Dr. J. Vernon McGee
You and I have a high priest that is in heaven today, and he's as busy as he can be. Now when he says he sat down, it means that his redemption was complete. It's just same as when it says God rested on the seventh day. He wasn't tired. Lord Jesus didn't sit down up there to do nothing. He's busier today than he's ever been. He died down here to save us. He lives up yonder to keep us saved. And you and I ought to keep in touch with Him. This is reality. This is spiritual. The trouble today is we're out of touch with a living Christ and He's no longer a reality to us.

Episode: Be in touch with Him
Host: Dr. J. Vernon McGee
Date: July 17, 2026
This brief yet powerful episode centers around the importance of maintaining a living, personal connection with Jesus Christ as our high priest in heaven. Dr. J. Vernon McGee emphasizes that Christ's work did not end with His sacrifice; He continues to be actively involved in the lives of believers, keeping them saved and present spiritually. The message challenges listeners to avoid becoming spiritually distant and to keep Christ as a daily, experiential reality.
Timestamp [00:07]:
Dr. McGee begins by affirming the ongoing, dynamic ministry of Jesus in heaven:
“You and I have a high priest that is in heaven today, and he's as busy as he can be.”
He explains that Jesus' act of sitting down at God’s right hand signifies the completion of redemption—not inactivity.
Insight:
The image of Jesus as a "busy" High Priest underlines the continual, present work He does for believers—not merely a historical Savior, but an active, living presence.
Timestamp [00:14]:
Dr. McGee revisits biblical language about rest to clarify its meaning:
“Now when he says he sat down, it means that his redemption was complete. It's just same as when it says God rested on the seventh day. He wasn't tired. Lord Jesus didn't sit down up there to do nothing.”
Insight:
Rest is not idleness. God's rest after creation and Christ's seated posture in heaven both symbolize finished, sufficient work.
Timestamp [00:25]:
The living Christ continues His ministry:
“He's busier today than he's ever been. He died down here to save us. He lives up yonder to keep us saved.”
Insight:
Dr. McGee distinguishes between Christ’s completed work of salvation (His death) and His ongoing work (our preservation and advocacy).
Timestamp [00:33]:
Dr. McGee concludes with an appeal:
“And you and I ought to keep in touch with Him. This is reality. This is spiritual. The trouble today is we're out of touch with a living Christ and He's no longer a reality to us.”
Insight:
The core challenge for believers is to avoid spiritual drift. The Christian faith is not merely about historical knowledge, but about present, daily communion with Jesus Christ.

In this concise and heartfelt mini-sermon, Dr. McGee reminds listeners that faith is a present reality—not just an event in the past. Jesus Christ’s active, heavenly ministry is meant to be a continual source of strength, assurance, and relationship. The call is not just to know about Christ, but to be in daily, vital touch with Him.
