Day26 is a band that Diddy formed and nurtured so you know they’ve been through it. They succeeded, broke up, reunited, and now they’re independent. They got stories.

Brian Angel
Victor Ratio okay though. Victor Ratio okay though?
Torre
That might be the best question I've ever been asked.
Brian Angel
You's a phenomenal person. I mean you legendary.
Torre
I am a fan of you, my brother.
Willie Taylor
In the Lorian words, the gotcha gotcha is this. They give you the contract before you even make the ban. So imagine you don't make the ban. You still for a certain amount of time locked under that contract and can't do nothing else until that time is over. Ironclad. There you go, bro. Like, I remember some people that didn't do it because of that. Like. Cause even if we don't. What if we don't make the band?
Torre
They didn't do the show at all.
Willie Taylor
Yeah, like. Cause we'll be stuck if we can't do nothing for a certain amount of time.
Torre
I can't do anything else in the industry, anywhere else on a major level.
Willie Taylor
Until it was a certain amount of time that they had to wait even if they didn't make the band. So you gotta realize what you've given up. So if you took that trip to.
Qwanell Mosley
New York to try to audition for him, if you had to sign.
Torre
Day 26 is one of those groups that came out of making the band put together by Diddy and now they're independent and moving forward. But we talk about some of what went on with Diddy and what it's like to be reunited again. Amazing conversation with Day 26 on tour a show. How y'all doing?
Willie Taylor
Good, man. Pretty good.
Torre
Tell me about making an album when it's been a long time since the previous album and there's a lot of personal shit that about what you went through with Bad Boy, what you went through with. You gotta deal with all that shit before you get down to the music. So tell me about that of just coming back together after all the shit you went through.
Brian Angel
Well, I'm Brian. Hi, everybody. Now I, Brian Angel. I'm an Aquarius. But anyway, I ended up, like, reaching out to Willie because I left the group because I felt like I was growing in one direction and I felt like the group was growing another. And I didn't want to stunt the group's growth, you know what I'm saying? So, like, I remove myself from the situation so that I can go on my journey and find out whatever I need to find out. And, you know, I started reading more. I started. I started working on relationship with God. I started, you know, just doing a whole lot. A lot more posit. Positivity, like, for myself instead of, like. Because, like, I was always the person that was kind of doing for everybody and not for myself. And I don't know, Like, I. Like, I just felt like God was telling me to, you know, reach out to you, you know, reach out to your brothers and make things right. So I ended up reaching out to Willie. Not to get back in the group or anything, just to make things right.
Torre
You know, to reconnect.
Brian Angel
Yeah. I mean, because I did leave the group, like, in a messed up way. I posted on Instagram. Instagram, you know what I'm saying? So Willie and I talked for a couple of days, and then he asked me a question, like, hey, man, what do you think about talking to the guys again? You know, just. Just talking.
Torre
Did you apologize or you just reconnected?
Brian Angel
We reconnected. You know, we hashed things out, you know what I'm saying? Like, which we weren't able to do in the past. I'm just thankful that, like, God is who he is, you know what I'm saying? And God has his hands on us, like, the way that he has. He. He definitely. I definitely matured a whole lot, you know, my time away from the group. But, yeah, like I said, we talked. He was like, you want to talk to the rest of the fellas? I was like, cool if they want to talk. And, yeah, the rest is history. I'm not saying that, you know, it was like. I don't know. I think it was kind of, like, organic in a way. It was organic after we kind of talked.
Robert Curry
So, yeah, I agree.
Torre
What do you think about that?
Robert Curry
Yeah, I feel like, you know, it was at first when he. When he left, you know, it's just all about. I always tell a story about it. It felt like, you Know, forget him. We can do it without him, right?
Torre
Yeah.
Robert Curry
But then I guess when he left, we kind of. I mean, me personally, I kind of figured out and really seen who he really was in the group and how important, how special his part was even to be in a group. So that's why I really feel like it's supposed to be all five of us. So when he came, he called. I never really hit a beef at all. I just wanted to get to the work and whatever that looked like for everybody. He ended up talking to the rest of the guys every day. Everybody. You know, he's all like brothers. Anyway, so then after that, it's like, okay, cool, what's the next chapter? Let's. Let's do something for the fans. Let's surprise them. Let's do a new album. And we. Did they want. They was already calling us to do things anyway, so we just really kind of served.
Torre
Your journey's a little bit different.
Qwanell Mosley
Yes. Why are you saying that?
Torre
Well, because you left.
Qwanell Mosley
Yes. Correct.
Torre
Right. Or. Well, do you consider that you left or you were kicked out?
Qwanell Mosley
I left. I left because of management.
Willie Taylor
Okay.
Qwanell Mosley
And that's when I went to sing background with Dirty Money. So for a short period of time, then I got back in the group.
Torre
Yeah. How did you. How and why did you come back?
Qwanell Mosley
Well, that's easy. Like, I guess after realizing that, the issue really wasn't with my group, it was with the manager. So it was easy to come back because it was never an issue with these four fellas. I always only had an issue with Screw Face. No matter what we argued. Oh, I'm so honest. I'm sorry. I was. I didn't mean to say his name.
Torre
That's what we doing now.
Qwanell Mosley
Yeah. But, yeah, that was. My only issue was with management, so I never had an issue with the guys. It's always been like genuine love. Like, even if I didn't understand something or. It never was an issue with us.
Willie Taylor
Yeah.
Qwanell Mosley
This has never been an issue.
Willie Taylor
I kind of. We was working on a project called the Return. And when I was calling to put everybody back together to do that, one thing I knew is we couldn't do it without Q. Cause we had already did it so long. And every time we did something, it was like, yo, where's Q? Where's Q? It's not. They didn't enjoy our show or enjoy what he brought without him. But, you know, he's one of the five. People see the whole group. They want to see everybody. So when we came back together for the return, that was the only way I was really willing to do it is if we, you know, made sure that we had Q on board. It was all five of us.
