. I'm like, I don't know. Get. Don't worry. We're not making money. We're not doing anything. We're still in the van. Like, guys, though, it's okay.
Podcast Host 1
Are you guys, like, roughing it, or are you. Now that's. You're, like, a little older. Little. Have more.
Matty Matheson
Little. Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Part of the appeal. Right. That's why.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, well, it's not even appeal. It's just what we do. Like, it's just like, I don't know. Like, I have no problem sleeping on the floor. I don't care. Like, it is like, we'll get, like, two hotel rooms, you know? Like, it is, like, it's just fun. Like, it is, like, whatever. It's just hanging out with your friends and doing stuff like crushing, you know, monster beef jerky just in the van.
Podcast Host 1
Gas station.
Matty Matheson
Yeah, dude.
Podcast Host 2
Amazing.
Matty Matheson
Also, the Romanos are, like, musical geniuses. And it's the funniest thing about being in the band with them. And, like, I've known these guys 27 years, you know, almost for 26 years, but it is a. They don't listen to music in the van.
Podcast Host 2
What do they listen to?
Podcast Host 1
Nothing.
Matty Matheson
Nothing.
Podcast Host 1
They're like, you in the gym, dude.
Matty Matheson
I know, but you're just in a van with, like, six guys and it's like, incredible. Or Carson comes, like, Dan's wife comes with us sometimes, but it's is, like. It's incredible. I was just like, I'm so down with this. I was like, wait. We're just raw dogging five hours right now.
Podcast Host 2
Wow.
Matty Matheson
And you. You know, everyone puts in headphones or whatever they want, but Dan, who drives everywhere. Because he drives. He's the one who drives everywhere. It's like, like. No, me and Wade were like, you know, maybe like, talk radio.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Something like pop on a podcast.
Matty Matheson
Pop on a podcast. And we're just like. He's just like, nah, I'm good. We're just, like, amazing. Like, the music's in his mind. Gotta focus on the road thing, I think. Playing music your whole life. And Dan Romano is such a musical. Like, he's incredible at it, you know, he is an incredible musician. So I think him doing that, I was just like, I love you, Danny, so much. I love you, psychopath.
Podcast Host 2
And I'm gonna.
Matty Matheson
I. I'm like, I'm not even gonna. I'm gonna sit here Be quiet too. For three hours.
Podcast Host 2
Let me see.
Matty Matheson
You want to be quiet for three hours.
Podcast Host 2
You all about with this go.
Podcast Host 1
Let's get into your mind back when you guys were like young, dumb and full of common before you again, you know, found some monetary success. What was like the brokest behavior that you had to participate in like as
Matty Matheson
an adult that might, you know, as an adult as.
Podcast Host 1
As a young adult.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Sleeping on floors, gas station dinners. Like what. What's something that I don't know, maybe is like you look back on. You're like, whoa. Holy. I can't.
Matty Matheson
I've been lucky. Like I'm like I've always been with like Trish, so she's always God. But I was hiding like eviction notices and like doing stuff like that. And like bleak. Taking money and like being like oh yeah, I paid rent, you know, but that was me more being a drug addict.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Not necessarily broke. Go hand inand not being broke.
Matty Matheson
Me just spending my money elsewhere.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah. I was addicted to being broke.
Matty Matheson
Yeah. But I. Yeah, like I'm. I don't know. Yeah, dude, ask my friends.
Podcast Host 2
I'm like, what's like maybe what's the grossest thing you would eat when you.
Matty Matheson
Grossest thing I would eat?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
I was always working in restaurants and I could always cook. So like it was one of those things I'm like, I would would, you know, really like, I was just like, I. I think I used to work at like La select and like. And that was in like at the bottom of Chinatown in Toronto. And it's just like, just living off of like a two dollar bun me, you know, get like two or three of those or like even like in college, like I remember I finally lived in a city that had like Taco Bell because I can't like my town did not have like fast food restaurants.
Podcast Host 1
How crazy.
Matty Matheson
You only had like a McDonald's.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
So I would go Timmy Hortons. Yeah, Timmy Hoes.
Ad Host
Dude.
Matty Matheson
I love Tim dogs. Timmy is good. I like it also like living in a small town. I hate coffee now, so I only drank like drip. And I love like, I love just like shitty drip. Like I don't drink like you know, things anymore.
Podcast Host 2
A cortado.
Matty Matheson
Oh boy. Get out of here. But yeah, I think it was just like eating on like no money. And also like, like when I used to tour with my friends, bands like back in like 20 when I was in my 20s, I. It was just like being on the road with that is like you get $10 per diem a day. And I remember I. We were on the east coast one time and everyone gets $10 a day. And like, that was your per diem, so you had 10 bucks. This is like, you know, whatever. 20, 10 or some shit. Whatever. Maybe before that. I remember on the. We were three days away from home and I had like, they gave us like our week. Like, you get like, you know, 50 bucks or whatever it is, is. And I remember we were on the east coast of Canada and we were in like Halifax or some. And at Subway on the east coast, sometimes you'll do like lobster roll. You get like, lobster.
Podcast Host 2
Wow. Fancy.
Matty Matheson
I was kind of hungry and, like, hungover and, like, you know, I spent all of. I bought like a 32 because I
Podcast Host 2
got like, blew it all the perm in one go.
Matty Matheson
And I bought this like, 12 inch lobster salad. And I got like bacon on it. Like all that. Like a club sandwich, but with. I made it, put all this on it, and I ate it, right?
Podcast Host 2
The whole thing.
Matty Matheson
And then everyone's just like, you got no money. We are out here for three more days. I was like, I don't care.
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And I just like, whatever. I got home, I forget, like, whatever. But I'm like, I didn't have money. Like, you know, like, I. I live. I was in overdraft. I was, I don't know, 30. 30 till 31. You know, I rocked overdraft, right? $2,000.
Podcast Host 2
You're like, this is great, dude.
Matty Matheson
Dude. I would get a paycheck for like 2, $600 and I would have $600 in my bank account. I'd spend my live. I lived in my overdraft.
Podcast Host 3
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And then like, that was it. Like, I only had like $2,600 at a time for. Till I was in my 30s.
Podcast Host 1
But now you're good.
Matty Matheson
Me?
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Oh, I'm.
Podcast Host 2
Now you get all the talk.
Podcast Host 1
How much money you make?
Matty Matheson
What? How much money you make. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
So is there anything you still maybe, like, from your young broke days, like, has held over and, like, you still refuse to spend money on even though you can't afford it right now?
Matty Matheson
Yeah, I think I'm still like a skid. Like, you know, like, I'm still. Yeah, like, come on, you know, haven't showered in two days wearing the same underwear. Like, like, I'm out from. Like, I'm. I'm gone for a month.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Five pairs of underwear, bro.
Podcast Host 2
Stop it.
Matty Matheson
But I brought like seven. Seven suits. I have like five Ramos. You know, Like, I have like five Ramos. Like, everything's Like, I have, you know, like, this is a lot in shoes.
Podcast Host 1
This is the lobster roll mentality all over again.
Matty Matheson
But I'm like, still, like. Because that's me, right? That's what I'm like. No, nobody will see that. And that's like, the real me is like, I'm still like, I'm at Toy Story wearing underwear I've been wearing for three days in the.
Podcast Host 1
Perfect.
Matty Matheson
I'm showering, ready to. Ready to go, and I'll still, like, hotel floor. Just pull my underwear back on. Like, you know, like, it's just like. I don't know. I don't. I don't know.
Podcast Host 2
That's a treat just for you only, you know?
Ad Host
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
Like, I think it's just like, one of those things where I still like to be in the pain cage.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Matty Matheson
And I'm just like, I'm okay there. I like it there. He lives in the pain cage also. It's just like, I don't know, anytime I want to really be. Just go hang out with my brothers. They just shred me and just. Just hang with my doggies.