Qwanell Mosley
What about for you? You know, I don't really care.
Torre
Damn, Mike, you didn't care about what it was.
Qwanell Mosley
4, 3, 2, 1.
Torre
Whoever's there, you're ready to go. Is it sometimes. Sometimes when there's a fracturing or just a rough patch, somebody might say or do something that they later regret, and then they may have to apologize. Was there somebody who had to apologize to others about, hey, you know, I'm sorry I said that I was mad. Now we can.
Brian Angel
That happens quite a bit. You know what I'm saying? But, like, I feel like real men, like, real men can like, accept the fact that, like, yo, I fucked up. You know what I'm saying?
Torre
Yeah.
Brian Angel
As a man, I'm gonna come to you and I'mma apologize to you.
Torre
Yeah.
Brian Angel
You know what I'm saying? And if you. It's up to you whether or not you choose to accept it or be like, nah, fuck you, I respect that as well.
Torre
The vibe here is very strong. The brotherhood is very. So I feel like you would know they will accept my apology. But are you. You know what I mean, man enough to be like, I do need you to apologize to him. Excuse me.
Qwanell Mosley
I think that's part of our mental health too. All of us, like, speaking up and taking ownership of accountability for yourself. You know what I mean? When you've done something or.
Willie Taylor
I just had to apologize to the group a couple of weeks ago. Yeah.
Qwanell Mosley
Sometimes you gotta.
Willie Taylor
I literally did.
Qwanell Mosley
Sometimes you gotta speak up and apologize, even if you don't want to. You know what I'm saying?
Torre
Like, all right, so let's talk about your man Diddy. What happened?
Willie Taylor
What part? What part? He did some shit we don't know about.
Torre
Where was the first. Looking back, where was the first time that the road went left where you now are? Like, that was fucked up.
Robert Curry
No, we just didn't know all that stuff, man. So as we keep hearing these accusations and all these different things come out, we don't know what's real, what's up. It's all alleged, but guess what? It's all fucked up.
Torre
All of it.
Robert Curry
So you think of how long it's been going on. Fucked up. The people included. Fucked up. People behind the scenes. Fucked up. It's fucked up.
Torre
You know what I mean?
Willie Taylor
So we can say fucked up, right? Yeah.
Torre
I mean.
Willie Taylor
Cause if we can't, we gotta start.
Robert Curry
This over then we fucked up. Now if we can't, then we just fucked up.
Willie Taylor
I'm gonna be honest though, man, you know, because I was watching, I was watching another documentary and Ray J was on there and he was saying that he had never heard of none of this. As close as he was to Diddy. And they was trying to say how. Well everybody who say. But bro, I'll be honest, I. We don't know that man. Not the one that's being. We don't know that man.
Torre
Bro, you don't know him.
Willie Taylor
Not like in the way that version.
Qwanell Mosley
They trying to say we don't know him like that.
Torre
Who do you know? Like who do you know him to be to you? Who is he?
Willie Taylor
He a hardworking, A hard working dude that always working all the time and always making us work all the time.
Brian Angel
Somebody owe me some money.
Willie Taylor
And there we go as somebody. Somebody I need to cash at me or Zel or whatever form of other pay.
Torre
How much do you think, how much do you. How much do you think you are owed?
Robert Curry
You know, my thing is we had a. We had a number one TV show for four seasons, right? Yeah. So. And I know if I heard some numbers from making the band three, there was more. They said they were more like at 50 million. So we were well over that. And from that, you know, from album sales, from publishing, I mean we didn't really make money till we hit the road.
Torre
So.
Robert Curry
I mean, of course.
Willie Taylor
Yeah.
Robert Curry
So it was just, I mean, just, I mean just not when you look at the publishing and see that his mom and his sons. Yeah. The puppet we supposed to have. It just becomes. Yeah. A couple things especially.
Willie Taylor
They wasn't even old enough to sing what we were singing. How you get on the. You can't hum. Skip or.
Torre
Skip. Skip.
Willie Taylor
How would that make you feel, bro? You just looked up, you did all this and they got somebody else name getting your residuals. When you look at the paperwork, bro, and you try to figure out, tell.
Torre
Me who, how does that happen?
Brian Angel
Who's getting on my bread.
Qwanell Mosley
Because he owned it and this is his contract and we didn't. We had to sign over or we signed what we were presented.
Willie Taylor
Yeah.
Qwanell Mosley
And you didn't have a choice.
Brian Angel
Non negotiable.
Qwanell Mosley
It was either that it wasn't non negotiable. You knew what you were signing, but you just couldn't do anything about it. Either you signed it or you want.
Torre
Were you? Were you. He said that's what non negotiable means. Did you. Were you not allowed to have a lawyer look at.
Willie Taylor
No.
Qwanell Mosley
Yes, you did. You can read it. You was allowed to have an attorney. We just couldn't change anything.
Robert Curry
And then when y'all get finished reading.
Willie Taylor
It, you are not giving back.
Torre
Same.
Willie Taylor
Why you gonna pay an attorney to come to do some shitty. Can't change. Hey, I need you to come here to read these words. I could already read.
Brian Angel
It was like, hey, giving you some paperwork. Basically, in lamest terms, we're giving you some paperwork. It's gonna be a. This could be a great opportunity for you. But you can't. What's on this paperwork is going to be on this paperwork. It can't be changed in any way, shape or form.
Willie Taylor
It can't. It wasn't gonna do. In Lori, in the Lorian words, the gotcha gotcha is this. They give you the contract before you even make the ban. You feel what I'm saying? You get the contract when you get called the company. So imagine you don't make them banned. You still for a certain amount of time locked under that contract and can't do nothing until that time is over. Think of. That's how. That's how it is, bro. Ironclad. There you go, bro. Like, I remember some people, like, literally, that's. That didn't do it because of that.
Torre
Like.
Willie Taylor
Cause if we. Even if we don't. What if we don't make the band.