Podcast Host 2
Bring them back down to earth.
Podcast Host 1
Is there a purchase you've made recently that you kind of regret? Maybe those fucking five Ramos.
Matty Matheson
Honest. Okay, here's something. No, I don't care about that. That's chill. I wanted to buy. I wanted to go and get a pair of cowboy boots for this suit I was wearing, and I was in it in la and I was stressed out, and I was just like, oh, my God, am I like, I'm not gonna go to Boot Barn to get these boots. I ended up going to some store in Beverly Hills where they had cowboy boots. And I'm in this store and I'm like, okay, whatever. I. I'm like, I find these sick alligators, like, really nice. Really? And I'm just, like, sick. Like, I'm just like, oh, yeah, I'll get these ones. You know, maybe they're like 500 bucks. Bucks. I put them. I go. And it's just like, they're $4200.
Podcast Host 3
Damn.
Matty Matheson
I didn't skip a beat. I was just like, yeah, for sure. Just like a full sunken. Like, I was just like, I'm going to jail. I was like, I don't know. Like, I walked outside and I was like, spun. And I was just like, I just spent $4,200 on boots that are kind of too tight, you know? I was just like, no, it. It was for Sadie Hawkins. It was actually for. Wow. It was for Sadie Hawk Hawkins. Actually, that's why I was in town. I was just like. And I was so mad. And I brought it home and I was. I was staying at Benny's house. I was just like. And Benny's like, what did you just do? And he's very tight with money. And I was just like, dude. I was just like. I just. I don't know what to do. He's like, take them back.
Podcast Host 2
Return them.
Matty Matheson
And I was like, no, well, I can't do that. Like, I'm so embarrassed by that because of, like, I think growing up the way I grew up, like, having to do something like. Like, that is very embarrassing for me where I think. I think, like, people that are born rich return anything because they don't give it. They don't give. But I was like, I would. I would die. And I also can't complain about anything because it, like, will kill me because I was just like, I can't. I literally have like a no complain thing kind of thing where I'm like, I can't complain about that. But that's what I did. And I. I still, like, think about it.
Podcast Host 1
You kept them?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, I got him.
Matty Matheson
I brought him here.
Podcast Host 2
Okay.
Matty Matheson
I brought him here because I was just like, I'm gonna wear them with this suit. And they look good, good. And then I. But every time I take them, I'm kind of, like, mad at them. Like, I don't like them. And I was like, last time when I wore them to Sadie Hawkins, I was like, by the end of the night, my feet really hurt and they're kind of tight. And I was just like. I was like, I hate these.
Podcast Host 1
Stretch a little bit.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah. And you gotta get the cost per wear down.
Matty Matheson
Like. But then I, like, googled the brand. Like, I was just. I didn't even know what brand. I was just like, they just look fresh. And I was like, these are sick. I'm gonna get these. And I was like, I didn't know about the brand or anything. And then I, like, googled it. I was like, oh, these? Because I was like, did I get ripped off, too? I was like, did I just get, like, bel Aired or, like, you know, like, I was just like. And then I looked. I was like, oh, no, these boots are, like, hella expensive.
Podcast Host 2
And I was just like the old air shuffle.
Podcast Host 1
When you say Benny's tight with money, what do you mean by that?
Matty Matheson
Benny just. Benny's good with money. He's a frugal unit, that guy.
Podcast Host 1
He spends money, though. He spends money?
Matty Matheson
Well, yeah, like, that doesn't mean he's not cheap, but that's like, he would never buy him. Like, he would buy. He would wear like a million dollar diamond bracelet, but he would never buy, you know, like, I think there's a thing like, he's so wor. If he wears. He'd be wearing to come Kova.
Podcast Host 1
He's probably also roasting a little bit.
Matty Matheson
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
What do you like to spend your money on?
Matty Matheson
Me?
Podcast Host 1
Besides. Besides family. Besides your own business endeavors and investing in yourself?