Torre
They didn't do the show at all.
Willie Taylor
Yeah, like. Cause we'll be stuck if we can't do nothing for a certain amount of time.
Torre
I can't do anything else in the industry anywhere else on a major level.
Willie Taylor
Until it was a certain amount of time that they had to wait even if they didn't make the band. So you gotta realize what you've given up. So if you took that trip to.
Qwanell Mosley
New York to try to audition for him, if you had to sign you.
Torre
Wow. What else? That's fucking crazy.
Qwanell Mosley

Willie Taylor
All the time.
Qwanell Mosley
Did he?
Torre
I mean, like, the way of communicating is very fucking intense. He. He changes between motivator, who's like, Coach Puff, who's like, you could do it. You have the spirit in you.
Willie Taylor
It's mixed in with fucking you too.
Torre
Yeah. And then to be like, you suck. Rawr.
Qwanell Mosley
Right? That's like, hi.
Willie Taylor
Pops. I would say that I said this earlier. He said I said this earlier. We grew up as men. As men. Not everybody, but most of us grew up playing sports, man, like football, basketball. Even if you was boxing or whatever you was doing, a lot of us grew up with coaches. And for me, that was not a big deal. Coaches are most of the time, you know, screaming at you like that.
Qwanell Mosley
Loud and abrasive.
Willie Taylor
Yeah.
Torre
So for me, especially our age, right, our kids, they don't do that no more.
Willie Taylor
No, they don't.
Torre
In our era, that was normal.
Willie Taylor
So for me, I didn't take Diddy's scolding like that. I took it more as a coach, you know what I'm saying? Like, get out the game. You ain't playing good. You know what I'm saying?
Torre
I didn't work for him. He called me up and screamed at me once.
Qwanell Mosley
He screamed at everybody.
Torre
Yeah. And I took it like that. Like I was used to. As a black man, I was used to getting screamed at. So I wasn't like, you can't speak to me that way. It was like, well, sometimes niggas get loud.
Willie Taylor
Tell him to try. Tell him to try making a band now with Gen Z. He'll get his ass whooped.
Torre
Right, right, right.
Willie Taylor
They're not used to whoop his Ass. Try that shit with Gen Z, right?
Torre
But it's not. It does break you down. He is trying to break you down, right? He's not really lifting you up, right?
Qwanell Mosley
He's trying to get a certain product out of you, or he's trying to get a certain thing out of you. And he only knows his way of.
Torre
Going about doing it, which is to break you down.
Qwanell Mosley
Right? And that's why I said it's two sides. There's a sober side and a high side. When he's very high, it's very scary because it can get sacrificial.
Willie Taylor
That's so funny what he said.
Qwanell Mosley
You know what I'm saying? Like, that's not even funny, man.
Willie Taylor
No, I'm talking about what you say. Like, the hype of, like, for real.
Qwanell Mosley
You get so high and you try, you know, start thinking all kind of crazy things, like. And then next thing you know, you're trying to sacrifice this person. It's just a lot, man. I've seen him that high before.
Torre
Did he drug y'all?
Qwanell Mosley
Oh, he ain't drugged nothing.
Willie Taylor
We don't know that, Puff.
Qwanell Mosley
Well, I have never been drugged.
Willie Taylor
I have never. It received a drug from Diddy.
Torre
Because the guy. The guy I know was like, constantly like, take a shot, take a drink.
Willie Taylor
We'd have been to parties with drinks, though, man.
Qwanell Mosley
These are like. You would be thinking you'll be taking one thing, and then you probably taking horse trick lines.
Torre
Right, right, right, right, right, right. I heard that specifically many times. Yeah. And people are like, I didn't. I lost control of my body for 12 hours.
Willie Taylor
Yeah. Or don't remember that whole night.
Torre
Yes. Y tranquilizer.
Willie Taylor
Yes, bro. That's what I got. That's evil, yo.
Brian Angel
I hope that's not true.
Willie Taylor
That's crazy. The big thing going around, that was that. But I don't know. I don't know.
Qwanell Mosley
Tranquilizer. Knock you right out.
Brian Angel
Tranquilizer, though, bro.
Qwanell Mosley
Knock you right out, bro. Have you.
Willie Taylor
So. Have you. So, you know, that's easy.
Qwanell Mosley
They have to drag you, too.
Torre
Right? You know what I mean? Right.
Willie Taylor
Well, man, I pray for anybody who ever been in that situation and. Cause that's overboard, bro.
Torre
Some people said that. He told me, he made it clear to them, I have the ability to kill people and get away with it. Did he talk about that with you?
Willie Taylor
I never heard it.
Torre
Why you laughing?
Qwanell Mosley
I mean, they don't know that, Puff. But I mean, I. I go through mental. I go through men. I go through mental health.
Torre
Say again?
Qwanell Mosley
I take mental health. I have a psychiatrist and a therapist. And in my documents, it's written down that I was very, very afraid for my life in different circumstances dealing with him. So you know what I mean? Like, it is what it is. Like, I don't think. I mean, it's hard to believe if you haven't been around them. It's not just him. It's his stylist, it's his artists. It's all of them that are commit. What is the word?
Torre
Conspiring.
Qwanell Mosley
No, they're not inspired by him.
Torre
Conspiring.
Qwanell Mosley
Conspiring. And there is millions. They want to be just like him, and they're caught up in his lifestyle. They caught up in what he do. And they all are the same. They are kind of evil, man. Like, it's crazy. Very evil. Very evil people. And I don't know. I don't know why, but like I said, it felt very sacrificial. When you're great, you got to watch your surroundings. You got to watch people who will try to come in and take your spot, who try to dim your light, try to take away. Take you from your purpose. You gotta watch out for those people and watch out for the people who try to sacrifice you, man.
Torre
It seemed like he sort of lived like a king in that. All the people around him you talk about all the support people were like, we're here to do whatever you want. Correct, Right. And the artists are like, I need him to get to my dreams. Right?
Qwanell Mosley
Some of the artists. But some of the artists are down with them, too. You know what I'm saying? Like, they, like. It's not just all the artists aren't like, people. All these people come out as victims. Aren't victims, man. Like, you know, all these artists of his that are signed saying that, oh, everybody's against Diddy, or what is it, conspiracy against him? It's not conspiring against him. It's not just him. It's them, too. Some of us are very innocent. Like these bros. They haven't been around. They know when I was around him, they weren't around. So they can honestly say they haven't experienced. They haven't saw that. They honestly haven't. But what I saw, man, was two different personalities.
Torre
What?
Qwanell Mosley
The doctor prescribed me as bipolar.
Torre
Okay?
Qwanell Mosley
Two different personalities. I saw a high one and I saw a sober one.
Torre
Well, the way you said that reminded me of some. I mean, you know, my story with my cousin was his intern, and I called him and was like, please hire my young cousin as an intern. Free intern. But still, I knew him well enough to get him on the phone. And. Yeah, okay, fine. So they're rolling together for, like, three months. He's in the house in the Upper west side and Atlanta, whatever, and then the shit just ends. And I'm like, what's going on with Puff? Like, it ended. I'm like, what do you mean, it ended? Like what? Like I fucking used some capital. What do you mean, it just ended? Kid's, like, 20s, whatever. And he wouldn't say. And then, like, years later, he said puff had said, come home with me tonight or the internship is over.
Qwanell Mosley
Yeah.
Torre
So he's trying to get with every. I don't think he even cared. He's. Everybody around him, he's trying to get with them.
Qwanell Mosley
Yeah.
Willie Taylor
Because that. I mean, if that's true, that's probably a thing of control, though, because why would you. You know what I'm saying? That's got to be a control mechanism if that's what you're doing to everybody around you in your circle, like, you know what I'm saying? If. It doesn't matter if they're. That just sounds like a control mechanism.
Torre
Did he try to get with you?
Qwanell Mosley
No. Nothing sexually, Hap. Nothing. Puff never tried to get with me sexually. But like I was saying, there's other people around this camp that have crossed the line with you. Yeah.
Torre
Sanctioned by him.
Brian Angel
I'm just happy that we're past that now and we have an amazing album that's out right now entitled Day Ones, which is available right now, all streaming platforms. You know what I'm saying? That's what we're here today for, to celebrate this new album, which is amazing.
Willie Taylor
Is it.
Torre
Is it? Well, is it as sweet as it used to be? Like, you came into this with a certain vision of, like, being a singer will be this exciting, Right. It will bring me this amount of joy. Right. And then all this shit happened, and now you're back at it. Is it still as joyful as it. You know what I mean?
Brian Angel
Honestly, one thing I've always said, and I can pretty much speak for everybody in this group, like, music is one thing that we all love. Music has never, ever let us down. Even, you know, in our worst times, music has always been there.
Willie Taylor
Yes.
Brian Angel
So I don't think. I don't think that it's. It's been ruined. I mean, obviously, when we first came in, it was, you know, all the glitz and glamour, all the bells and whistles, because, you know, we had huge budgets and things like that. Now we're independent. So we're, you know, we're digging in our own pockets. We, you know, our team is digging their own pockets, you know, to make sure that everything is done properly.
Torre
Cause I've heard other artists say the industry ruins the creativity and the love for music.
Qwanell Mosley
It's not the industry, I believe it's the people in the industry that will ruin the experience. You know what I'm saying? It's not the industry. It's not the gigs and the touring and the creative process. Making an album and living your dream in this industry. It's not that. It's the evil people who. Who hating, who don't want you to go far, who wants that power over you. You know what I mean? It's some type of people that you gotta go. It's always somebody that, you know, they have their own rules when they wanna do something, you know, just for anything in business, if I put money behind you, I want my product done a certain way. And a lot of people, when they have that kind of authority over you, it turns into something else. Because they wanna influence you to do other things. Because they feel like they're in control of your destiny. Other things, like whatever their niches or whatever their.
Torre
All the things we've heard about with Puff.
Qwanell Mosley
Oh, I ain't talking about Puff.
Willie Taylor
I'm talking about in general.
Torre
Interesting.
Willie Taylor
Yeah.
Qwanell Mosley
I ain't got no stories about Puff. Got nothing. Got nothing to say about Puff.
Willie Taylor
What did you want to say?
Robert Curry
What did you say?
Willie Taylor
He said, are you good, man? I like you, brother.
Torre
That's what I thought he was talking about.
Willie Taylor
I see you, man.
Torre
So love. So the Rod situation, right? One of the things he talked about was that he felt controlled.
Willie Taylor
Rod Black Rod, who you talking about?
Torre
No, Lil Rod.
Willie Taylor
Okay.
Torre
He felt controlled in that in order to rise up to a high level, I gotta have someone like Puff co sign me. And if I leave his side, then I'm kind of fucked.
Willie Taylor
Well, it's fucking true. Cause he got the stamp to put you on right then, right there and make you exactly what you wanna be in one snap of a finger.
Torre
Yeah.
Willie Taylor
So obviously if somebody can put you on like that, they could take you off the same exact way.
Torre
Exactly.
Willie Taylor
But I brought you in this world to take your ass out.
Torre
Exactly. Exactly. So I gotta deal with all your bullshit.
Willie Taylor
I meant that. How many? Think about it. Or walk away. Yeah, or walk away. I'm about to say how many of us? How long you been in a bad relationship before that you know, you need to walk away from? But You. I've been in positions like that before where I've been in a bad relationship, I know I need to get away from. But it's other things, other variables to it, like, oh, yeah, but when I leave, who gonna do. When she leave, who gonna do this or who gonna do that, or, you know, whatever the case may be.
Qwanell Mosley
He means with other people. Not with Puff.
Willie Taylor
Not with Puff.
Torre
Why you keep bringing up Puff?
Willie Taylor
I know why you.
Torre
You keep bringing it back?