Ad Host
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
What do you like to splash out on? Little treat moment?
Matty Matheson
No. I don't know. True. I think. I think it is like, luggage is a thing that I'm like, I'm really. I'm like, superficial. I'm like, oddly superficial where I'm like, I'm down to, like, work look like this. And then when I'm at the belt, I'm like, I kind of. I want my stuff to be like, whatever. But then I'm like, I feel like an idiot even saying that out loud, but I'm just like, it is.
Podcast Host 1
Is that like, you want to defy the expectations that people have you when they see you dressed like this?
Matty Matheson
Like, I am embarrassed. I was just like, oh, yeah. Like, I'm like. I'm like, always, like, embarrassed. Like when people say hi to me and I'm sitting up front or something like that. I'm always just like, hey, how you guys doing? Like, I'm always like, so nice and I want everyone. Whatever. Like, I just am embarrassed. But I'm like, also, like, having. Where Trish doesn't give a shit. And so, like, we're try. I'm like, you don't want to bring like, one of these bags. And she'll just grab like, her like, big crazy, like, L.L. bean tote, which is tight. But she's. She's still. She's like a. Trish is the realest. She's the most humbler of anybody. She would never spend a dollar or, like, never. Never once has been like, oh, my God, I want these, like, Prada things. Or like, every time I like, I have to push that stuff on her where I'm like, let's go into Prada and, like, get you some stuff. She's like, no, I don't like it. I'm like, like, okay. And then she's a cheap date. Yeah, she is on some. Well, sometimes.

Guests: Matty Matheson (Actor, Chef, Restaurateur, Producer)
Main Theme: Navigating the zeitgeist as a chef, actor, and creative—Matty reflects on "The Bear", his career, acting, upcoming projects including Toy Story 5, personal philosophies, family life, food culture, and the meaning of trying new things as an artist and a human.
This episode reunites the Throwing Fits hosts with Matty Matheson for a wide-ranging, irreverent, and deeply candid conversation. Matty covers the emotional arc of ending "The Bear", pivoting to new creative ventures (including his Super Athletic Film Company and a role in "Toy Story 5"), his approach to fatherhood and fame, and his authentic voice on everything from health routines to fashion to growing up broke. The interview is peppered with Matty’s signature humor, self-deprecation, and philosophical reflections, offering both hilarious anecdotes and earnest wisdom.
On style and authenticity: “You’re looking. I’m living. I don’t know. I don’t look back.” (06:06)
On “The Bear”’s emotional ending: “Five years of her life... What an incredible ride... Loved and hated. Perfect. If you’re in the middle you’re dog shit.” (13:00–13:42)
On acting process: “They just wanted my voice... ‘I don’t even read. I just pull up and read some method voice acting.’” (21:41)
On parenthood: “They know who I am. My children know who I am. I’m dad.” (26:48)
On health: “The thing is, if we want to get into it… when I got sober, I started just... eating at three restaurants a day... sport eating. And I just... got huge.” (49:25–50:02)
On entrepreneurship: “I want to help people make stuff... I’ve seen I have found out what I really love doing...” (32:22)
On doing vs complaining: “People doing stuff aren’t really complaining about doing stuff. They’re complaining about how hard it is. But they’re doing it.” (34:42)
On influence: “If you’re fat and you got style, it’s because of me, you loser. I’m number one. I’m the best. Nobody ever put clothes on like me.” (103:05)
Matty is disarmingly honest, switching between philosophical wisdom and self-mockery at a breakneck pace. The episode maintains a blend of irreverent, locker-room friendship and sincere reflection on hard-earned growth, creativity, and not taking oneself too seriously. For fans and newcomers alike, this conversation serves as a roadmap for staying grounded, trying new things, and building real communities in era obsessed with hype.
Matty’s parting plugs are classic anti-promo: “Watch The Bear and Toy Story 5... I won’t even mention any of the indie stuff because, like, you know, who cares?” (105:14)