Willie Taylor
No, I just feel like that's just. That's in general, you know, so it don't change when it comes to it. When you. When you're dealing with matters of the heart or the things that you love or even your life, what it consists of, you gonna always come up against those things where you gotta make the hard choices. Sometimes the things you want might not line up with what you have, you know, and you might have to pivot to get to those things. But are you strong enough to believe in what you have on your own to move and do that? You know, because that got a lot to do with yourself and what you think of yourself. Because me, personally, I want to be signed to Puff, and I'm glad that he did what he did, but if he didn't, I would not be just sitting here trying to figure out what's going to go on. I'm be moving on, doing something else, signed to the next person, being the artist that I want to be, and I'm not going to be held down by no kind of shackles.
Torre
Now that you're independent, you see how bad of a scam it is being signed to a record label.
Willie Taylor
Oh, yes.
Robert Curry
Yeah.
Torre
How bad is.
Qwanell Mosley
Depends on what your. What your deal is and your agreement is. I think that that changes depending on, you know, what you signed on to, so. And I think everybody has a different story with them.
Willie Taylor
Yeah. Because labels don't even operate like they used to no more. Right. It's all different.
Qwanell Mosley
Used to be huge front money, big advance, whatever it is. And then you, you know, you.
Torre
And then you get nothing.
Willie Taylor
Right.
Qwanell Mosley
You get nothing after that.
Torre
So what is it now?
Qwanell Mosley
You might not get nothing to start, nothing to finish.
Torre
You get nothing at the start.
Qwanell Mosley
You get very, like, peanuts to start, and then you still don't get nothing to finish.
Torre
Well, that's terrible.
Willie Taylor
Unless you're in charge of your own shit. Getting your own shit, then I think that's what I hate that Covid happened. But it really put a lot of people and a lot of artists in a place to have to Come up with something and be creative on their own to be able to, you know, create avenues for theyself to make money. Cause we couldn't do concerts. We couldn't do the things that was putting money in our pocket at the time. We literally. Covid came in the middle of a tour we was about to do. Like, literally. Yeah.
Qwanell Mosley
What? You see people all the time, they say that the reason why they stop doing music or a lot of times they stop doing music because they fell out of love with it, because they didn't understand the business fully. They don't understand how they can survive or make a living or the way they want to because it's too many unknowns for them when they dealing with the label.
Torre
I remember one artist told me the label owes me between five and $10 million.
Willie Taylor
I'm like, I can guarantee that's probably not true. He probably owed what. They probably don't owe him that much money.
Torre
This is a superstar.
Willie Taylor
Okay, if he already will.
Torre
But my thing was. That's a gigantic delta. That's a big, huge. Like, you don't know five or 10.
Qwanell Mosley
Like, honestly, that's a big number, right?
Willie Taylor
That's a different big margin, right?
Torre
Like, you don't even know if it's five or ten. Like, God damn. You know what I mean? So what's next, man?
Willie Taylor
We have definitely put all of our creativity and all of our everything into this new album. Day ones and definitely for our day ones, our fans. And we taking this. Nobody's in our lane still. And so we taking this opportunity to claim back our lane and then, you know, set it up for the people to come. We want to be the pie, you know, people y'all got it from. Not we. You know what I'm saying? Like, that. There we go. We. The we don't. There we go. I feel like on this new album, we created a new way for groups to actually perform and sing songs. Like, I feel like a lot of reasons why R and B groups kind of fell out is because it don't fit in with rotation of the music today. Like, the way that we structure our music, the way everything. It kind of get to a place where it's hook, verse, hook, bridge, you know, and music has evolved.
Torre
So what's your new way?
Willie Taylor
I feel like the way that we do it now is more. Less doo wop and more of where they can actually feel. We finish each other's sentences on certain things now. Like, Opposed to, like, him doing one verse, I do one part. Like, we do things like that Trick the ear. He'll finish a word he's saying and take over. You know what I'm saying? It's just a way for it to be more creative and for people to be more interested in what we doing than just the cookie cutter way of recording a group. And I feel like that's what's going to add us now to the place where we fit in with the not fit in. We set in what the music should sound like at this point. You know what I'm saying? It's something new, it's something fresh, and it's something needed, and it's lane for it. And we the only people that can bring it right now.
Torre
Since you're new to H and R.

Robert Curry
No group. So, you know, we put out an album. Would it be in no groups out right now? You already got the distinctive difference in Harvey, right. Because, you know, it's usually just one person with some background, whatever. But this is a group that you're familiar with the sound of now and then. We could give it back into you harmonies, giving you acapellas, things that made you go. Even when we were in high school and, you know, getting your boys and singing records, it made you want to become a group. And I think the standard to being a group has been set again so other groups can feel like, yo, me and my boy, we sing. We can sing these songs together. You know, that was missing from R B and for music period. For a while.
Willie Taylor
Yeah.
Torre
Do you have in your mind these are the greatest groups of all time?
Qwanell Mosley
Yeah. Boys to men.
Torre
Boys to men. For sure. For sure. For sure. You said the Temptations for sure. Who else is on your Mount Rushmore?
Qwanell Mosley
New edition.
Willie Taylor
New Edition.
Qwanell Mosley
Boys, man, Jodeci.
Willie Taylor
They're my three right there. Drew Hill. Yeah. Drew Hill. Drew Hill.
Brian Angel
Yeah.
Qwanell Mosley
Yeah.
Brian Angel
That profile was a great group.
Robert Curry
Definitely the. The for me. Boys to man, Jodeci can go up there for sure. What is it? Two more Temptations. And give me one more Fellas.
Brian Angel
Jackson.
Robert Curry
Okay.
Willie Taylor
There we go. Okay.
Torre
Jackson.
Willie Taylor
I'm a go.
Torre
Young. Young adult. Mike. Right? Can you feel it?
Qwanell Mosley
Yeah.
Willie Taylor
Can you feel it?
Torre
Yeah.
Willie Taylor
I gotta put New Edition in there.
Torre
What?
Willie Taylor
New Edition. They gotta be as to me. I will put a new edition before the next New edition.
Qwanell Mosley
I don't care which one.
Torre
Kids.
Willie Taylor
New edition. Oh, no.
Qwanell Mosley
Adults.
Torre
Adult adults. But then the. The reunited or the. Is what I'm saying.
Willie Taylor
Either way, for me, Bobby, when they have them both, all six, and I believe that, you know, they are grouped to aspire. I see them perform. Them niggas still dance like they 20 years old, bro.
Torre
What do you see now? Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't.
Qwanell Mosley
That ain't me, man.
Willie Taylor
Don't. No. Don't, don't, don't.
Torre
This is an artistic question, but what do you understand better about Jodeci having been through the same sort of A and R situation that they went through? See, it's a tough question, but not.
Willie Taylor
A. Yeah, but we already.
Qwanell Mosley
We already knew about. I knew individually, like, about a lot of the things that they went through and dealt with that I wasn't walking through that. You know, to them same situations.
Torre
What do you mean?
Qwanell Mosley
Like the. Cesar, you gonna get me back to another.
Brian Angel
You're an amazing journalist, brother. Right.
Qwanell Mosley
Back to the same thing.
Torre
I just work here. I mean, like, y'all went through the same A and R situation that Jodeci went through, so I would think you would be like, I feel like I understand them better because I went through the same thing that they went through. So I. You know, I mean, I'm outside them, but I can see. Oh, that they. They do that because he told them to do that. You know what I mean?
Willie Taylor
Oh, definitely. A lot. From their swag, I could tell he had a lot to put. A lot to do with the way they dressed and stuff like that. But I'm gonna be honest. Jodeci was already a group, so we didn't really go through the same process. We was put together by Diddy. Jodeci wasn't put together by Diddy.
Torre
Right.
Willie Taylor
Just came in on what they was doing, and hence they swag. With things like creativity through their dress and things like that. But Jodeci had the Jodeci sound before Diddy came along. Diddy created us, so that's the whole difference. He had a whole nother foot in what we did than that. You know what I'm saying? So I guess that's why I would say our situations are not really parallel, because it was a whole nother process of how we got together.
Torre
For sure, for sure, for sure.
Brian Angel
I see them wheels turning.
Willie Taylor
He's like. Wouldn't able to get him on that one.
Torre
Well, you know, it's a bunch of people. You think about who hasn't talked recently, who hasn't talked. I don't want anyone to walk out, be like, damn, I barely got to talk. You know what I mean? So you think about, like, oh, he thought. You know what I mean? Like, just trying to make sure everybody talks.
Brian Angel
Nah, we not like that, bro.
Willie Taylor
Nah, we ain't like that. If the question don't apply to us, we'll be quiet in the mud waiting on them.
Torre
But who. Who's the who? Like, in a group, it's not. Everybody's not equal. Everybody's equal as far as you know. You're all. Yeah, but, like, people play different roles. One of y'all is the big brother. One of y'all is the little brother, right? Like, one of y'all is, like, he's the joker. He's the fucking serious guy. Whatever. Like, when shit gets down, if some shit happens, he's the one who's gonna punch the guy in the face first, right? Like, who is who?
Qwanell Mosley
Well, how about you say something and then we'll tell you.
Robert Curry
Which one is that?
Torre
Who's the big brother?
Willie Taylor
Me.
Brian Angel
I'm the oldest.
Willie Taylor
He the oldest. So I guess.
Torre
Yeah, you act like the big brother as far as.
Willie Taylor
No, no, I would say will more the big brother.
Torre
You're the big brother.
Willie Taylor
I would say Willie.
Torre
And who's the little brother?
Willie Taylor
Q.
Torre
And who's the jokester?
Willie Taylor
That's a couple of us.
Torre
Like, if there's a moment of tension for whatever, you gonna break the tension with a joke.
Willie Taylor
He gonna say, whatever everybody. Whatever everybody thinking. But nobody's saying, I take my.
Torre
Who's the most sensitive?
Brian Angel
Me, Absolutely.
Torre
Who's the first to want to fight? And if a fight was about to happen, who would be the first to punch somebody in the face?
Willie Taylor
Me.
Qwanell Mosley
I think he gets his sensitivity mixed up with passion. I think he's more passionate than sensitive.
Brian Angel
I appreciate that, brother.
Qwanell Mosley
And it comes across very incredible.
Willie Taylor
On stage too.
Qwanell Mosley
If you watching perform, appreciate you.
Torre
Wait, who's the best dancer?
Robert Curry
O O. I think they want a battle. Big Mike.
Willie Taylor
Nah. Who they get at?
Brian Angel
What y'all say Me.
Willie Taylor
I'm the best dancer too.
Brian Angel
You know, I've trained it.
Willie Taylor
Oh, hell no. This nigga is not in that running up.
Torre
You know what I love? I love when y'all said one of the two of them. Nobody said anything when you said you. You like.
Willie Taylor
Oh, no, no, no.
Torre
It's definitely not you, sir.
Willie Taylor
You got to learn the routines before you can even say that you are in the category. We got routines literally step off the side while we doing the choreography.
Torre
So who makes the most mistakes on stage?
Brian Angel
No, but my mistakes be cool as shit though.
Willie Taylor
I would say my mistakes be cool as shit. I'mma say it's between. But not bad. They not really bad. The mistakes that we make, I think is from years of doing the same thing over and over again. He don't never remember his own words. This nigga will walk away from his whole verse.
Torre
Yeah, yeah, we'll get.
Willie Taylor
If you didn't have the luxury of doing this to the crowd, it would be facts.
Torre
Who's the best singer?
Willie Taylor
I don't think it's no best. Yeah, it's really preference because we all.
Robert Curry
Amazing vocals and that's just real. I ain't saying because. But everybody brings something different. I think that's what makes nobody is doubling up on anything.
Brian Angel
I mean, fuck that meat.
Robert Curry
Stronger voices, stronger passionates, sensual high pitch. You know, it's different things that. That you get. It depends all on what you're here. I mean, yeah, if you like Charlie Wilson or something, it'll be something. If you like Ralph Transband.
Willie Taylor
But it'll all be.
Qwanell Mosley
Yeah, Charlie Wilson.
Willie Taylor
Yeah. I would say the closest group.
Qwanell Mosley
The group that's closest to us until compares to boys and men. Because we like all can sing. We, you know, I mean like we are vocally. I can take a lead and there's not too many groups out there that. There's not groups out there that can do that. And I mean like we can make you feel a certain type of way by how we sound and sing. People can't do that. You usually go to church and you feel that, you know that who's the highest?
Willie Taylor
Ryan.
Torre
And who's the lowest?
Brian Angel
No, actually it varies between these three.
Willie Taylor
I ain't never heard him hit no notes.
Qwanell Mosley
No, I sing melody with Willie. I be with Willie. Notes you make up.
Torre
No, you don't.
Willie Taylor
No, you don't.
Qwanell Mosley
I Seen the lo On C? Yeah, you do.
Willie Taylor
That's not bas. Ain't no bass on.
Torre
It's between those guys arguing. Is there bass on that song or not?
Willie Taylor
No, it's not even. No bass. No, on that song. And let's talk about the guitar.
Qwanell Mosley
Not at all.
Willie Taylor
That would be baritone. Hey, hey, hey.
Torre
Who's the best writer, songwriter?
Robert Curry
I'm probably the best song.
Willie Taylor
I don't think so. Not over me. I wasn't gonna say nothing. I was gonna play humble. But since he want to jump up his. Okay, okay.
Torre
Who's the best, like, hook, chorus, writer, Me.
Qwanell Mosley
It kind of depends. It depends on the mood, the feeling. Like, for instance, we all could pull out heat. Like, he got on the album. He wrote honest. I wrote perfectly. Blind Willie. Willie writes mad songs. Brian writes mad songs, Mike writes. So I think it kind of depends on the type of vibe that the beat is giving off and how we feeling and getting creative with it individually to bring it to the team.
Robert Curry
Overall, we are fairly good writers. Me being probably.
Willie Taylor
Right.
Robert Curry
But overall, you can get great songs.
Qwanell Mosley
Any.
Robert Curry
I mean, either one.
Willie Taylor
Like, I mean, yeah. But if you want the best one, come to Robert Curry.
Robert Curry
Really talented group, though.
Torre
I'm just playing even outside of my.
Robert Curry
Vocals, man, really, as creators and writers and everything, man, we really have a background in really doing it. So I really. That's why I really want people to really hit the album, because I really want them to go in and really understand how talented we really are. Versus you ever seeing a TV show and thinking about any cheesecake or any walks or any barrel or anything we've ever done on a TV show, just always come back to the fact that it's them. And this is not gimmick, is not, you know, for tv. It's. You know, it stands the test of time, and it's just great music. Timeless.
Willie Taylor
Absolutely. Yeah.
Torre
Who drinks the most?
Willie Taylor
I don't drink no more. I used to. I used to drink a lot, but I'm kind of. I'm just.
Torre
Are you sober now?
Willie Taylor
What do you mean, right now? Why would you ask me that?
Torre
Like, today, now I'm not at this second. I mean, like, in life.
Willie Taylor
Oh, yeah. I mean. I mean, I haven't had a drink in a couple of days or something like that. I don't want to drink. I had no drink. I would be drinking every day or today if I would. I would be. Something I was able to say before, and that's the truth. Before, I was like, I come in here with a fifth. You know what I'M saying, like, really? Yeah, but I don't do that no more. I drink socially at this point.
Robert Curry
Now you say who's the most drink? He was yesterday.
Willie Taylor
Not yesterday. I ain't drinking. You know what I'm saying?
Torre
I used to be, but I chilled this shit out.
Willie Taylor
Just to be clear, I ain't drinking nothing yesterday either.
Torre
Got that? My is good now Friday coming two.
Willie Taylor
Days ago though if I'm working, I might drink Friday. You know why? Cuz that's the day after our show. Is a reason I can, you know, something, maybe have a nightcap or celebrate or something.
Robert Curry
Celebration time. Come on. You know.
Willie Taylor
The last time I literally, last time I had a drink is after our last show. That's the only time I really drink is like after our show. I celebrate like that.
Robert Curry
Every time we have a show, I'm like, you know, hey, man, celebrate.
Willie Taylor
I ain't drinking a fifth.
Qwanell Mosley
I know.
Brian Angel
Taking a drink.
Torre
Anyway.
Qwanell Mosley
It's a celebration.
Torre
Wow.
Willie Taylor
Who smoked the most weed?
Torre
I'm saying, who smoked the most weed?
Willie Taylor
Weed.
Torre
Wait, you do or you do? Cause I thought he was gonna say B.
Willie Taylor
B, don't smoke. Okay.
Qwanell Mosley
B, E. Edibles.
Willie Taylor
You will know if he do it because he will not fail. Dare you. He will not fail to tell you every 10 seconds. Amen. Amen. Am. Hey, man, I just had an edible, man. I'm hot. I'm hot, man. Like, bruh, you know what?
Brian Angel
In my defense, I just started eating edibles like maybe a year now.
Torre
Okay. After the album came, right now, a year and a half. That's a long time.
Willie Taylor
Yeah.
Torre
Before me still adjusting.
Willie Taylor
He act like we was the devil for smoking.
Qwanell Mosley
I mean.
Brian Angel
I can do the devil drive.
Torre
Wait, what? Wait, what?
Qwanell Mosley
They heard him.
Torre
Wait, what?
Willie Taylor
You ain't driving me nowhere. Your motor skills be off. When you high, bro?
Brian Angel
In Atlanta, I was.
Willie Taylor
Yeah, they gonna pull you over.
Torre
You know you, you know you should.
Willie Taylor
Not be doing that, right?
Brian Angel
I said one time I did it.
Willie Taylor
While I was driving, you know.
Torre
You know, I, I, I did a, I did an interview with, with Big Boy in Atlanta. When Speaker Box Love Below came out, I sat in a studio with him. He played the album for me. We smoked bunch of joints.
Willie Taylor
We should have did that right now.
Torre
Ls and shit.
Willie Taylor
I don't know why you pulled the part. Stopped the party when day 26 came. This motherfucker. I would have been hitting the doo long time on this roll up my.
Torre
We smoke like three of them shits. I was a zombie. It's 3am he played me the Album. He's leaving. I gotta go. You got, like, I don't know, you know, you gotta go. And Uber was not a thing at that time in history, right? Dog, I was on the road, maybe driving 10 miles an hour. Like, please, please, right? I would never do that on purpose. But I'm not gonna play myself for the. Andre. I'm too high.
Qwanell Mosley
I first smoked, I was baked. I was so paranoid. Driving home, I was driving so slow.
Brian Angel
I was like, I've never been paranoid.
Willie Taylor
You ain't never smoked real weed. That's why you ain't never know. But I'm telling you, that's why you ain't get that feeling.
Torre
Yo, if you smoke a bunch and you're never like, I'm worried about the political and economic state of the world, you ain't smoked enough.
Willie Taylor
That's what I'm telling you, bro.
Torre
At some point in the journey, you're gonna be like, the world is going to hell. What is happening?
Robert Curry
Why you have edibles happening now?
Willie Taylor
Edibles is a body high, bro. I know the difference.
Torre
Well, no, but it depends on what you get.
Willie Taylor
And you know what? I ain't gonna lie to you. Cause even if you smoke the best of weed, some people can't do that edible shit. I'm one of the people that stay away from the edible junk because I wanted to smoke it, go away when it's done. Edible junk, you can go to sleep and wake up and still feel like, yes.
Torre
You don't know when it's gonna happen. Right, right.
Willie Taylor
I'm always like, weed, and I ran with it.
Torre
God, how do we get.
Willie Taylor
He said you. He said something about weed, and I ran with it, brother.
Torre
Wait, no, no. I asked y'all about drinking. He said you ain't asked. He asked about.
Willie Taylor
Oh, you should ask us about weed.
Torre
We want to talk about weed.
Willie Taylor
Look, look, look. Yeah, I don't mind no pothead stuff, but y'all trying to making some AA over here. I'm straight. We talking about. We talking about some marijuana. Don't nobody go to AA for that.
Torre
Oh, my God. Talked about the album.
Brian Angel
Album available right now?
Willie Taylor
Yes, sir.
Brian Angel
All streaming platforms shout out to Sean and Ralph with the exclusives and Amir Kaya, they helped us put together day one.
Torre
You gonna do another album? You gonna do another album?
Willie Taylor
Yes, we gonna keep it coming.
Torre
Are you working on it now or. Not yet.
Robert Curry
Right now we're gonna hit the road in Summer Academy. I'll do more videos for this. This album here. Push those out. Hit the road, you know, and touch the fans for a minute. Then from there, we'll see what that. That sounds like.
Torre
So you're promoting most of 2025?
Willie Taylor
Yes.
Torre
And then maybe the end of next this year, you try to start think about, should we do another one for 2026?
Willie Taylor
That depend on the blessings that come in from this one. Because I feel like once we start pushing this week, you know, you can milk an album for a long time if it's good enough.
Torre
Yeah. If you got enough singles. Yeah.
Willie Taylor
Just trying to see. That's why he mean. That's what he mean by we just trying to see what that sound like. Cause you never know, we might get six, seven singles into this if it go that way.
Torre
Yeah, yeah.
Willie Taylor
You know, highly encourage you. Yeah.
Brian Angel
You'Re going to love.
Willie Taylor
Oh, man.
Torre
Of course I like R B. I am hip hop first.
Robert Curry
Right?
Torre
But I mean, of course I love R B.
Robert Curry
Have you heard I sing?
Torre
Yeah, I mean, I mean, look, I.
Robert Curry
Want to just say. No, I ain't really heard it.
Willie Taylor
You know what?
Torre
Because you look very.
Willie Taylor
You look very confident through this whole interview. Until you said that Will, he said, yeah, but you know, man, we've been there before. It's okay, brother.
Torre
Just like you didn't remember our names at the beginning.
Willie Taylor
I learned you already, bro. I know your face.
Torre
Camera. I ain't with y'all. We know the tricks, bro. Do you like teenage girls?
Willie Taylor
Huh?
Qwanell Mosley
What the.
Robert Curry
No, but.
Qwanell Mosley
Oh, snap.
Torre
What you mean y'all didn't know? I ask everybody that. He just. He was just the one who couldn't answer the question. Oh, wow.
Qwanell Mosley
Look, he said.
Brian Angel
He said, ask me the question.
Torre
Do you like teenage girls?
Willie Taylor
Why is it that much time in between the answer?
Brian Angel
Now, when you say teenage or when.
Willie Taylor
You say like, when you say like.
Brian Angel
I mean, how old are you talking about?
Willie Taylor
I just don't understand the space.
Torre
The space girls are teenagers. Oh, my God.
Robert Curry
You talking about.
Torre
You guys are nuts.
Willie Taylor
Thank you so much, bro. You good, man. And I've seen you before now, though, so you know what I'm saying?
Torre
Thank you.
Willie Taylor
Definitely appreciate.

Podcast Summary: Toure Show Episode "Day26–We Are Free"
Podcast Information:
In the episode titled "Day26–We Are Free," host Torre engages with the members of the R&B group Day26 to explore their tumultuous journey from being under Diddy's management to becoming an independent entity in the music industry. The conversation delves into their personal and professional struggles, the dynamics within the group, and their aspirations moving forward.
